#I’ve never recorded myself with the Wii so it was wild

Dreamt that I was watching Vinny vine sauce streaming and he found videos I made when I was in middle school playing on the Wii and being cringe. He had to keep telling chat to be nice and how it was a good time capsule of the time period.

been thinking about the legend of zelda nonstop for a few days now and i figure it’s time to do something i’ve wanted to do for a while anyway: play all the zelda games in chronological order
Tumblr media
this chart is outdated, but i’ll be using this order for the games, with link between worlds slotted in after awakening, and breath of the wild at the very end. depending on if i get tired of one style of game (all the top downs are in the decline timeline) i may jump around a bit, but generally i’ll be going in order.
i will be skipping a few of them. the four swords games, both for lack of having them on emulation and because i can’t do them alone. tri-force heroes i’ll also skip because while that can be played solo, all indications are that it’s a pain in the ass to do so. I will also give zelda 2 the best shot i can, but that game is absurdly hard even by nes standards so i reserve the right to throw in the towel if i can’t make it work (will also be using guides for the first two zelda games because i mean, give me a break)
for the spinoffs, i had a hard time emulating the tingle game even though i want to play it, we’ll see. cadence of hyrule i will definitely do i love necrodancer, hyrule warriors almost certainly not, those games look so boring. link’s crossbow training, maybe, feels kinda pointless without the zapper. the cdi games i have already played extensively in a format called “youtube poop”
i’ve already completed about half of these, but it will be good to play them again. the ones i haven’t finished are almost all the 3d games, which i have consistently bounced off every time i’ve tried (i’ve given ocarina more chances than almost any other game i’ve played, only to always walk away). this time, though, i’m gonna force myself to go all the way. just to say i beat em all
skyward sword is first, one of the games i’ve never tried at all. i’m a little apprehensive, because i know that game is controversial, but i’ll muster on anyway. i’m doing the wii version for the record, because i don’t feel like paying 60 bucks for the switch version. i’ll deal with the motion controls as they come

BOOM BADA BOM BOM BOOM
WELCOME TO MY BLOG
DAILY BLOG #10: AUGUST 17, 2021
I'm currently being timed by my wonderful partner as I write this. Goddamn, they make me so happy 🤣.
So today was a "start work at 11:30" day, and surprisingly I wasn't yelled at for making breakfast at 10:30. Maybe she's finally changing?
Even if she does, I feel like it's too late at this point. I already can't stand to be around her for any amount of time, and I'm gonna be moving out to college in about a year.
Anyway, I wore one of my $1 blouses and my Jennifer Lopez khakis (gimme more Jennifer Lopez 😭), and I was VERY SURPRISINGLY complimented on it at least 2 or 3 times. The one lady actually referred to it properly as a blouse, which made me happy UwU.
Today was actually pretty good, above average, better than usual, not half bad at all, etc etc.
I got there and started hanging clothes and ringing people up. There seemed to be a lot more people than usual because I only got 2 shopping carts worth of clothes hung up.
Apparently I was in very good spirits for no apparent reason, because I was cracking jokes and ended up with a banana sticker on my head, which bothers my boss a bit, but she doesn't really care because it makes the customers laugh.
That's one thing about business; if you can sincerely make someone laugh and feel good while they're shopping at your place, then they'll have fond memories shopping there and want to come back, especially when compared to the usual retail drone.
I specifically love going to Taco Bell to eat for this very reason. There's one guy who works there that always has some wild shirt on and is very energetic. He makes me happy, and I'm glad that he likes his job. I saw him through the drive-thru window a few days ago and I'm like "OMG HE'S STILL HERE! FUCK YEAH!"
Deadass my favorite person I've ever met behind a counter.
I think my best joke today was when someone bought $11.98 worth of clothes. She was with her husband as she gave me $12, making the change 2¢. I hand her the change, saying "Here's your own two cents," and her husband is standing there basically panting and trying not to laugh.
I made another lady laugh when I said, with banana sticker on forehead, "I try to make people laugh, but I think my face does that enough."
The tables turned when another guy tried to make jokes back at me, but they didn't really land well. I just acting laughed lol.
Apart from working today, I also thoroughly enjoyed picking up a Wii RVL-001 and PS2 Slim SCPH-90001, both with full hookups and a controller, the Wii having 2 Wiimotes and a nunchuck, for $40. I found some clothes for 49¢ a piece that I'll be trying on tomorrow.
I'm so good at spending money xD.
I DO SAVE IT TOO THOUGH. Half of my paycheck goes right into savings, and I also match or exceed what I spend and put that into savings as well.
I came home and ate a frozen dinner. WEEEEEEE lmao. Tbh it's not bad though.
I watched some memes and talked to my handsome and incredible partner, who I'm currently blowing off right now, to write this.
I'M SORRY HUN, I LOVE YOU QWQ. I PROMISE WE'LL TALK MORE AFTER THIS.
They know I'm here tho xD. As I said, they're timing me to see how long I write for.
I'm also listening to Green Day right now. Gotta love em.
I think I might possibly have ADHD or ADD. I find it really hard to focus on one thing or have a clear mind. The way I write can be kinda sporadic, and I think that's why. I usually just write what I'm thinking when I write like this. It's all over the place.
I'm working on a song tho. Here are some of the lyrics, which are probably gonna change as I keep going lol.
Feels like I'm losing grip
On what has kept me steady for so long
Falling down as I trip
Feel so afraid that I will lose it all
When the fight to be accepted
Is the fight to keep direction in a world that feels so cruel
And the thing that kept you floating
Is a burden on your shoulders that's using you like a tool
It becomes so hard to love yourself
In a family not made for you
And then every day I ask myself
What the hell am I supposed to do
It becomes so hard to feel at home
In a house that likes to ridicule me
So I surround myself with all this shit
That really doesn't have a meaning
So help me find my way out
Of this hole I've dug myself in
I just can't seem to get enough
Of this technological prison
While the pile keeps growing,
My pain is showing
My insecurities
Keep me from knowing
That the shit I've gotten myself into
Is fucking poison
I literally changed one word as I was writing this lmao. It was "I just can't seem to get enough | of this technological poison," but I changed it to prison to keep the chorus from being too repetitive. I might change it back, idk.
I've done a very rough vocal recording, but that's it lol.
