Hacker Defense Strategy

….So I did a thing.

First I should start at the beginning. My friend’s discord account was hacked today and the hacker messaged me. It was actually pretty convincing as at first I didn’t realize what was going I and was genuinely worried for them.

And by the time I received their message, it had already been 8 hours, so while waiting for a response I went over to a DPXDC discord server I shared with them. (Not the DPXDC discord server but a server, although I think we might be apart of that one too.) And the very first thing I saw was this.

….huh

*peeks over at the message again. Looking at the sender*

Huh

What a coincidence.

So naturally I ask the DPXDC server, tell them about the message, and check to see if this was the hacker or if perhaps I had gotten a message from my friend before they were hacked.

I check the DM with Eros again and I see this.

A link.

…..

suspicious.

I’m starting to think that this may not be my friend.

So what do I do? Report it? Ignore it? Ask for help? All of the above?

No, no I do not.

Now, you are going to need some context. You remember that shared discord server I was a part of? Well, when one greets a new person in a server we have the option to ‘wave’ and say hello to them as a sticker of a character appears. Sometimes it’s a peach, sometimes a dog, or a robot, or a bird. Well this one person in the server became obsessed with the peach. So much so that whenever someone got the peach sticker they would SCREAM peach and just start chanting it in the chat. And then naturally other people started doing so as well because no one in this server is normal (and I love it so much). There may have been a cult. And a channel dedicated to the peach cult. Not important. But basically! The peach became such an important part of this server and then we discovered that you can acess the wave stickers at will. And they ✨vibrate✨ So naturally we bombard any newcomer to the server with peaches. So I think this is a perfectly natural response to the hacker.

But do I stop at one?

Psshhh. Of course not.

Keep in mind that as this is going on, I am giving live updates to said discord server on how the conversation is going.

It went something like this.

Hacker: listen to me! Me: peach peach peach peach peach peach Hacker: this is very important! Me: peach peach peach peach peach peach Hacker: you are in danger! You must call this ID. Me: peach peach peach peach peach Hacker: ok, don’t forget to call them.

And after many peaches I think they just kinda gave up.

But do I stop there?!

No. No I do not.

I go back to the DPXDC server and start typing.

That’s right.

I got the entire discord server to DM this person and spam the peach. All 233 of us (or at least of who was online at the time).

It was glorious.

But DID I STOP THERE!?

Hah! No.

ROUND TWO!

I might have been having too much fun with this.

In the end, the real Eros managed to get a new account and I’m pretty sure the hacker got blocked (or they blocked us, not sure which) and currently Eros 2.0 is trying to rebuilt and save as much data as possible. They also found our response to the hacker hilarious.

Remember! Internet safety everybody! Don’t click on mysterious links and if someone says you might get banned, do research first before anything. A single report (even on accident) won’t ban you or trolls would have taken advantage of that a long time ago. And no personal information! Not even between friends! The reason Eros still has most of their personal info intact was mostly because they didn’t want anyone (even someone friendly) to have access to their writing prompts and stories. So they were very lucky.

You know how wild it is to see comments on YouTube of children going "i subed. im 7"

I did not interact with the YouTube comments until I was a teenager. I have made a grand total of less than 5 comments. Because I'm a pussy who was scared of saying something stupid and having the internet show up at my door to shank me. Yknow. Exactly what I was taught would happen.

And I stare at these comments and I think to myself

'If you knew your address, you would've posted it.'

I can't even believe I'm making this post right now. I'm shaking awfully. If you're an adult who plays Sky, like I am, I would just like to remind you that you have a responsibility to behave appropriately because a large amount of the players are not.

I just had a very uncomfortable experience with another player who was not behaving as such. Thank God it was me and not a LITERAL CHILD. I've already reported them.

If you are a child who plays Sky and you have something happen to you that is not appropriate, you need to tell a trusted adult and report it to the support page if possible.

I just wanted to say that Susie is still a minor. Even if the body is an adult she would still fall in the "syskid" category. Every night or so I do a big sweep of everyone's (Susie's, Abvy's, and now Kris') blogs to make sure they're being safe, appropriate and just generally weeding out anything that doesn't pass the 'vibe check' for their own online safety.

I just had to delete some asks and block some accounts.

Just please keep in mind that this isn't JUST an ask-blog and that Susie is REAL. She has a lot more feelings than she lets on.

On the subject of internet safety that has been brought up numerous times in multiple situations going on.

I figured I'd make a proper post on it

What is cyber safety?

Cyber saftey is the practice of protecting oneself and others from potential harms and risks associated with using the internet and other online platforms. 

What are the best ways you can practice cyber saftey?

Other ways you can practice.

Censoring out things like you're face or surroundings that may give detail on you.

Being careful where you roam on the internet and what part you're staying on.

(Example staying on lighter media and not roaming into dangerous parts of the internet like the animal abuse system, pedophilia and groomer spaces, illegal spaces, and those places)

Not sharing information such as locations(even if its just as brief "north texas"), any medical or legal documents, full name, and family details.

And as always telling a trusted adult when something gets out of hand.

These are all steps you can put in place to keep yourself safe online.

The internet is a very unstable and unsafe place especially for minors. Taking these measures to keep yourself safe online is very important and needs to be done more.

YouTube is Analyzing everything about you.

No I'm serious. Everything. Today I checked my YouTube settings, because I'm not particularly happy with YouTube, and the way they seem to be catering to and protecting it's extremist far right misogynistic racist radicals. Wow, what a shocker! They also seem to be censoring everyone else on the platform who don't share these dangerous and harmful ideals... God forbid I bring logic and reasoning into an argument right!?

But that's when I discovered just how insidious the site truly is .. mind you, all kinds of people use YouTube, and they are absolutely deadset on letting us know: HEY, DID YOU KNOW THAT KIDS USE THIS SITE TOO!!!

And yet, they bully and defame anyone who preaches equality and love, Rather than unsubstantiated and unearned hate ..? hmmm... Very SUS indeed...

But I'm talking about their insidious practices regarding information collection. Every site has cookies, unfortunately there is no such thing as privacy anymore, that is true .. but YouTube takes it up a notch with invasive and disgusting tactics. They analyze how old you are, where you are, they may even speculate on your employment status, your home, and whether you're married and have kids or not .. EVEN YOUR EDUCATION LEVEL. (am I sensing some classism too?)

The list goes on...

Also, YouTube seems to know that no, I currently don't have kids, and yet they keep pushing baby ads, and pamper commercials at me? Seems not creepy or predatory at all! Oh, YouTube...Are you as a PLATFORM trying to indoctrinate me, and put me into your little placid 1950s box? I think you are!!

As I brought up earlier— they prey on all types of people, treat the ones that fit their outdated ideas better. They claim to be a progressive and welcoming place, (just take one look at their homepage) however, they've shown anything but. They are not allies unless it suits their own needs at the time and makes them money... Or garners ad revenue. They'll scream gay rights during pride month, and rip down the rainbow flags and flag content creators like trash right after.

And ultimately actions speak louder than words ever will.

So why are they as a VIDEO MAKING SITE, trying to find out these things about ANYONE? LET ALONE CHILDREN??

Honestly we should just deplatform YouTube as an entire site at this point.
