Yoooo! Fic authors self rec! When you get this, reply with your favorite five fics that you've written, then pass on to at least five other writers. Let’s spread the self-love 💚
Thank you to @darthfrodophantom for also tagging me in another post! :)
I have 69 (nice) works on AO3 so there was quite a lot to go through.
1. red in tooth and claw (that’s your fatal flaw)
Summary: Everyone finds out Wes was right in the worst way possible.
Reason: This was the first fic I wrote in phicphight ‘22, my first year of participating for the event. I remember loving writing this in the moment and beginning to flesh out Wes’ character in my style. It was the first time he had a main POV in my fics. It definitely took me out my comfort zone as I had to take Wes, someone who wants his discoveries to be known, and reduce him to this subdued bystander facing the realisation that although he did want to reveal Danny, he never thought it through or considered the impacts.
2. lie like a tombstone (yet secrets will bloom)
Summary: Valerie finds a body in the park thanks to some ghostly flowers, and she never would’ve guessed that it belonged to Phantom. Only, the context around his death sounds.. concerning. Because he died alone. And no one ever reported him missing. But that just barely scratches the surface of Phantom’s secrets.
Reason: This fic is so self indulgent it’s actually ridiculous. 35k+ (and ongoing) words of a corpse au and no one knows au mashup with me trying to keep the mystery up as long as possible. I’ve been working on it for two years now, it’s seen me through college, and who knows how long forever more. I appreciate this fic a lot, because it’s a massive motivator for me to keep writing and reminds me that I am capable of longfics outside of one-shots. The Val and Wes team up was unexpected when it began but honestly one of my fav combinations of characters to write. Of course it’s also a big favourite because it’s a corpse au ❤️🤌.
3. Mask
Summary: Danny never really took a minute to consider what he looked like in Phantom form. He didn’t need to, not really. It wasn’t as if he was scared of what was under the mask. No, not at all.
Reason: another self indulgent fic. It was Ectober 2021 and I saw this prompt and went “yup it’s danno has a HAZMAT hood time”. I loved writing the reveal scene in this the most, when the Fentons and Val realise that Phantom is just this kid with no evil intent (best genre of fics imo). Also the opportunity for a sequel is prevalent—although I’m unsure if I’ll go ahead with that. I put a lot of work trying to get the build up and reveal done smoothly.
4. Forest Fires
Summary: 1967. Nine-year-old Madeleine Walker watched her older brother Daniel Walker die in a lab accident. Years on, she’s certain that Danny Phantom is the ghost of her dead brother. But she’ll never know now, having thrown away the opportunity in a fleeting moment of anger. Meanwhile, a confused Danny sets out to uncover what happened to the uncle he didn’t even know existed. Only the truth is much more than just a simple lab accident.
Reason: although only one chapter and two prequel one-shots at the minute, this AU/series is something I’m very proud of. I’ve planned a lot out for it and I can’t wait to get all the mysteries set and unravelling. Maddie’s portrayal of character I feel satisfied with considering the turmoil over her brother and having to deal with Danny’s changing behaviour. Excited to get this one going again. Also love it because I get to include my OCs 😁.
5. beyond false pretences (we search in plain sight)
Summary: Danny Fenton disappeared without a trace. Soon after, his family followed. Five years on, Sam Manson is determined to figure out why.
Reason: This was my third phicphight fic in 2022 (I seemed to have really liked my fics that event 😆) and I saw the prompt and ran with it. I particularly love writing mystery and suspense so this was very fun to do. Unfortunately it’s not finished but I like what I’ve done so far. I loved putting the easter-eggs within the fic and seeing if readers could spot them. And it was great fun to see people theorising on what they thought had happened to Danny.
I’m going to tag: @jadenoryuu @kawaiijohn @dp-marvel94 @jackdaw-sprite @cleanlenins

ectober ficlets
Exhausted Teen to Eternal King (DP)
Essentially exiled from Amity after a reveal gone wrong, Danny is on his way to becoming High King of the Infinite Realms. With a quick stop by the Core, who tells him about being an Ancient and something concerning about how the portal works, Danny ‘survives’ his final trial and coronation with only like ten different new things to worry about! Anaktáomai: regain for oneself, recover (DPxDC)
Jason is trying to live his second chance at life to the fullest: protecting Gotham's streets as the Red Hood, going to college to get a degree, participating in Gotham's Renaissance Faire, getting a boyfriend, all of it. Sure, he's been daydreaming a lot more and it might be becoming a major problem and his boyfriend is apparently a meta who saved his kid brother after a mission gone wrong, but as far as he was concerned those were nothing to worry about. What he does need to worry about is homework and rogues attempting to kill him… right?
Take the L (DP)
Dash wants nothing more than to be a hero. When he gets a chance to be Phantom's hero for once, he takes it. Things get complicated when Dash finds out that his dad is Operative L of the GiW and demands that Dash hand over Phantom. Can Dash make things right or is everything doomed to go wrong?
Blobs of Love (DP)
Danny has been protecting Amity Park alone for what feels like years. After a long day of sleep deprivation and various rogues pushing him to his limit, he finally starts breaking down when he can't fully switch from Phantom to Fenton. Unfortunately, certain blobs who love him can't stand to see him break so bring in some help. Written for Ecto-Implosion '23.
Battle for the Ancient Realms (DP)
After having to go to the Far Frozen to check why his ghost sense is acting up, Danny finds himself the primary target during a fight with Dan and Pariah Dark. Things get more complicated when the Ancient Seals of the Barren Realms become involved. Now, Danny has to learn about the Ancients and the new powers these Seals provide the wearer before once again fighting the two hardest foes he's ever faced. Written for Ecto-Implosion '23.
Danny Doesn't Want To Go... (DP)
Five times someone drags Danny somewhere he didn't want to go and one time he drags them somewhere. Written for Phandom Truce '23.
Holding Each Other Back (DPxDC)
When the GIW appear in Gotham, Jason finds himself needing to find out what they are up to. Unfortunately, they find him first and use him as the nice sacrifice for their Ghost King summoning. Will Jason be able to fight his way out of this mess with his secrets (and life) in tact? Written for Ecto-Implosion '23.
I Know What You Are. You're (Not) a Goon. (DPxDC)
Jason can't figure out why his boyfriend keeps missing or being late to dates. He thinks that Danny is a goon, but it's only a theory. He might get his answers from the newest Justice League member Phantom, though. Written for Valentine's Core Exchange '24.

