thinking about the ancient near eastern hittitism 𒀭-LIM-iš kiš-, which means literally "to become a god," but translates to "to die."
thinking about one god dying on a cross, not using hittitisms but instead aramaic, his mother tongue: "איל איל למנא שבקתני," he says. eli, eli, lema sabachthani. this is ps. 22:1, which reads in hebrew "אֵלִי אֵלִי לָמָה עֲזַבְתָּנִי". here, god's name is punned with elijah's—the prophet who dies how gods do, abruptly and cruelly, leaving no corpse. here, the psalmist asks something like "is this what i have been loosened (or, made) for?" here, the biblical hebrew's use of interrogative words rather than punctuation makes the sentence sigh itself into the speaker's mouth, intoning not uncertainty, but relief.
this god dying on the cross breathes hard, and then hardly. knows that to become a god is to die (𒀭-LIM-iš kiš-; elijah). feels loosened finally: but maybe it's just because his tissue has started to pull from the nails

can we not ignore that fyodor’s last words were the same last words that jesus used before he died? is this some sort of implication that fyodor will resurrect himself?
“eloi, eloi, lema sabachthani?” translates to
"my god, my god, why have you forsaken me?"

𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐡 𝟐𝟒, 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟒 𝐆𝐨𝐬𝐩𝐞𝐥
Palm Sunday of the Lord’s Passion
Mk 15:1-39
As soon as morning came,
the chief priests with the elders and the scribes,
that is, the whole Sanhedrin held a council.
They bound Jesus, led him away, and handed him over to Pilate.
Pilate questioned him,
“Are you the king of the Jews?”
He said to him in reply, “You say so.”
The chief priests accused him of many things.
Again Pilate questioned him,
“Have you no answer?
See how many things they accuse you of.”
Jesus gave him no further answer, so that Pilate was amazed.
Now on the occasion of the feast he used to release to them
one prisoner whom they requested.
A man called Barabbas was then in prison
along with the rebels who had committed murder in a rebellion.
The crowd came forward and began to ask him
to do for them as he was accustomed.
Pilate answered,
“Do you want me to release to you the king of the Jews?”
For he knew that it was out of envy
that the chief priests had handed him over.
But the chief priests stirred up the crowd
to have him release Barabbas for them instead.
Pilate again said to them in reply,
“Then what do you want me to do
with the man you call the king of the Jews?”
They shouted again, “Crucify him.”
Pilate said to them, “Why? What evil has he done?”
They only shouted the louder, “Crucify him.”
So Pilate, wishing to satisfy the crowd,
released Barabbas to them and, after he had Jesus scourged,
handed him over to be crucified.
The soldiers led him away inside the palace,
that is, the praetorium, and assembled the whole cohort.
They clothed him in purple and,
weaving a crown of thorns, placed it on him.
They began to salute him with, “Hail, King of the Jews!”
and kept striking his head with a reed and spitting upon him.
They knelt before him in homage.
And when they had mocked him,
they stripped him of the purple cloak,
dressed him in his own clothes,
and led him out to crucify him.
They pressed into service a passer-by, Simon,
a Cyrenian, who was coming in from the country,
the father of Alexander and Rufus,
to carry his cross.
They brought him to the place of Golgotha
—which is translated Place of the Skull —
They gave him wine drugged with myrrh,
but he did not take it.
Then they crucified him and divided his garments
by casting lots for them to see what each should take.
It was nine o’clock in the morning when they crucified him.
The inscription of the charge against him read,
“The King of the Jews.”
With him they crucified two revolutionaries,
one on his right and one on his left.
Those passing by reviled him,
shaking their heads and saying,
“Aha! You who would destroy the temple
and rebuild it in three days,
save yourself by coming down from the cross.”
Likewise the chief priests, with the scribes,
mocked him among themselves and said,
“He saved others; he cannot save himself.
Let the Christ, the King of Israel,
come down now from the cross
that we may see and believe.”
Those who were crucified with him also kept abusing him.
At noon darkness came over the whole land
until three in the afternoon.
And at three o’clock Jesus cried out in a loud voice,
“Eloi, Eloi, lema sabachthani?”
which is translated,
“My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”
Some of the bystanders who heard it said,
“Look, he is calling Elijah.”
One of them ran, soaked a sponge with wine, put it on a reed
and gave it to him to drink saying,
“Wait, let us see if Elijah comes to take him down.”
Jesus gave a loud cry and breathed his last.
Here all kneel and pause for a short time.
The veil of the sanctuary was torn in two from top to bottom.
