TARGET
Marinette glared at the screen in front of her. Everything about it went against everything she stood for. The collar! The color! The vee! Everything! There was absolutely nothing redeeming about this outfit. Who would dare design such a thing? Her stylus blurred as she tried to fix the atrocity placed before her. The door to her apartment swung wide, admitting a tall, broad shouldered man. "Pix-" a hand slammed against his mouth before he could get any further. "Shh!" A voice hissed at him. "Don't let her know you're here." Jason pushed the hand off his mouth and glared at the blond. "Adrien? What-" "Shh! You're being too loud. She'll hear you." Adrien glanced at the small, muttering blunette before pulling Jason to the kitchen. From here, they could see her and talk without risking anything. "Adrien, what are you doing?" "Someone sent Nette a compilation of bad Bat designs. She's tearing into Nightwing's discowing costume, right now. If you bother her, you'll be her next target......Want to risk it?" Jason stared at Marinette, stylus blurring and dark mutters creeping through the apartment. "She'll emerge around dinner. What do you think, Adrien? Mexican tonight?" "Sounds good to me!"

A Return To Gotham: Chapter 1
Prompt: Target (Jasonette July) @maribat-calendar-events
Rating: T
Ships: Jason Todd/Marinette Dupain-Cheng
Contains: OC children, tooth-rotting fluff,
A/N: Sorry these are coming out at a snail’s pace, been very busy with other life stuff. We hope you enjoy it as these ideas have been in the works for a while now. - Maribat Girl
Chapter 2
Chapter 1
Marinette sat bored at the cash register at her family bakery, it had been a slow day. She watched people walk past, with a customer or two stepping in. She hoped business would pick up, she checked her watch, school should be closing soon and then they'll get a wave of customers.
Jason emerged from upstairs carrying their infant son asleep in his arms, wearing a frilly pink apron, wiping his sweat with a towel. "Have the kids come home yet?"
Marinette chuckled as she saw her husband in a pink apron, in all their 14 years of marriage, she still never expected him to turn out like this. "Not yet, school won't be over for another five minutes." She gave her husband a kiss on the lips.
Their child stirred and cooed in his father’s arms "Wakey-wakey, happy to see me, kiddo?"
"I'm pretty sure Louis likes you more," Marinette joked as the baby laughed in Jason's hands.
Laughter quickly turned to cries, Jason gave a quick sniff before passing the baby to Marinette "Do you mind doing it? Customers probably don't want any surprises in their pain au chocolat."
Marinette laughed at Jason's crude joke and brought the child upstairs for a diaper change, while Jason took over the register.
On cue, students from Collège Françoise Dupont across the road flooded in for treats and snacks. Students selected their favourite bread and cakes and queued to pay, one student however just grabbed one from the display and began eating.
"Hey! That girl didn't pay!" One student yelled and pointed.
"I live here dumbass," the girl said as she took another bite from her palmier.
Jason couldn't help but chuckle from his daughter's response "Welcome home Emma," he said with a grin.
Emma smiled back "Palmiers are great as always," she said as she made her way behind the counter.
Emma Todd, handsome, clever and rich, with a comfortable home and happy disposition, seemed to unite some of the best blessings of existence, and had lived nearly thirteen years in the world with very little to distress or vex her.
As the sudden rush of customers died down, a young boy entered all on his lonesome. There was a large backpack over his shoulder and a sketchbook tucked under his arm. “I’m home.”
Jason greeted his son with a smile, “Welcome back Hugo, how was school?”
“Good, can I have some macaroons?” Hugo asked politely. Jason nodded in response and gave the boy macaroons in a paper bag. “Thank you,” Hugo said as he made his way upstairs.
Hugo Todd, clumsy and scatterbrained, eight years of age with a love of art that rivalled his mother’s love of fashion. He carried his sketchbook almost everywhere and would usually get sidetracked and draw whatever caught his attention.
Hugo took after his mother, and little did he know, Jason kept his many drawings over the years in a little drawer in his study.  Hugo would also watch in awe as their hamster, Marron, made his way through his cage.  Emma took after Jason, and in more recent years he pretended not to notice his copy of Dracula being moved ever so slightly every time he saw it on his shelf.  Jason made sure to keep his copies of Madame Bovary, Les Liaisons Dangereuses, and Thérèse Raquin far out of her reach. Hugo was a gentle soul who wouldn’t hurt a fly, while Emma was brash and stubborn.  She was a lot like him that way, but Jason always hoped her sharp mind would be used as a tool and never a weapon.
If you had told Jason over two decades ago that his trip to Paris would end with him meeting their local heroine, falling in love with her, and raising a family with said heroine, he would have laughed in your face.  Yet, here he was, as Marinette and her family welcomed him with open arms into their lives.  They didn’t know or care about his past, they treated him as part of their family.  Marinette was the only one who knew the truth about his past, considering that they first crossed paths as Ladybug and Red Hood.  He told her all about what happened, from fighting crime at Batman’s side since he was 13, to dying at 15 and being brought back to life, to becoming one of the most formidable crime lords in Gotham.  It should have had her running for the hills, but she also got her powers at a young age and took on the heavy burden of becoming the Guardian of a box full of magic jewelry.  One morning, Sabine caught him in Marinette’s room hastily putting on a shirt to cover the bandages, she gave Marinette a knowing smile before inviting them down for breakfast.  Not long after they got married, Marinette got pregnant with Emma. Considering his own sordid family history, Jason couldn’t even imagine raising one kid who wouldn’t turn out as messed up as he was, nevermind three.  Yet, so far his children weren’t afraid of him, they weren’t fending for themselves on the streets, and they weren’t going toe to toe with criminals every night.  So, he told himself he was at least doing something right.  He still kept tabs on what went on in Gotham, but he hadn’t spoken to anyone in the Bat clan for some time.  Jason had been given the chance to begin anew in Paris, and so far it worked out well for him.
Jason was brought out of his thoughts with the jingle of the door opening “Welcome to the Jason & Marinette Boulangerie Patisserie.”
A young woman with blue hair entered the shop and chuckled as Jason said his line, “Must you say that tacky line all the time Uncle Jason?”
“Just for you Lian,” Jason said as he hugged the young woman. “How’s your old man? What’s that crazy asshole done now?”
Lian sighed, “He asked Auntie Emiko to team up as Red Arse,”
“Oh shit, here we go again,” Jason jokingly groaned.
“He misses you, keeps asking me to check up on you and make sure you’re staying out of trouble,” Lian said as she looked through the various loaves of bread and pastries.
“Bold words for someone who once tested out their flamethrower on the shower,” Jason retorted. “Is he staying out of trouble?” Roy fought his inner demons with tooth and nail, in hopes of becoming the father that Lian deserved.
Lian tapped her chin thoughtfully, “It’s been 30 days since one of his experiments blew up in his face,” she remarked jokingly, “So, yeah I’d say he’s doing okay.” Lian pointed to the loaf she wanted, “I’ll have the Boule,”.
“Good choice, it’s on the house,” Jason said as she packed the loaf into a paper bag. “The door’s always open for him to visit himself if he’s ever free,” Jason said as he gave the bag to Lian. “Also tell him he’s not getting any freebies,” Jason quickly added as she walked out of the shop with her free loaf of bread.
Roy was one of the only people who knew what really happened to Jason, not that he told him, he just found him.  Emma was a toddler at the time, when one afternoon, a familiar face with a hideous auburn goatee walked into the bakery.  Jason tried to keep his back turned, hoping Roy wouldn’t recognise him.  He’d managed to make a new life for himself here, and the last thing he needed was his past showing up on his doorstep once more.  He busied himself kneading the bread in the back room, while Sabine was working the counter.
“Jason!” Sabine called out to the back room, “Give this young man a fresh loaf of pain de campagne,”
Jason swore internally, “Uh, the next batch of brioche needs a bit more kneading,”
“Oh that's fine, Tom can help you there, can’t you darling?” Sabine asked her husband. He gave a quick nod and walked into the kitchen.
Jason walked out with the requested loaf of bread, already packaged into the shop’s signature paper bag. Roy squinted his eyes slightly as Jason handed him the bag, “You look familiar…”
“Is that so?” Jason kept his gaze low, as he pulled his hair net down.
“You American as well?” Roy asked, knowing the answer as he clearly heard their exchange earlier.
“Yeah, I’ve been living here for a few years,” he said and hoped that would be the end of it. Roy would walk out of the shop and leave him to his new life.  The trouble was that he knew Roy, he’d seen him persistently tinker away at his inventions and it was unlikely that this trait of his ever faded.