happy ectober!! i'm so excited to share my first piece of public writing with this silly story.
ectober day 2: technomancy @ectoberhaunt
thank you @redactedgoose for all the fabulous feedback and guidance on this <3
operation pookie
words: 4979
read it on AO3
a ghost attack in the park leaves Dash feeling like his world is crumbling, and there's only one person who can help him.
Dash sat on the curb outside the park, still trying to process the previous events. Everything was fine an hour ago. He was tossing a disc for his dog just like any other time he’d taken Pookie out for some playtime. They even had a playdate scheduled next Saturday with the dachshund that lived down the street.
He kicked at the gravel beneath his feet, shoulders slumped, streaks from dried tears marring his face. How could Dash fix this? He was just a seventeen year-old kid. There was no way he could stand up to an established (albeit corrupt) government organization.
He stood and turned, eyeing the remnants of the disaster in the park. Trees stood bent over and split and large craters decorated the once pristine grass. What he didn’t expect to see was a glowing figure carefully zipping around the scene of the crime. A sense of hope returned to Dash once he spotted his hero. If anyone knew what to do, it was Phantom. Dash sprinted over, yelling to get his attention.
“Phantom! Hey! Phantom!”
The ghostly hero flashed out of sight.
“Phantom, please,” Dash’s words trailed off as his speed slowed to a stop, then collapsed on the ground with his head in his hands. “Phantom, please, please, please,” he muttered, mostly to himself.
“Are-are you okay?” He heard a tinny, echoing voice ask. Dash peered through his fingers and saw before him the elusive Phantom, head cocked and eyes swirling with concern as he faced Dash.
Dash jumped up, the quick movement causing Phantom to back away.
“Wait!” He cried, then realized he needed to calm down or risk causing the ghost to disappear again. “Wait. I-I need your help Phantom. You’re the only one who can help me.”
Phantom said nothing, but didn’t leave either, which Dash took as a good sign. He motioned to the park before them - or what was left of it. What wasn’t destroyed was covered in green goo that the Ghost Investigation Ward had failed to clean.
“There was a ghost attack. The GIW came quicker than I’d ever seen them. They-they nuked it or something. It exploded and it contaminated the whole park. There weren’t many people around, but-but the green stuff, Pookie got into it. They took my dog away and I don’t know what they’re gonna do to him. Please. I need to get him back.”
Phantom stared, making Dash feel self-conscious, a feeling that was mostly foreign him these days. He felt pathetic, sobbing in front of his hero, literally begging him for help, as if his problems matched up to those of Phantom.
“They got your dog?” Phantom asked. Dash nodded slowly.
“I’m really sorry. That’s…hard,” the ghost said. He brought a gloved hand to his chin. “I think I remember where their closest headquarters are. I’m not sure if I can break through their anti-ghost defenses, but it’s worth checking out.”
Dash perked up. “Does that mean you can help me?”
“To the best of my ability, but I can’t promise anything,” Phantom said cautiously. “These guys have serious anti-ghost tech.”
“I’ll come with you!” Dash blurted before he could really think about what he was offering.
Instead of laughing at Dash’s dumb bravery, Phantom smiled reassuringly. “Thank you, but I have people who know a lot about this stuff. Your dog will be in good hands.”
“Right - Pookie’s my dog. I want to come,” Dash said firmly, surprising even himself for talking like that to Phantom. He took a deep breath, then added, “We’ve worked together in the past. I can do this. Please.”
The ghost stared him down. Dash felt like Phantom was piercing straight through to his soul, analyzing every fear and flaw, and although Dash felt the need to tag along, he hoped he didn’t give his underlying apprehension away.
Phantom then let out a dramatic sigh.
“I suppose you’re right.” He held out a hand to Dash. “Let’s go.”
Elated and anxious, Dash grabbed the hero’s hand and was hoisted into the air. Of course Dash had seen how Phantom held his own in battle, but he was still surprised by the seemingly effortless way the ghostly teen was able to carry him as though Dash- a 6 foot 3, 220 pound athlete- weighed nothing. Though he was shy to admit it, the sudden increase in elevation was a bit…much for Dash, not to mention the incredible speed at which they seemed to be traveling. The blur of buildings and roads below made Dash a little queasy, but he would rather throw his championship rings into the ocean than throw up on his hero.
The view below, or what Dash was able to process of it, changed from a cityscape to rolling hills and small forests. Just as Dash was about to doubt Phantom’s hunch, he felt the ghost stiffen, and began descending towards a wooded area. He placed Dash down carefully, which didn’t go unappreciated. Dash was going to need a moment.
“I can feel the ghost shield. It’s about a quarter mile ahead,” Phantom said, not seeming to notice Dash hunched over behind him. “I can’t enter with that thing functioning.”
He began walking towards where the building was supposed to be, and glanced back at Dash. “Stay close and stay hidden,” he ordered.
They eventually came upon a stark white, single level building. The two crouched behind some bushes and took in their surroundings. Dash could see the ghost shield in place, as Phantom had predicted, but the entrance was unguarded otherwise.
“I’m going to get a closer look. Stay here,” Phantom whispered, then disappeared from sight before Dash could protest. A minute passed, then two, leaving Dash feeling vulnerable and unsettled. A moment later, he noticed a soft glow coming from the foliage to the left. Phantom slowly emerged and waved Dash over.
“I found the control panel for the shield, up there on the roof.” Phantom pointed upwards, and Dash could see a small metal box expelling the anti-ghost matter. “If we can figure out how to deactivate it, I can phase us into the building.”
Dash held up a rock. “Will this work?”
“No offense, but I don’t think-”
Dash threw the rock.
Thank god for all his years of football, because his aim was perfect. The rock smashed the control panel and the shield fell.
“Wow. I can’t believe that worked,” Phantom said, almost sounding impressed. “Now let’s go before they realize it’s down!”
Phantom grabbed Dash’s wrist and a cold feeling washed over him. He held back a yelp as he realized he could see straight through where his body was supposed to be. Immediately he was flying forward towards the front doors, and Dash braced for impact in three, two…
One never came. He opened his eyes and found himself floating behind closed double doors. Ahead was a long, stark white hallway with doors leading all the way down on both sides.
“Okay, this might take some time before we find your dog,” whispered Phantom. “Just hold on.”
They flew through the first door to the right of them, which was just a simple office including a desk, computer, chairs, and a bookshelf - nothing you wouldn’t expect in a typical workplace, and nothing nefarious to be seen.
This was going to require some time, which wasn’t necessarily on their side.
They floated through the wall and into the adjacent room. This one looked like an interrogation room. It was split in half by a one-way window. Looking past it was a steel table, but instead of chairs and cuffs linked to the tabletop, metal clamps were soldered in as if to hold the subject down. Dash felt Phantom’s body vibrate in dissatisfaction before they continued.
Phantom led them through the remaining rooms in the hall, but they were all dead ends. A metal door led to another hall, which Phantom attempted to phase through, but the two bounced back when they made contact instead of seamlessly passing.
“Crap. Must be made with ectoranium,” Phantom grumbled.
“Can I just open it?” Dash asked.
“No, look. It’s locked with a keycard. We’ll have to wait until someone opens it.” Sure enough, a computer system was mounted on the wall next to the door.
Dash’s heart picked up. “We can’t just sit here! Who knows what kind of sick things they’re doing to Pookie!” He cried, voice trembling.
“Keep it down,” was Phantom’s response. “Let me think.”
They floated in silence for a moment, all the while Dash’s anxiety was increasing. Phantom drifted over towards the keycard entry, and though Dash couldn’t quite see him, he could guess the ghost was examining it.
“I’m going to put you down for a second. Don’t touch me until I say it’s safe,” he ordered.
Dash felt the cold sensation leave his body as he became a solid mass of boy once again, his feet planted firmly on the tiled floor. He stood with his back to the door, keeping an eye out for anyone coming down the hall.
Dash felt the hair on his neck stand up and turned back to the door. He watched a spark of lightning dance across the keycard reader, but instead of frying the system, it beeped a confirmation and the door slid open. Simultaneously, Phantom reappeared and dropped to the floor, clutching his stomach. Dash ran to his side.
“Hey, Phantom, I know you’re not doing too hot, but we gotta keep going before someone sees us,” Dash whispered, tugging the ghost up. Meanwhile, Dash’s mind was racing. He’d never seen the ghost kid use a power like that before, and it didn’t seem to follow the unnatural laws of the spectral world. But these were thoughts for another time.
“I’ll be- just give me a second. I’ll be good in a second,” Phantom muttered. Dash grunted and threw the other boy’s arm around his neck and carried him through the doorway. To the left was, luckily, a restroom, and Dash rushed them inside.
Once they were safe, Dash lifted Phantom onto the counter so he could slump against the mirror.
“Thanks.”
“Don’t mention it.”
The bathroom was silent while Dash let Phantom recover from whatever he’d just done. He didn’t want to rush him, but Dash could feel time running out. Pookie needed him.
As if he could sense Dash’s thoughts, Phantom grumbled and shimmied off the counter. Dash could tell his eyes looked a bit brighter than they had a moment ago, and the glow surrounding him was stronger.
Phantom gave Dash a nod and held out his hand. “Let’s go get him.”
Dash took a deep breath and allowed the sensation to overtake him again. It wasn’t so bad now that he knew what to expect. In fact, it was rather welcome compared to the fear of being seen he’d briefly experienced while Phantom opened the doors.
They zigzagged through the hall as they’d done previously, still to no avail. About halfway through, Phantom stopped.
“I hear something,” he said.
Dash silently waited for him to continue. When Phantom didn’t elaborate or move, Dash spoke up.
“What is it?”
“Shhh! I’m trying to listen! There’s voices.”
“What are they saying?”
“I can’t tell if you keep talking.”
Phantom’s tone shut Dash up.
Soon they were moving again, quicker this time. They flew into an empty room, and to Dash’s surprise, Phantom placed Dash down and dropped his own intangibility.
Phantom looked Dash dead in the eye and almost growled, “Stay. Here. I’ll be right back.”
The ghost flashed out of sight, leaving Dash in what looked to be another standard office layout. He sat down in a chair and nervously tapped his leg. Surely, something was wrong, if Phantom was acting like that.
His mind drifted. How many times had this happened to other people? How many beloved pets or even people had the GIW taken in? What kind of twisted things even occurred in this building that remained unknown to the public?
Dash felt sick.
He wasn’t sure how long Phantom had been gone, but it felt too long nonetheless. His eyes drifted across the unimpressive room. Nothing stood out - it lacked any kind of personalization or sign of use. There wasn’t even a book case for Dash to turn to to distract himself… although, the type of content the GIW would have would probably have the opposite of a calming effect.
“Dash, it’s me,” a disembodied voice whispered, then Phantom reappeared in front of Dash. If he’d found anything, his face didn’t give it away.
“I found Pookie-”
Dash shot up and grabbed Phantom. “Ok, let’s go then! Get us out of here!”
Phantom reeled back and pulled his hand out of Dash’s grasp, eyes glowing. “Wait! We need a plan.” He shook his wrist out. “And don’t ever grab me like that again.”
Dash’s face burned, immediately embarrassed. But he couldn’t help it - the stakes were high. Phantom must’ve also noticed the way Dash shrunk back, because he added, “I know this is important to you. Which is why we need to do this right, okay?”
Dash nodded, then sat back down.
“Like I was saying, I found your dog. And he’s okay. But, there are agents in there with him, and I could sense a lot of tech in that room designed to keep anything with spectral energy from coming in or out. I couldn’t even listen in too long before risking setting off a sensor.”
While the news of Pookie being alright was music to Dash’s ears, the security measures Phantom warned of filled him with dread.
“So what do we do?” Dash asked softly.
“Lucky for us, these guys are kinda idiots. All this tech is linked to the same power source. The panel is located in a control room next to the lab where they are. If we can disable that, our only problem should be the agents.”
Dash recalled the strange keycard reader. “What if the system is ghost-proof?”
Phantom turned away. “I can do it.”
“You don’t mean that trick you’ve been pulling that completely wipes you?”
Phantom flashed a glare at Dash, who promptly ignored it.
“How’s that supposed to help us? Isn’t that still a ghost power or whatever?” He asked.
“Trust me. It’ll work.” The temperature fell as he spoke, sending a chill up Dash’s spine.
Dash pursed his lips. Phantom hadn’t let him down thus far, and this weird power didn’t seem to conform to the normal rules. There was no reason not to trust him, other than the fact that Phantom seemed to be holding something back.
“What’s the plan?”
-----
Phantom flew them towards the control room, which luckily lacked any ghost security measures. Off to a good start.
The room was…intimidating. Various panels lined an entire wall, with glowing wires vibrating and connecting them together like bugs caught in a spiderweb. Dash, a human, could feel the energy being put out by this thing. He couldn’t imagine what it felt like to Phantom.
Phantom stepped forwards towards the wall, and static filled the air. He gave a nod to Dash, who was more afraid than he’d ever been.
But Pookie needed him.
Lightning crackled in Phantom’s palms and he surged forward, making contact with the elaborate system. Dash stood in awe as the electricity spread across the wall, causing the tech to go haywire. He almost forgot he was supposed to be storming the lab.
“DASH! GO!” Phantom yelled, his voice strained.
Dash came back to reality and booked it to the hallway, just missing a different flash of light, one that signified the line between life and death.
He was immediately met with an agent emerging from the lab, on his way to check why all the equipment was malfunctioning. Adrenaline coursing through him, Dash hurled an uppercut at Pookie’s kidnapper and ran through the doorway to the lab, locking the door behind him.
Two agents around a table looked up at his arrival. One held a needle in his hand that was directed towards the subject on the table.
The subject that was Pookie.
Dash surged forward, grabbed the needle from the agent, and kicked him in the groin. The strike sent him down. He turned to the other agent and thrust the needle into his neck, dispensing the mystery contents into the man. The skin began bubbling at the injection point and the affected agent bent over and began vomiting on the floor.
The other agent had recovered from Dash’s assault at this point, and rose back to his feet, then lunged at Dash.
Once again, Dash was grateful for his football experience that allowed him to quickly assess situations and think on his feet to overcome an opponent. He slammed into the agent and threw him towards the table. He spotted metal restraints welded onto the surface and grabbed the agent’s wrist, clasping the restraint around him.
Pookie bit the man’s hand as an extra measure.
Dash’s heart swelled at the sight of his dog before him. A gentle wag of his tail relayed Pookie’s relief at the sight of his owner. He seemed unharmed, although reasonably afraid. Dash grabbed his precious cargo and turned towards the door.
Where was Phantom?
The ghost was supposed to meet Dash in here after the anti-ghost security measures were down. With Pookie under his arm, Dash ran out of the lab and towards the control room where he’d left Phantom.
What he found was deeply unnerving.
The agent that Dash had initially run into had Phantom immobilized in anti-spectral handcuffs. He was slumped forward, with a nasty looking gash across his left cheek. Before Dash could react, Pookie lunged forward at the man, and sunk his teeth into the agent’s ankle. The man gasped out in surprise and began aggressively shaking his leg in an attempt to get the dog off of him. While he was distracted, Dash grabbed him by the neck and rushed him into the wall headfirst, promptly knocking the agent out.
Satisfied with his work, Dash turned to Phantom, kneeling next to him. He shook the ghost boy, eliciting a weak groan. Realizing he was still cuffed, Dash searched the agent’s suit for the keys. Succeeding in this, Dash proceeded to free Phantom, and closed eyes became half-lidded as Phantom struggled to meet Dash’s face.
“We need to get out of here, dude. Can you pull it together?” Dash asked urgently.
Phantom slowly peeled himself off the floor. “I can’t fly us out. Too weak.”
He doesn’t even look like he can walk, Dash thought. It looked like it was his turn to carry the team (literally). He scooped up Pookie and held him out to Phantom, who took him in his arms with a confused expression. Without further explanation, Dash grabbed the ghost bridal style and simply started running.
It seemed as though they hadn’t caused enough of a commotion to gain any attention, and with the front doors in sight, Dash thought they might actually make it out with no further obstacles.
Of course, he was wrong.
A group of agents burst out of a room in front of them, heavily armed. They must have been alerted after all and were on their way to check out the disturbance in the lab. Instead, they caught sight of Dash running off with their hostage and Public Ghost Enemy #1.
Weapons at the ready, they formed a wall blocking their only escape route. Dash slowed down, unsure of what to do.
“Stop right there, kid. Surrender the ghosts and you can leave with no questions asked.”
Fury filled Dash’s veins. They’d come so close, and he was not about to let them put their hands on his dog. Never again.
“Wait,” Phantom whispered, stopping Dash from whatever stupid thing he was about to do. “Put me down.”
“Phantom-”
“Put me down, Dash.”
Reluctantly, Dash released his hold on Phantom, who stood shakily in between him and the wall of agents.
“Cover your ears,” he whispered.
The cry that Phantom released was something that would be forever cemented in Dash’s mind. It echoed and pierced; it was filled with a kind of pain that Dash never knew existed until this moment. He watched the weapons fall to the floor, sparking out of control. The agents followed suit, covering their ears in an attempt to filter out the incredible wail destroying their eardrums.
Phantom fell forward, and Dash acted on instinct. With Pookie under his arm, he somehow hoisted Phantom over his other shoulder and pushed through to finally escape out the front door. He didn’t stop running when the agents yelled after him. He didn’t stop running when his peripheral caught a bright flash of light from where he held Phantom. He didn’t stop running even when he thought his lungs were about to burst.
Dash finally stopped when he found a covered area, thick enough to hide themselves from any agents who had managed to follow them out. He dropped his companions and allowed himself to fall onto his back, eyes closed, attempting to regain control of his heart rate. A soft weight made itself known on his chest, and Dash gently placed a hand on his pup.
For how long he laid there, Dash didn’t know. A soft groan reminded him that he was not alone, and oh my god was Phantom okay?
Dash’s eyes burst open and he sat up, gently removing Pookie from his chest. He looked to where he’d just laid Phantom, but something was wrong. A figure was on the ground, curled up with his back to Dash, right where Phantom should’ve been. And just as familiar as Dash was with the likes of Phantom, he knew this one equally well.
“Fenton?” He asked slowly, confusion fogging his brain.
Dash stood, walked over to the body on the ground, and gently rolled him onto his back. Sure enough, the face of Danny Fenton was revealed. Dash watched Danny’s chest rise and fall as he struggled to gather his own thoughts. The best he could do was sit and wait until the other boy regained consciousness.
It wasn’t long before blue eyes revealed themselves. Danny raised his head slightly, brows furrowed in confusion. He brought a hand towards his face, then closed his eyes again, head falling back to the ground.
“Fuck.”
Pookie wandered over and began licking Danny’s cheek, and he groaned in protest, but nonetheless brought a hand to Pookie’s head and began stroking the dog gently.
“Fenton-”
“No. Gimme like, two minutes to get my life together.”
Dash bit his tongue as he continued to watch Danny lay there. He took a seat on the ground and Pookie climbed into his lap. With a heavy sigh, Danny finally propped himself up, sitting upright, facing Dash, who now felt brave enough to start demanding answers.
“Where’s Phantom?” He demanded. “How did you get here?”
Of all things, Danny laughed. “Are you serious?”
If Dash had any remaining energy, he would’ve grabbed the punk and shoved him into a tree. But he was tired, physically and mentally.
“Yes, I’m serious.”
The smile disappeared from Danny’s face, and he tilted his head, thinking. Then the boy stood and the same flash of light Dash caught earlier lit up their area of the forest, then faded into a soft glow surrounding the newly appeared ghost boy.
Dash sat dumbfounded as Phantom walked towards him.
“Does that answer your question?” He asked.
“You-you possessed Fenton? Why?”
Phantom rolled his eyes. “No, Dash. I am Fenton. Phantom is me. I swear, if I knew you were this bad at putting two and two together, I would’ve at least tried to lie my way out of this one.”
“Phantom…and Fenton…with the same…what?!”
“It’s a long story that I’d rather not get into.”
Dash’s mind was reeling. None of it made sense. But they lived in Amity Park. Ghosts were a common pest. Their town had been plunged into an alternate reality. Dash supposed in the grand scheme of things, radical acceptance was the way to go.
“Ok. I believe you. But why did you help me?”
Danny smiled softly. “Why wouldn’t I?” He then brought his fingers to his mouth and let out a whistle. Seconds later, a portal spawned and spit out a small ghost. No, not a ghost. A dog. A ghost dog? Dash was confused.
The ghost-dog scampered over to Danny, jumping up on his legs, begging for attention. Danny bent down and the pup launched himself at the boy, knocking him onto his back.
“Easy boy!” He grabbed the ghost/dog/thing and sat back up. “This is Cujo.”
Now getting a better look, Dash recognized this particular ghost. Sure enough, he’d seen it-Cujo many times with Phantom. Danny placed Cujo down, who eagerly ran up to Dash. Pookie jumped out of Dash’s lap and the two dogs began excitedly playing together. Because Dash wasn’t that stupid, he was able to put two and two together this time.
“This is…your dog?”
“Yeah. Kinda.”
The boys watched the dogs play together in silence for a moment.
“Thanks for, uh, saving me back there,” Danny said quietly.
“Oh. Yeah. Least I could do.”
Another beat of silence.
“You won’t tell anyone, right?”
This time Dash looked away from Pookie and Cujo and up at Danny. His face was hollow, eyes dull. He looked like he’d lived and died a million lifetimes and kept the scars of each and every one of them.
“No,” Dash said, with as much conviction he could muster. He swore he could literally see the relief roll off of Danny.
“But…” Danny stiffened as Dash started to talk again. “I want to know one thing. What is that lightning trick? Why did it work against the anti-ghost stuff? I just- I don’t understand.”
Danny looked away. “It’s…complicated.”
“It also looked really painful. Which is why I don’t understand why you’d do something like that for me.” After all the shit I’ve pulled, he added mentally.
“I didn’t do it for you. I did it for Pookie. He didn’t deserve whatever twisted things they had planned.”
Dash pressed on. “Not that I’m ungrateful, but you’ve faced way larger enemies, and I’ve never seen you bust that one out.”
Danny sighed. “Didn’t have a lot of options. Pressed for time. Lots of anti-ghost stuff working against us. Pick a reason.”
“But why-”
“Jesus Dash!” Danny cried, throwing up his hands. “You really want to know? That power? It’s all the electricity that killed me. It wasn’t ectoplasmic like everything else that assaulted my body that day. It entered my body and never left. And it fucking kills a part of me every time I use it. It’s not a ghost power. It’s a reliving of my death.” He huffed. “But I’d use it 100 times to rescue Cujo if someone got their hands on him. Because he didn’t deserve it the first time, and hell if I’m going to let something happen to him again.”
Dash watched Pookie play, not quite sure how to respond to Danny. His dog and Cujo really weren’t all that different, he supposed. Neither were he and Fenton - both ready to sacrifice anything to save their beloved pets. An overwhelming feeling of gratitude came over Dash, and before he could think further, he rushed to Danny and pulled him tight to his chest.
“Thank you. Thank you so much.”
Danny was stiff in Dash’s arms, trapped in his hug, but eventually offered a pat to Dash’s back. “Yeah. You’re…welcome.”
Dash pulled away, wiping his eyes.
“Can we go home now?”
-----
Dash grabbed the leash from the hook by the front door. Pookie rushed over, tail wagging, knowing they were going somewhere and that in itself was exciting. He reached for another accessory, this one new. It was a harness that the Fenton’s had graciously engineered that acted similarly to the specter-deflectors made for humans. They’d also taken Pookie in to check on his ecto-contamination, which actually proved to be pretty minimal. After a week on some sort of supplement, his numbers were back down to zero.
They walked through the neighborhood down to the park. It was dark enough that most people would be home already, and the park lights made it so enough of the green was visible in the late hours.
A moment later a flash of green was bolting towards Dash. He intercepted and brought Cujo up to eye-level, laughing as the ghost-dog squirmed in the air. He put him down to say hi to Pookie and spotted Fenton-as-Phantom approaching. Dash gave him a nod. Danny smiled back.
“Thanks for setting this up. I’m glad he has a playmate now. It’s hard keeping him entertained by myself,” Danny said.
“I have a whole lot more to thank you for,” Dash replied. “But I hope this is okay for now.” He reached into his pocket and pulled out a small black bandana. On it was stitched words, “Mommy’s little boo” with two little embroidered ghosts. Dash held it out to Danny. “Found it at a Halloween store. Hope it’s not too cringey.”
If Danny thought so, Dash couldn’t tell, as a wide smile spread across his face. Dash watched as Danny ran off towards the dogs, the bandana gripped tightly in his hand.
“CUJO! Come here boy! Daddy has a present for you!”
Yarf!
“Cujo NO! That’s not for eating! Hey- hold still!”
Dash laughed to himself, as Pookie ran over, removing himself from the horror that was Phantom trying to put Cujo in his bandana. Dash gave him a pat on the head. Maybe this was something he could get used to.

