Haha, you see…I already finished everything actually! I have gotten through the whole show including the movie and Future (just finished it yesterday!). I was planning on making posts giving my overall thoughts for each season, but I’ve only done that for season 1A so far 😭 I gotta get back on that rip

My general thoughts though are that I love and enjoy the show so much!!! I kept hearing about it while it was still airing, but I never got the chance to properly watch it until now. I knew the show had a bad rep (for very dumb and inaccurate reasons), but that didn’t stop me from wanting to check it out! And I was pleasantly surprised. Everything was just great quality all around (character writing and designs, backgrounds, soundtrack ESPECIALLY SOUNDTRACK)

It was fun going through each episode while theorizing about certain things (such as Rose Quartz being Pink Diamond), where I was trying to connect the pieces and predict what’ll happen, but some stuff still threw me for a loop lmao aka all the Pearl stuff. My reaction to A Single Pale Rose was just me losing my mind tbh LMAOOO and there are so many episodes that will stay in my mind for a while fr

My favorite characters are Pearl, Garnet, and Lapis! Absolutely love how they were written, Pearl especially (my friend sold me on her since the beginning lmao), and despite the ending being clearly rushed, I don’t blame them for that because of what was happening at the time. Also, even if it did feel rushed, they still executed it pretty well imo? With the episodes that they had to work with. My only real complaint is how they handled White Diamond and her character, but it’s not like they could’ve done much with that tbh. Blue, Yellow, and Pink are already a delight so that complaint doesn’t bother me too much lol. Also shout out to Pink/Rose for being so well written that people couldn’t handle her being complex/morally grey lmao, she’s great. It’s so cool to her character be explored in reverse, with learning how she ended up and then going back and seeing how she was before in the beginning THE SHOW DID SO GOOD WITH SHOWING THAT OMG

I loved the movie a lot! Spinel is very fun as a character (also damn did that scene/song where Pink leaves her is heart wrenching), and also just the general musical format of the movie itself was very enjoyable (coming from someone who loves musicals and singing lol). I have to go back and listen to the whole soundtrack again from this, all the songs were just so fucking good omg

And I loved Future a lot too! I think they could’ve done more with the series, but they tied up things pretty well, especially with the second half focusing solely on Steven. It was what his character very much needed after the original series ended. Overall, I loved watching all of it! It was an amazing experience fr 🙏

Ok so it's not just me going crazy feeling like both of them pulled away from the fandom.

Like we had them liking buddie Halloween art and costumes and then suddenly 8A ended and it was like poof.

Buddie fandom. Who's that. Never heard of them lol.

But I guess it makes sense they would want to get some boundaries set up. They are going to be getting a lot of attention for sure.

But then I go around and around in my head on it because it's so clear from what we've seen like how much Oliver has wanted to engage with the fandom but couldn't/wouldn't because he didn't wanna be accused of queerbaiting when it wasn't going to happen. That now if it is you'd think he'd be wanting to engage even more instead of pulling back. So it just confuses me 😂

Well, I think this one is two-fold:

First, Lou and the Tommy fandom crossed too many lines and boundaries over the last year to the point where the show and ABC had to step in and take action.

They had to block some of these people on the official Instagram account for God's sake. That is not normal behaviour. And while I'm sure that they have had to block some more extreme Buddie fans in the past, it's nothing compared to droves of crazy people spamming each official post with inane and nonsensical hashtags about T and BT. Or them sending the showrunner, actors and crew crazy DMs about a fictional ship.

Lou made his unhinged cameos which really put Oliver in a tight spot. He got the brunt of the BT shit dumped on him, because Lou was talking to his side of the fandom and telling them his insane headcanons and lies, while Oliver didn't interact with the BT fans at all. The reason why Oliver didn't interact with these fans is because he knew that BT wouldn't last. He has spoken up before on the fact that he refused to bait people with a ship. But these people just didn't understand that and started blaming everyone under the sun (showrunners, actors and Buddie fans alike) for being homophobic and biphobic. We all do remember the crazy 4-hour long podcast where a few Tommies trashed Oliver, right?

