WHO WOULDVE FUCKING GUESSED THAT HIRING A PROFESSIONAL TAP AND BALLET DANCER FOR A DANCE CENTERED STAGE SHOW INSTEAD OF A RANDOM CELEBRITY FOR MARKETING AND ACTUALLY USING A CLICK TRACK ON THE SONG IN 13/8 WOULDVE YIELDED GOOD RESULTS? WHO COULDVE GUESSED HONESTLY. NOT ME!

In reference to this post…I saw you say phantom of the opera royal Albert hall 2011 and…just gotta get this off my chest- the look back that Christine does at the very end as she’s going up the stairs and the the NOD Eric does that tells her it’s okay MY HEAAAART!!!! It was improvised for that one performance but it ruins me ever. Time.
Great choice.
OMG YES!!
The way she HESITATES to leave him, even though he has done so much harm to her and those around her, at that moment, I pictured that Christine was not only pitying him; she actually realized that everything he did came from a place of love (even a very distorted one) and solitude. She nurtured feelings for him, for the good in him. OH, MY HEART!! And Raoul KNOWS she's not hesitating because she doesn't love him, but because she cares about Erik in such a loving way 😭😭that's just… complicated.
I love everything about this particular version, especially Ramin Karimloo's, Hadley Fraser's, and Sierra Bogess' acting choices, like, BITCHES YOU GAVE ME TRAUMA!!
There's a reason it's my most-logged film on Letterboxd xD
I love you for sharing this fun fact with me because I had forgotten about it, and now I'm tempted to re-watch it again!

why Ramin when there's literally EVERY other Phantom tho
I'm going to answer this legit instead of being like "like whoever you like."
So 2004 I was super excited to go the midnight showing of "The Phantom of the Opera" movie. I hadn't had the chance to see the musical in person, coming from a family in which I was their main introduction to theatre when I was accidentally put into theatre class my freshman year of high school and decided I loved it. My sister and I fell in love the proshot of "Cats" (which my drama teacher introduced me to) and that was the first professional theatre show we saw live. We saw a tour of it in 1999.
Anyway...so 2004 I'm in college super excited to finally see Phantom. I leave that movie theater so disappointed. I was like "I thought he was supposed to be able to sing. Also the fuck was Minnie Driver doing there?" After that I'm like "Ew I want nothing to do with Phantom."
2011: I'm in NYC for the first time but I'm with major red flag boyfriend (which is a different story). We're walking by what I later learn is The Majestic to get to our hotel. At the time I just see lots of Phantom posters and ads. I stop and look at them and am like The stage production has to be better than that movie. I ask Ex if we can go see it and he's all like we don't have the time. (of course we had the time, it was just not what he wanted to do).
End of 2017/Early 2018: I got "unlawfully terminated" from my job. I'm wasting a lot of time on tumblr. A few of my mutuals post a lot of Phantom content, lots of pictures of various Christine's in the dressing robe is what I remember the most. I like what I see and I'm like I should give Phantom another chance, I have all this free time. HOWEVER, I decide this time as I was a literature major, I'm going to the source material first. I look up the novel, read up on the newer translations, pick the one I like best. I fall in love. I finish the thing in two days.
I decide I'm going to suck it up and give the 2004 movie another chance after loving the novel so much. I contact my sister because I know she has a copy as an actress and a Gerald Butler lover. I tell her my reason. She replies, "No, I have something better for you. Come over." So while her husband is at work we have lunch, she curls my hair and she puts on The Phantom of the Opera Royal Albert Hall.
I wasn't paying too much attention at the moment because my sister was asking something about my hair but at that same exact moment Ramin's "Insolent Boy!" boomed through her sound system. No lie (and TMI) but my nipples instantly went hard and I turned towards the TV and was like "Hello! Who is this?" Him and Sierra were barely out on stage in the boat and I was already googling Ramin Karimloo.
In two seconds with just his voice, Ramin Karimloo made me fall back in love with "The Phantom of the Opera" In 2004 when I left that movie theater saying "I thought the Phantom was supposed to be able to sing" Ramin turned that around in two seconds. And then I saw him act. And then while watching it I found shirtless pictures of him on the internet.
I have seen many boots since and have seen 4 Phantoms live (5 counting Ramin but not for this point) and none of them do it for me like Ramin. I've had other Christine's impress me more than Sierra since (like Holly Ann Hull is my top now. Saw her 3 times live). And after seeing Ramin as Phantom 4 times that's it. Even his Phantom in Italy had differences from his RAH Phantom but still just such perfection. Seeing it person he just becomes the Phantom. It was like I knew I it was Ramin but all you could see was Phantom, not Ramin acting Phantom.
This might not satisfy you because the way your question is worded seems to imply you're not that fond of him. And I know some of the "phandom" considers him a gateway Phantom. However he's very much loved by lots of people and was chosen for reasons.