Ectoberhaunt21 Master Post
Commentary Under the Cut
It has been supremely challenging and fun to do all of these prompts! I know I’m not a super prolific author and artist, but I really enjoy events like this. While it’s been hard on me to produce this sheer amount of content, it was engaging and active, giving me something to do and has motivated me to put out more content in a month than I would normally do in a year on my own. I also love seeing the improvement in my content from this year to last year, when I first took part in this event, along as throughout the event itself, I noticed improvement. While I might not have been able to fill all of the prompts I had planned to do, I also did much more than I originally planned as well, shooting to fill all of the prompts, both for each day. But with 29 fills, 3 of which have no prompt at all, instead inspired by other things throughout the event, I’m satisfied.
I’ve had so much fun throughout this entire event, from planning my fills, to the story line made up by the Ectoberhaunt crew, to drawing and writing my fills themselves. But of all of them, I do have some favorites.
I found my trend of horrible angst holds true, with some of my most severe fill, at least in my opinion, being Paved with Good Intentions. Vlad’s perspective of Danny’s grief was definitely something I found fun to write.
I noticed I used a lot of Outside, or limited perspective, especially with The Haunting of Amity Park, where you only get the perspective from the camera, so it ended up being mostly descriptions and dialog. The morticians perspective in A Way of Death was also amusing to write.
I tried out a lot of different art techniques this year as well. I messed with my style, bouncing back and forth between a more semi-realistic style and then a more cartoon-esque style for the more humorous fills, and then the simplistic style for a few other ones. I definitely think I’ve improved over the past month, just due to the sheer amount of art alone. The animations were fun themselves.
My ask box is always open if you want to talk to me about a particular piece.
See ya around!

