and i draw parallels solely on the cinematographic basis of “when my man is no more than a millimeter away from perturbation at all times but you give the Whole Right Half Of The Screen 3/4 Closeup of Harrowing Recontextualizations” like that’s right. we’re living it up
#i mean i guess it counts lol. said generally similar cinematographic approachs for said very generally similar scenarios#(a) when a guy shows his hand (shit) & the Team Experience is in shambles & you're two sec away from shooting him for real....#nemik not even being around for said ''oh so this guy is like that then apparently'' but Insisting on giving cassian his manifesto when we#all knew like oh f you're gonna get it lol. unsurprised but not unmoved that nemik's manifesto is the source of that Quoteth....#paraphrasing closely from memory the frontier of the rebellion is everywhere even the smallest act of insurrection pushes our lines forward#the imperial need for control is so desperate b/c it is so unnatural tyranny requires constant effort it breaks it leaks....#(b) when against all odds you busted out of island forever factory labor electric containment torture execution jail and made it to a phone#make a risky call home to relay to your mom that you're alive and all only to be informed that she is not#and both still like serving as [major turning points] naturally. end of ep six; end of ep eleven of twelve....#love some drama. even on top of ''oh we knew you'd die but now we know you're dying'' and then like escalation on escalation like umm what's#our bestie here talking about. oh i see. oh he's getting quickdraw blown away right on really at this point; makes sense in this position;#still what a surprise lol truly....that we Aren't surprised maarva dies not only b/c it's heavily cued but also We find out at the ep start#like the one guy dying in prison while we Know that's coming but heaping drama on drama as the doctor tells them what happened on floor two#and we get yet more Acting Wins as andy serkis (lino?)#(nah looked it up & i spoonerized that lol. kino loy. i Only Just Now have one name per each of that heist team down i think lol) so anyways#andy kino loy serkis is getting to be the king of Harrowing Recontextualizations in that moment. ugh just great shit going on throughout#there was a Lot of great [i'm perturbed to harrowed] acting all across the board. its being by and large a cast of characters who are all#like wary and continually endangered with varying degrees of urgency. like the rec abt this series as [tfw depiction of police state life]#star wars ///#andor#truly cassian my [he has the face of a friend] cassian#he really does have this key energy of like your insta new best friend and comrade....nemik's delivery w/''i wrote abt you last night.'' Fun#again like also unsurprising he'd already land on cassian out here like ofc i'll give my crucial legacy work to that guy who just showed up.#and And I Insistingly....and he's right

"Heard you can control magnetism and I can't help but wonder how that works exactly. I mean technically all matter is magnetic, some more than others, but you catch my drift." Undeterred the brunet genius carries on. "So are you creating your own magnetic field then and can manipulate how electrons interact with each other or are you limited to the usual type of ferromagnetism? If it's the latter, do you need a certain percentage of, lets say iron, in a material so your powers have an effect on them? Or does it not matter?
To say that Tony thought about this a lot would be an understatement.
[Feel free to ignore this if you want, he's just been curious and wants to know everything about Kids powers >:) ]
          【 UNPROMPTED ASK. 】                      @ravarui 【 Tony 】
Tumblr media
It's not often someone takes the time to inquire about the mechanics of his devil fruit ability, and it's even less often that he answers them sincerely. On occasion his nakama have tempted him with the question, though more often than not, the individual asking hasn't been expecting a sincere explanation and they tended to give up trying to make sense of him halfway through. Kid remains notoriously terrible at explaining things. He works on visuals and feelings, and has a tendency to leave out important details; he gets irritable when people don't already know the basic principals he's relying on and he has to go back and explain things further. Most commonly, anyone who investigates how his abilities function will get a clipped answer something along the lines of ❛ Because I ate a rotten fruit, now quit worryin' about it. ❜ Over time, similarly to a father who does not have the energy to explain complicated subjects to their infant child, he started to give up on trying to go into graphic detail of how he was able to control magnetic properties, and tends to not even bother.
This time, it is not his loyal friends asking him at all. It is a total stranger, no less, and his paranoia of what consequences may occur if he provides untrustworthy people with too much information is rearing its ugly head. He doesn't know this guy, so why should he hand out all his secrets to him for him to use as his pleases? Why should he give him an opportunity to use his honesty against him? Distributing free instruction manuals for his devil fruit powers to anybody who asks is a horrible idea, and this particular man in question doesn't exactly strike him as someone stupid enough to find this information utterly useless. He's composed, well kept, displaying a degree of quiet confidence that doesn't need to be boldly stated. Kid can read his intelligence in the way his eyes move — focused, attentive, but yet somehow simultaneously distracted, as if he's juggling multiple thoughts and ideas whilst still effortlessly managing to carry their conversation. He reminds Kid of the people who have the ability to both read a book and speak to others at the same time, without one action compromising the other. People like him put him on guard. The ones who didn't need to demonstrate their intelligence were generally the most dangerous.
Maybe he was an undercover marine? His clothes didn't match, but that didn't prove his innocence. His well-groomed appearance seemed like something a marine would want to don, anyway. He should dismiss the question and tell him to fuck right off and leave him alone. None of his business, was it?
          ...Still.
He seems to know what he's talking about. At least, more than the last person who tried to make sense of Kid's powers. He wondered how much he could even really do with the most basic walkthrough of how his magnetism functioned. Understanding a concept didn't necessarily make that information particularly helpful, after all.
Besides. Something about this man was intriguing to Kid. He could sense something he couldn't name; a very particular energy that he can't pin down. At the very least, he detected no active hostility from him. Kid considered himself to be fairly good at reading people when he wanted to — this is partially due to honing his haki to be especially sensitive to the auras surrounding a person and recognizing how to detect any malice in their intentions, but additionally, it was also simply a learned behavior that stemmed from having a dear friend who could not regularly show his face. He learned to understand body language in order to adapt for his sake. Movements. Tone of voice. Choice of wording. This man was not giving off obvious signals of being an enemy, at least for now.
Kid watches him for a long time. He sucks his teeth, making an audible clicking sound with his tongue when he releases them. He's trying to decide if it's worth it or not.
Well, maybe an incredibly vague rundown of his powers wouldn't be the worst thing. He could leave out anything that might be readily used against him, and he could stop if the stranger started probing for more than he was willing to offer. Even if Kid didn't trust him, he did pique his curiosity.
Tumblr media
❝ Ya answered yer own question. 'S like ya said — everything is kinda magnetic; just not always enough to do a whole lot with. ❞
There's a slight pause here as he shifts on his seat, leaning his right elbow to rest against his knee. He deeply exhales as he moves, in a way one might expect from a much older gentleman, rather than a healthy young man in his early twenties.
❝ Ya know all about atoms, don't ya? I ain't gonna explain that shit if ya don't. ❞
He should, since he already brought up electrons. This isn't necessarily a subtle insult. Multiple members of his crew had a limited understanding of basic scientific principals due to their upbringing and home environment. It wasn't unusual for his question to be answered 'no', and at which point, Kid was quick to lose interest in continuing the conversation. Trying to tell someone that there are tiny little specs smaller than dust that made up everything in the universe sounded like the nonsensical ramblings of a madman. The only reason he even knew about the existence of atoms to begin with was because Old Man Ketil had taken the time to tutor him, even if he hadn't been particularly happy about it at the time.
The stranger doesn't stop him, so Kid continues.
❝ Atoms have their own force fields, right? They got their core — their nucleus, protons, neutrons — then ya got the space around them, these little... loops, I guess. Yer electrons spin and orbit and make these electrical rings that circle them. When they move in the same direction, that's their magnetic field, right? This charge that goes all around the core. ❞
He can already feel himself struggling to tell what areas should elaborate on, and what he should skim over. He wonders how long it will take for the stranger to give up trying to follow.
❝ It ain't like I can see atoms or some shit; that's not what my fruit does. But I don't need to, 'cause I can feel those loops. See, the Jiki Jiki no Mi, it gives that magnetic charge a physicality. It makes it tangible. Makes ya more aware of it being there. So every one of those loops stops being this force ya can't touch, and instead it's like, they're all made of strands of thread, or silk or somethin'.      Ya try to touch one strand of silk, it's just gonna break. Ya can't move anythin' with one strand of silk. But when ya get a fuck ton of those strands all together, and ya grab them all at once.... ❞
To demonstrate, he makes a tight fist with his right hand. In conjunction, an empty, partially crushed beer can that he had earlier discarded on the ground then begins to levitate, moving closer towards him and hovering just inches below his enclosed palm; it deliberately swings, almost as if he's trying to make it resemble a yoyo on an invisible string.
Tumblr media
❝ — That's how ya make rope. Then ya just gotta tug that rope in the right direction. Ya gotta decide if ya want to attract or repel, and it's like contractin' the muscles in yer arm. ❞
He squeezes his fist closer towards his bicept at this, tensing the muscle fibers below his skin. But then, he slackens, and releases his fist entirely, letting the can immediately succumb to gravity and fall to the ground with a tinny clang.
❝ Anyway, that's why it ain't easy to, say, control blood through the iron cells. The iron is too diluted; not enough to grab onto. Doesn't do shit. ❞
The average human being has approximately around four grams of iron in their body, though the exact quantity depends on a large number of variables. When that's dispersed, there isn't a whole lot of force to be created from moving those individual iron molecules. What created significantly more force than moving those four grams of iron was Kid's fist, punching them in the gut at full strength and rupturing their spleen. However, that didn't mean he wasn't capable of magnetizing the human body at all; since his devil fruit's awakening, he has since acquired the ability to do just that.
❝ — But if ya can give tangible loops to any atom, ya can start makin' the whole person into one huge magnet, and ya don't have to worry about findin' the right cells to single out. Ya just start screwin' with the electrons to stitch stronger loops to all the atoms, even if they're usually too weak to do anythin' with. ❞
The problem with that was the energy expenditure required to create a significant magnetic field for almost every individual atom that made up a human person, as well as the concentration it took. It was a work in progress, and admittedly, even just being able to do it for a short amount of time was impressive enough; but this skill is still in its primitive stages, and requires significant work before it is honed to its fullest potential. He still has yet to master isolating oxygen atoms in order to repel them from a person's body and suffocate them, for example. When it came to ambitious desires, Kid always preferred to go big. He longs for the day that he can control the entire world through its geomagnetic field. He impatiently waits for the day that he can hold the entire Earth hostage, if such a thing were possible. He has visions of controlling the tides of the seas through the movements of the moon, and the ground would split apart at his will, because the stranger was right — magnetism is potentially present in all things, if he is only able to utilize it, manipulate it, and create that which he needed in order to control anything he desired. Playing God has nothing to do with it; he just enjoys tearing things apart for the sake of seeing how they work.
This is an awful lot of time spent on conversing with someone he doesn't even know. He doesn't feel particularly compelled to elaborate in too much more detail beyond this, though the explanation is certainly missing some key elements. Manipulating the shape of magnetic materials was more complicated than simply moving an object around in the air, and involved more focused work on pinpointing individual areas and applying force to alter the structure of the metal, as if he were playing cat's cradle. Altering the patterns of electrons and changing the relationship between north and south poles were other topics that he didn't need to bother with right now. Whatever. He got his answer. Maybe's Kid would give him a few crumbs more if he bought him another beer or something. Dinner, maybe. Was he even listening? If he wasted all that time yapping to this guy and he wasn't even paying attention, Kid might just shoot him in the head out out of sheer annoyance.
❝ Ya get all that shit, Buttercup? ❞

