"heaven ain't close in a place like this"
— somebody told me, the killers
may 1st, 2009
“What the fuck are you doing here?”
It came hissed in the doorway between the second floor fraternity steps and the sticky wood paneled wall. Steve hovered above you, breath sour with beer and a new bottle dripping condensation through the hand dangling at his side. His eyes were slanted and directed down at your eyes watching him in surprise.
30 seconds ago, he cornered you against the wall after your swift trip to the bathroom. You caught eyes with him across the kitchen nearly an hour ago, and it took all this time of carefully scanning your movements when you weren’t looking for Steve to get you away from the junior you came with.
“What are you talking about?” you laughed. “It’s a party.”
“I didn’t invite you.”
You swallowed, trying not to let your good-natured grin drop. You were well aware that Steve didn’t invite you.
After he practically ran from your bedroom two weeks ago, things went radio silent between you and Steve. You texted, he didn’t answer. You called once, thought about leaving a voicemail, and spent a whole weekend crying when you realized: he didn’t want you. Someone who wants you doesn’t flee your room the way he did that night.
You were perfectly content wallowing in your idiocy for ever thinking Steve Harrington could have a special spot for you in his tiny, shriveled heart—until said junior you were attending tonight’s party with saw you at the dining hall.
You were studying late into the evening, sitting all alone at a table near the fireplace with your books sprawled out and your picked-at dinner in scraps. He came staggering in with a band of other men, all sweaty and half-dressed from practice. He was a linebacker on the football team, and he looked damn good easing into the chair across from you and making it squeak.
His name was Tim and he had a handsome smile, and a slow way of talking in this Texan drawl that had you blushing. For the ten minutes he sat and talked to you and asked you what you were so focused on, you forgot all about Steve.
You texted for a week, grabbed a few lunches and coffees together, and now here you were. At a frat party, invited not by Steve—but Tim.
“I know that,” you told Steve, pulling your arms up to fold them over your chest. Steve’s eyes flashed down to your breasts cupped under a black lace bra peeking through a red shirt.
“I came with Tim.”
Steve screwed up his nose, pulling back a little. “Tim? Tim who?”
Huffing, you pushed yourself off the wall and pressed Steve back by the shoulder. “Tim, Steve. Now, excuse me, but I’m gonna go find him—“
“No, hey.”
Steve snatched you by the elbow, causing you to fumble on the carpeting and narrowly miss someone heading up the steps. You gasped, stumbling into Steve still against the wall.
“Steve, what the hell?”
“‘m not done talkin’ to you.”
You glared at him, wrenching your arm away with force. “I don’t care.”
You rushed down the steps before he could speak again, head suddenly swollen with confusion, heart pounding hard in your chest. He hadn’t touched you in weeks. Hadn’t spoken to you, looked at you, so much as acknowledged you since the last time he was inside you.
All it took to get his attention was to finally attempt to move on? It was bullshit. It made your cheeks flame and your mouth line with sweetness that made your stomach coil. It wasn’t fair.
“Hey.” That soft Texan drawl called to you.
You raised your head from where you were glaring at the floor, softening when they found Tim’s green gaze. He grinned at you, still holding your red plastic cup from earlier. You retrieved it from him and allowed yourself to tuck into his side under the weight of his arm.
“You okay?”
“Yeah,” you told him. “Long bathroom line.”
Steve stepped into the fluorescents of the kitchen, weaving his way through bodies with wide, squared shoulders. He tossed a quick glance your way and shook his head as he made his way through the room. And what pissed you off most was the fact that he thought he had the right. The right to be upset, the right to think anything of you.
“Baby, you look so pretty in that lil’ top,” Tim said, tipping his chin down to you with a lopsided grin. He was a few beers in and loopy.
You grinned. “Do I?”
“Mhm. Real pretty—come gimme a kiss.”
You perked up on your toes to meet his mouth. His lips were always warm and soft and soaked in beer. Lord, college boys drank a lot. If you closed your eyes and forgot where you were, sometimes he even tasted like Steve.
But Tim always called you baby, and Tim always called you back. He walked you to class with your books in his arms and a hand on your waist, opened the door for you, and helped you into his truck when he took you for coffee.
And Steve? Steve acted like you didn’t exist if his dick wasn’t inside you.
Your tongue was just slipping past Tim’s teeth when you were torn apart by force. Tim stumbled aside, knocking you as he went and catching you quickly with a hand on your waist. Both your heads turned sharply toward the assailant.
Steve stood near the island where Tim had previously been, holding a bottle of beer and a look of nonchalance. His eyes glided from Tim’s look of surprise to your absolute glare.
“Sorry about that,” Steve said coolly. “Wasn’t watching where I was going.”
Tim resumed his spot beside you, and your body felt like it was vibrating against his. Every part of you was burning—and you couldn’t tell from what. Anger? Humiliation? Arousal? Maybe all three. You swallowed with difficulty and let Tim pull you in again. But your eyes never left Steve’s.
And his never widened from their slits. The ball of muscle near his jaw bone knotted when he clenched his teeth and it didn’t move.
“You okay, baby?” Tim’s attention was on you, and you looked away from Steve to smile at your date.
“Yeah. Yeah, I’m fine.”
The footballer had an easier lightness to him. Breezy, taking things with a grain of salt. He didn’t bother fighting Steve for his ‘mistake.’ He didn’t scold him for knocking you. He only smiled at you with a pair of pretty dimples and kissed the top of your head, arm bending around your shoulders.
“Wanna get outta here?”
Because he’d be going home with you. And it only took Tim a few moments to deduce that it was that fact alone that would drive Steve crazy. Even if you couldn’t.
You nodded, hand rubbing over his chest. You spared one more glance toward Steve, who had stepped away toward the other side of the kitchen with slow, slithering steps. He took a swig of his beer and clenched his teeth on the swallow.
“Yeah, let’s go.”
Tim held your hand on the way out, guiding you down the front steps and toward the street. Your arms swung over the pavement, and you almost felt compelled to check if Steve was watching. What the hell was wrong with you?
“So what was that?”
You peered up from the pavement to Tim’s green eyes. “What?”
He cocked his head back at the brightly-lit house dimming behind you. The music faded the further you went. He was still wearing that dimpled grin.
“Back there, with that guy.”
You inhaled, looking back toward your feet. It only took a few moments to decide that you didn’t want to lie.
“We…used to hookup. But it’s completely over, I swear.” You skirted to a stop, gathering Tim’s other hand and meeting his eye again. “He’s just being a dick about it.”
He snorted. “I sort of got that when he came from across the room to ram into me.”
A giggle burst from your mouth, but it drooped into a frown. “I’m sorry.”
Tim frowned, brows creasing. “For what? You don’t got nothin’ t’ be sorry for, pretty girl.”
The warmth pulsing in your chest you could certainly make sense of now. “Okay.”
He grinned again, dropping one of your hands to squeeze your chin affectionately. “Okay. Come on.”
You walked the rest of the way to your apartment with his heavy arm over your shoulders again. And Steve watched from the front seat of his car, knowing exactly where he was going as he peeled away from the curb.
✶ ✶
“Alright, goodnight, little lady.”
“Goodnight, Tim.”
Your voices were punctuated by the slam of a door. Quick footsteps followed, a rhythmic succession ascending the staircase. Over the creaky board on the other side of the door, then—
“What the fuck?”
It burst open to a streak of lamplight in your bedroom and one Steve Harrington shadowing it at the foot of your bed. He had your university football teddy bear in his hands. It was a gift from Tim and it had his number on the bear’s soft yellow t-shirt.
Steve leapt to his feet. “What are you doing?”
You couldn’t seem to close your mouth. It hung open as you watched Steve raise his brows and jerk his chin expectantly. He tossed his arms out on either side.
“Huh?”
You came to your senses with a hard blink. “What am I doing? What the hell are you doing? How did you get in here?”
“Same way I always get in,” he quipped.
Heat touched your cheeks as you stepped into the room and gently clamped the door shut. You snatched the teddy bear from his hand and placed it back on your desk silently. Your purse fell to the floor where you were standing.
“You didn’t answer me. What the fuck are you doing?”
“Is this about the party or Tim?” You kicked your shoes off one by one, keeping your back to Steve and his stupidly pretty face.
You had such a soft spot for pretty boys, it seemed.
“You know what? Both.”
“Okay,” you sighed, pulling the first layer of your outfit off. Steve’s eyes scanned the lace of your tank top as red fabric made its way toward the hamper. “Tim and I are seeing each other. Tim wanted to go to the party, which happened to be at your frat—alas, there we were.”
The mattress springs yipped when you bounced on the edge to pull a clean pair of socks on. You wanted to strip your jeans, too, but you didn’t want to give Steve any ideas. He was already standing there with his arms crossed and his biceps and chest all puffed and sculpted. He already had that handsome pink tinge to his cheeks: his beer blush.
“Well, it’s weird,” Steve stated.
You rolled your eyes, exhaling a snicker. “Okay, Steve. Can you leave now? I’m tired.”
Steve tapped his finger on his arm, watching you shift on the bed and feign exhaustion. He chewed his cheek for a minute before reaching for his hair.
“Well…you know I missed you, right, sweetheart?”
He dropped his hands and softened his eyes into that soft, puppy-dog pout. Your scoff was sharp and sliced through the room. Steve stepped toward the bed.
“Right.”
“No, really,” he urged, sinking into the mattress before you. “You know I was just made president, and I just got super busy, that’s all. I meant to call you.”
You tipped your head at him and stared directly into those faux-pleading hazels. "How come everything you say to me sounds like a line, Steve?"
Steve sat unblinking for a moment. Then his cheeks colored a rosy shade, and he covered it with a cruel scoff and another sweep of his hair.
"What? Come on, you-you know I like you."
You pushed off the bed, head shaking. That warmth was slowly but surely returning to your body in violent form. You pulled your hair off your neck and padded toward the window to open it. Your room already smelled too much like Steve.
"You like playing with me," you corrected, keeping your back to him even as the mattress shrieked with his freed weight.
"You know, you're such a bitch-"
You spun around, shoving him by the chest. Steve stumbled a step back, but the smirk on his face made you regret even touching him at all.
"Get out."
"Hell no," he bit, lunging back into place. He grabbed at your arm again. "You think Tim wants you either? You think he doesn't just like playing with you? You always gave it up so easy."
Tears bubbled in the edges of your eyes. A tingling burn settled in the bridge of your nose. You shoved at him again and angled your head away from him and his sneering scowl and beer breath.
"Fuck you, Steve."
“You’re trying to replace me? Hmm?” Steve cocked his head to meet your eye, and you wished you could will away the hot tear trickling down your cheek. “That’s fine, sweetheart. I’ve got ten of you in my pocket.”
He shoved your arm away with a scowl, and you sniffled as he headed toward the door. All the hot-headed, enraged words pulsing on your tongue shriveled and died—and they were replaced with a hurt and heartbreak that was so familiar it was almost comfortable.
Yet as he opened your bedroom door, you rubbed your arm where he had held you and sniffled.
“Stay away from me, Steve.”
Door in hand, Steve turned and scoffed at you. “No problem.”
✶ ✶
You spent the next hour crying between makeup wipes and playing your radio on low. Pulled a faded grey t-shirt from your pajama drawer and tried not to look at Steve’s face rumpled at the bottom on a white t-shirt. Why hadn’t you thrown it away? He was so hard to let go.
With the football bear cradled to your chest, you wiggled under the covers and reached for the lamp. Your phone buzzed consecutively on the nightstand, causing pause. The plastic clicked on its hinges as it flipped open, and the sheets rustled when you shot up in bed.
u up?
tim is a fckn l0ser
answer
i’m sorry
The first time he called, you didn’t answer. You watched the small square light up with his name, felt the plastic shake in your palm with the force of its ring.
answer
Another call. You pressed the green button, but waited.
“Hello? Hey-hello?” His faded voice brought you from your daze.
You pressed the phone to your ear. “Hello?”
“Jesus, do you not read your texts?”
“Wh-what…why are you calling me?” Disbelief colored every syllable from your mouth.
Steve huffed. “I just…how much do you really know about this Tim guy?”
You looked at the bear sitting on your lap against the sheets. “About as much as I know about you, Steve.”
The line buzzed with quiet for a while. You played with the hem of the teddy bear’s shirt and gnawed on your lip. An ache balled in your chest when the thought of him hanging up occurred to you.
“Fair,” he said quietly.
Sighing, you shimmied under the covers again and reclined back against the headboard.
“Why are you calling me, Steve?” This time it was softer. You couldn’t give in to him anymore, but you had to hear him out. He never called you like this.
He never acted like he cared until now.
“Just…don’t wanna see you get hurt.”
You scoffed, pressing your palm against your head. Despite the way your heart pulsed with excitement, and the way your nerves locked up at the thought—you knew Steve didn’t mean any of it. He was just jealous. He wanted you as his personal plaything and he didn’t like to share.
You couldn’t swallow it anymore. You couldn’t keep biting your tongue to stay the perfect toy in hopes he might see you as more.
You had to end it.
“You already took care of that, Steve.”
You reveled in the buzzing silence of the other line for a beat.
“Goodnight,” you told him.
And you hung up the phone.