ectoblastfromthepast fanfic review 2022
oh man this was a big writing year. i published more than double what the last eight years on ao3, and i've written probably about an extra 100k that i haven't/cant be published yet. dove into two big phandom events this year (phic phight and invisobang) and wrote almost 90k for each. got burnt out from those and struggled to finish the year strong, but was able to post some stuff in december anyway!
Fic Count: 42 new, 1 carried over Overall Word Count: 369,436 Fandoms: Danny Phantom, Wynonna Earp and Charmed (crossovers with DP), Percy Jackson, and Bones
1. totally worth it
Fandom: Percy Jackson Pairing: Percy/Annabeth (Percabeth) Rating: G Total Word Count: 171 words Completion Date: 03-09-2022 Notes: I wrote this when i was working on fluff practice for ghost light, and a friend of mine asked for this. first and only PJO fic so far, but it's cute and dumb and i like it a lot. this is the shortest thing i wrote this year!
2. it never hurt like this before (and now it's too late to lie)
Fandom: Bones (2005) Pairing: Temperance Brennan & Angela Montenegro Rating: G Total Word Count: 862 words Completion Date: 03-07-2022 Notes: Also a first and only for this fandom. Rewatched the show, and there's an episode where Bones, the MC, sees too much of herself in their case and it kinda fucks her up. She tells her partner, Booth, she loves him. But he's already in a relationship, so he gently turns her down. the episode ends with her leaving and crying, and i wanted her to have some catharsis. the idea stuck with me and i wrote it pretty much in one sitting.
Danny Phantom Works (under the cut because... well... y'all know lmao)
3. when you sneeze so hard you accidentally half-die in front of your boyfriend for the first time
Pairing: Danny Fenton/Mateo Aguilar (OC) Rating: G Total Word Count: 297 words Completion Date: 05-02-2022 Notes: I was in the midst of allergy season and i was very angry abt it so i took it out on my blorbos lmao my original end fic note: "but no literally im posting this waiting on my inhaler for my allergies by my entire state is trying to kill me. fuck kentucky, fuck maple trees in particular, and fuck myalgic encephalomyelitis 😭 there's so much pollen on my car 😭😭😭"
4. something's not quite right...
Pairing: None Rating: G Total Word Count: 501 words Completion Date: 10-04-2022 Notes: This is an Ectober prompt fill, and it fills in a chronological gap leading up to my invisobang. I had a lot of fun writing CW's pov and in present tense, something i don't do often.
5. second death by allergy attack
Pairing: None Rating: G Total Word Count: 1,024 words Completion Date: 10-22-2022 Notes: I promise i wasn't still having allergy issues by this point lmao this is an ancient wip i had that i started back in my early fandom days but never finished. the idea is gone, my notes are incomprehensible, so i cleaned it up and posted what i had! it's a non-au work, one of very few i posted this year
6. sin fransisco (dp x charmed)
Pairing: Danny Fenton/Mateo Aguilar Rating: Teen Total Word Count: 1,107 words Completion Date: Started 06-17-2022, WIP Notes: This fic I started bc I'd been toying with a Charmed/AU crossover for a while (still angling for a buffy one...) and the Charmed episode of the same title proved the perfect opportunity. had to figure shit out and it's been stalled in limbo as more important/deadline sensitive fics came to the forefront. I have another 2k written, but it's not ready for publishing
7. teach me how to fight
Pairing: Danny Fenton/Mateo Aguilar Rating: Teen Total Word Count: 1,206 words Completion Date: 10-05-2022 Notes: Another Ectober prompt fill, this one is a really cute fighting practice between Danny and Teo after the events of Invisobang. Surprisingly stayed very SFW, even though this could easily stray into NSFW territory lmao
8. love at first fight
Pairing: Danny Fenton/Danny Phantom (Pitch Pearl) Rating: G Total Word Count: 1,244 words Completion Date: 09-21-2022 Notes: This is a pitch pearl coffee shop enemies to lovers au that i started with Trance and Emeralds it has been SO MUCH FUN. i love this fic. this is the meet cute in the Perky Beans Cafe AU
9. the last night of sadness (it was clear he couldn't go on)
Pairing: None Rating: G Total Word Count: 1,441 words Completion Date: 10-06-2022 Notes: JOAN MY BELOVED i wrote this fic for Ectober, it's an outsider POV for my invisobang with an OC i created. she's a medium that isn't aware of that, and she and danny become friends later on. it's very good and emotional, and the writing style was a lot more fun to mess around with in something that wasn't majorly important to the AU but still fun to write
10. one... two... wait, how many are there?
Pairing: Danny Fenton/Mateo Aguilar Rating: G Total Word Count: 1,608 words Completion Date: 04-30-2022 Notes: PHIC PHIGHT BABEY. i woke up on the last day of phight with this idea in my head. it's little, and it's mostly just filler in around the series, but i love it so much. dan is babey
11. walk the white line at midnight (dp x wynonna earp)
Pairing: Danny Fenton/Danny Phantom (Pitch Pearl) Rating: G Total Word Count: 1,667 words Completion Date: 09-10-2022 Notes: another pitch pearl fic based on my favorite other show wynonna earp. danny is wynonna, and phantom is doc holliday. i want to do more with this au but it takes time to translate it and mix the two
12. you’re the best thing to happen to me
Pairing: Danny Fenton/Mateo Aguilar Rating: G Total Word Count: 1,780 words Completion Date: 11-22-2022 Notes: i wrote this as a tumblr prompt i think a year before i published this as fluff practice. then i realized i could actually make it fit properly in the au and brushed it off and dusted it up so it was suitable for the AU. it's very cute
13. hold onto me
Pairing: Danny Fenton/Mateo Aguilar Rating: G Total Word Count: 1,793 words Completion Date: 10-02-2022 Notes: this is a shiptember prompt and it was basically an excuse to write danny taking care of mateo. i write a lot of mateo taking care of danny, and i decided it was time to turn the tables.
14. with every sin, i still wanna be holy
Pairing: None Rating: G Total Word Count: 1,926 words Completion Date: 12-16-2022 Notes: This one is a set of notes, no actual prose, that Dan sends to the people he wants to make amends to. It also has pictures on the notes that I've drawn in addition to the writing
15. by all means i'm gettin' mad (that don't mean i don't feel sorry for you)
Pairing: None Rating: G Total Word Count: 2,288 words Completion Date: 10-10-2022 Notes: Another Dan fic, where Danny goes to talk to him about his sentence post-invisobang, and the tenuous relationship they start to build. I loved writing this one, I love Dan 💖
16. feed the boy (like and subscribe!)
Pairing: None Rating: G Total Word Count: 2,663 words Completion Date: 04-21-2022 Notes: Phic Phight! Danny has to eat fear, and they find a fun way to do it. Involves pranking Wes and teenage shenanigans, which are always the best
17. my resistance was once much stronger (i can't go on like this much longer)
Pairing: Danny Fenton/Mateo Aguilar Rating: G Total Word Count: 2,694 words Completion Date: Started 10-23-2022, WIP Notes: this is one of the last pieces for the "this is the road to ruin" arc, the last big one. i'm very very excited to finish this
18. heaven's grief brings hell's reign
Pairing: Danny Fenton/Mateo AguilarRating: T (eventually E) Total Word Count: 2,860 words Completion Date: Started 09-25-2022, WIP Notes: This fic has been fighting me forever, I wanted to finish it before the year was up but I did not. It's the smut. Soft smut is not my forte apparently
19. see the lightning in your eyes
Pairing: None Rating: G Total Word Count: 2,964 words Completion Date: 04-27-2022 Notes: a phic phight prompt i LOVE. lost time my beloved 💖
20. you better promise me i'll be back in time
Pairing: None Rating: G Total Word Count: 2,990 words Completion Date: Started 04-27-2022, WIP Notes: another phic phight, and this is one i'm so eager to continue. i've started chapter two, i just haven't finished it yet!
21. morning adrenaline rush
Pairing: Danny Fenton/Mateo Aguilar Rating: T Total Word Count: 3,397 words Completion Date: 09-05-2022 Notes: A continuation of "i'm not okay (i promise)" that didn't fit in the story but I wanted to tell so badly
22. i tried hard to make it inside your arms alive
Pairing: Danny Fenton/Mateo Aguilar Rating: T Total Word Count: 4,050 words Completion Date: 10-14-2022 Notes: ohhhhhh this one is so good. it's mateo's pov of what happens in "this is the road to ruin" at the end and... man. it's hard. it's very emo and i love it. good angst.
23. does anyone in this house knock?!
Pairing: None Rating: G Total Word Count: 4,156 words Completion Date: 04-21-2022 Notes: a lovely Good Fenton Parents fic post-reveal from Phic Phight. i love this fic so much. the first one is soft and sad and sweet, and the second one is funny and sweet
24. new kinds of firsts
Pairing: Danny Fenton/Mateo Aguilar Rating: T Total Word Count: 4,387 words Completion Date: 09-27-2022 Notes: Writing Danny and Mateo's first date after everything theyve been through was so much fucking fun. They're so cute and stupid, i love them
25. decaf to fenton, we have a problem
Pairing: Danny Fenton/Mateo Aguilar Rating: G Total Word Count: 4,599 words Completion Date: 04-30-2022 Notes: I recently reread this fic from Phight and oh man. oh man it's good. and so funny.
26. sore loser
Pairing: Danny Fenton/Mateo Aguilar Rating: E Total Word Count: 5,024 words Completion Date: 09-30-2022 Notes: this is purely indulgent smut with zero plot whatsoever. i'm very proud of it. it's the first kinky thing i've posted which took a lot of courage. i worked on it for months before finally posting
27. four years, that's all you've got to endure
Pairing: None Rating: G Total Word Count: 5,118 words Completion Date: 02-12-2022 Notes: Swore to the gods I wrote this in 2021... turns out i did not! i want to do more high school shenanigans with danny and the gang, but i gotta think up some first...
28. slip through my fingers
Pairing: Danny Fenton/Danny Phantom (Pitch Pearl) Rating: G Total Word Count: 6,356 words Completion Date: 11-20-2022 Notes: part three of the coffee shop au!! i love this one so much. the chase??? gods, i love that trope. i really need to finish the next part of this...
29. a christmas surprise
Pairing: Danny Fenton/Mateo Aguilar Rating: T Total Word Count: 6,447 words Completion Date: Started 12-26-2022, WIPNotes: I am literally the worst at finishing holiday fics on time. a hallmark ghost light au i have YET to complete.
30. in the shadow of your heart
Pairing: Danny Fenton/Mateo Aguilar Rating: T Total Word Count: 6,609 words Completion Date: Started 06-18-2022, WIP Notes: This is a self-indulgent Atlantis au i have also yet to finish. me?? starting fics i never finish??? neverrrr
31. when the nightmare fades
Pairing: Danny Fenton/Mateo Aguilar Rating: T 2022 Word Count: 6,105 words Total Word Count: 7,014 words Completion Date: 05-26-2022 Notes: I started this way back in like. november of '21, when i started the series. but it took me six more months for canon to catch up so i could finish it. and the last three chapters changed so drastically from beginning to end... man. it feels like it took forever, but i really only took six months??? wild
32. longer than the song of the whippoorwill
Pairing: Danny Fenton/Mateo Aguilar Rating: E Total Word Count: 7,244 words Completion Date: 07-27-2022 Notes: this is the first smut of the series!! my favorite bookmark comment on the series actually relates to this one. its something like "the tags say there is pornfic. i do not see it. maybe ao3 is bugging. EDIT 7/27: FOUND IT!" it cracks me up every time. do they enjoy the pornfic or are they enraged??? i will never know also it's got actual plot in it so i was more comfortable posting it first than say... sore loser that has 0 plot and is literally just smutty
33. nine and a half lives
Pairing: Danny Fenton/Mateo Aguilar Rating: G Total Word Count: 8,804 words Completion Date: 04-18-2022 Notes: THIS IS MY FAVORITE PHIC PHIGHT PROMPT EVER. KITTEN!DANNY. WHOEVER CAME UP WITH THAT (wait i thInk it was catmiint. my beloved.) IS THE BEST. IT ALSO HAS DOOFENSCHMIRTZ IN IT BECAUSE I COULDNT HELP MYSELF (yes u read that correctly. THAT doofenschmirtz)
34. against doctor's orders
Pairing: Danny Fenton/Mateo Aguilar Rating: T Total Word Count: 9,976 words Completion Date: 07-14-2022 Notes: I also really love this one. kinda plot-adjacent but mostly Relationship Stuff, talking and smooching. it's great. i get to flesh out my other OCs too which is fun
35. i fought you for so long (i should have let you in)
Pairing: Danny Fenton/Valerie Gray Rating: G Total Word Count: 11,740 words Completion Date: 04-07-2022 Notes: What's this?! a gray ghost fic?! yeah, its a phic phight prompt and i love it. its got some great textures, and it was a lot of fun to write in val's pov for a little bit
36. such a big, big world (and only the tools to deal with a tiny portion of it)
Pairing: None (hints at Danny Fenton/Mateo Aguilar Rating: G Total Word Count: 11,809 words Completion Date: 04-30-2022 Notes: big thanks to bib again for this title, it's literally one of my favorites. this whole thing is great, it's mostly the OCs talking about danny and his weirdness in the early school months. did i use phic phight to flesh out my au a little more?? yes, yes i did (and i'm sure annoyed people endlessly. oh well.)
37. hey, dad, look at me, did i grow up according to plan?
Pairing: None Rating: G Total Word Count: 11,847 words Completion Date: 04-18-2022 Notes: good (learning) parents fenton!! this follows immediately after my version of phantom planet where danny only reveals himself to his parents, and this is their reactions. the kitchen chapter is my favorite.

