#Jewish pluralism

So hey, in case anyone on Jumblr organizes “pluralistic” Jewish programming that is meant to be inclusive of Jews from any movements… please remember that being inclusive means making activities accessible to those who are halachically observant?
Because it is so frustrating and painful, as someone who believes in the value of pluralism and wants to connect with Jews both like and unlike me, to be repeatedly slapped in the face with the realization that 90% of the time I cannot participate in most non-Orthodox-specific Jewish communal opportunities because of my Judaism.
The food isn’t kosher, the bonfire is in the middle of Shabbat, the party conflicts with Megillah reading, Havdalah is hours before sunset…
And though I doubt it’s usually coming from a place of deliberate exclusion, the message it sends regardless of intent is You are not wanted.

I believed this happened a couple of years ago? But I'd thought it was a very peculiar experience for me to share.
So, I used to be in this traumagenic server with what seems like a lot of blacklists and claims to be POC friendly. It was one of our few DID/OSDD focused discord servers that we joined when we first suspected we have DID. (We got diagnosed a year later.)
I remembered being in a ticket with one of the mods because they looked at the names of our alters through pk. They then LITERALLY did some google research on the name origins and made it something like this.
" Hi! We noticed your names may be considered cultural appropriating blablabla
Casey = Irish
Ari = Jewish
Please consider changing your names!"
And then had the nerve to even ask me what my race is, but I felt so uncomfortable?? I said Asian. They want me to specify further. I said Southeast Asian. And if my memory serves me right, they wanted me to specify more than that.
When I looked at that message where I had to change my own and my alter's names, I felt like they were JOKING?? HOW IS CASEY A CLOSED NAME??? It's.. a generic name used by pretty much everyone in the world.
They mentioned how Irish is a closed culture, and I think they mentioned Irish discrimination during the US immigration and all. I understand, but at the same time, Irish itself isn't a closed culture at all?? Not to mention, I've been using Casey as my name for quite some time now.
Ari being linked to Jewish makes no sense to me either. People sometimes use it to shorten the name 'Ariana' for short, but I also see many non-Jewish people also using that name too.
Ari is an alternative spelling of our body's name, so we don't feel weird using our irl body's name (which is Arabic) to the people online. It's not a sense of shame of the body's name but more privacy concerns, easier pronounciation, and having our own individuality.
It's worth mentioning that a lot of Muslim and Christian names are derived from Judaism, too. The Muslim and Christian names just have a different spelling to it, so I don't know what the hell they were thinking.
I felt so mad and felt this was all too ridiculous. I had to keep my cool and leave because what kinda server is this??? That claims to be POC safe?? I'm sorry if I don't sound the most open-minded, but it's just a weird experience to me, really. When I think of cultural appropriating, I would think of taking a name from, let's say, a Romani name or a Tamil name, and then use it without realizing the significance of that culture just because it looks pretty for some aesthetic. Not whatever tf this server was pulling.
As an Irish system, what the fuck?? Casey is definitely not a "closed culture Irish name," LMAO?? You're not overreacting DW anon, that's just wild.

Hey! This is a server for Jewish systems to talk about being Jewish, being plural, navigating antisemitism and ableism, and how those things interact. - Systems who are bodily Jewish or are collectively in the conversion process are always allowed. Individual Jewish headmates are only allowed if they've spoken to their rabbi about the process. Jewish singlets with ties to systems are allowed, if they're aware they aren't the priority. - Introjects of all kind welcome, although historical figure factives might be slightly complicated for obvious reasons. We'll take that on a case by case basis, if it comes up. - Syscourse neutral. Respect what other people say about their own experiences, even if you don't believe it. - Role locked to prevent antisemitic trolling. - Safe space to process feelings on controversial subject (yes, including that one) ONLY for those willing to not dehumanize others. - 13+. No nsfw channel, unless there's a need for one.