Several Sentence Sunday
had idea for the scene in my Tommy feels fic so here it is (it's 2017 so Tommy only recently came out)
“You have a problem with us, young man?” the man asks him with a close to angry look in his eyes.
“I-I,” Tommy doesn’t know what to answer.
Yes, I have a problem with how freely you love each other because even after I came out and started dating openly over the last 6 months I still feel like a fraud. And  like I don’t deserve it. Like I don’t deserve to be loved and love someone - that’s what he wants to say. He doesn’t.
“Mitchell, please, let’s get back to our table. I’m sure the young man was just sad that his date never showed up,” the other man puts his hand on his - Tommy suspects judging by similar rings - husband’s shoulder.
“He actually showed up. But it definitely was our first and last date,” Tommy says with a sad smile. “I-I just,” he exhales, and looks at similar kind looks on men’s faces now. “I admired, but also was jealous of the two of you. I was in the closet for years and only really started dating not long ago and it was a disaster. I want to find someone to be like the two of you.”
“Oh, son,” Mitchell says with a smile and gentle pat on his shoulder, “trust me, you don’t find love like that, you make it. Am I right Thomas?”
“Oh, absolutely.” Thomas smiles at him and then at Tommy, “I’m sure you will find someone you will love so much and really feel like you can make life with. Eventually. Don’t rush the universe, young man. It knows when to give it to you.”
“Yes. Concentrate on loving and accept yourself fully for now, son. Then, when you’re ready, that good man will be here and you two will build something special,” with last pat on his shoulder Mitchell leads Thomas back to their table and Tommy with the last look at their happiness, gets up and out of restaurant.
Love myself first? Ok, let’s try.
Tommy finds the number of his old therapist.

Despite Hob's success on Wall Street, life is starting to feel meaningless. Limitless sex, drugs, and money should be endlessly entertaining but instead he's bored, he feels empty, like something's missing.
Something, maybe, like the beautiful, tragic musician he meets at a party, who opens more than one new door in Hob's life--and reawakens the buried longing in his heart.
--
Hob lies on the couch of the crowded apartment he’s found himself in for the evening, head tipped back over the arm. Pounding music thumps distantly around him. Dim lights. Warm bodies moving in blurs. He ignores it all. Picks up his vodka soda from the coffee table and takes a swig. Half of it runs over the side of his mouth instead of into it.
He’s… bored. What’s wrong with him that he’s bored surrounded by as much drugs, sex, and general debauchery as he could possibly want?
But he is. All that climbing for so long and now… he doesn’t know where he is. Why he’s doing any of it. The climb, the growth, was fun for a while. Chasing hunger, chasing more, that was fun. But now he has all of it. Supposedly.
He sighs. Pours the rest of his drink inelegantly into his mouth. If he wants another one he’s going to have to get up. He doesn’t really feel like getting up. He feels like merging himself with the couch instead.
The party spins on around him, as it always does. Not everyone’s feeling as burnt out on sex, drugs, and debauchery as Hob is.
He could go track down some coke, he thinks hazily. Someone here’ll have some. Maybe it would kick his energy back up.
He just feels kind of tired at the thought.
It says something bad about the point he’s reached in life that even cocaine isn’t doing it for him anymore.
“This is very dull,” says a low voice, and a man slumps down beside him, sitting on the floor and leaning back against the couch. He tilts his head back, looking up at Hob. “Do you think so?”
“Yeah,” Hob says, and then does a double take as he catches a proper look at the man.
Christ but he’s gorgeous. Nothing like the men Hob would normally see at a thing like this—nothing like Hob himself—with their fashionable suits, slick hair, slicker smiles. This man is lithe and sprawling, like a wild predator, stark black and white lines, spiky hair, dark makeup, studs flowing down his ears like raindrops. Clever eyes. Long fingers clutching a cocktail that he doesn’t seem particularly interested in.
Hob is instantly fucked.
“I was promised good drugs and better sex and I’m bored on both counts,” the man continues. He takes a sip of his drink, and grimaces.
“That why you’ve come over here?” Hob asks. “Because I looked equally bored?”
“Exactly.” He offers the drink to Hob. “You should try this.”
Hob takes it. It’s… very blue. “What the hell is this?”
“There was a girl working the bar… very drunk. She said she would make me her ‘special potion.’”
That sounds… questionable. Hob takes a sip, and chokes. “Christ.”
“I witnessed her pour in vodka, Prosecco, and tequila. Blue Curaçao—for color, of course. And maraschino cherries.” He plucks one out of the glass by the stem—there are about seven of them total—and eats it.
“What the fuck.” The stuff’s revolting. Hob takes another sip. “That’s alcohol poisoning in a glass.”
“It’s been one of the better parts of the night,” the man says.
Hob returns the glass, and the man tosses more of the drink back, his throat working. Hob’s just drunk enough to not attempt to stop staring like a creep. He wants to ask him if he wants to get out of here, or even just to steal away into one of the many spare bedrooms—it wouldn’t be out of place at a party like this, hell, Hob could drag him into his lap on the fucking couch, everyone’s far too drunk to care—but propositioning this creature for a mere hookup feels like wearing an Italian suit to mud wrestle. What a waste of a perfectly-made thing.
How did something like this wind up at this party?
“Who’d you come in with?” he asks, as the man plucks another cherry from the glass and delicately bites it off the stem.
“Someone who gave me a rather mediocre blowjob after a show,” he says. “I suppose I thought I would find better here, but I was mistaken.”
“Fifty-fifty shot on that, I’d say,” Hob says. Based on personal experience. Sometimes mediocre is good enough. Sometimes sex, regardless of quality, is good enough. For a while it has been. He’s not so sure anymore.
“I dislike betting,” says the man. Then stretches up a limp hand to shake Hob’s. “If we are to commiserate, perhaps names are in order. I am Morpheus.”
Morpheus. What kind of name. Though he had said at a show. A performer of some kind? “Hob,” says Hob, shaking his hand despite the awkward angle.
“Greetings,” says Morpheus solemnly. “You are the first man I’ve met tonight who has not tried to impress me with inanities. I am indebted to you.”
Hob tips his head back against the arm of the couch again with a sigh. “Too tired for bullshit. What’ve people been saying to you, then?”
“I have been taught much,” Morpheus says seriously. “Thrice I have been ‘educated’ on the great promise of ‘mortgage-backed securities.’ The reactions to my disinterest ranged from offense to outright concern for my sanity.”
“I think they were just trying to get in your pants,” Hob tells him.
Morpheus frowns. “The finance lecture was not helping their case. In fact, with each passing minute, I became more aggressively repelled.”
Hob laughs. “You’re on Wall Street, baby,” he says. It comes out kind of slurred. “Only thing more important than the size of a man’s dick is the size of his portfolio.”
Morpheus hums in consideration. “Neither of those has a direct correlation to talent.”
“Try telling them that,” Hob says.
Morpheus sits up straighter against the couch, leaning his head on his arm to study Hob. “I suppose I should ask about yours.”
“You’re too pretty for me to be tacky like that,” Hob says honestly. Maybe he’s a bit more drunk than he thought.
“Am I?” Morpheus seems pleased.
“So pretty.”
“Hmm.” Morpheus rests his cheek on the couch cushion. The tips of his hair brush Hob’s hip. His eyes are so liquid in this light. Hob wonders if he’s hallucinating his existence.
He reaches out, mesmerized, to touch Morpheus’s hair. Morpheus doesn’t stop him. He lets Hob pet him, eyes falling shut. His hair is tacky on the ends with hair spray, but soft underneath.
“I’ll tell you a secret,” Hob says, and Morpheus hums. “All those self-important stockbrokers trying to impress you with their convoluted financial instruments… they just want to hide that it’s all really a scam.”
“Is it now?” says Morpheus. “I was under the assumption it was legal.”
“Something can be a scam and technically legal. Oh, it’s all very clever. But it’s just building money on top of money with nothing real to support it. Kick out the base of the tower and it’ll all go into free fall.” He makes a whistling, falling sound, and Morpheus smirks.
“And I suppose you are better than all this.”
Hob chuckles. “Oh, no. I’m a money-grubbing little vermin, too. Just letting you in on the game. How it’s not so serious.”
“Hmm. I am a musician,” says Morpheus. As Hob figured, then. “I’m afraid it’s as serious as death.”
“Hence the all-black ensemble and the makeup,” Hob says.
“Indeed.”
Hob wants to hear Morpheus play. Or sing, or whatever it is he does. He bets he’d be exquisite. Divine. Hob can imagine those lips pressed to a microphone. Or those long fingers on guitar strings.
“Do you want something more interesting than alcohol?” says Morpheus.
“Why, you still bored?”
“Less and less so.” He pulls from his pocket a small bag of pills and hands it to Hob.
“You brought your own drugs to a party where you were promised drugs?”
“Promises cannot be counted on,” says Morpheus seriously.
“What is it?” Hob asks, then decides he doesn’t care, and takes a pill, chasing it with the watery last drops of his drink, which is a terrible idea, but then, he’s full of them.
“Ketamine,” says Morpheus. Oh, great, Hob thinks. Morpheus takes it back from him and takes a pill himself. “It occasionally makes me feel less like I am going to hurl myself from the balcony.”
He doesn’t seem to be joking. “Good for something, then,” Hob says. “Why do you want to jump off the balcony?” He still has his hand in Morpheus’s hair. He honestly can’t believe he hasn’t propositioned him yet. That’s not like him. These parties are usually only good for quick, casual sex. He even thinks Morpheus would probably agree, and yet.
“The state of things,” says Morpheus. He has such a deep, solemn voice. Hob wants to touch his mouth, or throat maybe. Okay, this is already not going so well. “And the state of my heart.”
Hob pets his hair again. Morpheus leans into the touch. “Writing songs about yearning and angst and stuff isn’t fixing it?” He can well enough guess what Morpheus’s music is probably like.
“No,” says Morpheus. He seems to really think about it. “I think it is making things worse. Perhaps I will try manipulating the financial markets instead. Is that giving you existential fulfillment?”
“There’s only so much money you can make before it starts feeling stupid,” Hob says. Maybe he should just throw all his cash out the window and go live in the woods or something. Carve figurines out of fallen trees. Probably do more good for the world, not that that’s ever been a focus of his. “Maybe it was always stupid.”
“No solution has been found for us yet, then,” says Morpheus. “Would you care to go outside? I find that if you are high enough, the city lights look like stars.”
“You’re not going to jump off the balcony, are you?” Hob asks, suspicious.
“This is not the right locale for my dramatic end.”
Somehow, Hob actually believes him. Morpheus wouldn’t truly kill himself unless it could have the right effect.
Hob levers himself up from the couch. Oh Jesus, now the room is spinning. The pounding music is starting to feel louder, starting to thud through him. Feels good, though. Everything being bright and hazy.
He helps Morpheus to his feet. Leads him, hand in hand, out to the balcony. They lean against the stone wall, looking down at the street, dizzyingly far below, cars poking along like lines of luminescent ants, distant horns crying. Then up, out at the collision of skyscrapers.
Morpheus was right. The lights are spinning and twinkling, just like stars. It reminds Hob of the first time he’d come to New York, when he was looking for adventure, and to get a little rich—or a lot rich—and everything had seemed like it was glowing and buzzing and flying.
The air is clearer up here than down on street level, and Morpheus tips his head up, breathing it in. His throat is so long, his shoulders and collarbone so angular. He looks like he’s been starving. But the stud in his ear at least looks from afar like a real ruby. Intentional, then, to be skin and bones.
“I think I am tired,” he admits, still looking up at the sky. “Do you know that… all I had ever wanted was for someone to like my music. And now I have that and it has not fixed anything.”
Hob takes his arm and pulls him close. He’s feeling very touchy-feely now, which could be the drugs but could also just be Morpheus. He’s so pretty and he looks so sad, and his sadness is beautiful and all the more terrible for that.
“I could kiss it better,” he offers. It’s still not a real proposition. Hob’d just kiss his hand if that’s what he wanted. Or the sharp bone of his sternum under those hanging necklaces. Or kneel at his feet and kiss his thigh—
Christ. Hob’ll be lucky if he survives the night, at this rate.
Morpheus looks at him, eyebrow raised. But Hob must look serious about it, because he says, “Okay.”
So Hob leans in and kisses his cheek. And Morpheus smiles, a bright, truly happy smile, just for a moment.
“Do you wish to dance?” he says. “I do not usually, but I feel I may fall over if I move from this wall without something to hold onto.”
Yeah, the floor is kind of moving. And Hob will certainly not turn down having Morpheus in his arms. “You wanna dance to this shit?”
They’re playing some godawful thumping grating song over the speakers now, and Hob doesn’t think either of them is up to the kind of bouncing thrashing dance that would call for.
“I will sing something different in your ear,” Morpheus says.
So Hob draws him in, wraps his arms around his waist. Morpheus plasters himself to Hob’s body, mouth to the shell of Hob’s ear. He starts humming a low, melancholic song. Hob shivers at the brush of his voice.
They sway together with very little coordination. Eventually Morpheus starts singing, though Hob’s brain isn’t capable at the moment of taking in many of the lyrics. It’s something about longing, and losing things in a terrible fire. Hob presumes it’s one of his songs. Morpheus’s voice is gorgeous, low and hypnotic, and Hob closes his eyes as it rumbles straight through him.