Pairing: Danny Fenton/OC Tony, Danny Fenton/Mateo Aguilar Rating: T Total Word Count: 11,958 words Completion Date: 10-23-2022 Notes: *vibrates out of my chair* this one is a whim fic (yes almost all 12k) bc of a weird throwaway line in an earlier fic and i couldnt help but make mateo a little jealous of tony. and then proceed to write 12, angsty, angsty k about it. that last chapter is so fucking good, yall can thank dream_trance for that one. its one of his ideas given extra spicy life
39. and they were history project partners
Pairing: None Rating: G Total Word Count: 17,278 words Completion Date: 04-30-2022 Notes: (i finished so many phics 4-30...) Dunno what it was about phic phight but I think i wrote two wes-related fics??? i either wrote Srs fics or Meme Fics, it seems. (wes is always a meme) but this one is one of my best. i also have a UFS version planned for. eventually. maybe.
40. quit telling everyone i'm (permanently) dead!
Pairing: Danny Fenton/Mateo Aguilar Rating: M Total Word Count: 23,607 words Completion Date: Started , WIP Notes: I AM SO MAD I DIDN'T FINISH THIS ONE BEFORE THE END OF THE YEAR. listen. i worked my ass off. but then the boys decided on drama, and then i went back to work.... i'm almost done though. only an extra 6k hanging around........ :sob:
41. it's just another day without you (and i can't sleep)
Pairing: eventual Danny Fenton/Mateo Aguilar Rating: T Total Word Count: 37,175 words Completion Date: 01-29-2022 Notes: i'm SUPER proud of this one, especially because i fucked around with narrative stuff, but i think its too subtle to be noticeable... still love it tho.
42. i'm not okay (i promise)
Pairing: Danny Fenton/Mateo Aguilar Rating: T Total Word Count: 38,838 words Completion Date: 05-08-2022 Notes: another proud baby. the culmination (kind of) of months of planning and many, many rewrites. i think i was working on this one in tandem with phic phight, actually...
43. this is the road to ruin (and we started at the end)
Pairing: Danny Fenton/Mateo Aguilar Rating: M Total Word Count: 88,917 words Completion Date: Notes: …my four biggest works can literally be summed up "i cause danny and mateo excessive amounts of angst and pain for fun." MY INVISOBANG. MY BELOVED. LOOK AT IT. I SPENT ALMOST NINE MONTHS ON THIS FUCKER. IT IS THE BEST THING I HAVE EVER WRITTEN. I CAN SCREAM ABOUT THIS FOREVER. LOOK AT THAT WORD COUNT. literally one of the first fics i thought of for the au, and i posted it over a year later. (got the idea in sept. '21, i finished publishing like... two days shy of an exact year.)
Man... this last year was a WILD writing year. and this is just what i published. y'all should see my wips.

So, I'm getting a covid booster Friday because they just came out with a new booster for the Omicron variant. And I am going to a really big convention at the end of October, so it only makes sense I get the booster. Especially considering my job.
So, this has led to the hilarious scenario of telling everyone "Sorry, I plan to be sick on Saturday" whenever they ask about the weekend. Because the Covid Vaccines knock me on my ASS. My immune system works OVERTIME on that shit. Which is great, that's what you want your immune system to do. But it is unpleasant.
Anyways, really tempted to roll out of bed saturday, being loopy on nyquil and try to write something just to see what happens. Like an Ectober Prompt or something. If I can get out of bed, that is.

Ectober Day 1: Splatter
It’s warm.
She should be happy. Here they were, the phantom and the huntress. It’s been so long since this all started. How long have they played this game of Cat & Mouse? How many times has he won?
It doesn’t matter. He wouldn’t win again.
Phantom always evaded her, always laughed and joked. It really had always been just that to him. A game.
But now the game’s over and it’s wrong why is it warm-
Amity feels so distant from up here, the crisp air biting at her skin. The only sounds that reach her ears are the gentle breeze and the whir of her gun, still pointed at Phantom’s chest. Phantom doesn’t move, save for the wisp that was his tail and the blood oozing from the hole she left.
Blood. Not ectoplasm. Warm, thick, blood.
His eyes now lack that drive she’s always hated, that mocking imitation of life. Now they’re empty, staring somewhere behind her. They remind her of glass.
The smell hits her like a train.
Rot. Cooked flesh and indisputable rot.
She could see it. The exposed muscle, browning and soft. She could see it with each breath, how it seemed to tear like tissue paper.
His features are contorted in a way that makes her stomach twist. Fear. Sadness. Regret. Of course he only feels that now, miles above the world they both know. He has no one to show for, he has no reason to pretend. He’s just a ghost with no where to run, broken and bleeding.
His eyes snap back to her, her free hand, as it slowly rises to her cheek.
It’s wet. It’s warm and it’s wet and it’s rotten why why WHY-
The words nearly miss her entirely. He said something, she knows he did. He can’t hold hold himself up anymore, she realizes. The way he shudders, she can practically see the strength drain from his body.
“I’m sorry.”
As he descends, she sees a glow. Bright and invasive, it’s all she sees as he plummets to the world beneath them.
Valerie watches him fall.

Danny was, in a word: paranoid. There were a lot of things he was not sure of after his battle with Pariah Dark, the self-proclaimed King of the Ghost Zone. He was not sure how bad the Ghost Zone looked; he had not really checked yet. He had heard a rumor that defeating Pariah meant that he was heir to the throne, which he was not sure of either. But mostly, out of all of it, he was not sure about Vlad. And that scared him a lot.
Danny knew that the Crown of Fire held power, even without the Ring. And, despite passing out moments later, he knew that he had shot the Crown off of Pariah’s head before locking him back up into the Sarcophagus of Forever Sleep. Yet, the Ectoskeleton was not the only thing that disappeared that night.
And he was pretty sure Vlad had both.