Anyway, I suppose that's all I have to talk-
Nah
I just thought about something else xD
People at work keep referring to me as She/her and then correcting themselves, and I'm like "NO PLEASE, YOU'RE FINE, JUST TRUST ME." They never learn QwQ. This little girl whispered to her mom the other day, "Is that a girl?" Her mom said, "No, it's a guy. He just has long hair."
I can't really say anything because idk how it would go with the company. I wasn't allowed to wear a dress previously because they hadn't updated dress code since like 2004 or something. They actually brought it up with the head of the company and it's something they're working on.
If they go the other way and are like "You have to wear your assigned birth clothes," then I'm quitting.
So far I've been able to get away with blouses, women's jeans, shoes, and wearing a bra that very much gives me bigger boobs lol.
Anyway, I guess I'm done NOW.
That should be it.
Maybe.
We'll see.
I guess I'll sign off now though 🤷🏼
Thanks for reading my lovelies.
Be good people.
-Leonna

Super Mario Odyssey
It’s hard to truly state or quantify the joy that Odyssey has brought. For me, it’s climbed from ‘the best Switch game’ to ‘the best Mario game’ to ‘one of the best games of the generation’ to ‘one of the best games of all time’ since its release, and each ascending moniker has felt effortless.
Some games demand a real battle before earning your affections. The presentation may be off; some aspect of control might rub you up the wrong way; it may not live up to its peers in areas where they excel. Super Mario Odyssey on the other hand comfortably iterates upon every previous 3D Mario title, borrowing liberally from its own lineage whilst innovating constantly by merging recognizable Mario gameplay with the best aspects of Nintendo’s other first party outings. Its quality is there from its title screen, to its end credits. Odyssey is friendly and inviting. It’s an accessible yet challenging, consistently rewarding title. Even the Grinch would struggle not to warm to it.
There is Warioland in Odyssey’s plentiful transformations but also Warioware in the rapid fire volley of ideas presented, refined, then discarded. There’s Pullblox in the chunky aesthetic and environmental manipulation of its subspace challenges. There’s Animal Crossing in the personality present in the denizens of each kingdom, Mario Kart in its ‘racing lines’ and, of course, Breath of the Wild in its scale and desire to reward every step of exploration. It has become an almost hackneyed closer to reviews of Mario titles that ‘Mario is gaming’ but Odyssey so seamlessly references and then subverts not only its own series but also wider genre and medium tropes that it’s a statement utterly deserved.
Of the hundreds of collectable Moons - items earned liberally through platforming, orienteering, puzzle solving, and a general inquisitiveness - I can find issue with just 3 or 4 for being slightly too oblique in their hints: the times my level of enjoyment waivered in the 60 hours it took to fully milk the game of all its content comparable to the time it would have taken to parse this paragraph.
The Switch is the perfect home for a game so eager to please whether you have 5 minutes or 5 hours to play. As I’ve stated before, it is impossible to understate the value of the instantaneous resume feature of Nintendo’s hybrid console. I’ve collected 30 Moons before bed, 5 more over breakfast, 1 more on the train to work. Odyssey is a mammoth title that somehow demands only the smallest commitment to begin to enjoy.
The sound design, musical selection and visual presentation are all impeccable, but it’s the feel of the game which takes it above and beyond its competitors. Nothing on the market feels this good to play. Controls are crisp, taut, and utterly intuitive, all whilst spread over just three buttons and an analogue stick. Nintendo’s decision to allow gameplay recording just before Odyssey’s release was a masterstroke – minutes into play I found myself hammering the chunky capture key, desperate to immortalise a particularly joyous run of rubbery traversal.
The Switch has had a fantastic first year at market and it’s heartening to once again see Nintendo’s craft rewarded so handsomely after the tragic misfires of the Wii U given its stellar library. Super Mario Odyssey may well top Game of the Year lists, no doubt vying with Breath of the Wild given its similarly bold reinvention of its franchise. However, no written or numerical accolade will be able to detail or truly represent the magic felt by players picking up the console and Odyssey for the first time over the holiday period. For all their positive qualities, a Call of Duty or FIFA title will never elicit the smiles a title like Odyssey will from an excited kid on Christmas morning.
But then to suggest its only children who will glow from exposure to the primary colours of a Mario title is a nonsense.
Pure joy. Unfettered joy. Unrivalled joy.
I am 30 years old, and I love Super Mario Odyssey.
It’s an all-timer.

