Ek lê my wapens neer
Vanaand vir die eerste keer
Sien ek myself in jou oë
Ek het hierdie oorlog verloor
Ek staar na die bloed op my hande
Ek weet ek het verander
Jy dink ek praat net weer
Ek het jou lief
Ek sweer
Geen pretensie
Geen beheer
Buite die stemme wat skater
Vriende wat groet
Sien jou later
Elkeen vind sy pad
Ek weet ek moet ook my skat
Hey, my sweet
Hey, my baby
Jy’s my toevlug
Wil jou nooit laat huil nie
Jy’s my lied
Jy’s my wysie
Ons het ’n hond
Ons het ’n huisie
Ek het genoeg gegee
Ek het genoeg geskree
Ek het lankal terug geleer
Maar nog steeds het ek probeer
Vlug soos ’n verraaierVan dit wat my vashou
Daar was monsters in die donker
Toe vind ek jou
Ek sweer
Geen pretensie
Geen beheer
7, so my mums afrikaans and since ive grown up in the UK ive always felt a bit disconnected until a few years ago she started to share some afrikaans music with me, older stuff like ddisselblom but something that really stuck was Afrikaners is Plesierig by Karen Zoid. Slaps on every level. Classic. "Its overplayed blablabla" idc. 10/10
10, One Direction, Jojo Siwa and Little Mix. Yep. The 10s were crazy ibr. I remember doing just dance to One Direction every day after school with my best friend. And when she loved Jojo Siwa later we used to practice tying her bow right everyday. Of those, I still listen to Little Mix sometimes, they were iconic. Some One Direction is still banger but i wouldnt have them on my playlist.
17, I dont usually hype myself up with music, but if i did i would put on my bimbocore playlist. Full volume. Maybe something batshit like emo boy

Kan jy my help hierdie na Engels vertaal? Ek wil dit vir my Afrikaanse student leer maar ek suck met vertaling. Die song is Toe Vind Ek Jou
Toe vind ek jou / Then I found you
youtube
Ek lê my wapens neer
Vanaand vir die eerste keer
Sien ek myself in jou oë
Ek het hierdie oorlog verloor
I lay my weapons down
Tonight, for the first time
I see myself in your eyes
I have lost this war
Ek staar na die bloed op my hande
Ek weet, ek het verander
Jy dink ek praat net weer
Ek het jou lief, ek sweer
I stare at the blood on my hands
I know, I have changed
You think it's all just talk [1]
I love you, I swear
Geen pretensie, geen beheer (x4)
No pretence [2], no controll (x4)
Buite die stemme wat skater
Vriende wat groet, sien jou later [3]
Elkeen vind sy pad
Ek weet ek moet ook, my skat
Outside, voices burst [with laughter]
Friends who greet, see you later [3]
Everyone finds their own way
I know that I must too, my dear
Hey, my sweet. Hey, my baby
Jy's my toevlug. Wil jou nooit laat huil nie
Jy's my lied, jy's my wysie
Ons het 'n hond, ons het 'n huisie
Hey, my sweet. Hey my baby
You're my refuge. Never want to make you cry
You're my song, you're my melody
We have a dog, we have a little house
Ek het genoeg gegee
Ek het genoeg geskree
Ek het lankal terug geleer
Maar nog steeds het ek probeer
I have given enough
I have shouted enough
I already learned long ago
But, I still tried anyway
Vlug soos 'n verraaier
Van dit wat my vashou
Daar was monsters in die donker
Toe vind ek jou
Flee like a traitor
from that which holds me back
There were monsters in the dark
Then I found you
Ek sweer, ek sweer!
Geen pretensie, geen beheer (x4)
I swear, I swear!
No pretence, no controll (x4)

Notes:
[1] literally: you think I'm just talking again
[2] "pretensie" can be either pretence or pretentiousness
[3] idk if this line is "Friends who greet [will] see you later" or "Friends who greet: 'see you later' " ?

