A rare party switch in the Missouri House could be in the offing after one Republican on Wednesday wasn’t allowed to speak against a GOP plan to restrict gender-affirming care for minors.

Rep. Chris Sander, R-Lone Jack, one of two openly gay Republicans in the Legislature, said Wednesday that local, state and national Republicans needed to decide whether gay and transgender Republicans were welcome.

“If they want to tell all Republicans who are gay to get out and go to the Democrat Party, they just need to do that,” Sander, a 2001 graduate of Hazelwood West High School in St. Louis County, told the Post-Dispatch.

Sander was one of three Republicans to vote against the restrictions, which are headed to Gov. Mike Parson, a Republican, for his consideration.

House Majority Leader Jonathan Patterson, R-Lee’s Summit, and Rep. Gary Bonacker, R-House Springs, also broke with their party to vote with Democrats against the ban.

Sander, who said he is Republican committeeman for the Van Buren Township in Jackson County, said he planned to speak at the county party’s May 22 meeting.

Members of the county GOP have tried to censure Sander for filing a resolution that would overturn Missouri’s constitutional ban on same-sex marriage, which was nullified by a 2015 Supreme Court decision.

“I’m going to rail against them and I’m going to say how I think it should be, and if they don’t like it, they can just get rid of me, and if that happens then I’ll be an independent or a Democrat,” Sander said, adding he might also consider becoming a Libertarian if he left the GOP.

“If they kick me off that (Jackson County GOP) committee, I will not be a Republican,” Sander said.

If Sander were to quit the GOP, he would join a short list of other House members over the past decade to leave their political party.

In 2015, then-Rep. Keith English, a Florissant Democrat, said he was leaving the Democratic Party to become an independent.

“This is no longer the Democrat Party of Bill Clinton or John F Kennedy. I’m leaving the party because I love my state,” English said at the time.

English’s decision to ditch the Democrats followed another Democratic defection a day after the 2014 midterms.

Then-Rep. Linda Black, who had been a Democrat from Desloge, switched to the Republican Party a day after the election after she ran unopposed.

Her St. Francois County district had a long history of electing Democrats but voters there have bolted to the Republicans in recent election cycles.

Sander’s eastern Jackson County 33rd District is roughly 58% Republican and 39% Democrat, according to an analysis of the district’s partisan makeup.

“I can see myself winning an election as a Republican or a Democrat or an independent,” he said.

Republicans controlled 117 seats in the House in 2015 following Black’s switch.

The GOP now controls 111 seats despite continuing to hold a two-thirds majority.

Democrats hold 51 seats following Democratic Rep. Rasheen Aldridge’s resignation this year to join the St. Louis Board of Aldermen. Parson has not called a special election to replace him.

did some rotation for the earthbound Krolia AU again and came to the conclusion that it's actually more interesting if Krolia still has direct contact with the Blades even while living on Earth, so here's some spitballing based on that idea:

She briefly leaves after the second scouting party arrives, in order to report back to the Blade. She informs Kolivan directly that she fully intends to stay on Earth and protect the blue lion herself. She does debrief him about her partner and her son. He gives her an exasperated look, but signs off on her mission.

The Blade are the ones who build the illusion tech for her.

While she's there, she picks a blade that she will train Keith with, since she fully intends to raise him in the ways of the Blade even on Earth. She gifts it to him once he turns four.

(Heath questions if this is an appropriate gift for a four year old.)

She also brings acolyte armor with her. Safety first!

Krolia periodically brings Keith to space with her. She thinks it's important that he's exposed to what's out there- both the beautiful and the harshness of war.

Krolia brings Keith back to the main base exactly once- so that he can take his trials when he turns sixteen. She arranges for him to take a week off from the Garrison for it. When he returns, he's a full Blade and can now awaken his own blade.

(Shiro notices his shoulder is sore for a few weeks after, and expresses concern once he later sees the scar on it. Keith just says he got into a bit of a mishap on vacation, but it's fine.)

Shortly after the Kerberos mission is abducted, and around when the Garrison is reeling from the discovery of alien life, Krolia and Keith show up on base in full Blade armor. Krolia tells them about the Galra Empire, and that they are members of the Blade of Marmora, a group of rebels fighting against them. She offers to retrieve their captured men if they agree to an alliance with the Blade.

(She was already planning on rescuing the Kerberos crew anyways. This is against Kolivan's orders.)

The Garrison is left reeling with the revelation that one of their cadets has been half-alien the entire time. That they've had an alien on campus for parent's events unbeknownst to them.

(Admiral Sanda and Krolia's relationship is... frosty, as one might expect.)

over recent months the guys have done a lot of work within the band! they have already released their first single, and have almost finished work on their first album. the work on the songs is going quite fast, since most of them were written a long time ago. all they needed was a revision and a fresh look. and now the album is almost ready for release! the guys are very excited! despite the fact that Zane joined the band quite recently, he has quite an important role. he is a guitarist and one of the vocalists. at first, he was worried that it would be difficult for him to join an already well-coordinated team. however, his expectations were not fulfilled, and the guys were able to get into a working rhythm quickly enough. moreover, they were even able to get to know each other well!

Keith was the person who helped Zane adapt and get to know the guys better. he is very gentle and friendly. the only person he is strict with is his sister. but even despite little arguments and misunderstandings, they maintain a good relationship. also, he is the most responsible and organized person among the others. probably for this reason, he unofficially got the role of leader in the group.

Ernest is the most silent and calm person in this company. most of the time he is immersed in songwriting. Ern doesn't talk much about himself. despite the fact that their wives became friends, Zane still couldn't find an approach to Ern. in addition, Ernest has absolute authority in the group. he has a musical education and great experience in a musical career. his word always carries weight.