2021 Fic List
I only really started writing in October, but I figured I would do one anyway. Inspired by @apinklion01 and @kawaiijohn.
Total works: 13
Total wordcount: 19,959
Events: Ectober Month and Holiday Truce
All There Is or Was or Ever Will Be: 697 || T Rating || Gen || There were stars in the Ghost Zone. (Just a little fic about Danny learning about ghost stars.)
Taste: 1.6k || G Rating || Gen || As Danny's ghost powers develop, his tastes start to get a little weird. (Injury, minor gore.)
Last Stop: 1.4k || T Rating || Gen || Tucker just wants his ride home to be quick and peaceful after a long day at school. He doesn't want to deal with creepy, spontaneous laughter. (Rated T for spooky corpse lady.)
Weird: 1.1k || G Rating || Gen || The Fenton boy was weird. For most kids at Casper High, that was just a fact of life. The sky was blue, water was wet, and Danny Fenton was weird. Most of them wouldn’t really be able to tell you why. They might mention his crazy parents, or the fact that he ran out of class a lot. Some of them would bring up his friends. He seemed pretty boring himself, sure, but he wouldn’t be friends with those two if he was normal, right? Those were good enough reasons to call him weird, so most people left it at that. Dash knew better.
Sir, This is a Nasty Burger: 416 || G Rating || Gen || Valerie has to deal with some cultists trying to summon their god.
Late Night Answers: 1.6k || G Rating || Gen ||  Danny keeps waking up in the middle of the night. The same exact time every night. He decides to take a flight around town and runs into a couple ghosts who're willing to give him some answers.
Depths: 531 || G Rating || Gen || How far down does the Ghost Zone go? (Just a little bit of angst and worldbuilding.)
Ghost Lights: INCOMPLETE, 1/2 ch || 978 || G Rating || Gen ||  It's the annual Foley family Halloween party, and the trio are enjoying carving some pumpkins. They weren't expecting some ghosts to possess them! (Something silly that I need to finish.)
Janus Spirit: 1k || G Rating || Gen || Janus was the god with two faces. Danny had two forms, two faces he showed the world. He tried not to think of the implication that he was ‘two-faced.’ At first, he insisted that he wasn’t a liar. Not really. Not any more than anyone else.
Turnabout: 1.2k || G Rating || Gen || The closer to Halloween they got, the weirder Danny acted. It wasn’t too obvious at first. He floated a little more, even in human form. That happened normally a couple times a month, but suddenly Sam and Tucker were having to pull him down to the ground multiple times a week. Then it became a daily thing. If that was the only ghostly habit, Sam and Tucker wouldn’t have been so stressed out. It seemed like Danny’s eyes were green more often than they were blue recently. Cold practically radiated from him. He was even more quiet and seemed to go invisible as soon as he knew no one was looking at him. Even that wasn’t the worst of it.
One Way or Another: 978 || G Rating || Gen ||  Clockwork needs to explain to Sam and Tucker how they can help Danny, but he has to find a way around the rules that the Observants have made for him. (Angst.)
Plan C: 1.4 || G Rating || Gen || The whole building reeked of mildew. Some of the doors were broken off their hinges, and bits of what had once been ceiling peppered the floor. Sam was very glad she’d worn her good boots. At the end of the hall she found a directory. It listed a bunch of doctors by their office and specialty. Initially she just skimmed it just to try and figure out what might need to be close to a lab, but then something caught her attention. Dr. Penelope Spencer: Inpatient Psychiatry.
Can’t Go Home Again: INCOMPLETE, 2/5? || 2.8k || T Rating || Gen || Three weeks ago Danny told his parents about him being Phantom. They didn't take it well. His friends haven't heard from him since then, so they summon him back to Earth.
Family Secrets: 3.5k || G Rating || Gen || The Fentons take a week during winter break to fix up the old family cabin. When Danny and Jazz stumble across a secret, an old artifact has a strange effect on Danny.

Mutant: Ectober Day 3
So I wasn't originally planning on writing anything for Ectober but last night @typo-art posted their art for day 3 with this caption: Okay, but what if Danny learned about duplication the hard way instead of through Vlad.
So now I have an idea and I have to write it. Also see @friendly-neighborhood-imbecille 's art for day 3, which I saw after I started this but definitely drew from. Warning for intense body horror.
@ectoberhaunt
For Ectober Day 3: Mutant
Danny had had headaches before but never like this. The pain drilled through his brain. There was a pressure inside his skull… it was building. Not just behind his eyes or his forehead but all around. It was building, growing, magnifying. The boy leaned forward, nauseous from the pain.
Tears pooled on his eyes. He really should call his friends or his sister. Something…. Something was wrong but… Danny let out a muffled cry as there was another spike. His ears rang. His vision blurred. He couldn’t focus. He couldn’t see. The boy let out another cry. His head felt like an egg about to crack.
Still sitting on his bed, Danny leaned more as the pain spread. It radiated down, his muscles locking but even as he shook. There was… the pressure. The pressure. Like something inside of him pressing out, desperate to break out of his skin.
Another spike and …. Danny fell off the bed. He curled in on himself, his spasming hands moving to cradle his head.
“P..please..st…stopp.” He begged.
His core ached. It vibrated. It pulsed in time with every surge of pain. And Danny could feel its energy. The ectoplasm swirled through his veins, reaching out to inhabit the tips of his fingers, the bottom of his feet, the top of his head.
White light sparked along his middle and the pain crescendoed. His heart beat loudly in his ears, the pressure building and….oh god, he was going to burst. He was going to fracture. He was going to split apart. He was-
The light spread and Danny changed. The boy fought to grasp as he transformed into his ghost form.
The pain crashed into his crown, hammering, cleaving. Danny choked on a scream. There was a tugging feeling, a pulling like someone yanking on his hair, his ears, his scalp. Oh god. His head was splitting. It was splitting and his brain was gonna spill out on the floor, scrabbled like eggs and-
Wait. Danny blinked. It… it didn’t hurt anymore. His head didn’t hurt anymore. For a moment, he felt like crying in blessed relief but… there was something…
The boy blinked. And he blinked again, trying to clear his vision. But… he frowned. Something looked wrong. It was like… when he’d wake up in the morning, too exhausted for his eyes to even focus. His vision was doubled or… more?
Danny shakily tried to push himself to stand. He settled onto his feet, vision still unclear. He tried to close one eye but he was still seeing multiple. And… there was something strange at the edge of his vision. Out the corner of his left eye? Or his right eye? The boy shook his head, finally closing two eyes. But… he could still see?
Briefly, the half ghost pushed the confusion away at another spike of pain, this time in his right hand. Danny gasped, the sound echoing oddly, as he clutched the appendage in his other hand. He held both hands in front of his face.
Danny’s eyes widened in silent horror as his right hand writhed and throbbed. His skin stretched and… oh g- he watched as his thumb widened. There was a tugging sensation and the digit split. Two thumbs… he had two thumbs on his right hand.
Pain! He felt like throwing up. His flesh writhed, pulling away from itself as more fingers grew and divided. And… there were two hands, attached to each other at the wrist.
Danny wanted to scream but no air would enter his lungs. The mutant growth continued, his muscle and skin pulling, growing, separating. Down his wrist, his forearm, to his elbow. The two partial limbs hung from the joint. Numbly, the boy tried to wiggle the fingers and… he flinched as both hands responded, perfectly in sync.
His horror magnified. His upper arm started tugging as well, the flesh peeling away from itself as it grew and separated into two complete arms at the shoulder. And the mutating didn’t stop.
A pain started in Danny’s skull again, something pressing on the side of his head, on both sides. His vision grew wider and wider, his eyes becoming further apart. There was a tugging over his cheek, his chin, his neck. There was a snap and… something was brushing his ear. His ear was brushing something. Danny tried to turn his head to look but something was squished against his cheek. He thought he caught a glimpse: pale blue, snowy white, and neon green.
Danny’s mind was blank, unable to put together what he was seeing.
But then the pulling feeling attacked his chest. Danny looked down and his lungs spasmed in panic. His chest, his chest was splitting as well, growing wider and wider. His shoulders popped longer and longer. With an agonizing crunch, the pulling in his neck drove all the way down to where it met his shoulders.
And he was still growing. His chest stretched farther and farther as his arms at the end of either shoulder became even farther apart. Finally, finally, Danny could turn his head.
And he wanted to… he wanted to scream. But he couldn’t, not with the horrifying changes overtaking his torso. But… he had two heads. Two heads with two necks jutting out of his monstrously wide chest.
His shoulders kept elongating. He must be… he must be twice as wide as he was before. There was a crunch and… Both heads, noses scrunching in pain, turned to watch as a depression grew between them. The flesh writhed and separated and… that was another shoulder. A third and fourth shoulder.
And.. oh god. How was he still conscious? How was he still aware as his body was warped and mutated and violated?
But still… now his stomach, down to his hips, were widening as well. His torso swelled and the depression of the growing shoulders became deeper. His newly grown arm shifted. His body rippled and flexed until that set of shoulders, the one of the right, had two arms. And on the left side, there was a stump but not for long. It grew, stretching downwards. Pain radiated up the limb, from the forming elbow, the forearm, the hand. The fingers grew and separated and…
The depression down what had once been his monstrous chest dug deeper, sinking to below his sternum. And farther. His pelvis stretched, crunching and popping wider.
And Danny…he…they were blind with panic, silent with fear, thoughts numb with pain. They… he were two heads, two sets of shoulders, two pairs of arms on two chest, connected by one widened set of hips.
And it was still widening. His… their pelvis was growing, bigger and bigger, wider and wider as the depression sank to their navel. Their legs were growing too, stretching wider and wider, thicker and thicker. The thighs, the knees, the base of the legs, the feet. The flesh stretched and swelled and enlarged as they grew. The limbs shook, throbbing with pain, aching to separate.
And they did. The massive legs tugged and pulled and split, from the top of the thigh downward. Each divided into two pairs. Two pairs of wobbly legs, under a truly monstrous, inhumanly wide pelvis.
Two sets of lungs, two mouths wanted to scream. Two stomachs wanted to upheave. But they couldn’t. He couldn’t. One more jolt as their pelvis grew to its final width. One more excruciating tug on the lower body. And the two bodies finally pulled apart. They split. They separated completely. That once was one became two.
Both Dannys were thrown away from each other. And both finally screamed.