🎶 double trouble! here's a second music note!
(okay this was kind of hard because all the fics I'm sharing from are Phantom of the Opera fics LOL, but I did my best!)
He let out a stuttering gasp as his eyes widened, his heart thundering against his paralyzed chest violently. He couldn’t move. It felt like he was suddenly attached to the stone floor. He couldn’t move his fingers. He couldn’t even turn his head as he stared with wide eyes at the reflection of the fireplace on the broken shards of the plate. A menacing cackle resounded around the room. Raoul’s entire body suddenly felt like it was plunged into icy water at the sound. He would know that voice anywhere. He had heard it enough haunting his dreams. “Hello, Monsieur de Chagny,” the Phantom’s voice purred.
This is from one of my fics for Bad Things Happen Bingo!
Send me a "🎶" and I'll shuffle one of my playlists and share what song I got, and post a line from my WIP that fits that song's vibe!

tagged by @invinciblerodent and thank you so much for the tag, it was super fun and a great break for today!
tagging @margridarnauds, as I think pairing songs with kissy-picrew (using this one) sounds right up your alley!
also all under the cut, because. well.
Tumblr media
I still haven't found the perfect song for them as a couple but I have found the perfect song for when gale tried to blow himself up, and then to achieve goodhood and then TRIED TO BLOW HIMSELF UP THREE MORE TIMES, LOVE OF MY LIFE YOU GOTTA STOP DOING THAT
The perfect song for two men riddled by insecurity issues who just need to fully believe each others' Anywhere you go, let me go too / Love me, that's all I ask of you
(And the lines Let me lead you from your solitude and Say the word and I will follow you are a nice bonus. If Caradoc being Raoul and Gale being Christine means that the Phantom is Mystra, then so be it).
Tumblr media
I have actually a whole folk song playlist for the two of them, especially because there are so many folk songs about someone called William, like SO MANY and some of them are SO appropriate but I have a soft spot for this one which is a version of the beauty and the beast (or the loathly lady) trope. tl;dr monstrous lady comes in his house and because King Henry is *that *noble and good he lets her eat all his favourite animals *and *sleeps with her, she becomes a beautiful maiden and in some versions also brings all the animals back to life
Also I like the ambiguity of the ending where imho it's not exactly clear how the curse broke BUT IT DID and now King Henry has the world most beautiful woman as a reward for being so good and noble.
Wyll gets a redeemed Bhaalspawn instead but that's probably how Mister Wylliam "I wanna get married and have children. Let's get engaged and then go to the Hells to slay demons together for the foreseeable future" Ravengard likes it.
Tumblr media
Aaaand it's this one:
Now that Patch 6 lets them be together even if she wants to fly away on a dragon it's less tragic for me to figure out their ending but the way the male singer is hoping she'll live another day and he will be by her side (And if she doesn't have the will/But it seems the whole world does I'll stay because/ *I will be the man my father never was) while she tells the gods that if they touch him they WILL pay (But to a woman by the end you'll kneel and plead/'Cause I'm more than what my mum told me to be*)...
Tumblr media
So the main problem with these two is that Elendris' doesn't really care about anything except the ones he loves and Astarion really should NOT be trusted with that influence on him until his character development kicks in *and they are both painfully self aware of it but *also don't really know how to stop it before it goes too far. And that's why they sent themselves to the Underdark so they can figure it out while helping people. And maybe develop some morals.
I assume some level of this will always exist in their relationship and for some reason this is the song to express it:
I like the self awareness of the couple in the song, the joy in love and being loved in this way and also we're like an odd pair of shoes / One slightly stylish and one slightly plain / One for the nightlife and one for the rain does sound like something Mister Astarion "UGH" Ancunín would say.
Tumblr media
Last but not least, for my old veterans with trauma:
There is a version with English lyrics here, it's a love song about how the other person is the only one who truly understood them and I love that the chorus says "By looking for you in this world, I got to know it and I gave it to you". It truly fits Ves'i'ran background of having being promoted/kicked out of gythianki society due to how obviously "sentimental" he is and having spent decades as a ranger in Faerun, learning to love it while being unable to just stop being loyal to an absent queen because otherwise what's the point of everything.
Halsin instead gets "In recent years I have lost more than one friend / I lost myself plus a few lighters / Life gives and then it takes/ That's why I'm afraid to be near you"
There was probably something more thematically appropriate but I like italian rap. Sue me.

