TRANSCRIPTION of Bisan's words:
Oh my God (repeated several times). This is Rafah. This is Rafah. This is the hospital in Rafah and all these bombings are around us now. Oh my God. You are telling us to go to the south. You are telling us to evacuate Khan Younis. Now we are evacuating Khan Younis - look at this! Look at all of this! This is the Kuwaiti Hospital, the last functioning hospital in the south after Nasser Medical Complex, and all these bombings around us, in front of our eyes and your eyes.
....

‼️🇵🇸💚 “It’s a matter of steadfastness from God”, A speech from Dr. Suheib Al Hams to his medical team as Israel invades Rafah
[Plain text: “It’s a matter of steadfastness from God”, A speech from Dr. Suheib Al Hams to his medical team as Israel invades Rafah]
🔸 Sources: eye on Palestine, abdallah_alattar1999, translating_falasteen
[Video and audio description: The video shows Doctor Suheib Al Hams speaking to his medical team outside of the Al Kuwaiti Hospital. The caption in the video reads “A message of steadfastness and steadfastness from Dr: Suhaib Al-Hams to the medical staff working in Kuwait Hospital after the occupation's demands to evacuate the only working hospital in the city of Rafah.”. Above this, text in Arabic which reads the same. Doctor Suheib Al Hams is speaking in Arabic, and his words are being translated in the center of the screen in English. He says:
“Let’s stick together and keep each other steadfast. No one can deny that we are all afraid, but steadfastness comes from God. Read the Quran and pray to God. “Nothing will happen in God’s domain except what He wills.” It’s not a matter of preaching, it’s a matter of steadfastness from God. May God keep us all steadfast, and I’m not leading you towards death, I’m not leading anyone towards death, there is a hospital we are preparing as an alternative, when it is ready, I will move a part of the staff there, but this is the only refuge available for people, there is nowhere else for them to go. Sadly there’s nowhere else for them to go.
We are working with the most basic facilities but we are saving lives. May God keep us all steadfast. Keep one another steadfast and til the last moment, as I said, I will evacuate you with ambulances. I am in touch with the World Health Organization, they have medical missions here, if they sensed danger, they would have evacuated them. I consulted with the Red Cross, they would have advised us to evacuate. Even the occupation said not to evacuate medical teams in Al-Kuwaiti, but regardless I’m telling you brothers, they cannot be trusted. They’ve not respected either Al-Nasser or Al-Shifa [medical complexes]. That’s why I’m telling you, we need to remain steadfast till the last moment.
There is nowhere else to go. May God keep us steadfast together. Let’s stick together and keep one another steadfast. No one can deny that we are all afraid, but steadfastness comes from God, and until the last moment, one must make a stand, those who left have the whole system down, there’s nowhere for people to go. People are dying in the streets. When we have an alternative place for you and the patients to get treated, God willing, that’s when we will vacate in an orderly manner, God willing. When you see supplies leaving the hospital, it’s us providing food and drink for the new hospital and equipment for the hospital. We are staying here resolute until the last moment, God willing. And I am staying here with you, my brothers. I am not taking risks or treating the matter carelessly. I am not putting your lives at risk.”
End Description.]

It’s the day after Mother’s Day and I’m catching up on work I didn’t do last week.
By “catching up” I of course mean scrolling this damn website.
I’m trying to read an essay/post a friend of a friend made about war and hope and the collapse of empire when a mom and her kid walk by.
“Isn’t that a HUGE, BEAUTIFUL tree?” She exclaims to the kid. He’s holding her free and as they walk, her other hand is busy pushing a stroller full of wiggling onsie-covered feet. His green backpack is as big as he is.
“Look at that tree! WOW! It’s so big!”
And they’re gone.
It was rainy and cold most of the day yesterday and today it’s sunny and bright. I can hear the birds in the gutters and further off in the neighborhood. My cat is asleep on the bed behind me. She follows me everywhere. When I’m at work, she sleeps on the couch in the living room.
Next week, I’ll be in Ireland with my mom, exclaiming at wonders alongside her, keeping the thoughts of war and hope and the collapse of empire to myself while we learn about the colonized land our family is from. While I meet more of my new family. While she and I pretend we don’t disagree about war and hope and the collapse of empire.
I just want to hold her hand and say, wow, look at that huge beautiful tree. How old it must be, how young we are, how big we are now. Look how things grow, look how they endure. Doesn’t the wind moving through the leaves make you feel beautiful?

