trans man. he/him. realized it as a tween. like 11

already had the “shiro” nickname from his surname but chose takashi because it’s the name his mom planned to use. his momma was his best friend growing up so takashi is a special secret name only certain people can casually use for him <3

has a model minority complex and thinks he has to be a perfect person and a perfect role model and perfect everything else. he doesn’t think everyone needs to be like this but he does you don’t get it he needs to be perfect in order to gain basic respect

he’s a bear. when he started t and gained weight and started growing thicker body hair he was like “FUCK YEAH”

wanted top and bottom surgery. irl modern phalloplasty can take skin grafts from the arm and for sillies shiro did that. but on the arm he lost. can’t even show off his cool graft scar 🙄 stupid galra

him and adam are t4t. he picked the name adam because his deadname is eve and he’s the funniest ever

randomly walked up to his dad and said “pops i wanna be a boy” and his dad went “okay son :^)” and helped him with picking a new name and pronouns. that’s why he ended up with keith of all names

his dad planned on helping him with puberty blockers and hrt because keith said he wanted it but. he died before keith got to that age :^(

so unfortunately keith had to go thru one puberty and then another. and THEN he gets a weird galra puberty in his 20s. puberties gerog

shiro was the one to help him get access to testosterone and top surgery <3 yay trans brotherhood ^_^

keith doesn’t care about his junk enough to get bottom surgery tho. he really only got top surgery to get cool ass scars on his chest. he doesn’t give a shit about gender essentialism and isn’t afraid to stab a transphobe ❤️

same as keith she was just one day like “i wanna be a girl” and her parents were the same and immediately accepted her and helped her with transitioning (she had a bit more social transitioning tho because she wasn’t in the middle of bum fuck nowhere)

unlike keith tho she got to do puberty blockers and start e as a tween and stuff. good for her!

she picked the name katie but it’s not short for anything. she gets the question all the time and she always rolls her eyes

detransitioning for the garrison sucked like ass and she hated it but she did it for her family. coming out to the team was a huge weight off her shoulders

THEE most obvious egg ever. also very obvious bisexual but hasn’t realized that either. it’s painful to watch sometimes (send help to hunk because you know he immediately clocked lance)

lance never realizes on her own what happens is keith tells her despite hunk saying that that’s rude. he blatantly tells lance that she obviously wants to be a girl and that she can do that if she wants to. and when she says she likes being a guy keith says she can be both if she wants. she can do whatever she wants forever

her being out for not long before the war is why she was so excited that pidge is a girl. she’s a girl making friends with other girls!!!!!! and that excitement doubles when learning that pidge is earth’s equivalent of trans yayyyyy

in my mind the notion of people fitting into gender roles on altea is the same vibe as the notion of women wearing skirts not pants irl. like that’s an outdated idea but not that outdated unfortunately :^/

i don’t think there was major misogyny or transphobia on altea tho. not sure if it makes sense to anyone else but it makes sense in my mind ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

when allura came out she sat down with her parents and coran (honorary third parent) and talked about her feelings and thoughts on gender as a whole. coran went “oh. is that not how cis people think?”

L A N C E !!!

Lance is my favourite!! For many reasons, but mostly because I relate to him on a lot of levels, mainly with

- self recognition issues, aka what happened when Lance doubted his skills as a paladin, and was thinking about stepping down.

I struggle with this, mostly as an artist, as I've seen my friends, and other people I know in life, have better skills, and most of the times doubting myself about my artist skills 😔 But I've gotten better at just focusing on my own art and in turn I felt like it helped me get better!!

- value in relationships, platonic, family, romantic even. I love how he values his relationships with the other paladins, about how he's always willing to take steps for others, comforting his friends, and always willing to step up as a person, even though he's cocky and can be full of himself (mostly in the earlier seasons) he's got a heart of gold underneath all that!!

Lance tends to put up this persona of himself being a "ladies man," the cocky flirt even. But there's so much more to his character than just that, he's not just the love interest, he tends to be the emotional support of others, a hard worker, he's also a pretty good well rounded character, he has his own flaws and insecurites, which help him become a better paladin throughout the show. Honestly, though, later, seasons mainly treat him as the "love interest," and I don't think that's really a way to describe him, as he's just SO much more than that!!

I love his dynamic with other characters, SO SO MUCH!

There's Hunk and Lance. They're basically best friends!! Best friends since the garrison, I love their moments together, even though it's not much, and mostly joking and small banter, but in the end they're really close friends who've always got eachothers backs, and knowing how close they are, makes them a really good team. They show their best values and bring out the best in each other!!

There's Pidge and Lance, who are more like a brother/sister duo, with Lance being like a second brother to Pidge. A moment that really stood out to me was Pidge dragging Lance along to help her find enough GAC to purchase a video game from the space mall, I love how Lance just simply went along with it, spending time with her as if she was his own sister, and in return, Pidge traded away a video game so that Allura could get a dress for her date with Lance, as Pidge knew how much this meant to him, even though she was reluctant at first!

Coran and Lance, having a father-son bond, similar to Shiro, being the guide for the paladins, acting as a father figure (space dad)

And then there's Keith and Lance, Keith and Lance, the "rivals" who compete for Np reason, who grow to accept eachother. A good example of acceptance shown between their bond is when the Black Lion had chosen Keith as the paladin, while at first, Lance was jealous, he learned to realise and proceeded to comfort Keith about his new position, showing that yes its going to he difficult, but he says to Keith that he is the one for the job, and gives him a fond look, stating that even though no one can replace Shiro, Keith can lead the team, and that he'll always be there with Keith. (Kinda cute as Lance sorta becomes his right hand man!) And the fact that Lance trusts Keith enough to get some words before his date with Allura, Lance going to Keith of all people when he was unsure about his place as a paladin, Lance even comforting Keith, and helping him during missions, being by his side, the jokes, the playful name calling. Everything, I love their dynamic!!

I love Lance as a character, sure, I'm still SUPER upset on how his life is after the events of the series, but in short, Lance, Lance McClain is my favourite vld character.

Literally the best sharpshooter ever !! ⬆️

Ok so then how did the team react to y'all being together (not the same person as 30 sec agoI don't need to be anonymous)

It felt pretty normal, though I think they were expecting Lance to mourn Allura for longer than he did. Shiro said he thinks me being there for him likely helped him move on.

It was never my intention to be with Lance after Allura’s death, it just came around to be that way. It felt right, and Lance assured me it wasn’t because he wanted to fill a hole in his heart or anything. He’s liked me for a while, just as I’ve liked him.