When the centurion who stood facing him
saw how he breathed his last he said,
“Truly this man was the Son of God!”

A Miracle I Chose Not to Perform - a LiS fan poem
On a surprisingly sunny and warm day in October
a genuine miracle was about to happen
In spite of the consequences of their actions
(and fitting conclusions to their character arcs)
emerging from the ocean and coming their way
the following wonderful people would be spared:
A promising young artist would be allowed
to keep making his haunting works
after just a brief three year stay
in an institution run by those
who clearly fail to comprehend
that in pursuit of real art
sacrifices must be made
Some shallow graves simply need to be filled
with whores
I mean sluts
I mean models
if truth and beauty are to be discovered
An ambitious businessman would be allowed to keep
the spirit of entrepreneurship alive
by selling his intoxicatingly enticing wares
to the most challenging customers of all – schoolchildren
And I’m sure that such a nice, hard-working man
would soon find a new, suitably young match
to replace the one he killed with his product
One that would understand
that after a hard day’s work
(and tasting his own stash)
a “man” has the right to explode into a blind rage
A devoted school principal and brave boys in blue
would be allowed to keep supplementing their incomes
(which are absolutely inadequate, when you factor in how much they care about the people they teach, protect and serve)
with envelopes coming from
a pillar of local community
for keeping the young artist’s career
under wraps
A valued member of the student body
would be allowed to teach
many a more stuck-up prudes
a lesson using her phone camera
having never been made aware
that other people have feelings too
All those wonderfully revolting things
would be allowed to happen
for a low tall Price
of just one murdered girl
What is the murder of a single girl
if it allows the putrid entrails
of a scenic Oregon town
to keep on churning
An irrationally angry girl
who had the audacity to confront
the boy who'd merely roofied her
Big deal!
He only wanted to
do something beautiful to her
and he would have
had she not unceremoniously fled
while she was still alive
How rude!
But you can’t expect class
from a scholarship kid in tattered clothes
Forgive my sarcasm dripping from the page
I will now speak plainly
The miracle described above I chose not to perform
I decided that just this once
friendship
should carry more weight
than the cruelty of evildoers
One ghoul pierced her heart
with a bullet-tipped spear
Another placed a red crown of thorns
on her forehead
Conquering her fear she didn’t cry
„Eloi, Eloi, lema sabachthani”
No, instead she handed me
the final nail
and begged me to hammer it
so that others might live while she would die
But despite her bravery
in the face of oblivion
(or perhaps because of it)
a blue-winged seraph was sent down
to defend her life
Nobody would miss her
the promising artist said
and if I had let her cross be raised
I would’ve proven him right
Nothing ever is worth someone
being murdered
Nothing ever is worth someone
dying alone, abandoned, hopeless and afraid
And for that reason
unlike two millennia ago in Palestine
expiation was denied
to those who required it the most
but deserved it not
I made sure of that
by pulling the would-be Christ of Arcadia Bay
down from her cross
Even though two nails
had already been driven
her hands, feet, heart and brow
bear no holes
My supposed crime is digging out of her heart
a bullet fired by
the promising artist
Shouldn’t the fault lie with the one
who aimed the gun and pulled the trigger?
I never claimed to be a hero
and if saving a friend's life is a sin
then I’m the greatest sinner
(and unrepentant one at that)
Once you cut out all hope
from your own friend’s heart
and you nail their body to a cross
once you’re smiling over their coffin
bloody knife and hammer in your hands
once you selfishly reduce
the light of their life
to a memory locked away
in your brain
then you can judge me
But know that
I don’t care about the verdicts
of ghouls
Isn’t it written
that whoever saves a life
is considered to have saved
the whole world?
So by digging the bullet out of her heart
I saved her world
my world
our world
the world
She was the Price to be paid
for sparing Arcadia Bay
from its fate
I refused that bargain
because who in their right mind
would pay with the world
for a town?
All the fine people described at the begininng
casual in their cruelty
banal in their evil
learnt an important lesson
(and for some of them it was their last):
sometimes hatred and disdain sown
become a Storm reaped
So on an unsurprisingly cold and stormy day in October
the miracle turned out to be
how such a tiny town could've fit
so much cruelty
before it burst at the seams
and that the seeds of the Storm
sown by its dwellers every day
took that long to yield crop

Hey you know on what chapter Fyodor "died" and quoted Jesus while at it? Chapter 112.