Rafah is a massive shelter with children and elderly unable to evacuate
Feb 12th 2024, 00:15 GMT
Tareq Abu Azzoum, reporting from Rafah in southern Gaza Strip
The Israeli army has been saying that there’s no victory without invading Rafah and dismantling the military capabilities of Hamas movements here.
But the civilians here are very concerned and this has triggered wide-scale condemnation among different international organisations and states in the region about the disastrous potential consequences.
Specifically, right now Rafah has become a massive shelter for more than 1.9 million Palestinians.
Evacuation centres and makeshift camps have been established recently alongside the borders of Egypt, which will absolutely pose a new significant threat also for Egyptian national security.
And let’s be very aware about the dangerous humanitarian catastrophe that will result if that military incursion happens, specifically among children and among elderly people who are unable to easily evacuate the city as Israel has claimed.
What is happening in Gaza’s Rafah as Israel threatens to attack?
Feb 12th 2024, 00:30 GMT
More than a million Palestinians are trapped at Gaza’s southernmost point, with the Israeli army preparing a ground attack.
But what is Rafah and what are the details around this announced Israeli “operation”?
Palestinian Rafah is 64sq km (25sq miles) and, as Israel assaulted Gaza these past four months, more and more people have been herded into it by Israeli forces who keep promising safety “further south” – which never materialised.
People are in dense clusters in the limited space not filled with debris or being bombed by Israel. Conditions are dire, with severe shortages.
You can read more here.

At least 11 people killed by Israel airstrikes on Rafah: reports
Feb 12th 2024, 00:57 GMT
Our Al Jazeera Arabic colleagues are reporting that Israeli air strikes in Rafah have killed at least 11 people and injured many more.
Local media is reporting that two mosques were targeted in the north and central parts of the city in southern Gaza. The injured have been transferred to the Kuwaiti Hospital.
We will bring you further updates on this story when we have them.

Doctors in Rafah, the southernmost part of Gaza where over 1 million displaced Palestinians have fled, are raising alarm over the impact Israel’s expected military escalation will have on 25 preterm babies in incubators at Emirate Maternity Hospital. Glia, a medical aid group that currently has eight personnel at Emirate, said in a dispatch shared with Jezebel on Monday that no fuel has entered Gaza since May 6; the hospial has enough fuel for about 48 hours until its reserves run out. (On May 9, the United Nations said that no aid or fuel had been able to enter Gaza from Rafah since Israeli forces took control of the border crossing last week.) “If fuel does not enter immediately, the lights will turn off. Generators will stop running. Incubators will fail. Babies will die,” said Dr. Dorotea Gucciardo, a doctor with Glia currently stationed at Emirate. The 25 babies “are at immediate risk if these incubators are shut off.” Al Jazeera reported that, as of early Monday, Israeli forces ordered the medical staff at Kuwaiti Hospital, also in Rafah, to evacuate, as they continue to increase their attacks on the area. Last week, a UNICEF spokesperson said there is “nowhere safe on the Gaza strip to go to,” and that “Rafah is a city of children,” with 600,000 kids “caught in the crosshairs” of war. Since the start of Israel’s assault on Gaza in October, the United Nations estimates that over 14,500 children have been killed; more than 35,000 Palestinians of all ages have died due to Israeli bombs and gunfire. The full scale of casualties, including death from malnutrition and illness, is not yet known. Dr. Tarek Loubani, the head of Glia’s medical programs, and Gucciardo pleaded with the international community to care about the fate of the preterm babies being kept alive by incubators (and thus, fuel.) In a statement to Jezebel, Loubani referenced four incubated babies at al-Nasr Children’s Hospital who were found dead and decomposing (“eaten by worms [and] blackened by mold,” according to the Washington Post) in December, after Israel forced hospital staff to flee, assuring them the babies would be cared for. “The global community cannot allow this to happen again,” Gucciardo said.

