My cousin invited me over for Halloween. I’d planned to hang out with my aunt because my uncle has a work trip that popped up kind of last minute. But man the idea of going back home and staying at the goth house with the two full stocked bars and the dog that loves me for a Halloween party is tempting. So tempting.

fuck it, have some more aubrey omori headcanons because i care about her in the most mentally ill way
she has chinese heritage on her father's side, french on her mother's
bisexual af!!!! had a small crush on mari growing up
always has cold hands. kinda anemic probably
has a very noticeable eye twitch when she gets stressed or angry—it kinda looks that way in some of her headshots ingame
her father was physically abusive, but she would always lie when asked why she had bruises. i think it makes sense considering how touch-averse she is post-timeskip :((
hero and mari were vaguely aware of her rough homelife, but only basil knew the full reality of it, because he'd been her friend the longest. basil being basil, he took that secret to the grave and never told anyone else (also i feel like aubrey would tell basil to keep it a secret because she doesn't want anyone's pity). this is another reason aubrey was so hurt by the blacked-out photo album; basil was the one person who really knew how badly aubrey needed their chosen family, and he was still trying to avoid her rather than support her
okay, a non-angsty one now! aubrey has a surprisingly sophisticated palate! i mean, she canonically loves grilled eggplant which is one of the few things i don't particularly like. she'll eat just about anything really. and she cried actual tears of joy when she got to taste hero's home cooking for the first time after the endgame. ("you don't understand. i've been living off monster energy and gas station hot dogs for the past year. without this salad i am nothing")
she wanted to be a witch when she was little. it was always her go-to halloween costume!! she threatened to put a hex on kel that would make him cough up frogs, and kel had at least one nightmare about it
after mari's death, she started going to the faraway town public library a lot and losing herself in books. it was safer than being home, and people could just exist there without having to spend money or explain themselves or anything, and it reminded her of all the time she spent reading with mari. she stopped going after a year or two because she got into a fight with someone :(
she did a bunch of odd jobs around faraway town to get enough money for food and clothes
after the true ending, one of the first things she does upon leaving the hospital is destroy her nail bat. not really on purpose. she just flies into a rage and pounds it against the wall of an alley until it breaks into splinters.
after that, she goes into a brief but intense depression and doesn't leave her room for 2 days until kel drags her out. around that time, she has a sort of "shit, i need to get my life together" epiphany, and starts applying for actual jobs. she ends up working at fix-it until she graduates high school
she stows away on a freight train to visit sunny in the city and tell him she forgives him. she's the first one to seek him out. a few weeks later she gets kel and hero to drive up with her for a full reunion (minus basil, he'll come later)
hero also teaches her and kel how to drive that summer (way more affordable than an actual driver's ed course). he also gives her some fun tips about cooking!! and general adulting. he is literally a big brother to her and it makes me sob happy tears pls i love them so much
sadly, hero and kel's parents aren't that fond of aubrey. they were vaguely disdainful of her even before mari died ("she's one of those people from the poor neighborhood, isn't she?") and they openly condemn her after her spiral into delinquency. even after she becomes friends with hero and kel again, she isn't allowed into their house... but that doesn't stop her from hanging out with them :)
her mother dies from alcohol poisoning a few months after the true ending. aubrey barely even grieves; as far as she's concerned, she lost both parents years ago. she moves in with polly and basil, who recently got back from the mental hospital and is now homeschooled. things are rocky for a while, but aubrey can stand to be around basil even if she can't fully forgive him. as time goes on, they get more comfortable talking to each other, and aubrey is yet again the first one to really make things right with him and accept his friendship again. the others follow soon :)
she and basil share a lot of clothes!!!! basil likes to wear things on the big and baggy side so they still fit aubrey perfectly
aubrey also teaches basil how to swim :') as well as some basic self defense. and she buys him plants and flowers and treats him to coffee now that she has a steady source of income. i am completely normal about aubrey and basil's friendship please trust me
now that aubrey has a parental figure who actually cares about her, she can finally afford to start going to therapy. she's diagnosed with borderline personality disorder, which does still flare up from time to time, but her symptoms are more manageable than they were before the true ending. she gets more comfortable expressing all her emotions, not just the angry ones, and also gets a lot more comfortable with intimacy and affection, like her younger self
she also starts working out (buff auby my beloved) and playing guitar. she can't sing, but she does it anyway when no one is around
she listens to sonic youth, bikini kill, liz phair, joan jett, and various other icons of 80s and 90s girlboss rock music. she also had an MCR phase when she was 14-15, and i know from experience that once you start having an MCR phase it never truly ends (sunny likes them too!!)
she calls hero on the phone at least once a week. he helps her with her homework sometimes, and she hypes him up and encourages him to socialize and make friends!!
she's really good at most party games (air hockey, cornhole, beach volleyball, etc) and also has a strange knack for winning those claw machine games (she's gotten sunny and basil and kim soooo many stuffed animals). however, she's hilariously bad at video games. she has never won at mariokart in her life
she refuses to touch alcohol, but smokes marijuana every now and then. when she's feeling festive. or super stressed out
she cuts her hair to shoulder-length about a year after the true ending. after she graduates highschool, she stops dying it and lets it return to its natural black, except for one pink streak.
after high school, she moves to the same city where sunny lives and gets an apprenticeship at an auto repair shop. mechanic aubrey is my most beloved headcanon and i will take it with me to the grave. she also gets a motorbike because i say so
she starts spending more time with sunny (he's also doing a lot better; tbh i should make another headcanons post just for him!) and they eventually start dating and move in together :))
years after the endgame, hero tells aubrey that she's become just like mari, or at least a slightly more punk version of mari: a caring, lovable, accomplished, big-sisterly figure whom everybody looks up to. it makes her cry for the first time in years. this feels like the natural conclusion to aubrey's character arc—after years of struggling to control her grief and keep the memory of her best friend alive, she's succeeded in commemorating mari in the best way possible: by fully embodying her spirit.

okay, this is an important heads up people who sent in orders for shirts!!! i know that was so so long ago (... april?).
i. have been writhing in pain.
so as many of you know i ended up going to college this year! i didn't think this was going to be able to happen, and i am happy that it did. i wanted it really badly. BUT
it threw a wrench in my t-shirt making plan, and i didn't realize it would. (because of money reasons) i took a train home, and they only allowed me to bring two bags worth of personal items on the train. this means i had just enough space for my clothing, my computer, and a handful of other essentials.
this also means i don't have about half of my paints with me. but when i realized this, i was prepared to just do as much as i could anyway and message the specific people affected.
then i noticed something about my current situation, which is: i still don't have a job/any source of income. this is another thing that college affected, bc obviously college is very expensive and requires expensive additions like books, etc. also my chronic pain has literally just not stopped getting worse and i'm having to replace my beloved flip phone with a smart phone (i noticed that actually it's very difficult to use flip phone buttons when my fingers are in pain and stiff and it tends to make them worse). unfortunately this project also requires money because this is a cruel cruel world and capitalism hates love. well, i guess capitalism hates me trying to produce something without the expectation of personal gain of capital. that's sort of the deal.
because of all this, i'm going to have to adjust my expectations about when i can get these shirts done, and i hope that i can convince you all to join me in doing so.
my new expectation is that i can get these done over the summer of 2023. think june/july.
because i want to make sure everyone who needs to see this but i don't want to give out the urls of the people who ordered, if you ordered a shirt from me in april 2022 please dm me with a message that you've seen this post! if you don't i'll dm you and ask, and then send a link to this if you haven't.
it's so funny to me, and by funny i mean it makes me really fucking angry, that all of the problems i'm having getting these shirts done come down to me being unemployed and currently living below the poverty line. it's all about money. i suspect that i also have undiagnosed adhd, but i haven't been able to see a competent and kind psych bc it's hard to access those where i live, and it requires more money because of that. if i could see one, and then be able to afford whatever meds they'd put me on, this project would be so much easier because i'd have the drugs thta make my brain able to organize and move through things step by step instead of floundering out here and never being able to remember shit and so on and so forth. and i took the train because it was cheaper than my other options, and i need to save money as much as i can because college is expensive. and i have to be concerned about college being expensive because i'm fucking poor and it's taken me a lot to get here.
anyway. all of this is to say acab eat the rich i hate capitalism support a living universal wage.
well, if you read through all this, thank you! if the world gets really cool about me being how i am really quick y'all might get these shirts sooner but don't bet on it.

I challenge you to write something cute
Blake and Ruby go to an animal shelter to adopt cat! Cinder,(named by his dead owner Rhodes when she was a kitten)
Blake assures Weiss that she knows how to take care of the cat, how to tame her and everything, while Yang and her sister are already approaching Cinder and playing with her making silly jokes
Weiss sighed and pinched the bridge of her nose. “No, we cant. You know we’ll get in trouble.”
“Yes, but we can hide it-”
“Blake, I love you, but our dorm is not big enough for a cat.”
Blake rolled her eyes. “You had no problem with Zwei being here.”
“That’s because he was here for a week and we still ended up in trouble because of that.” Weiss sat down and watched Ruby and Yang as the two of them crowded around the cat that Blake and Ruby had adopted. “I dont have an issue with a cat being around here, I just dont want to get detention. Again.”
“Give me two weeks and I can make sure she’s not a problem.”
“Besides, Cinder’s an older cat and she’s already house trained,” Ruby chimed in as she pet Cinder. “The only thing we’d really have to hide is the litter box and we can stick that under our bathroom sink.”
“And if you havent noticed, our bathroom isnt exactly big enough for everything we have currently,” Weiss reminded her. “Between the shower products Yang and I need for our hair, the razor collection you have and Blake’s bath bombs, do you really think we have room for a litter box?”
Yang pulled away from Cinder and thought for a moment. “We could train her to use the toilet like a person.”
Weiss let out an exhausted sigh and leaned against the wall her bed was pushed up against. “And how do you plan to afford food for her? Last I checked, I was cut off from access to SDC funds after our last project, and none of us have jobs. And before you say it, no, we cant just grab whatever meat we can in the cafeteria.”
“We’ll figure something out.”
Blake nodded and grabbed her coat. “Actually, I might have a solution for that already. I know a guy down at the docks who can get us anything we need and I’m sure no one would mind if a bag of cat food or two went missing from a shipment. That would give us a bit of time to come up with the money for anything else we’ll need for her.”
Weiss got up and grabbed her book bag. “You guys go ahead, I need to study.” She let out a small sigh once her team left the dorm and she opened one of her text books. “At last, just a bit of peace and quiet.”
The cat, Cinder, slowly walked over to Weiss and pawed at her leg and let out a loud meow. Her claws dug into the pant leg and caught on the material.
Weiss slowly picked Cinder up and held her close, her free hand went to the small tag on the collar and flipped it around. “Rhodes, huh? Must’ve been your old owner. Though, I’m not sure why he gave you up, you are a cute little kitty, arent you?”
The cat seemed to almost smile as it looked up at Weiss, its eyes flickered a bit as it began to change. In a matter of seconds, the cat had changed into a person who smiled at Weiss with a wicked grin. “Thank you.”
Weiss fell back out of her chair and winced as she hit her head. “You… what did you do to the cat?”
“I’m still here, just… finally myself.” Cinder sat down on the desk and slowly messed with the ears on top of her head. “Though, I think I stayed that way a lot longer than I should’ve.”
“But you… what are you?”
“A guardian of sorts for those who need it. And from the looks of it, you need me.”
Weiss slowly stood up and walked to the bathroom. She splashed a bit of water on her face and with a deep breath, she looked at herself in the mirror. “I must be tired. Cats dont turn into people.”
“And yet, this one did.” Cinder paused for a moment and looked around the room she was in. “This place is a bit small now, dont you think?”
“It is meant for four people, not exactly a fifth.” Weiss slowly opened up the medicine cabinet and slowly started to read over her anxiety medication and her sleep aids. “This… this has to be a hallucination. O-or I’m just… sleep deprived. Stayed up much longer than I thought I did.”
Cinder rolled her eyes and walked up behind Weiss. “I’m a bit hurt you think this isnt real.”
“Animals dont just turn into people! You were a cat and now you’re-” Weiss turned around to face Cinder and paused once she had a good look at the girl. “You… you’re… naked…”
“Well, yeah, I did just become human. Have anything that will fit?”
“You uh… you can check in Blake’s clothes for now, I think she’s about the same size as you,” Weiss said as she pointed to the dresser. Her eyes stayed focused on Cinder as she watched her, her mind still attempted to process what she was seeing. “And… you said you’re a guardian… what exactly are you a guardian of?”
Cinder pulled out a few clothes and held them against her to check the sizes. “Humanity. Its a long story though so I wont bore you with all the details.”
Weiss slowly nodded and went back to her desk to try to study. “When the others get back, you’ll need to explain everything.”

I will type this while im still feeling pretentious
in a good way, don't get me wrong. Lately, I've been feeling an overwhelming need to learn new languages, read books again, shift the music I listen to, and simplify the clothes I wear. Albeit, this might be temporary for now, I am clinging on to this momentary idealization of a want for this lifestyle. I know at my age, it will be difficult to learn a new language, and hopeless considering it might be a barren skill to have if I'm never even going to leave the country sooner or at all. But alas, my brain has decided to do something, and I must follow. This is more and more showing up as a stage of mania and ADHD, which I will ignore, and proceed with. In the past I've always wanted to learn new things, and have always failed because I use life as an excuse to forget or even tire of doing such things. I've also always wanted to have a simpler wardrobe with better pieces but have failed as well because I always put front that I am a victim of capitalism and am not privileged enough to afford slow fashion. Hence my repetition of clothes despite having a ton of them. I no longer enjoy making coffee, I make it, but finish it in less than 10 minutes without actually savoring it. Even the process itself. Which I know sounds ludicrous but I just miss romanticizing the small bits of life as I have been eternally depressed to do so.
I started the last three months with a labor some skincare routine, I now can't seem to be bothered. And I have been in an eternal melancholy for weeks that honestly feel like months. And maybe it has been months, I don't really remember. I haven't really had a fair grasp on time since five years ago. I also have this idea of reading these blog entries in videos I want to create, but it might be too much and overwhelming, and as I'm typing this, maybe its better to keep two separate mediums for now. Especially since I haven't even started video taping anything. It's also funny how I've never talked about filming anything in the first paragraph and now I'm blabbering on about it.
As for my quietness, I am in a pit to be honest. I am currently going in no sure direction with my career and now that I have finally stepped up, am coming to a long stop, I think most probably I am. Sometimes I get sputters of ideas that maybe I should do more work on my portfolio, but I can never find the time to do it, because I always think I'm better off doing something better at that moment. And then it all gets faded out, until a desperate happening comes into my life and I think about it again, and the cycle continues. I currently am working three jobs, one full time, two part time ones that feel like the other one is in disguise. It's a lot more needy than I am, and the fact that I'm depressed doesn't help. I am also currently processing training sessions for a voice acting gig that will last for 6 months and can probably pay for 3 years of rent, for a French web company about to launch audio smut. My desperation for money has definitely made me tolerate some red flags my employer has been showing, especially the time I asked for a contract and he sent me a two-sentence PDF with two underlines for signatures, five minutes later.
Someone has also been 'managing' me, in music, and have been singing as a back up for an indie rapper that seemingly only has intense rhythmic pop in his discography. Most of our shows either has my mic set to the lowest volume; either that, or my voice is incredibly low and quiet, and in decibels the naked ear can't hear, If that's even a phrase. But even then, I still value the 500-1000 peso bills I receive after (under) performing. I seem to think I get better with each performance, but whenever I get off, I always hear the feedback that I seem to have not existed there at all. And to be honest, I don't know what to feel. But I don't feel sad at all. There's certainly a humor to it. Feels like being a ghost employee in a band, paid to be silent.
I've also some to admit that I'm terribly disappointed with how my life is going, but often forget that I am, because of the little tiny happy moments that happen in between, that when I do remember, I feel a little worse that I don't know how to tell people how miserable I am because I feel that the time has passed.
I am currently determined on being alone, as I am weighing if I truly enjoy it because I get to so many things I plan on doing, or maybe I'm just genuinely busy; or that I am just glutted with the presence of other people, and have tremendously low energy to associate myself with. Which by the way, worries me that I may seem like a bitch.