Dear Friend,
April 17, 2017
Part I Happy Easter!  I know it was yesterday, but I didn’t get to tell you properly. So - er - Happy Belated Easter!(?) I hope you had a great holiday.  Surprisingly, I’m grateful to say that I did.  Although, holidays at home have started to become less and less significant.  Nevertheless, I had a great time.  It’s been a week since I last wrote you. We got a new puppy and with my luck, she chewed up my laptop charger; thus leaving me with nothing to write to you.  Her name is Molly.  She’s a mixed terrier with another breed that I cannot figure out.  My dad rescued her at the warehouse he works at.  Apparently she almost got run over, so he stopped in the middle of the road outside his workplace and took her to his office.  She’s been with us ever since.  We don’t think we can take care of her, but thankfully my brother has offered to take her home in a month when he gets a new house.  You have probably noticed by now that my life can be a mess sometimes. So, a week without writing… Well, let’s just say, life goes on and I have much to tell you.  I will tell you about my day today, and then work my way in reverse.  I woke up with a cold.  It was 11:13am - twenty-three minutes passed the beginning of my first class.  I obviously didn’t go. Instead, I stayed home in bed, playing games on my phone, and listening to music.  I didn’t do much afterward.  I went to work to fill out some paperwork, then to an electronic store to buy myself a new computer charger, then I left back home, made food, ate, and killed time until my parents got home.  They got home by mid afternoon.  I was getting ready to go to the park to run.  I got dressed, took my energy drink, and drove to the park.  When I got there, I noticed there was a lot of people because there was a baseball game going on.  That really annoys me.  I don’t like running when there’s a lot of people present, but I know I will do it anyway.  I ran a 5K in thirty minutes.  It wasn’t my best run.  Since I’m sick, it was really difficult for me to breathe.  In addition, my leg - more specifically, my shins - have been hurting a lot lately.  I didn’t care about the pain - I never do.  So, I ran the 5k anyway.  I got home, and I was welcomed with a meal at the bar.  My mom heard me coming in from the garage, so she heated up some food she made for me.  It was salmon with wild rice and green beans.  I dressed the salmon with lime juice and tabasco sauce.  It was very satisfying.  I wish she made it more often.  After that, I took a shower and got dressed into my pajamas.  Now, I’m outside sitting down on one of our new tables in the patio.  It’s storming.  There’s a lot of lightning and not enough thunder.  It took a while for the rain to start pouring, but when it did, it fell fast and hard.  I thought about stepping out of the patio to get rained on - I feel like it would wash away all my sadness, but I don’t want my sickness to get worse.  Honestly, it is really calming to be outside right now.  I’m listening to the thunder roar and the water hit the ground.  I can smell petrichor in the air, especially when the wind blew it my way. This, combined with the occasional lightning bursts, makes it a perfect night.  I haven’t witnessed a storm like this in a few months.  The wind is actually breezy for once, and it doesn’t feel humid and sticky like every other hot and muggy day in Texas. What a great way to end the night.  Part II My family and I actually celebrated Easter on Saturday (don’t ask why). My brother from San Antonio, Texas surprised us when he showed up at our front door.  It was really nice seeing him and his wife again. My sister showed up with her husband, their son, and his mother as well. We all ate some BBQ that my dad cooked on the grill.  It was really delicious in my opinion.  I had steak and chips with some pico de gallo.  I know it sounds pretty lame, but I enjoy the simple stuff.  After we all had our dinner, my nephew, Aleczander and I went to my room to play some video games.  He’s only three and a half years old, but he definitely got the gamer blood in him from me.  We started playing Super Smash Bros. on the Wii U.  I taught him the controls of the game. Once he got the hang of it, he was having a blast.  He was screaming and yelling and laughing.  It wasn’t annoying.  It was actually quite soothing - nothing beats a laughter like a laughter from a happy child.  We played a few rounds while my sister watched.  She was stoked because she was finally witnessing her son and brother bonding for the first time.  Then, when her husband walked in, he started recording us playing together.  It started getting late, so my brother and sister-in-law decided to leave because they had plans with my sister-in-law’s parents.  They were going to a bar in a neighboring city.  After they left, my sister and her family decided to leave as well.  Before I let them go, I gave my nephew my copy of the game, but the 3DS version of it so he could play it wherever and whenever he wants.  I know he’s young, but hopefully he will get better at it and be ready to play against me next time.  He had a big smile on his face as he walked out the door.  My sister said, “Thank you,” and gave me a hug, followed by her husband and his mom.  I started feeling sick, so when everyone left I isolated myself in my room.  Although I had family around, I had a lot on my mind.  They were just a distraction.  I was really missing someone, so I tried not to get sad about it.  I was in the dark for a few moments, then my mind started racing with thoughts that didn’t seem to matter - I started thinking about things that were out of my own control. I started thinking about other people’s lives.  Why do I worry about everyone but myself? I didn’t want to get bad again.  So, I turned on my Playstation 4 and started playing Destiny.  The rest of the night consisted of me playing video games, texting my best friend Josh and listening to music.  Right before bed, I watched a few episodes of Rick and Morty until my eyes started to get heavy.  I wanted to stay up, but I couldn’t fight it anymore.  I let myself drift off into a deep slumber that was interrupted multiple times by a crying puppy, a full bladder, and a nightmare of my father dying. Part III I had a lot of events happen during the week prior to Easter.  I got my blood results back from the school’s medical center.  I tested negative for gonorrhea and chlamydia. I didn’t get checked for HIV because the school only does those on Thursdays.  I’ll have to go back soon to get checked for that as well. I doubt I have it, but it’s always better to be safe than sorry. I also got my general blood work done as well.  The nurse told me I was very healthy.  I was shocked at this news because last year my bad cholesterol was high. It turned out that my bad cholesterol went down by ten points - last year I was at a cholesterol level of 105, now it is at 95 (anything higher than 100 is not that good). It must be all the running I’m doing.  Speaking of health, I’m pretty proud of the fact that I have been eating better.  I’m staying away from really greasy foods and fast food in general.  I do have my “cheat days,” of course - they keep me sane, but in general I’m happy with my health.  I’m eating more oatmeal and I’m intaking a lot more protein. I make myself a protein shake three to four times a week. I’ve actually gained seven pounds of muscle.  That’s a lot for me in my opinion.  I still don’t have the body that I want, so I’m going to just keep doing what I’m doing.  I just hope I don’t have to actually go on a diet.  I love food too much - especially chocolate.  I’ve been hanging out with my friend Josh less often lately because he got a job as a server at a burger place.  I’ve been trying to hang out with other guys - gay guys - but they all end up bailing on me.  So, I’ve just been spending time with my old friends when I can.  I’ll occasionally go to Applebee’s with my friend Jenna or spend some time with the “Accounting Crew” from school.  