The only reason we didn’t get together until after the war was because I was so focused on it. I didn’t have time for relationships, and I never even felt like I did before the war because of my tumultuous lifestyle.

Sorry, went off on a tangent there. I think the biggest reaction was Hunk’s because he baked us a cake to celebrate. Pidge and him started telling me how Lance did seem to be so focused on me back at the Garrison, while I didn’t even know he existed. Still crazy to me that I was too in my own head to notice him back then.

Listen, I don't care how long ago the final season of Voltron was aired, I don't care if anyone is still in the Voltron fandom. I will ALWAYS be pressed over how they did these characters SO dirty.

First off, the final episode of the series was such a damn copout. Ending the series with Allura dying to 'save the multiverse' and having the paladins forgive Honerva? After everything she had done in the 8 seasons leading up to this? After she tore apart the same multiverse she destroyed because the one timeline she found where Lotor knew she was a fucking liar? Make it make so much sense Dreamworks.

And then the 10 years later shit. Shiro had a wedding. Okay, yeah, he got out of the Garrison and settled down. He should, after all he had been through. I bet dying and being stuck in Black for months would lead to some introspective work. But killing Adam so there was no gay relationships, and then to pair him with a character who had like, what? Two lines in the full series, and we saw Shiro interact with once, as a Captain and crew setting? No build up, no hints during the full season?

Don't get me wrong. If the writers wanted to give Shiro the chance to shed everything from his past life, then by all means, they had the right to. But the way they did it was not only poorly written, but it also left those who had been hoping to FINALY see Shiro interact with his partner, that had been teased at outside of the show.

Hunk is another one I had a big problem with. As a plus size person, who felt like she was just that 'fat best friend' during the airing of the final season, I related to Hunk. I loved how he was more than the foodie. He's an engineer, he's smart. He matches Pidge in intellect. He's kind, he's brave despite his anxiety. He had nausea a lot. He's fleshed out, he's more than fat and food jokes.

And they took that all away, to make him Gordan Ramsey of space. They took 8 seasons of character arcs to make him that. A fucking fat person likes food joke. Once again, I wouldn't have had a problem if that wouldn't have been it. Make it a soup kitchen for those displaced during the Empires rule. Make him donate food to needy planets. Hell, have him travel with Keith, giving food to the planets they go to for help. Just, something that acknowledges Hunks generous nature, his kindness. Not Food Wars.

Speaking of Keith, I found that while I expected his ending to be similar to what it was, I didn't have any real emotion about it. He was a displaced child, who was, from what we can assume about what little we really know about his childhood, outside of him meeting Shiro and how his parents met. He always felt like he didn't belong, with the Paladins, and struggled being leader because he didn't feel like he lived up to Shiro's expectation or his legacy after he died.

So Keith teaming up with Lotor's generals to basically continue what Voltron did makes sense, I guess. But, I would have loved to see something else. If anyone deserves to settle down, aside from Shiro, I think it would be Keith. I can see him as the type of person to give a child, either adopted or biological, the childhood he wished he had.

Pidge's end is as to be expected. She's working with her parents and her brother, working for the Garrison. Out of all the characters, I honestly think Pidge had the least amount of true character arks. She had the moment in season 1 or 2 when she wanted to ditch Voltron to find her brother, and Keith called her out. And when she bonded with Green in season one on Olkyn. But once she found Matt and Sam, Pidge had stayed consistent in her behavior and beliefs till the end of the show. She, like Hunk, was a stereotype. She was the nerdy, smart friend, the guy in the chair.

I would have loved to see her do something with botany, like her mother. Something that ties her back to Green. Because even though the Lion is gone, the bond and the respect she gained would have still been there. So for her to just immediately go back to that tech guy was a disservice.

Lance's and Lotor's endings are by far the ones I hated the most. With Lance, there was NO reason that Lance had to become a fucking farmer. After everything that happened to him during the season, for him to immediately quit was ill planned and just a bad move. If they wanted to write Allura out at the end of the series, then sure. Lance steps back to grieve, starts replanting the flowers on New Altea in honor of her.

But Lance has so much more potential than. Make him a pilot, make him a teacher. Hell, pull a Keith and have him volunteer around the planets. Anything that would show off his pride in himself, and to she Allura that he would live his life for her, because she died saving it. Yeah, he can keep a cabin close or in the field, so he always has a memory of her, but he needs something else.

The final season with Lotor was just dumb. The writing had set him up as this exiled prince, who never wanted to be like his father, who watched him blow up a planet that Lotor had spent YEARS on, because his son pissed him off. Lotor killed his father, was conspiring against Haggar, wanted to study Altean alchemy with Allura. He was finally going to learn about his mother's people from those who actually knew her.

And then they make him just like Zarkon.

I. Hate. That they made that planet of Alteans, and Lotor was harvesting them for quintessence. I get they were setting it up for Haggar to use them as pilot in the final season. But there were SO many other ways to do that with a similar affect.

Especially considering the fact that those people had been in hiding since Altea exploded, and Lotor was a fucking baby then. Like...have Haggar keep them hidden instead? It would have made more fucking sense. She still felt a sliver of a connection, despite not knowing why because she lost her memory.

Lotor grew up wishing he could know more about his other side, and having no one to ask about it, because no information remained after the race died. So to satisfy his curiosity, he started studying other cultures, other planets so he could compare. Maybe he'll find something similar to Altea, and can guess from that.

And then, wow, there are Alteans left. And they have Voltron, isn't that so great? But wait, my father want's the Black Lion, and his witch is acting shady. That's odd, I wonder what that's about?

Holy crap, she's been hiding more Alteans for the past 10,000 years, and they have no idea what's been happening outside of their planet. And even more holy crap, she's been harvesting them so they don't get to powerful, and so she can sap up their power for herself. Why didn't anyone know about this?

Then continue on, with Lotor eventually teaming up with the Alteans and liberating them, but obviously they don't all go, because they don't trust him (Galra, duh.) And the ship that is carrying them all is attacked, and the ship explodes, or something. The Alteans get angry and Haggar, now starting to remember and realizes who she is, uses this to her advantage, and now boom, we have the pilots in season 8.

And this way, if you want to keep Keith and Krolia finding the Alteans, you have it. If you want Romelle, you have it. If you want more Alteans living with the Paladins, or at least have Allura and Coran meet them, you have. And of course, Lotor doesn't die. And for his ending, have him and Keith work together. Have him travel the stars, studying the different planets. Have him become a scholar, a archivist, a librarying. Anything! The possibilities are endless.