Here’s some positivity for Jewish systems!
All sorts of diverse systems are what make the plural community a rich space full of all sorts of folks with different experiences. Of course, this absolutely includes Jewish systems!! This post is for all you Jewish systems out there!
Shoutout to Jewish systems who view their multiplicity through a religious lense, or whose Judaism had a direct impact on their system!
Shoutout to Jewish systems who struggle with antisemitism and/or inter-generational trauma!
Shoutout to Jewish systems who are devoutly devoted to their religion, and whose Judaism is a core part of their system’s identity!
Shoutout to Jewish systems who are secular, atheists, or otherwise non-religious but still Jewish!
Shoutout to Jewish systems who are anti-occupation, and fight for the rights of other marginalized people even when it’s hard or unpopular!
Shoutout to Jewish systems who have converted to Judaism, and to those who are in the process of converting!
Shoutout to Jewish systems who live in Palestine, Lebanon, Jordan, Syria, Egypt, and those who have grown up in refugee camps!
Shoutout to Jewish systems who love their religion, heritage, and cultural traditions!
Shoutout to Jewish systems who strictly follow Halacha, and to those with a more relaxed approach!
Shoutout to Jewish systems who are rabbis (or rabbis-in-training!), cantors, elders, or other members of synagogue, temple, or Jewish leadership!
Systems of all religions and faiths are important and welcome members of the plural community. Jewish systems provide a rich and beautiful perspective to the our community - thank you so much for sharing this space with us. We care for you, and want to support and uplift you!
Please continue to take care of yourself, your system, and your loved ones. We hope that, if you want it, you will be able to foster a wonderful relationship with your God, your system, your community, and the world we live in! And we wish you a future of joy, peace, wonder, and self-acceptance!

Thinking about Jewish characters and actors in the Boys.
In the Boys, superheroes were created by a Nazi (Frederick Vought) in an effort to make a master race. In reality, the Boys as a show is built on the legacy of Jewish people like Stan Lee and Jack Kirby.
To say nothing of the fact that the Nazi's wife (Klara Risinger/Stormfront) is played by a Aya Cash, a Jewish woman. Whether or not you want to incorporate this fact into canon or not is up to you.
Stormfront never actually expresses an issue with Jewish people. We see a lot of racist sentiments, specifically antiblack speech, but we never see any antisemitism.
Kevin Moskowitz/The Deep is presumed Jewish because of his last name and his holiday film "Light the Menorah." Beyond that, however, there has been no in-universe confirmation. Translucent, on the other hand, is canonically confirmed as Jewish, and this is never acknowledged beyond a bar mitzvah photo at his funeral. His holiday film is actually a Christmas movie called "Ghost of Christmas Fury."

Fun thing about being a jew dating a Mexican, there's barely any kosher food in their house- like individual pieces of food like meats or veggies by themselves?? Sure. But like.. left-overs?? No- whenever we're at his house his dad is always like "Why would you bring him over today! We're having something pork based!" And then sends our bf to the store to pick something up so he can make food for us too. It's so funny to us that his family is so supportive in such an aggressive way.
Fun fact though! We can eat the tacos and fajitas when they have them because thankfully they don't put cheese on them! (They just- have to make beef for us if they're having pork, hehe)

Lorenzo is still in front so that consistency is comforting at least. now my only question is do I have to keep up with his traditions? bc Ik jewish people fast and do things on certain holidays.

i really will never understand people who don’t *heavily* question what they read in religious texts because i’m on chapter four of genesis (thanks Serial Reader app) and already spent close to an hour googling questions where most of the links that come up are christian answer/analysis sites that literally say “Obviously, _____” and then something I don’t find obvious and is actually very debatable imo

As it is Passover again, it is time for the annual debate as to whether the frog plague, which thanks to a quirk in the Hebrew, is written as a plague of frog, singular, rather than the plural, plague of frogs, was in fact, as generally imagined, a plague of many frogs, or instead a singular giant Kaiju frog. This is an ancient and venerable argument that actually goes back to the Talmud because this is what the Jewish people are. If we can't argue for fun about this sort of thing, what are we even doing.
In that spirit, I would like to submit a third possibility, which is that in fact it was one perfectly normal sized frog, who was absolutely acing Untitled Frog Game: Ancient Egypt Edition. One particularly obnoxious frog, who through sheer hard work, managed to plague all of Egypt.

I had a weird and a bit funny dream I don’t remember much just that I was arguing and as I was waking up fork my dream I heard like an old man’s voice tell me “go get the rabbis” so I assume whatever I was arguing about needed to be solved by rabbis ig but I don’t remember what it was so the rabbis would be no help right now