The “Accounting Crew” is a group of six of my friends (not including me) from class.  We all hang out when we can and we see each other every Tuesday and Thursday.  I also hung out with one of my old friends named Alejandro.  He’s an ex-boyfriend of an ex-girl friend of mine (it’s a long story), but he and I still talk every once in a while. He invited me to tournament last week.  It was for many different games like Street Fighter V, Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 (UMVC3), FIFA and a few others, but the highlight of the tournament was Super Smash Bros. Melee. They were playing it on an emulated Wii system.  The games that were going on were getting really intense.  Some of the players started throwing chairs when they ended up losing.  Anyway, I went for UMVC3.  I had never been to a tournament before, so I was just there to have fun.  My main goal was to NOT lose the first round.  And guess what… I didn’t!  It was quite funny because my favorite character that I use is named Morrigan - she’s from and old game called Darkstalkers - and the guy that I had to play against first also used her.  He was a pretty advanced player using her, but honestly, I was better. She’s a very tedious character to use, so I respect anyone that knows how to play her right.  I didn’t lose the first match against him, but sadly I lost the two matches that followed with some other players.  (At least I didn’t get last place!) I met a lot of new people there that traveled from all over Texas like Houston, Corpus Christi, Laredo and Austin just to show up at that tournament. I look forward to going to another tournament. It was definitely a fun and good experience.  Some other events happened that I’d probably rather summarize rather than tell you in detail, because they are kind of personal.  One - Josh had sex with some girl, whom I just met the same night, in my house while my parents were gone. We didn’t go to sleep until 7:30am. The girl was supposed to spend the night. Josh came into my room letting me know that. I got upset and he noticed. He didn’t want me to be mad, so he pretended to leave home so she could go home too. He came back to my house and slept with me. I thought it was really sweet that he did that. He kept saying, “I don’t want you to be upset, Alex. I love you.” Two - The same night this happened, my straight friend from a few cities away whom would like to be referred to as “Fisto-Roboto,” (I asked him what he would like his nickname to be, and he chose that. I laughed of the thought of writing his name to you) started to talk really dirty to me. He has a girlfriend and basically told me he’s curious to do things with me. I wish I could show you what he said to me, but we were talking on Snapchat and I was also a little intoxicated on this night. The only thing that I can remember is him saying, “I want to suck you dry,” and “I’ve thought about fucking you.” He said a lot more, but I’ll just leave it at that.  Three - I gave a previous English professor of mine a copy of an excerpt I want to publish. I gave it to her to proofread and help me with my structure, vocabulary, and grammar. She also gave her colleague a copy as well. He’s a creative writing professor at the university. He read my excerpt and gave me amazing feedback. He showed me things that will definitely make it a lot better. He told me I’m a great writer and he could feel the anger, the anxiety, and the sadness in my writing. He also said I don’t need to take any writing classes; that the things he was going to show me aren’t even taught in a classroom. He was so helpful. He gave me so many ideas for my piece, I can’t wait to edit it. I should be working on it, but as soon as my previous English professor gives me her feedback. Unfortunately, I have been too busy to go to her office, and when I was done talking to her colleague, she was gone.  Four - I set up an appointment to talk to a therapist at school. I wish I could tell you what happened there, but everything we talk about is confidential. I will say, though, that it wasn’t much because it was my first visit. She was just asking me questions about my health: Do I smoke? Do I drink, Do I have suicidal thoughts? You know, the usual therapist questions. I can’t tell if it was helpful or kind of made me worse. I’ll have to let you know what the answer is when I go for my follow-up, whenever that is…
Part IV Incidentally, I have a quite a week ahead of me.  Tomorrow, I have an exam for Auditing that I should start studying for.  Then, on Wednesday, I have a project/report due for my Management class.  I really don’t feel like studying tonight, but I have to if I want to get a good grade.  If all goes well in school I could be graduating this December.  I’m looking forward to writing my report for Management, because, I mean, it involves writing! Hopefully I can keep my mind busy enough tonight to not think about people who don’t miss me. I just need to stay distracted: study, listen to music, and worry about things that are in my control - my life - nobody else’s.  Love Always,  Alex

The Last of Us x2 Divinity: Original Sin II x2 Play count: 16 off that list, that's also eight twentyfifths, which is roughly how much of my massive dick your mom can take. Cunzy: Now, we all know the issues with a crowd sourced list. It's dumb. It's like putting together a list of best fruit, or favourite socks. However, every now and then it's useful to pull the wang out to measure it against the communities' wang and see just how weird and misshapen our is (we share genital appendages) by comparison. Play count: 9! What an alternative darling I am! Richie: I mean they are great, and you know they will be, but you have to draw the line somewhere, So you have to choose and say, "Nah I wont play this", better the time sink you know, right? And you choose your reasons, you skim an article, and find the thing that is slightly wrong and then activate your inner drama queen to say "OMG that is not a game I want to play I cant believe they dont have Fred Durst doing the voice of the main character" or something equally nuts. And there is plenty of them on that list that I simply refuse to play for these reasons. And I guess that's fine? Time is finite, I cant go back ten years and play all of the PS3 games I never played? Can I? Cunzy: GUILTY CONFESSIONS, A.K.A those games you know are great but just never got around to: Mario Odyssey, LoZ (the whole franchise), Red Dead (series), Mass Effect (series), Persona (series), Divinity (series), Souls (series)... where do I hand my gamer card back? Richie: Also Overwatch... Do people actually play it, or is that there just because people fiddle with their genitalia to fund cosplay camgirls? Cunzy: Yes, watch me throat this widowmaker dildo on my stream now. Richie: So do we disagree with this list? Well, to be fucking honest I'm not going to research it myself, I'm not sure I have played much more than 50 games this year, as far as i can recall, I played a lot of Diablo 3 and Fallout/Skyrim... but yeah I'm sure the above is good... Actually fuck that, Games of the decade for me are... Every iteration of pokemon that came out in the last 10 years, X/Y, Sun/Moon, Black/White, Sword/Shield, Flaps/Scrotum. Skyrim SNOW VIKING DRAGON SHOUTING Animal Crossing, Shake the tree for Nook. Lego Everything, play, collect, repeat Hyperdimensions Neptunia. Ultra Japanese anthropomorphised consoles as Anime girls. Vert is best Waifu.  Fallouts So many plus expansions, Chandler as a bad guy is special.  Diablo 3, Clicky loot loot  WoW Classic, because...  FFXIII-2, Timetravel-bocolina  Tomodatchi Life, Make your friends on the DS into miis, interact with them, cry alone at night Smash Bros. Repeatedly main Peach till she becomes top tier, yaay Jackbox games, All Gems, probably the best multiplayer gaming actually this decade.  