“Seriously, you remind me of an old friend of mine,” he said, the goatee twitched as he smirked, “his name was also Jason, and he just kinda fell off the face of the earth one day.” “Is that so? Wondered what happened to him?” Jason asked, he looked out the window at the pedestrians strolling past.
“Dunno, some people thought he died.” Roy shrugged, Jason wondered if he was better off having Bruce thinking he got himself killed a second time. Roy looked around to see if anyone was listening before he whispered, “Personally, I never believed it, I thought he was too stubborn to die a second time.”
Jason sighed, resigned to his fate, “Been a while, Roy.”
“So it really is you, what are you doing here?” Roy ran up and enveloped his friend in a hug.
Jason hugged back a little reluctantly, he wasn’t too happy about an aspect of his past reemerging. But, in the case of Roy, he was willing to make an exception.
Sabine gasped when she came back and saw them, “Two old friends meeting again, how lovely. How did you two meet by the way?” she asked.
“Dude, what’s your cover story?” Roy whispered.
“Um, our families were close,” Jason quickly answered Sabine.
“Jason, go take your break, it's fine. Catch up with your friend.” Sabine shooed the two out of the bakery.
Jason and Roy walked into a quiet alley near the bakery to talk, “So, you became a baker?” Roy said as he tried to hold back his laughter.
“Mhmm, I’ve left all of ‘that’ behind. I got married and settled down, I have a daughter too,” Jason admitted.
“Ah, so who’s the lucky lady?” Roy winked, unaware of the fact that he literally summed up his wife in two words.
“My wife’s family owns the place, that tiny old lady you saw a moment ago is my mother-in-law,” Jason told him.
“Do they know?” Roy asked, “About literally anything that happened in your past?”
“Only my wife knows, and no one else. Red Hood has no place here, and I intend to keep it that way. I’m not raising my daughter to fight supervillains,” he doesn’t know what he would do if something bad were to happen to Emma and his veins burned with rage at the thought.  Marinette could hold her own, but neither of them planned on passing the torch to Emma.
“Fair enough,” Roy said.
Jason exhaled, “I’m trying to lay low, I guess you could say I took this chance to start over. I don’t want word getting out, especially to Bruce,” he explained “I sure as hell don’t want them to become a target either.”
“Hey, what do you take me for? Some loud blabbermouth?” Roy put his hand to his chest in a show of being hurt.
“Yes,” Jason responded bluntly, and there were too many people close to Roy with the power to go rooting around in people’s minds.
“Ouch, fine point taken. I won’t tell anyone, you have my word.” Roy raised his fist towards Jason, he responded by bumping his fist.
Jason smiled as he reminisced of his chance encounter with Roy all those years ago. Ever since then him and Lian would occasionally stop by the bakery whenever they were in Paris.  Over the years, Roy had become more and more busy, either fighting crime in Star City or helping rear a new generation of heroes in Jump City.
“The kids and I are going for a quick walk in the park,” Marinette announced as she walked down the stairs, stroller in hand and their following behind her.
“Alright take care,” Jason said.
That afternoon in Paris, Terry McGinnis stepped out of the taxi into the heart of the city. He gaped at the beautiful sights, the Haussmann Architecture of the surrounding buildings. “Wow, so this is Paris, it's just like the post cards.”
“Stay focused, Kid,” Bruce said over the headset, “You’re looking for the ‘Guardian’, and our only lead is Ladybug.”

Huff. Huff. Huff.
Marinette gasped a breath. She didn't know how long she had been running. Her heart is pounding loudly in her ears.
Everything happened too soon. Too fast.
After she shot down Gabriel, the mayor (that coward) declared them enemy of the state. Citizens tried to defend her but no avail, the mayor is a stubborn fool.
He sent the special forces after them, after her, after saving the city.
Her best guess was that the mayor felt threatened with their power and ordered them gone to save his position.
Tch. Coward.
Bullets started raining down towards her. She ran faster and immidiately dove into a corner.
Shit. They found her.
She leaned on the wall behind her for a second, trying to breathe properly. Everything felt blurry, she noticed. The only thing she can hear was her ragged breathing and far shouting in the background.
Marinette gasped as the world suddenly went clear and was met by an excruciating pain. Her breathing quickened as she stared at the large gash from the right side if her stomach. She bit her lip as she placed her hand against the wound.
Shit.
All she wanted was to be free. To be free of the everyday pain and fear. She wanted the people to live their lives peacefully. For children not to fear for their lives. For the people not to live hoping they would survive another day.
For the people not to live like her. Back when she was a kid.
Marinette can still feel the dirt in her hands, the asphat in her feet and the cold from the harsh winters. The smell of piss lingers in the air and it seems to never dissapear. Odd splatters can be found within the walls of every home. The sky is forever covered in an endless sea of clouds, the giant skyscrapers give light to the city's skyline.
"Home," she softly whispered.
Yes. She still has to come home. Jason is waiting for her to visit.
With newfound determination, Marinette steadied herself.
She grabbed her yoyo and pressed a button. A small device popped out.
It was unlike what she was used to. It was a small black device that has one red button and a small screen. A small bat symbol sticker was behind it.
She pressed the button. A blinking red light and a message appeared.
Message sent.

Jasonette July prompt 12: dare
My masterlist
Jasonette July
Marinette, Jon and Damian were happy to be together again even though they had only been apart a couple weeks. Marinette flew back in from France arriving after Jon had stopped back by from Metropolis. She knew they had been together a couple times since she had been home but it still felt great to have them all back together again. It was so weird not seeing them every day. They finally gave up their wonderful New York apartment since they were all graduated from university and getting jobs soon.
It was really weird at first to live with two guys she barely knew but they ended up getting along great and she had been desperate for a place to live when her place flooded. The landlord had offered her another apartment at the same price but it was really gross and too far away. The flooded apartment, she was told would take too long to repair so they could get rid of the lease. She passed it 6 months later and people were living there and it had a fitness center, coffee shop, and a water garden. She looked online and the rent was 3 times what she had been paying. She was pretty angry, but she ended up with 2 besties from the situation that she probably wouldn’t have gotten to know very well otherwise.
Tonight they were celebrating being back together again. Marinette barely had time to look around Damian’s house because he and Jon were rushing her. She was shoved into a room and Damian gave her a dress that his (sorta) sister helped him pick out and they had food ready for them to eat before they rushed out the door. The plan of the evening was to celebrate job offers and all of them being together again. Marinette wasn’t even given a chance to rest so she was reeling a little from the flight still. But she wasn’t going to pass this up. Jon was always willing to go out and have fun, but Damian feeling in a partying mood was rather rare so they were going to enjoy it.
It was loud in the place even though it was not a large New York club. Marinette had loved going to those so much it had probably eaten into her budget far too much. It was always better going with the guys because they wouldn’t let her pay. They knew she had a much tighter budget. Actually it was mostly Damian paying the covers and the tab without ever saying anything. She was pretty sure that he paid more rent than her too but he just told her that there was already an extra room and she more than made up for it with her constant cooking and she did more of the shared chores.
She knew his family had money, but she had a feeling she had no idea how much money until she saw the house. It was massive and the grounds went further than she could see. She never really talked about it because he didn’t. It was so much different from the people she knew growing up. Chloe who talked about the money all the time or Adrien and Kagami who didn’t talk about it but they were kept separate from others by their parents. She had never even met Damian’s family and they didn’t live that far away. She knew they talked but they didn't tell him how to live all the time.
They got drinks as soon as they were in the door and they did not go slow. Marinette was making up for all her time being considered a minor while living in New York when she left France right as she reached the drinking age there. She could finally drink in public here and they kept feeding her fun fruity drinks and laughing at her stumbling on her heels while still loopy from her flight. She didn’t care though. It was pretty standard for them to all pick on each other a bit it was all in good fun.
She pushed Jon towards a girl who had been watching them. He looked terrified and he tried to fight against her pushing him. He managed it but then she stumbled. She knocked into Damian who kept her on her feet but her arms still swung around wildly. Then she knocked over a drink. She looked back at them sheepishly but they were already looking at her grinning. They would not let her out of a dare even after having just gotten off a plane from Paris. They had been doing dares for knocked over drinks for a couple years but she had gotten a lot more of them that they had. She was significantly better about being more careful now, but It only took one little stumble to ruin her good streak.
---
Jason sat in the corner of his favorite bar looking sullenly around at the noisy crowd around him. He saw Damian across the room and wondered if his presence was responsible for some of the overly excited younger crowd. He may not care about his presence in the media, but they certainly cared about him. He was rich and single and a new college graduate, so he must be looking to mingle. Of course the Demon Spawn wasn’t interested in the crowd around him. He was perfectly happy with Jon nearby. Jason didn’t think he would ever want or need any other friends but as he glanced back he notice a girl with them.