Thanks for tagging me @brookezilla!
Post 10 GIFs of movies you loved as a child, then tag people. Optional: Tell us why you love(d) the films you picked.
In no particular order:
1. The Sound of Music (1965)
Tumblr media
I’ve loved this movie since I was like 2. My grandma used to take me grocery shopping with her and make me sing the songs. And of course two year old me sang them all in an English accent, which according to my grandma made me sound like an actual British child. Probably the start of my love for theatre.
2. Ever After (1998)
Tumblr media
Honestly, this is still my all time favourite movie. If anyone asks me what my favourite movie is, my mind automatically goes here. Like many of the movies on my list, this one was introduced to be by my mum and is very special to me.
3. The Harry Potter Series (2001-2011)
Tumblr media
Harry Potter has always been a massive love for me, and always will. It’s helped me through so much. Honestly, so disappointed in JKR (I in no way support her or her actions).
4. The Anne of Green Gables Trilogy (1985, 1987, 2000)
Tumblr media
I have loved Anne of Green Gables my whole life. It’s another one my mum introduced me to (and it’s her all time favourite). Took me a long time to watch Anne with an E because I love this one so much, but I quite like that now as well.
5. Annie (1982)
Tumblr media
This movie is so funny, honestly. I used to watch this when I was sick (and Anne of Green Gables), and listen to the soundtrack on repeat and never get bored. There is going to be a theme to my favourite movies. Many are musicals lol.
6. Peter Pan (2003)
Tumblr media
So I have such a love for this movie, and so many things to say about it (so much so that I will be teaching it in the fall alongside the original book and play). It does so many things so well, and I will always argue with people that it’s the best (and only) Peter Pan in my mind. Also, Jason Isaacs as Captain Hook 😮‍💨
7. Finding Neverland (2004)
Tumblr media
On the same note as Peter Pan, Finding Neverland was one I found when I was quite young and fell in love with. I loved the story behind it. And the musical that came out about 10 years ago is absolutely perfect. Kate Winslet is so wonderfully tragic in it too.
8. Pride & Prejudice (2005)
Tumblr media
This one is a bit of a controversial opinion in the Jane Austen fandom, but I love this version of Pride & Prejudice. It was my introduction to Jane Austen, and it’s just gotten larger from there. I’m now an English Lit professor focusing in the 18th century (and I very often teach Austen), so I think that tells you the impact this movie had on me.
9. Pollyanna (1960)
Tumblr media
This movie is just so pure and sweet and lovely. Yet another my mum introduced me to haha.
10. The Phantom of the Opera (2004)
Tumblr media
So there is a whole story around my love for Phantom, and the musical will always be massively special to me. This was the first version I got to see, and I was too young to see it when it came out but I begged my mum until she let me. Obviously by then I had already known the soundtrack so well. I no longer like the movie as much now that I’ve seen the stage show (and the Royal Albert Hall production which is my all time favourite), but it was my favourite as a kid.
And I guess honourable mention to the Royal Albert Hall Phantom because that came out just as I was finishing high school.
Tagging @mexicangela @deardarlingthings @roamwithahungryheart @mtfunkzoo and anyone else who wants to do this!