Doki Doki Literature Club, MO-NI-KA Batmanzes, grapple glide Southparkgames, play the stories you have watched and add a weak RPG element. Dragon Ages-s, Way better than mass effect Every Naruto game. Like lego, but with anime ninjas Barrel Scrape: the game, where you frantically look at your steam collection for the games you have most played, and check the dates of your 360 games to see if they fall into this category I played 18 games it seems? Cunzy: *gasps for air*, wipes synthetic jizz from Lollipop Chainsaw skirt. Ten years is a long time. Here's my top 18 games of the decade. Silent Hill Shattered Memories 2010 Silent Hill without the combat and all the more psychologically chilling because of it. Great setting, theme and story. One I regularly come back to and still brick myself.  Endless Ocean 2 2010 Expanding on the first one in every way, shame there aren't more nature lovin' games in this ilk.  Monster Hunter Tri 2010 The only one in the series to have kept my attention despite it being the 'wrong one' according to many in the MH community.  Lost Planet 2 2010 Probably one of the games with the most comprehensive couch co-op mode and ridiculous bosses to team up against. Absolutely bonkers story, giant monsters and jetpacks. What more do you need? Dead Rising 2 2010 I wasn't too bothered with DR3 and DR4 despite absolutely loving the first game. They seem to have crossed the line between goofy but po-faced and just silly apocalypse zombie killing. DR2 arguably gives you a playground more memorable than Willamette and stays on the 'serious' side.  Dead Space 2 2011 One of my favourite gaming franchises I think, excellently built world that is complemented by the tie in anime, comics and spin-off games.   Resident Evil Revelations 2012 It was a good decade for Resident Evil with almost every game seeing multiple ports, re-releases and remasters. It's a close call between Resident Evil 2 and Revelations on the Nintendo 3DS for my favourite of the decade but this one really got it's biohazardous talons-with-eyes into us especially raid mode. Revelations 2 is fantastic co-op but the raid mode side of things isn't as fluid as the original Revelations. Criminally, aside from a brief VR foray into Resident Evil 7, we errr didn't play it.  The Last Story 2012 Oh, I fell in love with this game and despite the small geography of Lazulis City it felt like a living city with many surprises tucked away. Great soundtrack to boot.  Fire Emblem Awakening 2013 Another series that had a rock solid decade starting with Awakening then the rest of the 3DS trilogy, an excellent Warriors game and even Heroes wasn't too bad. Although Fire Emblem Three Houses is the superior game, it's the cast and the support system pioneered by Awakening that has this in my top 18.  Tomb Raider 2013 Sometimes the context in which you play a game is as important as the game itself. A weekend in 2013 with fellow Tomb Raider fans blasting through this excellent and long awaited reboot is fondly remembered. Last of Us 2013 It's hard to put a finger on just one thing that makes this game phenomenal but there's not been much like it since.  LEGO Marvel Super Heroes 2013 There were some great LEGO games this decade from opposites LEGO Worlds and LEGO Dimensions to movie tie-ins and a strong series of games based on the Marvel and DC comics. The Marvel trilogy in particular was outstanding.  Everyone's Gone to the Rapture 2015 With age, the more energetic games can leave me wheezing with exhaustion just thinking about playing them and EGttR is a perfect respite from the shootbang games. Honestly, I'd be keen to play more games just like this. The English countryside setting in particular made it extra special.  Mario Kart 8 Deluxe 2017 Honestly, who actually puts Mario Kart on their top games list? Well thinking about it and looking at play records it's probably the perfect couch multiplayer game but with a real challenging depth to those looking to break records and get a hold of those elusive gold kart components.  Splatoon 2 2017 Cheating slightly here by including Splatoon 2 and the Octo Expansion as one entry. I'm really not a huge fan of the central competitive gameplay of Splatoon, although I've put in the hours, but the single player side of things are a worthy first person puzzler(?) in their own right.  Into the Breach 2018 When the options paralysis sets in, which is often, I just spin up Into the Breach. Three hours and a few runs later I'll question why I don't play this game even more often. Hundreds of hours in and still challenges to do, runs to try.  Super Smash Brothers Ultimate 2018 Part game, part nerdy love letter to gaming, part video game museum.  Pokemon Sword and Shield 2019 Okay as Richie pointed above any of the pokemon mainline series could have filled this slot but the last one makes most sense. Twas also a good decade for the spinoffs. I enjoyed Pokemon Conquest a huge deal, put an embarrassing amount of time into Quest as well as Picross, Rumble, Duel, Go and mystery dungeons.  And there we have it, lists, we'll be back at some point in the future with more lists, perhaps with a list spanning the last 2 decades, to present you with our Game of the Century (spoilers, it's SSX Tricky). Also if anyone has a word to describe my above rant about the act of proactively dismissing something despite knowing it will be good to avoid committing to the time sink, please let me know. We live in a time of labels, there must be a word for this! Love and where do you even start with persona! Richie + Cunzy X

Louis Hamilton chuckled as well as offered his webcam a huge, cheesy thumbs-up, feeling high off the thrill of success. His success wasn’t one-of-a-kind; like many banners before him, he had actually just beaten the tough Lothric and Lorian bosses in Dark Souls III. Yet strangely enough, he had not been holding a PlayStation or Xbox controller. Rather, Hamilton’s thumbs-up was swaddled in a boxing handwear cover with a Wii remote strapped to the side.
Hamilton, part of the Super Scrub Brothers Shiver network, concentrates on gaming with entirely unconventional input techniques. Like a growing variety of streamers, he enjoys playing games “wrong.”
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Hamilton’s boxing handwear cover, rigged up to control Doomfist in Overwatch Origins The initial mainstream success in this sort of challenge came from Canadian banner Bearzly. In August 2014, he started playing Dark Souls with a Guitar Hero controller. A number of tool peripherals later on, he was granted a
Guinness World Record: most alternate control approaches used to finish Dark Souls.
The weird-controller subculture has actually just expanded because after that. Hamilton didn’t know regarding Bearzly when he began.” Me as well as my friends were just playing video games, just every night after school, “he says.”And among the days, my pal brought his dancing pad … and also we’re like, suppose we play Street Fighter with this? And in some way it worked.”
That exploration led him down a course of increasingly ludicrous peripherals. With a mess of converters and also personalized scripts, he’s been able to hook up practically any kind of controller to any kind of system. He’s played Dark Souls with Kinect, Bloodborne with DK Bongos, and The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time with a DJ Hero turntable.
“I went to school for computer technology, so I had simply the programming expertise in basic,” Hamilton claims. “I just never thought I would certainly do it for stuff such as this.”
Like Hamilton, streamer Dylan Beck (that passes Rudeism online), refuses to play games as intended. His work commonly begs the concern: What object cannot be a controller? In a recent Far Cry 5 playthrough, he affixed switches as well as analog sticks directly to a deer head included in the scandal sheet of the video game. Last year, he played Overwatch with a gyroscope-d baguette in a homage to the French personality Widowmaker. Also like Hamilton, he appeared to simply stumble into the trend.