Now, on to Allura. To be completely honest, and you can burn me for this, I never really loved Allura. It wasn't really anything specific I didn't like, I just didn't grow any strong attachments to her as a character. I felt bad for her, sure. But nothing much outside of that.

But I do believe that she deserved a better ending. Even if she does still die in the end, she shouldn't have had to bounce from guy to guy to hide grief, because that shit was still there. She should have been allowed to continue her relationship with Lotor, because that was cute damn it.

It wasn't fair for her to have been in a relationship for what, a month before she died? It sure as shit wasn't fair to Lance, who had spent the whole series chasing after her, to get her, and see her die directly after. Not cool.

And if the whole reason they did it was to stop Klance, or what the fuck ever people believe they did it, pull a Curtis, give Keith someone else. He meets someone after Allura dies, he settles down, or continues with his red cross in space shtick. Or have him stay single, because some people just don't want a relationship. It doesn't matter because people would have written them together in fanfic anyway.

And last, but certainly not least, Coran.

Coran, the gorgeous man, was done so dirty, it's not even funny. To start from the top, he was the only main cast who didn't get to say goodbye to Allura at the end, and is the sole Altean left who remembers Altea. What the fuck.

Even if they are making New Altea, it's not the same. He lost his child, the only other person who understood the grief of loosing a whole PLANET. Family, friends, homes, graves, photos, memories. Gone. History destroyed, never to truly be brought back. Anything that Coran forgets is gone. Well and truly gone, because the Castleship would have possibly had records still, but that was destroyed when Lotor died.

He doesn't have her crown anymore, because the crystal is in Shiro's prosthetic, he doesn't have the ship, he doesn't have the Lions. All he has are the Paladins, and the mice. And a handful of Alteans who never were on Altea, and probably don't know all the customs he does, because of the 10,000 years difference. That's a pretty shitty ending.

So, long story long, my ending.

Adam doesn't die. He is in the piolet accident, but survives by a miracle. He's in the med bay for the entirety of the final two season, and wakes up during the final stretch of season 8. The whole time, before they leave for space, Shiro has flashbacks to times spent with Adam, and we see Shiro have regrets for going into space. He talks to Keith about retiring after everything is over.

Either Lotor and Allura, or they end things in space and Lance and Allura go on their date (I personally would rute for Lotor and Allura, the are so cute) and get their heartfelt scene, foreshadowing the end of the series.

Hunk reunites with his family, and he watches the people of the camps struggle to get back on their feet, and Hunk help them out however he can. We get a scene of him watching a local soup kitchen that had been swamped with people, and Hunk rolls up his sleeves, make a remark bout cooking with less/weirder items, and knock the people in the soup kitchen off their feet with is food. A shot of him watching everyone eat, and Hunk feels pride, in watching the affects of his food. It's different than feeding his friends, and even different than the parades and the dinners planets through Voltron.

Pidge, who is still grounded for sneaking off to space, spends time in the greenhouse with her mom, watching her work. It reminds her of Reiner, and makes her miss Okyry. She mentions Green and nature to her mom, and her mom jokes back about her finally starting to get into nature. They bond over plants, and Pidge grows a little bit fonder to grass and dirt.

Them space time, series progresses, OMG Haggar is sending mechas after us, and Alteans are the piolets. OMG x2, the piolets are dying , what is happening. Allura, what are you doing with that symbiot, that literally just killed that piolet?

Then, the end.

The multiverse is falling apart, Haggar is going to destroy everything. What do we do?

Lotor, in a desperate final act, confronts Haggar as his mother, finally acknowledging that yes, the woman who he had despised his whole life is he mother. He finally speaks to her as his mother... and denounces her.

Honerva is heartbroken. She curses him, swears that if he will not be her son, then there will be no world period. In retaliation, just like he had his father, Lotor lunges forward, and kills Honerva. As she dies, he cradles her in his arms, and listens as she mumbles about her beautiful son, before finally passing on.

But the events do not end there, because time and space is unraveling apart. They can't fix it, only Allura has an idea, and she's crying. She tells them, and despite everyone's protests, they know what must be done. She says her goodbyes, parting with a kiss to Lotor/Lance, strong hugs to the other Paladins and then...

She turns to Coran, who despite his quietness, has been sobbing the whole time. He pulls her into a hug, face pressed into her curly white hair, breathing in the flower she adored so much, and says their finally goodbyes.

The universe is saved, and everyone grieves a tragic loss. They start traveling back to earth, the Paladins and Coran and Lotor keeping to themselves for the most part, Lance/Lotor barely making it from their room most days, when they come across an alert. A planet that had not been in the charted maps they had, and certainly not in the area they had traveled mear days ago.

Upon closer looking, it looks almost exactly like...Altea.

With the last of her quintessence, Allura had somehow made a new Altea for Coran and the other Alteans to live. Coran breaks down upon seeing a field of flowers that smell like his princess, and imminently starts planning for a tribute for her, right on the top of the hill facing out towards the flowers.

Time skip follows, and Adam waeks up, Shiro asleep at his bedside. Adam, with such slow, shaky movements, wakes up Shiro, and the two finally meet again after years of being apart. Shiro imminently proposes on the spot, not baring to loose the man he loves again.

Keith starts traveling the plants, heling out where he can. The remaining Marmora's help him, tending to villages or injured people, when Hunk asks if he can come too. He wants to help, and he's smart, and strong. And Keith mentions that the best thing these people need is a warm meal, and there's no one who knows that better tank Hunk. So they travel, heling the planets, meeting more people, bonding (Because yeah! Hunk and Keith are the best!)

Pidge is on Altea, helping Lance and Coran with setting up the Alteans. Her electronic skills are unmatched, and she takes this time to pick a couple samples for her mom. Lance catches her, and offers to take her around the fields, and they do. It's peaceful, the sun setting and breeze. The best sunset she'd seen since before Voltron, in her opinion.

Lotor slowly opens back up to the others, grief pushing him away from everyone. Coran is the first he goes to, asking the older man about Allura, and Altea, anything to keep is mind off his loss. Coran indulges him, going on about the old Castel (which still blows up some how, just cant think of it now) and Lotor listens like his life depends on it. After everything is set up on new Altea, Coran askes him to become and advisor, which Lotor accepts.