Then there is the insane Ryan hate they keep advocating. They keep spewing out the most racist vile shit about the man. They question him being a good father and some of these people were actually talking about 'deporting' him out of the country. How is that normal???

So of course this will have consequences for the show and the actors. The actors have seen the darker side of fandom and have wisely stepped away and distanced themselves from that. It's natural and normal that they will be more cautious from here on out to interact with fans.

Second, Oliver has never shied away from openly telling people that he's all for Buddie happening. And just a couple of months ago, during 8a, in an interview with PinkNews, he openly talked about Buddie. So I don't think he's pulling away entirely here.

Buddie is happening in 8b, that much is clear. So obviously they want to build up the suspense around that. It's logical that they'll stay away from the Buddie-talk for a while up until the moment when it will be revealed that Buck's confusion in 7x04 was never really about Tommy, but about Eddie. (Oh sweet vindication! 😏)

So I do think that, as soon as it will become clear that Buddie is happening, both Oliver and Ryan will be more open towards the fandom again. They might not have crazy joint interviews anymore where they reveal how they send each other edits and how they cry in the shower over them. But I do think they'll discuss the fandom in a more appreciative way and that they might again like some fanart and stuff online.

They know very well just how long we've been patiently waiting on the sidelines for Buddie to finally happen. Hell, they have been waiting for the same amount of time as us. They know exactly how we feel.

So in conclusion, they have put up some healthy boundaries, which was absolutely necessary. But I don't believe for one second that Oliver and Ryan aren't impatiently waiting on the sidelines until they can FINALLY talk openly about the Buddie-elephant in the room. 😄

i hope you don't mind me piggybacking off this ask to share my reasoning for their roles :^) i realize i never shared it anywhere JSDHSF (long post under cut) (there's art i promise)

the lion: siffrin and isa!! of course!! The base of a lion usually needs to be strong and steady, traits that fit isabeau very well :) i think he'd also appreciate being reliable/having to be relied on so much, and supporting sif in putting themselves out there in performance. Siffrin also probably weighs like, nothing to him, so that's a plus LOL.

Siffrin would be the head, not only bc they're quick and agile, but also bc I think they'd give the lion a fun personality! I think having the costume to hide behind would help him come out of his shell more :] (and my personal hc is that the island is SE asian in some way, so a fun way to connect to his culture as well, even if he doesn't remember it </3)

i drew them with a fut san lion (just 'cause its easier for me LOL) but i think they'd perform hok san!

the buddha: loop... i think they'd appreciate the ability to look out for sif and isa and keep them safe, while also messing around and being part of the performance themself !! they'd love any opportunity to annoy siffrin anyway HSDJHSDF also something something... universe's cosmic joke being the comedic relief role......

drum: originally i gave the role of drummer to bonnie, but now i'd probably hand the role to either mirabelle, to carry over her leader position in the group, or odile, since she's the most senior member! definitely leaning towards mirabelle though. i like the idea of her being the heart of the party :)

other instruments: odile is on gong, based purely off of vibes. tell me odile wouldn't pop off with the gong. also, she's probably familiar with it already! bonnie gets symbols because that's JUST like banging pots and pans together, which i'm sure they have plenty of. honestly, they could just bang actual pots and pans together LOL. they'd have fun with it :)

So. I mentioned in the tags of one of my first posts back that I had to announce a few things that'd probably lose me some followers, but like I don't blame anyone if you do skedaddle because I know most of you are here for the monkie (totally understandable tho)

That being said I am no longer hyperfixated on jttw/Sun Wukong and that likely won't happen again for a while cause main the thing that caused me to clock out for so long kinda left a bad taste in my brain. However I will eventually come back to it. I can guarantee that. It just won't be for a hot minute (maybe who knows I can't control my brain lol)

As for the 10 billion asks I have in my inbox rn I'll be taking screen shots of the ones that have to do with monkie and such and putting them in a folder so that when I DO get back into jttw I'll just immediately start with those. So yeah if you sent me a really long ask FEAR NOT!😃 for I refuse to get rid of any of them 🥰