Sitting in their lap while they’re not paying attention - w/ Law, Luffy, & Kid
Tumblr media
Content: Gender neutral reader
Notes* Thinking about doing a NSFW part of this.. perhaps..
Part 1 2 3 4
Law
Sure, he’s not paying attention at the moment. But years of dealing with Penguin and Shachi’s antics have made him hyper aware to anyone’s bullshittery
Usually, as soon as anyone would start to inch towards him, he’d look up from whatever he was doing and warn the person to knock off whatever they were planning and pay attention
But this time, the combination of being exhausted from more lack of sleep than usual and being so passionate about the subject matter he was trying to relay to you, you managed to pull it off
Slowly, you inched towards him as he rambled on, lowered yourself into his lap, and he didn’t even flinch. All he did was move the research paper he was reading off of so he could still see it
You were seated comfortably, sideways across his lap, one arm around his shoulders to keep you steady. Success.
His free hand rests on your back as he continues. He doesn’t notice for a few seconds more, until he glances towards you for a moment
He freezes. His words cut off, and he starts to quickly go red
“What the hell do you think you’re doing?”
You don’t see him complaining, though
He demands for you to get off of him and quite messing around, but he won’t make a move to push you off. Nor do you feel his hand move off of your back
You tell him to go on, that you’re still listening
He’s too tired to fight with you and, truthfully, he wants to call you on your bluff
So he continues to explain his medical research to you, stopping every now and then to quiz you and ask you something about what he’d just read, or about your own theories
It’s actually a very insightful conversation, and he’s kind of pissed about it
Why do you focus better when you’re being a menace?
Once he’s through though, he does start to gently shove you off
“Alright, get out. I have things to do.”
As soon as you’re gone he leans back and lets out a hefty sigh
You’ll kill him with your antics one day
Luffy
Don’t try it during a meal. Yeah, it’s one of the only times this ball of energy is seated and not bouncing around, but he will shove you away and continue stuffing his face
Best time to try this is when he’s settling down for the day, about to head off to bed
Especially because he’s even more cuddly than usual when he’s ready to sleep
He’ll be hanging out in the boy’s cabin when you enter, they’re all chatting and laughing about something from the last island they stopped at, and the only person that really pays attention when you head straight for Luffy’s lap is Zoro, because nothing gets past him
Sanji doesn’t notice until you’re already in his lap, and he cooes at you to come sit in his lap instead
“What? No! They chose me! Get your own person!”
Luffy’s arms extend and wrap around you a couple times, effectively trapping you there with him, no way to move your arms or anything lower than your shoulders. Not that you mind, of course
Luffy’s always been extra affectionate, whether his intention be platonically or romantically. Hugging, kissing people’s cheeks, holding hands, the works
He pulls you right up to his chest and continues the conversation, your face comfortably resting on him
You can feel the vibration of his chest when he laughs
He’s warm. It’s comforting
If you thought this was a short-term deal, you’d be wrong. He doesn’t want to let you go now that he has your comfort, and you’ll stay in his arms well into the night
At least he pulls up a blanket when he notices you starting to fall asleep
“Aw, already dozing off? But we were having so much fun!”
He doesn’t try to keep you awake, though. You fall asleep against his chest, and sleep peacefully into morning
Kid
There are only two ways you’re going to be able to do this
Either he is truly distracted, or you think he’s distracted and he notices, but he’s just amused to watch you do it
In the first scenario, he would be at his workstation, fixing up his arm. Making some adjustments after noticing that it’s getting a bit loose in places
As long as everything is going the way he needs it to- fixing something is difficult with one arm -he’ll be calm enough not to completely toss you for trying to distract him
Keep talking to him and he won’t notice. He can only focus on so much
You let him know that you brought him a snack and something to drink, and he grunts in response. Good, he’s got all his attention in one spot
You put the plate and the cup down somewhere that Kid will be able to reach it but not knock it over accidentally, and quickly slide into his lap while going off about some updates on what the crew is up to in his absence
He shifts where he needs to so he can keep working without you in the way, which ends up with you facing him, gripping his shoulders to keep you steady
The minute you have nothing more to say, he very suddenly starts to shout
“The hell do ya think you’re doing, idiot!?”
Hop off and run for your life, because he tosses his whole arm your way while blushing as bright as his hair
On the other hand, if you crawl into his lap while and he notices, he won’t speak a word but he’ll watch your every move
You think you’ve gotten away with it
You ramble on and on about whatever comes to mind, but short by a pair of large hands around your waist and his breath tickling your neck
You stumble over your words, blush rising to your cheeks
“Go on, you wanted my attention, right? I’m listening.”
He makes it a tradition that you have to come sit in his lap for your daily reports. he loves seeing your flustered face as you try to remember all the information you needed to tell him, directly to his stupid, smug face

Would you feel comfortable writing for Kid? If so, could I request him falling for fem reader that's the total opposite of him? She's more on the quiet side and doesn't really speak first until someone comes and talks to her. Doesn't have a lot of confidence, but is friendly, just a little awkward.
DESCRIPTION: You’re his opposite
WARNINGS: nothing, just fluff
CHARACTERS: Kid
WORDS: 1,056
A/N: Thank you for this request and sorry it took so long to do this one. I hope it was worth the wait and I hope I got the vibe for the story that you were looking for.

If anyone were to look at the entire crew of the Kid Pirates it would be clear that you’re the odd one out. While they’re a bunch of loud misfits in their own way, to an outsider it would seem as though you got lost and found yourself caught in their crosshairs. There’ve even been cases when some people have assumed you were kidnapped by the Kid Pirates. However nothing could be further from the truth, you’re a key part of the crew despite your differing personality compared to the others. While it doesn’t make sense to outsiders for you be there, to the crew you love it makes sense to them and you. You didn’t need to be as loud as them, you didn’t need to be as quick to blowing a fuse and getting into a fight as them, you didn’t need to have the outward confidence and intimidating aura they had. You were you and none of them would change that. Kid especially.
Kid couldn’t help but be drawn to you from the very first time he saw you on your home island. While you’d been helping out in the local bar he noticed you straight away, watching you work silently and diligently to serve the other patrons. It was clear you were shy but being shy doesn’t mean you are weak or a pushover, as one patron quickly found out. When they tried to push their luck with you, you dealt with them swiftly and just as fiercely as anyone on his crew could. Kid’s interest in you only grew then as he watched you single handedly put the drunk in his place and then went straight back to your work as though nothing had happened.
It was that moment there that Kid wanted you on his crew. Over the course of that night he’d asked you to join the Kid Pirates. At first you ignored his offer with a simple ‘no thanks’ believing it to be a joke but as the night wore on and his request was just as earnest as the first time, you began to consider it. The morning he left the island he was smug to see you walk towards the ship. ‘Knew you couldn’t resist my charms.” He’d joked as you wordlessly climbed aboard.
Ever since then it was beginning to dawn on Kid that it was he who couldn’t resist you. While he was everything harsh and sharp and short-tempered, you were soft, warm and patient. Having your calm manner amongst them helped assess situations and served as an anchor for the crew when they were getting too worked up. You were able to talk freely to him and the crew but still you usually waited for them to engage you first, always speaking kindly and listening intently to their words. Kid found he could talk to you about anything and everything, mostly in part to just be around you and talk but also to just allow himself to indulge in the way you looked at him with undivided attention and small, encouraging smile curving your lips.
Kid knew he’d fallen for you and the crew knew it too and they all collectively agreed that until he actually confessed to you or acted on his feelings they were going to tease the hell out of him and use the information to their advantage. On days he was in a bad mood, they would ask you to go and relay any further bad news to him, smirking at the sound of his yell choking in his throat when he realised it was you coming into his workshop to tell him. Almost every meal they would coincidentally leave the seat next to Kid’s free for you to sit in. When they docked on a new island,  most of the time they made sure you and their fearless Captain were paired together, but when it was a group of them, the others would clumsily get lost so it would leave just the two of you for a couple hours to explore or shop for supplies.
One afternoon while you were helping Kid in the workshop, and by helping it just meant you were both sitting in comfortable silence while Kid worked on. Idly you toyed with a screwdriver in your hand and you observed your Captain quietly. Kid knew you long enough to know when you were just merely staring in his direction or if you were actually looking his way because you wanted to talk to him about something. “What’s up?”
“I’m curious…” you began carefully deciding on how you wanted to phrase things. “Why do you let the crew tease you the way they do?”
“Tease me how?” Kid asked, his eyes still trained on the mechanism in front of him.
“You know how. With me.” You glanced up from the screwdriver you were still fidgeting with to meet his gaze, his attention now fully on you. Your lips twitched slightly to see his expression. He looked apprehensive, cautious of your reaction. “They aren’t exactly subtle, Kid and their covert planning on how they can get the two of us alone isn’t ever whispered.”
“Are you mad?” He asked, he also feared asking if it made you uncomfortable but he knew you’d never let them force you to do anything that would cause you discomfort or anxiety.
“Mad for getting to spend time with you without the others hanging around?” You asked softly, returning your stare to the tool in your hands. “Can’t get mad at something I like doing, can I?”
Kid watched you with a slowly growing grin, even with how shy you were, you’d somehow managed to admit something he’d been too scared to face first. Quickly he activated his Devil Fruit power and commanding the screwdriver in your hand he coaxed it towards him, causing you to be pulled along in your seat until you were pressed beside him, the perfect fit he thought. Kid stared down at you and smirked when you slowly look up and offered him a sweet smile of your own. He took the screwdriver out of your hands and slipped his hand into your loose, gentle grip. It looked like the rest of the crew would have to find something else to entertain themselves with now.

I mean start to finish, I've been giggling like an idiot the entire mfing TIME
Well, alternating between giggling like an idiot and snickering deviously like a witch huddled over a cauldron but that's neither here nor there
Of course we have banter between Garp's dippy ass and Bogard's far more poised and reasonable demeanor, but also
BUT ALSO—
No
i cannot
I can't spoil it I cannot I will not I must not I shan't it would be positively rude in all honesty i will not—

Brief summary of The Story So Far: Your mission, as a Marine and Zoan type devil fruit user (gray parrot), is to gather intel on Dracule Mihawk, a pirate on the Grand Line who has become a thorn in the Marines' side over a relatively short period of time. Your first recon mission, while more or less a success, left you wounded and your commanding officers more divided than ever over the operation at hand. You have since arrived at Marineford to complete your training for the mission, and gods only know where things might go from here....

