dude this book. i need to talk. about it. im going insane.

everyone who hasn't read it, PLEASE DO!!! it's a dark academia book about a bunch of gay silly magic people that join a society and try to kill each other. there's time travel, a big ass polycule, aesthetic scenes, the prettiest writing style in the world, science, philosophy, and fucked family. (opposite of found family).

(extremely chaotic unorganized long rant below, with spoilers. click at your own risk)

FIRST OF ALL WHY WAS THIS SO MUCH BETTER THAN THE FIRST ONE?!!?!?

i had to power through the first one, it felt long, and unnecessary and like trekking through a JUNGLE with the thickest and most intricate ecosystem that i had to peel back and unravel for hours and hours. only to like move the plot by an inch.

BUT THIS. olivie blake found her footing because this was so good. i am aware the reviews hate on this book and some people don't like it, but personally i adore it and it's really well written.

CHARACTERS

bro they all had such wonderful voices, like they were distinct and unique from each other but not drastically, noticeably different I NEED TO LEARN FROM THIS. six of crows and the atlas six do multi povs so well <3 its like this book was made for me, each character was perfect and incredible and gay and silly and-

reina. love of my life. i look forward to all her povs because the plants are so silly and she's the best character. i said it. she's canon asexual now too YEES. i needed more of her because she was barely in the first one, and they DELIVERED. the juicy plot with her 'god complex' (ily callum) and her feelings getting hurt and learning she actually is lonely and wants friends? she's so wanda maximoff. next book better have her opening up and learning to love people or i riot (and also her killing people and being the badass she is)

parisa always my fave too, i do wish her character wasn't always talking about sex or romance, there were some great moments in this book where she showed off her telepathy powers (the prince in the tower!!) it was awesome. i'm glad they acknowledged that side of her with reina, (oh my god i ship them so much wait till i rant about them-) but dude i still HATE DALTON. SO MUCH. OH MY GOD. every time it's her pov i dread seeing dalton, i wish she could give that up. generic white men should die.

CALLUM. whatever turned him from complex, daunting, and a psychopath last book to janus from sanders sides this book- beautiful choice. he's literally the one sassy wine-sipping gay aunt that feels nothing and everything at once, also extremely mentally ill and depressed. he's SO FUNNY. his povs are fucking hilarious to read, and he quickly became one of my faves bc of how complex he is. i'm not smart enough to decipher and psychoanalyze him but god i LOVE CHARACTERS LIKE THIS.

i don't know what happened but nico is literally one of my faves now too, he's so silly and sweet and kind and i loved his relationships with everyone this book. like him trying to murder tristan in multiple different ways oml. he's my bbg. tristan was hit or miss for me, i did find him interesting but he's not my favourite. doesn't mean i hate him, he's so very british, i feel it radiating off the page. libby my queen my icon, her dream povs were so trippy i loved it- so so realistic to a real dream, that was the most surprising and unique part. also my bisexual queen seducing belen??

i did not like ezra and atlas was a little iffy here and there but tbh the cast was so well rounded and interesting and unique but paralleled each other so well?? THE RELATIONSHIPS. I DONT THINK ANY BOOK HAS THIS INTRICATE WEB-LIKE RELATIONSHIPS WITH EACH OTHER. they're one big polycule.

RELATIONSHIPS

nico and libby <3 i love them so much as siblings/queerplatonic partners. i don't ship them romantically, because i LOVE how they subverted the eye-rolling predictable ' YA academic rivals enemies to lovers' trope. when i started TAS, i immediately thought they were gonna get together and assumed the worst. but no, they still had the banter and importance in their relationship but without the romance? instead both of them were gay af. it's beautiful. i love subverting tropes so much. they're each other's 'other half' and they're hilarious together.

