Sometimes it's not what you are known for, it's the little things that no one even knew about.
Jerome ("Jerry") Lester Horwitz was born on October 22, 1903, one of five brothers born to Lithuanian-Jewish parents in Brooklyn. His full formal Hebrew name was "Yehudah Lev ben Shlomo Natan ha Levi."
He, and one of his brothers, and a friend would land on Adolf Hitler’s death list.
Jerry was known as a "knucklehead" - but, there were other sides of him that very few people knew about.
His older brothers were very protective of their baby brother - they called him "Babe". He was supposedly a quiet child, some even say he was an introvert. He kept to himself, and he idolized his older brothers.
When he was 12, he accidentally shot himself in the leg while cleaning a rifle. His oldest brother rushed him to the hospital, saving his life.
From then on Jerry would walk with a limp, sometimes exaggerating it, like a shuffle.
His two older brothers and a friend would get into show business. The brothers decided then to change their name from "Horowitz" to "Howard".
The two brothers and their friend would make a name for themselves, but after the second brother left the group, Jerry would join them. Their boss wasn't sure about Jerry because he didn't stand out, so Jerry excused himself, then returned with a completely shaved head.
The boss laughed at Jerry and called him "girly".
Jerry's older brother misheard their boss, and instead of calling him "girly", he started calling his younger brother "Curly". The name fit.
Curly had no formal training like his more experienced brothers and would often forget his lines. But, when he did, he would start improvising, such as getting down on the floor and spinning "around like a top until he remembered what he had to say" or barking like a dog - "Ruff, ruff". He also made up other phrases such as, "N'yuk, n'yuk, n'yuk" or "Woo, woo, woo".
The rest is comedic history - Moe, the older Howard brother, Larry Fine, the friend, and, Curly, the younger Howard brother - known by many as "The Three Stooges".
The Three Stooges, despite their simple slapstick humor, became one of the most popular comedy teams in history. They were so popular that other comedy teams started copying some of their mannerisms; Moe even accused Lou Costello of Abbott and Costello of trying to copy Curly.
Others disregarded the Stooges' talents and criticized their brand of physical humor.
Some, however, believed their social commentary and satire was overlooked, pointing to their anti-hero status and their poking fun of class divisions, much like the Marx Brothers.
One movie buff, James Thompson, thinks the Library of Congress should recognize the Three Stooges' satires "You Nazty Spy!" and "I'll Never Heil Again" - which mocked Hitler's Germany. Both films were released before the U.S. entered World War II and despite an industry rule to avoid social and political issues.
At that time, the industry did not want to offend foreign countries, especially Hitler's Germany. The United States was still neutral and the public held predominantly isolationist views.
This was also 11 months before Charlie Chaplin’s critically acclaimed “The Great Dictator”, which was named to the registry in 1997.
It was also important because all three actors, the director and writers — were Jewish.
According to writer Simon Braund, "the immense popularity of the Three Stooges was deemed such a potential threat to the credibility of The Third Reich that Adolf Hitler added them to his personal death list."
Braund added, "The image of The Three Stooges as fearless, anti-fascist crusaders, willing to put their livelihoods and their lives on the line in the noble cause of liberty, will come as a shock to anyone who thinks of them — if they think of them at all — as a fifth-rate Marx Brothers knock-off whose principal contribution to the art of comedy was the twin-fingered eye-poke."
Curly Howard became the most popular and outrageous member of the Three Stooges. Comedy legend Steve Allen called Curly one of the "most original yet seldom recognized comic geniuses."
But, he wasn't always a wise guy, eh. He was also a sensitive fella.
Although he was known during his popularity to be wild, "Soitenly!" zany, and very unpredictable, there was one consistent thing in his life - (other than the love of his brothers), he loved dogs - "Ruff, ruff."
Whenever he found a homeless or abandoned dog while the Stooges were traveling, he would go out of his way to rescue the dog. He just could not bear to leave the dog alone in the world.
He would take the dog with him, he would care for it, and he would search for a home for it.
