i think it’s cool how when they make a saw movie they shoot everything and give all the footage to the editor but they won’t let him start until he’s taken a bunch of meth

Zero Day (2002)
#movies film cinema#zero day#ben coccio#I actually talked to the director on Facebook super nice guy and he told#me a lot about the filmmaking process and even helped me with tips on directing non-actors and new actors#I remember him telling me to always be supportive and tell your new actors they're doing a good job even if they aren't in the first take#cause you can instill confidence and still reshape and change their choices and mistakes later#Sometimes I'd message him for advice when I was running into problems on some of my early projects#he told me once ''did ya choose to collaborate with this actor cause you were lonely or you guys had passion and chemistry''#“collaborating is like a relationship” and he was so right#there's nothing worse than working with people you disdain cause there's no communication and no trust.#he told me how he wrote the first couple of drafts of Place Beyond the Pines but his take on the 3rd act wasn't clicking for the director#so he took the script and went and had another writer rewrite the 3rd act but he liked the process cause he learned a lot and still got pai#but I'd still like to see Ben Coccio's take on Place Beyond The Pines he says the 1st and 2nd act are mostly unchanged#Ryan Gosling's scenes are still mostly the same he said but he couldn't tell me too much cause of the NDA he signed#The bloopers of Zero Day are hilarious his tip he gave me about being supportive#“This is actually great but can we-” and Cal interrupts him “He says that no matter what if you're doing good or bad!” and everyone lols#I hope I can make it and ask him to collab with me on a script#He's such a nice dude compared to the harrowing film he made.#I wish there was BTS but he had only one tape to film on and this was made when digital camcorders were infants#I think he had only one 2 hour tape that's how low budget#The bloopers is just Cal or Andre secretly filming and Ben getting annoyed “Is it recording?” and Cal going “Nah..."#Cal is such a funny guy IRL I wanna see him act more cause he's so good. He was so great at playing a sadistic psychopath in this.#the final shooting is so harrowing and disturbing#I told Ben he srsly gut punched me/disturbed me and this is what made him really open up.

sometimes letterboxd is THE stupidest fucking community in the world i swear to god. tell me why i have to see a whole garden variety of 0.5-1 star reviews of a movie with an openly queer protagonist who, over the course of her coming of age narrative explores and reaffirms her queerness and remains openly and happily queer, that are all calling it an "anti-gay narrative/propaganda". be so fucking serious right now. does anyone in this thread do mushrooms

The reason we hate on regulily sm and not other ships is because atp people ship anything so who cares right but regulily is oppressor x oppresed. How are you going to ship a blood purist with the good girl in hp that hated blood purists. You making regulus be lily’s “short bf dyke whatever” is plain weird
listen you’re allowed to hate regulily !!! you’re not seeing me throwing a childish tantrum about it 😭😭but like. these characters are fictional… they do not exist. and like why are you, a regulily hater, on my blog enough to know the characterizations ive given them ?? like what are you genuinely even getting out of that when you could be having fun !!! in fandoms !!! and surround yourself with people who like what you like !! like fandom is supposed to be !!!! how does a whole ass stranger on tumblr.com/dashboard having fun shipping something bother you this much 😭

look there r critiques to be made abt the characterization of movie!Faramir but he’s actually so important to me. the fact he Is tempted and that his temptation mirrors Boromir’s in that they’re both centered around love means so much to me, actually

down to the core ghibli/miyazaki films are about true unwavering love. whether it’s familial, romantic, or platonic love.
that’s what makes those animes so special and unique.

Hey man metroid dread was just GREAT. Still thinking about it—got it for christmas 2021. It’s short but since I got the 100% I dropped like 30 hours into it (I do not know of this ‘speedrun’ of which yall speak). Probably the best fusion sequel you could ask for. Scary as hell. Lots of fluids. Samus is such a badass and dear lord the way this woman MOVES. On a mf mission. The blue? Great color on her. Mwuah cant wait for prime 4.
On a similar note I think the world is in need of some new “t for teen” games. I was one of those lucky kids that was able to play t games from a super young age but m games? Oh boy did I have to fight tooth and nail for that. My parents indulged the metal gear ramblings for most of middle school and I had actually bought a copy of mgs3 without owning a playstation yet since it was only $8 at the time (things sure have changed a lot in….six years I think? Wow I’m old). I think my mom was like *okay* with that one since I bought it with my own money and it has a stellar political thriller element to it so at least I’d maybe learn something? Anyways when I was 15 I got a ps3 for christmas, and it game with a couple of games from the seller (assassin’s creed 2, modern warfare, bioshock, a ghost recon, the first resistance game, force unleashed, I think a cabela’s shooter?, most interestingly—kane and lynch 1, some other cods and stuff). I thought long and hard and really dug into review scores to decide which games I wanted to keep and which ones I probably wouldn’t get much out of (I’m just not a big cod fan…) and I parted ways with kane and lynch. Whether my mom liked it or not there were m-rated games in the house now, but at least her daughter had enough foresight to remove that vile-looking thing from the area. She went on to let me play all no more heroes titles (which I also bought with my own money—I was the biggest free advertisement for nhm3 in town) so let that be a lesson that everything exists on a scale. Sometimes I regret that decision to resell kane and lynch—I like to consider myself someone willing to play or watch or do anything at least once. Art is art, even if I don’t like a particular piece.
My point is—great stories can be told with any sort of rating. I’ve played excellent t-rated games (twilight princess, the metroid franchise, most fighting games) and some life-changing m-rated games (metal gear, devil may cry, bioshock even though the ending sucks, rdr1 HOLY SHIT THAT GAME STOPPED ME FROM KILLING MYSELF, hell even darkness 2 has some of the most innovative fps gameplay I’ve ever seen). My game of the year last year was astro bot (e10). I just got puyo puyo tetris 2 on steam to play with friends on discord. It’s all around you man. Everything—EVERYTHING that is a labor of love is right in front of you. I’m a firm believer in consuming media of all types and shapes and formats and themes, but if you got a mom who doesn’t like swearing, sometimes it’s nice to have a t-rated adventure game you can play in the background of her phone call