Ida is the most extraordinary member of the group. no one knows what's on her mind or what she's doing. sometimes it seems that there is no shame, no regrets, no worries in her. most of the time, she just acts like a child. however, despite all these things, she is insanely talented. Ida has incredible vocals and her singing is mesmerizing. despite the fact that their acquaintance was quite strange, Ida and Zane found a common ground. besides, their voices sound good together! it makes the vocal part of the band's performances quite strong.

Hi!! You never bother me ❤️ Don't worry! I love talking about Keith and Maeve.

I fell in love with him during the Be My Lover Be My Beast event. It was the first time I really paid attention to him and he took my whole heart when I did lol. Everything about him is interesting to me so it's hard to keep it short and direct, but I think the first thing that got me hooked was the throuple dynamics between Keith, Alter and MC. With it came the complexity of their characters. Then Jade, the stag crest, the potential for pagan themes we've already talked about.

And I just love them both, they're the best of two worlds 🥹

About Maeve, I feel like I have to make a more neutral version of her to start posting more here. Since I've created her for a kinda magical AU fanfic, some things are super specific and wouldn't work without the whole AU context. But in general:

She was born in a very small village in southern Jade. Her parents were shepherds and she had a very modest and simple upbringing.

Her parents died when she was still very young, though, with a disease that spread through the village. A priestess named Una was there to help containing it, and when Maeve became an orphan she took her in to become a priestess like herself.

Maeve then started living in Caisteal na Sí, the castle of that duchy. The thing is, that region of Jade is still highly connected with the old religion and traditions, so Caisteal isn't an ordinary castle, but a place where people learn and practice all the rites that were once common in all Jade. They worship a Goddess, observe the Wheel of the Year, and try to live in synergy with nature (please notice this is my headcanon that Jade would have at least a region like this. Caisteal is my creation and is not canon).

But even being an apprentice and later a priestess herself, Maeve was always considered as a... kind of a maid. There's nothing really special about her lineage or her talents for her to be any more than this to the duchess.

Eventually Una had a baby of her own, Innes, and Maeve would help her taking care of the infant. They became family to her.

One day Una also passed, leaving Maeve and Innes on their own. But both Una and Innes had a good lineage and Innes is particularly talented, so let's just say she has a special treatment Maeve would never have. This didn't create any distance between them emotionally, but they're the only ones who see themselves as sisters.

Maeve has good knowledge of herbs and local tales, and she gets along very well with simple people. Royals make her feel a bit alienated.

She can sing, although she has conflicted feelings about it (remember she's called black bird? This is one of the reasons). She feels like this is her only talent, and that this is useful only to entertain people. Deep down she wished she could be more useful that this, she wished she had a higher purpose (it comes a lot with the treatment she receives as well, with everyone looking down on her).

Maeve is a Cancer. She's sweet, she can create deep bonds with people and would do everything to protect and take care of them. She's also very perceptive and emotional, and being so connected to the moon makes her mood swing a little bit lol She can't control her tears, but she can't do much to control it when she's angry as well.

She finds Keith hurt in the woods and takes care of his injury. It's easy for her to realize there's two Keiths, she can see the change in his eyes. And since she worships a Goddess with many faces, she simply accepts that the prince can have more than one face, too.

She ends up creating this bond with them while tending to their wound, since they're on their own in the woods during this period. But she knows a romance between them would be hard and most likely short-lived for many reasons. She believes he'll be back to court and she'll stay there in Caisteal, so what is there for them?

Still they fall in love, of course they do, heehee. And both Keiths do their best to assure her there'll be more to it than she believes.

I guess that's it for now? One day I'll try to elaborate everything better for Tumblr 😅 Maybe I can even try writing shorter stories in canon universe here about them. Let's see.

Was Charlie looking forward to the tour? His expression was a monument to the phrase ‘No Comment.’

Keith laughed.

“He always says he doesn't want to go on tour, but he always does," said Richards, helpfully interpreting the Watts silence. "He's one of these guys who appear over the poop deck, after it's all over and says 'I quite enjoyed that'. He just pretends he doesn't want to do it, 'Cause he does really, or else why would he still be here?”

…

[Later] Stu played them back an old number on a tape machine, so they could remember it.

“What's all this?" demanded Keith, and then giggled to Charlie.

“Oh he's always a one for innovations."

Keith pretending to be gay is a disturbing experience.

Runaway paladin AU x Twinverse: Akira runs into the Voltron group right after Keith goes awol. Is torn between insisting he isn't who they think he is, and keeping his own identity secret.

Akira is SO confused.

Why are there humans in space? Why do they clearly know his twin brother? The one his mom left back on Earth with their dad? Are those Alteans?

He doesn't know how to tell these people that he's not who they think he is without revealing his identity as a Blade. He's pretty sure his cover will be blown anyways, because these are the paladins- which means Keith is a paladin- but the red lion apparently also accepts him? Kolivan tells him to keep up the act for now, while they try to fin exactly where his brother went and what he's doing.

Akira just pretends that he hit his head when the red lion crashed, so his memories are kind of shaky right now. He gets away with it purely because even the one person who knows Keith has an identical twin brother (Shiro) doesn't expect to find him in deep space. Meanwhile, Kolivan's Blades actually manage to find Keith, and bring him back to base, where they learn he lost his ability to shapeshift and is stuck in Galra form.

They 'resolve' this issue by letting Keith join the Blades in Akira's place, while Akira stays on the Castle of Lions and continues to pretend to be Keith. What they don't expect is that eventually the paladins will show up at their base, asking for an alliance.