Then we go to the final scene, which is a couple years in the future. Lance is teaching fighter piolet classes at the Garrison, Shiro is happily married, Keith and Hunk are still red crossing it up in space, Pidge is a Botanists and Cyber Scientist (or whatever the hell she is) and freelances across the universe, and Coran and Lotor are co-advisors for new Altea with Romelle as one in training, which Lotor writing a full, in depth history of the Galran war and Altean history. Nothing will be lost again.

They are at dinner, under Allura's statue, it's growing dark. They finish, they have drinks, and go to bed. Lance wakes up first, in a symbolism for the first episode, him finding his lion first. The others follow, and soon, they are under Allura's statue once again. The lions are all active, which they haven't been since they saved the multiverse. The group watches the Lions stand, and roar, before a shimmering blue figure fades into existence. Allura. She doesn't see them, because she's only there for the Lions, or so the others think. As the Lions start flying into the sky, she turns around, waiving slowly to the Paladins and others, a smile on her face, before fading.

A camera shot of the group on the ground, like the series, zooming out as they all watch the Lions leave, for the final time feeling the connection of Voltron, before the Lions fly through the galaxy, into a new one, in the shape of a woman curled into a ball.

End of series.

Okay, its 6:30 now, I'm going to bed

Do you think James dies a little on the inside every time Keith comes to visit the paladins?Namely having dinner in front of Allura’s statue.(Or at least I think thats on Earth)

Because he DOES have an attachment keeping him tied to Earth, James just isn’t that attachment.

Im p sure Allura’s statue is on New Altea. I think Keith visits earth though, whenever he gets the chance.

Also, i think of Keith and James’ relationship in pretty much the opposite way. James is Keith’s only attachment to earth. When Keith thinks about home he thinks of both the house he grew up in and of James. It’s just that Keith tends to prioritize the needs and wants of everyone else over his own.

In the episode where Pidge wanted to leave voltron to find her family, where Hunk and Lance wanted to go home, Keith also wanted so, so badly to go home to earth. To go home where James is, to forget about this war he didn’t even know existed until he was fighting in it. But with the way he left James, and how he didn’t send even a single text to let James know he was still alive and well, he felt he didn’t deserve to go home, let alone to verbalize his wishes.

And on top of that, he knows that if he were to leave Voltron, Earth would have no protector, and he’d be putting James’ life in jeopardy (along with everyone else on earth ofc).

Keith’s primary love language is acts of service. Back in the Garrison, he liked to peel James’ oranges for him. Both because James sucked at it and because it was something he could do for him.

Becoming a paladin of Voltron, staying in the fight no matter his own desires, was Keith’s greatest act of service to James.

James is ofc devastated about keith leaving earth again to go continue his work in the blades and that he cant follow him. But in my heart Iverson saw this depressing as hell break up (like, Iverson watched them grow up and he saw what a mess James was when keith left the first time. Guys iverson is the real number one Jaith shipper) and decided to pull a few strings and arrange like joint missions between the Garrison and the Blades. Because it’s always better to have some backup fire anyways, 10k years of violent colonization isn’t going to disappear completely after a mere 6 years ykwim. They’re bound to visit dangerous zones and garrison backup could come in extremely handy when they do.

So Iverson sends James out to lead the Garrison portion of literally every single joint meeting, which is quite often. So James and Keith get to do work alongside each other. yay happy ending!!

Shout out to this ask for making me finally update my headcanon masterlist. (also I have some James headcanons there already here and here)

Okay first things first, if you enjoy my Catholic guilt James stuff you HAVE to go check out this art, this art, and this art by my mutual if you haven't already. They bring it to life so well and their technique is just *chefs kiss*.

He can definitely cook, and I see the Arab version enjoys making Arab dishes for his friends. He makes a full mezze (meza? meze? idk I can't write Arabic words in English for shit) for the MFEs first chance he gets.

I'd like to think Hunk and Pidge probably think of James as the smart kid from class that was definitely going places but probably didn't interact with him pre-series to form much more of an opinion on him. Lance probably hates his guts around the start of the series given how much he beefed with Keith. I do think Lance probably calms down and respects him as a pilot by the time the Paladins get back to Earth since he matures A LOT over those two years. As far as Shiro goes, I think James would be a bit of a regret for him. While he would never regret taking Keith in, I do think with how caring he is that he would feel a bit guilty that he brushed off a kid who looked up to him so much.

Hunk walked in on them kissing once, which I'll probably write at some point. Teenage Lance was probably too busy having a one sided rivalry with Keith (and being a bit self absorbed) to notice anything of the sort. Pidge probably knew as I think both James and Keith helped them bust into the Garrison. Shiro had no idea, as they got romantically involved after he disappeared. I have a scene in my main Jaith series where he's actually rather surprised that they're together.

After the Paladins get back, I see them all more or less having a respect for James if not being outright friendly. I think Allura would be really impressed by him when they meet. I mean, she clearly trusted going into combat alongside him.

On James' side, he has a VERY positive opinion of Shiro and never really stopped looking up to him. He respects Pidge's tenacity. Despite the blow-up at Hunk, I do think he also respects Hunk and admires how empathetic he is. Though he doesn't necessarily dislike Lance, he found him irritating back when they were classmates. All that said, I think he does harbor some resentment towards the Paladins as a concept. Chain of command and merit are both something he places high value on. I think the Paladins having some mystical connection giving them authority would definitely strike a nerve, at least at first. He comes around, but yeah I do not see him being thrilled with the concept of divinely granted authority (may or may not tie into his religious trauma oops).

I have some MFE headcanons here. The MFEs are very found family. Kinkade is his best friend and they roomed together all four years at the Garrison. Rizavi would kill for him but is also his number one pain in the ass (she takes very liberal interpretation of James' orders). Leifsdottir became friends with him by following him around vaguely like a lost dog for months their freshman year until he finally asked her what she was doing. They help eachother with math a lot because James is good at calc type stuff while Leifsdottir is more a stats person.

I personally think he's second youngest of four with two older brothers and a little sister. To me there's not way he isn't either a.) the middle youngest b.) an only child treated like a disappointment. He just has those vibes.

Watching Voltron for the 1st time: Ep 1

Hi! For the background on this, check this post, but tl;dr is that the kiddo I tutor assigned me this show as my homework (it's only fair I guess if I get to assign her geometry problems). I'm watching it unspoiled (please let me keep it that way). Here are my thoughts so far!

The Good:

LOVED the character designs. Distinct and cute. Very much the platonic ideal of a DnD group

GLENN FROM THE WALKING DEAD??? HI!