“You’re beautiful,” he murmurs eventually, filled with a sudden tragic pain about it. “Please don’t throw yourself off the balcony.”
Morpheus chuckles. “Another time, perhaps.”
“Never,” Hob says vehemently, and clutches his warm body close. He might cry about it. Fucking drugs. “We should go get food. You’re so fucking bony I think might you die of an overdose if we don’t sop it up. You had that wretched drink, too. Christ.”
“You are worried for me?” says Morpheus, sounding touched.
“Incredibly. Come on.” Hob finally pulls away from him, with chagrin, and takes his hand. “This party’s shit. I’ll take you to get pizza.”
“Pizza,” Morpheus repeats, with a tiny smile. It’s gorgeous on his face. “Very well.”
--
One dollar pizza is one of New York’s greatest inventions, in Hob’s opinion. They find some hole-in-the-wall place barely a block from the apartment building, and stand outside the door, eating incredibly greasy pizza off of paper plates, and it’s fucking heaven. It might be the best pizza Hob’s ever had in his life—granted he’s still very high.
Morpheus is scarfing his down like all pizza on earth is about to be chucked into space. Poor bony thing. Hob just wants to feed him up until he stops looking like a skeletal waif that’s about to drop dead at a cold breeze.
And wants to fuck him, too. Yeah, that’s still there, even with Morpheus licking grease off his fingertips. It’s actually getting worse because of that.
“Told you,” Hob says. “Needed some bread to soak up the fifteen shots in that drink.”
“I think I may throw up,” Morpheus says, with the careful articulation of someone who very well might. “But I am enjoying it nonetheless.”
“Let me know and I’ll find you a bin,” Hob says. He’s had worse nights than puking on the street corner.
“Now I owe you sexual favors in return for this generous meal,” says Morpheus, folding the empty paper plate with surprising precision, considering his enduring level of intoxication, and sliding it into a nearby trash bin.
It says something about Hob’s own level of intoxication that he barely responds to this statement. “Oh, yeah, the whole four dollars of it. What does that get me?”
Morpheus scrunches his nose in thought. “Two kisses,” he decides.
“We’ll save it for after you’ve decided if you’re going to throw up.”
Morpheus giggles. He’s so cute.
Hob tosses his own plate, and takes Morpheus by the arm. “Come on. You can come back with me. I don’t live that far.”
“Ah, now the proposition,” says Morpheus, but doesn’t sound unhappy about it.
“The ‘make sure my new friend doesn’t get hit by a cab effort’, more like, but sure.” He feels kind of responsible for Morpheus now. If Morpheus actually threw himself off a balcony Hob would never forgive himself.
“Friend,” repeats Morpheus, sounding pleased.
“See, isn’t this better?” Hob says.
“Better?”
“You got to eat pizza and didn’t even puke yet, isn’t that better than killing yourself?”
Morpheus huffs. “Quite a dichotomy. If you recall you too stated that you felt your efforts becoming meaningless.”
“Yeah, but I’m not gonna jump out a window about it.”
“Fortitude,” Morpheus says, and it sounds mocking but Hob doesn’t really mind. Maybe it is fortitude, he doesn’t know. Maybe to Morpheus fortitude is gullibility, continuing to play the game when it’s long lost its spark and its reward. Hob likes the game, though.
“What will you do about it, then?” Morpheus asks.
“Dunno.” It’s the first time Hob’s really thought about it. Up until now, it’s been about chasing. Always wanting more. But now— now he’s basically at the top. Where he wanted to be. And... there’s really nothing there at all. “Leave New York, maybe.”
The words surprise him, even as he says them. Midtown is so bright, even at four a.m. It’s something Hob once loved about the area. About the city. But now he’s staring into Morpheus’s darkness. Into the ink stain of his hair against the glowing storefront lights, the sway of his body, graceful even while swimming in dissociation. And everything feels different.
“To go where?” says Morpheus.
“Back to London, maybe.” He has enough money to go anywhere. And yet, it’s hard to feel a particular point to anywhere. Where’d his sense of adventure go? His ambition? Somewhere it all slipped, in the glut of the present.
“I grew up in London,” Morpheus says. “It is too personal there, now.”
So he’s chasing something too. Or running away.
“Tokyo, then,” Hob says, as if Morpheus coming with him is a key part of the decision. “Is’at the furthest city from New York? Gotta be close.”
“It’s Perth,” says Morpheus.
“You’ve looked it up?”
Morpheus nods solemnly. “And from London: Wellington.”
“It’s settled, then,” says Hob.
“I am coming with you?” says Morpheus.
“Course.” Hob’s not going across the world by himself. Not anymore. He bumps his shoulder with Morpheus’s, squeezes his arm where they’re leaning together. “You’re coming with me.”
“We should go further, then,” says Morpheus.
“Antarctica?”
“Mars.”
Hob finds himself giggling, mirth rising in him like champagne bubbles. Morpheus giggles, too. It’s truly a ridiculous sound in his deep voice.
“They don’t have cool jackets on Mars,” Hob says, poking at Morpheus’s studded blazer.
“Ah.” Morpheus frowns. “Maybe not, then.”
That only makes Hob laugh louder, leaning on Morpheus’s arm, and Morpheus sighs, irritated to be made fun of, but doesn’t push him away.
“Come on, I’m here,” Hob says, steering Morpheus into his apartment building as it comes up. They make their way across the lobby and to the elevator bank, only a little unsteady, and then slump against the wall once the elevator doors close.
“I think I am very sleepy,” Morpheus says, tipping his head back against the mirrored wall as they go up, up, up the insanely tall skyscraper Hob’s for some reason chosen to live in.
“You think you are?”
Morpheus squints at the infinite tunnel being created by the opposing mirrors on the walls. It’s dizzying, more so now, when they aren’t exactly sober. He shudders and closes his eyes. “I would have to be connected to my physical form to know for sure.”
Yeah, Hob’s feeling that too. The walls are kind of tipping in at him, which is particularly uncomfortable when they’re mirrored. “I’ll put you to bed, sweetie.” He still really, really wants to bed him, more specifically, but he might also be about to fall over. He’ll rue the missed opportunity in the morning, but it can’t be helped.
“Sweetie,” Morpheus echoes, with vague distaste, and tips his head against Hob’s shoulder.
The doors slide open, and they stumble out into the hall. Hob somehow manages to get his keys in the door and get them inside without dropping Morpheus, who’s now using him to support almost his entire weight, and then gets them into the bedroom.
What follows is a dreamlike whirlwind of undressing, where the floor keeps tipping under him, where he tries to hold Morpheus up as he slips out of his boots and his bloody complicated jacket, his skintight jeans and even tighter shirt, helps take each ring off his slim fingers to leave carefully on the nightstand, and the pendants too, and gives him a t-shirt to sleep in, and Morpheus says, “Wait— I must—” and flees to Hob’s adjoining bathroom to strip off his makeup with some makeup wipes scavenged from Hob’s cabinet, undoubtedly left behind by a prior hookup. The silly thing talks about killing himself but still puts effort into skincare. Hob just shakes his head, then regrets it as it makes the room spin.
He strips down to boxers and undershirt and climbs into bed, because he is actually about to fall over, and soon enough Morpheus stumbles back out and collapses into the sheets beside him. For a moment they just gaze at each other in the dark. Hob means to do something, to kiss him, maybe, claim one of the ones that was promised. But exhaustion claims him first.

Tumblr media
The drive from Austin to Corpus Christi was not one Joel took often, but this time it’s special.
This is first road trip with his girls, you and Sarah. It’s an early birthday week celebration for him. And honestly? He could just be on the road, driving around all day with no destination, and he wouldn’t mind a damn minute.
You by his side, Sarah in the back singing along to the radio - he never thought he’d ever find this slice of heaven before him.
He knew how nervous you were about the trip, knowing this would be another big step in the relationship. But with how effortlessly natural it was seeing you wake up in his bed, help pack the truck, even make breakfast for Sarah… a settling sensation filled his chest like you were always meant to be here, like realizing you were a finishing stitch into Joel’s life.
It’s a perfect early birthday treat he wants to savor forever.
With the windows rolled down, the traces of the morning sunlight illuminating the air, the beat of the radio, and you laughing at something Sarah said, Joel Miller is beyond content. The scenery from the Austin city limits blurs into soft hills that turn into stunning stretches of green. Then the towering palm trees arrive.
The few benefits of the Texas heat is still getting beach days in mid September.
The shimmer of the ocean already in sight perks Sarah up, and Joel beams.
“Dad, we have to go to those beach shops first please.” She urges, then eagerly explains to you the lure of the way too ridiculous tourist trap spots.
“Some even have these huge fake sharks in front you can take pictures with.” Sarah paints the image with brilliant excitement.
You’re glancing back at Sarah, hanging on her every word with graced patience, and Joel thinks his heart might melt out of his ribs.
He’s found something special here with you. He almost feels selfish at how badly he wants to hold onto it tight, never let you go.
As promised, before heading to the shoreline, Joel stops by a tourist shop that has a very large plastic shark wide with its teeth open before the door.
You laugh, twinkling and brilliant seeing it.
“See I told ya!” Sarah laughs happily.
“Oh we gotta take all the pictures with it.” You eagerly suggest and Joel wonders…
If maybe inside he grabs one of those ridiculous sea shell rings and propose to you right here and now.
-
The shop stands coated in a unique type of plastic over coated painted wonder. There’s a painted mural of seagulls flying over a bright pink sky on the wall. Another wall is coated top to bottom in various t-shirts that make you and Sarah giggle. So many wind chimes made of seashells hang from above.
You can’t believe your eyes trying to soak it all in.
“They even have hermit crabs here?” You’re a bit surprised at the rows of take home creatures that crawl around in their containers.
“Yes, ugh I’ve been trying to convince dad to let me get one for years.” Sarah sighs slightly pouting. “But he isn’t a fan.”
“Say it’s his birthday present.” You joke, and Sarah snickers.
You adore Joel’s daughter. Sarah is bright, incredibly clever and sweet, a pure wonder you’re grateful has allowed you into her and her dad’s life.
She even has been secretly telling you what she might be getting Joel for his birthday.
“I think I’m gonna just end up fixing his watch for him. I know he won’t ever do it himself.” She’s a considerate and deeply caring soul. Something she takes after her dad beautifully.
“Well if you need me to cover for you or take you, I can help.” You offer.
Sarah turns to you wearing the kindest smile and thanks you for the offer.
“But I think I got a plan. If it doesn’t work out though, trust me you’re my first alibi.” She nods firm.
“I’m honored, just don’t have me breaking you out of jail just yet.” You grin, and she playfully nudges you.
It’s affectionate. You learned fast the Millers love to tease, love showing their affection with quick wit and deep bonding. You’re grateful to be a part of that now.
Sarah eventually wanders back to Joel. You wonder if she’s really going to try and persuade him to get a hermit crab.
Wandering on your own now, you stumble across more clothing.
Specifically, you find yourself gravitated to the baby clothes section.
The small little onesies with dolphins on them, and the few cute shirts that say my first beach trip, all tug at your heart.
It takes everything in you not to grab one.
But you don’t want to spoil your birthday gift to Joel, not yet. You just found out earlier this week after all.
You just had to wait a little longer. You hope it will be worth it.
Before Joel or Sarah can spot you, you try finding one of the Millers first. Sarah of course chats with one of the cashiers at the hermit crab counter, and you snicker walking towards Joel. He stands surveying the kitschy fish wall decorations.
“I think we’re going to be going home with an extra little crawling critter. Sarah’s persistent.” You smirk.
Joel rolls his eyes.
“She can try all she want, but we ain’t taking a damn crab home.” He drawls out with a classical grumpy Joel pout. “Unless it’s fried.”
You snicker moving to lean against his side while an indescribable affection, a cotton candy delicate sweetness, blooms in you and you haven’t even gotten to the beach yet.
Joel must sense it too. His arms immediately draw you into him more, and he kisses the top of your head.
“Glad we took this road trip.” He mutters soft.
“Me too.” You agree rubbing his back.
“Sarah said we should make it yearly thing.” He adds.
“We should. Good way to celebrate your birthday early.” You fondly say.
He huffs. “Don’t want any crazy celebration I told ya. Just my girls, Tommy, and maybe a cake, that’s all I need.”
“Nothing crazy huh?” You tease soft.
“Baby, haven’t had a crazy birthday since I was twenty and ain’t wanted one since.” He snorts.
Now slight fear tugs at you. Maybe you should tell him your surprise now, or sooner than expected.
“Hey,” Joel’s soft warm hand moves to your face letting his thumb softly rub your jaw. “Y’okay, darlin’?”
You swallow hard, but nod with a smile.
“Yup just ready to get to the beach.” You half lie.
“Me too,” then he leans down closer to your ear. “Can’t wait to see how fuckin’ sexy you’ll be in that swim suit of yours-”
“Joel Miller.” You cry playfully aghast and swat his chest.
Joel rolls his eyes, yet a smile tugs at his lips.
Soon enough Sarah calls out for her dad causing you and him to slowly pull away.
The beach is calling too after all.
-
The rain patters a soft steady melody against the truck. You’re thankful everyone got in a few good hours in the waves, soaking in the nice weather, before the rain drops began. A downfall to Texas weather is its unpredictability.