As the Stooges toured, he would take the dog from town to town, until he could find a good home for the dog.
And, when he was able to find a good, loving home for one, he would find the next homeless dog and do the same.
Curly and the Stooges had a remarkable run and became comedy classics. But, the constant touring, intense work schedule, and the hard work of always trying to be funny would take a toll on the Stooges, especially Curly. On January 23, 1945, he was diagnosed with extreme hypertension, a retinal hemorrhage and obesity. He would eventually suffer several strokes, leading to a decline in the quality of his work.
"Half-Wits Holiday" was Curly's final appearance as an official member of the Stooges. During the filming on May 6, 1946, Curly disappeared. When Moe searched for his baby brother, he found Curly, his head dropped to his chest, unable to move or speak - all he could do was cry.
In 1951, Moe was contacted by the North Hollywood Hospital and Sanitarium, where Curly was now at. He was advised that due to Curly's mental deterioration, he needed to be placed in a mental hospital. Moe refused.
Moe instead relocated his younger brother to the Baldy View Sanitarium in San Gabriel, California. On January 18, 1952, Curly died of a massive cerebral hemorrhage. He was 48, the shortest-living of the Stooges.
Curly was given a Jewish funeral and was laid to rest at Home of Peace Cemetery in East Los Angeles.
Curly's and Moe's other brother, Shemp, who was actually the original Stooge who was replaced by Curly, would in turn replace his younger brother, but the Stooges were never the same again.
Steve Allen would say in 1984, "Although they never achieved widespread critical acclaim, they did succeed in accomplishing what they had always intended to do - they made people laugh."
Many still remember The Three Stooges. The Simpsons is known for their Stooges references. Michael Jackson, a huge fan, supposedly based his famous moonwalk on the Curly Shuffle, a move invented by Curly that made it look as if he was walking backwards.
Yes, Curly and the Stooges were known as knuckleheads. But, there was more to him and the Stooges that many never knew about.
Indubitably.

Could you do a leofric profile
Character Profile: Leofric
I got two asks about him lol, you guys sure like this old man. This one I was really looking forward to though so I really don't mind! I am using the name Kuilin City as that was the original name rather than Oakenfell (let alone Oakenhurst). And I am using Vala, a character from Journey who, when she still had a proper backstory and before Journey decided to be a toddler game, was Prince Lester's wife.
Name: Leofric
Age at the time of the Barred Gate breaking: ???
Current age: ???
Affiliation: Kuilin City
Appearance: His Hypogean features are more pronounced than when he was hiding his identity. He has horns coming from his forehead and large bat wings blending in with his cloak.
Personality: While Leofric is less destructive than other Hypogeans, he is by no means a good person. After making a deal with Prince Lester, he was able to access the palace library and release the secrets of the Eternal Engravings to his fellow Hypogeans. In exchange for this huge power boost, Kuilin City was declared a safe zone for humans. Leofric works with Lester to keep the city pretty much under lock and key. Not because Leofric cares for the people but because he respects Lester.
Backstory:
"Lester's Jottings"
Glorimon 23rd. Sunny. Earl Leofric – it feels strange calling him that now – informed me that the armies of the Hypogeans will be passing us by in the following months. Safety measures need to be tightened. Nobody can leave the city walls, though that will make delivering supplies difficult but we will have to manage. The paperwork regarding rations is already piling up, this will be a nightmare. Vala is doing well for her part. The new dancer duo is proving to be a very valuable addition to her organization. The citizens seem to react better to Vala's people than regular guards. Perhaps recruiting new people there would be beneficial. Vala's popularity is rising while mine is falling but that's alright.
Calimon 16th. Overcast. I had tea today with Leofric again. Vala joined us, at his request. According to the Earl, it would be better to have Vala take over the public appearances while I fade into the background. It seemed like a good idea but Vala disagreed. It is understandable. Her whole organization lives in the shadows, they don't really wish for publicity. Earl Leofric didn't push the issue but mentioned steps might need to be taken in that case. Later in the evening, I received a letter from the Earl. The Hypogean army is departing sooner than expected. It seems he pulled some strings and wants me to take credit for it. It could help with my approval and keep peace in the city. I just worry that I am giving him too much to use against me later.