Ectober Day 3 - Mutant
Word Count: 1.1k Characters: Danny, Jazz Summary: Danny wants what he thinks he can’t have; Jazz offers a helping hand
Sitting on the floor with his back leaning against his bed, he allowed himself to cry – quietly. Each silent sob tugged the next one out of him, an unending chain that shook his shoulders and made his breath choppy and uneven, but still he made no sound.
Too long had this feeling been building up inside of him. Today had been the breaking point, acting happy and fine at dinner, as though everything were alright, when inside he was screaming for someone to notice that he, in fact, was not alright.
Was it fair to blame his family for not realizing, when he had resolutely kept up the mask that nothing was bothering him? Perhaps not. And part of him was upset with himself for being upset over something so stupid. That was the thing. Nothing bad had happened to him, not recently, not more than usual.
He bit his fist as he fought back a whine, a thin, reedy cry slipping out of him before he could stifle it. No matter. Everyone else was already asleep at this hour. No one would notice.
Less than a minute later there was a soft knock at his door. “Danny?”
Of course Jazz would be the exception.
He wanted to respond but his breathing was still choppy and outside his control. She opened the door regardless, slipping in quietly and closing the door behind her.
“Are you hurt?”
He shook his head and buried his face in his knees, arms crossed around them.
Rather than ask him what was wrong, she sat down next to him and wrapped her arm around his shoulders. Danny tried to explain, wanting to be understood, but there was a knot in his throat he couldn’t speak past, so he blindly groped for the brochure at his feet and thrust it at his sister instead.
“I can’t read in the dark. Is it alright if I turn on a lamp?”
Danny nodded, and when she left his side to flick on his bedside lamp he took the opportunity to wipe his eyes and take a deep, shuddering breath.
She returned to her spot next to him before she started to read, and Danny’s stomach felt like it was boiling. He stared fixedly at the floor, not wanting to see her face, oh god what if she laughed, it was such a stupid idea.
“I d-don’t know what I’m crying for. I just – I’ve had that for three weeks, well, you know, the assembly – and today I realized the application deadline has passed. It must have passed. And I missed my chance. Only, I wouldn’t have gone, not really. I couldn’t leave Sam and Tucker behind. But.” And he hated that his eyes welled up again. “But it was nice to imagine, that it could have been possible.”
“How do you know that the deadline has passed?”
“Does it matter? I can’t go!”
“Why not?”
“You know why.”
“Explain it to me.”
There was the obvious reason, the reason that was always present, like a toothache; and like a toothache, it hurt worse to touch it, so he didn’t, grabbing another, equally valid reason. “Because – because it’s a private school, and I’m not cut out for that. And Sam wouldn’t want me to go, she hates private schools; she proudly got kicked out of the one her parents sent her to.”
“Sam values uniqueness, and individuality,” Jazz countered. “And there’d be no shortage of that.”
“It’s too expensive.”
“They offer scholarships.” She passed the pamphlet back to him. He took it, reflexively. After three weeks, it was looking rather worse for wear, the way Danny kept folding and unfolding it, staring at the photos of smiling kids and ivy-covered buildings.
“I can’t leave Tucker and Sam, I don’t know what I’d do without them.” Of this point he was certain, if nothing else. “And if I go, then everyone’s going to know. It’s an open secret what this school is. You think it’s not going to raise eyebrows if, when a job application asks what high school I graduated from, I write ‘Xavier’s School for Gifted Youngsters’?”
The brochure crumpled under his clenched fist. Hastily, he smoothed it out, flattening the creases with care.
“And you don’t want to tell Mom and Dad.” Jazz apparently had no problem poking his metaphorical toothache.
“Yeah.” Danny looked at the glossy photos, and yearned. He’d never known he could want something as badly as he wanted to go to this school, where other kids were just as freakish as he was and he wouldn’t have to hide anymore. Where he could be accepted for all he was. He wanted it so badly it hurt, so badly that keeping his feelings hidden led him to be here, sobbing on his bedroom floor in the dark.
When they’d been called in for assembly three weeks ago, Danny had just appreciated the break from classwork. But when the representative from the school started talking about the wonderful opportunities available to students, the top-notch facilities, the quality education they could receive and all the doors it would open… then Danny allowed himself to imagine.
(Of course, after the assembly everyone kept darting glances at Brant Gosling, the only visibly mutant kid in their class. But as usual he didn’t let the attention ruffle his feathers – literally – and graciously repeated to anyone who asked that no, he would not be applying to Xavier’s; he was quite happy where he was at Casper. Danny didn’t think he would have been half as self-confident, in his place).
Jazz had gotten a lot better about not putting words in his mouth, and giving him time to collect his own thoughts. She did so now, sitting quietly and rubbing soothing circles on his back.
“It’s just… you need at least a master’s degree to get into the space program, and Xavier’s students actually have high acceptance rates into colleges.”
“It sounds like it doesn’t count against you on applications, then, to be a graduate. At least not everywhere.”
“Some people would say that’s just to fill diversity quotas.”
“Some people are bigoted assholes.”
Danny laughed outright at hearing Jazz swear, then sobered. “Mom and Dad…” he began tentatively. “We know they’re pro-mutant rights; they’ve said so.”
“That’s right.”
“But they’re anti-ghost.” Danny was once again on more certain ground.
“Danny…” Jazz hesitated. “I don’t want to tell you what you should do. You know I will support you no matter what. But it worries me to find you having a breakdown because you’ve been bottling everything up inside. This isn’t sustainable.”
“I know, I know; you’re right.” He ran a finger down the well-worn creases of the pamphlet. “At this point… It’s not that I don’t want to tell them. I just don’t know how,” he confessed.
Jazz beamed at him. “That’s okay. We can figure something out together.”

Ectober Month Day 28: Rot
WC: 367
TWs: body horror, descriptions of the stages of decay, mention of death
Ao3
*
He’d been able to write off the stiff, barely moveable joints at the beginning, had even managed to ignore the puffiness that followed, burying it under baggy clothing, but this wasn’t something Danny could hide anymore. This wasn’t like the lower body temperature he could cushion with layers, or the lack of a heartbeat he never had to explain.
His skin had started to discolor beyond the deathly pallor his corpse usually kept, turning green and purple. Danny would randomly get stuff leaking out of his nose, and so much as bumping into something could tear his skin open, the wound oozing whatever liquids were pooling in his flesh. There were some parts of his body he could poke and it would feel like touching a water balloon, the muscles and organs already starting to liquefy.
Danny wasn’t sure what he was going to tell his friends, even as it got harder and harder to hide.
How would you even open that conversation? Hey, remember when I kind of, almost, sorta didn’t die? Well actually I did, I’ve just been possessing my own corpse so you guys didn’t worry. Yeah, and my body has literally started rotting with me inside of it. Really unpleasant.
Not to mention what he’d have to tell his sister, or his parents. They weren’t even there when he turned the portal on, they didn’t even know him being dead was a possibility!
Danny didn’t really want to keep possessing a rotting bag of flesh, even if it belonged to him once. He didn’t want to be here when it became more liquid than solid, when the skin starts to sag against the skeleton because there's nothing filling it out, when the last of his flesh turns black and sloughs off his bones.
He might be around for a while, but his corpse wasn’t going to be, and he couldn’t just pilot a skeleton.
So he’d have to tell them. Soon, by the rate he was decaying at.
He could put it off for a few more days, though, couldn’t he? Nobody really liked to talk about their death, even if he was already reliving it from inside his own decaying body.

Ectober day 10, 11 (doppleganger, doors)
Danny was tracing a map from the ghost zone, it looks like it will never be complete as he's slowly realizing the ghost zone is like a bottomless abyss, for every secret he uncovers, 30 more lurk in the shadows waiting to jump on his face, right now he was knocking doors to annotate how dangerous was this zone, he did encounter all different kinds of ghost by doing this... Good, evil, mad, friendly.
Right now he's chewing a cookie Pandora gave him after he visited her liar, he flies around knocking the door of a ghost tiger with what appears to be 2 trainers, Ember's door having her yelling at him to go since she was about to go to sleep, and finally he saw it...
A solitary purple door with no marks, just a black doorknob, he knocked the door and gave it some distance, knowing for experience the solitary doors usually have some kind of monster or an insane ghost.
He's already reaching for the Fenton thermos with his left hand and swallowing the remains of his cookie, but what opened the door left him extremely confused.
A boy who looks almost just like him in his human half, with exception of his dark green eyes and his clothes having a naval blue hoodie, red pants, blue and white shoes and looking extremely pale with black bags under his eyes as if he hadn't been sleeping in months, Danny lowered the thermos.
-um..., hi, sorry for disturbing you, I'm just writing a map and I wanted to know who habits this doors, so, don't worry, I'm just passing by... -
The doppleganger smiles and before Danny can fly away he says.
-You're Danny phantom? -
Danny turns around.
-uh yeah..., so... By your looks..., are you a fan or something?, are you a shape shifter? -
He asked as he remembered his experience with Amorpho, the look a like looks on the other side.
-something like that... -
Danny sighs internally in relief this ghost seems to be friendly, he approaches some more.
-Well, let me tell you, you kinda got my appearance wrong, I have white hair and my eyes are more glowy, but that's a nice try-
He said with a smile, the other one just says.
-I know..., but I'm not trying to imitate you, this is just... Me... -
Danny almost laughed but he held back not wanting to spoil his relationship with this ghost before knowing how powerful he is.
-but... You said you were a shape shifter, you can't just... Look like me..., or... Is that you... Don't like your real..., ah, I'm sorry, I didn't meant to... -
He said as he realized maybe this ghost felt ok with that form and doesn't want to have to deal with something he doesn't feel comfortable with..., the other one just laughed, relaxing Danny a little.
-relax, it's just I was hoping you could recognize me like this... -
Danny seems confused
-do I... Know you? -
The ghost walks towards Danny allowing him to see his left arm is totally rotten
-not yet?-
Danny looks nauseous
-dude...-
Then he realizes... His arm is bleeding but the blood is not red or green like ectoplasm, it's pitch black
(He's not a ghost...)
He thought as he flinched, that seems to anger the peculiar doppleganger.
-oh, come on Danny!, it's not that bad!, come back! -
Danny is now afraid and regretting getting near but he didn't flee, thinking maybe this ghost is using an illusion or it's ability to shape shift to mess around with him
-ok, ok, you got me, those were really nice tricks Amorpho... -
The other one didn't seem happy with that answer
-um... New shape shifter ghost?... -
The other one didn't answer, instead he looks hurt and conflicted.
-do you know... Plasmius? -
He said thinking of a clone, it was then when he saw it turning into some kind of mixed up animal, reminding him of certain incident with Sam's ouija board..., it roared loudly, Danny screamed and blasted at it with an ecto ray making it get back to it's liar, Danny closed the door and flew away as fast as he could, getting back to the Fenton portal.
-ok..., no more opening solitary doors... -
He said to himself as he closed the metal doors of the portal.

