Okay, I think I know enough about my characters and their backstories to try to plot out this story.
#breaking out the index cards#because my favorite way to plot is to write out all the events on index cards#then put them in order and rearrange them if necessary#writing#across the dune sea

When I was a kid, I thought writing books would be, like, sitting in a cottage near the ocean with the windows open while serene creativity and inspired peace flow.
Instead it’s fighting for spare moments in between work and neverending mental obstacles while you send your friends messages like this:

#original writing#writing#and it’s not even like my writing is better for it either#i was doing fine when i was a pampered teenager fucking around with index cards#at least i have hot chocolate and cats

Hello! I think I've sent a message before denoting how much I loved all of your word collections and writers' note posts. A lot of my commonplace index cards regarding words, definitions and related words come from your blog and I just wanted to reiterate how much your blog makes me happy as a word lover and hoarder! ( *´°`)★
Oh, this makes me so happy to read! From one word hoarder to another—thank you so much for letting me know <3
#ask#more word lists & writing notes to come!#now i want to find my old index cards & finally dust them off

Patient Zero
An index case, or patient zero, is the first person to present specific symptomatology. While generally it is used in regards to contagious diseases, it has other uses as well.
The term is slightly controversial due to its non-specific implications. It can refer to the first case of a disease ever, the first case in a specific location, or the first case detected. The diverse meanings of the word may lead to confusion and lack of clarity.
As such, this prompt refers to the first person to either be detected, or ever present, a specific set of symptoms. At minimum, they are the first person to experience the symptoms in a given area.

When my dad was a little younger than I am now he decided when he had a place of his own he wanted to have a big sturdy dining room table in his house. He couldn’t afford it at the time, and it would be nearly twenty years before he got the table he was daydreaming about back then, but he got it. At the time when I was told about this table being a dream of his I decided my thing was going to be a cuckoo clock. That’s how I would know I was settled down and grown up. I thought he had just picked some expensive furniture piece on a whim and a cuckoo clock seemed more fun. It’s only now that I’m twenty five and moving from place to place for work that I’m starting to get it.
A big sturdy dining room table means you’re living somewhere stable, first off. You don’t buy something like that unless you know you’re not going to have to leave it behind when you move again. It means you have the funds to buy it, the space for it to go, and the confidence that those circumstances aren’t going to change up on you.
More importantly, you don’t buy a big sturdy dining room table to eat alone. I grew up eating mostly in the kitchen but with regular meals around that big table with friends, family, guests of all sorts. That table has groaned under the weight of buffet foods at parties, family dinners where we crammed more people around it than even it was meant to take, birthday cakes, and celebration meals. Many of my favourite memories of extended family are meals at that table.
I don’t have the funds or the stability to have a table like that, not yet. But I think my dad had the right idea.
#in the meantime I think I’m going to make a little bit of home to take with me#because the other thing my dad values as much as the table is his beaten up box of index cards that he hand writes recipes onto#and that I can start making for myself#something to take with me as I go#t#personal post

Referring to an earlier post I made , this is my stack of index cards that I carry with me everywhere :3 I make these for three dollars each ( plus money , if you get doodles and-or laminated but it doesn’t exceed over six dollars ; unless you purchase an extra set of index cards so you don’t run out )
But , as an example , this is what it looks like ! It has two “ covers ” which can open and you can put anything that fits inside ( last picture ) . You can put the “ covers ” on either way ya like , for me I keep them in the back to separate the blank index cards from the written things or drawing wise .
I encourage all my fellow writers and artists to carry some index cards with them ! It helps so much with creative stuff but you can write anything ya need on them ^-^
If anyone is interested in purchasing my index cards ( with free shipping btw ) , which I call “ memoirs ” , let me know in the comments , reposts , or DMs !

Angsty Storyboard

22 September 2024 // Pencil on index card
Doing a little practice storyboard, it ended up angsty. I really like drawing scenes like this, I think the tension and potential for banter is really satisfying.
#fun fact: the speech in the bubbles is abridged cause i cannot write that small <3#sylvthetic#sylvthetic art#traditional art#pencil#index card#storyboard#angst#comic#hand drawn