It was agreed upon by all parties involved that not a word would be spoken of your ill-advised “test” at Kuraigana Island to anyone but Fleet Admiral Sengoku. The brunt of the chastisement fell upon Garp and Bogard, as the commanding officers overseeing the mission; and while you were scolded yourself for getting far closer than your orders had suggested you should, you were still commended for providing valuable new information.
The Marines were now aware that Kuraigana Island was home to a population of large primates, of undetermined size or intelligence but with enough intellect to use basic weaponry.
The Marines were also now aware that the presence of Dracule “Hawk-Eye” Mihawk on the otherwise abandoned island was confirmed, and that the volatile pirate had most likely set up at least a temporary base amid the desolate castle ruins.
You were permitted to keep in contact with your mother over the following months of your training as promised, with the stipulation that your letters would be screened to ensure you didn’t relay any confidential information to outside parties. As such, you wrote your final letter aboard a small unmarked vessel bound to pass by Kuraigana Island perhaps four months after the first, and had handed it over to Bogard to scan over.
Hi, Mom!
I’m still doing great, I promise. Training has been exhausting but I’ve learned a lot, and it’s been a breath of fresh air to be among people that actually seem to like me. My commanding officers are a little annoying, but I guess they’re okay. I trust them.
This will be the last letter for a while since I’m being deployed. You don’t have to worry, it’s nothing serious and I’ll be fine, I just won’t be somewhere that I can receive any mail. You can still write me though, and I’ll be able to reply the second I get back to my base. I don’t know exactly how long that will be, but the tentative estimate is two months. It could be sooner, but it could be a little longer.
Love you, and give my love to all our feathery friends.
“Ten minutes out,” said Garp, sitting against the railing with a doughnut hanging out of his mouth as he finished filling out the remainder of the paperwork he had put off until the very last minute.
“‘Commanding officers are a little annoying, but I guess they’re okay,’” Bogard read aloud, lowering your letter to glance down at you with a wry look.
“She’s not wrong, you’re pretty damned irritating,” said Garp. Bogard lowered his eyes to the vice admiral sitting on the deck of the ship, lifting an eyebrow.
Garp only raised his doughnut with a nod and took another bite before returning to his report. Bogard huffed out a sigh and folded the letter, turning his gaze to you as you paced back and forth across the small deck. The vessel was little more than a sloop, designed for no more than one or two people to sail on their own, sturdy enough to withstand the unpredictable weather patterns of the Grand Line but far less advanced than the standard Marine vessel. You barely noticed his gaze upon you, staring down at your feet as you paced, counting the nails in the deck boards in a futile attempt to keep your mind clear from the quickly approaching start of your mission.
You stopped in your tracks the moment Bogard cleared his throat to get your attention, lifting your head sharply and standing at attention.
“A…at ease,” he said slowly, watching you shuffle your feet and fold your hands behind your back. “Your letter will be sent once Garp and myself return to Marineford,” he assured you. “Once you have left this ship, your own contact with the Marines will cease for a period of no less than two months, unless you are forced to make emergency contact. Emergecy contact will only be employed—”
“Under the circumstance that my own life is in immediate and unquestionable danger,” you responded immediately, to which Bogard gave a curt nod.
“Correct,” he agreed. “There will be a covert Marine presence at every island neighboring Kuraigana. Should you require rescue, the closest vessel will be able to arrive within twenty-four hours.”
“She won’t need it,” Garp chimed in through the last bite of his doughnut, and in a rare break of his iron composure, Bogard reached into one of his overcoat pockets and threw a pen at him in response. You watched as Garp caught it and used the implement to sign his name at the bottom of his paperwork before flicking it across the deck of the ship. “Have a little faith, Bogard. We have at our disposal a trained weapon of subterfuge.”
Garp wrapped his hand around the railing behind him and pulled himself to his feet, strolling over to your side and clapping you on the shoulder.
“Trained under our own supervision,” he went on proudly, while Bogard closed his eyes and heaved a slow, impatient sigh, waiting for him to go on. “Who has already provided us with more up-to-date information on the target than anyone else in our ranks—”
“—I’m still not saying your impulsive little test was anything but idiotic—”
“—and humbly declined to take credit for any of it,” Garp went on , ignoring his partner. You jolted as he gave you a sharp pat on the back. “She’ll be just fine. Won’t ya, kid?”
“I’ll—perform my duties as expected of…” You trailed off into a sigh yourself when Garp rolled his eyes. “Yeah,” you said stiffly. “I’ll be fine.”
“See? She’ll be fine.”
Garp gave a firm nod, as if your word was more than enough to affirm your fate as solid fact.
And then his brow furrowed as he stared across the deck.
His eyes narrowed into a squint, and he turned his head the slightest bit, his hand lowering from your shoulder and back to his side,
“No…that’s not…”
By the time Bogard turned his head, Garp was already striding across the deck, extending a spyglass as he leaned over the railing and stared through the scope. He gave a growl of annoyance as he held the scope out behind him for Bogard to take. Your heart raced as you slowly crossed the deck to join them, your already thin resolve faltering when Bogard slowly lowered the scope to glance at Garp.
“This changes—”
“It changes nothing,” said Garp, jerking his head to look at Bogard.
You didn’t need the spyglass to see the foggy haze around Kuraigana Island past the railing, no more than you needed it to see the small ship docked near its southern banks. You couldn’t make out much about it, but you could see the one thing that mattered—it flew a black flag.
“Red-Hair,” said Garp. “I knew he’d be trouble. I told Sengoku, I told him—”
“Why the hell would he be here?” Bogard said slowly, looking back out toward the island. He glanced behind him, and held out the spyglass for you to take. You moved to the railing between them, holding it to one eye and shutting the other to look through it at the distant ship. “There’s no chance any information has—”
“No, there isn’t,” agreed Garp, as your vision adjusted against the magnification of the lenses. You scanned over the small ship, which appeared to be empty, before lifting your head to focus on its flag—a jolly roger, decorated with a pair of crossed cutlasses and a skull with three slashes across one eye.
“Red-Haired Shanks…?” you said slowly, lowering the scope, glancing between Garp and Bogard as they stared out at the ship. “Ah—three hundred million, two hundred sixty-two thousand berry bounty.”
“Sixty-three,” corrected Bogard absently, glancing at Garp. Garp remained focused, his eyes narrowed as he stared at the ship, his grip tight around the deck railing. “Vice-Admiral.” He glanced over sharply when Bogard spoke up. “This does change—”
“It changes nothing,” Garp growled firmly.
You didn’t particularly like the way Bogard leaned over the railing, holding his hat in place as he shook his head, staring at Garp with no small degree of trepidation. Your eyes shifted to Garp when he turned around to face you, frowning down at you thoughtfully,
“Or it could change things for the better,” he said slowly, letting out a small chuckle. “Well, lass. This is your call. Seems more than just Mihawk might be docked at the island ahead of us.” You nodded shortly to show you were following, waiting for him to continued. “Not much is known about Shanks as yet…to the masses.”
“Garp—”
Garp held up a hand when Bogard tossed a warning look at him.
“—but I have on good authority that he trained under Gold Roger himself.” Your eyes widened, flickering back toward the ship in question, as Bogard let out a growl of annoyance and stormed back toward the opposite side of the deck. “This is an unexpected turn.” Your gaze shot back toward Garp as he straightened out, folding his hands behind his back and staring down at you. “We can head back toward Marineford and go through all the meticulous to-do’s of officially changing our plans, spend a few more months buried in paperwork, or—”
“I’m going.” He raised his eyebrows, his lips already twitching toward a smile at the firmness of your words. “The Red-Hair pirates would be no more aware of who I am than Mihawk. There’s no point wasting any more time.”
“No, I guess there isn’t,” he agreed, grinning. He cleared his throat, cupping a hand around his mouth and making a show of calling across the small expanse of the deck to Bogard. “You might just be able to gather us a little more intel than we expeced. Hear that, Bogard? No need to delay!”
“No need to pull a muscle patting yourself on the back, either,” Bogard grumbled, just loud enough to ensure Garp heard him.
“Alright, kid,” said Garp, happily ignoring him as he leaned against the side of the railing. “We’ve got under ten minutes, so here’s the rundown.” He turned his head, looking out toward the ship moored just off the edge of the island. “Shanks, as I said. Captain, pupil of Gold Roger himself. Primary weapon is a sabre. Straw hat, bright red hair, difficult to miss. There’s Yasopp, the first man to join his crew, at the time he was regarded as the sharpest shooter in the East Blue. Dark skin, dreadlocks, carries a pair of flintlock pistols.”
“So...that’s his first mate?”
“No.” Your brow furrowed. “That would be Beckman. Dark hair, ponytail, built like a brick shithouse. Carries a flintlock rifle. He’s a damn good shot himself but he’ll use the thing as a club in close quarters. Lucky Roux, the cook, bastard’s probably as wide as he is tall…”
You listened closely to Garp’s continued colorful descriptions of the crew officers of the Red Hair Pirates—and the potential dangers they could pose to your health should anyone discover what you really were.
“Red Hair isn’t the brightest match in the box,” he went on, “but there’s a great deal of evidence that he closely rivals Dracule Mihawk in swordsmanship. Should the two end up fighting, you keep your distance. Otherwise, be exceedingly careful around Benn Beckman. He’s the idiot’s first mate for a reason and probably accounts for ninety percent of the collective brain cells of the entire crew. You’ll have to keep a close eye on him while you keep up your act. There’s no telling why they’re docked here, and it would be in your best interest to figure it out. If they’re going to be around for a while, keep your distance.”
“I...sort of doubt any of them are ornithology experts,” you said, frowning.
“As much as one might doubt that a species of unknown primates could learn to use relatively modern weaponry.” You turned your head sharply at the sound of Bogard’s voice close behind you—you hadn’t heard him cross the deck. Your frown deepened as he gave a pointed glance at the scar spanning nearly the entire length of your right upper arm. Garp, gestured to the other Marine pointedly at his statement, and you couldn’t deny that he had a point either. “You’ll keep your distance. Fooling one pirate alone is going to be a great deal easier and safer than attempting to fool an entire crew of them.” He turned his head to Garp. “This is still the most ridiculous mission I’ve ever had the displeasure of being involved in.”
“Ah, girl’s got her act down fine,” he said dismissively—and Garp wasn’t wrong about that. Your favorite part of your training by far had been simply flying around the massive base at Marineford, taking tally of how many of the staff and officers you could fool. The only individuals privy to the exact nature of your mission were Garp and Bogard, a small selection of admirals and vice admirals, and Fleet Admiral Sengoku himself. Your performance had been enough to levy a unanimous vote to go forth with the mission. “Your persona, cadet?”
“Gray parrot, previously the pet of a pirate crew that perished in battle, therefore comfortable around pirates in general,” you said. “Able to repeat a number of sounds and phrases that might be heard aboard a ship, capable of learning new phrases and words faster than most other similar species of bird. Particular disdain for Marines and may fly into a frenzy at the sight of their vessels.”
“See?” said Garp, clapping you on the back hard enough that you flinched. “I’d say we’ve got this in the bag.”
Bogard stared between the two of you for a moment, frowning, before shaking his head. “God help us all,” he muttered under his breath, lifting a hand to rub his eyes.
The final few minutes of the voyage were spent with Garp and Bogard grilling you about the small amount of information known by the Marines about Dracule Mihawk, about the quick briefing you had just received on the Red Hair pirates, about your memorization of the den den mushi numbers you were to contact in the event that your life was in immediate danger or that you found any information useful enough to wrap the operation up early. Garp gave a resolute nod as you neared your destination, around a mile and a half off the shore of Kuraigana Island, and Bogard gave a heavy sigh and a short nod in silent agreement—no matter how little he approved, you were as ready as you were going to be.
“Alright, then, cadet,” said Garp, his wide grin a direct contrast to his partner’s pessimism. “Bird mode, activate.”
“Must you call it that?” said Bogard, tossing a weary look at Garp as you gave a quick salute and immediately shrank down into your devil fruit form on the deck. You fluttered your wings enough to hop up onto the deck railing in front of them, and Bogard frowned down at you. “Best of luck,” he offered. “Should all go according to plan, we’ll see you again in no more than two months.”
He cringed the slightest bit when you raised your wing in another salute, squawking out over Garp’s snort of laughter, “Wind in your sails!”
“Yeah, yeah,” said Garp, waving you off. “Now shoo, bird. And no getting yourself killed.”
And once more, you found yourself flying out toward Kuraigana Island.
You made a high pass over the Red Hair’s ship, squinting down toward it as you soared overhead, and the cause of their mooring near the island became quickly clear—it appeared that there was work being performed on a few sizable cannonball holes on the port side of the vessel. You were surprised to see a handful of the crew on the beach near the edge of the forest, seeming to be laughing among themselves and having a grand time, the primates that had attacked you nowhere in sight. Lucky Roux was easy enough to pick out, exactly as Garp had described him—striped shirt and tinted goggles, easily as wide as he was tall, sitting against a tree and taking a bite out of what looked like an entire leg of lamb while another crewmate assisted in bandaging his arm.
Perhaps they had had a run-in with the local apes.
You took that as enough reason to remain vigilant as you flew high over the forest, scanning the treetops below for any signs of movement. It was a relief that there seemed to be none—if the Red Hair pirates had come in contact with the violent creatures, it seemed they had managed to beat them into submission. You considered how Garp had told you that no one had ever entered the island on foot and lived to tell the tale, and it sent a shiver over your spine to think that the crew might be that formidable.
The first signs of movement you witnessed came only once you neared the castle itself, and you nearly faltered in your flight.
Your target was directly below you.
Sitting on a broken piece of stone wall in the courtyard, clad in a white shirt with a ruffled collar and a pair of black pants, his hat sitting to the side next to him, his massive sword lying across his lap as he polished the handle. You slowly, cautiously circled lower, keeping a fair distance, your eyes remaining on the pirate. His mouth seemed to be fixed in a scowl, his posture tense.
You cautiously landed in one of the castle windows several feet away, side-stepping until you were perched in the very corner of the indentation, your gray plumage a perfect camouflage against the rugged stone, and the reason for Mihawk’s clear irritation became immediately evident as the sound of a nonchalant voice tore your gaze away from him.
“Nice place you’ve got here, Hawk-Eye.”
Shanks.
Garp’s description had once again been right on the money—his stringy scarlet hair was capped by a straw-hat, his hands tucked behind his neck as he paced across a pile of rubble that might have once been a wall, a long sabre tucked into his red cloth belt at his right hip. He hopped down to the ground as you watched, resting his elbow on the hilt of the sword as he stared up at the castle. “Be a shame if something happened to it.”
He reached over with his left hand, wrapping it around the handle of the sword, and you tensed immediately, prepared to take flight as he grinned and glanced over at Mihawk.
“Divi—”
Mihawk was on his feet in a flash, his sword extended out at arm’s length, the blade less than an inch away from Shanks’s neck, his sharp yellow eyes narrowing to threatening slits as Shanks lifted his hands up in mock-surrender, still grinning.
“Only kidding,” he said, taking a cautious step back from the edge of the black blade.
Mihawk eyed him with a venomous glare for a few seconds longer before pulling his blade back swiftly to his side and rolling his eyes, a growl of annoyance leaving him as he turned on his heel and stormed back over to the broken wall, sitting down once more. “Remind me of what the hell you’re doing here and precisely why you haven’t left yet?”
“Am I not allowed to visit my friends?” said Shanks, clutching at his chest dramatically in feigned offense. Mihawk ignored the redhead as he sat down heavily on the ground, grabbing a bottle of dark liquor propped up against the pile of rubble and working the cork loose. “Hey, it’s not my fault. This is where the Log pose pointed us. We needed to do a few repairs on the ship. Noticed your old rowboat moored nearby—”
“Rowboat,” Mihawk repeated under his breath, one of his eyes twitching the slightest bit.
“So what’s with the pissed off monkeys, anyway?” said Shanks, nodding toward the forest before taking a swig from the bottle and flicking the cork over his shoulder. “Few of them were damn near as good with a sword as you are.” Mihawk’s eyes shot toward him in a warning glare, and rolled away when Shanks gave a broad grin in response. “Train them yourself?”
“No,” he said shortly. “The humandrills were already quite capable with a variety of weapons when I arrived—”
“Aww, you named them?”
“I discovered the name among the historical documents in castle,” he said through his teeth. “It seems they learned to use weapons by watching their human neighbors before they managed to wipe themselves out. Perhaps,” he went on, before Shanks could speak up again, “your time would better be served overseeing the repairs on your ship so you can leave the moment they’re done.”
“Oh, the repairs are almost finished,” said Shanks, waving a dismissive hand. “Just waiting for the log pose to finish linking up.” He took a sip from his bottle, lifting his eyebrows. “Why? Aren’t you enjoying the company?”
“Oh, yes, immensely,” Mihawk responded dryly.
Your eyes darted between the pair of pirates amid their exchange, keeping yourself perfectly still in the stone windowsill. It was clear that Shanks, at least, was enjoying himself, and that they seemed to have some sort of history between them. It was equally clear that Mihawk would have very much preferred that his company take a long walk off the nearest short pier. He still kept his irritation in check, though whether it was out of any actual sense of camaraderie or he simply didn’t feel like wasting his energy fighting remained unclear.
Their exchange gave you an almost overwhelming sense of déjà vu, and you made a mental note to inform Garp and Bogard of it the next time you saw them.
“Oh, so grumpy,” Shanks commented, leaning back against the rubble behind him, stretching an arm out across one of his knees. “Why don’t you go take a nap, old man? I’m sure there are plenty of beds more than suited for someone of your positively regal manner.” Mihawk went on polishing the golden handle of his sword, not bothering to glance up. “Probably more than enough beds for any number of guests—”
“No,” said Mihawk coolly, still keeping his eyes turned down toward his sword.
“Oh, come on,” Shanks groaned in complaint, laying his head back. His mouth turned down into a despondent sort of pout, tilting his head to look over at the castle—and you tensed immediately, holding your breath, remaining still as a statue. “I’ve never even been in a castle before—”
“No,” Mihawk said again, louder this time, his yellow eyes fixing on Shanks with a firm gaze this time.
“You’re absolutely no fun at all,” Shanks huffed, lifting a small piece of stone from the ground and tossing it in his direction in a half-hearted manner. “You know, you’re going to die sad and alone one day in your desolate castle.”
“And what a peaceful end it will be,” said Mihawk disinterestedly, rolling his eyes back down to the sword across his lap as he buffed a rag across the gleaming blue gem at the end of the hilt.
“But not friendless,” Shanks added, completely ignoring him. He offered another broad grin. “I’ll always be your frien—”
“Would you just go away already?” Mihawksighed wearily, lifting his head and tossing the rag aside. “It’s abundantly clear what you’re attempting to do, and it isn’t going to work.”
“Oh, and just what am I trying to do?” said Shanks...and he seemed to bite his tongue for a moment, before adding in a cheeky tone, “...friend?”
“You’re fishing for a fight,” said Mihawk, gritting his teeth, briefly gripping the handle of his sword before releasing it from his grasp. “And I’m not in the mood.”
“Oh come. On,” Shanks groaned once more, leaning back heavily and pouting. “I’m bored. There’s literally nothing on this damned island except a pile of rocks and a bunch of trees and a particularly nice castle—”
“No.” Shanks gave a huff of irritation, crossing his arms over his chest and glaring at Mihawk. “Go off and play with the other monkeys if you’re so damned bored.”
“They’re already afraid of me,” he huffed, pouting like a child. He brushed a few unruly strands of hair away from his eyes, turning his gaze out toward the forest. “Stupid apes.” Mihawk only rolled his eyes, shook his head, and returned to the idle task of sword maintenance. “I’m frankly surprised you didn’t just slaughter all of them the moment you set foot here.”
“They make for a decent security system,” he said levelly.
“Or you’re secretly just a big softie—”
Shanks straightened out and gave another broad grin when Mihawk tossed a sharp glare at him...and then slumped back down in defeat when his supposed “friend” gave a heavy sigh and turned his attention back to his sword.
It went on this way for some time—Shanks continually poking and prodding, attempting to annoy Mihawk enough to coax him into a fight; and Mihawk persisting in the task of sword maintenance, running a whetstone across the already razor-sharp edge of the blade as he fought to keep his composure. The entire spectacle was rather like watching an excitable puppy yip at a surly cat.
You shifted your gaze to the edge of the nearby forest when Shanks looked over, the young captain waving once the rustling of the dense leaves gave way to a tall, broad-shouldered man in a black shirt, picking leaves out of his ponytail—no doubt Benn Beckman, from the description Garp had offered you. There was indeed a large rifle slung back across one of his shoulders, a cigarette hanging from the corner of his mouth. He glanced toward Mihawk, before stopping just short of his captain, looking down at him.
“Repairs are finished and the Log Pose’s set,” he said, his brow furrowing when Shanks frowned in clear disappointment. “We getting off of this rock or are you still antagonizing the current inhabitants?”
“I am visiting with a dear old friend,” said Shanks, giving an indignant huff and crossing his arms. He rolled his eyes back over to Mihawk. “Isn’t that right, Hawkie—?”
“Call me that again and you’ll be leaving this island wearing your entrails as necklace,” said Mihawk coolly.
“See?” said Shanks, gesturing toward Mihawk. “We’re just catching up on old times.”
Beckman stared down at his captain for a long moment, frowning, his cigarette smoldering at the corner of his mouth. He finally shook his head and stepped back a couple paces, leaning back against a pile of stones and crossing his arms. “Alright,” he said. “Have fun.”
“Oh, I am,” Shanks assured him with a positively gleeful grin. He rolled his shoulders and took a drink from the bottle of liquor clenched in his hand, his eyes drifting back over to Mihawk. “Well, it seems our all too pleasant reunion may be drawing to a close, Hawkie—”
Shanks’s grin only widened when Mihawk lifted his gaze to glare at him, his hand gripping tighter around the whetstone.
Shanks seemed to bite his tongue for a moment, pursing his lips to suppress his growing amusement at Mihawk’s growing annoyance, before his expression spread back into a grin as he lifted his eyebrows.
“How about a little kiss goodbye—y’know, between friends and all—”
“That’s it—”
Mihawk was on his feet in a flash, tossing the whetstone away.
Shanks was on his feet just as quickly, a look of absolute glee brightening his features as he drew his sabre.
Beckman took a few casual steps off to the side, pulling his cigarette down from his lips to flick the ashes away, shaking his head, his hand tightening around the butt of his rifle almost imperceptibly.
And you, in spite of yourself, let out a tiny squawk of alarm at the entire spectacle...and quickly realized your mistake.
While Mihawk surged forward with his blade drawn, while Beckman kept his sharp eyes flickering between him and his captain, Shanks’s gaze flickered over toward the sound you had just let out.
And his eyes widened the slightest bit as his eyes met yours.
And he lifted his sword to block what would have been a deadly blow from Mihawk as he continued staring at you as you froze in the windowsill, your feathers ruffling out the slightest bit in response to the terror dawning over you.
Beckman also followed his captain’s gaze, lifting an eyebrow as he noticed your presence.
Shanks drew in a sharp breath, his eyes growing even wider, wide as the eyes of a child with a bottomless wallet in a candy shop. One single, almost breathless word left his lips as they spread into a delighted smile:
“Parrot.”