With that information tho, I never really intended for this to be just a monkie blog that's just what my hyperfixation had been on since I started. But I also tried to force that hyperfixation to stay way longer than I should have so that I could keep making content that my followers would like which is a part of the reason why I needed a break for so long. I wore myself out, and I needed to convince myself that it was okay for me to make content that makes me happy too. 😌

Tho unfortunately that does mean all my current projects will be on hold and I'll be updating the titles on ao3 soon to On Hiatus. 😔

oh wow... has it already been like idk... two weeks? it's kind of insane to think about... originally i wanted to do it every week, but a lot of stuff has happened since my last log..

but i released the demo! wip! you can find it here!

anyway... now to actually get into my mental state and where i was at progress wise during the last two weeks

so! i left off in an optimistic spirit, while i was mentally in a downpour and feeling waves of hppelessness.... i also was positive of the future! i had to do some cuts in terms of cutting off legs but....

as soon as i finished that devlog, i ended up just... really really going through it mentally...

i was both tired, fatigued, and like all over the place even more. i had started to write but i was insecure about my story and the pacing and if i was even doing a good job. i was worried about if the story i was telling would even be interesting or if the designs were hot enough, attractive enough... i was wondering if i was doing justice to characterization, too?

that also was the fact i just felt like giving up completely LMFAO

i was powering through, and i wasn't progressing in ways that i want to... hell what can i show for it other than writing? that you can see in the game!

but anyway, i started working on the key art and this is where i spiraled again LOL wow... me and spiraling... is it professional to express all this? i dont know...

and this is where i was unraveling... you see i started out mapping stuff out ( i dont have the screenshots i dont think of the part before i fixed stuff but like its okay these are some i sent to my friends LOL ) but the third pic is where i hated it... i had to go to sleep cause i just wanted to cry

i felt like i was struggling with both trying to improve my art, stay consistent, but also develop an art style all at once in the same frame and that sort of progression... is hard? scary... terrifying... it made my heart totally break

but! i perservered!

and WHAM! i started getting somewhere with the help of amazing community of friends who i just spammed LMFAO like "pls i need it to look like clouds...." and also just in general to make sure i was on the right track with vibes...

i finally felt a little satisfied though it still didnt match the other cains i drew/other love interests but eh... honestly consistency is a hurdle i will have to learn how to get over eventually, i was looking at this game development process as not a fun experience but as a job and that was really fucking with my creative process

AND I SWEAR I WAS COOKING THOUGH! once i was getting into a roll, but my progress still felt abysmal with all the things i wanted to achieve: good writing, good story, attractive characters..

i felt i was lagging behind my peers, i felt like i was making a fool of myself. who am i even trying to make games yanno? i'm just a sort of like... artist who struggles to even draw everyday. which doesn't mean im impassionate... i think i am passionate...

it's just a battle...

that and irl i have to take care of the household in terms of chores and the like, i only have so much mental bandwidth... it was hard to socialize some days cause i just felt like i was disappointment... would i even be able to finish in time?

well from the beginning of this log, it's clear i did finish something! aided w/ the power of friendship and eternal shounen determination LOL yes. call me naruto ( don't but funfact in elementary my friends called me ichigo kurosaki )

once again, i had to take an art break, here's my art from 2022 ( the subview ) versus 2025! i'm so happy with my progres even if the sketch i made was kinda shitty too LMFAO i do have plans for a project featuring this character, a little devil ( he'll be in a game with anathema... i'll take about anathema in another post one day, my precious baby )

either way, i found it easy to compare everyones progress to mine... like wow other people are able to be so organized and cool and i struggle with it... even checking off lists, it's hard for me? i felt all over the place, sinking into a pit that i created myself and that i was just showcasing the worst parts of me...

even though thats not true.

honestly i was incredibly worried people wouldn't like cain, the mc, he's like so pivotal to the story it'd be kind of hard to rework the entire story because cain is like... pivotal, i'd just have to write a completely different story...