Initially he thought that maybe she was trying to get close to one of the boys but not only did neither seem very interested in the beautiful girl but she seemed to be hanging around with them and bantering. He looked back up and saw her trying to encourage Jon to approach a girl at another table who had been looking their way. Jason nearly lost his foul mood when he saw her stumble and flail around being propped up by Damian. He could see their maniachal looks from across the bar and thought she was begging. But she soon squared her shoulders and took Damian’s fresh drink and drank it until it was only ice left.
She looked around and he looked back down at his drink so he wouldn’t be caught watching her. He finished his drink and signaled the bartender to make him another. He didn’t realize she had moved from beside his brother and friend until he glanced that way and saw her walking right his way. She seemed to be focused on a spot behind him as she walked. He looked back away again as he received his drink. When the waitress stepped away the girl was right behind her and looking right at him.
---
Jon and Damian laughed as they watched Marinette walk across the bar to complete her dare. She looked back at them several times hoping they would change their minds but they were more interested in laughing at her than anything else. She didn’t know anything about the angry looking man sitting alone at the end of the bar, but Jon and Damian knew that at least her fears about him lashing out at her were false. She had never met Damian’s brother so it was a bit fun for them to find a way to play a joke on both of them at once.
Marinette froze as she made eye contact with the man in front of her. He would have been very nice looking if her were smiling but he looked like he had had a very long day and just wanted to be left alone. But Marinette didn’t want to face the consequences for not doing the dare. Damian and Jon would never let her live it down. The man watched her standing there but he didn’t say anything and neither did Marinette. That was part of the challenge. She wasn’t allowed to say what was happening. She reached over to him and tapped his nose with her finger.
“Boop,” she said, as she touched his nose.
She almost expected him to yell or be angry. But she figured she could get away from that. But he just let it happen; he had no interest in causing a scene. As if he knew exactly what she would do he reached out and grabbed her arm before she could retract it. The way he held on caused her to lean heavily on the bar next to him. His face didn’t look angry, she almost thought he had a hint of a smirk. He loosened his hold but didn’t release her arm completely.
“Where did Damian and Jon find such a lovely friend to send to poke the bear?”
“Wha--do you know them?” she asked.
“I do. Do you feel like getting them back for tormenting you?”
He let his fingers slide off her arm but he leaned close to her. She leaned in close to him too.
“What did you have in mind?”
---
Jon and Damian watched, laughing as Marinette approached Jason. They expected to have an epic reaction from both of them to leave them with a story to tell in the future. But when Marinette reached out for Jason and didn’t pull away they didn’t know what to think. The two leaned close and seemed to be talking. They couldn’t see Marinette’s face, but Jason looked pretty serious. They hadn’t expected him to be very angry but maybe he was telling her off. Maybe they should have made it a comment to him rather than actually touching him even if it was a rather innocuous action.
They quickly decided he wasn’t angry and was possibly hitting on their friend when he reached over and pulled her close to him. Marinette went willingly and rested her weight against his thigh while he put his arm around her and the other he motioned for a waitress so they could order drinks. Marinette didn’t look back to see them at all. She continued talking close to Jason, and he was just as engaged with what Marinette was saying. They waited around trying to decide whether to go pull her away to hang out with them again but she didn’t use the signal that she wanted a rescue so they didn’t think she would be grateful for the interference.
---
“Are they still watching?” Marinette asked.
“Yeah. But they are trying to not be obvious about it.” He leaned down close to whisper in her ear. “Do you want to give up or do you want to up the ante?”
“I’m having too much fun to give up now.”
“Glad you think I’m such a good time.”
“Very funny. They always get me with dares. Its about time I got them back for it.”
“Well, I’m all for it. Did you want to leave with me?”
“I think you may have the wrong impression about what is going to happen here.”
Marinette pushed back from him slightly.
“I don’t have the impression that anything is happening after. But I would help you give them the impression. I am the delinquent brother after all.”
“So we would just walk out the door together as a joke.”
“Its all up to you. We could give them a show and stumble out together or just exit together and call them to meet you out there.”
Marinette considered carefully for a bit. She still thought it was unfair of them to enforce the challenge when she was fresh off a plane. Both of them had had a relaxing day before going out where as Marinette was still on Paris time and off a 9 hour flight. She made her decision and then moved in on Jason before she could back out. If he was shocked he didn’t show it. She held onto his collar while his hand slid to the back of her head. She was almost sorry that their kiss was far more chaste than it appeared to those around them. It was also far too brief. Jason just waited until her friends watched in shock before they separated and he took her by the hand and they left the bar.
The car he had called was already waiting so they were in it and off before they could be followed out. The other 2 would have to call a car still before following after them. Marinette laughed in the back of the cab and Jason grinned back at her. She recognised Damian’s house when they got there. It made sense that he would know that was where she was staying.
It was barely five minutes after Marinette and Jason arrived before Jon and Damian burst into the room they were in. Marinette had set the scene when she heard them rushing their way so her hair was partially pulled down and she had her legs resting over Jason’s. His arm was around her on the back of the couch and they had a movie started.
“Hey, did you guys want to watch a movie with us?”
They tried to act put out by the turn of events but after a moment they laughed at the turn of events. They joined the other two on the couch, but from that moment on they never made Marinette do another dare.

Day 2, July 6th Protection
“For the last time, I don’t need protection!” Marinette screamed at Jason.
///
Red Hood and Red Beetle were the first ones to return after patrol. They were silent, an unusual occurrence for the vibrant pair. The silence was uncomfortable.
“So are we going to talk about it?” Jason finally asked taking off his mask.
Marinette looked at him like he had all the audacity in the world. She clearly didn’t want to discuss the events of patrol. After all, she felt Jason was treating her as a child. Again. An occurrence she felt was happening all too often.
“There’s nothing to talk about, Jason.”
She said his name. Not Jay Jay, Hood, or even just Jay. She had said, Jason. He was in deep shit.
“Obviously there is, for fuck sakes you almost got shot!”
“It’s happened before, and it’ll happen again.”
“Not like this, you’ve never been that close. This isn’t France, your suit might be reminiscent of your Ladybug suit. But it’s not the same. It isn’t invincible. So excuse me if I’m going to protect you.”
“For the last time, I don’t need protection!” Marinette screamed at Jason.
It was a great time for the rest of the Bats to arrive and hear Marinette’s last remark.
“If you two are sleeping together I sure hope you’re using protection,” Red Robin said in the entryway.
Marinette had already been pissed. And after what Tim had said she was enraged. Today she was done with everyone's shit.
“Shut the fuck up Tim, for the last fucking time Jason and I aren’t together. So you can stop with the stupid sex remarks. And get your own fucking life. Actually, all of you can do that. Get a life and stop worrying about me. I didn’t start this shit yesterday. I’ve been doing it since I was thirteen.”
Everyone was staring at the french women. They all knew what she said was true, after all, she had explained it countless times, in much nicer ways. But this was different. This was direct and sometimes direct was the only way to get through to them. While they finally understood, they were also terrified of the tiny women yelling.
Marinette saw the slight fear in their eyes when she realized what she had done.
“Fuck, I’m sorry. I didn’t- No I did, I meant every word of it. I just didn’t mean to say it like that. I need you guys to stop treating me like a kid.”
Everyone nodded.
Tim muttered, “I’m sorry,” before he shuffled out of the room.
And everyone else followed his lead, quickly apologizing and then leaving. Everyone except Jason who was the last one standing. He had been quiet the whole time, waiting. He waited for a moment alone with her.
When he finally got it he said, “Shit I’m so sorry Mari.”
One look into his eye and Marinette could tell he was sincere as always.
“I know Jay. I shouldn’t have snapped like that.”
“No, I deserved it. I promise I don’t see you as a kid. It’s just, you tell me all these horror stories about what it was like in Paris and I freak out, accordingly of course. I mean you have a grave- Sorry I just, I worry a lot. I don’t want to lose you Pixie.”
“Don’t worry, I’m not going anywhere. I promise.”
Jason hugged her and she hugged back.
There were footsteps, then Damian said, “Tt, now that you two have had your mushy friendship moment father still wants to debrief, so hurry up.”
“Did demon spawn just say ‘mushy friendship moment’?” Jason asked.
“I think he did,” Marinette giggled, “Well we better get ready for debrief, he’s going to have questions about the screaming match we had before muting the comms.”
“Oh shit. I forgot about that.”
