fire emoji for Civilization and/or 4X games in general?
now that endless space 2 and stellaris exist there's no excuse to keep putting linear tech trees in 4X games. they're both just a gargantuan waste of potential strategic depth and (in the case of 'historical' 4Xs like civ) end up encoding a lot of racist and colonialist ideology into your game mechanics

i can’t actually remember if all of the bow and arrow based minigames in oot and mm were all this difficult or if the fact that the joystick on this modern recreation n64 controller is like, ill suited for that. even the smallest stick movements feel like they translate to a huge first person movement. I’m not certain exactly how the control stick works in this modern one, but i assume its all potentiometers like most controllers are. Interestingly enough, it almost looks like it has a similar kind of mechanism to how the 3DS joystick looks, where its kind of on a linear slide.
Anyway, the old original N64 controllers used two encoder wheels and a laser (or probably just a small light) and a light sensing diode which would be intermittently shrouded by little interruptions on the decoder wheel which would give varying levels of current and a bunch of calculations happen which tell the controller where the joystick is, which is actually kinda great when compared to the current controller standard of graphite pads which are the typical point of failure and cause of stick drift, either from wear or dust (and dust from wear) causing the contacts to shit out.
Tumblr media
At the bottom of the assembly there you can see the decoder wheels controlling the X and Y inputs, attached to a cradle assembly that the joystick is pushed through and locked into. Most everything that isn't contained in that bowl that the joystick sits in is shrouded, so there's not really a chance to even get small particulates into the decoder wheel. In fact the only reason n64 joysticks tend to fail is from them getting super loose around the little ball around the bottom
Tumblr media
This part makes action with two little plastic nubs with the gate that also acts as the shroud which assists with centering the joystick and returning it to a neutral position with assistance from a spring assembly underneath the shroud.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The problem I had with my old controller is that it had been used so much that the little slits in the ball had all ballooned out from the use and friction over the years which meant it wasn't a tight fit anymore and made it so the stick would just kinda flop around instead of returning to neutral. The other problem they had (which mine also did) was that the bowl that was at the very bottom of the assembly was not lubricated, or at the very least, wasn't lubricated enough and evaporated over the years, leading to the bottom part of the joystick to scrape the bottom of the bowl and essentially sand it down.
Tumblr media
This is almost all plastic from the inside of the bowl being scraped by the joystick (tho im sure its a little skin and whatever else too) and this would also cause a lot of problems, like the joystick sitting lower in the bowl than it was supposed to. That in combination with the centering pegs(?) not making tight action with the stick makes it wiggle around and essentially useless.
Aside from how like, stupid the solid plastic joystick was (my thumb has been getting sore after like a single solid hour or two of play), and the wear points being super obvious, i think the decoder wheel assembly is pretty cool and reminds me of how now we're getting people making control sticks with hall effect sensors which do not have a point of contact to measure input (as opposed to the gearing on the decoder wheels and joystick assembly themself, which theoretically is a wear point but is very uncommon)