but the show must go on, i kept making things.

honestly, in real life was a strong part of why i felt kinda crappy. even online, being busy so much and not socializing w/ key people that i usually socialize with was such a damper on my mood. i missed my friends. i wonder if they felt uncared for while i was busy ( which isn't true, but my brain is weird ) WOW AM I OVERSHARING? idk... i feel that its important to showcase that my design process includes being all over the place...

i didn't work every day. i tried to, but i didn't.

while my friends were trucking along on gui, i was frozen in a sense of wondering if i should even continue development or quit while i'm ahead and ghost everyone for being a disappointment.

the deadine was nearing and i still hadn't even written the kiss. the gui wasn't done either which didn't worry me as much as being worried that i would disappoint everyone i told "i'm making a game!" what would i look like then... if i didnt make it? a gameless loser?

i know right. what the heck?

it makes no sense.

i ended up writing the kiss yesterday actually, i was experiencing writer's block cause i was so insecure about my story.

but woo boi. the story got put out the gui got done and my stress... didnt dissipate. either way, i think the last two weeks of the jam was a tough time? i did learn a lot. like what i needed to prioritize, how to better prioritize for my workflow.

i have to go like gui - sprites - writing - editing - backgrounds - writing again... i think? it feels a little weird but i think that'll work for me? i can still fix that though.

ANOTHER THING! i couldnt actually sleep last night. i was nervous how my story would be recieved LMFO isn't that normal i think...

but i released the game!

and there was typos.. which to be fair, i'm not good at cross-editing.. i was trying to go line by line after a friend proofread the first part for me and then i... kept missing stuff- don't be like me, just copy paste all the edits and reformat it. or just write in renpy speak in the first time...

but overall i think i learned a lot from swak.

am i still going to be ambitious?

hell the fuck yes.

but will i know how to better work around my high and low mental peaks? also yes. i think i need to remind myself every so often why i'm doing this... well i love writing, i love art, i love telling stories... i like to share my perspective on things, my characters perspectives, and just ships too in general I LOVE SHIPS! Yoyoyoyoyo, wowzers actually posting for once hell yeah. I have a ridiculous amount of art in the work in process vault, so maybe I will spam post them once i've finished lolol (a lot of them are like themed drawings that i want to post at the same time but ahhhh) anyways here is one drawing that I finished.

Yes they are in standing man emoji pose. I didn't want them to be too dynamic due to their stiff and neutral nature.

Random critter that I made, mayhaps be in a book or something idk lol. these are called the reapers/the watchers/the listeners, basically death omens. They are generally neautral and wont interact much, unless you are an innocent person/creature going through extreme suffering so then they will "put you down" in better terms (there mouth is not used for speaking yk) (they have a third eye on their forehead that deems whether or not someone can be saved or if they are beyond saving).

Their eyes see lost souls and their ears hear the cries of the unheard.

Some worship them as "angels" due to the godlike rays when they open their third eye.

Anyways random lore dump over, mayhaps expect more drawings soon.

The average hate comments, harassment, bullying, & spamming/threats thing. We all know those 4, right? Just be a frikin decent person for crying out loud. (You can dislike me & my art all you want, idc tbh. Just don't go harassing me on multiple levels to the point IT WILL MAKE ME HAVE A MENTAL BREAKDOWN!) (Also, these 4 count for my frends here. Pestering/threatening me to draw you smtn. (I work hard on my drawings + I have a life outside of here, so don't expect me to draw you smtn since I only draw for my frends & myself. If you really want art from me, pay in art, idc how bad the art is, art is art & I have no biases when it comes to it as everyone has their own style.)

LGBTQ-Phobes/Menaces to certain groups of ppl who did nothing wrong but exist. (This is a LGBTQ+ Safe place)

Creeps, Weirdos, & ppl who ship problematic ships. (Like don't be any of those plz... Especially the weirdos who like children or animals WAY TOO MUCH.)