Ok we’ll base training complete and we are in the middle of week three of official marathon training. Run days M, T, H, S.
No interviews and I feel like the number of good job postings has reduced dramatically. And I’ve got 4 projects going at the same time as work, so it’s like their evil plan to keep me so busy and frazzled I don’t have time to look for a job?
On a positive note, I got a decent sized bonus, the first really nice one since like I dunno, 2020? I’ll finally make more money than last year for the first time in like three years. Depressing. But hopefully on a good trend upwards starting now.
No time or interest to be swiping right on anyone. I peek in on it for a giggle now and then. Lots of swipe lefts lol.
I got a piece of junk mail that really made me wonder. It was someone saying they would buy my house as is. That made me think, if I got enough for the house to pay off the mortgage and the loan I took out to renovate the basement, I could go live “somewhere else”.
But where would that somewhere else be?
I feel like most people make moving decisions based on job or family. My job will let me work anywhere so that’s not a factor. My family is so small. My mom would stay with me. My dad has his own family and I see him like 3 times a year so he’s not really a factor. My sister lives in AZ and I don’t think I want to move to the desert. It’s freaking too hot most of the time and I’d miss grass and trees. Plus with global warming, south really isn’t the direction to go I feel lol. They might run out of water or catch fire or whatever.
So then what does that mean? If I don’t want to go anywhere, where would I go?
Where could I afford as much space and be near the same comforts as I have now? (Lots of stores, restaurants, variety). I couldn’t afford a house back up north in the suburbs I grew up in now lol. I don’t really want to move to the city. You can get a lot of house in farther places, but then when would anyone visit me? And the more remote means the less diverse and I don’t need to be seen as “other”.
And my home feels like home, but I’m not sure if it’s just cause I’m too lazy or afraid of change or it really is where I belong. It’s not nice or updated. Fixing it up would be a lot more money I don’t have. The ex chose this house. He’ll always have known it and possibly know where to find me if I stayed. But I shouldn’t give a shit about that either way. And I kind of don’t.
Do I stay because I don’t know where to go? How would I choose where to go? In a time when I could live anywhere I could afford- how would I even know what places are out there I should consider? There could be a perfect small house in Idaho for all I know. But how do I choose a place to even look?
Near good health care. Near an airport. Where I feel safe running outside in the neighborhood. Where I have a lawn and yard for the dogs. Where it doesn’t flood. Where there is good diversity of people and food options. Close to good shopping. I’d love to live near water.
None of that actually helps me lol. Still lost as ever.
Can’t believe so much time has passed between posts. I really enjoy Hogwarts Legacy, no matter how much that puts me on a “canceled” list. Ted Lasso was amazing. Mandalorian season 3 ending was just so good. I got the new Kim Harrison book, started it on audible and have the hardcover on standby.
I never realized how much my calves work when I run. They are just so tired. I am rolling them constantly. Injured Roger ankle is gaining strength but still not completely right.

Those working in the film business
I have written a series of 7 free articles based on my book.Learning about film budgets while on-the-job comes at the expense of hard-knocks, expensive film budgeting software and late night self-training with a technical textbook (if you can find one). In the 20 years that I've been working in the film business, I have NEVER shown a film budget to anyone but a select few insiders - Producers, Production Managers, Studios, Bonding Companies, etc.We also learned that there are no references or books available to film schools or film students on this very needed subject.MAKING IT! In Film Production2. in the same language as would be expected from professional filmmakers. Those working in the film business recognize how important it is to be familiar with film budgeting, if not technically proficient. Presentation of the Weekly Cost Report - It's As Important As the DailiesWhen you read my articles, print them out.)Here are the article titles:1.In all cases, film students expect to find information about film budgeting from the internet, or as recommended reading from their professors. Make your own examples.
However after a recent survey of film students at a reputable film college we learned that film students DO intuitively understand that knowing the language of film budgeting is crucial to their careers in film. However, they DO need to get enough exposure to film budgets to understand the fundamentals, and to be able to communicate to film producers, film studios, bonding companies, banks, financiers, etc. (I have a true story in my book about a meeting that I had with Ron Howard in 1993 where he wanted to learn specifics about the budget for his film - in spite of having been in the film business OEM/ODM polyolefin shrink film 10mic Suppliers for over 30 years as an actor and budding director). Your Participation In Below-the-Line Budgeting6.3. Send me your questions if you get stuck. They're written for the complete novice, so be patient if you've already been exposed to film budgeting.
The only solution that I see for film students, and for working film crew, to get familiar with film budgeting is to provide them with the information myself.Film students don't need to become keen budget technicians. But, what kind of information, and at what level of detail? The answer to that rhetorical question is - in as simple a format as possible, yet still be effective. Translating Creative Ideas Into the Film Budgeting Process4. The confidentiality of film budgets makes it extremely difficult, even for working filmmakers, to get familiar with film budgeting. Your Participation In Above-the-Line Budgeting5. Also, the basic concept of translating creative ideas into a budgeting process is new to most people, especially those educated in film schools, so that concept should be presented first. You'll need to buy my book at this link Walk The Talk to get that inside advantage. (I have kept the price affordable, specifically with students in mind. So, exposure to actual film budgets really is an insider's privilege - which I am about to open the door to for my readers.
By effective, I mean that any training in the area of film budgeting will actually help you impress producers for those few film jobs, get your script into production, find financing, be rehired for more film contracts, be more cost effective cinematographers, etc. The figures are real enough, but are not drawn from my actual past/present/future film productions.talkfilm. Reread them. Knowing how to use these forms will put you WAY out in front of the pack of job-hungry film students looking for those few film jobs. Throughout that time I have never met a new film school graduate who has a clue about handling the most important aspect of ALL filmmaking - the MONEY! I had always assumed (wrongly, it turns out) that film students just weren't interested in knowing about film budgets. You can sign-up, FREE, for 7 weeks of articles at www.Over 80% of film students are not only interested in learning more about budgeting for film productions, they are emphatic about it!2. Tumblr media
- miya atsumu
you n atsumu have been together since high school which is why you’ve always been inseparable
you went to the same college & moved in together right after, but once he got his job with the jackals, he insisted that you didn’t work and focused on getting your master’s degree
you reluctantly agreed, if only to be able finish & earn your phd soon after
because atsumu is always busy, it’s kinda become commonplace for you to do the chores around the house- like doing the laundry or washing the dishes or cooking dinner for him
but it’s gotten to the point where he expects it
atsumu sighs, unlocking the door to your shared apartment. today’s practice was rough, it was a day of hard conditioning and bad sets and he wanted nothing more than a good meal and to cuddle. the first thing he noticed when he walked in was the mess. instant ramen bowls were scattered everywhere, empty coke cans and dirty napkins were all over the floor, and there you were, in the eye of the hurricane. the second thing he noticed was that there was no homecooked meal.
surprised, he walks into the dining room to see you, furiously typing away at your laptop with four different books surrounding you. you hear his footsteps and look up.
“hey baby! how was practice?” you ask with a smile
atsumu grunts in reply and gestures toward the kitchen, “so.. what’s for dinner babe?”
your eyes widen, “oh shoot! i’m sorry, i was so busy studying for this final that i forgot to cook. do you mind-“ you stop when you see him roll his eyes and head out.
“um, where are you going? you just got home?” you ask, following him.
“out. i have to get food somehow” he replies, “especially because my useless s/o can’t cook a goddamn meal for me” he mutters under his breath
you stop in shock because did he really just say that?
“i’m sorry, i don’t think i heard you right.” you start but he interrupts you
“i said, i have to go get food because someone is too busy to cook a goddamn meal. what do you even do anyways- well, besides spend my money? the least you can do is cook for me, god.” he finally turns to look at you but he feels his heart stop at the look on your face.
not wanting to escalate the situation any further, you try to calm him down, “tsum, hey, i’m sorry i forgot to cook okay? this is my last final before the year ends and i just can’t afford to fail it, so i’ve been studying all day. if you come back to the kitchen, i’ll make you something, okay?”
“i don’t want to eat your half assed attempt at a meal, y/n. the whole point is that you couldn’t get off your ass for an hour to cook when i make the money, i paid for the apartment, hell, i’m even paying for your school! is it really too much to ask for you to stop being such a burden and cook and clean everyday?” he fumed.
you gape at him, shocked that he would even say that. to hell with not escalating things
“at least i want to do something more with my life than hit balls around and retire at 35” you hiss, “and i do everything in this house! i do the laundry, i clean the bathroom, i cook - i do all the things you refuse to. and do i complain? no. i offered to get a job but you refused.”
you turn around to grab your laptop and your textbooks, “just- just do whatever the hell you want to, atsumu.” and with that you walk out the door.
atsumu’s heart drops when he realizes that you actually left. sure, you’ve had arguments here and there, but you’ve never left. he pulls out his phone to call you when he sees you’ve left yours on the counter. knowing there’s nothing to do but wait at this point, he begins to clean up and calls osamu over.

it’s already 3 am when you walk back into your apartment, and you blink multiple times when you open the door. it’s ... clean? you’re sure it was a mess when you left, so how would it be clean? you sigh, too tired to think about it more and walk into the kitchen. your eyes widen at the sight. not only is your favorite food on the stove, but there your boyfriend is, asleep on the dining table. you smile slightly, well that explains things.
“ ‘’mu, hey, wake up babe.” you kiss him lightly and shake him.
he grunts and sits up, “baby! i’m so so sorry for what i said. you are in no way, shape, or form a burden, i have no clue why i said that. today’s practice was just really tiring, but i know i shouldn’t have taken it out on you. just please-” he sighs, “just please don’t leave me again.”
your heart breaks your teary eyed boyfriend. “shh, of course baby. i’ll never leave you again okay?” you say, tugging on his arm, “cmon babe, let’s go to bed, okay?”
“mm okay my love.” he replies and practically pulls you into bed. “i love you, okay?”
“i love you too baby.” you reply
“to the moon and back?” he asks
“yeah, and to infinity and beyond.” you reply, your lack of sleep hitting you hard
“oh, i didn’t know i was dating buzz lightyear”
you let out a loud laugh and just like that you both fall into the same routine, love radiating off both of you in waves.

- sakusa kiyoomi
dating sakusa was,, challenging
it definitely took him a while to get comfortable with you
so you guys have been dating for a couple years now, and at this point he’s def clingy
however there still moments when he reverts to his old self
this just happened to be one of those times
“OUT! AND JUST LIKE THAT, EJP RAIJIN TAKES THE WIN AGAINST THE BLACK JACKALS!”
the stadium is silent before the ejp cheering section erupts in cheers. you stay silent, watching your team below. you watch as sakusa stills, still in disbelief. you make your way down, practically sprinting to your boyfriend.
he sees you on the sideline and makes his way over to you. you put on your biggest smile and attempt to make him feel better.
“you did great, kiyo! you’ll get them next time, yeah?” you beam, knowing how hard he’s been training to beat his cousin
he eyes you warily, not knowing what to say.
usually, sakusa gets pretty clingy after games, so you you move to give him a hug.
“don’t touch me” he barked, jerking away from you. “if you hadn’t been distracting me, we would’ve won.”
you stare at him, refusing to let the tears flow. you both turn when you hear a certain setter yelling at the opposing middle and you sigh.
“um, okay then. i’ll see you at home, yeah?” you ask
sakusa merely nods and makes his way over to his teammates. you look around to see if anyone saw what just happened and you lock eyes with your boyfriend’s cousin, who walks over.
“congrats on the win komori! you guys did so well!” you cheered
“thanks, y/n! and i’m sorry about kiyoomi. i’m sure you know he gets that way sometimes.” he explains
you smile and shake your head, saying that you’re used to it and you both bid your farewells. as you walk out of the stadium, you think back to how your boyfriend, the one person you loved with everything you had in you, utterly embarrassed you in front of his whole team. before you know it, silent tears start streaming down your face.
you enter your home and immediately rush to the bathroom. you draw yourself a bath and make some dinner while waiting. you assume that kiyoomi wouldn’t be home to have dinner with you anyways- and now that you think about it, you can’t remember the last time you had dinner together. after you finish your bath and eat your dinner, you decide to wait up for boyfriend and watch a couple episodes of your favorite show to pass the time.
-
kiyoomi walks into his apartment at around 1 am, completely and utterly exhausted. he kicks his shoes off and drops his bag on the floor. The rustling rouses you from sleep and you sit up.
“hey kiyo” you say with a yawn, “where’ve you been all night?”
sakusa ignores you in favor of getting ready for bed and you frown when he brushes past you.
“kiyo, babe, what’s wrong? you’ve been ignoring me all night and i-” you start but he interrupts you before you can finish.
“god, just shut up, y/n. can’t you tell i don’t want to talk to you right now? i’ve already had the worst day, i don’t need you making it any worse.” he snaps
"kiyoomi, look, i understand you’re upset but you shouldn’t take it out on me.” you reason, reaching out towards him, “listen, i’m here if you wanna-”
“i said, do not touch me.” he seethes. “you are so fucking clingy y/n, lord, let me breathe a little.”
with those words, you explode. “you know what, sakusa,” he flinches when he hears his last name come out of your mouth, “i think i have the right to want to spend some time with my boyfriend! i haven’t seen you in god knows how long- you leave before i wake up and i fall asleep in an empty bed. i’ve been working my ass off to get some time off to watch your stupid volleyball game and what do you do? you embarrass me in front of your whole team!”
you sigh, wiping away the tears that continue that continue to fall. “listen, i don’t want to fight right now. i’m going to go stay at a friend’s house for the night, alright? i’ll see you tomorrow” you say, grabbing your purse. “if you’re even home tomorrow,” you add under your breath.
sakusa is in shock. the moment he saw your tears start to spill, he felt an undeniable and unrelenting ache in his chest that only seemed to grow with every work that came out of your mouth. and when the door shut? sakusa fell on his knees, his heart dropping. he truly couldn’t believe he said that to you. now all he had to do was wait till you got home.
-
2:38 pm - you check the time on your phone before pulling out your keys. you hope you made the right move, choosing to come back home while kiyoomi was still at practice. you open the door and the sight causes your eyes to widen.
there, on the couch with your favorite flowers in hand, is your boyfriend. he hears the door open and stands up abruptly.
“y/n, my love, i am so sorry. i truly cannot express how horrible i feel, and i cannot begin to understand how you feel.” he takes a deep breath, seemingly holding back tears. “i- i do love you. i love you more than i’ve ever loved anyone in my entire life. i know i’m not the best at expressing it, but you mean the world to me- no, you are my world. without you, i don’t know what i would do. so please-” his voice cracks, “just, please give me another chance?”
you run towards your boyfriend, practically tackling him. “kiyo, baby, of course. i love you too, you know? you just can’t do that anymore, yeah? you shouldn’t feel like you have the right to embarrass me just because you had a bad day. and please, don’t call me clingy? i know i do stick to you like glue sometimes, but that’s just because i never see you anymore.” you reply.
“that will all change, darling.” he answers sincerely, “i’ll make more time for you, i swear. in fact, i’ll take the week off, how does that sound?” at the sight of your smile, he relaxes.
“that sounds wonderful, yoomi.” you answer
sakusa feels the weight that’s been dragging him down lift and he realizes the effect you have on him- you’re his breath of fresh air. he also realizes how utterly idiotic it was to push away the one person who could make him feel better.
it’s fine, he reasons, he’ll just never make that mistake again. he swears it.