Sarah sleeps soundly in the back tired out from enjoying the beach.
Sitting in the passengers detached in the cozy warmth of the truck, you even catch your eyes dropping shut every now and then.
“Get some rest, sweetheart. We still got a few hours on the road.” Joel, ever considerate, softly says over the radio.
You decide to maybe just rest for a little bit, settling into the seat more.
“Sorry we didn’t get to spend a full day at the beach.” You mutter, closing your eyes.
“Don’t be sorry, honey,” Joel reassures warm. His hand slides over to squeeze your knee closest to him across the counsel.
“Today was great.” His voice is thick, earnest in the buried emotions waiting for you to sink into. Now opening your eyes again, you glance over to Joel.
The soft stormy lighting coats him dreamy and cozy. His hair is even still fluffed up from the sand and sea, the picture perfect dreamy vacation man or possibly a mythical sea god you’ve luckily caught onto land. He’s incredibly handsome, your Joel.
“Thanks for coming.” He adds above a soft whisper.
“Thanks for letting me tag along.” You reply back just as soft, delicate.
“Of course,” his eyes flicker to you briefly. “Here’s hopin’ to many more trips together.”
Your heart swells, and you wonder if you might just get swept into the current of Joel Miller forever.
“Here’s to more trips together.” You repeat, solidifying his words into your soul.
You hope he’ll be happy with the news you have. You’re still hesitant about it, but right now, simple tender peace envelopes you right now in this moment.
“Love you, Miller. Happy early birthday.” You say half asleep as the exhaustion creeps in.
“Thanks baby, love y’too.” His voice floats in with the rain drops, and it's beautiful.
Your eyes glance out at the misty road blurring before you and how the rain paints the world in a water color soaked dream. Closing your eyes, you decide to get some sleep on this drive.
Maybe you will tell him about your surprise when you get home.
Then Joel’s phone buzzes.
From what you catch, it’s Tommy. Must be something about work because Joel’s voice low takes on his contractor big brother boss tone.
“Yeah, I’ll check it out when I get home.” He sighs annoyed, tired.
Joel’s been so busy this month. You even know how much it took for him to take time for this trip.
A heaviness weighs you down, and a slight edge of guilt follows. Maybe you’ll wait to tell him on his actual birthday. Surprise him with the little longhorn onesie you bought ready to show him and of course Sarah.
In the truck, you simply slip into the cocoon of crystalized peace here. You already dream of another beach trip, the next time maybe with a baby car seat in the back and Sarah happily cooing over her sibling…
And your hand holding Joel’s staring out at the road ahead, hopeful for this new path with him.
-
Sarah’s morning knock jolts you and Joel up wearily out of bed.
“Didn’t know we slept in so late.” Joel mutters, dragging you closer into his sleepy hold.
“Mhm, early birthday sex would do that to ya.” You reply with a grin.
Today’s the day.
“Happy birthday baby.” You whisper adoringly, pressing your lips to his, basking in this moment with him.
“Thanks sweetheart.” His warm sleepy voice drips molten sin, and it’s hard fighting the urge to call into work today and begging Joel to do the same.
The morning is eased, perfectly Joel. Sarah even cooks eggs for everyone and soon enough Tommy joins.
A part of you wants to blurt out your announcement now with all the Millers here, but then contract work again takes over the focus of the conversation. Then the weird news announcement about Jakarta shifted the conversation. But you try not to worry about it.
Today would be a good day.
It’s Joel’s day after all.
As Joel talks to his neighbors, Sarah makes an excuse about forgetting something then drags you off to the side.
“Dad’s gonna forget a cake, I just know it.” She sighs knowingly.
“Don’t worry, I’ll pick one up.” You reassure her warm.
She beams warm then hugs you tight.
Normally Joel drives you to work, but now with the mission of picking up the cake, you use the excuse of needing to stay late as to why you take your car.
Joel pouts but gives you a sweet see you later kiss.
Tommy almost seems to know something is up cause he winks knowingly at you.
It’s a soft morning, a rare beautiful day already with Austin traffic being somewhat manageable.
You happily reassure yourself you’ll tell Joel about the baby when you get home from work. You hope to
surprise him with a cake and then the little extra sweet announcement with it.
Still sitting in Austin traffic, the radio again discusses the news of Jakarta now going on lockdown. The somber tone sends a chill up your spine. You simply change the radio to another station.
You let your mind return to that possible dream of the road trips to come, and of the little onesie sitting in your work bag waiting.
Today is going to be a good day. You just know it.

🗞️🗞️🗞️
“And… cut!”
“We had a bigger audience tonight. Looks like you’ve finally managed to draw the public’s attention.” You handed Eddie a smirk and a cup of coffee while he took off his earphones.
“I always draw attention, baby” he took it and winked at you, taking a sip but immediately making a face of disgust indicating the sugar that was not there.
You knew exactly how he wanted it, but you loved pissing him off.
“And you always brings me the coffee the way you know I don’t want it,” he said as he paced to the studio’s kitchen, followed by your fast steps behind him.
“Ops! And I don’t always bring you coffee, I jus-“
“You just happened to be passing by the coffee shop. Mhmm. I know,” he mocked your tone and expressions, “and you also just happen to be thinking of me all of the time, hm?” He pinched your nose.
You gave him an annoyed look, “well, the world doesn’t revolve around you, Mr. Alden!” You said jokingly, pronouncing the “Mr. Alden” with very much cursive letters.
“Don’t call me that… At least not here.” You were always impressed by the way Eddie could manipulate the look in his eyes to translate exactly what he was thinking about. And, 99,9% he was only thinking about one thing.
Sex.
“Oh I’m not calling you that anywhere, believe me”
“Hmm, cause you rather scream my name, huh?” He raised his brows at you in a funny way, using his arms to cage your body between his and the kitchen counter while swaying a little, making you laugh in that way he loved; when your eyes squeezed together and your head hanged back with a big grin on your lips.
He just loved seeing you happy, specially if he was the reason. When was he going to admit it to you? Probably never.
“Eddie, Jesus! Not here!” Now both of you were laughing unglued his hands from your sides and pushed him away, giving him light taps on the chest.
“Alden, newsroom wants to see you.” Someone from the staff peaked from the door, causing your bodies to distance from each other at the speed of a Formula 1 car, him pretending to still put sugar on the coffee and you weirdly looking for something in the sink.
“I’ll be there in a minute, thank you,” he nodded his head, “wait for me tonight,” he smirked and taped your bum lightly, making you jump.
“Oh yeah bet on it,” you gave him a teasing tone.
“I’ll be watching you,” Eddie motioned his point and middle fingers from his eyes to yours, already by the door.
“That’s cause I always draw attention!”
🗞️🗞️🗞️
“Oh… fuck-“, you tried your best to whisper half of the depravations that were slipping from your lips and to swallow the other half that were stuck in your throat.
But it was very hard when Eddie had you sitting by the end of his desk, skirt up and legs spread wide upon his shoulders so his head could sit perfectly between them.
“So sweet, princess,” his praises were muffled against your throbbing clit, both of his hands hardly squeezing the sides of your thighs. He spent the whole morning dreaming about the taste of your pussy, and by lunch he couldn’t wait anymore.
“W-we have five minutes, Ed,” your worried little mind kept you looking every 5 seconds towards the foggy glasses on his door, but this time got interrupted by your eyes screwing shut and your mouth hanging open in a silenced cry when Eddie quit the sucking in your bud to fuck your hole with his tongue.
“I- we-,” every time you tried to say something and your words died in muffled little moans and cries he sucked and fucked harder. Eating you out was for sure one of Eddie’s favorite things and making you come when you couldn’t scream or cry freely was like a reward for his tiring day.
Having the opportunity to give you pleasure and piss you off at the same time? He was in.
“C’mon baby, cum on my tongue, hm? Wanna taste my girl,” he used two of his fingers to spread your wetness all over your center before nuzzling his head back again, nose stimulating your clit while his tongue entered you hungrily, in and out, in and out, the vibrations of his moans exploding fireworks in your veins.
The man was devouring you.
You came in a quiet moan, fingers gripping Eddie’s roots while his nails dig in your upper thighs and his face drowned in your cunt. He sucked and lapped you clean, until you were too sensitive to bear anything else, “fuck, thank you, baby. Here,” he gave you a paper tower from the adjoining bathroom he had in his office and helped you put your panties and skirt back. If you didn’t already knew all too well the smirk he had on his face you’d think by that he was something that he actually wasn’t.
A gentleman.
But deep, down, he was. For you, at least.
“Can you stand?”
“You have done better performances”
“Oh of course. ‘oh, fuck! Eddie! so good! we have 5 minutes!’” he joked while pulling you in for a see you later hug and a kiss on the cheek before you could run away from him, “thanks, bub. Best lunch ever”
“You’re disgusting,” you laughed, pushing his chest and stepping towards the door.
“If I was I wouldn’t have your pussy all over my face now, would I?”
“Disgusting,” you mouthed and closed the door, not giving him time to fry your braincells that had just started working again.
🗞️🗞️🗞️
“Shhh. Almost there, baby. You can take it, just a little more”
“So good,” you whispered, the words slipping from your lips while the raindrops slipped down your window.
Your plan definitely wasn’t to end up under Eddie tonight, but the thunderstorms got louder than you thought they would. And as it always happens between the two of you, one thing led to the other, and…
“Fuck- found your spot, pretty girl? So good t’me,” Eddie was fucking you tonight. You didn’t know if it was because of the rain painting your frames with the moonlight, the fact that it’s been a little while since you’ve slept together or if he found it cute every time you shivered and gripped his biceps cause a thunder was a bit too loud.
His cock was nestled deep inside your walls, messaging your favorite spots with each thrust. He was going slow, fierce, calculated, and he had all the patience in the world.
You could feel him everywhere.
From his fingers in your scalp to his hot tongue slow dancing with yours to every vein rubbing your walls deliciously. Sometimes his dick split out because of how wet you were together and he didn’t even bother, he kept fucking your clit with his tip, up and down, up and down, making you see stars until he felt you couldn’t take it anymore and tucked himself back in. His words? Praises and praises and praises hanging from his lips like sugar. You’ve never felt so full and so… Adored.
“Yeah, c’mon princess, can feel your little pussy squeezin’ me. Think you can come now, baby?” Eddie slowed even more his pace to watch your face contort in pleasure while tears fell down your eyes, every pulse of your warm cunt around his cock sending him closer and closer to the edge. You came within seconds, nodding your head “yes” while your little pants and moans being muffled by his own, your mouths tangled while he came with you, filling the condom you help him put earlier on.
Both of you had - intentionally - little to no sex like that; but it happened. And when it happened, it was usually because you either lost yourselves or one needed so much. You tried not to be too much in your head about it, but it was difficult when Eddie kissed your forehead and played with your head, still inside you.
He didn’t want to go, either.
“You don’t look so afraid of the noises now,” he tried to break the silence between you, knowing very well it wasn’t the awkward or comfortable types, but the emotional kind.
“The rain stopped,” you let out, with tears still leaking from your eyes.
“And are you sad about it?” he dried them from your cheek.
You smiled, “fuck you.”
“You just did,” he stared at you for a bit, caressing your cheeks as your eyes stopped watering and the last raindrops flowed down the window.
“Stay? It might rain again…”
You lifted your pinky between your bodies, “just this time,” and he embraced your smaller finger with his, “just this time.”
But both of you knew it wasn’t just this time.
It would rain again.
🗞️🗞️🗞️
When your keys turned on the locket the last thing you expected was to meet Eddie eating ice cream directly from the pot at home 20:17pm on a friday.
Sitting on the counter.
Shirtless.
“…What are you doing here?”
“Uh.. I live here? I should be the one asking you that,” he motioned the spoon in your direction.
“Eddie, it’s 20pm on a friday,”
“Actually, it’s 20:17pm on a friday”
Yeah you weren’t doing this tonight.
“Fine, whatever.”
“Hey, what’s that?” His tone was softer, he always knew when you had a bad day.
And good ones too. And any kind of day you have had and exactly how he should react to it.
“Just… Pierce screamed at me again,” his eyes followed you as you took the wine glass out of the fridge.
“So… She did her job cause you weren’t doing yours…”
“Try again,” you poured a glass.
“She’s just a bitch who can’t let you do your work without complaining about whatever shit she caused”
“Bingo!” You swallowed the whole wine in one go, watching through the glass as Eddie’s hand reached for it and took it from you, “no no no, this will not help you.”
“And what will? Being dumped by a freshman college girl and Ice cream?”
He gave you a disappointed look but reached for your hands anyway, “come here,” he pulled you to his body, arms embracing you while you positioned yourself in between his legs, head resting on his chest and arms around his waist.
“You know what you really need?” His words were muffled on the top of your head.
“Hm?”
“To shut the fuck up”
“You shut the fuck up” now your words were muffled on his chest.
“I know you don’t mean it. You love me.”
“Sure”
And actually you sure as hell did. And he loved you too. When were you going to admit it to each other?
Probably never.

The smell of sugar and roasted beans were thick in the air. The establishment was packed with people. It wasn’t the usual cafe Matt and Foggy would go to. No, the cheap coffee truck on the way to the campus or perhaps the vending machine by their Advanced Constitutional Law class would do to grab a cup of americano from, but today isn’t one of those days.