Dusmon 5th. Storming. The summer isn't going very well. Most of our crops were killed by the constant hail and heat waves. According to Earl Leofric, it would be best for us to expand our trade system. We don't have the infrastructure for that but he is willing to help us out. Sometimes, I almost forget he is a merchant. We have no choice but to accept. The people won't like this. The Hypogean presence in the city grew again. I am starting to worry about how many bards seek them out for inspiration. I know this was the deal we made with Leofric years ago but it is getting a little out of hand. I will need to talk to him about it during our next meeting.
Auramon 22nd. Cold and overcast. Things are calming down. The preparations for winter are almost complete. Earl Leofric's convoys ensured we have enough supplies for everyone. No more rationing food and clothes. Hypogean scouts have joined the ranks of Vala's organization without anyone noticing. Vala isn't happy about it but there is little we can do. It is safer this way, the city won't get overrun. More people are starting to accept the Hypogeans in our midst. I don't know if to be relieved or concerned. On one hand, it means fewer conflicts and less danger of full invasion. On the other... "Just let the people do what they will. They're living on borrowed time so they just want to make the most of it." Leofric said. Borrowed time is about right... After my death, who will take over? And will they be willing and able to earn the Earl's respect? For now, I will do my best to try and get him attached to the city. Even Hypogeans have to have some pride in what they've created. If I can get him to think of the city as his creation or property, he might protect it even after I'm long gone.
Frosmon 31st. Cold and snowy. At times like this, it's easy to forget the current situation. The snow falls over the city peacefully, children play out in the streets, and Leofric and I discuss our recent readings. So what if the snowy sky is sometimes pierced by a dragon's roar? So what if some of the children have horns or purple skin? I know I should worry more but everything seems to be alright. The city is safe. The people are safe. Leofric pauses to look out the window with me from time to time, usually quiet as if lost in thought. I want to ask what about but I have the feeling I know. "Do you think, Lester," he finally speaks, stirring his tea but not tearing his eyes from the scene outside, "that the mask of a governor would suit me?" It could be taken as a threat but it's not hard to tell that's not what he meant. I don't know how to answer. It would – he is responsible and resolute. It wouldn't – he is still a Hypogean, he may be content with things as they are now but over time, he may grow bored or decide to corrupt everyone in the city. "May the Divine Light guide you, earl." He smirks. Nods. And in the next moment, he is gone. I hope I made the right choice.

Feels like every day this week I've had to link some naïve young punk to that one Lester Bangs piece, god will you people stop with the rose-tinted idealistic idea of punk as a universally far-left radical acceptance public library get-together or some shit, the Nazis didn't invade it they were there from the start and to ignore that is not only to fail to learn from our own history but to devalue the struggles of the minorities who've been fighting for a space in the scene since 1976

I'll give all of the common writing advice for free... but at least I know where it comes from.
Unlike other people who want to charge, I give this info out for mostly free AND I know where and when the advice came from. All of the common vocabulary: I have it.
I'm currently missing the originator of the "types of conflict" I have a suspicion it might connect back to Polti, rather than Freytag. (Polti's 36 dramatic situations), because people love, absolutely love to rewrite Polti's 36 Dramatic situations, flush out all of the mentions of PoCs, and most of the women, and say they "updated it", like every 5-10 years or so, which, it a head scratcher to me. Polti's original book is right there and often it's much better than the adaptations, plus the intro and the conclusion is often better writing advice than I've heard from a lot of the people who want to "adapt" his book. It's not that hard to read. I had a much harder time with Freytag, which took me a week of raging half the time v. Polti, which I read in about 2 days, if even that.
Types of conflict:
the whole internal, external, etc, from my blind stabbing, I kind of think might be 1980's, which is a hellscape of no citations. PLUS, it's really difficult to find those books in my local library AND they aren't in public domain yet. TT Library of congress?