One thing that was kinda ingrained in me while storyboarding on Big City Greens was screen direction and the sort of illusion of progress that screen direction can create (this isn't just a BCG thing by the way, it's an actual film technique but this is where i learned it)
It wasn't a hard rule or anything but our showrunners generally preferred to have the characters going from left to right as the story/episode progressed (you'll probably notice this in a lot of movies now if you didn't know about this before haha). I've definitely had to restage sequences due to this rule when I first started LOL but it's become second nature to me at this point. Whenever a character moves left to right, in my brain, that means they're moving the story forward, much like how when you read it's usually left to right and you yourself are moving the story forward (obviously this is a more western thing).
I, in hindsight, realized I was doing this in my pilot. When I was first visualizing the pilot I always imagined Aika going from screen right to left at the beginning of the episode for some reason. I didn't really give it much thought but afterwards I asked myself why I did that, because I always start characters going left to right. It just felt correct in my head and now I'm understanding why. Because she's running away, actively trying to get away from the story and the goal. It's not until she gets to the cafeteria and starts moving left to right, towards Zira, who unknowingly is going to be the reason Aika has to dive back into her story. Then from that point on the left to right screen direction continues (even into the credits). I thought it was cool that my brain was just wired to do that after all these years but also a nice reminder about how important but subtle filmmaking and cinematography is. I think a lot of people do this even if they don't know the technique!
Idk why I felt like sharing this LOL. Just thought it was funny and maybe helpful for anyone looking to get into storyboarding or filmmaking! I actually don't know if there's a technical term for this? This video calls it Lateral Character Movement so maybe it's that!
youtube
but yeah anyways thought it'd be fun to share. I LOVE ART!!!

Hermen Hulst And Hideaki Nishino Named Dual PlayStation CEOs Following Jim Ryan's Departure
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Sony has appointed Hermen Hulst and Hideaki Nishino as dual CEOs of PlayStation, following Jim Ryan’s departure from the company this spring; they will begin June 1. Ryan announced he was leaving PlayStation last year, with Sony Group Corporation COO and CFO Hiroki Totoki stepping in as interim CEO following his departure in March. After that brief stint, PlayStation is tackling the CEO position with two figures, each with different focuses.
Hulst has been appointed CEO of SIE’s Studio Business Group while Nishino has been appointed CEO of SIE’s Platform Business Group. Totoki, now through as interim CEO, will serve as a Chairman of SIE in addition to returning to his role as COO and CFO of Sony Group Corporation. Both Nishino and Hulst will report to Totoki.

“Sony Interactive Entertainment is a dynamic and growing business that delivers incredible entertainment experiences through the connection of content and technology,” Totoki writes in a press release. “These two leaders will have clear responsibilities and will manage strategic direction to ensure the focus remains on deepening engagement with existing PlayStation users and expanding experiences to new audiences.”
Nishino was the senior vice president of PlayStation’s Platform Experience Group, “responsible for developing the experiences and technology with PlayStation products and services,” including the PlayStation 5, PlayStation VR2, and PlayStation Network. Sony says in his new CEO position, he will continue to be responsible for technology, products, services, and platform experiences. He will also oversee third party publisher and developer relations and commercial operations, including sales and marketing of hardware, services, and peripherals, the press release reads.
“We will continue to connect players through world-class products, services, and technology,” Nishino writes. “We always strive to grow our community even bigger with innovation in every area at Sony Interactive Entertainment. I am honored to be appointed such an important role alongside Hermen. By working more closely together, we will be positioned to build incredible experiences for an ever-expanding audience now and in the future.”

Hulst was the senior vice president and PlayStation Studios head, responsible for “developing content across many devices including PlayStation consoles and PCs, and bringing video game IP to new mediums such as film and television through PlayStation Productions.” As CEO, Hulst will be responsible for the development, publishing, and business operations of first party content.
“I am thrilled to lead the studio business group and continue to build on our success with PlayStation 5, while preparing for the future,” he writes in the press release. “The video game industry is one of the largest entertainment industries in the world and has been built on the marriage of content and technology, and I look forward to continuing to push the boundaries of play and entertainment.”
Totoki says in a separate blog post that later this month, players will “learn more about the long-term vision for Sony Group and the essential role SIE plays in that vision,” hinting that the company might have some kind of event happening in May. He adds, “[Fiscal Year 2024] marks the start of the Mid-Range Plan period for Sony Group in which we will set the course for sustainable growth.”