[ 📹 A female survivor of an Israeli attack describes the strike which targeted displaced Palestinian civilians sleeping in tents in the Al-Mawasi neighborhood of Khan Yunis. The area was previously declared a "safe zone" by the Zionist authorities.]
🇮🇱⚔️🇵🇸 🚀🏘️💥🚑 🚨
ISRAELI OCCUPATION FORCES SLAUGHTER DISPLACED CIVILIANS SLEEPING IN TENTS ON 156TH DAY OF GENOCIDE
The Israeli occupation forces (IOF) continued its ongoing war of genocide in the Gaza Strip for the 156th day, committing a total of 8 new massacres of Palestinian families, resulting in the deaths of at least 83 civilians and wounding another 130 others over the previous 24-hours.
Countless victims of Israeli strikes remained buried under the rubble of their homes after being slaughtered in their sleep, while other bodies remain scattered in the streets, with local ambulance and civil defense crews unable to reach the victims due to continued Zionist bombing and shelling across the Palestinian enclave.
In the south of Gaza, Zionist air and artillery forces stationed in Hamad Town launched multiple strikes targeting the tents of displaced Palestinian families in the Al-Mawasi neighborhood of the Khan Yunis governate, previously declared a "safe zone" by occupation authorities, resulting in the deaths of at least 15 Palestinians and wounding dozens of others.
Simultaneously, Israeli warplanes launched multiple intense firebelts targeting the area between Khan Yunis and Deir al-Balah in south-central Gaza, while intense bombardment of the Al-Zawayda neighborhood, also in central Gaza, resulted in the deaths of at least 8 civilians, as bodies are still being pulled out from under the rubble.
The city of Hamad Town also remains under siege by occupation forces, which recently surrounded the city, displacing most of the population, while Israeli jets bombed and destroyed several residential apartment buildings in the neighborhood.
In another crime, IOF bombing and shelling of the Al-Qarara neighborhood, east of Khan Yunis, led to the deaths of three civilians and wounded a number of others.
At the same time, Zionist occupation forces also bombarded Khams Street, north of Khan Yunis, resulting in the martyrdom of multiple Palestinians, while another bombing of a civilian vehicle east of Rafah led to a number of casualties among civilians.
Similarly, IOF air and artillery forces heavily bombarded multiple neighborhoods in the central Gaza Strip, with local ambulance and civil defense personnel transporting at least 37 bodies of murdered civilians, along with another 118 wounded persons, to the Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital in Deir al-Balah.
Israeli occupation fighter jets also bombarded several vacant homes after the families occupying them were previously displaced by Zionist bombing and artillery shelling, with the occupation's shelling targeting the Al-Bahnasawy and Al-Baz family homes in the vicinity of the Al-Nuseirat Market in central Gaza. Communication lines were also cut to the Al-Nuseirat camp, while a fire broke out near the Market after Israeli attacks.
Five civilians were also murdered after intense Israeli firebelts targeted Deir al-Balah in central Gaza late on Saturday.
In continued war crimes, Zionist forces also shelled two civilian homes belonging to the Al-Nuwairi family, to the west of Al-Nuseirat, killing at least 13 family members, while several others remain missing under the rubble of the two destroyed residences.
Once again, Zionist occupation forces opened fire on starving civilians waiting for food aid trucks to arrive to the Al-Kuwaiti roundabout in the Al-Zaytoun neighborhood, southeast of Gaza City, in the northern Gaza Strip, slaughtering at least five Palestinians and wounding dozens of others as hungry civilians have little choice but remain in the area for the survival of themselves and their families. The wounded were taken to Al-Shifa Medical Complex, located in the Al-Rimal neighborhood of Gaza City.
Occupation fighter jets also bombed the Abu Nasser family home in the Beit Lahia project, in the north of the enclave, killing at least one civilian and burying several others under the rubble. Recovery efforts continue to search for the missing victims at the time of publishing.
Further, Zionist fighter jets launched a firebelt targeting the Al-Shati Refugee Camp, west of Gaza City, killing two and wounding a number of others.
Two more Palestinians have also died as a result of Israel's blockade and enforced starvation of Gaza's civilian population.
According to local reports, spokesperson for Gaza's Ministry of Health, Dr. Ashraf Al-Qudra, told journalists with Palestinian news agency WAFA that a two-month-old baby girl died at Kamal Adwan Hospital in Beit Lahiya as a result of starvation and dehydration, while a 20 year-old woman also died from malnutrition and dehydration at Al-Shifa Hospital in the Al-Rimal neighborhood of Gaza City. This brings the death toll from famine in the Gaza Strip to a total of 25.
As a result of Israel's ongoing war of genocide in Gaza, the death toll has now risen to exceed 31'045 Palestinians martyred, upwards of 25'000 of which being women and children according the the United States Pentagon, with another 72'654 civilians wounded since the start of Israel's aggression on the Gaza Strip beginning October 7th, 2023.
