krypton is a gaping hole in kal-el.

clark kent is, according to his driver’s license and his about me blurb that prints increasingly smaller on his corner of the new dailyplanet.com, a classic sweetheart from western kansas with a bachelors in journalism and a one bedroom half bath three streets and a bus ride away from the daily planet in the heart of downtown metropolis. clark kent is celebrating his recent win - getting the printer to work without the hinge suffering a sheer fracture - with an extra sugar packet in his second cup of joe for the day and humoring his next desk neighbor’s heckling over it.

kal-el — superman — is the man receiving the mayor’s accolades with the world and the laser focused glare of the police chief weighing on his shoulders. according to, kal-el is,

clark kent is the well-meaning dork who never quite grew into his size and was bullied in high school, when asked he recounts being too sickly to join the football team and too unpopular to get over it. clark kent arrives early and works late to work off his four and a half years of student loan debt. clark kent has childhood friends, and an ex-girlfriend, and a budding romance with the abrasive, dyslexic, isn’t-she-just-lovely lois lane at the desk next to him who’s recently recruited him as her partner-in-foiling-crime.

superman — kal-el — has a baby blanket wrapped around his shoulders, a hunk of metal in a barn a couple thousand miles away, and a name with syllables even his mother can’t pronounce. a logo on his chest that he does not know and a dedication to love and truth and saving that is deeply, entirely human.

krypton is an aching absence in kal-el. krypton is the word he carries in his mind for when he fumbles his keys and almost breaks the doorknob, for when he hunches and smears his glasses. krypton is the lack of an explanation. krypton is, simply put, not. krypton is to kal-el not what kansas is to clark kent. kansas excuses the overfriendliness and the impromptu vacation days “to care for his ailing mother” and the handiness with a tractor. krypton is the torch they carry alongside their pitchforks when the bludgeoning begins. krypton is the response when the tragedy is unpreventable, when the wariness pitches into fear.

krypton is the world he holds in his heart when he can’t help but wonder. krypton is the sword his enemies hold over his head — a condemnation, a promise, a hope — and lord over him. the world is trapped in memories not his own, preserved in the perverted motives of those who would trade lives for tradition.

krypton is, later, eventually, a bridge. kal-el, an ambassador from a culture he’s borrowed to the one he was fated. clark kent, a haven. krypton is a girl in a spaceship of her own, fleeing from a krypton that was.

one last thing I will say on that topic. Americans getting upset about you calling out Zionism. When you're not talking about Judaism or in fact, about religion at all. When you're talking about a national military funded by a country that has been dropping bombs on the middle east since the 1980s. But then I suppose when people who are so so so comfortable with equating a whole religion, or further a whole entire group of multiple ethnicities, with simply 'terrorism', are criticised on any aspect of their wrongdoings of course they must think we're talking about their whole religion. tbh it's kind of interesting to me that dark always wanted a merge and completely rejected krad's idea of keeping daisuke's body for himself. there's the obvious reasons as to why like dark simply Not Wanting to be Krad and loathing operating at all as an 'infection' forcefully taking over their bodies and completely erasing the hikari's selves--- hiwatari's 'if a shadow is behind the circle, then you have a hole' (if the shadow is within the circle, you have a full sphere,) line comes to mind, throw in the whole dark is love / krad is sorrow thing, and you get the idea that 'grief and intense unregulated sorrow doesn't just take something away from you, but also makes you lose parts (or sometimes the whole) of yourself,' but then what does that say for dark? love and desire can change you into something you are, but aren't? (in both a healthy, and also very ominous and unhealthy way, of course.) had dark and any of his hosts actually 'become one' wouldn't you end up with a brand new third entity, a literal composite? my intrigue comes the most from the way that dark at least superficially behaves in such an intensely independent way, but then between stealing for half-selfless reasons, his miserable history, the way he outright desperately doesn't want to be forgotten even if he thinks poorly of himself as a bad person and yet also avoids/excises himself from so many intimacies --- was he really willing and interested in becoming one with his hosts even if it meant getting rid his old, individual self?? for all his bravado and natural arrogant personality, all the signs pretty much point to dark and dark alone wanting to merge so that he'd either be 'better' as a person, more suitable as a real, proper human being, and/or so that he wouldn't have to be, (or rather, keep being,) alone???

With that being said-- how do people feel about a "permanent" inbox call post? Just for my own reassurance so I don't feel like I'm bothering people but don't wanna like... constantly make a new inbox call post. Basically just a list of people commenting below a post, one that maybe specifies whether people prefer random IC interactions or want asks leaning more to IC questions/ooc headcanons stuff?

I know it's silly because if we're mutuals, we shouldn't be afraid to reach out to each other, BUT !! I also know some people do not like random asks, so... it would just be for the sake of... "You have permission to send random things whenever you feel like it" but of course it's not like I'm expecting you to answer things immediately after I send them either.

But yeah, just a thought! If it seems too silly I'll just keep making individual posts each time ♡ c':

thinking about sebastian squeezing me really tight and telling me things are gonna be ok. even if i'm really scared. he cradles my face and wipes my tears away with his thumbs and lets me lay on his chest. he's softly humming so i can focus on the sound of his voice as he strokes my hair and plays with the little pieces of glitter stuck between the strands. or he'll infodump about jazz just so my brain can try to focus on that instead of the things that are scaring me.

since i still cant sleep he plays something relaxing on my piano by my bed. but i still cant sleep bc i just wanna keep staring at him. and he's just shaking his head and smiling at me while playing the same lullaby over and over. "you're supposed to go to sleep." well maybe i dont wanna. maybe i wanna stare at my boyfriend's pretty face all night. hm?? what then, pretty boy??? you ever think of that?? you ever consider the fact that you're too beautiful for me to look away from??? you fool. put those baby blues away, they are dangerous.

but then he gets serious, holds my hand and kisses it, and repeats that everything is gonna turn out ok. he says it with such certainty. things will work out. and he stays with me just like that, holding my hand and whispering soothing words until i finally fall asleep.