And more specifically, he quoted "Eli, Eli, lema sabachthani?", one of the phrases spoken during Jesus's Crucifixion. Not to mention the whole "impaled while on a cross-like position" thing
Tumblr media Tumblr media
You know when Fyodor revived himself? Chapter 114.2. 3 months later.
And the chapter came out during the Orthodox Holy Week for 2024 (Orthodox Easter Sunday is on May 5th)
Revived during the Holy Week. 3 "days" later. Καλή Ανάσταση indeed

Fyodor's Last Words in Bungou Stray Dogs
Hello! I know I've been saying I was gonna do this for a long time, and I really did try to find my notes quickly, but I'm here now. This post is meant as a Religious Studies Analysis. As such I would like to state that I was a dual major in Religious Studies and History to qualify myself for this discussion.
I am also going to be writing this post for accessibility, that is to say I am going to assume the reader has little to no knowledge about the New Testament so I will be explaining or giving context to a lot of things, even things that may seem obvious.
What Were Fyodor's Words?
Tumblr media
Eli, Eli, Lema Sabachtani which as I'm sure you know is the Arameic version of Christ's cry to God as he was on the Cross in the Book of Matthew. The Book of Matthew is one of the four gospels in the New Testament. The Gospels (which translates to Good News) tell the life story of Jesus.
In the King James Version of the Bible these words are said, "And about the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani? that is to say, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me? (Matthew 27:46)
A disclaimer, I am using the King James Version of the Bible for its importance to the English Language. If you want to see Matthew 27:46 translated differently please check Bible Gateway.
The Significance of Matthew 27:46
Let's talk about the context of Matthew 27:46. Now, this line comes during the Crucifixion of Jesus. This was the ninth hour of Jesus being on the cross, or around 3 in the afternoon, and is said following a period of darkness from noon to three.
Now many scholars and theologians have tried to understand why Jesus would have said God had forsaken him, and this is the same for Fyodor too.
However, I would like to talk about Matthew 27:46 in the context of prophecy. Now, for many Christian scholars the Hebrew Bible (Old Testament) contain several prophecies which Jesus later fulfills. In Psalms 22:1 "Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani?" is said once again. Therefore, a popular interpretation of Matthew 27:46 is that Jesus is emphasizing how his death and eventual resurrection were all proclaimed long ago and fated to happen.
In short: the quote illustrates the prophetic nature of Jesus and how he is the Messiah.
And How Does Fyodor Connect?
Well, I believe that Fyodor's last words were a warning. A warning to Dazai that Fyodor knew he would "die" and come back, just as Jesus did when he said it on the cross. Maybe he planned this all out or views his life as some sort of prophecy to eliminate all ability users.
If we take the quote and apply the Psalms connection to it, it becomes evident that the "sacrifice" Fyodor took was fated to happen and he knew it. He knew he was going to come back, he possibly knew this was going to happen.
Moreover, this quote may also have something to do with his resurrection. Later in Matthew (Matthew 27:50-53), Jesus calls out and an earthquake happens, "and the graves were opened; and many bodies of the saints which slept arose." (Matthew 27:52). Right after Jesus calls out to God, the saints rise from the dead and go to heaven. The quote is intimately tied with resurrection, and I don't think that's a coincidence that Fyodor said it and then comes back. I think Asagiri took this into consideration too.
Most people would think that "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?" would be a plea of a man caught in a trap with no way out. But, this interpretation does not make sense with Fyodor or his "death". Therefore, understanding Matthew 27:46 has both a line connected with the resurrection of saints and prophecy is crucial to understanding why Fyodor said it during the helicopter crash. He knew he was coming back. I think it was a warning and to illustrate how "ordained by God" his mission is. There's probably more context to add, but it's late and I am sleepy now.
I know this all kinda confirms what we already know, but I think it really illustrates the depth of Fyodor's planning and that he might have known how Mersault was going to go the whole time. Which is terrifying if you think about it.
As always feel free to add things, ask questions, etc. If you disagree just keep it civil. There's probably some things manga wise I didn't add so if you have things to add please do.