Allura is so pretty and I am so gay.

Shiro and Keith have the sweetest relationship I love mutual support and trust

On the whole I like that there's seemingly 2 separate little groups within the big group of 5! I think it makes for a good dynamic that they're not all just thrown together. Though I do love the one-sidedness of Lance having beef with Keith and Keith not knowing who tf he is. Real.

Pidge having that single-minded drive to go find family? Amazing. I love that.

I feel like they're setting up a Sokka-esque character arc for Lance. Or at least, I hope. I don't love the hitting on Allura he's doing but if they pay it off it'll be worth it for me.

I hope they go back to earth and explore the Galaxy Garrison thing more in depth! Would love to see a flashback to before the mission to Kerberos

The uh... Less Good

I think for my sanity I need to ignore the made up science. "Fraunhofer lines" being a desert mountain range is up there with the knife map in the last Star Wars movie. I know this is nitpicky but oh well, it is what it is.

I think some of the humor is rubbing me the wrong way. Especially with Hunk. I hope they shift away from that :\

On a similar vein to that, don't love Lance's attitude towards Allura and really hope they're going to have him grow past that, bc otherwise this is going to be a bit of a hard watch for me

This is a relatively small thing, but it did kind of bug me how you can still see the outlines of stuff under the hair. I know it's an art style choice, it's just not one I care for personally, haha.

I'm a big fan of purple. Unfortunately, the show has used purple for the villains. Big loss for me

On the whole this was a really cute opener I think. A little cheesey and hokey, and I think they could do with a little bit more showing for personality and a lot less telling, but I get that it's a pilot and they had to get everyone to their lions and in position. I think they did a great job setting up interpersonal relationships with the characters too. Keith and Shiro are a super strong duo, and the Hunk/Lance/Pidge trio was a great focal point for the opener. Excited to see them all get time to shine.

This wasn't so bad! It was a promising opening! I really hope it stays that way and all the warnings I got about this show from people who weren't the kiddo I tutor were the result of too much hype for something that was ultimately a kids show. I'll see if I have time later tonight to watch some more episodes, but on the whole this was just fine!

So far I think I really like Pidge the most, but definitely think Keith & Shiro will be getting a lot of screen time (also how silly is it for a sci fi show protagonist to be named Keith lol. I've somehow never met a Keith in real life before. How fun)

"Hey..." He holds you to him, voice rumbling through your bones, "I'm here. I won't leave you again."

You know better than to believe that. Still...

"Do--do you promise?" You hiccup, tears blurring out the stars behind him as he pulls away just enough to cradle your head in both hands. He smiles, leaning forward to kiss your forehead, your nose. Then, he leans against you.

"I promise."

(Shiro left someone behind before Kerberos. Now, he's come back. Things will never be the same again.) [Written at the end of Season 2, before we knew Adam existed. Sequel to Promise]

Sunrise comes in a wash of colors and warmth, light restored to the world. To your world. In the dawn light that filters through Keith's tiny bathroom window, Shiro's even more of a mess than before, sharp lines and tired eyes that drink in the sight of empty scrub desert and messy shack. It's like watching a blind man see for the first time, finally understanding what everyone takes for granted.

He's thinner, too. Covered in scars that speak of months of fights. Claw marks, ragged wounds healed improperly. The thin marks that can only be from a scalpel or something like that. Small, perfect holes that speak of projectile weaponry. You catalogue each one, mind going end over end as you snip and shave his hair, Keith bark and bluster just outside the bathroom door.

A lot can happen in a year, you think to yourself, but this is...something else entirely.

"What happened?" You finally get the nerve to ask, the fine strands of his hair clinging to your fingers as you finish up. He's tense, metal and flesh hands grasping at his knees, dressed in his own clothes that Keith had stored here. He stares at the floor, but his eyes are distant, staring into a space where you can never stand, and perhaps...never understand.

"I don't remember." His voice is soft, barely a whisper. "I don't...there's this..." He takes a breath, in through his nose, out through his mouth. He looks up at you through the mirror, through the shock of white hair you weren't sure how to cut. The morning sun casts odd shadows on his face. Your stomach churns again. "There's this black hole in my memory. I remember leaving the Garrison, the launch, getting to Kerberos, but after..." He closes his eyes. "Just...flashes. Nothing I can put together."

Trauma, supplies the bookish part of your brain. This time you don't shush it, taking in the lines of his starved body, the scars on his flesh. Your stomach churns, and you swallow it down. Maybe it's better he can't remember.

"Well." You say, then have to clear your throat. You reach down for his hands, flesh and metal alike. The temperature difference is stark, but his grip is gentle as he closes his fingers around yours. "What really matters is you're home. We can figure out the rest as we go."

He smiles at you, kissing your palm.

"Business as usual, huh?"

"Business as usual."

---- Except it's not. It's really not. Things go to hell in a handbasket faster than you can say your own name.

What happens after...well. Half the time you're still not quite sure. --- Half-sentient, ancient battle lions. One of whom has been sitting, on Earth, for ten thousand years.

Actual aliens. Actual talking, walking, breathing aliens. Spaceships. A corrupting empire spreading across the stars like a plague.

Pidge, Lance, Hunk. Keith. Shiro. Destined to fight it in a legendary space robot like something out of a mecha anime, even if half the time they can all barely get along. Maybe that's half the point, you think to yourself, standing on the Arusian hillside just outside the Castle. Unfamiliar stars whirl overhead, not a single constellation marked in the clear skies.

You never did end up finding Mars that night. Now, you wouldn't have a single clue where to look.

"You know," Shiro says, causing you to turn around to see him walking up the hill behind you., "I was thinking about it, and..."

"Yeah?"

"I kept my promise." He smiles. "I came back."

You can't help it. You laugh. His smile only widens as he comes to stand beside you, shoulder warm beneath your arm as you have to reach out for support. Laughter shakes your sides, your shoulder, your throat. Slowly, it gives way to tears. The grief of the past year clogs your throat, burns your eyes.

For a year he was gone. Dead. His name is carved on a memorial for Progress into the stars, stars humanity will never understand are so much bigger than they ever could have imagined. For a year, you mourned him, mourned the color pulled out of your life with Shiro, and now...

Now he is back, the color has returned, and it hurts. You can't breathe for the pain of it, the heaving sobs that wrack your body and bring you both to your knees. He pulls you in to a hug, cradling your head against his shoulder, warm and so very alive.