The two joined Batman and co. in the other room for debriefing. When it got to their turn they shared a look. And with that look, they had a conversation that no one else in the room could understand.
It ended with Jason letting out a big sigh and saying, “Fine, I’ll explain. Well, she almost got shot by a mugger. And well we took him down. Then we fought, and I mean you heard most of that. But everything is good now. The guy is in GCPD custody. Now. Everything is fine.”
“That doesn’t sound-” Dick started, abruptly cut off.
Marinette grabbed Jason’s hand and said, “Well bye see you guys soon, we’re heading home.”
She left the room and Bruce just sighed.
“Those two will be the death of me.”
“They’re going to be the reason I go gray young,” Dick added.
“Dick you’ve been going gray since Damian arrived here, don’t act like this is a new development,” Tim joked.
“Drake is correct,” Damian said seriously, “Your gray hairs have significantly increased since my arrival three years ago.”
With that, the room emptied leaving Dick stuttering defending him to no one other than himself.

First Meeting
Yup. That's right. I'm participating in another one :)
Not going to be able to do most days though. And I'm late too, but, better late than never, right?
Enjoy~
@jasonette-july-2k20
------
Marinette leaned back on her chair, stretching her hands to make them feel once again.
She smiled in satisfaction. Another design brought to reality. Yes, it was brought to life at 2 AM, but time was only a social construct, it didn't matter.
Now all that was left, were the occasional thuds of a certain vigilante going about his patrol.
Thud.
She smirked. There they were.
She waited for another thud. The one that indicated he was leaving.
She frowned.
It hadn't come.
Why wasn’t he leaving? Was he injured? Having a super long conversation on his phone? Sweet talking his guns?
…Or maybe the sounds of boots weren't of the vigilante.
She groaned. She knew that the ‘thud’ was timed too perfectly with her thoughts!
She looked around, searching for a weapon. She needed one. And quick.
Ah, screw it. She could just punch him.
With gentle footsteps, she moved towards her balcony. Her hands made their way to the handle.
“You shOuld’nT havE proVokEd hiM. They say! TheN hE woUld’nT haVe slAshEd yOu witH hiS kaTanA. They say!” Her ears perked at the sound. Was it…mocking someone? “Fucking idiots.”
Click. Said the handle.
In a second, Red Hood’s helmet-free head whipped around to look at her, his gun already in his hand, pointing at her.
In the same second, Marinette's instincts kicked in and she was sending a hard punch his way.
He caught it.
They stared at each other, both equally bewildered.
Before the vigilante took back his hand. “Ow!” He was holding his hand. “What the hell is your hand made of?!”
She blinked. “I’ll tell you if you tell me why you’re still here and not going on with your patrol.”
He held her stare. “As you can clearly see.” He pointed at his jacket, which she now noticed was slashed at most places, “My most important asset has been a teensy bit ruined by a fucking demon.”
She couldn't help it. She laughed.
He looked at her, offended. “I’ve been given a makeover by the devil and you dare laugh?!”
“I’m sorry, really!” She was still laughing. “I just can't help it! Was it Robin?
“Who else?” He grumbled.
“Heh.” Her laughing had been reduced to small giggles now. “Maybe you should come in. I can fix up that jacket of yours.” She eyes his hand. “And, uh, give you a bandage for that hand?”
His eyes widened. “What-”
She pulled him inside, effortlessly taking off his jacket and moving towards her closet.
He shuffled in his spot, both too shocked and awkward to move.
She threw a similar jacket like his at him.
“I’d made similar costumes of Gotham's vigilantes a few weeks earlier.” She explained. “Never thought I’d be giving you this.”
He held the jacket up, staring at it in awe. “It feels just like the real thing! How?” He turned towards her with a curious gaze.
She shrugged. “I guess you could say I’m magic.” Her eyes twinkled with untold secrets.
He chuckled in reply. His eyes landed on a plate of croissants. “Croissants!”
“A midnight snack. Have one.” She grinned, amused as she noticed his eyes settling on the plate.
He didn't need to be told twice. He grabbed his first.
“Holy Batman!” He held up the croissant. “This thing is the second best thing I’ve ever eaten! You're an absolute angel!”
She would deny that she'd blushed a little. “I could leave some on the roof every night for you. You usually follow this path for your patrol, right?”
“What? You don't have to do that!” His stomach didn't seem to agree with his words though. It growled to state its displeasure.
“So, that means I'll be leaving croissants for you, right?”
He groaned.

Chapter 2
Chapter 1
Ladybug had been caught somewhere she shouldn't be, and this was confirmed by the click of a gun that she heard behind her. She slowly turned around, inch by careful inch she came face to face with the Red Hood. She could see the gun in his hand was pointing right at her, taking aim between her eyes. She slowly got to her feet, yes, this looked bad.  The explanation behind it, being that she was looking for the source of a magical presence that had the gods of creation and destruction on high alert...didn't help either. To him, this probably looked like a hero in a brightly coloured costume snooping around an infamous crime lord's warehouse. Ladybug could only nervously chuckle as she stared down the barrel of the gun.  She couldn't see the man’s face, just the harsh white lights on his red helmet that one would assume were meant to look like eyes.  "Looking for something?" It was hard to tell with the robotic sounding voice, but Ladybug could have sworn she heard a wry edge to the comment.
"I was," she said as she slowly got to her feet.  Her hands leaning on the edge of the crate behind her.  She tried to keep up her nervous smile, maybe he'll see that she didn't mean any harm. "But since you're here," she said slowly as her eyes darted towards the ceiling, and her pressed her hands down on the crate.  "I guess I'll be on my way." Ladybug pushed herself against the edge of the crate and kicked one of her legs up towards his gun arm, it fired and struck one of the sprinklers above them.  She ducked down and bolted ahead, readying her yo-yo as she made her escape.
As Ladybug made it out of the warehouse and into Gotham’s cold city streets, they both knew the pursuit would not end there.  The Red Hood continued to give chase as she swung away on her yo-yo. Whenever she managed to latch onto something, a grappling hook was never far behind.  She could do this all night, but she didn’t want to and sooner or later he would catch up to her.  She needed to hide and turn back into Marinette, and fast.  As she reached the twinkling lights and the bustle of Gotham’s Chinatown, she saw her chance to shake him off.
Ladybug slipped into the alleyway and had mere seconds to throw him off.  “Spots off,” she muttered. With a swirl of green light, she stopped looking like the former Parisian superhero and more like a small young woman.  Marinette dove into the crowd of people who were either making their way home or getting some warm late night comfort food.  Marinette glanced behind her to see the tall figure land surprisingly gracefully on the rooftop she leapt from moments earlier.  While he searched for a woman in a bodysuit, Marinette looked away and dusted off her pink chiffon dress.
She quickly walked back to her apartment, only stopping to get dinner. As far as everyone else knew, Marinette had come to Gotham to open a small fashion studio.  They didn’t know that Ladybug was here to continue to do good as a hero and as the Guardian of the Miraculous.  Well, at least in the sense that she was continuing to help people by night, while she ran a small boutique and designed clothes by day.  The tiny apartment was no bigger than a shoebox, but Marinette did everything in her power to make it comfortable.  She always made warm bread and sweet cakes in the tiny kitchen.  She had a thick soft futon on the few occasions she managed to get some sleep.  Her sewing machine, mannequin and drawing tablet were neatly sectioned off into one corner.  The tiny bathroom also had a bath she could submerge herself in, and there was a small shelf full of products that made her smell like a flower garden.  As Marinette stepped inside, there was one other thing she neglected to tell her family and friends about.  While Marinette toiled away at her commissions and designs, there was one person who was a constant presence in the apartment.  When she stepped inside and shrugged off her coat, he looked up from his spot atop the futon.  He had been reading a book that was roughly the size of Marinette’s head and leisurely turning the pages. “Busy day at the shop?” he asked. Marinette shook her head, “I was feeling hungry, so I went and got something to eat.” She set a takeaway bag down on the small dining table, taking out the small bento inside and offering it to him. One thing she neglected to tell the people back home in Paris about was the fact that she wasn’t alone in the tiny apartment.  She met someone shortly after arriving in Gotham, and that someone would often stop by the apartment, so often that he practically lived there. He was a guy who, on the surface, towered over her and looked strong enough to crush her into a coke can if he thought about it hard enough.  She was drawn to his kind eyes and gentle smile, and he had a fondness for literature that made him seem like he was more than just the tall brute people made him out to be.  That being said, he could still be intimidating towards other people when he wanted to be.