5 Songs
**Share 5 songs related to your current WIPs (art or writing related)
**If you don’t have a wip, you can share what you like about your top 5!
tagged by @cymatile, thank you cymatile
I usually don't listen to songs with lyrics when writing, because they're too distracting. Often I'll throw on that lo-fi hip-hop beats stream. But I will sometimes listen to a thematic song or two before writing to get in the proper headspace. And how convenient, I made up a playlist for my blorbo, Wayne Scarlethollow! Listen to it why doncha?
There are 13 videos on that list, but I will pick out my Top 5 songs from it and explain them! In no particular order:
1. Mx. Sinister (I Don't Know How But They Found Me)
And I'll get you yet (I'll get you yet) I've got to make you mine Just know I'm not the sinister type
Wayne kind of understands that he strikes people as creepy, but when he tries to be reassuring it just comes off as even creepier. But he's literally neurodivergent and a miner, so I'm willing to give him a pass. In fact, it's part of his charm.
2. I Will Possess Your Heart (Death Cab for Cutie)
How I wish you could see the potential The potential of you and me It's like a book elegantly bound but In a language that you can't read just yet
The way the instrumentals slowly build from a simple bass riff into an intense soundscape over more than four-and-a-half minutes before the vocals even kick in! Gives me chills, folks. Plus the stalker's smug condescension and certainty (or false bravado?) that he will earn his target's love captures Wayne's attitude to a T.
3. The Point of No Return (The Phantom of the Opera)
Past all thought of right or wrong One final question How long should we two wait before we're one?
If you watch the clip from the Royal Albert Hall's 2011 production of PotO, you'll understand why I picked this song. You all can see it, right? I firmly believe that events similar to the PotO scene will play out in Episode 6. Wayne will walk on in to Avery's party, letting the guests assume he's a guy with a bitchin' Halloween costume, and give MC a big ultimatum. MC must either leave their friends to the horrors and go with him to (relative) safety, or stay with them all and probably die. The drama!
4. Liebestod (Tristan und Isolde)
Do I alone hear this melody, which wonderfully and softly, lamenting delight, telling it all, mildly reconciling sounds out of him, invades me...
The final aria from Tristan und Isolde captures not only the tragic romance aspect of the Waynemance that I think the devs are building towards, but also how bizarre a Waynemancer MC must be to pass over a bunch of nice, conventionally-attractive people for a scary zombie man. Yes Sybil, Wayne is my friend and we're in love and I am drowning in his song and sweet smell. Why are you looking at me like that?
5. Under Attack (ABBA)
This is getting crazy, I should tell him so Really let my anger show Persuade him that the answer to his questions is a definite no (I'm kind of flattered I suppose)
"Stop following me! uwu" A bouncy 80s pop song is a fun way to close out a playlist full of heavy tracks and serious themes. And yet there's a haunting quality to this one. Again, I don't think the Waynemance is going to end well. But it's going to be a lot of fun, won't it?
Tagging @lytorika, @itsmewahoo, @nimbexy, @shanklinthestabpossum @kris-mage-fics. No pressure!

HEY
I CANNOT STOP THINKING ABOUT HOW RAMIN KARIMLOO SOUNDS AUTOTUNED IN SOME PARTS OF THE 25TH ANNIVERSARY PERFORMANCE
I- HE’S SO ON PITCH????? IS THAT EVEN THE RIGHT TERM? I DON’T KNOW I HAVE NO KNOWLEDGE OF MUSICAL TERMS IM A PERCUSSIONIST AND A MEDIOCRE ONE AT THAT
I’ve managed to remember 2 parts specifically where this happens
around 4:30 in The Point Of No Return
around 0:25 in Down Once More/Track Down This Murderer
I say autotune because IT DOESN’T SOUND HUMANLY POSSIBLE it sounds SPECTACULAR BUT IT DOESN’T SOUND LIKE A PERSON COULD MAKE THAT SOUND THE SHEER SKILL THIS MAN HAS