For Ectober Mont/Week Day 31: Insomnia/blood moon! More writing today, self indulgent, pure angst. No specific warnings, though I believe Spectra serves as her own warning. Read below the cut!
He can’t sleep. He can’t fucking sleep. Not a single ghost attack has disturbed him all night, or a stray explosion from the lab downstairs. There’s no reason he can’t sleep. His eyes bore into the ceiling without seeing the glow in the dark stars he put there so many years before. All he wants to do is sleep.
The next day dawns just as exhausting as the last one ended. Sam and Tucker look at him with more concern than usual, and he has even less of an explanation than usual. The sun outside is too bright and the street noise too loud, yet it all feels so far away. His focus waxes and wanes as he does his best to follow their conversation.
They poke and prod him the rest of the day, trying to keep him from slipping away into a fog of overstimulated fatigue. More than one teacher has to rudely awaken him from this state, but not one punishes him. Even they seem worried. He would take a month’s worth of detentions if it meant he could sleep. He waves away his friends when they ask him to go out after school. He’d only be a burden like this, he knows.
Jazz takes one look at him when he gets home and sends him straight to bed. He tells her that it won’t work, that he won’t sleep, but she pushes him along anyway. She doesn’t say he’s not trying hard enough, she’s too familiar with the workings of the mind for that, but that doesn’t stop her own unique suggestions from spewing forth. He doesn’t have mind enough to tell her he’s tried them all already. He can’t bear to hear another word from her.
It’s the third (or fourth?) night of this that it all comes to a head. Frustrated and sick of the past days, he bursts into the night sky in a brief green-white glow. This surge of energy lasts only a moment, and he’s soon more faint than he’s ever been in his ghost form. He doesn’t notice. He stares into the stars bright in the sky, a far more preferable view than the ones on his ceiling. If his eyes insist on staying open, at least he’ll choose what to look at. But clouds roll in, quite suddenly. He sinks slowly, without noticing, in despair.
It’s then when she strikes. He doesn’t know how many days it’s been, really. He doesn’t know how long it’s been since he’s seen his friends, talked to his sister. Has he even been to school recently? He won’t remember any time soon, as a vast empty chasm overtakes his mind. From where does is come? From who? From her. She’s there, alone, no spectral sidekick to be seen, but he doesn’t care.
Almost grateful for a fight, he launches into the fray with wild abandon. Anything to occupy his perpetually waking mind. He doesn’t see that his blows are wide and slow. He forgets his powers, losing control, forgoing intangibility for absorbing hits he has less ability to heal than ever. Ice flakes off from his fists, and his eyes glow fiercely. Finally, he remembers himself, and his hate for this malevolent spirit. He remembers his greatest ability, and finds reason to use it.
He reaches deep in desperation, and grasps at that reckless, angry, terrified part of himself where his ghostly wail lives. He reaches deeply, and his mind grasps nothing. Again, and again nothing. There’s no hole there, and it’s not like it was never there at all. It’s just… not there. It’s not something he's able to do. He's like a gymnast who's lost the ability to twist in the air. He stares at Spectra in utter despair.
She reaches for him. She reaches for him, and he knows no more…

WIP game
Rules: post the names of all the files in your WIP folder regardless of how non-descriptive or ridiculous. Let people send you an ask with the title that most intrigues them and then post a little snippet of it or tell them something about it! And then tag as many people as you have wips. (You can make your own post or reblog this one!) I have deemed that this isn’t just for writing either. Sketch titles? Comics? DND campaigns? If you have an unfinished project, it counts!!
Tagged by @deathcomes4u
okay, this feels like a call out post alskdjfldsjf i'm only doing DP again because since the last time i did this in april?? my wip count has grown exponentially and that's already too much. (literally i think i did this in april and i only had like 29??) i'm gonna split it between au series and non au series stuff because i do have other ideas!! i just never write them
the world is having more fun than me (tonight) wips
we're going in chronological order because that's how i have them organized
mateo's jealous of tony - literally exactly what it sounds like. i was rereading "college is a time of firsts" and i wanted to expand on that because honestly i didn't pay enough attention to it at the time, and i think mateo deserves to be a little jealous, as a treat
morning adrenaline rush - a scrapped chapter from "i'm not okay (i promise" that i think works as a standalone. i'm just polishing it up at this point
cape - stupid fucking work that i haven't named and i can't seem to fucking write. it's supposed to be right before "longer than the song of the whippoorwill" to provide some context but i haven't written it!! so it wallows
quit telling everyone i'm (permanently) dead! - working on the last chapter after invisobang
INVISOBANG - i can't wait to share this one 😈
by all means, i'm getting mad (that don't mean i don't feel sorry for you) - danny visits dan in prison and things are fun and not at all angsty!
intermediary winter break fic & ectober 14 - literally what it says. ectober 14 i think is the one where i have nikau arrange a ringtone for danny and it's the show's theme
heaven's grief brings hell's reign - more smut! this time with even more angst! this is the end of the [invisobang] arc.
clockwork post IB fic - i want to write out some clockwork stuff as a "prequel" to IB, but it's gonna go after, i tihnk. timey wimey stuff.
mateo post IB fic - i have a scene i want to write from mateo's pov that i don't have time or space for in IB, so it's going here, probably!
first date fic - spring semester! new arc! danny and mateo are going out on their "first" date to the boardwalk and their friends are being more emo about it than they are (might become rated E, not sure yet)
big date fic - a series of dates i wanted danny to go on with tony before i deicded tony was a shitty person and these are better dates with mateo anyway. will probably write them all in the same work but then mark where they go in the timeline in each chapter
mateo gets interrogated by vanessa - this one has IB spoilers but it's gonna be fun. they're relationship is gonna develop nicely
you're the best thing to happen to me - a oneshot i wrote on tumblr a while back that i'm gonna polish up and post
sin francisco - i want to finish this SO BAD but IB has taken every brain cell i have
fishin' in the dark - mateo comes to amity for their first summer together and danny shows him what it's like to be a kid out in the middle of nowhere. bonfire party turns into skinny dippin, all set to nitty gritty's fishin in the dark.
anything you say can and will be held against you (so only say my name) - another smutty fic, this time it's pure smut. dunno where it goes yet, mostly because i just have the smut, i don't have the story around it built yet, but it lives here for now
with every sin i still wanna be holy - dan realizing he's tired being shitty and alone, and he would like to be a better person now pls. (also known as dan goes to therapy)
the weight of living - another dan centric fic where he gets out on parole and immediately starts causing problems for the specter squad. he's doesn't remember what it's like to live as a human, let alone a halfa, so there are some growing pains. angsty and comedic
jr/sr antics - a catch all for the last two years of their school. atm i think there's a couple of funny snippets that are now anachronistic because of IB things, but thats it
danny and mateo coreplay - uhhhhh i don't have an explanation for this one except blame the server
so shall it be - the beginning of the once more with feeling arc. angsty. sad. heartbreaking.
once more with feeling - emrys accidentally makes a wish and now the whole campus is stuck in a musical - and danny and mateo aren't handling it well
where do we go from here? - the end of the once more with feeling arc. angstier. sadder. heartbreaking-er.
here comes goodbye - the actual end of the once more with feeling arc and a recent addition. graduation! but make it heartwrenchingly sad!
hey there, shadow - the beginning of the kneel to the crown arc. smut. the kneel to the crown arc is basically just smut. i can't explain it, i don't make the rules.
misery loves my company - this may be a standalone or it may be part of "hey there, shadow" i haven't decided, but spectra gets her claws in mateo
my wish for you - danny makes a stupid wish and mateo suffers th econsequences - and when he finds out? he's livid. he and danny work out their anger. in ways. >.>
kneel to the crown - the culmination of the series that has too many spoilers so i can't even tell you what's in it. but it's a rom com. and it'll be great.
ghost king danny welcomes mom home - a phic phight fill i never finsihed that i want to work on
[anachronistic atm] - a series of friend date fics that mirror "such a big, big world" where danny spends time with the squad and i get mroe time to develop them
[anachronistic atm] - the haunt - sam wasn't kidding about opening a bronze style club in amity. that's all i've got so far, but i'll come up with something soon i think
non series au wips
danny grave fic or j13 origin - based on the song "johnny" by american murder song, it's either a "danny had to bury his body" fic or a johnny 13 origin fic, which i've already kinda started
danny stripper identity reveal fic - gray ghost fic, exactly what it sounds like lmao
dp as syfy's alice - this is based on this post by dreamwraith, actually, about the fallout from reign storm and the weird ambiguity of who was supposed to be king after. vlad takes it for himself (making him the queen of hearts) and the asserts his hold on the world, taking maddie as his king of hearts, making Jack the Carpenter... i have the whole character list written out now. it was originally gonna be everlasting trio but now i'm thinking it'd be a nice pitch pearl au. phantom as hatter?? sign me the fuck up
floral collab - paulina brings blood blossoms to class and danny's reaction causes him to reveal himself. one of a few reveal fics i have that i've just never finished
perfect - an angsty fic based on the song perfect by simple plan. i have a fic already titled after this song, but i want a truly angsty one where danny's reveal to his parents doesn't go so well...pitch pearl
tuck everlasting au - FUCK am i so excited to work on it. dark ages raised immortal phantom, plucky and naive danny, a tragic lovestory... i need invisobang to be over so i can work on this NOW
primeval crossover - british tv show from the same era as DP, deals with anomalies in time that bring them dinosaurs. the anomalies are actually portals in this au and the villain from primeval is the big bad danny was chasing that landed him and team phantom in london surrounded by men in black pointing guns at them. probably gonna be everlasting trio, which is new for me! i have dynamics written out, but that's about it
TUE but it happens bc danny says fuck - mostly crack but kinda wanna write it...
ghost light stripper au - danny is a stripper in this one and the specter squad takes mateo out for his birthday. pretty sure the plan is for this one to end in a one night stand that has them both addicted and suddenly they're kind of but not really dating while their friends just stare at the ceiling and pray for a braincell
ghost light ABO au - this one is also the servers fault. no i will not be taking questions at this time
in the shadow of your heart - my ghost light atlantis au 💖 it's already started and been posted, but i had to stop working on it for invisobang. i can't wait to get to work on it again. i've done so much work to make it logical to find the ghost zone and keep the atlantis bit of the au still close, it's gonna be great, promise
and they were history project partners UFS version - i wanted to turn one of my series au phic phight prompts into a UFS version because ti was there and if i hadn't already decided it was part of my au, i would've gone full fledged. (this one is red's fault 💖)
i'm not tagging 44 people, sorry, lmao but i will tag some of my favorite people 💖
@dreamwraith @cheezygoddess @pennerjones @i-think-in-metaphors @ectoplasmicsoda @redead-red @jadenoryuu @floralflowerpower
also u guys should totally send me asks about these because i love talking about my writing and i feel like i haven't gotten a chance lately with non-IB stuff 👀