As her boyfriend ate the bento, Marinette slumped down on the futon.  She lay there quietly for a moment, her mind racing with thoughts about her encounter with the Red Hood.  She had heard whispers and rumours about him in the area.  People didn’t know what to make of him, but they were all certain that no one should cross him.  Ladybug had probably made herself a target by searching for something in one of his warehouses.  She couldn’t trust anyone else in Gotham to understand or make sense of it, nor did she want anyone else to get hurt because of it.  All she knew was that Tikki had been feeling an unsettling magical presence ever since they had landed in Gotham.  It was like a curse hung over this neighbourhood, possibly the whole city.  They even felt its presence in this very apartment.  They had always felt it from time to time, making a note to tug on the inside of Marinette’s sleeve when they felt it was particularly strong.
The spot on the futon next to Marinette dipped a little when her boyfriend finished his food. He was probably going to read a few more chapters of the book he was reading before she came home. “Jason,” she asked, her voice partially muffled by the bed sheets as she buried her face in them, “could you read me a story?”  Marinette felt his fingers brush against the top of her head, gently sweeping aside the lock of hair in her face.  As he softly read out the words on the page, she felt herself sink deeper and deeper into the futon, letting sleep take her.
Having read aloud the next few paragraphs of his book, Jason glanced down at Marinette, snoring softly beside him.  She looked completely and utterly at peace, she wasn’t plagued by nightmares of killer clowns or the agony of being dragged back into the land of the living.  As far as she knew, he worked at the Iceberg Lounge, she didn’t need to know that he owned the place.  She didn’t know that her colourful little apartment was probably the last place anyone would go looking for the infamous Red Hood.  She had heard of the Red Hood, heard stories of how he became Gotham’s most formidable crime lord.  She once said that she couldn’t imagine what would drive someone to do that.  Marinette once told him that Paris was under a long reign of terror. One where someone’s negative emotions made them a target for magic users who wanted to turn them into monsters.  She felt as though they were, usually, still people underneath.  In this case, they were people who were often being controlled and made to do someone else’s bidding.  She didn’t understand how someone could be driven to kill those same people.  So, Jason kept his other identity to himself. He kept telling himself that it was because he didn’t want to put a target on her back. Ever since he returned from the grave, he fought with everyone he thought had once cared about him. Marinette had been the one thing that hadn’t been tarnished by his ordeal.
Jason almost never slept when he stayed over in Marinette’s apartment, last time he drifted off to sleep, he had a nightmare about being submerged in the Lazarus Pit.  He woke up to Marinette looking down at him with a very concerned look on her face.  Once or twice, he saw that same concerned look in her eyes when she noticed the scars that marked his body.  So while she slept, that gave him plenty of time to be alone with his own thoughts.
He remembered meeting Marinette for the first time in a small bookshop that he often frequented.  It was run by a charming old couple and Jason liked the place enough that he took extra care to make sure nothing bad happened to it.  As he looked through the shelves lined with books new and old, he spotted a peculiar sight a few sections over.  He saw a young woman that was about a foot shorter than he was, trying to reach a book that was just out of her reach on the shelf above her.  She looked around, unable to find a stool or step ladder to help her reach it.  She resorted to trying to climb the shelves, and only then did he think to go over and help the poor girl.
Her face was scrunched up in concentration as she got closer to the book that she wanted. Unfortunately, one of her feet also slipped, and she would have tumbled to the ground had Jason not been there to catch her.  The girl gave a startled squeak, before she looked up at him. He stopped and stared for a moment, she had inky black hair, a round heart-shaped face, and expressive eyes that drew him in. She glanced down at her feet, blushing with embarrassment over what had just happened.  Jason quietly chuckled, it was just too adorable.  He reached up and grabbed the book that she had been trying to reach, before handing it to her. “Th-thank you,” she stammered as she took the book from him “Don’t worry about it, just try and remember the shelves aren’t really for climbing,” he joked.
“Sorry, we can’t all be giants,” she retorted, “some of us just have to try and adapt.”
Jason glanced down at the book, trying to start a conversation that didn’t devolve into him mocking her short height.  “So what’s a young lady like you doing trying to reach for a book on knitting?” Jason asked.
“If you must know, I just opened up a boutique in the area,” she said, smiling warmly yet proudly, as if she hadn’t set up shop in one of the most dangerous cities on the planet.  Jason was surprised anyone would set up something as unassuming as a boutique in the area, unless it was a front for something a lot less glamorous.
“In Gotham, of all places?” Jason asked, her French accent didn’t go unnoticed. She clearly hadn’t been here long as her eyes still had a hopeful shine to them.  She’d probably feel more at home in Metropolis, though no self-respecting Gothamite would say that out loud. She tapped her chin thoughtfully as she looked through the other shelves, seemingly undeterred by the slight surprise in Jason’s voice.
“Yes,” she said, “plan to try and scare me away?”
“Around these parts, there’s probably no one scarier than me,” Jason was only half joking this time.
“I’m shuddering with fear,” she retorted sarcastically, Jason knew she wouldn’t be laughing if she knew the things he’d done just last week.
“Well, if you do decide to stick around, Gotham might actually get some sunshine this year,” he was about to turn and walk away, to squirrel this fun little back and forth in the back of his mind somewhere. Maybe it would be a funny memory, the kind that would make him smile, at least on the inside.
As he was about to walk out of the little book store,  rapid footsteps trailed behind him and a card was stuffed into his hand.  Jason stopped and looked down at the card, before glancing at the young woman who gave it to him.  “Come by the shop sometime, it would be nice to see a familiar face,” she suggested, with a hopeful glow in her eyes that Jason couldn’t bear to say no to.
Jason glanced at the name on the card, “Marinette Dupain-Cheng, a pretty name for a pretty girl” he thought.
“Also, I never got your name,” Marinette scratched the back of her head, somewhat embarrassed at the realisation.
“Jason Todd,” he said, “I guess I’ll see around, Pixie.” With that, he turned and stepped out into the frosty streets.
Since that day, and the months that followed, Jason had managed to play the parts of the loving boyfriend and the brutal crime lord.  On occasion, the two sides came dangerously close to merging together.  Needless to say, there was a reason other crime lords didn’t come knocking on her shop door demanding protection money.
He came by once as the Red Hood, and this time he was met with Marinette having a much more guarded and serious expression on her face.  Her eyes didn’t miss his holstered guns as he walked into the shop. Him being here was more of a show of the business being a part of his territory.  "Can I help you?" She asked tentatively, her eyes watched him closely. He wondered if she was perhaps trying to gauge his personal style from the leather and Kevlar.
"This is just a social call, most people around here like to know who's in charge of the area," he explained.
"Is that so?" she said, "Is there anything I can do for you Mr…?"
"Call me the Red Hood," he bit back the urge to say much more than that, one wrong slip of the tongue could give away who he was under the mask. "And you are…?"
"Marinette Dupain-Cheng, or 'MDC' for short." Marinette handed him the same card she gave him at the bookstore.  This time she carefully placed it in his gloved fingers with both hands, as if she was worried he might bite her if she got too close.  There was a cold professionalism to it, he had to remind himself who he was as he stood before her.  The warm little boutique just got colder at that moment.
“So, nice place you got here,” he said, trying to make something resembling friendly conversation. Marinette tilted her head to the side, her eyes narrowing in suspicion. He could see her tense up at the remark, as though he was about to imply he would burn the place to the ground if she didn’t pay up.
Marinette stared silently at Red Hood’s attempt at small talk, her eyes darted between his mask, his hands and his guns.  He understood he had overstayed his welcome. “Glad we got this out of the way, see you around, MDC.” He gave a brief wave as he walked out.

Pixie
PROMPT- "pixie" | Day 9 | ??? (I have no idea, its more like a platonic ship. But it can escalate to more, like siblings. You decide.)
Jasonette July 2021
MASTERPOST
Marinette's body was destroyed after the final battle; having to hold both the cat and ladybug miraculous for a long time without making a wish. Her body couldn't hold all the power at the same time. She made a sacrifice.
To the world she died.
But in reality she was alive. True, her body was destroyed, but her soul didn't. She became a ghost floating around wandering throughout Paris. Protecting people from small stuff they wouldn't even notice.
For example, a person's pen fell into the ground, they bend down to pick it up, a moment later a truck passed in front of them. If they hadn't stopped to pick up the pen; then that person would be dead.
That was Marinette's job. She was the one that made the pen fall down.
She is still protecting people even though she isn't appreciated.
That's what made the kwamis agree on their decision. For their guardian. After all she did, she deserves this.
They can do this, they're gods.
They are going to give her a new body.
-
Marinette inhaled a large amount of air when she woke up.