Care and Trust: Chapter Two.
Part One, Part Two, Part Three, Part Four, Part Five -Chapter One
Summary: “--and he says to me ‘my birthday’s every year, dude,’” the shorter one --he’s got gentle green eyes and dark, wavy hair--laughs. “Like, if the bushel of lilyweed I caught him with wasn’t evidence enough--” He pauses when he sees you and Lin waiting, takes one look at your bag and table, then tries to book it. “Nope!”
The taller one grabs him by the shoulders. “Bolin, come on! It’ll be okay!”“Nope! I’m totally fi --agh!”
You wince sympathetically when the younger one cringes and jerks in pain, then step forward so you can get one arm behind him, then introduce yourself as you usher him into Lin’s office. “It’s nice to meet you, Bolin. Why not sit down for a minute, okay? Take a load off? Maybe” --you glance at Ryu-- “we could have a cup of tea?”
AKA you learn why you got called to Lin's office.
Pairing(s): Lin Beifong x Reader
Rating: T.
Word Count: 4.2k.
Also, a huge thank you to @chromecutie for beta reading this fic in addition to all the others in this series! I would not have had the confidence to post any of HTH if she hadn’t assured me that I was doing the characters justice.
Lin’s office is a real, proper office; go figure, she’s the Chief of Republic City’s entire police force. It’d be weird if she didn’t have a proper office.
It’s an expansive, long room, with wrought iron support beams and a dark, wood panelled ceiling. A desk sits in the center of the room, right across from double doors. There’s a leather chair that looks like it’s worth more than your apartment behind the desk, as well as one to the side of the desk (presumably for visitors or reporting officers).
There’s a small sitting area to the left of the doors. Two couches are positioned across from each other, with a metal coffee table in between. On the opposite wall is a wardrobe --you’re putting money on a second set of armor and some clean casual clothes, given the horror stories Lin’s told you about messy crime scenes.
Aside from a third couch tucked into the corner of the room --it looks luxuriously padded, and you’re also putting money on Lin sleeping on that couch during long haul shifts--and a vase to the right of the double doors, the rest of the room is entirely utilitarian. Filing cabinets, bookshelves, a few boxes with active case files in them.
It’s Lin to a tee. Thoroughly practical, borderline spartan, but what is there is more than you could afford in a lifetime.
You politely turn down Ryu’s offer of tea or coffee, then set your massage table and bag on the floor. You pace a short circuit back and forth, mentally filing through what you know about Lin and how her body bears out physical stress. Any injury is liable to have aggravated her hip, given the body’s tendency to compensate to avoid pain. Combine that with her scars and her left side’s propensity to knot up… she’ll probably need some stretching and healing work before I could even try to adjust her--
The doors open again --and in walks Lin Beifong.
You cross your arms over your chest and cock your head back. “Let me guess --you didn’t have time to see a healer earlier, and now it’s biting you in the ass.”
Lin’s eyebrows spike to her hairline. She blinks, then holds up her hand. “Whoa, no. I’m fine.”
“Cut the hippobullshit, Lin. Your personal secretary called me here--”
“It’s not for me,” Lin interjects. She glances behind her, then closes the doors before continuing. “It’s… for one of the younger officers. Something of a situation.”
Your brows draw together as you frown. “If they’re seriously injured, they should go to the hospital--”
“No, no, it’s not like that. He was…” Lin grimaces as her voice trails off, “...advised to see someone like you after getting injured during the dock explosion debacle, but he’s… not comfortable with the thought of getting adjusted.”
“Oh.” You blink, wind going out of your sails as the panic ebbs. “And… your assistant called me…”
“I asked her to,” Lin clarifies. “I know I can trust you to handle this right.”
Something warm and heavy settles in your chest at the thought that Lin trusts you, especially with the well-being of someone that’s clearly important to her. You gulp hard and ignore the way your eyes are starting to sting. “Oh. Thanks.”
The sound of footsteps and chatter outside Lin’s office draws both your attention.
Ryu opens the doors and lets two young men in --one shorter and stocky, the other taller, leaner.
“--and he says to me ‘my birthday’s every year, dude,’” the shorter one --he’s got gentle green eyes and dark, wavy hair--laughs. “Like, if the bushel of lilyweed I caught him with wasn’t evidence enough--” He pauses when he sees you and Lin waiting, takes one look at your bag and table, then tries to book it. “Nope!”
The taller one grabs him by the shoulders. “Bolin, come on! It’ll be okay!”
“Nope! I’m totally fi --agh!”
You wince sympathetically when the younger one cringes and jerks in pain, then step forward so you can get one arm behind him, then introduce yourself as you usher him into Lin’s office. “Its nice to meet you, Bolin. Why not sit down for a minute, okay? Take a load off? Maybe” --you glance at Ryu-- “we could have a cup of tea?”
The assistant smiles knowingly, nods, then slips out of the room.
“Okay, sure,” Bolin concedes, still wincing. “But I promise, I’m totally fine.”
You hold up your hands and take a seat on the other side of the coffee table. “Understood.” You staunchly ignore the way your pulse spikes when Lin sits next to you --Spirits, the effect this woman has on you--and turn your attention to the other man. You introduce yourself and extend your hand.
He takes it --firm grip, but not painful. “I’m Mako.” He nods to the younger man. “I’m his brother.”
“Ah, wonderful.” You smile warmly at the brothers. “How long have you two been on the force?”
***
It’s easy to get the boys talking --or, rather, it’s easy to get Bolin talking.
Mako’s a harder platypusbear egg to crack, but there are small things to pick up on; the way he frowns whenever Bolin winces in pain, for instance, tells you he’s genuinely concerned about his brother. He sits a little straighter whenever he looks over at Lin, but he’s not sweating or cowering in front of her, which you take to mean that he wants to impress her, to earn her approval.
He’s also watching you closely --which is fair, considering you likely scare his brother.
You meet his scrutiny with a relaxed, polite smile and do your best to convey ‘I’m here to help, please trust me,’ through your eyes and posture.
Bolin’s far more relaxed around Lin --almost remarkably so. He leans back against the couch as much as he comfortably can, and actually jokes with her (or tries to, but he doesn’t seem deterred whenever Lin doesn’t respond with more than a twitch of an eyebrow).
You also catch him looking towards Lin whenever he talks about an aspect of his job, a hopeful smile on his face, which then broadens every time she nods or confirms whatever he’s saying.
Honestly, it’s adorable.
(Lin’s also an interesting one to watch in all of this. She’s still as stoic as ever, but she doesn’t roll her eyes at Bolin’s lame jokes or talk down to Mako despite him being miles lower in rank than her. If anything, the air you’re getting from her is… warm. Almost maternal.
It’s wonderful to see.)
“I’ve been studying for the detective’s exam, though,” Bolin chirps with a bright smile. “Mako says I’m doing pretty good.”
You grin, then shoot a playful glance at Lin. “And your thoughts, Chief?”
Lin smirks and crosses her arms over her chest. “They’re both green --but, with time and training, they’ll be excellent members of the police force.”
There’s no missing the way both boys glow under Lin’s praise; Bolin outright beams, and while Mako’s more subtle, you still catch the small, pleased smile that flickers across his features.
You smile.
There’s a brief pause in the conversation when Ryu walks in with a tea set. She sets it on the coffee table between the two benches, then leaves with a nod when Lin waves her off.
You murmur a quiet “Thank you” when Lin fills your cup, then turn your attention back to Bolin. Time to try and make forward progress. “So, what happened to your neck?”
Bolin turns his head to look at you --and promptly winces. “What? What do you mean? How did you know?”
“You’re not the only detective,” you say with a wink. You smile when he chuckles, then gestures to his neck and head. “You’re compensating. You’re tilting your head to one side to avoid using the injured muscles. You probably didn’t even realize it.”
Bolin’s eyes widen. “Wait, seriously?” He tries to straighten his neck, then grimaces and lets out a yelp. “Ow!”
“Just leave it be for now,” you interject, holding one hand out to stop him. “You won’t be able to force it to straighten out on your own. Best leave it to the professionals.”
He offers you a weak smile. “And that’s you?”
You smile and nod. “That’s me. I’m a chiropractor and massage therapist; I specialize in scar tissue treatment and injury rehabilitation. Started my degree at Atege Medical University in the Northern Water Tribe, then finished it here at Republic City Medical University, and then I did my training here in Republic City at Kyoshi Rehabilitation Center. About… oh, five years ago, I moved to the Northern Moon Physical Therapy Facility.”
Mako raises one thick eyebrow in assessment. “So that’s… what, seven years?”
You snort. “Flattering, but no. Try closer to twelve. Medical school and residency takes a long time for chiropractors, too.” You spare a moment to watch Bolin --he’s paled since you’ve started talking about being a chiropractor, and the rest of his body’s gone tense--then try getting to the point once more. “What happened to your neck?”
He grimaces and rubs the side of his neck. “I was at the docks when the explosion went off. I didn’t get hit by the debris or anything, but the shockwave knocked a lot of us over.”
You nod along. “That makes sense. Considering how close you were, the shockwave might’ve been enough to throw something out of alignment.”
Bolin grimaces. He hesitates, then offers you a nervous smile. “Look, I appreciate you coming all the way out here, but I’m fine. I promise! I’ve had tons of injuries before --used to do competitive pro-bending, all that jazz. I know how to handle these kinds of things: a little heat, some stretching, and everything will clear up before too long.”
“Street beat’s a physically demanding job,” Lin interjects. She arches an eyebrow when Bolin opens his mouth, then continues when he closes it. “I can’t have you on the duty roster if you’re hobbled.”
“Not to mention that if something’s out of alignment, you could make it worse by stretching,” you add with a concerned frown. “And things are likely to get worse without treatment, too. I know this isn’t your favorite idea,” you say with a sympathetic smile, “but it really is best to handle things early before they become bigger problems down the road.”
“It’ll be okay,” Mako assures his younger brother. He puts one arm around Bolin’s shoulders. “Chief’s the one who called her in; she wouldn’t ask some quack.”
The corner of your mouth turns up at the commendation, but your mirth fades when you watch Bolin cover his face with shaking hands. You cock your head to the side, listening, then purse your lips when you hear a quiet sniffle. “What is it about adjustment that scares you so much?”
Bolin shrugs (and winces), then waves his hand dismissively with an unsteady smile. “Eh, it’s nothing. No big deal to let someone jerk around your neck like crazy; not like it’s gonna break or anything.” He grimaces, then ducks his head to hide the tears forming in his eyes. “That’d just be stupid.”
“It’s not stupid,” you assure him. You duck your head so you can catch his gaze, then smile understandingly when he looks at you. “It’s not. Self-preservation is one of our most natural, baseline instincts. Besides, you’re hardly the first client to be scared of getting adjusted.”
Bolin straightens gingerly. “I’m not?”
You shake your head. “Not at all. I work with a lot of trauma patients; several of them have anxiety over being touched and adjusted. And I’ve had a lot of people ask me about snapping necks, believe it or not.”
Bolin turns his head to one side and assesses you warily. “And… what do you tell them?”
“The truth: I don’t use remotely enough force to snap a neck,” you say, “nor am I working at the right angles to cause a break. It’s not as easy as all the pulp fiction novels make it seem.” When Bolin doesn’t relax completely, you start mulling over other ideas to help convince him. Chances are he’s never been adjusted before, given how nervous he is, meaning he doesn’t have any previous experience to apply to what I’m saying. Short of letting him watch an adjustment-- You snap your fingers when a lightbulb turns on in your mind. “What if… what if you could watch me adjust someone else? That way, you’d be able to see that it’s perfectly safe.”
Bolin quirks his mouth to the side. “...I guess. It couldn’t hurt.”
You nod, then turn to Lin. “Would you be willing to let me adjust you, since you’ve already been through it all before?”
Lin nods without hesitation, then smirks. “I’m guessing I’ll need to take my armor off.”
“Well, since I’d rather adjust your back than crush my hand, yes,” you quip back. You shoot a reassuring smile at Bolin, then stand. “Let me set up my table.”
...
Bolin, for all his warmth and magnanimity, doesn’t coax along easily. It takes adjusting both Lin and Mako before he agrees to it (who has scarring in his left arm from a lightning injury that he got, according to him, while taking down Kuvira’s giant mechadroid less than half a year ago, and if you get a little too caught up in analyzing his injury and talking about treatment plans and Lin has to remind you --albeit subtly--that this is her office and she has work to do, well, it’s only a tribute to your commitment to your career.
Anyway.)
Between the three of you, though, you manage to get Bolin onto your massage table so you can start working on him.
He grunts as you dig into the muscles that run along his neck. “I know what you said about not using enough force, but it sounds like you’re breaking something.”
“I get it,” you laugh. “What you’re hearing, though, is the release of gas that builds up in the joints and tissue, plus the joints and ligaments being adjusted back into place.” You let up for a moment so you can reposition your thumbs, then press down again.  “Okay, deep breath in… and out… good; just like that.”
Some light examination and prodding with your waterbender had revealed the culprits: stuck rib heads in the upper back, a few misaligned vertebrae in the neck, and some very irritated and inflamed muscles. Painful, but easy to fix with the right treatment.
You curl your fingers, using your waterbending to knead the muscles in Bolin’s right shoulder. “Oh, come on… I know you’re not happy, but if you could please relax for me…”
Bolin groans when the muscle finally unkinks. “Oh, yeah, that’s the spot.”
“I bet,” you laugh. You bend the rest of the water back into your skein, then put some oil on his skin and start working the spot with your hands.
“Is it hard to work around injuries?” he asks, voice slightly muffled by the massage table’s headrest.
You make the grunt equivalent of a shrug. “It depends on the location and what state of healing it’s in. Sometimes, it means I can’t do a normal adjustment --or do one at all, really; some injuries or scars mean that moving the joints and ligaments around would cause further damage to the site. Other times, it’s a matter of waiting until everything’s healed, and then I can do normal adjustments again.”
“How can you tell which to do --oooh, right there.”
Your lips turn up in a small smile, and you keep working a tense, knotted muscle in his upper back. “The patient’s medical history tells me a lot. X-Ray imaging helps, too, if there is any --and I can usually get a good feel for what’s wrong with my waterbending.” You keep going until the muscle releases, then pat Bolin’s shoulder. “Okay, I think you’re ready for adjustment.”
As expected, he tenses. His neck works as he gulps, and when he speaks again, his voice comes out high-pitched and thready. “Are you sure?”
“I wouldn’t try if I didn’t think you’d adjust properly.” When Bolin doesn’t respond --or move--you kneel down so you can see his face through the hole in the head of the massage table. “Hey. It’s going to be okay. We’ll take this nice and slow, alright? I’ll tell you everything I’m going to do before I do it.”
Bolin nods, gulps again, then flips onto his back.
“I need you to sit up so I can put the adjustment board under your back.” You slip the board into place, then put a pillow under his head before having him shift lower on the table. “Okay, good. I’ll adjust your middle and upper back first, like I did on Lin. You might feel some discomfort in your upper back because of how the rib heads are stuck, alright?”
Bolin nods, then offers you a feeble smile. “You’re sure I’m not too heavy for you?”
You wink. “I’m stronger than I look. Whenever you’re ready, cross your arms over your chest.” Once he does what you ask, you adjust his arms so they’re in the right position. “Okay, curl your chin down against your chest… good. Alright, it’s gonna be just like how you saw on Lin. I’m gonna help lift you up, I’ll put my hand under your back, and then I’ll lay you down so I can adjust your back. Sound good?”
Bolin clenches his jaw, but meets your gaze and nods minutely.
“Alright. You ready?” When he nods again, you do exactly as you said you would --help Bolin curl upwards, put your hand under his back, against the board, then adjust the position of your arm around his shoulders. “Alright, deep breath in… and out.”
The series of adjustments up his spine go without a hitch. You grin down at Bolin after the last adjustment and congratulate him for doing so well. “You took that like a champ!”
Bolin blinks, startled, then smiles. “Eh, I’ve been told I’m a quick learner.”
“Oh, you’re an absolute natural.” You grin when he chuckles, then step towards the head of the table. “I’ll give you a minute before I do anything else, but is it okay if I feel around your neck to see where the tension is?”
Bolin pales. His eyes go misty, but he nods regardless.
You murmur a quiet “thank you,” then put one hand on each side of his neck and start prodding at the muscles. “Well, it’s better after the massage work and the adjustment.” You rub your thumb against his trapezius muscle, then grimace when it refuses to relax for you. “Actually…” You take your hands off his neck and rifle through your bag. “I think I’m going to use an activator on your neck, if you’re comfortable with that.”
“What’s that?” Bolin asks, voice fraught with panic.
You hold the device up for him to see. “I use it to tap the side of your neck; it helps loosen up your joints so that when I adjust you, we get you back to your full range of motion.” You fire the device so he can see, and your stomach sinks when you see tears well up in his eyes. “I can use it on your forearm, if you want, soyou can feel how hard it’s going to be.”
Bolin swallows hard, then nods. He holds his arm up --then blinks when you press the tip of the activator against his arm and fire it. “Oh. I thought it’d be a lot stronger than that.”
“Tui and La, no,” you say with a laugh. “The neck’s a delicate instrument; I’m not trying to make things worse for you.”
Bolin smiles shakily, but it slips back to a frown after a few seconds. “Is… Will it hurt?”
“I’ve never had a patient complain before,” you say, sincere. “I’d be stunned if you felt any pain whatsoever from this.” You smile reassuringly when he gives you a questioning look, then place the tip of the activator against his neck when he nods. “Alright. I’m going to tap you a few times on each side of the neck, then I’ll take another feel at what your joints and muscles are doing. Okay?”
“Can you… give me a minute?”
“Of course.” You pull the activator away from his neck, then place a hand on his shoulder when he inhales shakily. “Hey, deep breaths. You’re gonna be fine. I promise.” After a moment he nods again, and you press the activator back against his neck and fire it.
“...It kind of tickles.”
You let out a huff of laughter. “That’s a new one.” You finish working on both sides of his neck, then tuck the device back in your bag before putting your hands on his neck once more. “Alright, right now I’m just going to stretch your muscles some more and get your head into position, okay?”
Bolin clenches his fists at his side. “Could you --do you think you could give me a countdown before you, y’know, do it?”
“Uh…” You purse your lips, then shake your head. “I don’t think so, no. I don’t want you tensing right as I try to adjust you; you’re liable to get hurt that way.”
“It’ll be okay, kid,” Lin says when Bolin lets out a shaky breath. “I wouldn’t have called her if she wasn’t the best.”
You duck your head to hide a shy smile, then try to focus past the warm glow spreading through your chest. “Okay, Bolin. Deep breath; in through the nose, out through the mouth… good, just like that.” You slowly turn his neck, angling his head until you feel the right resistance. “Tilt your chin up; I’m gonna stretch your neck a little.” You tug gently until the muscles loosen, then surreptitiously keep working him to the proper angle. “Good… just stretching… feeling everything out…” You adjust the position of your hands on his neck. “Another deep breath in, then let it all out.” You wait for him to exhale --for his shoulders to relax--then jerk his head to the side.
Bolin grunts, then shoots you a wide eyed look. “You said you were just stretching me?”
You smile apologetically. “I needed to make sure you were relaxed. Makes things better for both you and me. Did you feel any pain?”
“No,” Bolin says after a moment of consideration. “It felt… pretty good, actually.”
“Good!” You start massaging the other side of his neck. “You think you’re still alive?”
He chuckles. “Pretty sure I’m still breathing, yeah.”
“Good stuff,” you joke right back. “Means less malpractice suits for me.” You grin when he laughs, then start stretching the other side of his neck. “Let’s do this side, and then I’ll do your lower back and get you back to work.”
***
“Sorry that took so long.”
Lin waves a hand at your apology. “It’s fine. I figured the kid would take a while to calm down enough for an adjustment.” She offers you a small smile. “Thanks for making the trip up here.”
“Of course.” You resume packing up your things, then let out a quiet laugh. “Honestly, I’m just glad it wasn’t you that needed an adjustment. I damn near had a heart attack when the receptionist told me your assistant called.”
“I told you I was fine.”
You shoot Lin a flat, unimpressed stare. “Right, because you’re the type to always consider the limits and needs of your physical well being.” You roll your eyes when she merely arches an eyebrow at you, then zip the carrying case for your collapsible table shut. “How does the department handle billing?”
“Send the bill to my assistant,” Lin answers, writing down the proper mailing address on a slip of paper before handing it over to you. “She’ll file it with the department’s insurance company. The department will pay out the rest.”
You nod and reach out to take the paper--
Lin holds it back. “Write the bill for all three adjustments. Clear?”
You smirk and pluck the paper out of her fingers. “Pay me more. Fine by me.” You grin when she rolls her eyes, then cast your gaze down to her desk.
It’s a nice desk. Solid, polished wood, with engravings and etchings of Earth Kingdom style patterns.
Unbidden, images of Lin fucking you on her desk --bending you over it, laying you out on your back, sitting in her chair while you bury your face between her legs--flood your name.
Lin either picks up on the spike in your pulse, or maybe she knows your facial expressions well enough to know when you’re horny. Either way, she smirks up at you. “Problem?”
“No…” You absently trace your fingers along the edge of her desk, then shoot her an impish smile before grabbing your things. “Call me when you have a free night.”
You can hear Lin chuckle behind you as you walk out of her office.