"Hey..." He holds you to him, voice rumbling through your bones, "I'm here. I won't leave you again."

You know better than to believe that. Still...

"I promise."

You should know better than to believe that. Still, as he holds you to his chest and lets you learn that he's alive again, you find yourself believing it anyway.

Maybe that's what makes what comes after so much harder.

OKAY HERE WE GO

So we had a good discussion and here's some things we came up with that could improve the writing of the show explained in a little too much detail because I'm terrible at summarising -

Fleshing out the worldbuilding of Altea and Daibazaal giving the main two races the series talks about depth instead of the Galra being "bad" and the Altaeans being "good"

Having the Altaean alchemy magic system actually make sense and be less of a soft magic system

Hunk actually having a character arc

Making the discovery of the lions a little longer and more meaningful instead of rushing finding every lion except the blue one so it reinforces that only certain paladins can fly certain lions

Adding more "show don't tell" instead of explaining everything through dialogue

Showing more actual bonding between the paladins

Shiro needs to bond with the paladins more before he dies, he's literally the "space dad" AND the leader of Voltron

Coran could have had more character, even if he is meant to be comic relief

Klance had potential to be canon, logically it works better than Allurance looking at how the characters interact in the show

If they were desperate to include Allurance they should have actually built up to it more

The whole killing off Adam thing sucked. Keep him alive and develop their relationship even after they break up

SHIRO SHOULDN'T HAVE BEEN PAIRED UP WITH CURTIS WITH NO DEVELOPMENT PURELY TO HAVE A GAY CHARACTER DREAMWORKS WTF

Some of it seemed to just be trying to show us cool aliens and spaceships - the atlas becoming a mech via Altaean magic and somehow being connected to Shiro made no sense even if he had the crystal in his arm

Also there were so many different planets and aliens that showed up for literally just a single episod and little holidays like "Clear Day" would have been even cooler had they been developed more

The show could be aimed at a slighter older audience and explore some darker themes more as well

There needs to either be some kind of translator or some kind of universal language because otherwise how can all the literal different alien species communicate

Could flesh out the cultural background of the characters more

Altaean Lance makes no sense so it either needs explaining or removing

The literal main villain should not die at the end of season 2 and Haggar's plan could have been revealed earlier if she was still gonna be the main villain at the end

After he dies Shiro doesn't feel the same, could have been more impactful if Shiro stayed dead instead of there being a minimally explained clone (or multiple as we find out)

Allura experiencing little to no consequence usually after using magic but having to sacrifice herself to save all of the universes makes it feel unnecessary and unimpactful

Make Lance's almost-death angstier. He literally nearly died

The Garrison crew or even what was happening on Earth before the start of the series could have been shown more, more pre-Voltron paladins

Character backstories could also have been developed more

Shiro's trauma seems to disappear and he loses some of his personality after he dies

Keith's abandonment issues disappear when his mother comes back and that is not how that works either

Logically Keith would know Pidge or at least Matt because Keith knew Shiro and Shiro knew Matt and Sam

Keith briefly mistaking Pidge for Matt could be an entertaining scene

Using the potential for a trans/non binary character and not making Pidge a girl could be really interesting

Letting Lance actually work through his insecurities instead of falling right back into them and ending the series depressed and longing for the past

Shiro needs to take on more a caretaker role but also people need to take care of him - he can't ignore his trauma forever

I think that's most of it but I can explain more about any of it if anyone's curious !

I keep meaning to post about a conversation I had with a dear mutual @thefinestkilljoy the other day but I have never gotten around to it-

We were basically discussing Voltron and some of the things that were not done well and some ideas for alternative plot points and stuff.

fic rec friday 10

welcome the the tenth fic rec friday! where, on friday, i rec five of my favourite fics.

1. A Rain-Check on Redamancy by @youraveragemushroom

Burnout these days usually came from working long nights at the Garrison. If Lance from five years ago could see himself today—working part-time to rebuild Earth and full-time as an instructor at the very same institution that gave him his crippling anxieties—he would probably shit a brick. Hell, five years ago he hadn’t even known aliens existed (although he always knew deep down that humans weren’t alone in the universe), and now he’s best friends with multiple! One of which had apparently texted him an hour ago.

Forgoing proper texting procedure due to fatigue and general doneness, Lance tapped on the icon to call back.

“Hello?” a familiar deep rasp answered from the other line.

“Hey, mullet,” Lance replied, pushing aside the papers in front of him to lay his head down on the desk. “What’s cooking?”

In which Lance finds himself ignoring how late it is and indulges himself in pining after Keith. Which becomes slightly more difficult when said object of his affections shows up in the middle of the night to rescue him from paperwork, stress, and the melancholy that came from being away from him.

the ‘god i wish you were here’ ‘look behind you’ trope will get to me EVERY single time idc. always makes me all stimmy bc its THE epitome of romance. this whole thing was so so romantic and full of parallels to the first episode to show how deep their relationship has gotten...i love me some romantic parallels fr

2. sweetheart by @jilliancares

“Sorry, babe,” Keith says. He even smiles, no doubt proud of himself.

And Lance knows it’s his fault. He started it, after all, but at least the biting term of endearment made sense when he was the one doing it. Keith had been talking to him like they were some old married couple. The kind who’ve been married too long and don’t love each other anymore and gripe over meaningless shit, only managing to piss each other off even further.

That’s why Lance called him dear. Because it made sense in the situation. It was a calculated insult. A strategic jab.

Keith, on the other hand, is weaponizing the term of endearment without any rhyme or reason, simply to get back at Lance.

Or: Keith and Lance have gotten into the habit of using pet names as condescending insults. They're not really terms of endearment.

ooooooo god endearments going from sarcastic to desperately genuine and the inherent hopelessness in that....whew boy. its def a Concept that u indulge and then you have to clutch ur stomach. i remember reading this as i was getting ready and brushing my teeth and the cliff scene made me gasp out loud and stop just to i could pay Full Complete Attention

3. don’t speak the language by @goldengalaxies

“More importantly” Lance says. “I am currently having a breakdown in this lift because look at him- I am so incredibly gay.”

“Lance!” Hunk buries his face in his hands. “He could speak English you know, your skills of deduction are really not that good.”

Lance ignores his warning in favour of groaning dramatically. “Oh, Dios mio, Hunk, he’s so gorgeous. Look at those muscles. He could probably bench press me.” Lance fanned himself. “Oh my God, fencing is my new favourite sport, fuck swimming.”