She can breathe again.
Tears started to form into her eyes. She moved her hand to wipe it; but she only started crying more.
She can feel her skin.
She's full-out sobbing now. Not from sadness, but from joy.
She's finally alive.
She laughed. She just feels so happy. A large smile appeared on her face while tears streamed on her cheeks.
"Oh kwami," she says while crying-laughing. "I'm back."
-
To say she didn't like her new body is an understatement.
She absolutely LOVES her new body. She can finally fly around and play with the kwamis.
Sadly, she couldn't use her sewing machine anymore. But Tikki's gift to her is amazing! Summoning things with magic is amazing! But it takes a lot of energy to create one.
Her new body is finally capable of welding magic. Tikki said that with more practice she can master her magic skills. And if she's skilled enough; she can change her size to human size. But she didn't need that.
Marinette liked being small. She feels like an actual little fairy; like how her grandma calls her.
Maybe she is a fairy; she can fly and do magic. The only thing that's missing is the wings.
Marinette twirled her self-made dress, smiling to herself as she finally made something with her hands. She will be forever grateful for the kwamis. They gave her a second chance in life. Now, she can continue to do what she likes; designing.
As an exchange, she will continue to help the people.
But Paris doesn't need her anymore. So Marinette decided to help the people around the world. She traveled to negative places around the world, with the help of the kwamis.
That's how she made it into Gotham. And oh boy, this place absolutely needs fixing.
-
Marinette is currently at crime alley; placing food anonymously at a selected place. Marinette has been doing this for the past two weeks; sneaking food for the street children so they wouldn't starve.
It broke her heart to see all these children, without food and shelter, doing wrong things just to survive. So she did her best to help them. Giving them warm meals and some supplies.
So far, nobody knew it was her giving them food.
She heard a loud thump of boots landing on the cement. She froze.
Almost nobody...
"Huh, I never expected this," a deep voice said behind her. She turned around to see her witness, raising her hands in the process.
Red Hood. Crap, I should have known. I'm surprised it took so long for him to take action; I'm invading his territory.
Crap. Crap. Crap. What should she do. Sweat dripped from her forehead. Think Marinette think!
Act dumb.
"Uhhh, hello Mr.. Red Hood... Pleasedon'tshootmeijustcameback!" Red hood tilted his head in response; processing what she said.
Stupid Marinette. You don't just say those to random people!
Red hood noticed the guns he was holding and placed them back to their holster. "Woah- pixie, I ain't gonna shoot ya, calm down." He raised both of his hands above the air, "See, no guns."
Marinette took a moment to breathe. Successfully calming her nerves. Hopefully she can make a civil conversation with him. She composed herself and faced him confidently.
"I am sorry Mr.. Red hood for coming into your territory without permission, but please just let it slide for the sake of the children." she said looking straight into the helmet. She bit her lip and added, "They need someone to take care of them."
-
This is a WIP, I really like the idea of this story and it got a little longer haha. This is just the introductory phase. How they meet. I am currently writing the part-2 that I can probably post tomorrow.

As soon as Marinette, Jason, and his family had entered the ramshackle hamlet, they all could tell without a doubt that there was something not quite... right about the place.
Even in the dying light of the day, it was obvious that every window and door were boarded up. A few even had stone or iron bars nailed or soldered across any and all potential points of entry—chimneys included. Some buildings were half-collapsed beneath the weight of their own rotting timbers, others looked unnaturally clean and newly constructed, most however were somewhere between the two extremes. But regardless of how new or decrepit the buildings appeared, each and every single one had at least some form of large scratching or claw marks gouged into the wood and stonework.
The first thing the Wayne family and Marinette had all agreed upon, was acquiring rooms for the night from the only inn in the hamlet. One of the nicer buildings albeit, but just as foreboding in its own sense due to the deeper and more extensive scratch and claw marks along the exterior.
Inside, the innkeeper was undoubtedly strange, eyeing them each with an odd look in his eyes, and an empty grin. Giving him an off-putting appearance that certainly wasn't helped by his slow and methodical cleaning of kitchen knives, from just behind the bar.
Wheezing, the innkeeper tilted his head to one side, staring the family of six down. Voice like gravel, he rasped. “Tread carefully 'round these parts, travellers. There's been tales of your kind vanishing in the dark, followed by the howls.”
“Our kind? What do you mean by our kind?” Dick questioned sharply, narrowing his eyes and subtly curling his hands into fists by his sides—hidden by his deep blue cloak.
“The howls? What howls?” Tim asked curiously, a few seconds after Dick, eyes twinkling with the thrill of a mystery to unravel.
The innkeeper chuckled. “Curious lot, aren't you. I'm afraid that won't do you any good 'ere.”
“Is that a threat?” Bruce rumbled, adjusting his pose ever so slightly to put himself between his four sons plus pseudo-daughter in law, and the innkeeper. So that should anything happen, he would be first in the line of fire instead.
“Not if you pay for rooms tonight, stay quiet, and watch yourselves from straying in the dark.” The innkeeper replied, still grinning emptily as his chuckled subsided.
Tim ducked around Bruce's side to stare at the innkeeper. “You didn't answer our other questions! What do you mean by our kind and why did the previous travellers disappear followed by howls! How did you know that the howls follow disappearances?”
The innkeeper pulled out a whetstone and began sharpening the knives without looking, as his gaze snapped to Tim. “I only answer questions from paying customers, boy.”
“Father! I do not wish to stay somewhere as suspicious as this contemptible establishment.” Damian hissed, keeping his voice low as to avoid the hearing of the innkeeper, and tugged on the edge of Bruce's black cloak.
Jason edged a hand towards the hilt of one of his flintlocks. He leaned closer to Marinette to whisper in her ear. “For once, sweet priestess, I'm with the demon spawn, I don't want to stay here any longer than strictly necessary. This wretched fucking place reeks of ancient necrotic magic.” He wrinkled his nose before adding, “and not your goddess' other half's kind of ancient necrotic magic.”
Marinette frowned, glancing around the inn with ill ease. “I can feel what you mean, my dear knight. Whatever is causing the necrotic magic is definitely not holy by any means. But as far as I can tell, the magic was stronger outside, it's almost muted somewhat in here.”
“Forgive me, sweet priestess, but that doesn't ease my nerves at all.” Jason scoffed.
She rolled her eyes with a quiet snort of laughter, “I wasn't trying to, my dear red hooded knight.” She steeled herself slightly, mirth fading, “though what I am suggesting, is that we purchase rooms for the night. Whatever the source of the magic, we're most likely safer in here than out there. There are no claw marks on the inside after all.”
“For the record, I hate when you're right about these things, my holiness.” He growled, glancing around to confirm her statement.
“You say that as if I hate it any less than you.” Marinette countered, “now let's go intervene before another impending scuffle gets us kicked out of what is possibly our only safe shelter for the eve.”
“And miss out on free entertainment? I cannot believe you.” Jason snickered.
She shoved him good-naturedly before striding past Bruce and up to the counter, imposing in her own right even in comparison to the rest of the family. She cleared her throat to draw attention to herself and stared down the innkeeper with all the sharpness of a storming sea upon rocks. “You will answer all our questions if we purchase rooms, correct?”
The innkeeper squinted at Marinette. “Aye, girl.”
She pursed her lips then nodded. “How much for lodgings then?”
“We've got a room with a double bed, three with a single, and two twin rooms.” The innkeeper responded, empty grin curling into something more twisted, “The singles are a gold each per night, the rest are two gold each per night.”
“That pricing is outrageous!” Damian scowled.
Narrowing her eyes, she ignored Damian and hummed. “I see,” she glanced back at Jason and raised an eyebrow.
He nodded in return.
“Then I will purchase the room with the double bed.” She stated, plucking two gold coins from her purse and placing them upon the bar counter.
The innkeeper nodded, sliding two keys over to her. “Excellent choice, my lady, your room is on the left at the very end of the corridor upstairs.”
Jason prickled at the addressing title given to her, gripping the hilt of the gun he had reached for with whitening knuckles.
Marinette picked up the keys and stared coolly at the innkeeper before taking a few deliberate steps back until she was once more beside Jason. There, she handed him one of the keys.
Silence permeated the room for a minute as the rest of the family communicated through glances and facial movements alone.
Bruce sighed, breaking the stalemate, and placed four gold coins on the counter as well. “We'll take two singles and a twin as well.”
The innkeeper chuckled, passing four more keys over. “Wise decisions, Traveller. The twin room is the last door on the right along the corridor upstairs, and the two singles are the first two doors on both sides.”
“Now answer our questions,” Dick demanded.