“the president and the troublemaker” (part 1) (chilumi fic)
“Lumine is the student council president and Childe is the school’s number one troublemaker. They cross paths more than they’d like. Especially when Childe finds out Lumine’s big secret. Highschool AU à la Kaichou wa Maid-sama.”
if anyone has seen maid-sama, Lumine and Childe sometimes reminded me of Misaki and Usui so i had to write it hehe :3 if you haven’t seen it, i highly suggest it, its a very cute anime and if you like chilumi, you’ll definitely like the main couple in it! its on netflix! :D

“the president and the troublemaker” (part 1)
“Childe, for the last time, earrings are against the school uniform code,” Lumine said to him, eyes narrowing at the red jewelry dangling from his ear. He may have towered over her, but she was the student council president—she had to enforce the rules no matter what.
Childe tilted his head, fingers grazing over his earring. “A tiny thing like this? Surely you can let me off the hook, Madame President?”
“No exceptions. Remove it now or I will forcibly confiscate it from you.”
He scoffed, turning away. “I’d like to see you try.”
Lumine clenched her jaw, watching his back retreat down the hallway. Oh, she could easily take it from him. But this wasn’t the place to use brute force. As much as he boiled her blood, she wouldn’t dare reveal her secret here.
Childe, the school’s number one troublemaker: always getting into fights, never listening to authorities, doing whatever he pleased. And the worst part? He always got away with it.
The girls of the school fawned over his good looks, the boys envied his strength, and the elders fell victim to his charisma.
Not Lumine though. She refused to be influenced by him. Maybe that’s why he always seemed so annoyed by her. Good.
She ripped out a page of her student council notebook, scribbling out Childe’s name and dress code violation, pocketing it to turn in later.
She practically stomped her way into the student council room, earning a glance from the Vice President—her twin brother Aether.
“Childe?” he asked, going back to typing on his laptop.
Lumine slumped in her chair. “Yes,” she nearly growled. “How did you know?”
“Because he always puts you in the worst of moods,” her brother answered. “Maybe it wouldn’t hurt to put him in his place.”
“And get kicked out of school for murder? No thank you; I’m not ruining an absolutely clean record for the likes of someone like Childe.” She flipped through her notebook, seeing all her citations on said troublemaker. “Soon enough, that boy is going to get expelled, mark my words.”
Suddenly, the door burst open, and the student council reporter—a student named Bennett—dashed in, holding the side of his face.
“Madame President!” he announced. “There’s a fight breaking out in the hallway!”
Both Aether and Lumine stood. “What happened to your face, Bennett?” Aether asked.
The reporter let out a sheepish laugh. “I, uh, tried to break up the fight but ended up getting punched in the face.”
“Okay, c’mon, let’s get you to the nurse,” Aether said, walking Bennett out the door.
Lumine quickly walked out after them, hearing the commotion down the hallway. As she turned the corner, there was a crowd of students circled around the tussle.
“Out of the way!” Lumine shouted.
At the sound of her voice, many students scattered back to their classrooms, leaving only the perpetrators still fighting: a short boy with cropped blue hair and—Childe.
“Hey!” she yelled. “Break. It. Up! Or it’s suspension for the both of you!”
The short boy gave Childe a harsh shove, adjusting his odd cap with tassels on the sides. “You don’t have to fight me every time you see me, you brute,” the boy hissed.
Childe laughed. “C’mon, Scaramouche, don’t be like that,” the ginger said. “We were just having some fun, Madame President; no need to make a big fuss out of it.”
Lumine glared at him. “Why are you always at the center of trouble?”
Childe shrugged. “Life’s too boring.”
Taking out her notebook, she scoffed. “Well, it’s about to get a whole lot more boring for you. Detention. After school. Both of you.”
“It was just some play fighting between friends, Pres,” Childe insisted. “Don’t be so stuck-up.”
“Not play fighting when one of my council members gets hit in the face,” she retorted angrily.
“Can I at least be let off the hook?” Scaramouche interjected. “He was the one who attacked me.”
The blonde sighed. “Fine. This was your first offense anyways.”
“Today’s his first day after all,” Childe supplied.
“It’s his first day and you welcomed him by attacking him?” Lumine asked, crossing her arms.
He smiled. “What can I say? We know each other.”
I want to punch that smile off his face. “Scaramouche, go back to class. Childe, you’re coming with me to in-school suspension.”
Scaramouche muttered something under his breath and walked away, while Childe cheerfully waved goodbye to him.
Lumine started walking down the other way, towards the ISS room, Childe’s footsteps falling in behind her. Most of the way was done in silence. Until—
“Say, Pres, why are you so stuck-up?” Childe asked.
Lumine grit her teeth. “Have you ever thought maybe I’m not stuck-up, and maybe you’re just a troublemaker?”
“Hey, at least I make your life a little more interesting, don’t I?”
“Not interesting. So much more unbearable.”
“Maybe you should loosen up. Being like this won’t make you many friends.”
“And fighting people will?”
“Fighting is fun. You’re telling me you’ve never watched a fight and found it entertaining?”
Lumine stopped in her tracks. “Of course not. You only do it when something’s seriously on the line. Not for fun.”
“Uh-uhm, excuse me,” a timid voice said.
Lumine turned to find a girl, she looked young, probably a freshman, clutching a card. “Can I help you?” the president asked.
“A-actually,” the girl responded, “can I t-talk to Ch-Childe? A-Alone?”
The blonde glanced at Childe, who shrugged back at her. Letting out a sigh, she said, “Yes, go ahead.” She was doing this for the girl. Not Childe.
She walked ahead and turned the corner until she was out of sight and unable to hear. After a minute or so, the freshman girl ran past her, hysterically crying. Brows furrowed, she went back to Childe.
“So, where are we going?” he asked nonchalantly.
Asshole. “What the hell did you do to her?” Lumine asked. “Do I really need to write you up again?”
“What? All I did was reject her confession.”
A glare at him. “Be nicer. Don’t make girls cry.” She continued walking.
“Or maybe she should just be stronger.”
“Don’t you dare insult a girl’s strength in front of me.”
“I’m not insulting the strength of a woman. I’m just saying people in general could do better if only they were stronger.” His strides quickened, and soon he was in front of her. He flicked the earring dangling from his ear. “For instance, if you had the strength, you could easily rip this from my ear, and you could stop stacking up those useless dress code citations for me.”
Lumine had to clench her teeth to stop herself from murdering him on the spot. “I’m your student council president. I don’t solve things through violence. Which is why you and I are different.” Lie, her gut hissed.
She stopped, throwing open the door to her left, gesturing into the room. “You’ll spend the rest of the school day here.” She turned in, looking at the teacher. “Mr. Diluc, you have a student here for in-school suspension for the rest of the day.”
Mr. Diluc glanced up from his book, expressionless. “Childe. Back so soon?”
Childe sauntered in, taking a seat. “You know our Pres. Always working on cleaning up the school from scum like me.”
“Good for her,” Diluc said. “Thank you, Lumine.”
Lumine nodded and closed the door behind her. Finally.
At least Childe wouldn’t be causing anymore trouble today.
* * *
Lumine shivered as the chilling locker room hit her bare skin. Shedding her hoodie, she donned a simple black sports tank top and shorts.
“Are they ever going to get heaters for these locker rooms?” she muttered.
“It’s an underground fighting ring,” Aether said, “You think they can afford state-of-the-art locker rooms?” He tossed her a roll of hand wraps.
She caught it, unraveling it, and started to wrap them around her knuckles. “You’re right. As long as they pay me, I shouldn’t be complaining.”
Aether nodded, taking her gloves out from her gym bag. “Are you ever going to tell Mom how you get all this cash?”
“Never. She’d probably die of a heart attack.”
“And your injuries?”
“I try not to get any,” she said with a smirk. “If I do, then, hey, the restaurant business can be dangerous...and I can be clumsy.”
And that was her big secret.
In the night, Lumine was a top tier fighter in Teyvat’s underground fighting ring. She was known as “The Outlander.”
After their father had walked out on them years ago, Lumine, Aether, and their mother were left with a huge amount of his debt to pay off. Their mother took on two jobs to support them, leaving her exhausted, sickly, and barely home. Lumine and Aether couldn’t find decent paying jobs at their age, so Lumine took matters into her own hands.
Through her tenacity, she trained hard and started showing up to the underground fights, learning her way through the system, and eventually began fighting herself. Sure, it was illegal due to the violence and betting system, but it made good money—fast. Enough money to support their family, pay off the debt, and save some aside for her and Aether’s future.
Aether of course still worked as a cashier at a local grocery store (next to the restaurant Lumine claimed she worked at); Lumine would never let her dear brother participate in her line of work. He was only allowed to come along to cheer her on.
She was also good at it. After some training, her instructors all praised her natural fighting instincts. In a matter of months, she had become one of the top fighters in her area.
It was out of necessity. They needed the money.
Of course, no one knew who she really was. She always fought with a mask on—she couldn’t let her identity be compromised. A high school student beating up all these grown adults? A chance she could be recognized and reported to authorities? No. Way. Plus, people liked the mysterious Outlander figure. Might as well milk it.
The cheers above her swelled, and Lumine did her final stretches and prepped to go out on stage.
“You ready to fight tonight?” Aether asked.
Lumine slipped her mask on. “Always.”
She made her way up the staircase, and the buzzing crowd grew louder and louder, until she entered the arena, and the cheers became deafening.
The arena was probably around the size of her school gym, maybe smaller, but packed to the brim with cheering fans and a boxing cage in the middle.
She made her way up to the cage, chants of “Outlander” swirling around her, and took her walk around the area, getting a feel for the night. Eventually, her mind blurred out the crowd, focusing on becoming in tune with her body.
Tonight, her opponent was another member of the Hilichurl gang: a gang notorious for entering lots of members into these types of fights, even if they weren’t good, as a way to try and earn any kind of money for their gang. It was an easy win. Lumine barely got hit. (The Hilichurl on the other hand ended the night sobbing his heart out on stage. Lumine felt kind of bad. Kind of.)
Soon enough, she and Aether were on their way home with a fresh wad of cash in their bag, practically skipping their way past the dim street lights. As they made their way towards their bus home, Lumine rifled through her bag, realizing she had left one of her textbooks in the locker room from when she had been studying before the fight.
She cursed. Now she had to go all the way back to the arena. “Aether, you need to get home—the next bus won’t be here for another hour.”
“Lumine, I am not leaving you alone in this sketchy part of town.”
“And you have to be there when Mom gets back, otherwise she’ll get suspicious.” Lumine was already turning around. “Tell her I had to stay behind at the restaurant to help clean up.”
Her brother pursed his lips.
“Aether. I’ll be fine. Did you seriously forget what I did to get that stack of cash?” she reassured.
He sighed. “Fine, fine. You’re right.” He hugged his sister. “Still. Be careful, please.”
She held up her fist which was still wrapped in the fighter’s tape. “Of course. See you back home.”
With that, the twins went separate ways.
Now maskless, Lumine went the back ways to the arena, entering through a side door, avoiding the still rowdy crowd of spectators gathered for the late night fights. She successfully grabbed her textbook, and walked back out the side door. Straight into somebody.
Shit. “Excuse me,” she mumbled, keeping her head down, hoping they wouldn’t ask why some little high school girl was sneaking around the underground fighting arena.
But then the person spoke.
“Wow,” a familiar voice said.
Lumine looked up, wide eyed. Shitshitshitshit—
“This is a surprise,” Childe said, “Madame President.”