(or the one where Lance thirsts after a random guy in the lift who he thinks can’t speak English. lance is very wrong and hunk is very much done with his shit.)

let me tell u about this fuckin FIC. it’s hilarious, but i first read it before i meticulously started storing and bookmarking my fave fics, so when i wanted to reread it i couldnt find it. but i KNEW it was hilarious so i spent fckn hours looking for it, and it took me hours too bc i coulnt figure out which tags to filter. but it was WORTH IT. the entire concept of this fic is hilarious and makes me laugh. amazing work.

4. Whose bright idea was this? by IronScript

When Lance is captured during a mission with the MFE pilots, he wakes up aboard Haggar's ship, though the witch herself isn't there, so he figures why waste an opportunity? Then he finds something that he definitely hadn't expected.

All the while, he has no idea that back at the Garrison, his team and a few select others are watching his every move.

bro the idea that the team is panicked for lance’s safety and they desperately organise a rescue mission for him terrified that hes getting tortured and losing hope but by the time they find him he’s already got one foot out the door and has rescued himself is ENDLESSLY funny to me. like he really said ‘damsel in distress who’ and i love him for that lmao

5. Garfle! Warfle! Snick! by IronScript

How the game show episode actually should have happened.

I'll admit to being a Lance stan, but even people who don't like him seem to agree that he was really fucked over in this episode. So here's my attempt at it. Is it more realistic than what actually happened? I like to think so.

another ironscript fic bc they nail bamf lance. this is how the gameshow WOULD have gone if vld gave a shit about their characters like actually. like yes of course the team is proud of each other and capable of acknowledging mistakes. of course keith knows lance’s worth. of course lance is a badass. of course the team knows wtf theyre doing. love to read this when i get mad about the game show

Just A Prank

Ok hear me out, this just popped into my head. When the team gets to properly meet Adam, one of them makes a comment about how similar he and Shiro are to Keith and Lance, but (probably Pidge) says no way cause they would never date or even stand each other enough to be friends, so obviously klance takes it personally and a week or two later they announce their relationship. they don't even plan out a break out or anything they are just trying to prove a point lol. Idk

I made a post a bit ago regarding a fake dating klance fic. The idea above ^^^ was given by @fluffy-and-boney

Lance looked towards the ground, trying to keep his eyes trained away from where Shiro and Adam were hugging. A moment he felt like others shouldn’t be observing. They had just had their final meeting with Pidge's father and finally were all able to reunite with their family and loved ones. Hunk and Lance were waiting for their family to make their way to the Garrison so they were left seeing Pidge's family and Adam.

“So do you know this guy?” Lance whispered to his fellow red paladin.

Keith gave a stiff nod, his eyes also looking anywhere but at the men hugging and whispering to each other. “Adam is a good guy.”

It would take some time for the other family members to appear so they all ate dinner together. Lance would be lying if he said he didn’t think Adam and Shiro weren’t cute. It was just weird seeing Shiro be so affectionate around others.

While they ate, he had his arm wrapped around Adam, placing small kisses on his cheek as the conversation flowed. They were sweetly adorable.

As the weeks went by Adam had become an adoptive member of the Voltron family. He joined in on meal times, hiking trips, and even meetings around the planet as they helped rebuild what the Galra destroyed. Shiro soon became Shiro and Adam, two peas in a pod. You could not have one without the other.

“I just think they’re adorable!” Hunk placed his hands on his cheek and he gushed over Shiro and Adam spinning each other around on the dance floor. It had been a year since they had returned to Earth and they had finally tied the knot.

“You know, they kinda remind me of you two,” Matt nudged Lance, Keith giving him an unreliable expression.

“Oh please, like Keith and Lance could compete with those two! They’re barely on a friendship level.” Pidge snickered a light-hearted joke.

Lance found his eyes shifting over to the raven-haired boy next to him. He didn’t consider them rivals anymore and after the years had passed he had come to view Keith as someone who could trust. Someone he could rely on for everything. Someone who always had his back. He knew Keith felt the same back. Yet, Pidge was right, their “friendship” was still a bit rocky. They could trust and rely on each other without being buddy-buddy.

He couldn’t help but feel as though Keith was bothered by Pidge's statement. They both had matured from the time they were initially launched into space, yet that competitive spirit still flickered in both of them.

“As if they would ever date Pidge,” Hunk threw his drink back, laughing as Matt struggled to do the same.

Lance forced a friendly chuckle out, noticing how Keith’s jaw seemed to tighten a bit. A plan quickly formed in his head and a smirk flashed quickly across his face. He just needed to get mullet on board.

“Keith,” he grabbed the other boy's wrist as he walked by, clearly turning in for the night.

“Uh, hi.”

Lance released his hold on the other boy and crossed his arms. “How would you feel about a prank?” His eyes flickered with his trademark mischievous glint.

Keith stared at the other boy, “I think you had too much to drink. Maybe you should head to bed, come on I’ll walk-”

“Just listen to me.”

“Uh, sure.”

Lance looked around, making sure no one was eavesdropping. “Let’s fake date.”

Keith blinked a couple of times, confusion plaguing his entire body. “What?”

“Think about it,” Lance placed his hands on the other boy's shoulders. “What Pidge said sounded like a challenge. We can’t be as cute as Shiro and Adam? I think we could be cuter.”

“That bothered you that badly?”

Lance rolled his eyes, “don’t act like it didn’t bother you, I saw your jaw tighten.”

“I don’t like you like that.”

“Neither do I. That’s why it’s fake.”

Keith didn’t reply for a bit, but before Lance could try to sell his prank more he quickly turned and walked down the hall. Ignoring Lance’s calls for him to listen to him.

Lance woke up to someone pounding on his door. He swore under his breath as he stumbled to the door. Maybe Keith was right, he did have too much to drink last night. He opened up the door, rubbing his eyes, “what?!”

Keith stood, his body relaxed and hair dripping; clearly, his couple of drinks didn’t stop him from his morning workout. “You need to learn how to be a morning person,” he pushed past him, walking to stand by the other's bed.

Lance closed the door, mocking the other boy under his breath. “Maybe you shouldn’t knock at ungodly hours.”

“It’s 10 am.” His voice was deadpanned.

“Too early,” he grabbed his robe that was hung on the closet door, throwing it around his body with a huff. “What did you want?”

Keith focused his attention on him, “I thought about your prank, and I’m in.”

Lance gave him a confused look, “huh?”

Keith gave him an uncomfortable look, “don’t tell me that you don’t remember.”