Today is one of those days when Foggy would drag him to the other side of the city just to pick up some special sandwich that would guarantee a forgiveness pass from Marci. Today is one of those days when Foggy would pay for his americano, only to forget his wallet by the bedside table. Today is one of those days when Foggy would have to make another promise to pay for his meal as the blonde had to bail and run to give Marci her sandwich.
Now Matt, ever the understanding friend, certainly paid no mind with all of the troubles Foggy dragged him into this morning. He figured he could use the long way to his classes this morning. To try and see what exactly is on the other side of the campus when the sun is still out. When he was in his normal clothes and not hunting robbers. When he could actually be Matt Murdock and not the Daredevil.
But now standing by the side aisle to pick up his order, Matt knew that the lady who was too busy arguing on the phone with who seems to be a disastrous ex-husband, accidentally picked up his americano and left him with what smells to be a matcha latte with twice if not thrice the normal sugar level.
Matt’s lips pout a little. He’s certainly not in the mood to jump start his day with a lethal dose of diabetes, but Foggy’s left minutes ago and he couldn’t just call the barista to exchange his order without actually tasting the beverage. What excuse would he give? That he could smell that the drink in his hand isn’t what he ordered?
“Hi, sorry,” A voice of salvation echoes from his right. A woman who’s now approaching him with a gentle voice greets. Matt could taste the uncertainty in her tone, how her heart beats a little awkwardly as if she wasn’t sure if she was doing the right thing yet she does it anyway “I’m really sorry to be coming off as a creep like this, but I don’t think that’s your order.”
“No?” Matt asks with a raised eyebrow.
“No, I think the lady before you mistook your order.” She explained, taking the cup away from his hand “I overheard your order with your friend earlier, I was queueing behind you. You ordered an americano, right? This is a hot matcha.”
“Oh,” Matt says, feigning surprise “I wouldn’t have known.”
“Yeah.. Here, you can take my americano.” She offers, pushing her cup to his hand “I haven’t touched it or anything, I promise. It’s clean.”
“No, it’s fine I can just ask the barista—” Matt’s words were interrupted when his phone beeped, followed by the automatic reminder: his Conflict of Laws class starts in five minutes “Shit.”
“Yeah, just take it,” She insists “I’ll ask the barista to redo my order. It’s fine, really.”
“Thank you.” Matt says, accepting the warm cup at last “I appreciate it.”
“It’s no big deal.”
Matt wanted to prolong their conversation. She seems to be a genuinely kind person. Had he not been in a rush for being on the other side of the campus and having to come to class on time as Professor Barton would lock the door a second past nine, he would have stayed and continued talking to this one kind soul. At the very least, he would have asked for her name and asked if he could repay her kindness, perhaps with a slice of pizza and cold beer after class. But today isn’t one of those days.
Today is one of those days when he passed by someone he would wish he had more time to spare with. Today is one of those days when he met someone he would think of longer than the time he spent with said person. Today is one of those days when he hoped that he would meet her again.
—-
Her hair was dishevelled. She dares not to look at the time as it would only fuel her anxiety even worse. She planned to have her essays done before the clock strikes nine, but it has been hours since and she could barely call herself half way there.
The bigger side of the library has now turned dark. Students have retreated back to their bedrooms or have found themselves better things to waste the night with. It was Friday, afterall. Most wouldn’t even think of stepping their foot inside for the night, yet here she is, trying her best to stay afloat on the ocean of assignments that she’s evidently drowning in.
But when she was ready to take the consolation prize for being the most pathetic student of the year, a boy took the seat in front of her. He took out the things from his bag—several heavy textbooks and a laptop—as he tried to find comfort on the table, completely oblivious to her presence.
It was that boy. The boy she helped the other day in the cafe. Well, the word help would certainly be an overstatement as she only pointed out that he was holding the wrong order and offered hers in replacement, but she had a slight nervousness in her bones as she felt it was overstepping of her when she offered the proposal, so thinking that she was helping him feels a little rewarding and helped soothe her nerves a little.
She silently stares at him as he continues his work. His fingers trace the braille on his textbooks, mouth slightly moving as he tries to read the passages. The boy was beautiful to say the least. Like a beautiful painting you wouldn’t grow bored of even after hours of staring. The soft light of the library was hitting his face in all the right directions, enhancing his features that truthfully need no betterment yet it accentuates his beauty nonetheless.
Five if not fifteen minutes after her staring, she realises that she has to make her presence known. She wouldn’t want him to be startled if she makes any noises or movements, or worse makes him feel unsafe by her stealthy actions. The last thing she would want is to make him feel like she was a threat instead of a friend.
She taps on the table lightly, catching his attention, “Uh, I just want to let you know that you’re not alone at this table.”
“Oh, right,” The boy answers “Should I move?”
“No, no! I just wanted to let you know, that’s all. Please don’t move.” She says fast.
The boy’s lips curved into a smile but his brows knitted, “I’m sorry, have we met before? You sound familiar.”
“Uh, yeah, I’m the girl from the cafe,” She says, the same uncertainty lacing her tone “I swear I’m not trying to stalk you or anything. I just happen to be in the same place you are for some reason.”
“I never thought of you as one,” The boy says with a smile “I’m Matt, by the way.”
She tells him her name.
Matt whispers her name, letting it roll on his tongue like it’s going to settle for a long time there, “I don’t mean to be rude, but what are you doing in a library on a Friday?”
“The same reason as you have, I’m sure.” She says with a sigh, not wanting to elaborate “What major are you taking?”
“Law, you?”
“International Affairs.” She answered, biting on her pencil as she judged him “Law, huh? Well, aren’t you a smarty pants.”
Matt chuckles.
Her heart skipped a beat.
Stupid heart.
“Listen,” Matt says after a visible nervous lick of his lips “I hope this isn’t too straight forward, but I really appreciate what you did the other day, and I figured I owe you some form of gratitude, so I was wondering if.. You’d be free some time soon? Maybe this weekend? We can grab some food and sit by the park or do whatever it is you find amusing.”
Her smile grows, “Are you asking me for a date?”
“No, I’m showing you my gratitude,” He argues “But masked as a date, yes.”
It was practically impossible for her to bite down her grin by now. Eternally grateful that most of the lights in the library are out and that he couldn’t see the stupid smile on her face. She was sure that her cheeks were red and that her eyes were as big as puppy’s with how charming Matt is. Exactly how more perfect can the man sitting in front of her be? Beautiful face, delightful talking, and certainly a brilliant mind. At this point he could either be her knight in shining armour or a complete psychopath, no in between.
“So.. Would you have any free time?”
“How’s next week? Friday?”
Matt nods, smiling softly, “Friday it is.”
—-
Days leading up to the date passed as slow as it could get, even when they were spent by meeting her at the library before his night patrols. Matt knew that it was practically wrong of him to insert himself in her life. To come uninvited to her table that night, acting as if he didn’t know it was her nor did he not know of her presence, but in his defence, he didn’t deliberately plan to meet her. It only so happened that he finished his nightly patrol quickly that night and that she was in the library when he initially wanted to spend the rest of the night finishing his paperworks.
At that moment, he thought that God was aligning their stars. It wasn’t everyday that he had the urge to finish patrol early. It wasn’t everynight that he wanted to spend the rest of the night in the library. It certainly wasn’t every Friday that he would find her there. In fact, he couldn’t recall if she’s ever been to the library before. He would’ve caught the familiarity of her scent at the cafe if she was a regular there.
Though Matt knew that he couldn’t offer much to her, not his full time nor attention as they’re both reserved to keeping Hell’s Kitchen a little safer each night, Matt was willing to give everything he has left to get to know her better. It wasn’t everyday he could meet someone who would treat her with kindness that is pacifying without any hint of humiliation. She knows just the right amount of care to show without having to walk on eggshells around him and that’s something Matt very much appreciates.
All of it felt like it was meant to be. That he was meant to get that wrong order and that she was to intervene and rescue him from that God awful latte. It felt like he was meant to go to the library that night and meet her once again. And it certainly felt like their date tonight was meant to happen.
“Oh, this is gold,” She moans as she takes another bite of their pizza.
Matt smiles, satisfied to hear her blissful commentary, “It’s good, isn’t it?”
“The best,” She says shortly. There was a sudden silence from her and Matt wonders if something had happened but she quickly speaks “Uh, you’ve got.. Um, you’ve got some sauce on your lips.”
“Yeah?” Matt asks, his free hand wiping the sides of his lips.
“It’s still there. I think it’s dried a little,” She says, that hint of uncertainty reappearing in her voice “Can I just?”
“Yeah, go for it.”
And she wipes the corner of his lips gently. The warmth of his skin was in contrast to the cold wind that gushed their way and it only amplified the butterflies in her stomach as their skin made contact. Supposed he felt the unexpected jolt of electricity too because his jaw tenses a little before he lets out a sigh when she finishes wiping his lips.
“Thanks.” Matt whispers with a smile.
She didn’t say a word, only humming a little to show response.
Had Matt not have his heightened senses, he would have thought that something wrong happened but he could hear the not-so-steady beat of her heart and how her body heat rises a little. She was just nervous, just as much, if not less erratic than he is. If only she could feel his heart and hear just how loudly it’s beating right now, acting as if it’s trying to burst forth his ribcage, she would perhaps feel a little less agitated.
It was too soon to say, but Matt couldn’t ignore all the blissful connections they’ve shared. He felt as if he’s finally met his match. The knot to his strings, the solace to his rage. He knew that there’s still so many layers of himself that he’s yet to show her, the sides of Matt Murdock and Daredevil that he’s yet to expose to her, but for reasons he couldn’t explain, he felt like he could take his time and savour the moment as it unfolds.
A little egoistic of him, but what exactly can he do at the time?
“This is great,” She says, breaking his train of thought “I very much enjoyed tonight.”
“Oh no, are we reaching the end of the night?”
“No,” She chuckles, shaking her head “I just wanted to say it, just in case I forget to and you wonder if I’m having a great time or not.”
Matt grins, his heart swells in pride and joy, “I’m having a great time, too.”
The night passes far too fast for either of their liking. There seems to be a never ending topic for the both of them to discuss. From the major they’re taking, their roommates, down to how honking your car is illegal here in New York, everything feels like an interesting subject to dissect. Like an overflowing flow of soft ripples that hit your ankles on the beach shore. Soothing and intriguing at the same time.
Both their feet now carry them around the city, directionless yet certainly not lost. She was clutching on his arm, trying to make sure that he wouldn’t trip as they walked through the park and around the neighbourhood. For most it would certainly be the most bland date as neither of them knew where to go nor what to do, but neither of them had any complaints. It was perfect as it is.
Until it wasn’t.
Matt could feel the sudden spike of her heartbeat. Whoever it is that’s standing by the porch, whoever’s house party it is that they stumbled upon, she certainly didn’t have any intention to join nor stopped by at it, yet from the sweat that’s starting to build on her skin, he knew that she has to.
“About time you appear!” Some girl yells, clearly directed at her.
“Shoot,” She mutters, sounding like she was caught red handed over some crime he wasn’t sure about “She’s going to have my head on a spike for this one.”
“Is everything okay?” Matt asks, his brows knitted in confusion.
“Yeah, it’s just my friend’s birthday and I— Fuck,” She curses, running a hand through her hair “I completely forgot it’s today.”
Matt forces a smile, “It’s fine, we can call it a night.”
“No, I’ll be right back,” She whispers to him, squeezing his arm a little before she jogs a little to the group of people on the porch.
“Oh, you’re in so much trouble,” One of the girls says as she approaches them “Gaby’s been asking for you for hours! Your phone’s dead, we couldn’t reach you—,”
“I know, I know, I’m sorry,” She apologises, she was honest with her apology, Matt could hear it in her heartbeat “I completely forgot about her birthday party, and I double booked tonight, and I just—”
“So you chose to bail on your best friend's birthday instead?” Her friend argues.
“I mean, he’s cute, I would totally bail on Gaby’s birthday too,” Her other friend commented, making Matt smile a little “Who’s he? I didn’t know you’re seeing someone.”
“I— It’s a long story, okay? I’ll tell you guys later,” She frantically says, trying to save herself from the wrath of her friends “I’ll call it a night with him. Please don’t tell Gaby that I forgot about her birthday, okay? Just tell her I overslept or something.”
Matt bites the inner of his cheek. One of the downplay of hearing every and each conversation others have is knowing what’s to come before it actually hits you. Sure it might come as useful for certain times, but Matt was reluctant to bid his goodbye just yet. He wanted the night to last just a little bit longer, to feel her presence just a few hours longer and to walk around with her just a few miles further. Now it’s clear that he would have to scrape those desires off of his list.
“I am so so so sorry about this,” She says as she comes close to him, her words dripping with regret and guilt “I completely forgot about her birthday party and I just— God, we should’ve taken a left from that park.”
Matt chuckles, “We should have, yeah.”
“I’m really sorry,” She says once again “I’d invite you in but I don’t know how Gaby would react with me being four hours late to her birthday party and I really don’t want you to be trialled for it with me.”
“I understand, don’t worry about it.”
“God, I’m really the biggest arsehole there is, huh?”
“For now, yes,” Matt jests “But don’t worry about it. I had a great time.”