“I had a credibility in secondary school for being ‘that guy’ at Guitar Hero,” Beck says, “and a good friend of mine joked that I should play as well as try Rocket League with a Guitar Hero controller. We attempted it out and also it finished up functioning truly well. [It] obtained some attention on Reddit as well.”
Neither Hamilton neither Beck refute that a huge part of the charm of this work is the attention they’ve gotten. In the competitive globe of streaming, every person needs a hook; playing Rocket League with flight sticks is like any kind of.
“I suggest, at the beginning it was 100 percent interest,” Beck says. “I’m not going to exist about that. … [] in addition to that now, I’m really uncovering what does it cost? I truly enjoy building this things.”
Delicious Methods
The procedure of getting these controllers working is constantly charmingly slipshod. For electronic devices, the signal commonly has to be routed through a number of different programs to basically fool the console right into believing it’s obtaining inputs from the right gadget. However that’s primary contrasted to some of the configurations Beck and also Hamilton run with.
A programming toy called “Makey Makey” allows any person run an electrical current through daily products then specify changes in the current in terms of programmable keystrokes. In even more based terms, this resembles connecting an alligator clip to a conductive product (like a banana), and after that transforming customer inputs (jabbing the bananas) into switch presses. The degree of intricacy is only restricted by your quantity of fruit.
“It’s normally 12 bananas” giggles Hamilton. “It’s actually amusing to go to the sales register at a store with similar to, 12 bananas.”
Naturally, not all food makes for equally great controllers.
“I remember aiming to play Portal with a cake.” Beck claims. “I did it for my birthday. I rigged up a whole lot of little cherries on top of the cake as buttons. … Imagine every one of the buttons for a video game just arranged in a circle, simply a circle before you. And also they’re all extremely– yuck. It was gross. Like I was providing myself hand aches, the cake was breaking down.”
In spite of the prospective mess, Hamilton and Beck insist that obtaining begun on the planet of unconventional controllers is relatively easy. And instead of discouraging others from taking their spotlight, both players seem to thrill in obtaining individuals to try out their setups. Hamilton is servicing tutorials to show others just how to utilize his jerry-rigged controllers, and Beck remains in the procedure of making all his code publicly easily accessible.
The larger video gaming community is accustomed to self-imposed difficulties– slappers just!– and the absurdity of playing “incorrect” is accentuated in a crowd. During PAX Australia, Beck ran an occasion where he supplied a half-dozen various input methods for Overwatch gamers to fight.
“I urge other individuals to a minimum of try it out,” says Hamilton. “And it’s not as difficult as you think.”
Hamilton and also Beck, despite having fun with normal controllers their entire life, admit to often executing much better with their cobbled-together peripherals.
“The guiding wheel– I in fact favor it for FPS games,” Hamilton says. “It just really feels all-natural to transform a steering wheel entrusted to turn your video camera to the left, while pushing down the throttle to move on or lowering the brake to move backwards.”
Beck even states he passes away much less with a fry pan compared to a conventional controller for Dark Souls.
“It’s actually strange,” he states. “By all ways, it’s not better compared to the conventional controller, however I’ve gotten used to using it so a lot. It simply feels even more comfy.”
Tumblr media
“You do not understand just how simple it is just to press a switch,”Hamilton claims, referencing the difficulty of playing with bananas Endless Potential In the future, both banners desire to produce input approaches that might include verisimilitude to the gameplaying experience. Beck discussed wishing to assemble a cosplay-quality team to match Mercy’s from Overwatch, complete with a rotating top and different triggers to enhance or recover. Hamilton is presently building a life-sized Keyblade from Kingdom Hearts, which will notice motion and suit real-life movements to in-game assaults.” I feel like that’s the desire of what I wish to do, as we relocate more detailed to
AR and VR,”Hamilton states. “It would certainly be truly enjoyable seeing if we can make peripherals just like [the items] in the game, and also virtually have a 1:1 experience with the video game itself. “The controllers aren’t just for goofs, either. For gamers who do not have a full series of movement, drastically various methods of playing a video game could be the bridge right into previously hard to reach genres. Hamilton even has a Breath of the Wild arrangement running totally on voice commands, making it possible to play without any kind of physical inputs.” At the moment, I’ve been feeling this really huge desire to construct stuff that’s … not just a bit foolish, but
something that somebody else may desire to use, “Beck states.”I’ve seen just what individuals at AbleGamers do. … I would certainly enjoy to build something like that. I believe that would certainly be wonderful. “

What I'm Playing Now: Far Cry 4, Zelda Wind Waker and Sports Champions
This week, I dove into Far Cry 4, exercised my mind with Brain Age (I know, I’m about ten years behind on this one), started The Wind Waker HD, and played my first PlayStation Move game in Sports Champions. Let’s take a look at what I’m playing now! Far Cry 4 My backlog is rather extensive, and with an abundance of new titles releasing in the coming months, it goes without saying that I need to be efficient in choosing which games to play, to manage my time and have the most possible fun (for as much as I’d like to, restarting Fallout 4 with a focus on melee wouldn’t make much sense at the moment; there are just too many other games to play). However, Far Cry 4 wasn’t among these games—those which I hoped to clear from my backlog ASAP. I purchased the Kyrat Edition some time ago for $30, and until the realization that I’ll detail next hit me, I didn’t really plan to play it anytime soon. As I was choosing my next game, though, I noticed something odd:  a sizable stockpile of new Assassin’s Creed titles waiting to be played. AC 3, 4, and Unity were all purchased for next to nothing, and it hasn’t slipped my attention that Syndicate is rapidly dropping in cost. Also, another new title is coming out sometime next year! Ubisoft’s affinity for releasing yearly installments and my affinity for good gaming deals has created quite the conundrum—one that may never quite be repaired (the odds of me playing all four of these AC games before the next title’s release are close to zero). With Far Cry: Primal plummeting in price as well, and history indicating that Ubisoft won’t delay in crafting another entry, I realized I didn’t want to find myself in the same situation with another series—or at the very least, I didn’t want to find myself in a situation that was this bad with another series. So, somewhat begrudgingly, I began Far Cry 4 on the PlayStation 4. My first impression was that the game looks technically impressive, in terms of its graphics, and that Ubisoft has dedicated quite a bit of newfound energy to developing the story and character of this entry. Both impressions were true. From the enemies to the animals and even the aerial views, Far Cry 4’s graphics are beautiful. In terms of adding personality to the