i dunno if you care about my gushing about leon being infected but.
god the remake made it so much hotter and i don’t see anyone talk about it and i don’t know how they don’t! i personally can’t stop thinking about it and i need infected/normal leon carnally.
:) my time to revive plagas leon has come.
(cws: gn! reader, plagas!leon + a lil yandere, post-canon divergence, needles, drugging, nc groping/kissing under the influence, leon has dirty thoughts, biting, blood, reader gets tied up)
Tumblr media
Normal Leon is flirty, playful, maybe a little bit saucy at times if the mood is right. Plagas!Leon is a complete and utter menace, and possibly the most perverse thing you've ever encountered.
At the very least, he's not a complete puppet for Saddler's machinations. He has moments of clarity here and there, but they make way for a deep, unconscionable shift in personality when his mind finally accepts that his body is no longer the same. It's difficult to deal with, you can imagine--or you could, if Leon wasn't relentlessly tracking you down and hellbent on not letting you leave the village.
Could he try to talk to you? He could, if you would listen. But every time he faces you with those piercing carmine eyes, you start backing away, and that pretty face twists in fear and disgust at what he's become. Every time you shoot at him, you try to reconcile it as putting down the monster in him and not putting down Leon. But your sweet, gentle conscience can't accept that there's no difference anymore. This is all him, good, bad, and ugly.
Oh, but you're still so cute. You're so mad at him for the way he is, you throw things at him and grab Ashley's wrist to hurry her away when he comes walking up. He was angry when you managed to slip out of his grasp despite feeling that urge to kill you rising, but when Saddler was finally taken out, Leon felt his free will return and realized he had the chance to make his own fate.
And that's why he's waited. He waited day, after day, after day for you, having had to watch you leave with Ashley and Luis in tow and replaying that scene in his mind a thousand times over. The island is gone now, but the rest of the area needs tending to. He spends his lonely days ridding the castle of pests, disposing of bodies, clearing the village away and getting rid of any remnants of Los Iluminados. They don't belong here anymore because they couldn't leave anyways, and since he can't either, he has to cull the ones who might get in the way of your arrival.
Because he knows you. He knows you're certain of his abilities, but even if there was a shadow of doubt about his survival, you won't be sleeping well wondering whether Leon is still alive. If he can be saved, or if he just needs to be put down properly. He doesn't much care where your reasoning lies, so long as you do what he's sure you will and return to the village to find closure.
It barely takes any time at all--in less than a month, you're standing at the edge of the village by a newly-repaired bridge, a local police car parked anxiously by the entrance for fear of what lies ahead. You've got your gun, a map scribbled out from memory, and his jacket over your shoulders. Adorable. You missed him.
There's really nothing to fear, but he won't let you get much further than that village. There are a few Ganados stationed there as plants to relay information to him, but aside from feeding your fury as you take them out they really don't serve much purpose. Leon can feel you here, your feet hitting the ground as you run and the breath burning your lungs as you hurry away from the mob, booking it straight for the castle gate.
How sweet of you to visit him at home. He can't help but stalk you for a bit, watching you wander about the immense palace and search for clues, flip through his notes and break down into tears when you realize he's still alive. You have so much hope, and it's all stored in that little bottle of pills and a needle filled with sedative.
It all falls away when you neglect to notice the latter missing from your belt, only to thrash and scratch wildly at his arm when he comes up from behind to restrain you. A little pinch in the neck, a choked up sigh, and you collapse so limply in his arms like a doll.
Oh, he missed you. It's so much easier to kiss you when you're unconscious, you don't run away or shove him or shout at him that he's a monster. He wants to kiss you in other places, but...not now. He can be gentle and intimate with you like that later. You barely even flinch, you don't even kick at him when he gropes your thigh and brings his mouth to it to bite down. You taste so sweet, he just wanted a bit of your blood to satisfy the craving--he won't make it a habit, that is unless it ends up turning you on when he does it in bed like he's planning to.
And he is planning. You have a future together but it doesn't include anyone else--he's been given an escape from that depressing life he never wanted, but he's not finding a new one without you, the only good thing he's got in this world. Even if he's got to tie you up so you don't attack him the moment you wake from your stupor.
"Let me go! I'll kill you!"
You don't mean that, sweet thing. You're just tired, and scared, and you missed him. That's why you came back--not a force on earth could've made him revisit the site of Raccoon City after what happened there, but you came all the way back and threw yourself into danger for him, even knowing all that you know. The rest of this ugly world isn't worthy of you.
"I'll fucking shoot your brains out for taking him away from me!"
So feisty and cute. Is he really the one that's obsessed? Because watching you cry in desperation and struggle against your bindings is pretty telling, especially since you stop the moment his cool hand touches your chin. You know what he is, and yet you still look up at him like he's the same he always was.
"L-Leon, if you're still in there, I can get you out. There's a facility in Arklay that agreed to help--you can come home!"
It's a shame you're so hopeful. You even grace him with a relieved smile when he backs off, his brow softened at the sight of you practically begging for him. But it's in that darling, naïve way that shows you have no idea you're already being dragged down with him. And you'll only see that once his hand hovers over your lap, and he gently peels back the jagged fabric you thought might've ripped on your way over a fence, or maybe in one of the many struggles against the villagers for your life.
But you understand, he thinks you do, when you finally follow his eyes and peer down at the exposed skin. The bite mark still glistens with blood and saliva from where he sucked hungrily at the wound, but webbing out beneath your skin around the site are thin, black trails that move along your flesh like veins. And they grow as the seconds pass, spreading out deeper within your body as the infection begins its process.
You look up at him so frightened, and yet so angry, that he can't help but kiss you then. You don't have unbound arms to beat at his chest, or breath in your lungs to scream or cry at him for what he's done to you. His tongue swallows all those muffled curses up, sliding wetly between your lips to taste that effervescent warmth he knows you won't lose in your transformation. You're simply too radiant to become as cold as he is, although he's sure it'll add an exciting thrill to the sensations you'll share when you let those locked desires of yours flood out of you. Who knows, you might get so enthusiastic about your newfound power that you don't let him leave the bedroom for days--Leon would certainly welcome that after all this wretched time apart.
"Just get some rest, sweetheart." He whispers barely a hair's length from your mouth, tongue flicking out to trace your bottom lip and indulge in a delightful shiver up your body. "Let Las Plagas give you strength, and I'll show you how to handle the power. And...welcome home, darling."