The 5am train is full of commuters, heading into work with coffee cups in hand and more or less rested ready to start the day. Everyone seems to be on the same page, consume enough caffeine to be personable by the time you get to the office, use the time on the train to do your hair or makeup or start a little early on emails from your phone if you’re behind. It’s all very hustle and bustle, keep your head down and keep grinding to make it in the big city.
Paz rode the 5am train every morning. But not heading into the city. No, he got on the train at 5am and rode it all the way down to the end of the line to get back to his dumpy little shoebox of an apartment on the outskirts of the city around 8am.
Why he chose to move to the city after getting out of the Marine Corps was beyond him. His commander told him that he had a friend that was looking to hire some muscle as private security for his upper echelon nightclubs and it could be a good job opportunity for him fresh out of the service. Not having anywhere else to go, he took the job. Now his days blurred together in a lopsided haze. Wake up around 3pm, eat something cheap and tasteless, work out, shower and get dressed to work. Catch the 6pm train into the city and spend all three hours thinking about far away places. What his life might be like if he was someone else or somewhere else. Get to the club and start work at 9pm. Spend the night watching people dance and sing and scream, drink ridiculously expensive alcohol and take brightly colored party drugs that blow out their pupils and make them want to dance and sing more. By the time 5am rolls around again his head is pounding from listening to electronic dance music for 8 continuous hours, and he spends the remaining 3 hours of his day riding the train back out of the city and wishing he had made different choices in his life.
Of course he does get Monday’s and Tuesday’s off, those days he still doesn’t really know what to do with himself. It’s too expensive to have a car in the city, so he can’t drive anywhere. And he’s too far away from any of the attractions of the city to walk to them. So he tends to spend his off days either walking around the track at the local park, or in his tiny kitchen kneading bread dough and baking test batches until it comes out the way he liked it. This is one of the big things he spends his time wondering about. If he kept up working in private security, and paying for this shit apartment, would he someday be able to afford to move closer to work and spend less time commuting? Maybe he could eventually save up and get a place with a bigger kitchen so he could try making more things. He liked baking. Kneading bread dough, making cake batter, mixing frosting colors. It’s telling that a man like him dreamt about pastries and cooking every night, and spent his long commuting hours debating on saving up more for a better place or spending a little extra on culinary equipment.
He didn’t tell anybody this is how he spent his time and money, not that he really talked to anyone these days anyway. Since leaving the service he hasn’t been good about keeping up with his brothers in arms, or his friends from before getting deployed. He hasn’t really made new friends in the city either. It’s not that he doesn’t want to talk to any of them, he’s just busy and when he does think about reaching out to someone, he always figures they’re busy too. Every day the sun rises and sets, and it’s like he’s just floating through life, waiting for something to change.
One Monday, Paz is walking around the track at the local park. It’s scraggly and not well maintained but at least it’s outdoors. He’s thinking about the sourdough loaf back in his apartment rising right now. Hopefully this one will turn out good, he’s planning to try a dutch oven bake soon, but that requires buying a dutch oven and he’s trying so hard to save up for a better apartment. His phone vibrates in his pocket, and he considers just letting it go to voicemail figuring it was probably his boss asking him to come in and work tonight. But something in him tells him to look, the name on the screen surprises him. Din Djarin. His long time friend from way back before joining the service. Paz answered the phone.
“Hey buddy, Happy Birthday!” Din says. Paz stopped walking
“It’s not my birthday?” Paz stepped off to the side of the track and sat down on a bench running a hand over his face.
Din laughs on the other end of the line, “Yeah it is, April 30th right?”
Paz pulls his phone away from his face and checks the date, “Holy shit, it is my birthday,”
“Yeah man. Did you really forget?” Din asks, he sounds like he’s moving around Paz hopes he’s not bothering him or getting in the way of his day right now.
“Honestly yeah, it feels like April just started,” he admits
“Been busy then? Running around in the big city, making big money, romancing cute hunnies?” Din teases, Paz can hear another voice on the other side. He figure’s it’s Din’s son, he’s gotta be about two or three years old now.
“Yeah, something like that,” Paz mumbles
“Yeah? Then why don’t you sound happy about it?” Din asks, sensing his friends lack of enthusiasm
“It’s fine, really. The city is nice, I just wish I could actually live in it and enjoy it. Actually I wish everyone who lived here actually enjoyed it. Kinda just feels like everyone who lives here only knows how to work or be a strung out party goer,” Paz sighs
“Guess the big city life isn’t all it's cracked up to be huh,” Din says “Listen… you should come out to visit sometime. I feel like this city is more your style. We’re still a major city with nice attractions and events, but there’s more community here and things are a little slower ya know,”
“I can’t just drop everything and go all the way out there. You live over 2000 miles away,” Paz says, though the prospect of a smaller city with a community atmosphere does sound awfully appealing
“Paz, you’ve been working for a private security company for two years and I can almost guarantee that you haven’t taken a single hour of paid time off or sick leave. Flights are a little pricey, I’ll give you that, but you can stay with me so you don’t have to pay for a hotel or anything,” Din offers “I’ll pay for your half of your flight, call it a birthday present,”
“I’ll tell you what Din, I’ll think about it. You’re probably right, I do need to get out of the city for a bit. I’ll talk to the boss about taking some time off,” Paz says, standing back up.
“That’s the spirit!” Din exclaims “Call me when you figure out a time that’s good for you so we can book you a flight,”
Paz and Din chat idly for another couple of minutes before Din bids him goodbye, and happy birthday. Paz tucks his phone back into his pocket and smiles. For the first time in a very long time, he’s actually looking forward to something.
----
Two weeks later Paz is sitting on a plane for the first time since coming back to the states after deployment, with two weeks off of paid vacation time on his way to visit Din. It’s a long six and half hour flight and the seat is pretty small for how wide his frame is, but he’s hopeful. If nothing else, he was going to get to spend two weeks with his best friend.
Din is waiting for him at the airport when his flight arrives. He greets him with a bracing hug and the promise of a really good dinner waiting for him. The moment Paz steps out of the airport he knows he’s in trouble. Instead of a massive industrial looking city full of high rise buildings with thousands of people pushing their way through to get on with their day, he’s met with bright blue skies. Trees that are just starting to put out new leaves and flowers for spring. The air is fresh and clear. A feeling wells up in his chest, when he turns and can see mountains in the distance. It’s beautiful.
“You coming?” Din draws him out of his thoughts, tossing his suitcase in the back of his truck.
“Yeah, I just didn’t realize you lived so close to the mountains,” Paz admitted stepping up into the passenger seat.
“Everyone says that when they first come here. You should see them in winter when they’re covered in snow,” Din says. Paz can imagine it, but he hopes to see it with his own eyes.
Din drives through the city, it’s a lot like the city Paz had just come from, except older and less flashy. Less people, and less cars. All of the businesses looked unique and inviting.
Din passes a street and points down it without looking, “My studio is right down there. It’s a great little spot. All the business owners on the block are close, we play poker and shoot pool on Tuesday nights at the bar on the corner. You’re definitely coming with me for that this week,”
“I could shoot some pool,” Paz laughs.
Din turns out of the downtown area, and takes a main boulevard lined with fast food restaurants and dive bars. Din points again, “That’s the stadium for the university. Hope you like football, because it’s kind of a big thing here,”
“Still think I could have pulled a scholarship for football straight out of high school if I wasn’t so dead set on going into the Marine Corps,” Paz jokes
“It’s just as well,” Din shrugs with a smile “you make one hell of a Marine,”
Din turns down another road off the main drag. They pass parks, an elementary school, neighborhoods, and a lone Dairy Queen before turning into another neighborhood full of very nice houses with front lawns and trees giving off pink and white flower buds.
Din pulls the truck up into one of the driveways, and cuts the engine. Paz gets out of the truck and takes in the house. It’s massive by his standards.
“Is your girlfriend a CEO or something?” Paz asks with a laugh. Din gives him a look, and goes to take the suitcase out of the back.
“No? She and her brothers flip houses together,” he replies “why do you ask?”
“Your place is huge, man! When I was a kid these are the kind of houses I thought millionaires lived in,” Paz follows Din towards the front door.
Din laughs, as he unlocks the door. “Maybe in other states, but not here. The million dollar houses here are the size of castles. This house is pretty average for this area, and it didn’t cost us an arm and a leg to get,”
Paz nods and follows his friend into the house. It’s not just a house, it’s a home. Paz can tell because even though it’s clean on the inside it looks lived in, well loved. Pictures and art on the walls. The living room had a big tv and sectional couch, perfect for hosting game day events and watch parties. He could see a chest in the corner that clearly had toys in it. The kitchen was huge! A double doored refrigerator, cabinet space and marble countertops. He can see through a sliding glass door there’s a backyard, a play structure and home swing set sat in the middle of it for Din’s little boy. He didn’t have any pets but he could picture a dog running around out there too.
This is it. This is what he’d spent the last two years dreaming about on the train rides to and from the city. This is his far away place. He’s been here for less than half an hour and he already knows, he is meant to be here.
The next two weeks are the happiest Paz has ever felt. Exploring the downtown area, visiting the parks and the nature reserve just outside of town, the restaurants serve great food that doesn’t cost a fortune. He takes Din’s little boy to the zoo and out for ice cream. He gets to know Din’s girlfriend and her two brothers, apparently flipping houses in some of the older more run down parts of town is very rewarding and breathes new life into the city. He visits Din’s tattoo studio, and goes with him to the bar on Tuesday night like he promised.
Everyone there is friendly, welcoming and adamantly against him leaving at the end of the week.
“You sure you have to go back, you’re part of the crew man!” says Cara, she owns the boxing studio down the street.
Paz took a swing from his beer, and laughed “You think I want to go back there? I gotta figure out how to get out of my lease, quit my job. I gotta find somewhere to live and work here first,”
“If you’re looking for a job just to get on your feet, I could use another bartender,” Boba, the guy who owns the bar says “Fennec is looking to move to part time too, more time slots available for work,”
“If you’re serious, I’ll take you up on that offer,” Paz says.
Boba extends a hand to him, “Job’s yours if you want it,” Paz grins and shakes his hand.
A few days later Paz is genuinely sad about having to hug Din’s little boy goodbye, and get back on the plane to take him back across the country. Back to the city that never sleeps, and doesn’t appreciate the little things in life. Back to the six hours round trip of commuting. Back to the scraggly uncared for parks and dirty streets. He promised himself on that plane ride, he would not get caught up in the monotony and blinding routine like before. There is a better life waiting for him. All he has to do is make the leap of faith and take it.
———
He holds himself to his promise. In the first week when he got back he spent the entire three hour train ride to work researching apartments in the area he wanted to live. He was shocked to find out the exact same price he was paying for his shoebox apartment with no amenities and terrible maintenance; could get him a huge apartment with a big kitchen, access to a pool, gym, and shared entertainment space. It even came with a parking spot. And there were other options that were almost as nice for less money. And to think he had wasted so much time and money pretending he was happy, or was getting close to being able to afford to be happy living in the bigger city. What a joke.
He had Din submit an application to an apartment complex he really liked about a week after he got back. The second he found out he was approved and got the apartment, he put in his two weeks notice and started packing. Another six hours plane trip didn’t sound very appealing but, at least it was a one way trip this time.
Paz found moving out of his apartment to be exceptionally easy. He threw all of his belongings into two suitcases, and shipped the few things that wouldn’t fit in a box he could pick up at the post office when he got there. Everything else was not worth saving, so he put everything out on the side of the road in front of his old apartment with a piece of paper taped to it that read: FREE!
Unfortunately moving into the new apartment in the new city was a little more challenging. Furnishing an apartment from scratch is no small task. But to his amazement and truly heartfelt joy, all of Din’s friends he had met when he came to visit helped him move things into his new place. Boba even loaned him his truck to go pick up bigger furniture like the couch and bed frame he ordered. Cara and Peli, the woman who owned the auto parts store on the next block over from Din’s studio and Boba’s bar, sat with him for hours assembling IKEA furniture. Din’s girlfriend even came by with Din’s little boy, to visit uncle Paz and help him figure out how to appropriately decorate and furnish a “real apartment”.
He loves his new life in this new city. Working for Boba at the bar in the evenings is pretty low stress, and he makes quite a bit in tips. During the day he’s been working on sourdough starters, determining the best herbs and flavors to top focaccia bread, trying his hand at doing French baguettes. And more recently, he’s been trying to make chocolate croissants from scratch. Though he hasn’t had much success yet. But he keeps trying.
Every time something comes out perfect, he writes down every step in a blue notebook he found lying around with his things before he moved.
Paz never imagined his life turning out like this. If he was told just 3 months ago he would be moving across the country on a whim, to chase his dream of living a simpler life, he wouldn’t have believed it. And then things got even better.
About six months after moving, Paz really felt like he was home in this city. He split his time between working part time as an instructor at Cara’s boxing studio, bartending for Boba, and working on his culinary hobby. Until one day, the older couple that owned the bagel shop a few doors down from Din’s tattoo studio closed up shop. Apparently they were retiring, packing up the business and moving out of state to be closer to their grandchildren.
There was a sign on the vacant building indicating the unit was about to become available. A thought crossed his mind…. he had no idea where it came from or if he was remotely qualified to pull it off… but it couldn’t hurt to ask.
“Does anyone have a contact number for the couple that owned the bagel shop?” Paz asks the group
“Yeah,” Cara pipes up “I house sat for them once. Why?”
“I want to buy their industrial baking equipment, and takeover their lease,” he replies seriously
“You want to run the bagel shop?” Fennec asks
“No… I uh, I wanna open a bakery,” Paz admits
“You do make a mean sourdough dude…. I say go for it,” Din encourages him
“I’m sure they’ll sell you the equipment at a discount. Hell they might even leave it to you for free if you tell them what you’re gonna do with it,” Cara tells him, she writes down a phone number on a napkin and hands it to Paz. He pockets the napkin with a thank you and a nod.
The next day he calls the number, and has a lovely chat with the wife who, as Cara pointed out, was eager to get the equipment off their hands. She also provided a ton of helpful information on running a small business in this area, who trustworthy suppliers were, a good lawyer to get all the paperwork done, a good accountant to file taxes next spring, and more. Honestly it was a lot more than Paz has even considered, but something in his heart was telling him it’s the right decision. That this is a challenge he absolutely had to tackle. That maybe this has always been his calling.
And right he was. Vizsla’s Bakery had a grand debut the following autumn. And he knew, this is it. He’s finally made it. All of the time he spent in the Marines fighting in wars he never truly understood, all of his years spent working a mindless job in a depressing city, pretending he was not struggling. All of it has led him here. To a city he loves, with friends so close to him they’re like family, a home… a real home. And a dream he can finally live out.

Sansa stans keep criticizing Dany for literally every breath that she takes, and keep insisting that Sansa is "smarter", "better ruler", "better politician", etc. And this just makes me curious to know how they think Sansa would have acted better than Dany.
Like, let's say Sansa was in Dany's place and was forcibly married to Khal Drogo. Since Dany is so evil for "owning slaves" while she was married to Khal Drogo, what would Sansa do if she was in Dany's place? How would Sansa avoid being a "slave owner" that they accuse Dany of being? Then Khal Drogo and his khalasar attack some villages, take slaves and rape women. According to Sansa stans, Dany taking the women as her slaves is evil because she is not really saving those women, and therefore Dany deserved to be betrayed by Mirri. So what would Sansa do in Dany's place? What does Sansa do differently to "truly" save those women from the Dothraki?
Then let's suppose Sansa gets to Slaver's Bay and sees how dehumanized the slaves are. What does Sansa do, since Dany's way was clearly evil? Does Sansa just see all the slaves and leaves them there, since violence to free slaves is evil? Or since Dany's attack against the slave masters in Astapor was evil, does Sansa buy only the slaves that she could afford and then frees them, but leaves all the rest of the slaves behind, still enslaved? And what does Sansa do with these handful of slaves that she freed?  I mean, Sansa stans say that Dany allowing the Unsullied to follow her is wrong and clearly makes her a slaver who is just the Unsullied's new master. So Sansa obviously can't do what Dany did, because what Dany did is evil. Since letting the Unsullied follow you and using them as your army is wrong, would Sansa just leave the Unsullied behind, to live their own lives? But wouldn't this just leave these Unsullied vulnerable to being recaptured and re-enslaved if they're no longer organized as soldiers? What does Sansa do to protect them then, since using the Unsullied as soldiers is wrong? How does Sansa build a new life for them?
Since Dany attacking and conquering Yunkai and Meereen is also evil because it involves violence, what does Sansa do to free the slaves in those cities? She just… doesn't free them? Because I guess letting people remain enslaved is still more moral than using violence? Or does Sansa make pacific protests in front of those cities? How would this even work? Does anyone actually believe the slavers would just end slavery because some random girl was making a peaceful protetst? Oh, and if Sansa doesn't conquer either Yunkai or Meereen (because violence and conquering is evil), where does Sansa find the resources to feed the former slaves that she freed? Does she buy food from those cities? But how would she buy food, if she already spent the money she had in buying the slaves that she freed? Does Sansa just leave them behind to die, since she can't feed them (and taking the cities to feed them would involve violence, so Sansa clearly can't do that).
Ok, now let's supposed that Sansa does decide to conquer Meereen to feed her people like Dany did. How does Sansa do it better than Dany? I mean, we clearly know that Dany's way was evil and incompetent. Dany ended slavery in Meereen and didn't build a completely new economy out of nowhere in a single day. But Sansa is clearly smarter, more educated, more gracious, and more moral than Dany. So Sansa would clearly find a better way, right????
So how does Sansa manage to take Meereen without violence? Dany punished the rapists, looters and murderers in her army. But clearly that wasn't enough, Dany should have been competent enough to stop all of her soldiers from looting, raping and killing. So how does Sansa, the smartest politician evah, do to control every single person in her army and stop them from looting, killing and raping? Sansa is better than Dany, so Sansa would clearly find a way to avoid all of that, right??? Also, what does Sansa do to stop the slaves from revolting and killing and raping their former masters? Sansa is so superior to Dany, she would have clearly found a way, right???
Now, let's suppose that some Meereenese come to Sansa asking to sell themselves into slavery. Dany allowing it was clearly evil, so Sansa obviously won't allow it, because Sansa is superior to Dany. So what does Sansa do to stop them from asking to sell themselves? Remember, the Meereenese who ask to sell themselves were gently born and lived lives of luxury, and wanted to sell themselves to live in luxury as prized educated slaves. For Sansa to stop them from wanting to sell themselves, she needs to give them the kind of luxurious life these people were accustomed to. So how does Sansa do it? Does she just… take money from the city to pay for the luxury of these people, all to avoid them asking to sell themselves? But what about all the poor people in Meereen? If Sansa is going to pay some people a life of luxury, then she should do this for everyone, right? How does Sansa manage that? Does she plant a magic tree that grows money?
What about the people who come to Dany for justice? They would come to Sansa as well. Remember, there was a son of a master that comes asking for a former slave to be punished for killing and raping his mother. Dany had declared a pardon for all the crimes committed during the sack, but Sansa stans have clearly decreed that this was wrong and evil. So what does Sansa do? Does Sansa go around killing all former slaves accused of crimes when they revolted against their masters? And how does Sansa avoid the complete political chaos that would arise from that? How does Sansa stop the former slaves from turning against her? Sansa is clearly a political genius, so I guess her huge brain would devise a strategy that would allow her to kill slaves who rose against their masters, all without the former slaves turning against her and all without creating chaos and violence in Meereen. Suuuuure. Because Sansa is clearly a genius and clearly a more morally correct person than Dany, so she would have found a magical way, of course.
And what does Sansa do when a former slave comes asking the former master to be gelded for raping his wife? Dany refuses to punish, because at the time it happened, the crime wasn't illegal, and if she granted this she would have to geld every man who ever slept with a sex slave, meaning that she would have to geld almost everyone in Meereen. But Dany was clearly evil and wrong in her decision. So I guess… Sansa would have granted the request and gelded the man? But then, what would Sansa do when former sex slaves started coming to her all asking for their former masters to be gelded? Would Sansa go on a hunt across Meereen in order to geld all the rapists? But wouldn't this be too violent, and isn't violence evil according to Sansa stans? Also, wouldn't this kiiiiinda cause a huge political chaos and create more war within the city? How does Sansa manages to punish all the rapists without creating political chaos? Or maybe… Sansa could imprison them all? But to imprison all the people who ever slept with sex slaves, she would have to build prisons, wouldn't she? I doubt there's all that space ready in Meereen. So how does Sansa do that, in a short span of time? And how does Sansa manages to capture all the rapists in Meereen? I mean, surely the former masters would fight back against this. So how does Sansa do this, and all without creating chaos and violence in Meereen? I guess the better solution would be to have been conciliatory and not gelded men who slept with sex slaves when slavery was legal, but then Sansa would have been just as evil as Dany…
Ok, now, how about the economy? Sansa stans say that Dany was incompetent in not rebuilding an entire new economy in the time span of one week, so how would Sansa manage that? How does Sansa end slavery without creating any economic problems (considering that slaves were the only thing Meereen exported)? Does Sansa plant magic beans that grow in a single night? Does Sansa buy teleportation machines in order to travel across Essos to negotiate trade deals with different cities? And how does she even convince the slave cities of Essos to trade with a city that just ended slavery? I guess Sansa super charm and courtesy magic would have made them all want to be friends with her, right? Or maybe Sansa just negotiates with Braavos… but for that to work in such a short span of time (remember, Sansa needs to rebuild the economy in one week) Sansa needs to use that teleportation machine, or else she can't get to Braavos. Also, what will Sansa even trade??? Meereen had nothing but slaves and olives to trade. The slavers burned the olives, and Sansa ended slavery, so wtf would she trade? Oooops. My bad. I forgot Sansa had magic seeds that made crops grow in a single day. I guess Sansa can trade those magic crops. Or maybe… Sansa ends slavery gradually, in order not to collapse the economy? But that would make Sansa a slaver, wouldn't it? How does she justify forcefully keeping people in bondage for the sake of the economy? Also, how do the slaves not rebel against her when she refuses to free them all for the sake of the economy? And how does she force the slave masters to give up their slaves when the time finally comes?
Ok, but now let's pretend Sansa indeed had a perfect plan to end that was so much better than Dany. Where is the evidence in the books that Sansa would do a better job than Dany? Where are the book quotes that show Sansa's understanding of economics, "pacific" (?) military tactics, how to end slavery…? And remember, if Sansa was in Dany's place she wouldn't have a formal education and wouldn't have Littlefinger's training.
Let's face it: Sansa stans just want to criticize Dany for whatever reason and to claim that their fave is better, without even thinking if their fave would have done things better or what she would have done, or if there's even evidence that Sansa would be better than Dany. And the same goes for show!Sansa by the way. I see Sansa stans talk about how "if Sansa went to Dragonstone instead of Jon, she would put Dany in her place" (because obviously, Sansa is sooooo much smarter), and yet I haven't seen anyone explain what would be Sansa's plan to "put Dany in her place" and defeat the army of the dead without Dany's help, or how would Sansa manage to get Dany's help without bending the knee and at the same time disrespecting Dany (since they want Sansa to "put Dany in her place"). This political genius Sansa really only exists in their minds, and they aren't even smart enough to come up with actual concrete plans on what Sansa could have done that is better than Dany.