The innkeeper glowered at Dick. “What I meant by your kind, was that you're the kind of folk who trouble follows. The travellers that poke their noses where they don't belong. And as for the howls, I wouldn't know. I've never seen what makes it because I stay inside where it is safe. Those who don't stay inside... well their screams, remaining bloody streaks, and disappearances are evidence enough for me.”
Marinette grimaced. “I am going to retire to the room now.”
Jason startled at her words and stared at her concern. “I'll, uh, join you. If you don't mind.”
“You don't have to for my sake.” She responded.
“It would ease my conscience if you weren't to go up alone.” He grit out.
She bowed her head for a second, “then your company would be most appreciated.” She began to make her way towards the stairs up to the rooms.
Before she reached the first step, the innkeeper called out. “My apologies, my holy lady, I did not intend to discuss such gruesome conversations before you that would offend your delicate holy constitution.”
“I appreciate your concern, however, I think you will find it was not my delicate holy constitution that was offended, as much as it was the wish for some privacy after a long and tedious journey. Thank you very much.” She spat in response, voice as acetic as an alchemist's corrosive acid.
The innkeeper raised his hands in a placating manner. “My sincerest apologies then, my lady.”
Marinette took that as a cue to continue upstairs, with Jason on her heels.
Once they reached the door, Jason snarled. “How dare that fucking bastard call you his lady, I'm going to put a bullet through his fucking skull.”
She sighed and went up onto her tiptoes so that she could place a kiss on his lips. “Perhaps wait until after we sort out the cause of the ancient necrotic magic plaguing this place. Though I'd like to rip his tongue out his mouth before you get to have your fun.”
Jason unwound marginally beneath the kiss, his fury was still palpable, however. “Hmm, I would like to watch you do that, my love.”
“Of course you would. Now, let's enjoy some much-needed privacy together. As much as I adore your family, there is only so much time spent travelling I can spend with them without wanting some peace and quiet to cherish you, my knight.” She remarked, opening the door with the key in the meantime.
———
Lounging upon the double bed, Marinette hummed as she gently carded her fingers through Jason's hair—his head resting on her lap and a soft smile gracing his face as he gazed up at her.
She paused her humming, face creases in mild displeasure, as a loose lock of her hair fell across her face. After a few half-hearted attempts to blow it out of the way, she closed her eyes and sighed—fingers twitching to a stop.
Jason raised an eyebrow and reached a hand up to her face, cupping her cheek for a few moments before tucking the loose lock of her hair back behind her ear. “Something on your mind, sweet priestess?”
“Ah. No, not really, no. I was just…” She sighs, lips twisting with faint distress, her earlier mask of determination faltering in the privacy of their room. “I'm worried about you. About this place. It's not safe and I'm worried if we fight anything here, whether it be the cause of the howls, a godforsaken Akuma, or even those creepy fanatics again, you're not going to make it—survive another close call.” She inhaled sharply. “I dread to think that should it come to it, the resurrection rituals won't work for you any longer.” Tears springing to her eyes as she voiced her doubts.
Jason frowned, “Oh,” He fumbled for words, shifting himself up into a sitting position so he could properly cup both sides of her face, and pull her into a gentle kiss on the lips. Pulling back, he took a deep breath, “oh, my holiness. Oh, my love. As long as I've been by your side, you've never let me fall, and your goddess and her pantheon don't seem like they'll let me die anytime before you. Not after the deal we struck, and I promise you, my priestess, that I don't intend on ever breaking that deal.”
“I know my knight, I know.” Marinette mumbled, tugging Jason into a tight hug as soon as he pulled away from the kiss, “but will there be a choice? Have you not forgotten your revival sickness we've yet to find or create a cure for? And not to mention the rumours about what has happened to the others who were also brought back by that awful Lich!”
Grimacing, he idly rubbed the back of his neck. “How could I fucking forget, I've hurt everyone I care about, especially you, thanks to that…”
She hummed once more. “And yet, none of us blame you for that, my love.”
“You should.” He argued weakly.
“I will never!” She retorted.
Their conversation lulled as they relished in the other's embrace.
Minutes passed before Marinette pulled away from the hug. She huffed, fingers twitching and nose scrunching up. “Jason, my red hooded knight, and love of my life.”
Jason squinted at her, “Yes…?”
“Wou— Can— What if I—.” She frowned, searching for her words, before settling on words she knew by ritual. “It would ease my mind if you were to be bestowed with some form of protection magic. Would you accept such a blessing from me?”
He remained silent for a few moments. “Of course I would, sweet priestess. I trust you, and I trust your goddess and her pantheon.” He closed his eyes and glanced away. “But shouldn't you save that magic for yourself, or when we're out in the fucking fray.”
“My powers will replenish come dawn, and the protection will last until then. I'd rather be certain in knowing you'll be safe whilst we sleep here.” Marinette answered, leaning forwards to cup his face in her hands.
Jason opened his eyes and looked back over at Marinette. “Alright,” he reluctantly conceded, “but only if it can also be applied to you.”
She stared at him then rolled her eyes, the corners of her lips twitching upwards in amusement. “I shouldn't have expected any answer but that from you. Luckily I've still got enough divine power to cast those two protection wards on the both of us.”
“Good!” He grinned cheekily.
Rolling her shoulders, Marinette mentally went over the incantations that would be used in this specific warding. She locked eyes with Jason and tilted her head to the side, “you first my knight.”
Squinting at her suspiciously for a few seconds, he eventually relented and shrugged. “As long as you've got enough divinity to protect yourself after, my holiness.”
“I will, trust me.” She responded, closing her eyes for a brief second before muttering the ancient celestial words of the language of the guardians. Her eyes filled with holy light, glowing like two sparkling suns. Whilst her hair began to shimmer and float as though underwater in sun-dappled waves. Swiftly she made an elegant hand gesture as continued to murmur the incantations. The shimmer in her hair and glow of her eyes flared for a split second as her words and hand gestures crescendoed, before flickering out like a snuffed candle.
As the golden radiance faded from Marinette, a similar golden glow began to settle around Jason. That too faded but a split second after appearing.
“Your powers never cease to amaze me, my holiness,” Jason murmured, staring at where the soft golden glow had radiated around him. Carefully he moved to hold her hands in his own so that he could press gentle kisses to them.
She giggled, blushing profusely. Although a smirk formed on her lips at his words. “Oh? Then where was this adoration of yours, my knight, when I magically mended those noble finery clothes of yours that were so unfortunately ripped just the night before we were to attend a masquerade, hmm?”
“Hey! Fucking–! Argh!” Jason sputtered for a second and then twisted around to grab a pillow from the bed, throwing it at Marinette. “Just cast the fucking protection ward on yourself!”
Marinette cackled as she fell back against the bedding from the impact of the pillow. She dramatically threw an arm over her face and cried out in mock distress, “oh no, oh dear! It would seem I have been most verily betrayed by mine own knight who was sworn to protect me, and yet! Here I lay, bloodied and betrayed! The world is fading from my grasp, I see the light of my goddess and her pantheon beckoning! Oh, whatever shall I do?”
“It would seem my last assassination attempt failed, sweetest priestess. Fear not! I shan't fail you again.” He declared equally as theatrically, grabbing the other pillow and throwing it at her as well.
“Ah! I have perished. What a shame, I am unable to cast that protection ward on myself now. Oh no!” Marinette continued, flopping onto her side and sticking out her tongue in mock death.
Jason snorted, “My assassination may have succeeded, but I cannot live with myself in this world without my love any longer. With this knife,” He stole back one of the pillows, “I shall perish besides the light of my life! Bleh.”
He flopped against the bedding beside her, a few seconds passed before the two of them burst into more laughter.
A few more moments passed before he elbowed her lightly. “Come on, your turn!”
Marinette wheezed and waved a hand, muttering the incantations between breaths. The radiance glowed around her, eyes and hair glimmering as they did before. Then as she reached the end of the incantations once more, it all faded away again. “Happy?”
“Indubitably, my love.” He responded.
She pressed a quick kiss to his lips. “Good!”

Thank you for reading! I hope you enjoyed this little fic! Comments, likes, and reblogs are much appreciated!
Fun fact: this was supposed to be longer but I wasn't happy with how the last part was going and so I cut it. So if people enjoy this one, well I'll just have to finish the follow-up piece to this fic, won't I. Ironically the part that was cut got more into the gothic horror and the main reason behind the title but I decided to focus on the romantic fluff as the end point instead. Flowed a little bit better.
