The Apothecary Diaries #20: Not me trying to figure out what Chinese medicine they could have concocted in the palace to use to keep Jinshi's libido (?) in check. My wager is likely herbs that lower testosterone (spearmint/mint since it lowers androgen maaaaybe? Tho it's kind of been debunked in Science that it affects testosterone), or herbs that promote the "yin" energy in his body. My inner geek demands to know if the novel ever goes into details! Because, I mean, the show is about all things apothecary. But I have to say him risking his future heirs to play his role is pretty ballsy of him indeed. I can also see why he would be sensitive about his frog because one should not underestimate the potency of TCM and who knows how many years the poor boy's been downing that drink.

But also, Jinshi being 19 made me wonder, wouldn't his voice have already cracked way before that? Not that it's relevant, because the voice of Jinshi (24), despite not being deep deep, doesn't sound like some high-pitched prepubescent teenager either. In fact, he sounds pretty normal for say... a 19-year-old... and that's because he IS! So what was altering his voice about when he doesn't even sound like a gruff old man because he, pretend age 24, can already pass off with his 19yo pitch? Unless it's just to differentiate his voice from the crown prince... not that it completely makes sense to me either, because then wouldn't they need to make Crown Prince Jinshi (19) sound even younger to contrast with Jinshi (24)? Or should it be the other way around since Jinshi (24) is an eunuch? Though I wouldn't think too hard about that as well, since there's little chance of both Jinshis making their appearance at the same time.

The title is "Are There Freshwater Octopus Species?" which should be an incredibly straightforward thing to answer: No.