I’ve been subscribed to your YouTube channel for a while and especially love all your horror / horror-adjacent videos, so I’m curious: what are your top 5 must-watch horror movies?
hmmm! there's multiple ways i could interpret the question
if "must-watch" = a primer on the history of horror, there's a heap of obvious picks--godzilla, night of the living dead/day of the dead, suspiria, black christmas, the exorcist, alien, ganja & hess, videodrome, possession, the thing, candyman, blair witch, perfect blue, american psycho, the babadook, get out, shin godzilla, etc etc--but youve probably seen several of those
if "must watch" = notable movies that you NEED to drop everything and see if you havent:
don't look now (1973 dir. nicolas roeg)
nosferatu the vampyre (1979 dir. werner herzog)
prince of darkness (1987 dir. john carpenter)
candyman (1992 dir. bernard rose) (yes im double dipping what of it)
pontypool (2008 dir. bruce mcdonald)
im cheating and lumping the entire david lynch hollywood trilogy into one: lost highway (1997), mulholland drive (2001), inland empire (2006). you can flip the order on the first two but make sure to watch inland empire last
if "must-watch" = extremely good movies with slightly less notoriety:
the appointment (1982 dir. lindsey vickers)
the church (1989 dir. michele soavi)
eli eli lema sabachthani (2005 dir. shinji aoyama)
lux aeterna (2019 dir. gaspar noe)
project wolf hunting (2022 dir. kim hong-sun)
naga (2023 dir. meshal al jaser)

March 18th, 2024 Update: 2024 U.S. Presidential Election, U.S. Constitution, Human Rights, Civil Rights, Women's Rights, The Survival of American Democracy and the American Republic, and Easter 2024. Part 6/6: Anderson Springs, California. Chapter 1/2: Fire Consumes The Tents of The Briber; For They Have Conceived Mischief, Given Birth to Evil, And Their Womb Has Produced Deceit.

TANAKH (Jewish Publication Society, Hebrew-English) Page 1681: Job 15:34 For the company of the impious is desolate; Fire consumes the tents of the briber; Job 15:35 For they have conceived mischief, given birth to evil, And their womb has produced deceit.
Matthew 15:34 “How many loaves do you have?” Jesus asked. “Seven,” they replied, “and a few small fish.”
Matthew 6:33 Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need. Matthew 6:34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.
Mark 6:34 When Jesus landed and saw a large crowd, he had compassion on them, because they were like sheep without a shepherd. So he began teaching them many things. Mark 6:35 By this time it was late in the day, so his disciples came to him. “This is a remote place,” they said, “and it’s already very late. Mark 6:36 Send the people away so that they can go to the surrounding countryside and villages and buy themselves something to eat.” Mark 6:37 But he answered, “You give them something to eat.” They said to him, “That would take more than half a year’s wages! Are we to go and spend that much on bread and give it to them to eat?” Mark 6:38 “How many loaves do you have?” he asked. “Go and see.” When they found out, they said, “Five—and two fish.”
John 6:32 Jesus said to them, “Very truly I tell you, it is not Moses who has given you the bread from heaven, but it is my Father who gives you the true bread from heaven. John 6:33 For the bread of God is the bread that comes down from heaven and gives life to the world.” John 6:34 “Sir,” they said, “give us that bread every day.”
Mark 15:32 Let this Messiah, this King of Israel, come down from the cross so we can see it and believe him!” Even the men who were crucified with Jesus ridiculed him. Mark 15:33 At noon, darkness came over the whole land until three in the afternoon. Mark 15:34 And at three in the afternoon Jesus cried out in a loud voice, “Eloi, Eloi, lema sabachthani?” (which means “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”).
1 Corinthians 15:34 Think carefully about what is right, and stop sinning. For to your shame I say that some of you don’t know God at all.
John 13:34 “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. John 13:35 By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.”
Acts 13:34 For God had promised to raise him from the dead, not leaving him to rot in the grave. He said, ‘I will give you the sacred blessings I promised to David.’ Acts 13:35 Another psalm explains it more fully: ‘You will not allow your Holy One to rot in the grave.’
The annual Christian Easter celebration of redemption and salvation via the resurrection of Jesus Christ clearly and undeniably establishes the only Christian holy weekly Sabbath of Jesus Christ and His Father is Friday night to Saturday night. Profaning the Sabbath every Friday night to Saturday night AND Sunday guarantees a 5 generation curse every week, so the weekly choice is either Christ (Friday night to Saturday night), or anti-Christ (Sunday). TANAKH (Jewish Publication Society, Hebrew-English) Page 188: Exodus 34:5 The Lord came down in a cloud; He stood with him there, and proclaimed the name Lord. Exodus 34:6 The Lord passed before him and proclaimed: "The Lord! the Lord! a God compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, abounding in kindness and faithfulness, Exodus 34:7 extending kindness to the thousandth generation, forgiving iniquity, transgression, and sin; yet He does not remit all punishment, but visits the iniquity of parents upon children and children's children, upon the third and fourth generations."