Lance shook his head, “of course, I remember. I didn’t expect you to agree.”

Keith shrugged, “I think it could be fun.”

“Keith Kogane,” he walked towards the other boy who stiffened a bit as he threw his arm over his shoulder. “You actually want to have fun?”

He groaned, “nevermind.” He tried to walk away but Lance pulled him down on the bed unexpectedly.

“I’m kidding, I’m kidding. Look, I think we could totally pull this off.”

Keith shoved the other man off him, “get off me.”

Lance rolled onto his back, Keith laying next to him “so what are the rules?”

“Rules?”

“Yeah like, boundaries. Kissing, holding hands, things like that.”

Keith was silent for a bit, “what do you think.”

Lance hummed, he didn't mind taking charge of the rules. “If we’re going to sell it to the team we’re going to need to show some physical affection. Hand holding, arms around each other, cuddles when we do team movies nights.”

Keith shivered beside him and Lance felt a small pain in his heart. He knew he was never good at physical affection, had even dated anyone before?

“We can take it slow, maybe just hand holding?”

“We don’t have to kiss on the lips right?”

Lance laughed, “no we don’t.” He felt the other boy relax drastically next to him. “Let’s wait before we announce anything. If we say it now the team might think we hooked up or something.”

Keith grunted, “it’s too close to Pidge's comment anyways.”

“Agreed, let’s give it a week.”

They ended up waiting two weeks before executing step one of their plan; tell the team they're a couple. They had discussed a couple of different ways of doing it, some being subtle and others being more straightforward.

The more Lance thought about it, the more he realized they never settled on a plan. The night before Keith said he was ready for everything to start so it was up to Lance to make the first official move. He strolled into the dining room, the team sitting around eating some food Hunk’s mom cooked for them.

The seat next to Keith was open and Lance fought back a smile. Perfect. He flopped down next to the other boy, giving the team a friendly nod, and draped his arm on the back of Keith’s chair. “Morning babe.”

The room went silent in seconds, Adam dropping his fork on the ground as everyone froze in place. Lance reached forward and put up some food on his empty plate. “This looks great, thanks, Mrs. Garret!” He started eating the various foods, seeming unaware of the confusing tension in the room.

“Oh my god babe have you tried this?” He held up the muffin he was chewing at the other boy.

Keith shook his head and Lance broke off a small piece, “open wide!!”

He could tell he was reluctantly obliging and opened his mouth, chewing slowly. “Good right?”

Keith nodded and mumbled a small thanks.

“I’m sorry, what is happening?” Shiro asked, his eyes darting between the two boys.

“Oh, this? Keith and I are dating.”

The reaction of everyone else was priceless, already making the prank worth wild. Hunk’s jaw was almost on the floor, Pidge choking on her drink. Adam and Shiro both had shocked expressions and Hunk's mom congratulated the new development.

“WHAT?! I DON’T BELIEVE THIS!” Pidge stood from her chair, pointing at the two. “Lance, you’re lying! Keith, tell me he’s lying.”

Keith’s face had a tint of red to it and he cleared his throat, “we’re dating.”

Lance intertwined their hands together and lifted them up to show the others. “See?”

A loud gasp filled the room and he smiled at Keith. Oh yeah, this was going to be fun.

The days turned into weeks which turned into months and Lance and Keith were still fake dating. Both of them were committed to the prank. Keith slowly opened up and became more affectionate. The first time he called Lance a pet name and hugged him Shiro walked into a wall due to his disbelief.

They focused on mimicking the married couple. When Shiro and Adam were tangled up with each other during group movie night, Lance and Keith sat closer. One movie night Keith actually sat on Lance’s lap the entire time.

They went on “dates” together, even having a double date with Shiro and Adam. They both checked in with each other every night, discussing what was going well, how the others were reacting to them, etc. Lance had slowly moved into Kieth’s room. While Keith slept on the floor most of the time (by his own choice), sometimes they woke up next to each other. But that’s what friends did. Lance was confident they were finally friends.

They only had one frazzled moment when Pidge demanded they kiss to really prove that they were dating; they knew she would be the hardest to sell. Lance tried to fumble out and excuse by Keith cut him off saying, "its just a kiss right?" Lance took the initiative and gently cupped the other boy's face, closing his eyes as he leaned forward.

Keith’s lips were softer than he expected and the squeak he made was permanently saved to his memory. It was a brief kiss, but long enough to sell their “relationship.”

“Is everything okay?” Lance asked from where he lay on Keith’s bed, watching the other boy pace back and forth.

Lance titled his head, he hadn't seen Keith this frazzled in a long time. "Yeah."

Keith ran his fingers through his hair, “that kiss was just for the prank right?"

Keith bobbed his head, his posture not relaxing. "Okay, as long as she believes us now.”

Lance nodded, trying to figure out why Keith’s skin was tinted red.

“You two seriously have been together a full year!” Hunk gasps as he places the last dish for breakfast down.

“Yup! And I’ve loved every second of it.” He flashed a smile at Keith. “Have you babe?”

Keith nodded.

“What are you two going to do for your one year?” Shiro asked as he sipped on his coffee.

“Dinner and a walk around the city, maybe a kiss under the stars.”

Breakfast went on smoothly but Lance found himself thinking about Keith. Their relationship had grown over the year. Sure, dating was a joke but they had become really good friends over the time spent together. And Keith was attractive, he had taken a couple of glances when he changed his shirt in the room. And yeah, maybe Lance wished they could kiss again or display affection, not for the sake of others.

Okay, maybe Lance had a small, very tiny crush on Keith. Maybe a part of him wished they could properly date. He pushed the thoughts aside, it was all just a prank.

They weren’t lying about their dinner plans, they had made a reservation at a local restaurant. They chatted back and forth and kept true to their word of walking around the city. Neither of the boys could tell you what they were talking about or who made the first move but their hands slowly intertwined together as they walked.

No one was around to see it, it was just them but neither of them dropped their hands. Lance looked down at their hands as they reached the base; waiting for Keith to let go. Neither of them did. Keith kept his eyes trained at their hands, his fingers tightening slightly. They met each other's eyes, the atmosphere changing slightly as they locked eyes.

“Just a prank right?”

Lance nodded, feeling a bit tongue-tied, “yeah.”

Keith leaned up and placed a kiss on his cheek, “happy one year then.”

They ended up laying next to each other, Keith drifting off to sleep first; his arm wrapped around Lance’s core. He smiled to himself, this was the best prank he had ever had in his life.