I found the origin of stakes. The origin of the 3-act. The origin of the diagram for Antigone. The origin of a lot of the style advice (mostly hating on women and PoCs, to be honest. Secondarily, a backlash against 19th century writing.)
If I can find this last little puzzle piece, it'll satiate my curiosity and be the final nail in the coffin. So when someone tries to say, But, X writing advice, I can give them who it came from, where and what they originally said, and then have them *think* about if it still applies *to them*.
I'm still shocked no one tried to do this before. Is it because people think that writers shouldn't be questioned and forced to give citations?
That's my aim in doing this. It isn't all this writing advice is "evil". It's that by taking away the citations, taking away the logic of why it formed, there is no power for the writer to weigh if it makes sense for their writing or if they want to reformulate it so it is updated or remade *for them*.
I'm still trying to collect story structures from other places, though. I truly get tingly, though at the idea of watching the live oral storytellers. There's so many of those I want to also collect! Why didn't we get that list sooner? Why? Has someone DONE a worldwide list? I found a partial list on wikipedia. I have to admit I wish there was another academic doing this type of work with me or that this was already a grown field, so I have ya know, someone to talk to. This intersection of Historiography of Writing Theory. The academics I reached out to haven't reached out back. Would make doing this a tad bit faster. Also would help because, then I can rage about the outrageous lines some of these writers say, or get through books faster, e.g. I have to read Percy Lubbock's grandfather, and I don't want to read Percy Lubbock's grandfather because that time period was filled with a lot of imperialism. Lester F. Ward was difficult enough.

Get to know your mutuals!
Tagged by @teejaystumbles :D
What’s the origin of your blog title? It started when I made my AO3 account. Because my real name starts with a J and so I was considering doing something with that, like J****Prime, but then I was playing around with other words that would fit and also start with a J. And thus, JustPrime was born!
OTP(s)+ shipnames(s): This isn't all of them, just the ones off the top of my head AKA in my bookmarks of AO3 links. Also I'm not going to justify any of these here, but will be more than happy to explain if any of you have questions! But to name a few...
Marvel : Stucky, Symbrock, Cherik, MattFoggy, NicoVictor, Valcarol, Soren/Talos/Nick Fury (a rarest of rare-pair for which I'm pretty sure I've written the only fic on AO3 here) DC (i'm suuuuch a dc multishipper) : BrucHarvey, Joyfire, TimKon, CassSteph, HalBarry, Constantstar (specifically the first of the fallen variety), Clois, and OF COURSE Dreamling SPN : Destiel, Samleen, Midam, Dreamhunter Star Wars : HanLeia, Dinluke, Thranto, Codywan, Anidala, Barrissoka, Wutrolani Arcane : Jayvik, Vicait, Timebomb, Zaundads Magnus Archives : Teaholding, Lonelyeyes, TimSasha, JonMicheal, Mike Crew x ME Malevolent : Arthur Lester and His Three Boyfriends (and all the subpairings that come with this), Hammer and Chisel Misc : Willabeth, Wolfstar, Hannigram, Trephacard, ShiGuang, WangXian, Reinhard/Siegfried, Bluesey, Pynch, Alex/Darlington
Favourite colour: Green, the darker the shade the better, like the woods at night.
Song stuck in your head: Last Resort (Power Glove Remix) by Papa Roach AKA the DMC version that still yet to be released anywhere >:(
Weirdest habit/trait: I'm pretty good at ignoring my body when I have to (thanks ADHD) which isn't always great but it is certainly weird.
Hobbies: Reading, writing (both original stuff and fanfic), crocheting, and recently I've gotten back a bit into embroidery, video games when I have access, DnD when I have a group
If you work, what’s your profession? I currently work in a library.
If you could have any job you wish, what would it be? I really want to do archival work of some sort.
Something you’re good at: Public speaking and puzzle solving.
Something you hate: Lack of control.
Something you collect: ROCKS! Shiny rocks, soft rocks, fossilized rocks...don't care I want them.
Something you forget: Honestly? If it's out of sight, it's out of mind and a 50/50 chance that I actually remember.