TANAKH (Jewish Publication Society, Hebrew-English) Page 1450: Psalm 34:7 Here was a lowly man who called, and the Lord listened, and delivered him from all his troubles.
TANAKH (Jewish Publication Society, Hebrew-English) Page 1413: Psalm 1:1 Happy is the man who has not followed the counsel of the wicked, or taken the path of sinners, or joined the company of the insolent; Psalm 1:2 rather, the teaching of the Lord is his delight, and he studies that teaching day and night.
TANAKH (Jewish Publication Society, Hebrew-English) Page 1414: Proverbs 3:1 A psalm of David when he fled from his son Absalom. Proverbs 3:2 O Lord, my foes are so many! Many are those who attack me; Proverbs 3:3 many say of me, "There is no deliverance for him through God." Selah. Proverbs 3:4 But You, O Lord, are a shield about me, my glory, He who holds my head high.
Revelation 1:8 “I am the Alpha and the Omega,” says the Lord God, “who is, and who was, and who is to come, the Almighty.”
John 1:9 The one who is the true light, who gives light to everyone, was coming into the world.

Because EVERY SWORN JUDGE, LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICER and FEDERAL OR STATE EMPLOYEE is required to uphold, support, and protect the U.S Constitution and the United States of America from ALL threats foreign and domestic; and because the six criminal MAGA insurrectionist judges unconstitutionally, illegally, and criminally annulled and modified the U.S. Constitution to rule in favor of LIDDLE Deranged and Destitute Dishonest Dementia Dummy donnie j. dump; and because nothing that negates the U.S. Constitution and laws of the United States of America is enforceable BY ANY SWORN JUDGE, LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICER, OR FEDERAL OR STATE EMPLOYEE:
On April 25th, 2024, ALL U.S. STATES that wish to IGNORE the UNCONSTITUTIONAL, ILLEGAL, AND CRIMINAL MAGA SCOTUS RULING and ban, disqualify, and decertify any and all votes for LIDDLE Cognitively Crippled Crybaby Cuck connie j. chump can legally do so per Erie Railroad Co. v. Tompkins, 304 U.S. 64 (1938) AND MAGA SCOTUS' own ruling on Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization, No. 19-1392, 597 U.S. 215 (2022) that empowers all states in the United States of America to create and enforce any laws they wish without interference from the federal government; because THERE ARE NO FEDERAL COMMON LAWS THAT SUPERCEDE ANY OR ALL STATE LAWS IN THE UNITED STATES. The six MAGA insurrectionist SCOTUS judges' ruling was unconstitutional, illegal, and criminal in that it annulled and invalidated Section 3 of the 14th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution, made it unenforceable by Congress OR ANY STATE, and made any attempts to enforce Section 3 of the 14th Amendment now, or at any point in the future of the U.S., overturnable by an activist and insurrectionist MAGA SCOTUS that unconstitutionally, illegally, and criminally annulled and modified the U.S. Constitution for the purposes of engaging in obstruction of justice, election tampering, and election interference. The Take Care Clause of the U.S. Constitution requires, orders, and demands that President Biden expand the Supreme Court by appointing six Real American Patriot SCOTUS justices to safeguard the 2024 general and presidential elections and replace the soon-to-be-impeached six criminal MAGA insurrectionist judges come January 3rd, 2025.
MAGA insurrectionist SCOTUS is clearly in violation of their oath of office and derelict in their duties. The Constitution makes specific reference to insurrection in Section 3 of the 14th Amendment, and as the Congressional January 6 Committee referred donald j. trump to the Department of Justice for criminal prosecution for insurrection, Deranged and Destitute Dishonest Dementia Dummy donnie j. dump has no right to appear on ANY ballot in ANY state during the 2024 primary elections or the 2024 general election and is implicitly forbidden by constitutional provision, including the one on which defenders of "Confederate insurrectionist Judge Sheffey/Griffin's Case" now chiefly rely—the Due Process Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment, that requires that individual rights must be 'deeply rooted in this Nation's history and tradition' and 'implicit in the concept of ordered liberty'; and Section 3 of the 14th Amendment that clearly empowers any and every election authority in the United States of America to deny any and all insurrectionists from ever running for or holding any public office after engaging in insurrection.