what’s your opinion on phantom 25th dvd release vs livestream 1 vs livestream 2? my friends have finally agreed to watch it with me and I wanna get a hot take from the resident hadley stan on which version to show them
I am jealous that you are getting to share POTO@RAH with your friends for the first time! All of my close friends and family have seen POTO with me at some point before and are very politely done with me carrying on about it. 😂 I'm sure whichever version you end up watching together will be a good time, but of course I'd be glad to give you my opinion. (With gifs exclusively from the broadcast versions to keep you entertained! 😍)
Tumblr media
A little context for those who don't know, The Phantom of the Opera at the Royal Albert Hall had 3 performances back in October 2011, and all of those shows were filmed. Of that footage there are 3 full 'versions' of the show floating around that we know of - the DVD version, and 2 versions of the broadcast that were aired live in theaters and on TV.
Tumblr media
The DVD version is the most edited of the three, and is a mash up of the video and audio from all performances. Ramin was dubbed pretty heavily in the version on the DVD, with different audio played over the same video we see from the live broadcasts. Off the top of my head, Stranger Than You Dreamt It is where it is the most noticeable, as well as some parts of the Final Lair. Ramin is known to have a very passionate and unhinged Phantom, and I honestly would call his vocal performance we hear in the broadcast version "messy", but not really in a bad way. He has a lot of feelings, okay? 🥺
Tumblr media
and anyways, I like my Phantom messy 🤷‍♀️ But I get why they decided to swap out the audio for the DVD. It's all still Ramin performing, of course, and it's never been officially said if Ramin came back to record additional vocals for the DVD. Most likely it was audio pulled from another night when he had settled down a bit. The video you see in the DVD is just slightly out of sync with what you hear, but it's not distracting and definitely not something a new viewer would notice.
Tumblr media
The broadcast versions are much more raw than the DVD. It’s worth noting here that that while there are 2 full video files that we call the broadcast versions, they are only different up through Angel of Music, at which point the rest of the video and audio of the show is exactly the same. I personally prefer broadcast version 1, but how could I pass up the opportunity to share this glorious shot of my favorite lovesick dork up in his box, only seen in v2 of the broadcast:
Tumblr media
There are a lot more wide shots of the whole stage in the broadcast version, as well as a number of close ups that linger beyond what we see in the DVD. A few of those close ups are some of my absolute favorite shots of this production, a selection of which I’ve featured here in gifs. I think the broadcast has a “watching it in the theatre” vibe too, where you’ll get a better view of the stage overall in some scenes, but you’ll miss the focus at points as the camera switches to catch up on the action. It also has a couple of flubs (see Hadley backing into the bench below, and another being Sierra’s very wet kiss after returning The Phantom’s ring). The DVD is much more polished, and makes a point to use only the shots that focus directly on the action of each scene, the downside being you can miss the subtleties that the rest of the amazing cast brings in each moment.
Tumblr media
It’s also worth mentioning the difference in actual video quality between the versions. The DVD has the best quality, though it has some strange color filters at some parts. (All I Ask of You and the Final Lair are weirdly blue?? WHY??) The broadcasts are watchable, but the audio can be not as clean at parts, a little more difficult to hear the leads and way more heavy breathing, snorts, and sniffles. I’m not sure if there are subtitles out there for the broadcast version, but that is something else to consider.
Tumblr media
Overall I would recommend watching the DVD version with your friends, and for any other first timers. It was edited to make the performance accessible and easy to follow for a home audience, and I think it does a good job in that. If you’d like to think it over some more, I have a few videos that directly compare the DVD and broadcast V1 side by side, you can find them linked below. 🥰 Happy watching, I hope your friends fall in love with POTO too!

POORLY DRAWN GROGU EVERYDAY UNTIL 2022 ENDS: DAY 163
Tumblr media
Someone’s been listening to phantom of the opera 25th anniversary at the royal albert hall from 2011 (it’s me.)
Side note I made the unfortunate connection between ramin karimloo’s phantom giving me gender envy AND making me like characters that wear masks. So.

Seeing the recent posts re: Shatter me , I wanted to ask you if you have actually any good books in mind following the enemies to lovers trope ( actually, well, something with Darklina vibes. y'know :D ) . I would prefer not YA stuff, but tbh if the prose /plot is decent, I don't mind. Thanks!!
Contemporary Romance
Hotshot Doc by R.S. Grey (I actually LOVE this one it's soooo cute! It would work perfectly as a modern au with darkles as a notoriously mean surgeon and alina as his assistant)
Vicious by L.J. Shen (this dude is the kind of chaotic asshole you can't look away from, heroine is a bit too quirky for my taste, but it did keep me entertained)
Young Adult / New Adult Fantasy
The Folk of the Air Trilogy (the OG of enemies to lovers; one of my favourite heroines!)
Kingdom of the Wicked (not strictly enemies to lovers per se but a girl has to make a deal with a demon prince so what's not to love?)
The Shadows Between Us (a *very* trashy read, but the male lead has shadow powers so there's some obvious darklina parallels there)
A Court of Thorns & Roses (the Rhysand/Feyre dynamic is the one that reminds me of Darklina more than Tamlin/Feyre even though that's also got an enemies to lovers thing going on. Though full disclosure, I gave up on the second book because it was so fucking long and insufferable...)
From Blood & Ash (more of a bodyguard romance but its very deceptive with how it pulls you in!)
Movies/ TV Shows
North & South (2004 Miniseries) - aahsdjkh I love this one! It's probably my fave out of the gothic romances
Jane Eyre (2006 Miniseries) - I mean, sure, you could read the book, but this is a perfectly moody adaptation
Phantom of the Opera (Royal Albert Hall 2011) - this is a filmed version of the stage production and Ramin Karimloo as the Phantom is 🔥🔥🔥👀👀!!! Sorry, but Gerard Butler and his garbage voice could never!!!!
I think you'll find similiar Darklina dynamics if you follow the Beauty & the Beast tropes. There are a lot of YA retellings but I've yet to find one that I really liked. The closest was maybe "A Curse So Dark and Lonely" but I ended up shipping the cursed prince with the captain of his guard so......👀