This piece was inspired by a d&d campaign i joined for a few sessions. It was set in a creepy little hamlet with an incredibly creepy innkeeper who forced our party into signing a contract before we could spend outrageous amounts on gold just for a single night's stay. And uh turned out the dude was a demon we just sold our souls to, and then all but one of the party ended up leaving the inn to try our chances against the horrifying plague-like monsters outside, aka the whole reason we brought rooms in the first place!
Also feel free to send me any asks or comments with any questions you have regarding this fic, I’ll be more than happy to answer!

First Meetings
I really should have posted this a long long time ago but.............. oh well.
@jasonette-july-2k20
Sibling Jasonette
The first time he met Marinette he was pissed, she looked nothing like him! How dare she claim to be the daughter of his mother.
“Listen, little girl,” he snarled at the dark haired teenager who stood calmly in front of him, “I don’t care how you got that name but I do not have a sister.”
“Don’t the eyes match?” she asked emotionless, staring at him in a challenge. Jason was startled and took a better look at hers and felt the blood drain from his face. She was right, despite only meeting his mother for a short time he committed the face in his memory, the girl shared the same shaped rose lips, small nose, and shade of blue eyes that matched not only his mothers but his own.
“My father was another doctor in Ethiopia, I was five when Shiela died and I was sent to live with my biological father’s sister and her husband in France.” She took a deep breath, “look. You don’t have to believe me but I wanted to let you know, I think people deserve the decency to know these things.” She adjusted the strap of her backpack on her back and turned to leave. “I’m sorry you didn’t want me for a sister.” she says as she walks away.
Jason stands there for a moment, he doesn’t know if he wants to believe it, but she had proof on her face that held his mother’s features. Could she only be after him for his connection to Bruce? Was she really his sister?
Sister.
He had to make sure.
“Wait!” he stepped outside of his apartment and looked down the hallway the way she walked but she was already gone. He quickly shut his door and chased after her, letting his long legs bound over the running children down the hall. He skidded to a halt when he came to the reception desk.
“Did a teenage girl with black pigtails just walk out of here?” he shouts at Riley, the receptionist who nods vigorously noticing his panic. He runs out and looks around the small area, luckily he was taller than most people and could easily look over the heads of the few people who were around in the early morning. Unluckily she had disappeared just as quickly as she had appeared.
“Shit!”
“You know it’s not polite to curse.” Jason whipped around and found the girl was leaning against the wall with her arms crossed.
“You played me.”
She shrugged, “you wouldn’t listen to me and I wasn’t sure if you’d come down or not to be honest.” then she pushed herself off the wall and gave him a bright smile and laughed a little, completely different from how she was acting before at his door, “I am glad you came though!”
This girl was throwing him for a loop.
“How do I know you're telling the truth? And what do you want?” she gave him a quizzical look.
“We can do a blood test, and I don’t want anything from you!” she said as if it was the most scandalous thing. “I would never do such a thing, I just wanted to meet you.” she gave another, more soft smile, it was quite disarming and Jason got the distinct realization that this girl could be very dangerous.
---
The first time he met Ladybug he was quite confused. She was standing in front of him in the filthiest part of Gotham in a strange red and black polka dotted superhero spandex suit with thick brown accents. Just who did she think she was running around in that suit. He eyed her warily, she had a similar face shape as his sister except she was taller and had big brown eyes and white hair crafted into twin braided tails that fell down to her waist.
“Please, Red Hood.”
"Look. I don't know you, you could be some evil mastermind for all I care, and besides, I'm really not the person you should ask. Even if this all is real I have anger issues and hearing about this guy really fuels my desire to kill the bastard." He shakes his head and shrugs. "I don't know what to tell you, I'm not even the best detective, actually, I might be the worst out of the bunch." He turns to leave but the girl calls him back.
"Wait. You can help, I sought you out specifically, and you are also quite good at keeping secrets and this definitely needs to be kept a secret. We already know who is behind the mask but we need proof and that's where you come in. We need help, please, just think about it. I'll be here in two days at the same time for your answer. If you decide to help bring a bag with a few changes of clothes and whatever you need."
"I'll think about it."
She nodded and gave him a sad smile before turning and yelling, "voyage!" And stepping through a portal.
Weird. Well at least he’d be able to see his sister, she did live in Paris after all. For a moment he thought that Ladybug could be Marinette but shook his head she would have told him about bleaching her hair, not to say that she wouldn’t be the type to hero around but there was just no way, Jason wasn’t that unlucky.
---
Red Hood waited at the agreed upon spot with a duffle bag on the ground at his feet when the weird hero chick opened a portal and stepped through.
“Red Hood!” she says, relief passing through her features and she spots his duffle and looks at him with excitement in her eyes. “Have you decided to help?” she asks with a hopeful smile.
Red Hood grunts in response before threatening, “look, I don’t kill kids but if this is some sort of joke I might break my rules.” But instead of looking scared she sighed in relief, keeping her smile.
“Thank you Red.” Jason’s heart broke a little at the utmost gratitude from her voice, like no one ever bothered to help her when she asked for it. Before she could say another word the round thing on her hip beeped and when she opened it she grimaced.
“We have an akuma attack. Come on, I want you to watch but stay out of sight.” she called “voyage” again like last time and a portal appeared but she looked back at him and added, “please stay out of this fight, we have this handled and you will get in the way.” He nodded and they stepped through.
She had portaled them to the top of a tall building, it was nighttime in Paris when it was dusk at Gotham  and in the distance he saw the Eiffel Tower getting picked up by a giant kid who looked about six years old but was half the size of the Eiffel Tower itself that he just chucked. Behind the mask Jason's brows went high and his jaw dropped.
“Don’t worry,” the girl reassured him. “Gigantitan isn’t too bad, just a poor kid who gets akumatized regularly. Dismount.”
“Dismo-?” Jason began but was caught off guard by the flash of teal colored light surrounding the girl. In place of the suit from before she stood in a mostly black suit with red and black polka dots covering her arms and torso, the bottom was black with a thick red stripe around her ankles and black under her forearms and palms. Her hair had changed to black with short pigtails and her eyes blue.
“What the f-”
“Stay out of sight, I’ll come back for you.” She pulled the round thing off her hip and started swinging it in a circle by a string, was that a yoyo?, and swung off after the giant baby child. Jason was slightly panicked, she just transformed in a flash of light and looked like his sister when they first met. Marinette had outgrown the pigtails and now usually wore her hair down, in braids, or in buns. And her eyes were blue. Jason shook his head of the thought, this Ladybug must have just made the pigtails popular, and plenty of people have blue eyes. He then ran after the hero to get a closer look without getting in the way.
He saw two more heroes trying to keep the monster contained when they converged to meet up with the Ladybug. He decided to get closer and leaped across the rooftops till he could see and hear the heroes working clearly but was also out of the way.
It was clear Ladybug was the leader, she barked orders while joining the fight as well. It was a quick win but the weirdest part wasn’t when the giant-baby-thing was enveloped in purple goo and shrunk to reveal a young six year old boy, it was when the girl tossed something in the air and a burst of little flying things came out of nowhere and magically fixed everything, including the destroyed Eiffel Tower. Jason was very confused. Sure he’d seen some crazy things over the years but that didn’t mean it was any less strange. He observed how they surrounded the boy and comforted him, soon the blonde haired man in the all black suit and cat ears gathered the boy in his arms and bounded away, likely taking the boy home. The black spotted hero with her third partner, pointing to the place he was told to stay and they both sprouted wings and flew in that direction.
“Hey!” he called out, stepping into the light. The two heroes looked over and started in his direction. They landed softly on the roof and their wings disappeared into wisps of white smoke.
“Red Hood I told you too-”
“I know, I know, I just wanted to get a better look. I think I need a lot more explaining.”
The leader nodded then gestured to her partner, “this is Hornet, Hornet, this is Red Hood.”
He looked her over as she did him, her suit was mostly black as well, her torso was black with burnt yellow along the seams in honeycomb shapes and in the same color she had several diagonal lines down her legs. She also had a mask like his though it resembled a bee’s head.
“Nice mask,” Hornet commented, her voice wasn’t muffled as it should have been and Jason nodded his thanks.
“Yours is a lot cooler.” He paused for a moment then continued, “I know it’s late here so we can meet up some other time so you kids can get some rest, I can have an explanation later.” Ladybug’s eyebrow quirked up but she nodded.
“Thanks. Hornet will lead you to the hotel you’ll be staying. Don’t worry, it’ll be safe, no one will find your identity.”
---
The second time he met Marinette, well, let’s just say the magic that conceals the identities of the Miraculous holders did not work on Jason.
I did a second part that technically follows this and explains how Mari and Jason are related