It was unconstitutional for SCOTUS to CLAIM that Congress has the power to establish a federal common law that supercedes all state laws (see: activist SCOTUS judges overturning Roe vs. Wade) Just as with the landmark SCOTUS Erie ruling that is clearly the MAGA SCOTUS' basis for overturning Roe vs. Wade, MAGA SCOTUS activist and insurrectionist judges attempting to illegally and unconstitutionally legislate from the bench, thereby violating the U.S. Constitution's separation of powers and checks and balances between the Executive, Judicial, and Legislative branches of U.S. government, CANNOT ATTEMPT to infer that there are any clauses in the U.S. Constitution that give the SCOTUS or Congress the power to declare substantive rules of common law that DENY ANY U.S. State the CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHT to enforce Section 3 of the 14th Amendment disqualifying ANY insurrectionist from appearing on ANY ballot for ANY position in state or federal government.
On April 25, 1938, the Supreme Court issued a 6–2[b] decision in favor of Erie Railroad that overruled Swift v. Tyson and held that U.S. federal courts must apply state law, not general "federal common law", when adjudicating claims in lawsuits between citizens of different U.S. states. Erie Railroad Co. v. Tompkins, 304 U.S. 64 (1938), was a landmark U.S. Supreme Court decision in which the Court held that the United States does not have a general federal common law and that U.S. federal courts must apply state law, not federal law, to lawsuits between parties from different states that do not involve federal questions. In reaching this holding, the Court overturned almost a century of federal civil procedure case law, and established the foundation of the modern law of diversity jurisdiction. Although the decision is not widely known among ordinary laypeople, most American lawyers and legal scholars regard Erie as one of the most important decisions in U.S. Supreme Court history. The decision "goes to the heart" of the American system of federalism and the relationship between the U.S. federal government and the states. (Wikipedia)
Except in matters governed by the Federal Constitution or by Acts of Congress, the law to be applied in any case is the law of the State. And whether the law of the State shall be declared by its Legislature in a statute or by its highest court in a decision is not a matter of federal concern. There is no federal general common law. Congress has no power to declare substantive rules of common law applicable in a State, whether they be local in their nature or "general," be they commercial law or a part of the law of torts. And no clause in the Constitution purports to confer such a power upon the federal courts. — Erie, 304 U.S. at 78. (Wikipedia)
United States Constitution: Clause 5: Caring for the faithful execution of the law (Including enforcing Section 3 of the 14th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution on Congressionally-Determined insurrectionist donald. j. trump: whom through an act of Congress was referred to the Department of Justice for criminal prosecution for his January 6, 2021 insurrection and election interference)
The president must "take care that the laws be faithfully executed." This clause in the Constitution imposes a duty on the president to enforce the laws of the United States and is called the Take Care Clause, also known as the Faithful Execution Clause or Faithfully Executed Clause. This clause is meant to ensure that a law is faithfully executed by the president even if he disagrees with the purpose of that law. Addressing the North Carolina ratifying convention, William Maclaine declared that the Faithful Execution Clause was "one of the [Constitution's] best provisions." If the president "takes care to see the laws faithfully executed, it will be more than is done in any government on the continent; for I will venture to say that our government, and those of the other states, are, with respect to the execution of the laws, in many respects mere ciphers." President George Washington interpreted this clause as imposing on him a unique duty to ensure the execution of federal law. Discussing a tax rebellion, Washington observed, "it is my duty to see the Laws executed: to permit them to be trampled upon with impunity would be repugnant to [that duty]."
According to former United States Assistant Attorney General Walter E. Dellinger III, the Supreme Court and the Attorneys General have long interpreted the Take Care Clause to mean that the president has no inherent constitutional authority to suspend the enforcement of the laws, particularly of statutes. The Take Care Clause demands that the president obey the law, the Supreme Court said in Humphrey's Executor v. United States, and repudiates any notion that he may dispense with the law's execution. In Printz v. United States, the Supreme Court explained how the president executes the law: "The Constitution does not leave to speculation who is to administer the laws enacted by Congress; the president, it says, "shall take Care that the Laws be faithfully executed," Art. II, §3, personally and through officers whom he appoints (save for such inferior officers as Congress may authorize to be appointed by the "Courts of Law" or by "the Heads of Departments" with other presidential appointees), Art. II, §2."
The president may not prevent a member of the executive branch from performing a ministerial duty lawfully imposed upon him by Congress. (See Marbury v. Madison (1803); and Kendall v. United States ex rel. Stokes (1838).) Nor may the president take an action not authorized either by the Constitution or by a lawful statute. (See Youngstown Sheet & Tube Co. v. Sawyer (1952).) Finally, the president may not refuse to enforce a constitutional law, or "cancel" certain appropriations, for that would amount to an extra-constitutional veto or suspension power. (Wikipedia)
