Hey I have started seeing a lot of your stuff being reuploaded on pinterest. I am not sure if you are ok with that but I just wanted to make sure you were aware if you are not!
I have links I can send over but tumblr won't let me send them over asks :/
You can also just search "canis albus" on pinterest and a bunch of stuff comes up
I don't endorse my art being reuploaded on pinterest without my awareness and consent, but the unfortunate reality is that there's very little I can do to stop people from doing that. I know a lot of artists have a similar sort of antagonistic relationship with the site purely because it's so full of stolen, unsourced and uncredited art. I could spend my days going through pinterest and reporting my pieces for removal, and it wouldn't be enough and I'd never have time to do anything else. It's kind of a pick your fights situation and I know I can't win that one.
It was very thoughtful of you to let me know regardless, thank you!

I wish Deviantart was still popular and wasn’t an A.I hellhole,, I miss the old layout before Eclipse became a thing. I miss posting silly art on there as a kid and being able to organize all that art into folders. We really took that platform for granted I swear

How do you do turtle anatomy? Do you have reference sheets that help?
Tumblr media
This is kind of a hard question to answer! There are multiple ways to answer this, but to start here’s just a speed video of one of my recent sketches and a rough draft of how I usually begin a gesture drawing for a figure. I know I’m a visual learner, myself.
But there are a few tools I highly suggest! Some you guys have probably heard a million times!
Use references! Take a bunch of photos (of yourself or online searches), or check out professional anatomy drawings and trace over them to learn the shape language. What looks like tubes, circles, triangles, ect. The more you do this, the more you’ll start learning to break down each part of the anatomy into simple shapes to build upon.
There are also tons and tons of great anatomy drawing tutorials on YouTube!
Be messy, it helps for more expressive lines because you can always erase the excess.
Believe it or not, I also recommend just watching people draw and just studying people in real life too, build up that visual library in your head. Absorb that as much as possible to see how other people are tackling drawings, you’ll pick up all kinds of techniques.
For turtles in general, I take lots of inspiration from super hero comics/shows, the plastron (chest plate) plays a huge part for me in forming the entire figure, everything else pretty much follows after and I’m not afraid to make a ton of awkward mistakes to get where I want the figure to go.
Practice lots and don’t forget to have fun. Lord knows I’m still learning and still got a long way to go too. :)

Venturing from a huge, loud, and (creatively) active fandom into a much quieter and oddly niche one is an experience.
I have to rediscover things like, where are most people at? On which platform is it the most appreciated? Is there a big divide between the OC-orientated fans/creators and the canon character-orientated fans/creators? What are the taboos? What is the fandom's unwritten etiquette? What tags are and aren't used? Etc, etc, etc.
When you join a large and active fandom, such gets quickly shoved into your face so you learn rather fast, but I'll admit I'm stumbling a bit with this one. Not that I'm in a hurry! I'm mostly doing my own thing anyway and I'm having fun with creating characters, their stories, and making them all kiss like Barbie dolls getting their faces smashed together. Rekindling with oc x canon shipping has been fun, and taking baby steps into shipping canon x canon has also been surprisingly entertaining.
But I'm not gonna lie, it can get lonely at times. Because it's smaller and niche (compared to the other fandom!), activity is lower, and finding artists to follow (and whom I also want to see on my feed) are less so it's quieter than I'm used to. Also doesn't help that I am an introvert and reaching out to others is crippling x'D
I haven't found a spot to nestle and get comfy just yet but hopefully soon. In the meantime, I'll continue to do my own thing and hope other people get a fraction of enjoyment from it.

there's really nothing redeeming about deviantart nowadays is there. yes you can argue it's been that way for years but NOW especially with all the AI and nft/crypto dipshits it's become this anti-artist hellscape that is actively trying to harm artists, like the whole site is designed to make money off of you (not FOR you but off of you) whether you opt into it or not. i find the "sell deviation" and "link your NFT" buttons underneath every artwork to be especially gross