“I had a great time, too. Do you.. Do you know the way back?”
Matt nods, “I’ll manage.”
“Okay,” She smiles apologetically, clearly not wanting to part either yet her feet are already moving towards the house as her friends continue to call for her “I’m really sorry, Matt. I’ll make it up to you, I promise.”
Once again, Matt nods and smiles.
He turns his body away from the house, retracing his way back to the campus. Sure it wasn’t the most ideal way to end their date, he feels like he could and deserves to yell a bit to her friends for stealing her away from him ever so rudely like that, but he figures that he’s had his fair share of her tonight. He reminds himself that it was a Friday night. It was honestly a little too good to be true for someone as delightful as her to have her night free of dates and appointments, so to find out that she’s actually booked for a party is certainly not much of a surprise. Matt only wished that he didn’t know it the way he did.
They certainly should’ve taken a left from the park and avoided this neighbourhood altogether.
“Wait, Matt!”
Matt’s pace was put to a halt. He turns back to face the direction of her voice. He could hear her slight pants and the slight jog she made toward him. A small smile returned to his face, “Yes?”
“You surely didn’t think I’d let you go without a kiss, did you?” She asks, her breathing fickle from the short exercise “Or did you not want one?”
“I’d love one,” He says fast “Please.”
Matt’s grip on his cane tightened a little as she took a step closer. She places her arms around his shoulders and Matt swore he suddenly forgets what’s to do with his limbs. He wasn’t sure if he should put his hands on her waist or should he keep still. It was very much out of character for him. He’s had kisses before, had dates with plenty of other girls, but how is it that he has no idea how to act when it comes to her?
When their lips met, Matt swears that he could climb the Empire State Building with his bare hands. It was an uneventful kiss, certainly not the most creative that he’s ever had, but the electricity he felt was beyond compare. It was as if the kisses he’s had before were mere teasers to what it truly is. Like he was deprived of something he’s been so hungry from. Like he was deprived of her.
“I had a great time tonight,” She says as they part, sounding as if the kiss didn’t just flip her whole world upside down like it did to him “I’ll see you soon?”
“Tomorrow,” He promises “I’ll see you tomorrow.”
“Okay,” She agrees through her smile “Goodnight, Matt.”
“Goodnight.”
—-
She chews on her lower lip as if determined to make them bleed once again. Her eyes were glued to the clock, watching as it ticks with each second instead of averting her focus back to the papers on her table. Finishing her tasks prove to be a more challenging issue to tackle with each passing day.
Before she knew it, it was already Thursday. Matt promised to meet her the next day after their date, yet such a promise was never fulfilled. She figured that he might just have to do a rain check about their meeting, perhaps having some last minute task that he has to finish before the weekend ended, but even when Monday comes, he still was a no show.
Sorry, something happened. Will be in touch once it’s resolved. M
Now what should a girl do with such a short message?
Each day she would wake up early to go to the cafe where they first met and each noon when her classes were finished, she would try to run herself to the library, hoping that he would magically pop up out of nowhere like he did the very first night they met. Those efforts prove to be no avail as the expected man never bothered to make an entrance.
She wonders if their abrupt separation was what caused him to ghost her. She argues, the kiss they shared should’ve been enough to make him overlook the unpleasant farewell. It was much more than enough for her end, but could it be that it wasn’t the same for him? Could it be that he was more baffled about her last minute dick move that he decided to cut it off? Could it be that he’s had enough of her?
“Is this seat reserved?”
Her head perched up, excited to hear the familiar voice that she so missed about, “Unfortunately, yes. It’s been reserved for a week, actually.”
Matt shows an apologetic smile, “Is it still reserved?”
“Depends,” She teases, closing her laptop as she realises that there would be no work done for the rest of the night “If the culprit could explain and give a life-threatening excuse to save himself, I suppose he can still claim his reservation.”
“What if he could only offer an apology and say that he’s desperately sorry for being a douche?”
“No explanation?”
Matt hesitates, “No, none that he could disclose.”
“Not even a little?”
“I—,” Matt licks his bottom lip. It was a habit he does whenever he’s nervous, she notices. He takes the seat and rests his white cane on the side of the table. He looks troubled, like he’s trying to piece words in his mind that he’s not familiar with “Look, I.. I don’t exactly have any explanations to give you. I just.. I have been away. And I fear that I will have to be away for more times than I’d like in the future.”
She remains quiet, listening and watching as he tries to speak.
“I like you, a lot. We had the best date of my life last week, but I don’t think I have what you’re looking for,” He continues, looking conflicted and hurt with his own words “I just— I’m sorry, I really hope I could give more than what I have, but at the same time, I selfishly don’t want to lose you either so if we could just— If we could just be friends, I think I would like that very much.”
Matt could sense the piqued beating of her heart. The news he came to bear was certainly bitter, even more to him than her if he could only be so honest. But what happened earlier this week made him realise that he wasn’t in a position to be in a relationship with anyone. Especially not with someone who looks like she’s willing to go the extra mile for him.
It was supposed to be an easy rescue mission. Some petty robbery that happened on some dingy alley of Hell’s Kitchen that he expected to be settled an hour at most, only to turn out to be a complicated one as he came home with more bruises and wounds than he could count. He had to once again lie to Foggy and say that he was the one being robbed by a group of thugs in order to be able to go to their dorm room and sleep in. But as the lies roll off of his tongue, Matt realises that she would be another person he would have to lie to everytime he comes back bruised from a patrol. She would be another person he would have to deceive with excuses that never truly touch the truth. She would be another tally in his long list of people to ask forgiveness from.
And that’s something he doesn’t think he could live in for long.
So he figured to lock himself inside for a couple of days until his bruises heal. He refuses to meet her when he’s still littered with wounds he couldn’t explain to her about. Even when his finger itches to text her, even when his feet were begging him to let them carry him to the library, even when he was yearning for him more than ever, Matt has to hold himself within the walls of his dorm room that feels like they’re closing in with every passing day.
Now that he finally looks decent enough to go back to his classes, he finally gathered the guts to see and talk to her. There was a mix of bittersweet feelings when he sensed her sitting by their table alone. Relieved to know that she’s waiting, yet sorry that he has to come bearing bad news.
“I.. I don’t know what to say,” She says, blinking rapidly as she tries to digest his words “Are you in some kind of trouble, Matt? You can talk to me if you are. We can try and figure it out.”
“No, no, I’m fine,” He answers “It’s more of a.. Me thing. I just have to deal with some things first.”
She nods, feeling a hint of grief pooling in her heart, “I see.”
There was a pause. Neither have the slightest idea to go forward from this. Both clearly want to continue whatever it is they left off, but they’re truly on a stalemate here, aren’t they? What could she do when he’s asked her to let this go and stay as friends instead? What could he do when he wanted to have her close but only have just started to be the Daredevil? What could they do when they have so much to say yet so little to share?
“I’m really sorry,” Matt says instead.
“No, I understand,” She shakes her head, forcing a smile “Friends it is, then.”
And so it begins. The never ending loop of wasting each other’s time for the sake of wasting time. The never ending cycle of stealing a brush of the other’s hand under the table for the sake of accidental touches. The never ending series of pouring each others’ heart through the stories they share just for the sake of sharing. Always more than what friends do, but never less than what lovers should.

word count-466 words
Tumblr media
The morning light filtered through the cracks in the wooden walls, casting soft beams of sunshine across the small room you shared with Pert'ah. You sat near the window, absently running your fingers through your hair as you stared outside, watching the orc encampment slowly come to life. The sounds of heavy footsteps and gruff voices carried through the air, yet inside, it was quiet. Peaceful, even.
Pert'ah had left early, as he often did, to tend to his duties within the clan. You were still adjusting to this new life, far from the bustling human city you once called home. Every day, the walls of this small space pressed in on you, reminding you of the life you no longer had. You missed your freedom, your family—everything that was ripped away when your father traded you away like property.
The door creaked open, and Pert'ah’s heavy footsteps announced his return. You didn’t turn to face him right away, still trying to hold onto the small piece of yourself that refused to accept this situation. But you weren’t blind to the fact that he had never been cruel to you. In fact, despite his intimidating appearance and the circumstances of your union, Pert'ah had only ever shown you kindness—awkward, yes, but genuine.
“Good morning,” he said, his voice deep and gruff as usual, though there was a certain softness in it when he spoke to you.
“Morning,” you replied, your tone flat but polite.
Pert'ah lingered by the doorway for a moment, and you heard the faint rustle of something in his hands. You risked a glance over your shoulder, your curiosity getting the better of you. He stood there, holding something small in his large, calloused hands, his eyes fixed on it as if he were working up the courage to speak.
“I… I have something,” he mumbled, taking a few slow steps toward you. His broken English was always a bit halting, but he tried his best to communicate clearly with you. “For you.”
You turned to face him more fully, your eyes narrowing slightly. “What is it?”
Pert'ah hesitated, his thick fingers moving carefully as he extended a small object toward you. It gleamed faintly in the morning light—a hair charm, or perhaps a hairpiece, woven with intricate strands of silver and delicate beads that caught the sunlight. It looked almost too fragile for his hands to have crafted it.
“I made this,” he said quietly, his gaze shifting between the charm and your face. “For your hair. You… always touch it. Thought you would like something… special.”
You stared at the charm for a moment, unsure of how to respond. It was beautiful, finely made, and obviously took time and care to create. You never imagined that he would notice something so small—how you always fiddled with your hair, especially when you were anxious. The thought of him watching you so closely unsettled you, but the sincerity in his eyes tempered the discomfort.
“I don’t know what to say,” you murmured, still processing the gesture. “Why did you make this for me?”
Pert'ah’s brow furrowed, his tusks jutting out slightly as he thought carefully about his words. “You… are part of my life now. I want you feel… more at ease here. This place, not easy for you. I know.” His voice was quiet, almost apologetic. “I thought… maybe this could help.”
Your fingers trembled as you reached out to take the charm from his hands. The metal was cool against your skin, the beads glinting softly. It was clear how much effort he had put into it, each detail meticulously crafted. You had never been given something so personal before, and the weight of that realization settled heavily in your chest.
“You made this… just for me?” you asked, your voice barely above a whisper.
He nodded, his gaze softening. “Yes. Only for you.”
For a moment, you were speechless. You had spent so long building up walls between yourself and him, refusing to let him in, but this gesture—this simple, heartfelt gift—chipped away at those walls just a little. You could see now that Pert'ah wasn’t just your captor, wasn’t just the orc who had taken you from your old life. He was trying, in his own way, to make this new life bearable for you. Perhaps even… a little more.
Wordlessly, you turned the charm over in your hands, studying the way the silver strands twisted together in an intricate pattern. Then, slowly, you lifted it toward your hair, unsure of how to put it in place. Pert'ah noticed your hesitation and stepped closer, his massive hands surprisingly gentle as he reached toward you.
“May I?” he asked softly, his eyes meeting yours for permission.
You swallowed hard, your heart thudding in your chest as you nodded. He moved carefully, his fingers brushing against your hair as he slipped the charm into place. The warmth of his touch sent a shiver down your spine, but you didn’t pull away. His movements were slow, almost reverent, as if he were afraid to hurt you.
“There,” he murmured, stepping back to admire his handiwork. “It looks… beautiful.”
You reached up to touch the charm, your fingers grazing the beads that now sat neatly in your hair. A strange, unfamiliar warmth blossomed in your chest at the compliment, at the realization that he had done something purely for you. You weren’t ready to forgive everything, or even accept your new life fully, but in this moment, you felt something shift between you.
“Thank you,” you whispered, meeting his gaze. “It’s… really beautiful. I appreciate it.”
Pert'ah’s face lit up, a small, relieved smile tugging at his lips. “I am glad.”
As he turned to leave the room, you sat back down by the window, your fingers gently playing with the hair charm. It wasn’t just a piece of jewelry—it was a symbol of something more. Maybe trust. Maybe a new beginning.
Whatever it was, you couldn’t deny that it mattered.

III.
it was ten in the morning, and the sunlight was beaming down from my curtains. I had woken up from my slumber after a wild night that I had with Josh; I've seen him sleeping on his stomach, snoring loudly.
I played in his mullet, which was a mess, as I saw him shifting in his sleep while I went towards the bathroom to take a shower to soothe my body.
As I was in the shower letting the warm water hit my body a sigh of relief came out of my mouth, I wasn't expecting to get my back blown out by this man last night he was so rough and dominant with it something that Malakai didn't have in that department.
I heard the bathroom open knowing that it was Josh coming in probably looking me, but I didn't really pay attention to it.
I felt the cold breeze as the curtains were open turning around seeing Josh standing there looking at me as I smiled at him.
"I was looking for you." Jey said.
"I figured you were c'mon, boy, you are getting me cold." I said as he came in the shower behind me while closing the shower curtains.
"My fault, mama." He had wrapped his arms around my waist nuzzling his neck onto my shoulder kissing me on the cheek.
I just smiled at him as him and I showered together I shared my body wash and stuff with him since he didn't bring any masculine body wash.
We were in the shower longer than expected due to us having a make out session in the shower since he couldn't control himself around me then end up taking pictures together in the bathroom.

I chuckled at Bianca's reply to my story, knowing that she was probably downstairs watching it right now, but we both walked inside my room, drying ourselves off.