What’s your love language: My love language is telling people about how Love Languages are a pseudoscience made up by a Southern Baptist minister in the 90s who defines 'acts of service' as a way to get women to do more chores and 'physical touch' as a way to coercive women into having sex whenever their husbands demand it...
Favourite movie/show: UUUUM...gestures weakly to my blog...It honestly depends on the day. Currently I'm trying to get everyone I know to watch DMC and Castlevania Nocturne on Netflix. I've also been revisiting DnDorks 'Business Venture' 3-shot, which I HIGHLY recommend if you want a shorter DnD campaign more heavily focused on roleplaying. Movie-wise, I recently watch Conclave with a friend and it was well worth it.
Favourite food: Japanese cuisine, but specifically sushi
Favourite animal: Velociraptor
What were you like as a child: Precocious
Favourite subject at school: Usually English or History (though sciences were also fun) but honestly anything that let me do creative writing was a win in my books.
Least favourite subject: Anything related to/or about Calculus.
What’s your best character trait? I don't give up.
What’s your worst character trait? I'm blunt. Especially when I am stressed I tend not to mince words, which sometimes has the tendency to get on people's nerves or hurt their feelings.
If you could change any detail of your life right now, what would it be? I would change it so that the people I love would be safe and healthy.

PROTEA DAY IN BRINDLETON BAY
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Queen's first Protea Day as Sovereign of ‘The Order of the Protea’
Members of the Royal Family have attended the Protea service in Brindleton Bay, with the Duke and Duchess of Hastings formally appointed to Brindleton Bay's highest order of public service.
The Order of the Protea recognizes 14 knights, drawn from men and women who have held public office or given a "particular contribution" to sims life, alongside additional Royal knights.
For this triennial service in February, as well for coronations, the Knights and Ladies wear an elaborate costume Edward II fashioned after the robes worn by the Knights of the Garter.
Tumblr media
Only the monarch can bestow the honor on someone, with the most recent recipients being anthropologist Professor Dame Diahanne Cast, lawyer Baroness Belinda Petilio and Brindleton Bay's youngest Black professor Sir Dallas Shelton.
The Duchess of Hastings was installed as a Royal Lady of the Protea while the Duke was invested a Knight.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Protea Chapel has hosted the order since 1951, with the architect Richard Simolea choosing to include uniquely Brindleish detail in the building - including angels playing bagpipes. Each member of the order has a stall in the chapel, with a display of their heraldic devices displayed above it.
Knights took part with a procession to the chapel from the city's Quetignet library, while dressed in distinctive green velvet robes and green-spotted plumed hats, with a badge suspended from the collar.
Tumblr media
Edward II is responsible for the order's present day incarnation, creating it in 1949, although its roots may stretch as far back as King Lester IV of Brindleton Bay.
The Order's primary emblem is the Protea and is named from the African protea flower, of his mother's [Queen Lara-Leigh] homeland, representing change and hope. In the Windenburg language of flowers, proteas symbolize diversity and courage.
The motto for the order is kò sí ẹni tí ó pa mí lára láìjìyà - Niregian for "no one harms me with impunity."
Tumblr media
Though absent this year, 85yr old, Lord Benjamin, the 11th Earl of Hamptonshire, is the order's longest-standing knight, having been appointed in 1978. Zarah, Queen Dowager held that title until her death in November 2024, having been invested as a Royal Lady by Edward II in 1951. The late Queen dowager is said to have been honored at this year's service.
Knights of the Protea, Garter, and Iwé were last collectively together when they took part in Queen Katherine's 2024 coronation.

Annotated Bibliography
The History Harvest is relevant to 21st-century public history because it captures the history of everyday people’s historical values and preserves them for future generations. Items passed through the family and held sentimental value are saved for future studies. The most crucial factor in collecting these relics of the past is to keep them from coming destruction or becoming lost to history. Digitally archiving items, interviews, documentation, etc., enables future family members or researchers to find history from earlier times and stories from people of our time who will no longer be around in the future.