As we all know that we can meditate through music and…
The Crossing – Johnny Clegg
Written for Dudu Ndlovu, one of Clegg’s dancers who was killed during the violence of the early 90’s, ‘The Crossing’ is a moving song and one of the standout tracks on ‘Heat, Dust & Dreams’ his album from 1993. On the face of it the song could be about crossing over from the land of the living to be with the ancestors, but, given the time this song was released, it was…
one time where i think that a cover may have been better than the original is karen zoid’s rendition of enter sandman. i was just thinking abt it now and it’s so good. it is combined with an afrikaans song, yes, but g o d
oh i haven't heard it- is it on the metallica blacklist?? i might give it a listen
Who’s a great Afrikaans musician? So far I’ve only had experience with Bok van Blerk and a fella called Parrrot
Well it depends on what your tastes are, but I avoid a lot of the mainstream pop singers since they’ve become increasingly generic over the past decade. I’d say Francois van Coke, Bok van Blerk, Robbie Wessels, Karen Zoid, Steve Hofmeyer, Theuns Jordaan, Mathys Roets, Johannes Kerkorrel and Koos Kombuis are the better veteran acts. Some newer ones that aren’t half bad include Refentse, Spoegwolf, Elandre, Christia Visser, Snotkop (his stuff is sometimes hit or miss), Jo Black and Bouwer Bosch (also hit or miss sometimes). I’m not a massive fan of Afrikaans “rap”, but Jack Parow is probably the most famous.
Hey so I’ve been following and reading along this Good Omens human au fic called Weeping by @sani-86 It was for the GOAumens event which I heard about too late, alas. I totally would’ve entered lol but anyways, its a good, very interesting take on a human au. And personally, its always very interesting and refreshing to see fics taking place somewhere else that isn’t as prevalent as others in fandom.
https://archiveofourown.org/works/24509140/chapters/59165197 <----you can read it here.
I got just enough of a desire the other day to create a playlist for the fic and right now its only 8 songs long. I also decided to make it collaborative cause why not let other fans add in whatever songs they think will fit? Feel free to add any songs you think will fit! The more the merrier! And its a good way to discover other songs too that someone else might’ve not though of.
I just want to list the songs and the reason why I think fits sani’s fic. And there may be a little spoiler here and there to whomever haven’t read the fic yet so beware of that lol
Weeping - Karen Zoid and Vusi Mahlasela
The author requested this one be added, its an anti-apartheid protest song. And it makes sense right? Seeing how, as she explained it, where she got the name of the fic from. I looked up the lyrics and they are very good, I like them. If you read the fic then, like me, you can see why it fits.

The Last Time - Lee Ann Womack
Did you know the whole fic is also a country song? Well it is, its multiple country songs written in fic form. But did you know that there is a song that encapsulate the time before Ezra left for school in 1975 not knowing that would be the last time he’ll see Anton for years? A song that describes Ezra after he returned from school on to discover that Anton had left without saying goodbye? Well there is and its called The Last Time.
If the aforementioned The Last Time was loosely reformatted into a rock version, then you got Re:re lol. I feel like the whole gist of the song and the sentiment fits Ezra during the years he hasn’t seen Anton. The pain he felt and the longing he had for the one person he called his most best friend he had in the world.
Still Into You - Nathan Sharp aka NateWantsToBattle
Yep, another awesome song from Nathan Sharp. This time this song is for when Ezra and Anton meet yet again in 1983 and spend a lot of time together. Like as if they haven’t been apart for 6000 8 years.
Like Weeping, this song is about the oppressive government. This song though, talks about the oppressive government in general, or at least from what i can interpret from the lyrics, that uses tools to oppresses the citizens via the media and whatnot. To sow fear, division and hatred among the citizens to the point of complacency. Granted I’m an outsider here, but from what i can tell...it fits.
Oh come on, how can I not add this song to the playlist? Forbidden lovers in a society that says they cannot due to their place in society? An Azi/Crowley historical human au fic that takes place in a country in the early 80s underneath an oppressive government that separated Ezra and Anton based on shit they can’t control? And they love each other despite the utter bullshit of the world? Yeah this song fits, its a no brainer.