I've seen Josh with the towel wrapped around his waist, looking all good with his hair all wet, making me want to pounce on him so fast.
But he threw on the clothes he had on yesterday as he watched me put on some clothes since I had a few clients that needed their nails done for today.
"What'chu got plan for today mama?" Jey asked me.
"Well, I got a few clients today that need their nails done for like a special occasion that they're having after that I'm probably going to go to the mall to get me something." I said while fixing my hair in the mirror as I've seen him walking up to me.
"Mhm, you tryna spend the night tonight with me?" I turned around while staring up at him as he was gazing down at me.
'He wants me to spend the night? Ova at his crib? Wait until Bianca here's about this.'
"sure ion mind spending the night in your home." He nodded his head while grabbing my chin to give me a few kisses on the lips.
"Ight then pretty lady I'll see you later then." He was about to head out but I stopped him in his tracks as he looked down at me.
"What's up mama?"
"Don't you wanna take you some breakfast to eat before you leave?" I asked him as he nodded his head yes.
"Hell yeah, girl, I be starving in that bitch man."
I just laughed at him as we both went downstairs together so I could fix breakfast for everyone, including him.
✧.* OMNISCIENT Tiana was doing her friend Emma's nails for today since they needed to catch up with a lot of things that's been happening in their lives including Tiana's of course.
As they were gossiping about their lives Tiana's phone started to buzz as she seen the caller ID but couldn't recognize the number but it had clicked to her that it was Malakai calling her.
"Is that Kai?" Emma asked.
"Yeah it's his ass again girl, ion know what imma do."Tiana said while painting her nails.
"Girl ask ya new man he look like he could fight."She just chuckled at her response, Josh is really dominant and strong so he'll probably be able to punch Malakai's head off.
Her phone rang again, but this time it was a FaceTime call from Josh, so of course, she picked it up.
FACETIME Jey: hey mamas what'chu doing right now? Tiana: I'm doing my friend Emma's nails she's my last client for today why? Jey: I wanted to see if I could come get you early from work today since you staying at my crib for tonight. Tiana: I mean I have my own car but you can just pick me up at my house. Jey: ight then mama.
FACETIME CALL ENDED.
"Ouuu you spending the night at your mans house girl." She said as a hit her in her arm.
Tiana was cheesing like a mother fucker like this man got her hooked and attached to him; meanwhile, we aren't a couple.
"Shut up Emma, you're making me blush bro."Tiana said as we continued to laugh together.
She saw a car pull up in the parking lot. She thought it was Josh coming to visit, but when I saw the body figure, she already knew it was going to be some shit.
Malakai came in there all furious as her and Emma looked at him.
"Oh, what's good Kai." Emma said.
"What's up Em, I need to speak to you Tiana like now?" Malakai said sternly as Tiana scoffed at him.
"Nigga anything you need to say you can say it in front of Em." She said while multitasking.
she noticed that he had a frustrated expression on his face wondering how is he going to be manipulate her this time around since he don't like the fact that she moved on from him.
"Who the fuck this dude huh? Tiana?" He asked as he showed her a picture of her and Josh together.
She just rolled her eyes at him, "what? Are you jealous or sum' about me moving while being happy with someone that isn't yo' ass Kai?"
"Like why are you still stuck on me when YOU fucked up by fucking ol' girl." Tiana continued as he stood there.
"Mane fuck allat' shi I apologize didn't I? So that means we are still together." He said as she snicker at him this man is delusional.
"An apology comes with accountability and actions dummy and you did none of that, you literally proved my point." She argued back while curing Emma's nails in the curing light.
"Whatever Tink, where's your supposed to be man at or is he imaginary?" 'This goofball right here, bro. He can't be serious, right?'
"He's at work right now I mean I can FaceTime him real quick so you can see what he looks like since you think he ain't real." Tiana said as she pulled out her phone while calling Josh on FaceTime call.
FACETIME Jey: what's up mamas? Tiana: Josh, somebody wanna see you because they don't think you aren't real Jey: who?
She turned her camera around on the FaceTime call showing Josh her ex Malakai she could sense that Josh's eyebrows were furrowed up a bit.
Jey: is that yo' ex mama? Tiana: yeah that's him he said you wasn't real so I had to show him proof that you were. Jey: hm, give me a minute imma pull up real quick so he can see me in person seems like he gotta problem with me.
FACETIME CALL ENDED.
She placed her phone on the table, running her fingers through her hair, and looked at Malakai, who was staring down at her.
"Omg, tink I love my nails girl you get me right all the time." Emma said.
"Of course girl you know I got'chu." She said as she paid her the money while staying there probably she wanted to see who was her "new man" is.
After waiting for him to pull up we've seen his car pull up in the parking lot as he came out the car looking all good in his daily work clothes.
Jey opened the door seeing everyone staring at him as his eyes darted towards Tiana's way then to Malakai's way too, he ignored him as he came up to Tiana.
Scooping her up by her thighs as she wrapped her arms around his neck kissing him on the lips causing Malakai to be pissed at this.
"Is this supposed to be your "new man" T?" Malakai asked.
Before she could say anything, Jey had spoken, "Yeah, I'm the one that's rearranging her guts in real good while yo' ass is up here being delulu."
His voice sounded deep and raspy kinda turned Tiana on as she seen her ex trying to walk up on Jey but he stood his ground while looking at him.
Tumblr media
"Yo' ass might wanna back up." Jey said sternly while getting all close and personal with Malakai.
He could sense the fear that Malakai had, so he chuckled a bit before having a smirk on his face.
"What's with the smirk bum." Malakai taunted.
"Me? A bum? If I were so much of a bum, I would've been dressing like yo' goofy ass dawg." He retorted.
He looked towards Tiana's way as she looked at him with them deep deer eyes she had it just made him want her so badly.
"You can leave now Kai I got things to do and I'm not staying here to hear nun else you got to say." Tiana replied as she was beginning to sanitize her equipment.
"Nah you ain't goin' with this lame Tink." He warned her.
"She is, so get yo' ass off of her shit." Jey threatened while pushing him roughly.
Malakai threw his hands up, "fuck it, whatever but this ain't over Tiana."  Then he left the building all pissed off.
"Woah that was crazy." Emma said.
✧.* TIANA
After spilling the beans to Bianca about what had went down today at work she was livid but also happy that Josh came through before things got worse.
Meanwhile I was packing my bag with some clothes to wear at Josh's house since I am spending the night over there tonight that could give Bianca and Montez some privacy.
"Girl when is you and Joshua going to make it official chileee." She asked.
"I don't know it really all on him to make that decision, I already made up my mind." I said while shrugging my shoulders as I went towards my bathroom to grab my feminine products.
"I hate to say this buuuut, I TOLD YO' ASS." I rolled my eyes at her while throwing up the middle finger.
'She wasn't wrong. I was going to fold for this man. I mean, he takes care of me, loves on me, and he even listens to me, something that Malakai couldn't comprehend since he was too busy with his "rapper" career.'
'So yeah I'm attached to Josh but still keeping my guard up.'
"Yeah, yeah, all I hear is yapping B." I retorted as we saw a car pulling up, knowing that it was Jey.
"Well ya' man is here hurry up!" She said.
'Not her rushing me outta here bro like what?'
I made sure that I grabbed everything before leaving my bedroom to be greeted by Josh standing there waiting on me.
I walked up towards him, wrapping my arms around his neck, standing on my tippy toes, and giving him a peck on the lips.
"Hey, pretty mama you ready?" Jey asked.
"Yeah, I'm ready to leave." I said as he grabbed my bag while opening the door.
"Ight let's go then." He said as him and I walked out.
Until I heard her big ass mouth shouting, "HAVE FUN BESTIEEE BRING ME A NIECE HOME!" I wanted to bob her upside the head for saying that shit out loud while Jey found it amusing.
I got inside his car while putting my purse in front of me on the floor as I buckled my seatbelt waiting on him patiently.
He finally came in the car looking towards my direction as he turned on his ignition to his car while he back out of the driveway driving towards his house.
Him and I were listening to my playlist on the AUX cord as he pulled out a pre-roll blunt from his glove department giving it to me to light up since he was driving.
I lit it up and took some puffs out of it before passing it back towards his way, I loved this, this was something that I always wanted to do when I was with Kai but I'm doing everything that I wanted to do with Jey.
He's so different everything about him is different I just have to get to know him more and learn his past.
He passed me the blunt as I smoked some from it as I blew it out of my nose, feeling that sense of relief.
"I got a pool out back if you want to use it, ma." He said this while getting the blunt from me.
"Ouuu I would love to use it Josh." I said excitedly as he smiled at me.
We finally made it to his crib as I grabbed my purse while unbuckling my seatbelt when I got out of the car my mouth was wide open at the sight I am seeing.
His house was so modern and homey like, we went inside of his house seeing all of this aesthetic stuff in his home especially the color scheme of the house it just looks so good.
I noticed him placing my bag down while walking towards me.
"Welcome to my home, lil' mama." He said.
"It looks so beautiful, Josh. I love the color scheme and everything else that's in here." I complimented as he smiled at me showing his grills.
"Thank you mama."
"Lemme show you around." I nodded my head yes as I followed him around the house.
After he showed me around his house I noticed that he had a mini studio in his house I guess that's where he does his other tattoos at or whatever but I went upstairs towards the guest room to put my things in there and went to go change into my bathing suit.
I bought it recently for something like this because I knew he would have a pool out back so I'm glad I bought it he probably won't be able to take his hands off of me.
I looked a the mirror in the bathroom one last time before heading out towards the pool making sure I grab my phone and towel.
I walked downstairs seeing Jey already swimming in the pool looking all good so I walked towards the sliding door opening it which caught his attention as he trailed his eyes down onto me as I put my things down.
He licked his lips while looking at me deeply. I knew he wouldn't be able to control himself.
"Damn, mama, you look good as fuck." Jey complimented as I came inside the pool with him.
"Thank you Josh, you're handsome too very." I replied as I enjoyed the warmth of the pool.
He came swam towards me as he scooped me up by my thighs as I wrapped my legs around his torso keeping myself in place.
Jey started to place a few kisses onto my lips as we both looked at each other cheesing like little ass teenagers.
"Josh." I called for him.
"What's up mama?" He responded as we continued to look deeply into each other's eyes.
"I wanna know more about you and your past experiences if you don't mind me asking." I could read his expression that he was certain that he wanted to be open with me.
"I got'chu mamas, but I was in a toxic relationship with this girl I was dealing with at the time, and she would be on my ass about everything and was curious about my whereabouts when in reality I was at work trying to start a future for us but she had to ruin it by cheating on me with some lame so I just decided go focus on myself after that." He vented as I sat there listening to him.
Our stories were similar to each other, both of us dealing with a toxic ex that cheated and ruin the relationship so I can understand where he is coming from because it happened to me too.
I feel like with Jey I could find love again he probably feels the same way too I just don't know honestly.
"I understand where you're coming from because I've been through that with him." I reassured him as I was playing in his hair.
"With ol' boy?" He asked while rubbing my thighs with his hands.
"Yeah it was a pretty messy break up, his parents tried to convince me that he'd had changed but I ended up with the same result I stopped being friends with the girl that I was close with after that happened." I said.
He hummed as a response while rubbing his hands on both ends of my body, continuing to look up at me licking his lips.
'This man is making me blush so hard right now. God, why did you bring this fine specimen to me?'
I looked away for a second trying to keep my composure around him as I heard he chuckled softly while grabbing my chin making me look at him.
"Why you keep doing that?, do I make you that nervous?" He asked.
"Yes Josh you make me feel nervous every single time we are around each other." I confessed while looking down at him.
I saw him smirking while rubbing his beard, "hm, didn't know I had that effect on you mamas." I just rolled my eyes at him as me and him continued to swim in the pool together.
✧.*
I was in the kitchen cooking some dinner for the both of us as I felt him all up behind me with a blunt in his hands as he passed it to me while I grabbed it with my hand that I wasn't using and took a few puffs outta it before passing it back to him.
He gave my ass a little smack before heading back to the living room to play the game with the guys, I was cooking us some steak with mashed potatoes and asparagus I always will be thankful for my mother for teaching me this.
I'm so grateful that she is still around and dad too, hearing Jey screaming his ass off at his brother and his cousins because they were losing had me rolling.
He darted his eyes towards my direction while giving me a glare like 'nigga it's not my fault yo' ass is losing the damn game.'
I just smiled at him while focusing on cooking the food because I know that boy loves food fr.
I was done cooking dinner as I walked over to Jey with his plate as he looked down at it while smiling hard as hell.
"Damn, mamas, you can throw it down in the kitchen, I see." Jey said as he began eating his food I could tell that he loved it so much.
"Thank you Josh got it from my momma." I said as I sat down next to him while eating our dinner together until I heard his brother say something in the mic
"Uce, you gotta new shawty or sum dawg? that I didn't even know about? Or we didn't even know about.'
Jey was stuffing his mouth with food not even paying attention to his brother while I just looked at him and started snickering at him.
"yeah Uce, who's this shawty that's cooking you dinner I hope it ain't Kehlani ass."
'Kehlani? Was that his ex-girlfriend that he was talking to me about?'
