Heroine of the day - Sally McNeil
Born September 30, 1960 is an American former sergeant, professional female bodybuilder and muscle worship practitioner, who was convicted for the murder of her husband Ray McNeil, a Mr. Olympia competitor.
Her husband Ray has been physically and mentally abusing her for years, cheating on her as well. He liked to choke her, and did it multiple times during their relationship. On February 14th 1995, when he attacked her again, she had enough and she shot him. I say GOOD FOR HER.
But obviously the misogynistic society labeled her as an aggressive bully. Just because she was extremely strong physically, people didn't believe that she could be a victim of domestic violence. Even though a professional psychologist evaluated her and confirmed that she was abused, the absolute asshole of a prosecutor named Dan Goldstein kept denying this fact. He thought that a victim should be a perfect, helpless, delicate woman and Sally wasn't like this. So he did everything he could to destroy her in court and she ended up spending 25 years in prison for murder.
When watching a documentary about her (Netflix's Killer Sally) there are a couple of things worth noticing.
Sally's children confirmed that she was abused and they were 100% on her side. They SAW what was happening and knew she didn't have a choice.
As for Ray, his friends who are in the documentary are straight up ridiculous. One man said (with a smile on his face!) that Ray once gouged out some man's eyes. Then he proceeded to describe Ray as a gentle, harmless giant. And THEN he said how aggressive and dangerous Sally was 🤡 Ray's friends also found it very entertaining that he cheated on Sally. They were smiling while talking about it. They didn't give a single fuck about how hurt this woman was. And they wouldn't care if it was Ray who killed her.
Sally was not only a victim of domestic abuse. She's also a victim of misogyny, which robbed her of 25 years of her life.
But now she's free and thriving and I wish her all the best. She did NOTHING wrong. Every woman who kills her abuser is a heroine and should be praised.

Killer Sally
We just finished watching Killer Sammy on Netflix, my friend and I got into a very heated argument on how the trial was not fair. He argued that she was rightfully found guilty and possibly deserved this treatment. I on the other hand had an urge to hug all the victims of abuse especially women who took it all and was holding on to that one string of hope, that things might change the next morning.
When you watch the trial, you'd be surprised at how many times her body was the topic. The prosecutor, an highly educated intellectual man went on to say that Sally was physically stronger than the husband, and that Sally had no feminine traits thus making her capable of murder. The trial revolved around the masculine nature of Sally. My heart pours out to all the strong women in the body building or athletics field who are a prey of such stereotypes. With no surprise Sally was found guilty and served the next 25 years in prison.
To all girls I urge you not to say no to an opportunity just cause the gender norms says so. Go lift that bar in the gym, run an extra mile, dive, swim like the goddess you are, let no one tell you otherwise.

April (2023)
.________
films
Triangle of Sadness (2022) a lot of people say this is too much like “The White Lotus”, but I don’t think people realize that director Ruben Östlund had already talked about “white people problems/eating shit” in the brilliant “Force Majeure” so it’s no surprise that he delivered this brilliant study of overly privilege life.
Late Night (2019) I love Emma Thompson and Mindy Kaling but this is just ok, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel did it better in just one episode.
The Last Kingdom: Seven Kings Must Die (2023) Is it a perfect movie? Far from it to be honest. But in my heart, it's a 4 and that's what is truly important.Uhtred <3
The People We Hate at the Wedding (2022) I think it had potential, but sometimes the jokes and situations weren't that funny. Anything with Allison Janney and Kristen Bell was great, super funny, and memorable, the rest of the cast had to try and follow along but they really weren't the right fit.
The Super Mario Bros. Movie (2023) The perfect mix of nostalgic and genuinely good. Good movie to see on the big screen after so long away from cinemas.
________
books
Elena Ferrante - Days of Abandonment  Everyone says this is her hardest book to read, and I agree, it's truly painful. And I have yet to grasp what it all meant to me.
John Green -  The Anthropocene Reviewed  My first time reading one of his books and I really enjoyed a lot of what he is saying here, I like his style of writing and his personal reflections on life. I might listen to his podcast, but I don't think I will ever read his YA fiction.
Deborah Harkness - A Discovery of Witches I saw the tv series until the end before reading this, and I'm surprised that this is so bad when the tv adaptation is comparatively so much better. The adaptation goes straight to the point and the book goes on and on and on, it is just pointless to the narrative 50% of the time, dragging things along until I couldn't stand it anymore.
Marguerite Duras - The Lover
________
tv shows
Doom Patrol (2019 - 2023) - season 01 -  It took me longer than I wished to finish this season but I did love it so much, had so much fun watching it and I’m sad this isn’t as big as it should be.
The Mandalorian (2019 -) - season 03 - It’s impossible to be as good as we want it, but this really dropped the ball a little bit, it could have been bigger, but they got lazy for a bit.
Killer Sally (2022) - We don’t know the truth, but her trial could not have been more biased. I’m sure there’s still people who don’t get it at all.
Transatlantic (2023) - We talk way too much about WW2 - but at least this had a different take, regular people trying to do good.
________
music
Scowl - Psych Dance Routine [EP] (2023) - 4 Stars
High Vis -  Blending  - 5 Stars
The HIRS Collective - Trust The Process - 3 Stars
Ibaraki - Rashomon - 3 Stars
The National - First Two Pages of Frankenstein - I still don’t know how I feel about it.
songs
Dilly Dally - Colour of Joy and Morning Light (2023) - super sad they are over
High Vis - Trauma Bonds

Watching Killer Sally and Sally definitely has anger issues but it’s interesting that if a man had been threatening to beat up the person his wife was having an affair with, no one would even bat an eyelid but it’s one of the key facts used to vilify her in this case

The prosecutor on the Killer Sally McNeil case Alan Goldstein? His soul is in jeopardy; you can tell by the way the "man" is slowly aging into David Lynch's Vladimir Harkonnen, lmao.

I casually started watching this docuseries last night and the worst thing narration wise so far is everybody pronouncing Valentine's Day as valentime.

Netflix Series Reaction: KILLER SALLY
I caught this series on Netflix the other day. WHAT DID I THINK OF KILLER SALLY? Yeahhhh this was one messed up case. I really felt for both sides – it really sucked how everything got so out of control. I think Sally definitely got played when it came to the court case. I think they really used her bodybuilding / fetish videos / “killer marine” videos against her unfairly. Like I said before…