Mall is Life | INTRO : She’s Broke, He’s Broke, We’re All Broke!
Tumblr media
Summary: Your dad thinks it’s best for you to pay off the credit card that you just maxed out. Meaning, it’s time for you to finally get your very first job…at the mall. As a true blue spoiled daughter from a very rich family, what could possibly happen? Form a labour union and overthrow the oppressive government with 7 other underpaid and overworked guys??? Or maybe just form a bond with them and have the best time of your life?
Pairing: bts x reader
Genre: mall!au, lowkey a sitcom, fluff, eventual angst, and a whole lot of pure crack
Word count: 5.3k+
Notes: As I’m doing final rewrites for this, I overheard my co-teacher call one of our students a “crack” and I honestly have never related hard to a student. Anyways, transferring this from gdocs to tumblr took sooooo long. I literally aged 10 years. I didn’t think writing in this style would be such a pain so I really do hope you enjoy this! Keep safe and hang on while the world still seems like it’s on its way to destruction.

Red
Red is all you see.
Your vision has been clouded by the colour red since the moment you stepped inside the mall.
Sale season is upon you and red tags are everywhere!
Buy one get one for a girlfriend sized “boyfriend t-shirt”, a free cookie if you get 7 drinks, 5% off on your next purchase from Kucci and… Gasp! 75% off for a light sabre handheld immersion blender???
Do you even cook or watch Star Trek or whatever it’s called? Heck no.
bUT IT’S MORE THAN HALF OFF and it looks cool so might as well get it.
Right?
You saunter off towards the sights of free or marked down signs to start making damages.
“Ehem.”
The sound of your best friend, Taehyung’s voice, freezes you in place and you feel like a kid caught in the act of stealing a candy.
Literally, you have both your hands in front of you with your mouth open and watering.
“Just what do you think you’re doing?” His hands are placed on his hips, like a slightly inconvenienced Karen.
“Oh, uh...I was just, you know!? About to admire the general splendour!”
He was like, ya right sweetie.
“Shut up. This isn’t a Jane Austen book.”
Well, one can dream.
And lowkey, you were kinda expecting him to not get the reference.
…or even understand what you just said.
Damn.
You really need to give Taehyung some credit.
He is after all, your best friend and that is an achievement in itself.
“Focus, y/n. FOCUS. We’re here on a mission, don’t get distracted.”
Ugh, right.
Reality hit you again like a ton of bricks.
“And as if you can afford anything! Unless, you’re in for some service water.”
You scoff hard.
Though he isn’t lying.
See, the thing is, your family is rich.
Like rich 𝑹𝑰𝑪𝑯.
Like “rent a whole stadium for your dad’s morning run” rich
You, alone, though?
ʰᵉ ʰᵉ ʰᵉ
“Sorry, you’re absolutely right. We’re here for one thing only and that is to find a job! We’re not leaving until we get one.”
And that’s what you did for the next two hours
Job hunting
You might be wondering, “If we're so rich then why are we looking for a job?”
Well kids, let me tell you a quick story.
Here’s what happened
A week ago, you had probably the most embarrassing yet most eye opening experience of your life.
You were shopping
(like duh do you have anything else to do?)
And your credit card got…
Wait for it…
…………….
🚫DECLINED🚫
◉.◉
Like, that can happen????
Next thing you know, you’re on the phone with your dad and he is MAD
You don’t even know why he is so pressed about it.
Okay, so you maxed out one of his seemingly endless supply of credit cards.
BIG DEAL.
It’s not like he lost a bunch of money.
Maybe to a normal person, yeah…
BUT to you guys?
Come on! He can earn that money back in like two days.
Besides, he always goes on saying that he'd willingly give everything for you, his one and only princess.
bUT NOoOOoo! He has to teach you to be rEsPoNsIbLe with money! You need to be a 𝒔𝒆𝒏𝒔𝒊𝒃𝒍𝒆 𝒑𝒆𝒓𝒔𝒐𝒏.
"What? You think I'm a money making machine here?"
Well, tbh he kinda is.
"You think money grows on trees?"
Well, technically, money is paper so...ya it kinda does.
"I don't slave around just so you could plunge yourself in all of your whims!"
Uh, actually.
You kinda do though if we refer back to your whole willingly-give-everything-to-you shtick.
So that wasn't real, huh?
ALL MEN DO IS LIE.
smh
Taehyung, on the other hand...
Well, his mother’s old but rich sugar daddy just recently passed away and unfortunately all his money and prized possessions were inherited by his one and only beloved son.
All they got was a couple of stupid jewelry, which did allow them to pay for a new (less glamorous) apartment, but still
Eh.
What a complete disappointment.
11+ years of being a sugar baby, all for nothing.
So now it’s back to the slums for the both of them.
Sad reacs for a fallen warrior.
I’m talking about Tae’s mother, not the sugar daddy...
THOUGh rip for him. Uh,,,,
He’ll be missed? I guess???
(1 like of this post = 1 respect for him)
DW about his mother though. She doesn’t seem quite fazed by it.
“This is why if you find a rich old bastard, make sure he doesn’t have any kids. That or have an affair with their kid. Oh well, on to the next one.” She told you and Tae during the funeral.
It’s been three months since.
She’s currently working at a hair salon and also,,,,
Taehyung thinks she’s seeing someone again cause she’s been using her designated “𝑠𝑒𝑑𝑢𝑐𝑖𝑛𝑔” parfum.
WHICH you still don’t know if you should be impressed or be concerned about.
Nonetheless, you respect the hustle of this woman. ✊✊✊✊
Unfortunately, her efforts are still not enough to satisfy their expensive needs so that brings us to the present situation.
Actually, it couldn’t have been more perfect though!
You and your best friend coincidentally just happen to be in the same dilemma.
Kind of
Well, not really
Plus, it’s not really the most pleasant circumstance bUT STILL
The point is, you’re in this together and that’s enough for the both of you.
:’)
“Ugh, this totally blows.” Taehyung says as you both sit on one of the food court booths.
“Which one, us not getting any jobs yet or the fact that we’re hanging at the food court?”
“Get used to it, princess. Honestly, you'll find that the food here isn't as disgusting as you think they are." He says as he fishes for his phone in his man purse.
"Well, at this rate, I won't be able to get used to it since I sTILL haven't found a job. Why are the good stores so demanding? Like, an intensive classroom and in-store training only to have a possibility to get hired??? To think that I'm a loyal Louie Button customer!"
(A/n: This is actually a real procedure for Louis Vuitton, at least in my own experience. But I only applied and never went through with the training cause I figured that it just ain't for me.)
You continue ranting your little heart out about how you could sue these stores for unfair treatment.
Taehyung, though, has long tuned you out and has pointed his full attention to his phone.
This is turning out to be a lot more disastrous than what he anticipated.
So he needs to phone a friend in.
Orrrrr a couple.
He's getting desperate, okay??
The entire spring collection was practically screaming out to him when they entered Kucci.
He's a 𝓚𝓾𝓬𝓬𝓲 𝓫𝓸𝔂 through and through.
He hasn't missed a single Kucci season collection in years.
IN YEARS, PEOPLE!
He can feel his right eye twitch at this blasphemy.
"I'm telling you! These stores are absolutely ungrateful-hEY! Are you even listening??"
"No. I thought that was obvious the second I whipped my phone out."
( ͠° ͟ʖ ͡°)
Rude
He didn't even try to deny it.
"You know, I really don't need you to be mean to me right now."
"Sorry y/n but this…" He lifts his phone up, "is more important right now."
What could possibly be more important than your current problem??
If you don't leave today with any form of productivity, you just might have to sell the entirety of your closet.
And we all know that ain't happening.
"By 'that', you mean?"
His phone vibrates a couple of times, indicating that he just received a bunch of messages.
He instantly opens them, disregarding you once again.
I-
Seriously, thIS bOy!
"Hello???? I'm still here and we're still hideously unemployed!"
He looks up to you with a smile that seems a tad bit too eerie.
Okay, this is somewhat alarming ngl.
"I called in some reinforcements."
Reinforcements... Huh?
What's that supposed to mean?
You stare at him with scrunched brows and mouth slightly agape.
And as if on cue, a male voice rings from behind you.
"Tae! We're here!"
"Jimin! Seokjin hyung!"
Ohhhhhhh
*Looks at the camera*
Them.
♫︎DUN DUN DUN♫︎
For everyone's information, Taehyung grew up a hair away from the poverty line.
He was in his preteen years when their family found success through his mother's sugar daddy.
He didn't grow up rich whICH there's NOthing wrong WiTh THAT.
A person's financial status does not define them.
Taehyung's friends, however, already have a collective definition in your head.
One word
༼ つ ◕◡◕ ༽つ MESS™
♫︎DUN DUN DUN♫︎
A hot mess you are so not willing to become a part of.
Tae keeps them away from you because he knows that they are not the type of people you would associate yourself with.
Which is why you've never met any of them.
...Until today.
♫︎DUN DUN DUN♫︎
Guess being besties with a broke Taehyung means it only makes sense that you finally meet them.
♫︎dUN dUn- ok that's enough of that.
"We got the Code 17 message. I can't believe I'll ever get that from you. This is history, man! We need to celebrate!" Someone says accompanied by what sounds like someone wiping a window.
You look at Taehyung with a very displeased look.
May god and every higher being out there give you strength.
He doesn't even look the slightest bit bothered by what might be one of the boldest crossovers to ever happen.
Also, "Code 17"??? Wth?
"What's wrong? You never ask to meet at the food court… And who's this with--oh." A different, softer voice talks this time.
"You guys remember my bestie, right? Y/n? Well, I think it's time you guys finally meet."
From behind you, Seokjin and Jimin share a slightly wary yet excited look.
Jimin, being the natural people lover that he is, instantly thinks that he's about to have another best friend.
From what he's heard from Taehyung, you two are slightly alike, being a total softie.
So don't be surprised if a montage of things like the two of you going on picnics at the mall garden or watching the premiere of the next Disney movie plays in his head.
Seokjin, on the other hand, being the woman lover that he is, instantly thinks that he's about to score big time.
He's heard a lot about you from Tae but the only thing that stuck (and pretty much the only thing that matters) is that you are HELLA rich.
$ ℂ𝕙𝕒𝕔𝕙𝕚𝕟𝕘 𝕓𝕒𝕓𝕪 $
So are we even surprised that what he imagines is him breezing through the luxury section of the mall, with his personal butlers in tow, and having everyone swoon at him?
“Y/n,” Taehyung gives you a pointed look as if telling you to be nice. “Meet Seokjin hyung and Jimin, two of my other best friends.”
Alright, you heard that these people work here at the mall.
So you’re gonna have to suck it up if it means being stuck with them for god knows how long.
You just hope they have some level of bearableness.
(Oh and some form of acceptable fashion taste too please, thank you very much!)
As much as you're not in the mood to smile, you still plaster on the sweetest one you can muster and turn around to face the two----
Oh
(o.O)
oh oh oh oh ho ho ho ho
Hello
hELLO indeed.
One of them has a white button up with the sleeves rolled up to his elbows, black slim fit trousers, and a brown newsboy cap like a cherry on top.
He's also wearing a brown apron with a small name tag that says 𝓙𝓲𝓶𝓲𝓷.
The other guy's more casual with his baby pink t-shirt, french tucked into his black ripped skinny jeans.
Personally, you wouldn’t really call them amazing outfits…
bUT SWEET BABY JESUS ARE THEY DOING THINGS.
GREAT THINGS
(Tbh maybe it’s their handsome faces that do it for you)
"Hi, I'm Jimin! It's very nice to finally meet you."
He extends his hand and you take it in a heartbeat because my god that smile.
Wooooooooooo
Now, that's what greets you into heaven.
"Tae says a lot of good things about you and I think- oof."
Cute pink shirt guy (rudely) shoves him to the side.
Jimin almost topples to the ground and it makes you want to stand and check up on him.
The poor cutie.
For some reason, you feel like Taehyung and pink shirt guy get along well.
"AND I'M Seokjin!"
This time, Seokjin swiftly takes your hand without any warning which leaves you feeling flustered.
“Umm… Nice to meet you..?” You manage to politely croak out.
He gives your hand a kiss and then drops you a sultry wink.
Thank god you're sitting right now.
You'd be a lying fool to say that that didn't make your knees weak.
But ngl, that’s a face that definitely greets you into hell.
Like, no offense to his handsome face but you are sure there’s something completely devious going on underneath.
No one can change your mind on that.
"OKAY! Enough introductions, we’ll have plenty of time for that later... Where are the others??”
“Hoseok hyung said that he's with Jungkook and they're on their way to get Namjoon hyung." Jimin says as he fixes his hat that slightly slid off.
"Well, they better hurry!"
Taehyung DEFINITELY did not have any reasons to cut your introductions off.
He just did not like how you are practically drooling over Jimin and Seokjin.
He’s nOT JEALOUS OR ANYTHING
It’s just...
It’s not like you’ve never been close to any hot guys before.
Uh hello???
HE’S HOT
And you’re with him 24/7
Wait…
Do you even think he’s hot???
Okay now that’s a thought he never considered before.
Damn bro
Now Tae’s having an existential crisis…
anD hE’s dEfiniTEly NOT jEALous!!!
ᕙ(⇀‸↼‶)ᕗ
"WE'RE HERE!"
All four of you direct your heads to the sound of a new voice and you start to think that Taehyung might actually be playing a joke on you.
Come on!
THREE 👏  MORE 👏  HOT 👏 GUYS  👏
???
This can't be real.
This is literal heaven!
Gasp!
Are.
You.
DEAD?!
Maybe you're right about Jimin being what greets you into heaven!
It all makes sense.
“Dude, we came as soon as we could. We even pulled Namjoon out of his rabbit hole.” The handsome one wearing a sports jersey says.
“This better be important. I didn’t even get to ask permission to take a break! I’m supposed to be stocking utensils right now.” The handsome one wearing an atrocious outfit of a bright blue shirt and a much brighter yellow pants chimes in.
The handsome one wearing loose fitting jeans, a plaid button up and a black t-shirt underneath just stayed at the sidelines not saying anything.
Out of all of them, you think he’s the most stylish one.
Your eyes meet while you are assessing his outfit but he instantly looks away.
A noticeable blush blooms on his cheeks and you almost swoon.
Awww he’s extra cute.
“Yeah, cause organising cutlery is more important than a friend in a literal crisis.” Taehyung says in a sarcastic tone.
“So what are we doing here?”
“What is this ‘crisis’ you are referring to?”
“Yo, who is she?”
Namjoon, Jin, and handsome jersey boy all talk at the same time.
Ugh you need a massage.
Being surrounded by these broke handsome men is making you lightheaded.
“This is Y/n. You know, my other best friend.”
“Oh, your money buddy.” Handsome jersey boy butts in.
Uh EXCUSE YOU, WHAT’S THAT SUPPOSED TO MEAN?
You scoff hard and loud.
Taehyung clears his throat and you thought he was going to make a comment defending you or something.
Oh honey, you are wrong.
Because for the nth time today, he just brushes you off.
“Yeah, yeah. Whatever. Anyways, Guys, meet Y/n. Y/n, this is Hoseok hyung, Namjoon hyung, and Jungkook.”
You didn't think it'd be possible but for the first time ever, you so badly want to rip someone's hair out.
And not just someone, it's Taehyung.
Normally, a sassy, moody, rude boy Taehyung doesn’t affect you at all.
But then again, his negative vibes were never really directed to you.
And given the current circumstance, you’re also not in the best mood as well.
So you aren't as inviting as you usually are when you shook hands with the three boys.
Somehow, even their overflowing handsomeness did not do anything for you now.
Your presence, however, did something to the three boys.
AND I MEAN A LOT.
Confused, attracted, intimidated, confused, in awe, slightly scared, nervous, confused, hungry…
What? Hoseok hasn’t had lunch and coincidentally, he started feeling his tummy rumble when he looked at you.
…..
Fun fact: Hoseok is DEFINITELY NOT A CANNIBAL NOR HE EVER PLANS ON BEING ONE.
If ever you were thinking...
“Okay, so here’s the sitch.” Tae starts to explain your situation and everyone listens to him intently.
Little did you all know, the final member of the friend group just arrived at the food court and is now walking towards where you all are.
It wasn’t difficult to spot your group with Namjoon’s obnoxiously brightly coloured towering self and the few girls hanging around.
Probably Jimin’s fanclub.
“And so, here we are!” Tae finishes, keeping everyone updated.
"Wow, so you two are looking for an actual job? Like, here? At the mall??" A very baffled Seokjin asks.
Tae rolls his eyes.
"Yes. Is that really hard to believe?"
"Actually, yes. It is."
Another male voice is heard coming from someplace.
“Yoongi hyung!”
Oh great! Another one.
Surely, this guy’s not that interesting.
I mean, what are the fricking odds that he’s also an immaculate being??
You turn around and your mouth drops to the floor.
No no no no no.
No way!
Another freaking gOOD LOOKING GUY HAS WALKED UP TO YOUR GROUP.
Okay, this is getting unbelievable now.
Is this the real life? Is this just fantasy?
Like, where and how on earth did Taehyung manage to get and round up SIX insanely good looking guys??
What is this? Are you on The Bachelorette??
Wait no
It's like Oprah!
And instead of cars, she's giving away handsome men
You get a hot Asian man, you get a hot Asian man, you all get a hot Asian man!
OR MAYBE
Are you on MTV Punk'd?????
Statistically speaking, a hot guy can have two or maybe three equally hot best friends
BUT SIX???
ARE YOU KIDDING?
Is Taehyung like Thanos? Collecting the six infinity stones?
Thanos? lol.
If anything, he's more like Henry VIII with his six wives.
“So you guys didn’t even wait for me, huh?”
Yoongi, oh so casually, just takes a seat beside you
Without even giving you a single glance or whatnot.
“I didn’t know you'd be here at the mall today?”
“Yeah, what are you doing here?”
Yoongi raises an eyebrow. “It’s a free country, I can be here whenever I want to be.”
Well, can’t argue with that logic.
The mall is practically your second home at this point.
“... Also… uTunes is hiring and uh… I’m applying...”
You don’t understand why but everyone else looks either shocked or annoyed at Yoongi’s announcement...
Are you missing something here?
“Man, you need to give it up! That place can suck it.”
Yoongi gives Seokjin one of the scariest glare you’ve ever seen.
It could rival against your dad’s famous death glares that he gives to his incompetent subordinates.
Namjoon shakes his head disapprovingly, “You’re applying there again?? I can’t believe it.”
Yes, again.
This is going to be the seventh time he’s applying at uTunes Records, the most popular music shop there is.
So many people flock to it even though we’re already in the digital age.
But he doesn’t question it.
All he cares about is getting a job there because the employees get to play their own music in the store.
Do you know how much of a popularity boost that is?
A CRAP TON.
On top of that, one of the employees gets a chance to get signed by a record label every year.
And if you're not awarded by that chance, you can still meet agents and get signed through their many parties.
Because of that, so many people also apply for a job there.
But they unfortunately have such high standards which is why even after three years, he still hasn’t passed their vibe check.
"Listen, seven's a lucky number. I have great feelings about this one. Besides, I've built up a strong résumé. Winning one of uTunes' own rookie dj contests must mean something, right? They can't not take me!"
Wow.
You've only known Yoongi for a solid three minutes, but you can already tell that he's quite passionate about this.
"Hyung, all we're saying is that maybe you should consider doing something else? You could do so much more than run after that store." Jimin says and pats Yoongi's hand a couple of times.
"All of you perfectly know getting a job there could quite possibly set my music career!"
"Is that really it? Or is it because of a certain Daphne??" Seokjin teases him.
The rest just mutters an "ooh" or an "aah".
You seem to have been turned into an accessory.
You so cannot relate to anything they've talked about since Yoongi came.
It's like you're at one of your dad's social gatherings and all you can do is smile and nod.
"ANYWAY," Yoongi interjects in their teasing. "So Tae, you're also looking for a job?"
Jeez FINALLY.
Something you can talk about that involves you.
It felt like you were just back home watching some random show that doesn't require your input.
Taehyung gives an overly dramatic heavy sigh.
"Unfortunately, yes. Y/n and I both need one badly. But all the stores had been rejecting us left and right. Like, the audacity!" Taehyung rants all over again.
Jimin, listens to him intently as if he hasn't heard all of this before.
Seokjin seems to have been entertaining the surrounding ladies for a while now.
[by giving some ( ˘ ³˘)♥︎ and some (•̀ᴗ-)☞  ]
Across the table, Namjoon complains to Hoseok about getting in trouble with his boss.
Jungkook, well, he's just staring at the beautiful pizza this kid next to you guys is eating. (Someone's hungry too, okay?)
While Yoongi just openly stares at you.
Welp.
What the frick are you supposed to do now?
Is Taehyung or anyone going to properly introduce you two?
No???
Okay fine.
Seems like you're gonna have to get used to doing things on your own.
You smile at him and timidly hold your hand out.
"Uh hi. I'm Y/n. I don't know if Tae's ever mentioned me to you before but--"
"Oh, trust me. He's mentioned you plenty. He actually never shuts up about you."
ʰᵉʰ
Ok
You don't really know if he was stating that as a fact or if he's trying to be mean…
"Oh ha ha… That must be really annoying then."
"Yeah, it is actually."
Your small polite chuckle died down your throat.
Wow and you thought Taehyung can be rude.
hE'S STILL JUST STARING.
"Uh…" You finally lowered your hand that he obviously isn't going to shake.
That is definitely going in your top 10 most embarrassing moments ever.
God, can someone get you away from this guy?
What's his problem?
"SO, can any one of you help us? Like, any tips or something?" Tae concludes his really long and repetitive rant.
Everyone's eyes FINALLY focuses on Tae again.
Seokjin snorts loudly.
Eww.
He opens his mouth to say something but Tae immediately holds his hand up to stop him.
"Anyone except you hyung. I don't think you're classified."
Everyone laughs to that and again,
ARE YOU MISSING OUT ON SOMETHING HERE?
Seokjin raises one finger like he's trying to make a point. "If anyone is classified to give tips on how to get accepted, it's me!"
"Yeah, just not on how to last on one." Namjoon loudly whispers to Tae.
"HEY I HEARD THAT!"
Ohhh….
So,
Does he constantly get fired from a job?
Well, that's just sad.
Hopefully you don't end up like him.
😳
"Actually," Hoseok starts, "how do you end up landing on so many jobs? Like, don't they know your reputation?"
And that's your cue to finally insert yourself in the conversation.
"Uh, what reputation?"
"Sweetheart, you don't really want to know! It's not that big of a deal." Seokjin quickly steers you away from the topic but the other guys didn't allow it to happen.
"Oh, you know. Just that, he's known to be the "job eater" here. Cause he pretty much eats a job and moves on from it in a flash." Namjoon graciously fills you in.
So you were right.
That's kind of impressive though…
But a huge waste.
"Still! It makes me very much qualified to give the unemployed a tip!"
"Save it hyung, you might need it for your next job once you get fired from Uncle Aang's."
Seokjin gives everyone a sheepish smile.
What's that about?
It almost looks as if he…
"YOU GOT FIRED ALREADY?!"
"Oh you bet I did."
To be fair, how could he not stop himself from eating the free samples? Those pretzels are literal drugs.
"You just got that job four days ago. I can't believe it!"
"I can believe it." Yoongi says out loud.
Can't he say anything nice?
"Whatever! Point is, these stores still hire me no matter what."
"You know what, that is a good point." Taehyung mutters, slowly turning convinced by Seokjin.
Namjoon groans. "Are you for real Tae? If you want some job advice, maybe ask one from us who has only had one permanent job all throughout."
"Guys, let's give Seokjin hyung a chance!" Jimin, ever the sweet positive boy, suggests.
"Of course you would say that."
Not wanting to fade into nothingness, you insert yourself again in the conversation.
"I want to hear what he has to say."
Once those words left your mouth, you instantly regret it.
A.) Seokjin gives you another wink and gives you a flying kiss that has you weak in the knees again- I MEAN WHAT. I SAID NOTHING.
And B.) Yoongi is clearly not a fan of you sharing your opinions with the group.
Despite the obvious protests of Namjoon, Seokjin still gives his number one "professional" advice
And that is to have a perfectly 𝒉𝒊𝒈𝒉 𝒒𝒖𝒂𝒍𝒊𝒕𝒚 résumé.
"A high quality résumé? YOU? What the fuck are you talking about?" Yoongi says, slightly amused and slightly tired of the older guy's shenanigans.
"Don't believe me? Fine. But I'm telling you, it's all here on paper!" Seokjin takes out a folder from his backpack and waves it around.
Namjoon immediately snatches it from him
"5 pages long?? Are you for real?”
Seokjin hums and watches smugly with a cocky grin as the guys read through his résumé.
“Hang on, since when did you do balloon modelling?”
"I don't."
Hoseok gasps. "But bro, isn't that lying?"
"Yeah, duh! How else are these people gonna hire you? You have to sell them what they're looking for."
"What if they ask you to use these skills that you clearly don't have?"
"Then you're just gonna have to fake it till you make it, baby!"
Huh
No wonder he doesn't last long on a single job.
"And how's that working out for you?" Yoongi presses on.
"Well at least I get hired, Mr. 7th Time's the Charm!"
Yoongi is like ᶠⁱᵗᵉ ᵐᵉ ⁱ ʷᵒⁿ'ᵗ ʰᵉˢⁱᵗᵃᵗᵉ ᵇⁱᵗᶜʰ (ง'̀-'́)ง
"That's not really the point of having a job, but I guess, whatever floats your boat, dude!" Hoseok finally sides with Seokjin.
"So everyone is looking for a job then?" Taehyung realizes, "this is so cool if all of us get hired! We'll all face the real world together."
"All of us except Jungkook though."
Who?
Oh that extra cute shy boy.
You forgot he's here.
Boy really hasn't said a word at all.
"Did ya hear that? All of us are getting jobs!"
"You should get one too!"
"That would be so cool!"
"So what do you say? What are your plans Kook?"
"Guys, don't pressure the kid!"
The guys talk simultaneously, ultimately kind of pressuring Jungkook to say something before he even thinks about it.
The table falls silent and everyone eyes Jungkook.
The guys are like ( ・ิ ͜ʖ ・ิ) and ( ͠° ͟ʖ ͡°)
Jungkook is like (ʘ ͟ʖ ʘ)
Then the guys are like (≖ ͜ʖ≖)
So jungkook is like (¬‿¬ )
In the end, they are all like
(☞°ヮ°)☞ ☜(°ヮ°☜)
And through it all, you are just ʕ•ᴥ•ʔ
What the heck is going on?
"Yeah, why not?" Jungkook simply concludes and the guys make various celebrating noises.
Gasp!
He can talk???
"Okay, everyone calm down! Let's wait until after everyone gets hired before we celebrate." Namjoon scolds everyone.
"Well that might take a while considering Y/n and I can't find one!"
Namjoon places a comforting hand on Tae's shoulder. "Oh relax, there's like ten thousand stores in the mall!"
"Actually, there are only 613 stores in the entire mall." Hoseok points out a matter of factly.
You all look at him dumbfoundedly.
Aaaand he just stares back at all of you.
Is this some kind of trivia that you need to know if you work around here?
Are you gonna have to memorise a lot of facts about the mall???
Oh, you don't like that.
Seokjin was the first one to react.
"Dude?? What the hell?!"
"I got bored once while I was on a break and counted."
Huh.
Makes sense.
Yeah, sure.
Why not?
Why wouldn't you just go and count the total number of stores out of boredom???
…
THAT WAS A SARCASTIC REMARK IF YOU DIDN'T GET IT.
"Even if there are 600 stores here, there are only like, 20 good stores that exist!" Tae remarks
You want to say you can't agree more but you stop yourself because you don't think you can handle another cold stare from Yoongi.
"Are you perhaps pertaining to the high end stores?" Namjoon muses.
"Yeah. What else?"
Jimin's eyes widen in shock. "Hold on. So you two have only been looking at that small section of the entire mall?"
"Yeah. Why?"
Yoongi chuckles condescendingly.
"Bros, you know that saying… 'Beggars can't be choosers'?" Hoseok tries to enlighten you two.
You and Tae look at each other.
What an epiphany.
A very disgusting yet important epiphany.
"Are you… Are you guys saying that… We need to find a job… Outside of that section??"
They all nod.
Ughhhhhhh
You and Tae make an annoyed sound.
"Welcome to the real world, peasants!" Seokjin warmly tells you.
Could things get any worse?
"Hey, at least we'll all be here together!"
Ha ha
Great . Awesome. Wow.
"Well, on that note, I really need to get back to work. Lady and gentlemen, may the odds be ever in your favour. Good luck!"
Namjoon stands and walks away.
One by one, the other working guys went back to work as well, leaving you unemployed slackers.
Hey they didn't even give any actual help!
Wasn't that the reason why Tae called for a… What did they call it?
Code something something.
Oh whatever!
Anyways,
So to summarize things
You might end up working at an awful low end store.
And you're unwillingly stuck with the wrong set of people.
One of them is a total flirt and an actual pain to society.
Another one might possibly hate you for unknown reasons.
This tall dude seems to be really uptight.
Then there's this guy that seems really weird.
The other one, well… He's cute and doesn't really have any negative points yet BUT you're sure something's wrong with him.
And the last one literally said one thing during the entire time!
Oh, you've got a really really long way before you can pay your dad.
Good luck to you, indeed.