NICO AND TRISTAN. they were such a highlight this book, it was unexpected but so funny. nico trying to murder tristan and their little talks because 'they're not friends...just coworkers' yeah right, the best friendships start with creatively murdering each other. tristan being droll and chill af, and then nico bouncing off the walls my adhd king.

reina and nico broke me?? like that one chapter where they sparred and caught up with each other and reina was guarding her hurt feelings. DUDE THAT KILLED ME. made me stare at the ceiling for a good minute. their friendship is everything to me, they contrast each other so well. she deserves to be treated better- when they had that projection chapter and she saw that nico downplayed her skills...like she was good, but not good enough for him to care about her. AGGHGH.

REINA AND PARISA. NOW THIS. THIS HOOKED ME INTO THE BOOK. i ship them so bad guys. they parallel each other and are both hot and enemies to lovers and wlw slow burn and- look. reina is asexual, therefore the only person to truly see and understand parisa for who she is, and not be influenced by her body. like that one projection. she can help parisa understand HERSELF and who she is past her sexual desirability. how to love someone again. romantically. then, on the flip side, parisa can help reina see and understand OTHERS. reina only sees people as one trait, cut and dry- without any of the complex feelings. parisa is a telepath, she knows how to read others. THEY CAN BOTH HELP EACH OTHER AND LOVE EACH OTHER IN WAYS THEY NEVER COULD HAVE OMFDADJFLSKJADFL- also reina pinned her against a wall and they want to kill each other and every time they interact i scream into my pillow-

now we just gotta play the familiar game "IS IT DELUSION OR IS IT JUST SLOW BURN" and find out whether their insane chemistry pays off in book 3.

the nico parisa scene was actually sweet ngl, even though i don't ship them. the whole callum and tristan thing was so bitter exes situationship coded and i ate every second up. especially that last conversation. AND OFC. GIDEON AND NICO?!!! AAAAA THEY WERE SO CUTE THEY'RE ENDGAME I SCREAMED WHEN THEY KISSED DUDE THEYRE SO-

PLOT

now for the actual plot. this book has so many interesting subjects and philosophies and debates i'm not smart enough for this. but past all the aesthetic glamour, it's science, time travel, dreams, multiverses, fate, reality, and the complexities of the human mind. and my god it's fascinating as fuck.

do i have any idea what they do in this society?? NO. am i entertained? YES. especially that whole explosion paradox to bring libby back to the future. the whole powering the connections via aurora borealis? the whole debate about being gods? i love it. i love it.

alright im so sorry for that rant, i gotta go now but DUDE I LOVE THIS BOOK NO MATTER HOW WEIRD IT WAS

Not me stalking your account simply by the fact that you say that rawest stuff about my fave character (Keefe) ummm anyways

I used to really hate Fitz for being mad at Keefe for joining the Neverseen and not really understanding his best friend, but a recent reread made me realize that Keefe leaving was SO much more startling for Fitz than Sophie or the reader. Sophie saw the small sighs really early on. I'd even argue that it was as early as Exile. The alicorn ride where he stopped joking for a moment to lay himself out a little? Then of course there's the whole thing with Keefe's mom "dying" and all that, but Fitz probably thought his cheery, happy-go-lucky friend would be okay. Those scenes leading up to Loadstar where you see Keefe's fear and anger? ONLY Sophie sees it. Suddenly Fitz sees his brother and best friend who seem really similar are now a part of the Neverseen? With SO little warning? Without what Sophie saw, I would feel betrayed and angry too. And how would Keefe feel? I bet he felt a lot more alone once he realized that he hid his pain so well that even his best friend didn't really know him.

Sorry, that wasn't really a question and was a bit long, but I thought I'd put it here in case you had some cool thoughts to add that I may have missed. :) (Since you're so good at it)

i feel like keefe and fitz have such an interesting dynamic and i hope shannon like makes them actually talk about shit instead of being like oh fitz is fine with everything now. bc yea fitz really doesnt know a lot of the things going on with keefe and like it goes to show how his demeanour totally changed in that one scene in lodestar when he saw the memories keefe was showing sophie.

