Known for its tender beef, rich wine-infused sauce, and aromatic blend of herbs, Beef Bourguignon has earned its place as a timeless comfort food. In this comprehensive guide, we'll explore the essence of Beef Bourguignon, delve into the essential ingredients that create its sumptuous flavour, provide step-by-step instructions on crafting this culinary masterpiece, and offer valuable quick tips for a delightful cooking experience. Let's dive into the Beef Bourguignon Recipe, where the art of slow cooking meets the heart of comfort cuisine.
What is Beef Bourguignon?
Beef Bourguignon, also known as "Boeuf Bourguignon" in French, is a classic stew originating from the Burgundy region of France. This dish features beef braised in red wine, typically Burgundy wine, creating a robust and flavorful sauce. Slow-cooked with an array of vegetables, aromatic herbs, and bacon, Beef Bourguignon embodies a perfect harmony of textures and tastes. This comforting masterpiece showcases the art of slow cooking, resulting in melt-in-your-mouth beef and a velvety, wine-infused sauce.
Important Ingredients:
1. Beef Chuck Roast:
- 2.5 to 3 pounds of beef chuck roast, cut into 2-inch cubes, for hearty and tender bites.
2. Burgundy Red Wine:
- 1 bottle (750 ml) of Burgundy or red wine, lending its rich flavour to the sauce.
3. Pearl Onions:
- 1 cup of pearl onions, peeled and left whole, adding sweetness to the dish.
4. Carrots:
- 4 large carrots, peeled and sliced, contributing natural sweetness and colour.
5. Bacon Strips:
- 4-6 strips of bacon, chopped, for smoky richness.
6. Garlic:
- 4 cloves of garlic, minced, enhancing the aromatic profile.
7. Tomato Paste:
- 2 tablespoons of tomato paste, providing depth and colour.
8. Beef Broth:
- 2 cups of beef broth, ensuring a savoury base.
9. Thyme and Bay Leaves:
- 2 sprigs of fresh thyme and 2 bay leaves, for herbal notes.
10. All-Purpose Flour:
- 1/4 cup of all-purpose flour for coating the beef.
11. Salt and Pepper:
- To taste, for seasoning.
12. Olive Oil:
- 2 tablespoons of olive oil for browning the beef.

Whose this smiley face? Meet Carol Cutler, a good friend to Julia Child, a fellow cookbook author and the wife of a traveling news reporter. 🇫🇷 When her husband’s career took them to Paris in the mid 20th century, Carol took a cooking classes with the Cordon Bleu cooking school and with Julia. These culinary experiences inspired her healthy, low-cholesterol cookbook written after and because her husband suffered a heart attack. ♥️ It was her mission to create gourmet meals just like they were used to enjoying in Paris minus just the extra calories and fat. ♥️ In 1973 her cookbook Haute Cuisine for Your Heart’s Delight was published and became a popular favorite among gourmet cooks. How did it fare for their overall health? Carol’s husband passed away in 2019 at the age of 94, so clearly her cooking worked some magic. ✨ . . . . . #paris #frenchfoodie #lowcholesterol #lowcalorierecipes #vintagecookbooks #1970style #healthylifestyle #juliachild https://www.instagram.com/p/CnkHPZsOCJw/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

#juliachild #cadernodecultura #cinemacomgustavoklein #grupotribuna #streaming #hbomax #culinaria #gastronomiafrancesa #thefrenchchef @atribunasantos @flaviaasantini @marcos_santini @rcsantini @ https://www.instagram.com/p/CgZYFmQgWcRBeYMiCiphVtKXBWt3PWsVZkVKDs0/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Who are these two people? Julia Childs and her husband, Paul, of course!! Julia Child was fearless at pursuing what she loved most - cooking, teaching, and eating! Like so many women of her generation, she did it despite no one taking her seriously. Her book publisher famously told her editor, “If you can sell a book with that title, I'll eat my hat!” And yet, Mastering the Art of French Cooking is still in print 62 yers later! And the local TV station which first aired her show, The French Chef, didn’t understand why people would tune in to watch anyone cook, but she went on to have a long, celebrated television career. So many of us in the cookbook world stand on her brave shoulders and so today of all days I thank her for her courage - and also for her Beef Bourguignon! My take on Julia’s iconic recipe: https://barefootcontessa.com/recipes/beef-bourguinon Photo by Paul Childs, VALENTINES: looking straight at camera, courtesy of Schlesinger Library, Harvard Radcliffe Institute. Tuna Salad with Julia and Grandma Grubaugh
It was strange. It was simple. It was visceral. One moment I was taking a bite of a tuna salad sandwich made with Julia Child’s recipe. The next instant I was a little boy sitting next to Grandma Grubaugh at her kitchen table having lunch. It hit me like a bolt out of the blue. A couple of my favorite benefits of our New York Times subscription are the food and cooking articles. The columns tell…

i fell down a youtube rabbit hole 'cause i found this channel and fell in love with it. i love watching recipe videos where the people aren't like 100% neat and tiddy and sometimes talk shit about the recipe when it don't make sense
honestly? i just wanted to recommend the jamie guy 'cause he's very entertaining and sincere and doesn't really scream or yell or do anything over the top. he talks very calmly and nonchalant but you can see the stress in his eyes lmao
if you liked "aries kitchen" on julien's channel and are kinda missing it 'cause it was fun to watch chaos unfold in a kitchen then... might i suggest "jamie and julia"? jamie follows along julia child recipes but he only uses her books "mastering the art of french cooking" vol 1 & 2
sometimes the recipes turn out great, sometimes they don't
it's very fun