Recreational Food
I admired the scenery as we walked. “I’m glad we came during the dry season. Looks like there wouldn’t be much solid ground otherwise.” This wide flat area was pretty clearly the flood plains for the river just over the hillside, with several tiny plateaus where huge trees had escaped getting washed away. Everything else was dirt.
Paint spread her arms beside me, basking in the sun like the little lizardy alien she was. “I’m just glad to be outside! It’s been so long since we had a delivery on an actual planet, not to mention one that smells nice.”
It smelled like dry river mud to me, which was nice enough, but maybe those trees were extra appealing to Heatseeker senses. There was a scent of something kind of like rosemary on the breeze, now that I thought about it.
Paint was still talking. “We’re not even in a hurry today! The drop-off went fine, so we can stroll back to the ship at our own pace. This is lovely. I could stay out here all day.”
The ground rumbled. Splashes and the bleats of distressed animals sounded from the direction of the river. The rumbling got louder.
I asked, “Are you familiar with the concept of ‘jinxing it’?”
Before Paint could answer, a stampede swept over the hill toward us. Paint screamed and bolted. I ran after her, frantically searching for a plateau that was both climbable and close.
“This one!” I yelled over the noise of what had to be hundreds of alien fauna. Vaguely buffalo-shaped things without horns. I’d study them more closely when they weren’t closing in fast. Paint barely heard me, so I towed her over to the plateau and boosted her up. She wasn’t a natural climber, but she made do, scrambling to safety with me close behind. We made it out of trampling range just in time.
I clambered up and lay flat under the spreading tree while Paint hyperventilated beside me, an ocean of brown fur rolling by underneath. The rocky ground shook and the tree showered us with leaves. But the branches didn’t fall and neither did we, and eventually the herd calmed down from whatever had startled them.
The problem was, they calmed down before they finished passing our tiny island. Thundering footsteps slowed to a mooing, moaning amble, with buffalo-things surrounding us for a good distance in all directions.
My phone rang. We both twitched. Luckily the animals were loud enough to miss it. I pulled the phone from my pocket, hands vibrating with adrenaline, and answered a call from the captain.
“Are you safe?” she asked, her voice distant over the phone. “We got a report of local fauna moving unexpectedly.”
I laughed, wide-eyed while Paint tried to get her breathing under control. “Yeah, we barely made it. I’m not sure how we’re going to get back, though. They’re all around us, and I don’t like our chances if we try to just walk through.”
“Yes, don’t get too close.” I heard claws on keys as Captain Sunlight checked the local information bank. “These creatures are known to be hostile. They also treat approaching shuttles like threats, which doesn’t bode well for an air rescue.”
I tried to breathe deeply and get my heart rate back to normal. “Threats that they should attack, or run from?”
“This says they face off with shuttles, and defend whatever territory they’re occupying at the time. Attempts to chase them away have been unsuccessful, as have attempts to lead them away.”
“Yeah, that’s the worst,” I said, glancing up at the thick branches above. “Our vertical access is garbage right now anyway. We’d have a hard time getting into a shuttle.”
Paint was looking a little more calm, though worried. “Maybe they’ll wander away on their own?”
I relayed the question in case Captain Sunlight hadn’t heard it. She said, “Maybe. Let me contact the local authorities for more information. Stay safe; I’ll call you back.”
I said goodbye and put the phone away, then just lay there listening to my heartbeat and the various grunts from below. Paint sniffed audibly, no doubt appreciating the spicy tree smell. I tried to enjoy the view. The buffalo-things had heavy paws instead of hooves, and their faces were misshapen to my Earth eyes, more mooselike than anything. The thick brown fur was normal enough, though.
I was trying to think of what breed of dog it reminded me of when a cloud covered the sun.
A dark cloud. The kind that might be full of rain.
“Oh no,” I said.
“That can’t be rain,” Paint said, scrambling up. “It’s not the rainy season!”
I got to my feet, clutching a branch. “It could be rain. A flash flood might solve one of our problems, but…”
“Oh, that would be so much worse!” Paint hugged her arms close. The air hadn’t gotten that much cooler yet, but rain could be bad for a cold-blooded Heatseeker. And that was even without considering whether we’d have to swim for it.
I looked around frantically. “There’s got to be something we can do. Maybe throw a rock and scare them into stampeding away again?”
We scoured the rocky plateau, but nothing came off bigger than a fingernail, and the only things up there aside from the tree were some sparse bits of grass/moss and stray dirt. Even the tree didn’t have any small branches that looked easily snapped off; they were all thick limbs. I could probably climb out over the herd if I really needed a stick, but that did not look worth it.
I checked my pockets. “Wait, I have food. Maybe that’ll help.” We’d left right before lunch, and I’d grabbed a few portable things in case the delivery took too long. I thought hard about what kind of food these creatures might like, and how they might react to it, as I knelt and emptied my pockets onto the ground.
It was all Earth stuff from the import sector of the last space station we’d stopped at. A packet of turkey jerky. Freeze-dried strawberries. A tube of peanut butter that had thankfully not ruptured in the scramble up here. Pop Rocks.
I picked up that last one, thinking fast.
Paint was reading the label on the peanut butter. “Oh, this is the one some of your people are allergic to. I suppose it’s too much to hope these creatures are as well?”
“I have a better idea,” I said, eyeing the lowest branch. It was sturdy. There were creatures below. And they were all wet from the river. I turned to Paint. “Throwing something might startle them enough to stampede if we hit one just right, but I’ll bet that’s not as startling as the sound of sudden hissing from the back of their neck.”
“Which of your foods does that??” Paint asked.
I held up the brightly colored package. “Recreational food. They’re basically sugar crystals with tiny pockets of compressed air inside. They pop and hiss when they dissolve.”
Paint shook her head. “I’m not even going to ask why.”
“Great.” I shoved the package into a thigh pocket that I’d be able to reach easily, then hooked an arm over the branch and climbed up.
“Be careful!”
“I will,” I said as the clouds darkened further. Lying on the branch like a particularly awkward jungle cat, I scooted over the edge of the plateau. None of the creatures seemed to notice, busy as they were in nosing the dusty ground for sprouted grass, or whatever passed for it here. Good. I wanted their heads down.
When I was over a big one, I stopped and got out the pack, oh so carefully. Dropping it now could well be the kind of mistake I’d regret for a long time. I ripped open the package with care, knees clamped around the branch, as thunder rumbled closer than I’d like.
Then I gauged the angle carefully, and poured a stream of Pop Rocks directly onto the buffalo-thing’s neck.
I heard it crackle and pop as the sugar dissolved in the wet fur. Suddenly everything was panicked bellows and the thunder of feet. I clung to the branch, hoping desperately that it wasn’t about to snap off under my weight. All I could see below me was waves of brown fur.
It felt like the stampede went on for longer this time. Maybe because I didn’t have any climbing to distract me; all I could do was hold onto the branch like the most desperate of baby monkeys, and hope it held.
It held.
Finally the rumbling footsteps receded over the hill, leaving churned-up dirt below and a very grateful Paint behind me.
“You did it! It worked! Now let’s go; I think I see rain!”
She was right. I shimmied back onto solid ground to pick up the rest of my snacks, shoving them into pockets alongside the crumpled Pop Rocks package, then I helped Paint scramble down from the plateau.
Wind had picked up, blowing rain towards us in a visible wall from the west. But something silver glinted in the sky to the north, which grew swiftly into the welcome sight of a local rescue shuttle.
We ran for it. It landed on the riverbed, door open and arms waving from inside, and we dove in just before the rain hit.
“Safe!” Paint exclaimed as the door shut and a Frillian in a uniform guided her into a chair. “That was too many close calls for one day!”
I followed the directions to take my own seat as the shuttle lifted off. A different Frillian handed me a blanket, though I didn’t need it. Nice and warm, though. I asked Paint, “Ready to go back to the indoors for a while?”
She settled a heat shawl around her shoulders and sighed with relief. “I suppose so. Much less chance of getting trampled or frozen there.”
The official next to me asked, “What caused the herd to move away? We were told they had surrounded the area.”
I grinned and dug out the crumpled package. “Recreational food!” There were still a few Pop Rocks caught in one corner, so I dumped them into my mouth to demonstrate. The expressions on the rescuers’ faces were great as the candy hissed and popped on my tongue. “I poured thith down on a big one,” I explained around it.
Paint added, “It worked great! Scared them right away.”
The officials exchanged a look, then asked to see the package. I happily handed it over and explained where I’d gotten it. Paint said our courier ship would be happy to arrange a delivery of some if they wanted.
By the time we reached our ship, the local officials were ready to talk to the captain about ordering some recreational Earth food, to use for an entirely different purpose than it was made for. But that would hardly be the first time.

These are the ongoing backstory adventures of the main character from this book.
Shared early on Patreon! There’s even a free tier to get them on the same day as the rest of the world.
The sequel novel is in progress (and will include characters from these stories. I hadn’t thought all of them up when I wrote the first book, but they’re too much fun to leave out of the second).

Zhongli plays Animal Crossing - some headcanons.
★彡modern au of course, Zhongli is silly
Lending Zhongli your Animal Crossing copy was honestly one of the best decisions ever made, honestly:
“So, am I to help these animals cross the road?"
"You don't, my love."
"Then why is it titled 'Animal Crossing?'"
He's pleasantly surprised when he finds out he needs to build an island paradise for a bunch of furry friends, as he calls them. He already has a few ideas in mind, he says.
He names his island "Liyuef"... he meant to put Liyue but didn't know how to backspace.
Zhongli...dear, sweet Zhongli treats all of his villagers like real people. When he accidentally bonks one on the head with his net, he gets SO sad. "Oh, please pardon me, Sprinkle...I did not mean to...oh! I did it again. It was not my intention, I assure you, miss Sprinkle. Please do not be angry..."
He also gets sad when a villager asks to move out, but he accepts it with grace. "Who am I to deny their wishes?" he'd say, as he lets his beloved Wolfgang go.
"Zhongli, they're literally fictional..."
Gulliver is an interesting character to him. "This bird washed up on my island...he'd been drinking, no doubt. He reminds me of a certain bard." And when Gulliver gifts him something after he locates all his phone parts, Zhongli says "Ah, thank you Barbatos...I mean Gulliver."
And when Redd visits, he doesn't even need an online art guide...he knows real from fake because he's just that knowledgeable about art. That sly fox's got nothing on this old man.
Zhongli also eagerly listens to everything Blathers has to say, fascinated by all the wildlife that can be caught around the island. Sometimes at dinner he'd relay these facts to you. "Darling, today the owl friend told me that sturgeons can.."
Zhongli’s used to having other people pay for his stuff. So when he finds out he needs to pay off his loans, bridges and stairs by himself, he’s a little put off, but works hard to accumulate enough bells to pay everything off himself.
Speaking of bells…man has NO fiscal responsibility at. All. He buys out the shop and boutique on a regular basis even if he has no need for what they’re selling, simply because “Ah, but the little raccoon children have worked hard to procure these items for me, so it is only fair that I thank them, yes?”
TERRAFORMING is his absolute favourite thing to do! He likes to make random chunks of land all over Liyuef because they remind him of how he can harness Geo energy :)
And honestly, he has such an eye for design and detail. Liyuef is soon well-adorned with beautiful pathways, tastefully-placed monuments and flowers, and an artfully arranged neighbourhood, almost reminiscent of the real-life Liyue it was meant to mimic. “Darling, miss Isabelle has given my land a rating of five stars!”
Soon, Liyuef becomes a thriving paradise, and he's happy :) he thanks you for showing him the crossing of the animals <3

With the upcoming Fit lore later today, I figured it may be useful to transcribe his earlier lore drops for those of you who may not have been there, or want a refresher. These were attempts to contact the contractor to relay information, and happened before the dreams.