honestly i am well over my 'hating fitz' phase that i feel like all kotlc fans have at some point, hes a great character but nooot that great of a friend to keefe? imo? idk i dont think its on purpose i just feel like, like you said, he sees this persona that keefe puts up and doesnt think to look any deeper, even after keefe came back from the neverseen like the only time hes hung out with keef that i can remember being mentioned is when he was looking for memories with cassius, when he was complaining abt sophie to him, or when he needed those drawings for sophies gift. and again its not that much his fault, he just assumes everything is fine and also has his own stuff going on but like still dude. they definitely both need to talk abt like a lot of stuff (coughs what alden said to him in flashback coughs im not still salty youre still salty)

It started with Argyle convincing Billy to try pineapple pizza. "Try before you deny". Billy tried it after months of resisting and now it's his fave pizza

Turns out Argyle was right (again) and Billy will rather die than admit it

Hi!!! I just wanted to say that I LOVED EVERY WORD OF YOUR HAZBIN RANT!

Hazbin has been on my mind for like the past month and it has not dwindled in intensity. I also love all the hotel staff, and Alastor is a huge fave of mine too!! BUT yeah the plot is basically just: sugu goes out to a bar w satoshoko, gets drunk even though he literally never gets drunk, and so reader discovers that he is, in fact, the sappy kind. (shocker!) it’s just sooooo sickeningly fluffy and he’s so whipped. ☹️☹️ he’s like a puppy. all he can think of is reader and how much he wants to put a ring on their finger HE’S SOOOOO

AND THEN ….. wolf/hunter!sugu x little red riding hood!reader OHHHH MICKEY IM SO HAPPY U ASKED…. this concept entered my brain and has Not left even once but its still just this vague idea in my head. im just so interested in fairy tale aus!! i figure its probably gonna end up kinda twisted? or maybe a mix between sweet/twisted if i can pull it off 😭😭 bUT the main idea is that sugu plays the part of both the wolf AND the hunter, reader doesnt know who to trust but sugu is their only option either way. at first i was thinking of making him like a whole Wolf Man but now im leaning towards it being more symbolic … the trustworthy hunter was the ”wolf” all along yk? IM SO FOND OF THIS ONE i cant wait to write it !!! ive been itching to write something a lil more gritty anyhow :33

AND FINALLY LAST BUT NOT LEAST … skatergirl!nobara x reader <333333 my most beloved ever. i only have a vague outline but im sooo in love w this concept mickey im overjoyed that it caught ur eye….. just . picture nobara being covered in hello kitty band aids bc she’s not very good at skating but she just thinks it’s SO fun and she goes to the skate park w maki while wearing acrylic nails and she’s just having such a blast :(( grinning and giggling!!! she’s literally my daughter i adore her ….

my idea for the fic is basically just that reader has this weird one-sided rivalry w nobara bc they’re a bit jealous of her + she’s so pretty it makes them angry LOL and they assume that she doesnt notice them at all… but in reality nobara is like HIGHKEY crushing on reader she does these complicated flips JUST to impress them she’s a lovergirl!!! so it’s basically just super duper fluffy n sweet hehe <33

So i love almost all versions of him but my favourite one has to be the tnba ver

A lot of ppl dont like his design but i adore it

He looks adorable

But he can look spooky too

I just love his expressions, his voice.

Ya know how theres a little bit of difference in every joker?

So in most of animated series joker wants to kill batman, and he does too. Ofc i know most other versions dont wanna kill him, instead wants to make him suffer.

And how other jokers don't care ab money. Well, hes pretty money hungry. You can see it in the ep 'joker's millions'.

Can't believe he pays rent when he can't find a hiding place 😭

He has his hyenas there too, so thats cute. He has also called them his children once.

Loved joker since i was little (at that time i only knew ab the btas one cus thats that went on tv) im not sure why, maybe cus i finded him funny.

I am also really impressed by ppl doing card tricks, so i loved when he did it. Even when he used it as his weapon.

His ego is all over. He believes stuff that actually aren't true.

His teeth is whiter than the others. The jokers does take care of themselves (hair,lipstick,probably showers) even tought this one doesn't bother w make up.