Jey stopped eating for a moment and began speaking into the mic, "nah uce, it ain't her ass y'all will meet her soon ight now let me be im tryna eat."
'He wants me to meet his family? I hope they'll like me.'
After we ate dinner I was washing the dishes as I felt Jey wrapping his arms around my waist while kissing my shoulder.
I've seen turned around wrapping my arms around his neck while pulling him into a kiss knowing that he was still on the game with the guys and his mic wasn't muted.
He snake his hands away from my waist towards my ass giving it a good grip as he placed me onto the counter top never leaving my lips.
My hands were in his hair as our tongues were fighting for dominance against each other feeling him rubbing up against me until his brother said something.
"Aye uce, mute yo' mic we don't wanna hear allat'" we stopped having our make out session as we both chuckled a bit as he pecked me on the lips.
"We goin' finish this later mama ight?" He said as I nodded my head.
I went upstairs towards the guest bedroom as I turned on the tv and started watching baddies caribbean while scrolling through my socials.
I posted a pic of me in my bathing suit that I had on earlier and the food a made for dinner not to long ago.

I was laughing at the comments especially Jey's comment towards Kai I loved how he claimed me as his even though he hasn't said it yet but I'm waiting patiently for him to speak on that matter.
He probably wanna take things slow first which I can most definitely understand because I wanna do that too ion wanna move to fast with this.
As I was watching Tv I heard footsteps coming up the steps knowing that it was Josh coming up probably done playing the game with the guys but I just continued to watch my show as I heard the door opening seeing him peek his head out.
"What'chu doing in the guest bedroom mama?" Jey asked while shutting the door behind him.
"Oh, I didn't know if you wanted me in your space  so I just put my bags in here." I said as I felt him walking up towards me.
He placed his hands on his hips like a typical mom while looking down at me.
"Tiana, stop playin' with me and go in my room." He said as I listen to him.
I grabbed my bag and everything that I had a moved it over towards Jey's bedroom, his room look way more better than the guest bedroom as I sat my bag down and putting my feminine products in his bathroom while sitting on his bed turning on the Tv continuing to watch my show.
I gotten a text message from Bianca and from Kai once again I just sighed thinking to myself 'is he ever going to quit?'
Breezy: heyyy girl how's the sleep over going? Tiana: it's going good I'm having a good time here like Josh is so generous and caring. Breezy: I see that him and Kai were beefing under your comments girl Tiana: yeah speaking of him, he texted me again from a new number. Breezy: what? That nigga is so weird bro. Tiana: ik right like he seems bitter honestly.
Breezy: sounds like it fasho but I'll let you be girl I'll text you tmr. Tiana: kk bye bestie.
I sighed, thinking if I should leave his ass on read so I can get back to my show because I find it ironic how he believes we are still together.
Weirdo: Tiana idk wtf you and ol' boy got going on but it needs to end. Tiana: nigga fuck you, you heard him i don't belong to you anymore. Weirdo: stop playin' with me Tiana. Tiana: blocked.
I blocked his ass again not wanting to deal with his bullshit for tonight as I continue to watch my show on Jey's Tv, Malakai is just weird and obviously obsessed with me.

I was laughing while watching baddies caribbean seeing them fight was amusing to me, I heard the door opening seeing Jey coming in I didn't really pay attention to him as he closed the door behind him.
He placed his phone down on the dresser while coming towards me, and my eyes darted in his direction.
He hovered over me while holding my waist pinning me down on the bed as we both looked at each other.
"You done playing with the guys?" I asked as he started placing kisses on my neck.
"Mhm, you have all of my attention now ma, why don't you take these panties off so I can beat that pussy in." Jey purred as he was tugging on my shorts.
SMUT WARNING
I was on top of Josh holding his legs for support as I was riding him up and down on his dick as he watched while giving my ass a few slaps.
"Yeah, keep ridin' that shit mama." He praised.
"F-fuck J-Josh." I moaned while continuing to ride him.
As I kept riding him while my skin was slapping up against his legs I felt Josh pushed his dick further inside of me as I moaned loudly.
As my pussy was gripping onto him firmly as he threw his head back at the feeling.
"Fuck mama, keep gripping onto me like that." He moaned as he held onto my hips, guiding me to go faster. I was bouncing on his dick faster, causing me to feel pressure underneath me, "ouuuu fuck, this dick feels so good, Daddy." He smacked my ass while he pulled out, causing me to whine.
He bent me over as I was laying flat on my stomach while he put his dick back inside of my wetness while starting to pound into me.
I felt him gripping my ass as he was giving me good strokes from the back, making me look behind him seeing him move his hips into me.
He was biting the bottom of his lip while gazing down at me as he watched his dick go in and out of me.
"Mhmm, keep looking back at me, mama, with that pretty ass face." I was gripping the sheets right as he kept fucking me to the oblivion as my mind was seeing stars.
I had drool coming from my mouth that was running across my cheek as I rolled my eyes in the back of my head at the pleasure I was feeling now.
I felt the bed getting heavy as I saw him put his foot onto the bed while grabbing a whole load of my hair as he fucked me vigorously as I cried out.
"Ohhhh my goddddd Joshhhhh!" I cried out as I tried to place my hands onto his abs to slow him down.
But he pushed my hands away, thrusting into me harder as I mewled weakly, "Josh fuck..." every deep stroke he had, he gave it to you, making you feel every inch of him.
"Mhmm, don't run mama take this dick." He grunted as he trapped his lip between his teeth, gazing down at me.
As he was hitting my g-spot so good causing me to bite the bottom of my lip as he let go of my hair while my body collapsed onto the sheets as he kept going.
He slapped my ass while grunted, "arch that damn back and take this shit." He was fucking your shit up, making you feel lopsided as you were gasping for air.
I couldn't keep up with him as I felt defeated letting him do whatever he wanted do me as my mind went foggy, I felt a pit going down my stomach knowing that was I was finna cream on this man.
My walls were clenching onto him as he groaned in pleasure doing his worst to me he could sense that I was finna cum on him.
He didn't stop his pace as he was thrusting his hips deep inside of me knowing that he was hitting my spot good.
"Talk to me mama, I'm hitting that shit?"
"Yess daddy yess..." I moaned weakly as he slapped my ass seeing him all sweaty.
"This my pussy mama? Hm?" I couldn't comprehend what he was saying while he grabbed me by the throat pulling me up closer to his body as he kept thrusting deep inside of me.
"I'm not going to repeat myself mama, tell me that this is my pussy." He choke me firmly.
"Fuck yes, Daddy, this your pussy!" I felt his lips pressed onto my cheek.
He loved the sound of that and the way I looked right now all fucked up and miserable under him I  felt my legs tighten as I cried out loudly "fuckkkkk Josh I'm cumminggg!" Feeling my legs shaken as his thrusts were becoming sloppy.
I felt so weak and tired out from all of this as I held onto his neck for support as his movements were getting sloppier and sloppier every single thrust he was giving me.
"fuck mama, I'm finna bust." I heard him moan softly.
He kept his pace going pounding my shit, causing me to see stars as I rolled my eyes in the back of my head, trying to catch my breath with this man; he was making me feel over-simulated.
He gave it his all as he cursed under his breath while pulling out of me, "fuckkkkk mamass." he groaned as he came onto my back as I fell onto the sheets, feeling defeated.
SMUT OVER.
OMNISCIENT Jey and Tiana were breathing heavily as Jey went to go get a warm wet rag to clean Tiana's back as she lie there face in the sheets.
He threw their clothes into the dirty bin that was next to the dresser as he picked up Tiana placing her on the other side of the bed.
He pulled the sheets over her as he came crawled onto the bed while getting in the bedsheets with her pulling her closer to him.
Nuzzling his neck onto her shoulders as he kissed her on the cheek while drifting to sleep.
Under your Touch.

Moral Orel doesn't seem 100% like a show I'd feel seen in if you don't know me but then I remember the episode with the special ed kids and underneath the usual satire on extremist bible belt religion it reminds me WAY too much of how actual special ed departments treated me and other kids growing up.
Like the writers must HAVE BEEN THERE IN LIFE, man. I'd kill to sit down with Dino Stamatopoulos and find out what the fuck inspired him and the other writing staff that day.
#husbandothings#moral orel#bonus fun tag rant? bonus fun tag rant...apparently#in those departments you are immediately written off as a tragic forever toddler by at least 50% of the staff regardless of your disability#there's good ones but the bad ones bring the fun spicy trauma#it doesn't matter how smart you actually are you gotta draw the sad face on that boy on the comic sans worksheet at the age of 15#in your free lesson spaces that you got because of reasons#if someone tells me they're a teaching assistant or have “qualifications” in autism and special needs development i immediately distrust#because I have never met a neurotypical person with those qualifications who knows how to treat kids like humans especially autistic kids#funniest part? I was mostly in the special ed department because of my hearing and not totally my undiagnosed autism#and a little because of wonky emotional development from get this...a freaking religious school#like i see adults in the show and i see the headteacher who tried to tell my parents i should forgive the bullies because jesus would#even though the truth is way more nuanced but he just wanted to wash his hands of it#it's funnier than it should be because that teacher would fit right in to this show for that and additional reasons I won't state here#my family were atheists but thought the school would be good#the weird thing is at that time as a little kid I liked the idea of believing in god but nothing that happened proved Him to me#and moral orel hits because it resonates with the fact i genuinely believe religion can do good and it's all about the people#the ones who want to use that faith for good in the world and surviving rough crap and not to do things that would make jesus flip tables#that has stuck with me for over a decade as has the people who felt the show reinforced their christianity#but anyway

@piliyi, prompt —
go ahead. ask whatever you want. / tookai…
let it be said that tooru’s never claimed to be a guy who handles rejection well. most of the time it’s not enough of a reason to deter him from trying, but there’s always a little part of him that braces himself even in the asking.
so he’s hesitant, (he’s never done this before. he hasn’t even considered all the ways this could go wrong,) but. there’s something about kaien that makes him want to take that risk. it’s a kind of optimistic hope that he’s learned to let go of through the years, and it reaches back for him.
but first we have to set the scene. so, picture this: the air is warm with the scent of freshly baked pastries, the windows frosted over by the remnants of winter’s chill even as the beginnings of spring chases it away. kaien cuts a striking figure with his back resting casually against the counter, his grin piercing straight through tooru’s chest. tooru thinks he may look besotted, but he’s not in a position to judge — the glass display where his reflection sits isn’t what he’s paying attention to at the moment. it’s clichéd, perhaps, but in this snapshot of a moment he only has eyes for kaien.
“right,” he takes a deep breath. “no matter what, you’re not allowed to laugh, okay?”
and then, in the space of one single exhale, “willyougooutwithme?”

Hi can you do one where the hero is backed into a corner by villain's henchmen and the hero is begging them to stay away from them but they laughed and mocked them for they assumed it is cowardness and then the hero is being transformed into a werewolf, scaring the henchmen before killing them
(One of your list says that I have to pay for it specialized prompts or something and I'm not sure if this counts so ignore it if you don't want to)

“You seriously thought you could take on Villain?”
Henchman was scoffing, but he didn’t understand. Hero backing up might have looked like cowardice, but only she knew it was out of fear. Maybe the traits were similar, but Hero knew there was a difference, and she also knew the consequences of every progressing moment.
“Henchman, please.” She could feel the beginning aches- the cramps that would refuse to go away until she confronted them. Her feet, her calves, her thighs...she felt herself becoming heavier.
“If you’re begging me, I’d love to see what you would do for Villain.” Henchman was closing in.
“I’m ser-” A sting spiked in her lower back, against the spine. She gasped. “Leave. Get away from here.”
He laughed. He mocked. He didn’t understand the severity of-
Hero screamed. Another sting took over her hand; it felt like it was on fire. “Get out of here!” she screamed.
No matter how loudly she yelled, no matter how ear-piercing it was, it only encouraged Henchman’s taunts.
“Seriously?” he asked. “Don’t you have more dignity than this?”
How did she convince him? To say her bones were breaking, her muscles stretching- growing- was absurd. He would laugh in her face.
“I have to show Villain this.”
Her body was breaking, stretching, pushing the limits of any human body. What didn't Henchman understand? "You are going to regret staying here."
Another string of laughter rang through Hero's ears. It was making her angry. Her face was becoming red and she gritted her teeth. The fear, the care, the empathy- all the qualities which made Hero human- were starting to fade away.
Fade. It was more like a deer jumping in front of the car in the middle of the night- when the glint of its doe eyes were both too soon and too late.
His phone was out, the flash on. He was recording Hero in all her torment, all her screams and pleas.
Hero's gums were aching. She felt tempted. In just a minute, she could have Henchman ripped to shreds, and how worse off would the world be without him? No one would miss Henchman. In fact, people hated Henchman more than they hated Villain. Hero would be doing everyone a favor.
As Henchman continued laughing, Hero could only focus on her rage. Not only that; she justified it. She warned Henchman. She told him to get away so many times- even cried and screamed in front of him. He had every opportunity to leave, and he didn't take it, which meant his death would be on him.
Hero couldn't be sure when her mind went to skin, to blood, to murder.
In one moment, she was pleading for another man's life. In the next, she was taking it.
In one moment, her screams was all should hear. In the next, it was his.
In one moment, she was human. In the next, she was something entirely else.