Fit- Hello, it's me.
Fit- Sorry I've been taking my sweet time.
Fit- I've been busy...
Fit- We need to pivot from our original plan.
Fit- I've adopted a son, and I've been caring for him.
Fit- I've grown attached to him, so he's been my priority.
Fit- Being a single dad is a challenge at times.
Fit- But it's much easier than the nomadic lifestyle.
Fit- Life here is very different from the wasteland.
Fit- But I haven't forgotten our agreement.
Fit- I will fullfil my contractual obligations.
Fit- They're still falling for the whole "vacation" thing.
Fit- I ask that you be patient though, as we have a problem.
Fit- Something called "The Federation" controls this entire island.
Fit- They've been keeping us here.
Fit- As long as they are in the way, I can't access what you are looking for.
Fit- And the anti-cheat on the island is strong.
Fit- I haven't been able to use my abilities.
Fit- The Federation must be eliminated for this to succeed.
Fit- I've gained everyone's trust and made friends...
Fit- I've been helping their fight against the Federation in order to advance our plan.
Fit- Still... It hurts me to see everyone suffering...
Fit- Some have lost things they cared about...
Fit- But this struggle is an unfortunate necessity...
Fit- The conflict is increasing the value of what you seek...
Fit- I know you're paying me...
Fit- But have you considered......

Fit- Checking in.
Fit- I am messaging you again to keep you updated on my progress.
Fit- The Federation still has full control of the island.
Fit- They've been putting on some strange election....
Fit- I'm assuming to keep everyone occupied.
Fit- However, it seems they've let a vulnerability slip.
Fit- Player data and statistics are being tracked.
Fit- The Federation must have this data stored somewhere on the island.
Fit- If I had to guess, it's likely the computer system of the Federation offices.
Fit- If I tried to break in and access the data, they would likely capture me...
Fit- It would not end well.
Fit- However, whoever wins this election will likely have open access.
Fit- Perhaps they could be persuaded... Or tricked into giving us access.
Fit- I will fullfil the contract.
Fit- And yet... I'm starting to wonder....
Fit- What are you actually trying to achieve?
Fit- Even if I can access the data, what good would it do?
Fit- I'm skeptical, but I hope to hear from you soon........

When Tieshan told Macaque of the scarf, she knew what she was doing. She may not know much of Ancient Stone Monkey culture, but she had 500 years, a mountain full of lost stories and secrets regarding the clan, and quite the incentive to learn as much as she could. After all, it could literally be the difference between life and death for Wukong and his second try at parenthood. She wasn't going to risk sowmthing as simple as a lack of knowledge from stopping her...
So somewhere on that island she came across a depiction of Stone Monkey mourning rituals, including how some monkeys would choose to bury themselves beside their mates during the Stone Egg ritual, or lacking a proper resting place, with their mate's former items so that the dao of their mate would be absorbed by their Egg. A way for their mate to live on through their child, so to speak. This means she knows what it means for Wukong to have buried himself with Macaque's scarf and continue to wear it as a waist wrap even now. And she knows Macaque and Marshall Ma knows it, too.
Pigsy asks her how she knew mentioning the scarf would get Macaque out of his funk.
Pigsy: How the hell did you know that would work!?
Tieshan: Because despite not being raised by them, Macaque is still a Stone Monkey of the Lotus-Eared variant. In their culture, to bury oneself with something covered in their mate's dao is to wish for the cub to absorb the dao and have a piece ofntheir mate pass on to the cub, if not in blood, then in spirit. We can see in Xiaotian's coloration how Wukong and Macaque's dao had mixed together to create a child that looks like both parents.
Marshall Ma: Wukong would have known about this as well, the Elder whom led us before Wukong had taken the throne of the Stone Matriarch had raised him with as much knowledge about the Stone Monkeys as he could before he passed.
Xiwangmu, interested: Stone Matriarch? I have not heard of such a being.
Marshall Ma: 'Tis the title of Wukong's predecessor, the one whom Azure claims to be Lady Sonzi's reincarnation. We know her as the Stone Matriarch of Flower Fruit Mountain. She had led our predecessor tribe before the Floods. It is said she had left an egg bearing her Heir upon the Mountain, the very same one Wukong had hatched from. It is why we made him the Monkey King once he had discovered the ancestral palace behind the Water-Curtain Cave.
Prev.
Tieshan did spend about 500 years watching the island as it's vigil, and protector. She and the Stalwarts had many times come together for meals and chats. The topic of mourning rituals came up when she expressed a comparison to Wukong's state to that of a funeral burial. The Stalwarts were quick to show her the murals inside of Water Curtain Cave, relaying the stories Elder passed on to them from his time. How the Stone Monkeys not could form a vestal child from their own Dao, but from the Dao of lost spouses - given that they buried themselves at their side or with their belongings so that the couple had a chance to produce a shared child.
Tieshan recalls how her sworn-brother's favourite scarf was last seen in Wukong's arms...
The reveal that Macaque is Xiaotian's other parent (spiritually and genetically) is enough for him to shake out of his funk - not only did Wukong still love him after all that happened, but he made an effort to ensure that his second child would be born with Macaque's life energy!
Tumblr media
I like to think that before they leave Flower Fruit Mountain; Xiwangmu and the Jade Emperor make a point of finding one of Shíhuā's shrines/statues and sitting down to just... talk. Both to each other and to their daughter (or whomever she became). They ask her if she was happy in that life. Mention how her son can be such a handful at times but they care for him still.
Guanyin witnesses this from a distance. Tears roll down their face as it hits how the two royals truly see them their kin. They weren't lying when they called Guanyin their daughter, and Wukong their grandson.