Love his hair, it looks so spikey, it also must be fluffy.

and yeah I try really hard to balance Gregory out to not just be the average sweetie 8 year old and not basically an adult either, but a 12 year old boy who does what he wants and is an immovable object but he chooses kindness.

i recently found your tumblr and i just realised that i forgot to tell you....

i would like to sincerely thank you because you and your videos are the reason why i got into one piece this year. i watched your law/corazon one and thought that it was an interesting dynamic, but your zosan one got me HOOKED

i actually grew up with one piece, kind of watching some episodes on tv, kind of reading random chapters above my bro's shoulder, so i knew the main frame and the main spoilers, but i never really started to read it from A to Z on my own (well i tried once, back in 2015. i lasted 66 chapters💀)

besides the length, one of the main reason why i didn't get into it before was because dudebros fans/powerscalers had me convinced it was just another shonen anime like naruto, bleach etc (no shade to them, i also grew up watching/reading them (with more involvement than with OP too, i just can't say they're my fave mangas ever, even if i like them. they're pretty classic if you look at the formula imo))

ANYWAY,,, i started catching up from chapter 66 in january and less than a 100 days later i was caught up👍🏽 if i had been told that it was mainly a story about adventure, friendship, dreams and FOUND FAMILY i would have gotten into it a good decade ago at least. but it's actually all because of a video that i decided to watch on a whim. i can honestly say one piece is one of my favorite manga EVER, and you're the one who lit up the spark, so from the bottom of my heart, thank you❤️

(also goes to show how important what you're doing is... the way fans showcase the media they like has a huge impact on its image and you shade a different (if i may, more accurate) light on what one piece is about)

Just started listening to the first Wool book slowly as I watch Silo, only 3 episodes to go and dude, the spoiler being right at the start surprised me. I guessed the green display was the lie somehow because it looked WAY too good/fake. I'm really interested as to how everything got there, the start of all of it, the previous generations etc. also love how even though it's post-apocalyptic it's not all grimdark, but realistic. Just wanted to rant at someone about it cause I saw your post 😂 Have you read/seen it all?

yes!! please come rant to me about it i love it. i have read the first two books and watched the whole show, if you are interested in the world and history, you will love the second book. i just havent read the third bc i got so into the murderbot diaries i havent read anything else lol. i also was kind of shocked with the pacing of the show, i like how you uncover whats going on slowly over the course of the book, but i also know that with adapting things to screen theres a big difference lol. i hope you like the book!! i love it i think its one of my faves of the genre and i agree that i like the atmosphere and how its grim but not overwhelmingly pessimistic. the show ends like 1/3 of the way through the book so if you are wanting to fully read along youll have a long wait lol but im glad youre enjoying it!!

ITS THE PORTAL AND PAW PATROL ANON HI all i did out of extreme brainrot of my two faves i kind of like roleswapped the characters so the entire thing about portal is a test subject who tries and succeeds to escape a laboratory; in the first portal the one who overviews (an AI robot) the testing wakes this test subject and makes her undergo a bunch of tests before attempting to kill her, the test subject shuts this AI down and escapes but gets dragged back in the facility, and in the second portal she and along with a friend (also a robot) accidentally re-powers up this AI but she DOES escape but not before going through a Miscommunication Saga with the other two characters (you should actually go see portal 1 and 2 its so cool and lovely)

so like i was just thinking Rocky being the test subject character Chase being the AI (there are lore reasons /pos) and Marshall being the one who assists Rocky in escaping which kind of leads to this funny interaction Chase: Hey, who turned off the lights? Marshall, opening a wall to help Rocky escape: (Horrible accent) Hey buddy! Ahm speakin' in an accent that is beyond his range of hearing! Rocky, in pure disbelief: ... Marshall: Ah know ahm early, but we gotta go RIGHT NOW! Walk casually towards my direction, and we'll go shut 'im down! (Rocky approaches Marshall) Chase: Hey, metal dog, I CAN hear you. Marshall: Run! I don't need to do the voice! Run! RUUNNN!