game, the characters speak for themselves (two hippy stoners trapped in Kyrat and occupying your parent’s home, the main dictator antagonist, a gun-toting warlord-turned-priest with a knack for righteous justice, a surprisingly funny and interesting radio host, etc.). The player choices found in the game also add to this personality, as completely different main-story paths can also be chosen from. Furthermore, even relatively minuscule details—like some one-line item descriptions—earned a chuckle from me. The lush landscapes and never-ending supply of exotic animals—especially elephants, which can be rode and used to trample enemies—are also of a very high quality. Moreover, the numerous vehicles, main quests, side quests, capture missions, and the sheer amount of things to do in the game are impressive—for new players, that is. For those of us who have played previous entries, the laundry list of tasks to complete in Far Cry 4 will be an annoyance more than anything else. Climbing up and liberating radio towers to change their propaganda frequency to a pro-democracy message is all well and good, but I did so in Far Cry 3 (and something similar in 2, if I remember correctly). The same can be said of the races and outpost missions! Even the involved healing procedures, where the character removes a bullet from his body, puts out a limb that has caught fire, snaps a finger back into place, or performs another healing action based upon the specific damage incurred is getting old! It was appealing when I saw it for the first time in Far Cry 2, cool in Far Cry 3, but now, it’s just a bit worn out. Therein lies the problem with Ubisoft’s quick-fire release schedule: they continually come-up with an exciting concept, revolutionize it (Far Cry 1 to Far Cry 2 saw massive improvements, as did Assassins Creed 1 to Assassins Creed 2) and then replicate this revolutionized product with minor variations through each new release. For as intriguing as the healing system is, it first made its debut in 2008—nearly a decade ago! This point is further illustrated in Far Cry Primal. It took me about an hour to find that the animals were the coolest part of Far Cry 4—throwing bait (it helps that your character is equipped with the launching power of an MLB pitcher) and watching as a ravenous predator attacks your enemies is awesome, as is riding elephants and trampling all who stand in your path. This unique, albeit relatively minor in terms of size, bit of creativity appealed to other players as well, and Ubisoft in-turn developed an entire game around the theme in Primal. The point is that, if Ubisoft delayed releases and focused on further innovating titles, their games wouldn’t be stockpiling in my collection. While it’s true that I don’t represent the whole of their sales community, it’s important to note that I’ve been playing Ubisoft’s games for years now; new players will be in the same boat as I am in no time at all. The long-term implications of this development style aren’t purely financial. Sure, Rock Band and Guitar Hero were beat to death, but by then, Activision had made boatloads of money. Call of Duty sales are continually slumping, but once again, the profits are already there. The real long-term implications of this quick-pace development style are simple: their games will be played because they are technically sound, but they won’t make history. When Rockstar releases a GTA title (or any other game), Naughty Dog creates games like The Last of Us and Uncharted 4, or Nintendo launches a new Legend of Zelda or Smash Bros entry, for instance, they are able to make history, capture the attention of the entire gaming industry, and still turn a massive profit. Brain Age While I’ve played a lot of DS games, I haven’t quite experienced everything the system has to offer—mainly because I focus primarily on consoles. Brain Age is one of the DS’s most notable titles, and because it’s been sitting in my collection for well over a year since I bought it for fifty cents at a yard sale, I figured I’d give it a go (sound reasoning, right?). I’ll keep this brief, as I’m sure you don’t want to hear too much about it, but this is an awesome game! Admittedly, I thought it was purely a collection of mind-bending mini games before playing. While these mini-games are present (and very well made), I’m finding a lot of use in the title’s one hundred Sudoku puzzles. Performing one per day is a lot of fun, and they make me wish I’d enjoyed Brain Age a while back. I’ll keep my eye out for a cheap copy of the sequel. Sports Champions I bought a PS Move bundle from an FYE store for 75% off, bringing the cost down to about fifteen dollars. I’ve wanted to try Move for a long time, and with two new games as well, I thought the bundle was worth it for the price. Sports Champions is another one of those titles that I imagine you’re not interested in hearing too much about, so I’ll keep this brief. In fact, I’m not even that interested in playing it—while it’s technically sound and well-made, I think the lack of another player (the bundle only came with one controller) and my Wii Sports days have burned me out on motion-controlled sports video games. I really wanted to comment on the Ping Pong portion of Sports Champions. While I breezed through the opposition in the title’s other sports (and had fun doing so), I can’t seem to find much success at all in table tennis. To be fair, I suck at Ping Pong in real life, but the way the CPU players return my serves and hits repeatedly seems to be a bit much! Has anyone else had the same experience? Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD Finally, I began The Wind Waker HD on the Wii U (or more specifically, my brother did). While I only played for about twenty minutes and watched for an hour or so, I was reminded of what makes the game so incredibly special—this is a great example of a title that truly deserved to be remastered. The HD graphics look spectacular (the pigeons on the side of the telescope your sister gives you at the beginning really made this clear right before the landscapes and characters did), the gamepad works impressively well (in the interest of full disclosure, I’ve been an outspoken proponent of the gamepad for a while—I thoroughly enjoy playing with it), and the game had aged outstandingly overall. Now, if only the fun I’ve had with the Wind Waker HD (and will have when I play it myself) didn’t remind me of Breath of the Wild’s delay! Next week, I’ll dive into one of the many downloadable games I have on the PS4 from Sony’s numerous sales, as well as a new title altogether (retail). I should be finished with Far Cry 4 soon, and I’ll record my final impressions of that too. Until next week!

So, Mark and I were able to check out the Nintendo Switch this afternoon (Saturday afternoon incase I end up not publishing this until Sunday :P) and while we didn’t really record too much (The one requirement is we needed to try and record hands in the shot which wasn’t always easy–especially if we were both playing), I still have a lot to talk about and a good amount of pictures too.
We managed to get there over an hour early, but a good amount of the line had already been formed. We were at least close to the front. It had started to snow quite a bit so I’m glad they let us in a bit early just to wait somewhere warm. Upon getting up the stairs, we were greeted by a really awesome Link statue:
First stop for us was right to Breath of the Wild. We couldn’t afford to go to E3 last year (though, even if we could I think it still would have been our first stop) so my husband has been dying to play it for so many reasons so of course I let him go for it.