---------------------------------------------------------------
1: The Valley Isle
“What makes Hawaiian shaved ice Hawaiian? Isn’t it just ice and syrup?”
“Well, every morning we go out and collect water from the waterfall in our backyard, and then we freeze it into ice cubes shaped like the islands, and then we shave each one special into our various menu sizes.”
“Really?!”
“No. Your total is $5.47.”
Koa looked up from the syrup station, reaching over and smacking Kahua’s arm.
“Dude. Do you want to get fired?” She kept her voice low so it didn’t travel past the window.
He just laughed and grabbed the banana syrup, finishing off the mound of ice and sticking a spoon in the side before passing it out the window to the woman who’d asked the question.
“Yes. My master plan is to get in trouble, blame it on you, get it put on your permanent record so you lose all your future jobs and have to stay here with me forever.”
“You act like you aren’t going to also be in LA in literally three months.”
“And you act like you aren’t leaving me here on this rock, alone, for three months,” Kahua countered, turning to switch out the withering ice block from the machine.
Koa looked out over the rainbow of syrups, taking in the view.
Her and Kahua had been calling Maui a rock for years - since third grade, to be precise. She didn’t say it often, and especially not to any tourists who were coming to visit. To them, Maui was paradise. Tropical, perfect weather, perfect beaches. Koa could see it. She understood the allure. But when she thought of her paradise, it came in the shape of a bustling city, of opportunities and new faces and places.
LA.
Kahua called it the haole’s dream. The white girl’s dream. Didn’t matter how many times he complained about being on the same island his whole life, he never really wanted to leave it. The fact that Koa wanted to was seen as borderline criminal by half her ohana, but she pushed their comments and insults aside.
There were only two opinions that she really cared about anyways.
First was Nahele; her older brother. She didn’t have to ask him what he thought - he’d moved to Texas as soon as he could, started up a food truck in Austin, named it 808 GRINDZ and brought every hawaiian cooking method he knew along with him. He’d been making a life for himself ever since then, and he was ecstatic when Koa told him she was moving. The thought of having family on the mainland, even halfway across the country, was comforting enough.
But the most important one? That was Amosa.
Amosa, who called her when he knew she’d be walking to her car after she clocked out.
“Hi Dad.”
“Kaikamahine, my girl. How was your shift?”
“Busy, but it was fine. They gave me a card for a free small everyday that you can have, but you gotta get the sugar free syrup when you use it.”
“Yeah yeah,” he laughed. Even over the phone, Koa could hear the waves in the background, and she knew where he was before he said it. “Come to the dock.”
“Did you book another tour?” She couldn’t keep the excitement out of her voice.
“Come to the dock,” he said, his quiet way of saying no. “I’ll see you soon. Aloha wau iā 'oe.”
“Love you too.”
The drive to the boat dock was short, and the parking lot was busy as ever. Koa passed the bigger boats, with their names in fancy script screen printed on the side. Their buoys and extra snorkel gear, the bars nestled in the middle of the deck, an extra incentive for the tourists to book with them. Everyone loves a mai tai after all.
The Honu Nai sat at her spot on the dock, the farthest to the left. She had three years on any other snorkel boat out there. Her bow was worn, paint sanded off by the salt and sun over time and travel through the waves. But the little drawing of the smiling turtle still shone through on the side, despite the fact that Koa had painted it almost 10 years ago.
Over the edge, Koa could see her father. He was cleaning, like usual, organizing all of the extra gear that he had on the boat. The kids section was scarce again, all the smaller sized wetsuits, snorkels and fins barely taking up a rack. Koa knew why - if there was ever a kid on his snorkel tour who couldn’t afford their own gear, he’d ‘lend’ it to them. Every kid deserves to see the underwater world, he would say. It changes you, shows you what life is really about.
Koa had been in the ocean since before she could walk. If she wasn’t where she was supposed to be, she was one of two places; either diving under a wave somewhere, or writing in her notebook. Or, one of her notebooks at least.
“No book today?” He asked when she jumped aboard.
“Already packed them up.”
Amosa couldn’t think about the suitcases in her room without the tears starting to form. He blinked them away and looked out to the sea of blue.
“Did you pack your snorkel gear?”
“Dad. You know I’m not going to see shit in the ocean in California,” she sighed, moving over to him and putting an arm around him.
“I know, I know. They have sea lions I’ve heard. Maybe they’ll be friendly.”
“I’ve heard they stink.” She laid her head on his shoulder gently, closing her eyes when he kissed her head.
“Well. We have 5 hours until you have to get to the airport, and I say that’s just enough time for one more run, hmmm?”
Koa didn’t want to. She couldn’t think of many things worse than having salt all over her skin for a 6 hour plane ride. But the excitement in his eyes was irresistible, so she simply nodded and offered him a smile, letting go so he could get them on their way out to the reef.
She sat on the bow as they headed out to sea, closed her eyes and soaked in the spray off the waves. Her dad laughed when they hit a particularly big one, cutting through the crest so much that it splashed up onto the deck. He used to do it on purpose when she was a little girl just to hear her giggle and have her running back to him.
They made it to their favorite place quickly, and Koa didn’t hesitate to put her mask on and get to work. She took the line and dove over the side, tying it to the anchor hook under the water before coming back up. Amosa dropped the ladder for her on the back, but she didn’t need it. She was watching the reef.
Moorish Idols. That’s what she wanted to see. They were second only to green sea turtles - honu in Hawaiian. But they were the most beautiful fish, with their delicate top fin that tapered off to a tail. She was always excited to find one and show the kids on tours. All she had to say was look for Gill from Finding Nemo and they were able to spot them. She floated for a while, watching the fish dart around, even spotting a small reef shark about 15 yards to the right before she decided to climb back in to see her dad.
He passed her a towel and smiled at her as she sat down. All he could do was look at her for a moment, taking her in. His baby girl, on the boat she’d practically grown up in for the last time in a while.
He put on his brave face, and forced his biggest smile. “You ready to go out there?”
Koa sighed.
“I don’t know how to tell.”
“You’ll do great. You’re capable, and it won’t be long until you’re writing your own books instead of writing for these… whatever boys.”
“Dolan. Their names are Ethan and Grayson Dolan.”
“Well, like I said. Soon it’ll be your stories out there instead of someone else’s, with your name instead of theirs.” He said it with such certainty that she couldn’t help but believe him. Maybe it was the salt water left over in her eyes, or the glare of the sun off the ocean, but she began to tear up.
“Thanks for always supporting me dad. It means the world. I’m sorry I have to go so far away, I wish I could stay.” It was true - she just needed the money from the Dolan’s to get herself started, and then she’d come back, help her father.
Amosa smiled.
“Kaikamahine, it’s just an ocean between us.” He reached out for her cheek. “And we know the ocean, don’t we.”
“She’s an old friend,” Koa said, her heart tight in her chest.
“Exactly. Now c’mon, let’s get you home and on your way.”
Across the ocean and 3 hour time change, Grayson Dolan was pacing.
“It’s gonna be fine.” Ethan said.
“Shut the fuck up Ethan,” Grayson said.
That was the extent of most of their conversations over the last three days. Actually, that’s how all of them had been since Ethan had signed a deal with their agent for a ghostwritten book about their lives.
“It’ll get more people connected to us, the right people-”
“Has it ever fucking occurred to you that I’m tired of that shit? That I’m tired of people prying into my fucking life? What if I don’t wanna connect with anyone else, what if I just wanna be left the fuck alone? But no, now we’re gonna have some fucking stranger asking us a million fucking questions and digging for information in my own fucking house where I just wanna exist.”
Ethan didn’t have an answer for that. He’d fucked up, and he knew it. But he also knew that he signed a contract, and there was no backing out of it now. Grayson rubbed his hand over his eyes.
“When does the writer get here?”
“She flies in tonight.”
“Fucking fantasic. Can’t wait.”
With that, Grayson walked back to his room, leaving his twin alone in the living room with his hands in his pockets.