Please give some suggestions of others y/n has met on their journey in the comments. I wanna see who else people want them to befriend/meet
I plan to later on do an entire thing for marineford. Be prepared for that and more stuff about y/n’s devil fruit
Once again this is non linear. Partially cause it’s easier that way and cause y/n has lived so long that their memories are kinda jumbled/they don’t really perceive time anymore (I kinda focused on that in this)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
At some point in your eternal journey you began to write down your adventures into a small notebook
It’s leather bound with bright lettering on the front
A custom clasp in the shape of a star to keep the soft yellowed pages tight together
Sometimes you read it when out at sea with nothing to do but letting the wind guide your way to place of new and old
Before tucking it away into the pocket of Roger’s coat
Old ink of a dark navy blue stands out on the paper
Stark against the light yellow
With your feet dipped in the salty water of the place you called paradise you pull it out once more
Content in relaying over memories and people you’d once met
Let’s see who we have in store for today
Sengoku
Waking up on Marineford of all places after dying was certainly not on your list of islands you wanted to visit
An island dyed white and blue with golden accents sprinkled throughout the crowds of marines that walk through the area
The headquarters sat at the very top, loud and proud on the crescent moon shaped island
Honestly you very much contemplated just jumping into the sea to end up somewhere else
But as you stood at the very edge of the bay , leaning a bit forwards as the sapphire blue waves crash against the old stone walls
A hand grasps your shoulder
Turning around your met with the sight of a marine you had vaguely remembered Garp talking about
Sengoku, the Buddha
Your eyes trail upwards past his face to the pelican sat atop his marine hat
It stares down at you as does the marine who looks at you with concern
Especially since he sees no fear in your eyes along with contemplation
You had seriously thought about jumping into the sea all Willy nilly
It wasn’t even accounting the fact you may have a devil fruit
He quite literally drags you into the base, you don’t really complain since he gives you crackers
Similar ones to Garps favourites though a different brand
He sits you down, trying to get as much information out of you
It…isn’t successful
Your just chilling in his office, eating, looking around and giving the vaguest answers ever
Like he asks you about the island your from and you respond “a summer island a long ways from here. A place where fruit is plentiful and the corrupt hands of society do not touch” or some shit
He’s too stressed to deal with that type of shit so he doesn’t push further
Garp has been in his ass as of late along with the fact he’s worried about Rosinante
So his solution is to for now allow you to work as a delivery person for letters and documents
You actually quite enjoy it
Meanwhile this poor man is stressing over the fact that there is seemingly zero leads to any parents?
He’s just gotten somewhat unclear reports about a child on a raft drifting from island to island
Someone who reportedly has a track record of befriending the most unlikely of people
His migraines are getting worse at this point
You come to like the somewhat stern marine, oftentimes talking to him once done delivering letters and such around base
Most conversations are on ethics, morality and life
It’s odd but the way you talk about it seems as if your a weathered person who had seen more than the eye can see
Something in him leads him to feel as if your older than you looked
And then you somehow end up doing the most child-like thing and that feeling momentarily goes away
It’s weird and conflicting
But something he comes to get used to
In a lot of ways you remind him of his adoptive son
You have his smile and kindness that you extend to others even if they had sneered at you in the halls
The energy to complete a job no matter how big or small
A pension for somehow ending up in some sort of danger, though now it’s not from having two left feet
It’s from a lack of spacial awareness and not having any care for your safety
You’d think after such a long time seemingly on your own there would be some sort of fight or flight instinct
But from what he could observe there was absolutely none
It leaves him scared
He grew to care for you
See you as someone he’d take in within a heartbeat
But despite that and the offers he gives you of a home with fresh meals and someone who would care for you
You decline every time
Your tired from going to place to place yet you decline all offers of a stable life
A child should want some sort of stability, yet you throw that to the wind
He supposes that your burning determination and self sufficiency are good factors but a child your age shouldn’t have that
You should be carefree and going on a whim
But instead as he looks in your eyes he sees the tired visage of someone who had long lost their innocence to the world despite the laid back nature you show
It’s sad, it leaves him sometimes awake wondering what exactly you had been through
Maybe it was marines, it would explain your apprehension at first around him
Hair standing on end despite the lax facade you put up
Eyes looking at him with caution like a frightened and cornered cat. Calculating how to best go about the situation
The way in which you discuss with him about justice and what it meant
He digs more and finds scraps of nothing
Meanwhile as all that happened you were blissfully unaware of his spiral of worries
Just focusing on your job as you memorized the headquarters and marine procedures
You had nothing else to do plus it could come in handy
Along with that you befriend some of the few decent marines
One of which you spend quite a lot of time with despite Sengoku complaining about the smoke smell that hangs off your uniform…and the second hand smoking risk
Not like it can kill you quick so you don’t really care
You listen in on a lot of juicy marine rumours
There is quite a surprising amount of it
Despite your comfortable happiness here it’s merely an afterthought
You know you can’t stay here long
It feels as if it betrays Roger and the many other pirates you had found yourself in the company of
You desire freedom and marines are in direct opposition of that
But with this experience you find growth in your views
Marines weren’t all bad. They served the purpose of keeping order, something naturally needed in the world
But they are overstepping, wanting entire control when there needs to be a balance of both order and chaos to keep things in line
Plus you met a few that you’d otherwise consider good people in a system they thought would do good
You can’t fault them for that, not when so many sought out with good intentions
Secretly you prepare your leave, your boat already having washed up in the bay a few week back
Your not sure why but it always seemed to show up where you were
Maybe another aspect of your devil fruit? You don’t know it’s full capabilities but don’t question it
You’d rather let life do what it does best and put things in order if the stars align
At this point your prepared to leave but hold out for a bit longer for Sengoku’s sake
But then you delivered to him a letter whilst he was having a meeting with a fellow marine
Even before you enter the room you can recognize Garp’s boisterous laughter
Despite his now more apparent age from time he’s still eccentric and buzzing with excitement
As you enter the room you keep your head down and caps brim tilted as to shadow your face
Sengoku notices this but doesn’t voice it aloud as Garp laughs about something
He barely gets a image of you before your out the office
Heading to the small room designated as your own as you write a letter saying goodbye
You can’t stay, can’t risk it
Sengoku arrives a couple hours later completely exhausted from Garps usual rambling
He’s not sure how someone can go from business to about his grandsons
He has your dinner in hand, apparently you never showed up at the mess hall
His voice and knocks are responded with silence
Worry gnaws away at him, the feeling of something being wrong apparent more than ever
the door creaks open and your not there
What he’s met with is an open window with sheets cascading down the wall and a note
He runs to the pier despite knowing your not there
It’s there he takes time to actually read the note
A thank you but an explanation about how you must leave. Head off towards yet another adventure in the grand world you called home
Tears cascade down his cheeks as he reads it
They do not get better when it tells him that you would always remember his kindness
And that he taught you something valuable to viewing the world
Heading back to his office he thinks back to his son once more
Something finally coming to mind
He swears he remembers Rosinante mentioning someone similar to you as a childhood friend
The only person him and his brother had as children
He shoo’s off that thought though
They were dead
His son watched that firsthand
But because of that he knows that Rosinante would want to know of you
He takes the picture he took of you in the delivery uniform and placed it in a letter
He’d have his son look into perhaps finding you
Or at least extending a helping hand if he hand found you adrift at sea
He’d stash away the reminders of your stay lest he get an earful from Garp
Speaking of which, the idiot hero of the people seemed more alert for some reason. Just saying he was on the look out for an old friend…odd
Kid pirates
They find your ship as your drifting at sea
You were fishing at the time, passing the time plus trying to get some potential food
And then you see this giant ship pull up near yours
Your not really scared though a bit surprised cause you recognized that Jolly Roger
You’d heard a lot about this crew, but you didn’t know who was the captain
Seems like your question will be answered
Staring down from the side of the ship is someone with fiery red hot hair and someone wearing a mask with an equally wild mane of golden locks
For some reason though the red head looks familiar
Extremely…ohhhh you knew him
Oh shit you knew him when he was a kid
And now he’s grown up (you’d hadn’t even realized it’s been that long) and your still as young as you were back then
With no possible explanation to write you off as a different person
Shit-
Before you can do anything your lifted out from your ship via a metal bracelet on your arm made of wire and screw
Curtesy of Kid all those years ago who stares at you with a mixture of confusion, shock and anger
His crew is watching with batted breath wondering what he’ll do
“I’m guessing you want an explanation”
“No shit”
“Captain let’s take this someplace private”
With that the two take you to his workshop, a place similar to the one he had growing up
Yet it’s now not just a shack
Around the room there’s metal scraps and almost completed projects scattered around
It smells of iron, rust, determination, stubbornness and oil
All of which you’d come to associate with the red haired captain you now sit across from
And of killer who you now recognized despite the mask
You don’t have much of a choice to tell the truth
Especially since you know for a fact both would be able to tell if your lying
Kid is angry, perhaps not at you but for the circumstances of your life
It’s no wonder that even as children you were a bit odd
Staring off into space as you’d say some weird cryptic shit
But it also explains the sadness as well
The few times he caught you silently mourning something or someone in the dead of night
His anger fades though and becomes something else when you mention you didn’t know the years had flown by and he was grown up now
It scares him
You hadn’t realized the large passage of time from when you left that one night to now
When you admit that your even a bit shaken and confused but shrug it off
That really fucking terrified him especially when you begin to recount some of what you’d done in that time
For so long he and Killer assumed you died but perhaps you had something worse than that
You’d lived through so much
Through bloodshed and war
Through loss and grief
Countless deaths of not only the people you’d formed a connection with but yourself
Pain was now a meer concept to you
He sees how strong you are (and he heavily respects that) but at the same time how close you are to the breaking point
When Kid cares for someone it’s akin to molten steel
It’s burning brightly and protectively forming a hard barrier towards it and danger
There are a few people he’d ever stick his neck out for to protect (that being his crew and Killer)
And one of them is you, the only other person in his childhood that ever stood through thick and thin with him
By god will he ever admit it through words but with actions
And his actions are subtle as hell to those who don’t know him
On deck as his crew are rowdy he makes sure to keep out and eye for you, especially considering how your prime bumping into material for being so short
Luckily for him though your usually on someone’s shoulders or being playfully tossed around
Despite how clashing the rest of the crew’s personalities are from your own you fit in. Your calmness allowing you to go with the flow of their escapades
It’s not really surprising to him, but there are a few of the crew who comment about it
There were a lot of ways to describe you but he thought the best was the eye of the storm
A peace and calm within the swirling winds of danger and chaos
Bringing a calm breeze and momentary warmth
It’s easy for him to notice but his men are more content
Happy as you indulge in games with them or give a break from the hecticality of life at sea
This is of course all good and nice but Kid is somewhat huffy when you spend too much time with them
When this happens killer usually gives you a signal so you go spend time before kid ends up destroying something
One of his favourite pastimes with you is having you help with his tinkering
Sitting in a small chair made of metal and scrap as he works diligently
During these times he doesn’t talk, just listens as you tell stories or stay silent with him
It’s therapeutic in some way
Especially since the only background noise is the clanking of metal
Sometimes you ask about his devil fruit power and he shows off
Making you oh and ah about the versatility of what he can do
It makes something in him swell with pride especially since you look at him with awe
Just as he did as a kid when you told stories of pirates
During the late nights in which his crew are asleep you both talk
He digs deeper into your stories and gets madder and madder when more and more of your life is exposed
Most of your responses when hearing the truth is pity but his is anger
A weird but validating reaction that makes your long died out anger ignite a little
He lets you punch, scratch and scream to let it all out. Encouraging you to do so
Sometimes you swear you can see a brightly shining star in him. His determination for something that burns like a furnace used to heat up metal to bend to his whim
Killer is much like kid in the fact that he’s worried about and cares but he goes about it a much different way
He’s the only voice of reason on this ship
And he’s honestly glad to have someone else who’s level headed
As much as he loves his captain and crew it can kinda get annoying sometimes when he’s the only responsible person
Your at least not jumping to set the ship on fire every 3 minutes unlike some people
Hearing your situation now makes a lot of sense when thinking back to when he and Kid where young
There were a lot of inconsistencies and things that didn’t make sense
But now they do on the fact you were a seemingly immortal traveler
It makes him upset like Kid though
Your situation wasn’t fair
Your life wasn’t the dream your once made it out to be
Sure there are moments of happiness dispersed through the cold harsh waters but it took you dying in horrible ways to get there
You didn’t see that but you felt it’s affects
The occasional times he’d have you help cooking and then you’d blank out
Be stuck in your mind till he snaps you out of it and you explained how you were once eaten
It’s terrifyingly eye opening to how the world treats someone like you
A kind and calm soul who only wants freedom amongst the waves
Yet though they are sometimes treated with kindness there is also cruelty
Like Kid it leaves him angry
Upset on how you let yourself be treated in such a way along with brushing it off
Not only that but it’s also concerning
How you endure the worst things he could imagine yet it seems to be an afterthought
Until he finds you in the middle of the night staring out at the darkness with a certain look in your eye
There’s not much he nor Kid can do but he promises himself he’d try
Try for your sake to actually value yourself
Killer on the ship is the cook amung other duties as well, but cooking is his favourite
He has you help out as a second pair of hands
To be honest he doesn’t trust anyone else on the ship to cook without accidentally (or purposefully) poisoning someone so he usually does it alone
It’s the only time of peace on this madhouse that he calls of home
And it’s nice he gets to share it with someone
He assigns small tasks for you to do on the account your still a kid (despite how much you protest and say your literally older than him)
Cutting vegetables, grabbing ingredients, taste testing and stirring are your main priorities
But occasionally he has you help with other things as long as he can keep a close eye on you
He knows for a fact if you hurt yourself you wouldn’t tell him and brush it off
And by god he doesn’t need you to die of something stupid just cause you didn’t care to tell him
Unlike Kid he’s not afraid to verbally give affection
It’s just in private moments that he prefers it
Soft thank you’s and moments in which he admits he had missed having you around
The logical side of him knows he and Kid can’t convince you to stay but the emotional side tries anyways
Showing you how happy you could be if you stayed here
How the crew saw you as their own
How much safer you’d be rather than just drifting from place to place
It’s a loosing battle but one he tries anyways cause he cares
And he knows Kid cares despite the fact he tries to deny it
Cause Killer knows Kid
Seen how the red haired captain had been more motivated as of late
How much happier he is
The fact that when you bring up leaving the red haired captain locks himself in his workshop for the night to try and distract himself
He wishes you’d see how much you affected people, affected them
Cause despite what you thought of yourself your able to do the impossible
You leave a real impact on those you’d met even if it was for a short time
The crew sometimes pester him for answers on how he and Kid already knew you but he doesn’t budge
That’s a private matter that only you could disclose if you so wanted to
But for now he just says you were friends beforehand which gets some confusion
Speaking of the crew, he watches as you interact with them
Quickly somehow worming your way into their hearts as you did his
Watches as you play poker and they teach you how to cheat at the game or sing shanties while they drink
He may or may not have gave a few a good knock on the head for letting you take a few sips
(Kid hides the fact he gave you some as well)
He carry’s you off to bed and sneaks you some sweats he snagged at a port
Even allows you to brush and braid his hair in private