and this (Rocky tries to escape through a door, the door then falls revealing it to be a trap.) Chase: I sincerely, truly, did not think you would fall for that. (He starts to corner Rocky) In fact, I devised a much more elaborate trap when you got through this easy one. If I had known you'd let yourself get trapped this easily, I would have dangled a turkey leg on a rope from the ceiling Rocky determined not to react because he doesn't want to give Chase the satisfaction of a response:

all this really stemmed from how i think marshall and the test subject's friend would get along really well,,, but I hope this didn't cause too much discomfort on your end! (very ooc im aware, but it was fun)

recent follower here saying hi (not white, was aware of the recent conversation re: racism in the sandman fandom and followed closely but felt I didn't have anything to add). I remember reading your metas a while ago and I enjoyed your analysis a lot! and now I'm glad to learn you and many others have been focusing on encouraging people in the sandman fandom to branch out and appreciate characters other than dream and hob. I do think that unlearning the racist 'only shipping the two white dudes' pattern across English-speaking fandoms can actually free us up for more creation and more joy!! I certainly feel tempted...

Thank you so much for your message! I'm glad that we are having these conversations but I would really like to encourage fans of colour to speak out and get involved as well. I am trying to focus on finding a solution to the problem that doesnt resort to petty ship wars and I think one of the best ways is to just encourage more engagement in fan works focused on the characters of colour, and just broadening the space to include everyone and making people aware that these conversations are totally fine to have. I want to hear from poc and I really hope that my blog feels welcoming for you.

Their best volume: Honestly? V9. In a volume where everyone kind of either stayed stagnant or tanked for me, Ruby became one of my faves. I related to her a lot, and her blowout in Episode 7 was, again, honestly cathartic for me. Obviously the episode after that was utter garbage and made me feel like absolute shit but after the garbage heap that was V8, I’m glad they managed to clutch her for me. Other than that… obviously the first 3 volumes

I do have some problems with the game, but overall it's fun to play. Probably wyll or laezel. Initially I was gonna go for shadowheart bcs I really liked her character design and my tav also hs that similar kind of dry sarcastic sense of humour. But after having her for a while in my party, she got on my nerves real quick. I tried out some races and she almost always had something to say about it. Im not thst far into it and I like astarion but the fact that he can leave ur party if ur character kicks him in the nuts sent me and now I can't take him seriously. I think my tav enjoys messing around with him. I just keep throwing spells at him and reviving him and he hasn't left yet so he's a trooper. 😂

I was playing as a tiefling originally but they kept having stuff to say about them being a tiefling and it got kinda annoying so I changed it to something else. /lh 💀

Playing as a Sorcerer is so much fun I can just make shit explode. Idk how to use astarion though, I just make him throw arrows and hide, he doesn't really do much in fights, but he's funny so I keep him around. I might get rid of shadowheart, but she's also a cleric and provides good heals so idk. She's so fine but she's really got a poll stuck up her ass so idk. Some of the remarks she makes about certain races and some of her actions towards a certain character because they are that race (don't wanna spoil it) just kind of put me off especially with her being white. I'm aware it's fantasy and stuff and I haven't finished the story, but anyways we'll see, maybe she'll get better. 😅

Wyll is my fave so far, he's super underrated!! I do wish there were more romance options of color though. I think so far I've only met one which is Wyll. 😭😭

i mean he's good for picking locks. that was actually his sole purpose for me for the longest. then is tarted respecing him/multiclasing him thus he became my lock picker AND my arrow man in certain PTs. or my arrow man/shadow man. i am sure i dont use that to the full potential bc i am such a newb but wte. so you're not alone.

I know people wnat to include Karlach bc of what Larian did with her features [some people said she was modled after Gemma Chan] but I do not, because her voice actress is white. IDC. She is white. She a white woman who got surgery. Blame Z----l, if it makes yall feel better. She got a fetish or something. But Karlach is WHITE.