Okay kids, buckle up. I need money again (for the last time, pray god), but at least this time I have a fucking story to go with it.
Short version: My landlord is illegally trying to evict me and I just had to drop $60 on court costs to fight it. That's $60 that was going to pay for either my meds or the electric bill, take your pick. So I really need donations to get by for the next two weeks, after which I should be settling in at a much more mentally healthy job and in good shape. My Paypal is [email protected] and my Ko-fi is here. Thank you so much for anything you can contribute!
Long version:
So the last three months I've been off work due to a mental health breakdown. July and August, I haven't been able to pay my rent. I applied for rent assistance right away in late June, and emailed my landlord's office all the paperwork for both the rent assistance and the CDC Declaration of eligibility for the Eviction Moratorium -- the thing where if you're poor enough you can't get evicted during the pandemic because you would have to go to a shelter or a crowded living situation and be at risk for the Covid.
Middle of July, I received a *backdated* notice that if I didn't provide proof of rent assistance application, I was going to be filed against for eviction. Okay, there's a new property manager, maybe the filing got mixed up, so I go down and re-email all the paperwork and make sure the property manager sees it arrive in the email.
Beginning of August, I get a notice from the rent assistance people that the CDC has extended the moratorium for places in a high surge status, which I am in one, so I fill out and forward the newest eviction protection form which should cover me till October 3, and go down to speak to the property manager about it, when again I am assured that everything is on file.
Middle of August, two months after filing my request for rent assistance, I finally hear from a caseworker who says "send me your paperwork". I jubilantly send all the paperwork, go down to give my property manager the good news, and also -- see, I don't have a lease for September yet. I was offered one back in July, but I didn't want to sign anything until I knew what my situation was going to be with regard to rent assistance and paydays. So I brought down the paper that said "yes I am signing here to officially agree to the new lease you offered, please print the new lease so I can sign it officially", and handed it to the property manager as well.
Now, I have about $700 of late fees for July and August. This is legal under the eviction moratorium and I have understood from the beginning that I would have to pay them. My first paycheck back to work comes in this Friday, and when I went to request the new lease I had planned to discuss a payment arrangement as well, figuring I could pay about $600 on Friday and the rest in two weeks, based on my projected paycheck.
("Taught myself payroll tax law in order to predict my paychecks" should definitely be on my resume somewhere. I just haven't figured out where.)
But, dear readers, when I went down to drop off the form, there was some other client or resident in the office, so I didn't get to discuss a payment arrangement. No big deal, I figured. I'd discuss it when I heard that my lease was ready to sign.
Instead, last Tuesday, I was woken up at nine sharp by a process server with an eviction summons for me. Thank fuck, I've spent the last two weeks having a technical issue at work that's kept me getting paid but off the phones, because I was in no state to talk to people that day. Eventually I pulled myself together, broke out the legalese close-reading skills, and discovered that the summons includes one particular line item which (I hope and pray) indicates They Done Fucked Up.
This summons, ladies and gentlethem, includes the line item "The Plaintiff has not received an executed copy of the Declaration form as of the date of this filing pursuant to the CDC Order dated September 1, 2020."
Well, gentle readers, I was and am *pissed off*. I keep providing documentation to these fuckers and they keep misplacing it, and now they're getting me involved with The Legal System. I *hate* being anywhere near the legal system. I have massive PTSD triggers from being raised by an evil ADA. But by god, I speak legalese as my first language, and I am not going down without a fight.
So, not being able to get in touch with anyone to provide legal aid or assistance, I spent last Thursday trundling around downtown in decaying shoes and 105° heat, getting court paperwork printed and duplicated and filed and mailed. I dropped about $60 I hadn't planned to spend on court filing fees and certified mail costs and the actual baseline printing costs of all the documentation I needed to provide.
I did get two pieces of good luck that day. One, I finally heard back from my case manager saying that the rent assistance money for my landlord only has to go through one more person who will double-check the numbers. It's supposed to get final approval sometime early this week.
Two, I got a job promotion I've been working toward for years. Well, side-motion, it doesn't come with a raise, but I already make $16+ an hour, over twice our federal minimum wage. What it does come with is, except in rare cases I never talk to callers, I just answer them in written messages. This should hopefully be a perfect job for me, and allow me to work a solid 40 hours a week and earn plenty of money.
The catch is... it's work-at-home only. If I get evicted and can't make it to training on Monday week, I'm fucked.
So. My eviction hearing is tomorrow. If and when the judge is like "okay if we let you sign a new 12-month lease and stay in your apartment, what is your repayment plan on your late fees", I plan to be like "Your Honor, I have a payday on Friday and I am prepared to provide the court a money order for the full $700 of late fees on that date which will bring me fully up to date".
I'll do it, too. The catch is, that'll leave me with something like $200 in the bank for the next two weeks, and I calculate I need about $100 for groceries, $80 for meds, $50 for electric, and $80 for the cell phone bill over that time period. These numbers don't add up. :P
Soooo, yeah. I'm having to spend about $160 I can't afford because my damn property manager is an idiot and can't fucking print and file my fucking legal declaration. I really hope the court throws the book at the corporation and nails them with those "up to $200,000 fines" for breaking the CDC moratorium, although I am dubious because courts like corporations much more than they like stout genderqueer individuals without legal representation, however white and erudite.
But mostly, I really hope I can stay in my apartment and also afford my meds for the next two weeks. My Paypal is [email protected] and my Ko-fi is here. If you can spare *anything*, even a dollar or three, it would help so much.
God, I'm so sick of having to beg for help every few weeks. I just really hope nothing else blows up in my face... :-(

Doodlewash April 2021 prompt 5: Buttercup
This is going to part of a Vigilante AU I’m creating. I will elaborate on world building and other plot points at a later date. Kinda like that pirate things from a few days ago.
BTW: Sally and Wilbur aren’t a thing and were never a thing in the canon of this world. But Sally is still Fundy’s mom.
--------------------------
The City was separated into 100 districts; the lower the district number, the poorer and the less likely heroes were to be casually patrolling the streets. And the more likely vigilantes would be about helping the people.
- - -
Tommy was born to loving parents in City District 93. Tommy’s parents worked in the mill, making books for schools that they couldn’t afford to send their son to – you know, the fancy ones; Tommy did still go to tax payer schooling.
When Tommy was eight his parents died in an explosion at the mill while he was at school. When Tommy was eight his parents landlord gave him a month to figure out lodging. When Tommy was eight the landlord let Tommy say in an unheated, unairconditioned apartment with no water and no running electricity until they found a new tenant. When Tommy was eight he moved out onto the street. When Tommy was eight he started stealing to survive. When Tommy was eight Ranboo and his parents quietly told the school board that Tommy had moved into their house even though the kid had declined the offer, because he wouldn’t be allowed to attend without guardians or a permanent address.
Tommy didn’t limit himself to District 93, but he did stay in the lower 20. His parents’ landlord had let him stay two months without rent, and Tommy had spent that time under a roof scouting out places he could rest the night, and places he could use to help him survive. He spend that time saving up and learning to pick pocket properly – because what kid in District 93 didn’t have some basic knowledge on that skill.
It wasn’t until he was already on the street that he found a nice little bakery in District 87. The bakery was really nice, like really nice, like it was from District 41 or something. But here it was, right in the middle of District 87. Tommy would look longingly inside. He had never had fresh pastries – slates from the day before were always cheaper.
Tommy noticed his brown haired kid noticing him. He tried the shrug the boy’s presence off, but it was hard. The kid would always walk in and buy a cupcake. Tommy thinks at least – there was an advertisement for a cupcake that looked like the thing the boy left the bakery with everyday – he’s pretty sure.
On day nine, the boy brought out two cupcake-things. He held one out to Tommy. “Hi! I’m Tubbo! Wanna be my friend?”
Tommy stared at him in bewilderment. He looked between the clean clothes ‘Tubbo’ had on and his rags. He cautiously look the cupcake. “This good?”
“The best.” Tubbo took a bite and smiled once he finished chrewing.
Tommy shrugged. Food was food. He took a bite. If he could get this every day: Tubbo was for sure his new best friend.
So Tommy’s days went as follows: wake up; go to school with Ranboo;  eat the half lunch Ranboo’s parents made for him; continue being bored in school; steal; have a cupcake with Tubbo; steal; eat something; go back to bed. There was other stuff in between, and times fluctuated, but that was Tommy’s life. It was sometimes hard managing the need to steal to survive and wanting the spend another fifteen minutes being a kid with Tubbo, but he pushed thought it. That was his life for a few months.
One day after post-Tubbo-evening-stealing, he walked by the bakery and saw that it was closing. Tommy knocked on the door.
“Oh I’m so sorry, but we’re closing right now,” the lady behind the counter said once she opened the door.
“I have money.” Tommy held out some cash. “Do you have any leftovers that didn’t get sold?”
She looked him up and down. Tommy bristled, knowing how he looked. “How’d you get the money?”
“Some dude gave me a couple bucks.” Not a lie – ish.
He looked at his obviously hungry form. “I’ll give it to you half price. Is there anything specific you’d like?”
“Bread.”
“Just bread?”
Tommy thought about it. “If I can afford it I’d like two cupcakes please, any flavour will do.”
The lady nodded and took his offered six dollars. She came back with a bag, it in was an unsold baguette and a Tupperware with four cupcakes. “You could really only afford the bread and one cupcake at half price. Keep the rest for free.”
“Thank you Ma’am!”
Tommy scurried off. He really only wanted two cupcakes so he could share with Ranboo at lunch, but now he could also repay his parents for the continuous food.

Tommy skipped into school the next morning; a pep in his step.
“What are you happy about today?”
“I have a surprise for you Ranboo.”
“Oh?”
“It’s a good one.”
When they got to lunch, and Ranboo gave Tommy his half a meal, Tommy pulled out the Tupperware.
“Did you bring your own food?”
“Nope.” Tommy popped the P as he brought the apple slices and carrots closer to him. “I wanted to thank you can your parents are giving me lunch.”
“Are you okay?”
“What?”
“What did you do to Tommy?”
Tommy laughed at Ranboo’s obvious distress. “Here.” He lifted the lid. “It’s a cupcake from the Sweet Shoppe and Bakery from District 87. I got ‘em at half price at the end of the day. The lady even took pity on me and gave me some for free.”
“Tommy? Accepting pity? Like actual pity? And not just your friend’s family doing something nice for you?”
Tommy lightly punched Ranboo for the jab. “Pity is fine when it’s for you.” Tommy grabbed the most smushed cupcake. “Try one. If you like ‘em enough than he don’t save them for your parents.”
Ranboo laughed. He reached for a cupcake. “You wouldn’t poison me would you?”
“Never.”
“Never.”
That was the day both Tommy and Ranboo were called into the office to be told that Ranboo’s parents had passed in an explosion at the steel manufacturers. That was the day Ranboo dragged Tommy to his apartment, and Tommy went with no complaint for the first time since his parents had died. That was the day Ranboo packed a single bag and took the potted buttercups. That was the day Ranboo moved in with Tommy at the crappy little alleyway-canopy-shelter he had created for himself. That was the day they both got on a bus and walked into a posh apartment complex in District 5 and demanded to see Sally – Ranboo’s aunt.
Tommy and Ranboo ate the other two cupcakes on the bus ride.
They were nice about it, but they told her that in order to keep going to school they needed a house and a guardian – at least on paper. They also make sure she knew that ‘they’ meant ‘Ranboo.’ One look from her nephew and Sally knew that Tommy needed it as well. Ranboo and Tommy were adamant about staying in District 93, it was all they knew.
Within a week Sally came down and bought them a nicer apartment, she figured that Tommy definitely would not want the best the District had to offer, and she signed their paper work. She made them promise that if things ever got super dire they would call.
Ranboo promised.
Tommy did not.
When Tommy and Ranboo were nine, they started living on their own in a nice apartment that they wouldn’t ever need to pay for. That fact didn’t stop Tommy from continuing the steal. Just because lodgment was paid for didn’t mean that they had food money.
Ranboo went the more sane approach and got an afternoon job.
Tommy had started buying two half priced cupcakes on his way home every night. He learned that the Sweet Shoppe and Bakery Lady was named Niki. That was cool.
One night, on the walk from District 87 to 93 when Tommy was ten he was kidnapped. Stolen off the steal without even a scream.
Ranboo didn’t wait up. Sometimes Tommy stayed over at his friend Tubbo’s. The kid Ranboo never had time to meet, but that Tommy promised – when he was being soft and nice and genuine – he would get on really well. But then Tommy wasn’t at school the next day
Or the next week.
Or the next month.
And at that point it was too late to call aunt Sally and not get a lecture about asking for help sooner. Ranboo knew that her son Fundy was in Hero Training and the fieldwork would probably be good for him. But 93 had its vigilantes, they wouldn’t want a hero-in-training patrolling. They barely tolerated normal heroes. No. Fundy didn’t need the confidence debuff that would give.
Not that Hero HQ would send in a trainee to District 93. For a single missing ten year old. Then again, aunt Sally was high profile. But he couldn’t call.
He’d just take care of his buttercups until Tommy banged through that door safe and sound.
He didn’t account for how long that would take.