Kid once walked in and laughed his ass off about killer going soft
And then the two had a playful fight
Meanwhile you sat there laughing
It was like old times
As always you eventually leave but not before the crew throws a large party in your honour (and partially to drink the feelings away)
Before you set off again kid gifts you a bracelet made by him and a small piece of paper
To always find them if you needed their help
You smile and set off, not knowing how the crew stares with ignorant hope you’d turn around
Crocodile
Your not sure how but somehow you ended up in a desert with absolutely no idea of what island this was
Naturally you decided to lay in the sand and wait to die so you’d wake up somewhere else
But a few hours into that a shadow obscures the harsh sun that had been glaring at you for hours
A man, black slicked hair and elegant clothes with a golden hook for a hand
Beside him is another man, what you assumed to be a bodyguard of sorts
“Hi what desert is this?. I’d like to know where exactly I am before I die”
Yeah they definitely didn’t expect that for an answer
But with what you said you seemed to intrigue the hooked man
“Alabasta. What are you doing out here in the first place alone kid?”
“Woke up here. Was waiting to die”
Admittedly crocodile was just gonna save you as to make his imagine of being the hero of this country even better but now you’ve really got him interested
Even Daz was somewhat surprised and intrigued by your comment and lax attitude towards death (even your own)
So as he takes you back to the city, taking in the fame that came with it, he decides to “look after you” until your parents come to claim you
As any kind Samaritan would do
Your calling bullshit on that but amuse his words anyways
At his casino he talks to you as he does paperwork and take mysterious calls you leave the room for
While your curious you respect his privacy which he seems to appreciate
Crocodile is a peculiar man
Someone of specific interests and a golden viper-like tongue that leads to fools eating out the palm of his hand
You can see that though, quite easily actually
Eyes looking past the hand he holds out to the hook he hides behind his back and goons just behind the corner
He honestly applauds that you see it
In his words your “a smart kid.” Which you assume is something he doesn’t say often
Much like an oasis in the scathing sands of the desert
Your conversations with him are much more personable rather than focusing on his clearly defined goals and plans
That isn’t your business to divulge in, but his character is up to your judgment
He’s obviously not a good person but half of the people you’d called friends were criminals and killers alike
Sure some had morals but there’s still a stated fact that they had taken lives in pursuit of their goals
Roger included
You’d be a hypocrite to think otherwise
Talks often involve subjects of death and the goal of freedom
And what freedom meant in this world that was quickly having it taken away
Crocodile is tinged by death much like the lingering smell of his cigars
It follows him like a plague, like sand stuck to your clothes after getting wet
Yet despite that it’s a clearly interesting topic to him especially since you disregard your own safety
He’d seen it in the desert and at his casino where you nearly got shot by an angry patron
You don’t care about your own death
But when it comes to others it’s a different story
It’s interesting to him
Why were you so selfless in the fact you’d carelessly throw your life away for someone else’s
In this world it’s one only won by the selfish
He’s a prime example of that
At his core he knows he’s selfish, his goal is an example of that fact
Yet despite how foolish it is to not be selfish…with you it’s admirable
You don’t have some sunny and innocent view on the matter. You know it’s a loosing game yet you pursue it anyways
Perhaps it’s more foolish in that way but you don’t care
Not when you have the freedom to choose and make those choices anyways
Freedom matters to you more than words can describe and he relates
It is freedom that let him make the course of his own destiny
Changing who he once was to the person he is now
Now comfortable in his own skin and confident in his abilities and identity
Perhaps it’s cause you had your freedom taken away at some point but you relate in some way
Not having the choice in a matter and suffering due to it
He doesn’t go into full detail on the matter but you have a knowing look in your eye and a semblance of deep respect because of it
It makes a part of him feel light and airy
Despite all the clearly scummy aspects of himself that are as clear as day to your eyes….you respect him
Some still deeply insecure part of him curls up at that and wants to cry
You respected him
That’s something he’d always wanted
It’s not motivated by fear and greed but true respect for the hardships he’d been through to get here
Worry curls up in his gut, swirling and violent like the sands storms he creates
Shit, he’s attached
What’s worse is that you’d wormed your way into the others hearts as well
Even Daz has to admit you grew on him
Your a lot like a cancerous sore. Growing and spreading to a new part of the body
Yet he can’t will himself to cut you off
And neither does his inner circle
It complicates things but at this point he accepts it after a brief moment of reflection and thought
He hadn’t thought of trying to find your parents and had the posters taken down
Now fully intending to keep you as his own
He doesn’t ask you on the matter, just slowly begins the process
Decorating your room to your preference
….which was very hard considering you didn’t have one and settled for the bare minimum most of the time
Yeah it’s a bit of a challenge especially since your beginning to catch on real quick
It’s kinda easy to tell when someone goes from “I’m keeping you around for entertainment” to “I’m keeping you around as my kid now”
While you appreciate the offer and effort you don’t particularly like your freedom being impeded upon
“You know that’s hypocritical right?”
“Yes but when have pirates ever been people of their word?”
“Touché…but I’m still not happy about this”
As this happens he begins to dig deeper to who you are
Intent on figuring out if you had parents and if he could perhaps…get “custody” to put it broadly
But that becomes a challenge when there’s seemingly nothing about you except for vague whispers across the sea
A legend
A story
A song
It’s old, going back to the days of Roger and references to before that as well
A tale of a star that never really died
It’s forgotten to many but to a few it still lives on
And he has the vaguest idea from the description in the song that it’s you
But for awhile it’s a mere speculation
Until you end up dying in front of him from a deal gone wrong
Despite the fact you knew the bullet would pass through his body you instinctually throw yourself in front of him
The bullet piercing your chest
A deafening silence filling the moment between him and his inner circle of baroque works
And then chaos
Their swiftly dealt with, the perpetrator personally having their body liquids drained within mere moments
And then he’s at your side as Bentham does their best to stop the bleeding
Despite the fact your bleeding with a piece of led stuck in your chest your unfazed
Shrugging it off as “pain is a concept to me at this point”
It makes him angry, sad and determined all at the same time
Angry at the fact you must’ve experienced so much pain that something like this is nothing to you
Sadness that you’ve went through this before
And determination to stop it from happening again. To have the ability to protect you
“Let it be known that when you come back I’ll be looking for you”
“So you know?”
“Had some connections…found an old story but you just confirmed it”
You giggle lightly at that, not even wincing as you cough up some blood with your laughter
They all watch as your eyes fade of their light and then after that your body breaks into sparkling dust
Crocodile is a selfish man, one driven by ambition and greed
It’s funny you think he’d let go someone he considered to be a diamond in the rubble
One that shone as bright as a star in the sky
He extinguishes his cigar under his boot, grasping the small bits of starlight in his hand before it slips through his fingers like sand
He chuckles, how ironic
In the world populated by the greedy he intends to be king
And a king guards his treasure especially something that is as priceless as you are in this world
“Watch out kid. You’ve gotten me attached and there’s no undoing that now”
Boa Hancock
For a brief time you had spent a couple months or so as a celestial dragon’s slave
It was by complete accident that you were kidnapped and subsequently sold
But in that time you’d come to learn more of the politics of the world
Specifically the inequality of rules for nobles from the world government
You don’t spend much time as a slave but it’s torturous
Permanently scaring your mind with the pain of being branded as property
Seen as an object that can be broken
In your time there though you remember 3 girls
That time is a blur in your mind but you remember giving your limited food to them
The group being taken aback by the kindness as you explained you’d be fine
It went on like that for awhile
You never got their names but you gave them yours
They were sisters, the one with black hair being the oldest of the trio
It was a friendship made out of desperation
Of knowing that none of you were alone
The eldest of the group is one day forced to kill you for the pleasure of the sick bastard who had branded you all
She’s sobbing
He’ll kill her sisters if she doesn’t
You tell her it’s ok, that she must do what she can to survive and keep them alive
That death didn’t scare you
Her devil fruit turns you to stone within an instant but not from romantic love
It’s from the love of a friend
Of someone who’d cared for her and her sisters enough to give up your own for them
For her to keep them safe
The statue crumbles and she’s left sobbing
Gold floats from the grey dust that scatters around her
She thinks back to some of your last words
She had to be strong for her sisters
Make sure they get out of here lest your sacrifice be in vain
She’d be strong so she can protect
Just as you protected her and them from a violent fate
Even through the scar isn’t there anymore you scratch at your back
Remembering the pain of that seal
You can’t remember who the symbol belongs to anymore
Other than then being some type of royal
The cycle begins again
Smoker
You met him during your brief time at marineford
One of the only Marines whom you found to actually be good
Not just seeing things as simply black and white good and bad
Sure, he had a job to do and accomplish but he at least had a sense of morally grey justice
A well weighted scale so one side is not preferred over the other
It’s because of him that the smell of lingering smoke now leaves a sense of comfort to you
Admitting this to him makes the rather gruff man go completely red
Much like the lot end of those cigars that he loves so much
Despite how own duties he’d help you deliver things at the base
Having his smoke help carry letters across the island within minutes as to give you a small break
Speaking of which, he basically forces you to have mandatory breaks from work
Oftentimes literally dragging you off to go get something to eat
You have the feeling he has a soft spot for kids but vehemently denies that fact
(The way he buys you ice cream and lets you sit on his shoulder says otherwise but ok)
Another thing supports this fact is that he grows quite concerned at your complete disregard for your safety
The man has a panic attack every time you make an odd comment about “do you think I’d die from this height or shatter my legs” and “could you theoretically give people cancer or kill them via smoke blockage in the lungs?”
You can’t convince him that you had a happy childhood before this
Sengoku not being able to find your parents makes this thought worse
You didn’t know him for very long but you hope to one day run into home again
Charlotte LinLin
Somehow you ended up at an orphanage after someone found you asleep and adrift at sea
It most cases this would’ve been a blessing
To you it was an annoyance as they left you at a place for the abandoned and mourning
A reminder of where you might have ended up if you haven’t ate your fruit
Hadn’t taken the reigns of fate in your hands and steered it towards the endless blue sea
Immediately you want to leave the moment you can, especially since you get off vibes from “mother caramel”
That woman is up to something real bad
You can feel it deep in your bones
But you end up staying when you meet a peculiar girl
She’s young but not little, she towers over you like a giant
Puffy pink hair kept in two buns and freckles cheeks paired with a large toothy smile
She’s an interesting character, so like always you end up staying
Her name is Linlin, someone with monstrous power yet is innocent to a frightening degree
She has a kind heart yet doesn’t realize her strength
Something you try to help her with
Linlin is ecstatic to have you as a friend especially since you don’t seem out off by her size
You stay by her side, more specifically on her shoulder and tell her stories that make her eyes widen in curiosity
Telling stories of other races, showing her that the other children who aren’t human aren’t needing to be fixed like she initially thought
Their all perfect
She’s still a little confused but she gets the gist of it
Another thing she doesn’t get is discrimination and thinks it’s stupid
She expresses a dream of a place where everyone can live in peace
It’s a beautiful dream but one that is far fetched, yet you can’t help but tell her to go for it
Because there’s no harm in trying
Mother Caramel seemingly assigns you as Linlin’s impulse control
Seemingly since your the only one who can actually make her listen when she’s blind from rage
As much as you don’t like the old woman, she’s got a point
Linlin is a hurricane if made angry and you’re the key into keeping it at peace
She seems to note that to herself for some greater reason
In the end you didn’t know Linlin for very long but she seemed to hold you in such a high regard she deemed you her “bestest friend!”
It’s nice
But like all things they come to and end
But surprisingly it’s by her own hand
At her 6th birthday everyone had come together to make her sweets knowing she loved anything sugary
She was in tears, grin so wide you thought it was big as the red line
She ate and ate
Until there was no cake left
But like in those blind rages she didn’t see
She didn’t see there was nothing left
Didn’t notice what she now began to eat was the rest of the children sitting nearby
Mother caramel
And finally you
Eventually she woke up, finding herself alone and confused
Glitter flowing up into the sky
Years later you hear about some island meant to be a utopia for all people
It reminds you of that little pink haired girl
But that can’t be, you heard the pirate behind it was a maniac
That couldn’t be the innocent girl you met and became friends with
…how did you die that time again?
All the deaths have merged together or you can’t remember which death went where
For all you know the one where you got eaten was that one
But that can’t be
From what you remember Linlin was kind if not naive
She couldn’t
Wouldn’t
The cycle begins again
Katakuri
For awhile you stayed at an island that specialized in baked goods
And that served as a calling for the famous pirate known as “big mom” and her children
The island was not yet under their…”protection” but was being negotiated with as of when you visited
And on that island you found yourself at a bakery buying sweets to your hearts content
Specifically donuts
The one where we’re apparently particularly good
And honestly it’s been awhile since you’d treated yourself to a good meal
Soooo you splurged a bit and bought them all
And that leads to an odd meeting when you run into the giant of a man with a pink tattoo and fur lined scarf covering the bottom half of his face
The chefs cower as they tell him that their all out of the sweet treat
Despite the evident frown he doesn’t look as if he’s about to trash the place like the chefs are making it seem
He simply seems disappointed and a bit sour
Despite how everyone is clearly afraid of him you poke his arm making him look at you
“We can share if you’d like. I don’t mind”
From the mortified looks of everyone in the room it’s evident everyone is half expecting him to flat out obliterate you on the spot
But much to their surprise he seem to think it over
“If you see me eating I’ll kill you”
“Aight, that’s fine with me. We can eat back to back, then I won’t see you”
The bakery is left silent as you leave with the pirate
They prey your alright
Just as your promised you eat back to back. He creates a small house of mochi as you put down the donut box and you both eat
It’s peaceful and nice
He half expects for you to turn around but you don’t
You don’t even seem to consider it as you happily eat and engage in small conversations
It’s odd being asked such mundane things like “how was your day?” And “what do you do for a living?”
Let alone by someone who isn’t currently shaking in fear
….it’s nice
You let him have the last donut much to his surprise
He enjoyed this much more than he thought he would
So he comes up with an ultimatum
“I’ll be too busy to buy them before they sell out…would you be willing to buy them and then we do what we did today?”
“Sounds fun to me.”
He leaves with a warm feeling in his chest
Not even his siblings treated him in such a relaxed manner…it was refreshing
The next day ticks by and he finds himself awaiting for the meeting to be over
He stops himself from tapping his foot but his irritation occasionally seeps out
It goes to help speed up conversation though and then he’s free
Like the day prior you both meet at the same place
He insists on paying you back but you refuse
It’s confusing but he doesn’t make a comment about it
In the grande scheme if things this is such a small thing but it begins to mean the world to him
He’s only intended to stay here for a week yet he dreads that final day
So much so that he finishes business early
When you go to the shop you find that their already sold out much to your displeasure
You go to tell the sweet toothed man you befriended and find him already with the confectionery
You eat back to back once more for the last time
Enjoying the donuts that bring him momentary relaxation and relief from the pressure to be the prefect son
The perfect big brother
It’s nice
And for once he feels as if he was his true self around someone
You hear him cry but don’t turn around out of respect for him
Instead you just offer him more food and gently pat his arm
A small “thank you” falls from his mouth and you smile
You thank him in return for the pleasant company
He wonders if this is what is mother experienced when having her “bestest friend” all those years ago
The one story that him and all his siblings had heard growing up
About someone much like yourself
He leaves the island with a smile beneath his scarf and a noticeable better mood
His siblings ponder about what happened but he doesn’t speak a work of it
This was a treasure he’d like to keep to himself
For some reason his mother has a knowing look
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Btw wanted to thank you all for liking this so far. I was honestly kinda scared to actually post for one piece but I’m glad people are enjoying my content for it. I recently got into the show and wanted to write about it cause I love it so much.