There was a line throughout the entire event so I’m glad we got into the first group of people who were able to play.
Right next to it was Snipperclips so that was the next game we ended up playing. It really is so much fun and I wish we were able to play more before the demo ended.
I look forward to playing it in March–it’s definitely going to be a game we get pretty quickly if not at launch.
We then headed back towards the entrance to play Super Bomberman R. Having never played the classic Bomberman, I was so incredibly surprised I actually managed to win most of the rounds. I don’t think the other people we played against were too happy about it though. It really was a lot of fun though and while I think I still prefer the kind of battlefields the N64 version had, I definitely want to pick this game up soon at some point.
There were a few display set-ups showing the Switch as well: #gallery-0-9 { margin: auto; } #gallery-0-9 .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 50%; } #gallery-0-9 img { border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; } #gallery-0-9 .gallery-caption { margin-left: 0; } /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
This is really the only time we got to see the Joy-cons connected to the Grip though. We never actually got to play with it like that in the games we tried.
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe was next up and just, before I get into it, I want to just talk about the various set-ups they had. When they did something like this for the Wii U, it was mostly very sleek–everything was white and blue and it was generally smaller, but this place was so much bigger and just had all kinds of cool things set up. #gallery-0-10 { margin: auto; } #gallery-0-10 .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 33%; } #gallery-0-10 img { border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; } #gallery-0-10 .gallery-caption { margin-left: 0; } /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
The window is actually a video screen and clouds would float by. It was so cool. You could try Mario Kart 8 Deluxe here tabletop.
Probably one of my favorite set-ups. I just found it so cool.
Super Mario Odyssey wasn’t available to play, but they did have this video set up and even a photo op you could take with Mario and his hat.
This is a giant Pink Squid Amiibo that was near Splatoon 2 demos. There is no Pink Squid Amiibo. I would like a Pink Squid Amiibo, Nintendo.
I loved these so so so much. I kind of wish the Diner was actually serving special Mario-themed things just because it felt so authentic that I felt like it should have been, but it was just such a good display. Getting back onto the topic of Mario Kart 8, it’s SO nice to have a proper battle mode again. I was absolutely terrible at Bomb Rush because my aim continues to suck, but I still had fun. The game also easily runs a lot smoother. That said, I don’t personally feel it’s enough for me to want to rebuy the game and have to unlock everything again. I also just want to point out while I actually was okay with just using one Joy-con for Snipperclips, I actually found it pretty painful after a while in Mario Kart.
Next up was Street Fighter and before I get into the game itself, I just… want to talk about this a bit. So, most of the time my husband and I played together. I generally do not enjoy playing against people I don’t know for a lot of reasons unless I am also playing with someone I do know. Regardless, this guy wanted to play with someone so I ended up going up against him and just… do not assume and be a condescending jerk like this guy was. I picked Chun-Li and her color immediately and then he kept telling me how to choose my character and what button did what as if I’ve never played Street Fighter before, let alone a fighting game. I didn’t ask nor do I believe anything I said even came off that way. I’m pretty sure I even said I played the game before when the Nintendo Rep asked and the guy was already there at this point.
The reason the game didn’t continue? Because he actually hadn’t hit submit on his color not realizing the option was there. He just assumed that me, this girl in a cute sweater dress with a pink bag had no idea what I was doing and that it was my fault. And his response when he realized? “oops, it was me”. No apologies. No anything. So let me just say it was incredibly relieving to end up winning the match overall.
I did lose the first round (though, it was very close–it was down to one more hit on both sides), but won the next two even if the third it seemed he really wanted to be cheap with the projectiles. I don’t think he was happy that he was beaten by a girl who he essentially acted like she had never seen a game in her life. Just don’t act like this. If someone asks for help, that’s one thing, but don’t make all these assumptions and be a pompous jerk about it.
We then headed over to the other section and tried out Sonic Mania. I’ve mentioned before that Sonic is super important to me and while I love the 3D games more than the 2D ones, Sonic Mania was still really enjoyable. I played Tails so I mostly did nothing, but it was still pretty fun regardless.
Splatoon 2 was up next and I was super nervous as the gyro controls were on. We used pro-controllers, but I just do not do well with gyroscopes. Despite that, our first match I actually did the best with the most ink… well, inked, 8 kills, and 0 deaths. I did pretty well the second time too and both times our team won. I’m not sure how I feel on the new Roller special (the Super Jump Smash), but I still had fun. I’m definitely more interested in the story mode if anything, but I will probably pick this up in the Summer.
We decided to play Fast RMX next and I actually have never played an F-Zero Game so this was pretty new for me. My husband managed to get first place in our first race while I got third, but in our second race I got first and he got third. It was a really fun time and I think I actually had more fun with it than I did with Mario Kart. I think Mario Kart just had me permanently down due to the customization-stat things which I didn’t feel were in effect as much with Fast RMX.
The final game we played was ARMS. It’s pretty fun and I won each of the matches we did. I still don’t know if it’s my kind of game though. I feel like if someone asked, I’d play, but it’s not something I’d really pick up for myself to play as I’m just not super big into fighting games (even if I’m not that bad at them). It’s definitely a neat game though and I think it has a lot of potential so I’ll probably at least keep an eye on it.
When we left, we were given a cookie and a pin. Even though it wasn’t as much as the goodie bag we got at the Wii U event, it was still a nice surprise. The cookie was very tasty.
Overall thoughts: The Switch is really fun. I found the controllers easy to hold and lightweight, the games enjoyable, and just generally had a good time. All the Nintendo reps were great and time flew by even when we were just relaxing a bit. I would say the only negatives I can think of are my hand cramping a bit during Mario Kart and the Street Fighter issue I mentioned above (which has nothing against the game or system which were both fine). It was a great event and I’m so happy I got the opportunity to go. I’m so excited for March.
On getting to try the Nintendo Switch! #NintendoSwitch #Nintendo So, Mark and I were able to check out the Nintendo Switch this afternoon (Saturday afternoon incase I end up not publishing this until Sunday :P) and while we didn't really record too much (The one requirement is we needed to try and record hands in the shot which wasn't always easy--especially if we were both playing), I still have a lot to talk about and a good amount of pictures too.