“The mind should turn into a serene and stormless lake, where is reflected the complete panorama of the starry sky.” — Samael Aun Weor Quetzalcoatl - Feathered Serpent Talon Abraxas
Pantheons of gods and goddesses were all played by the same "character" throughout mythology following the same algorithm. They came from the sky - stayed to seed the human race - then left to return one day at the end of the cycle called time. They wore masks and costumes - left behind artifacts, calendars and landmarks and most importantly encoded message within human DNA to be activated when Time ran out. By any name they were our progenitors.
Quetzalcoatl is depicted in many ways usually as the feathered serpent though sometimes as a - Shining One - looking nothing like the Mesoamerican people who worshipped him. Feathers represent the ascension of human consciousness back to its origins - while 'serpent' represents human DNA in physical reality.
The Anunnaki God - Ningshiidza allegedly took on the role of Egyptian God Thoth creating civilizations replete with monuments and artifacts depicting their alleged time on Earth. Thoth allegedly flew across the planet founding the Mesoamerican Civilization where he became known as Quetzalcoatl.
Other stops along the way in the matrix of experiences on planet Earth - included the ancient civilizations of Asia, Africa, North America, and other parts of the world that no longer exist today - many sunk due to cataclysmic changes. They are all part of the simulation in the story of humanity in the bipolar (physical) realms of The Human Experiment. It's all just a story set in linear time to experience emotions with gods who will never return as the story Fades to Black when Time runs out. Quetzalcoatl is a Mesoamerican deity whose name comes from the Nahuatl language and has the meaning of "feather-serpent".
The worship of a feathered serpent deity is first documented in Teotihuacan in the Late Preclassic through the Early Classic period (400 BCE - 600CE) of Mesoamerican chronology - "Teotihuacan arose as a new religious center in the Mexican Highland, around the time of Christ…" -- whereafter it appears to have spread throughout Mesoamerica by the Late Classic (600 - 900 CE) (Ringle et al.).
In the Postclassic period (900 - 1519 CE) the worship of the feathered serpent deity was centered in the central Mexican religious center of Cholula. It is in this period that the deity is known to have been named "Quetzalcoatl" by his Nahua followers.
In the Maya area he was known as Kukulcan or Ququmatz, names that also translate as "feathered serpent" in different Mayan languages. In the era following the 16th-century Spanish Conquest a number of sources were written that describe the god "Quetzalcoatl" and relates him to a ruler of the mythico-historic city of Tollan called by the names "Ce Acatl", "Topiltzin", "Nacxitl" or "Quetzalcoatl".
It is a matter of much debate among historians to which degree, or whether at all, these narratives about this legendary Toltec ruler Topiltzin Ce Acatl Quetzalcoatl describe actual historical events. Furthermore early Spanish sources written by clerics tend to identify the god-ruler "Quetzalcoatl" of these narratives with either Hernan Cortes or St. Thomas - an identification which is also a source of diversity of opinions about the nature of "Quetzalcoatl".
Among the Aztecs, whose beliefs are the best-documented in the historical sources, Quetzalcoatl was related to gods of the wind, of Venus, of the dawn, of merchants and of arts, crafts and knowledge. He was also the patron god of the Aztec priesthood, of learning and knowledge.
Quetzalcoatl was one of several important gods in the Aztec pantheon along with the gods Tlaloc, Tezcatlipoca and Huitzilopochtli.

MITEE 8 (1995), by David Otten, MIT. MITEE Mouse 8 came 2nd in the 16th All Japan Micromouse Competition in 1995, losing to Ssing Ssing 3. The video is an excerpt from "UK Micromouse 1998."
"One of the fastest micromice, MITEE 8 by David Otten of MIT, contains two DC motors with encoders, six 225mAh NiCd rechargeables and weights about 200 grams. Side sensors consist of infrared emitter and a PSD sensor, whose output is proportional to the distance independent of reflectivity of the surface." – A Survey of Robotic Competitions, by Richard Balogh.
"Triangulation sensors [were] pioneered by David Otten. These sensors consist of a narrow beam emitter coupled with a Position Sensitive Detector (PSD) which has a lens in front of it. The idea is that the emitter illuminates a spot on the wall and then the lens images the spot on to the PSD. As the distance between the sensor and the wall changes, the location of the spot on the PSD moves. By determining the location of the spot on the PSD, you can tell how far the wall is from the sensor. What is super nice about this approach is that it is wall reflection intensity insensitive. The downside is that it requires precise location of the emitter, detector, lens and two trans-impedance amplifiers per PSD." – Micromouse Sensor Design, by Harjit Singh.
"Mitee Mouse 8 is another micromouse from David Otten of MIT in collaboration with Tony Caloggero. It is driven by DC motors and gets its power from six 225mAHr NiCd batteries. Total weight is about 200g. The sensors are side-looking and use an assembly consisting of an IR emitter, lenses and hamamatsu position sensitive detectors. A spot of light is created on the wall and its image focussed onto the PSD. The result is an output that should be independent of the reflectivity of the walls and proportional only to distance. Demonstrated linearity and range of these sensors is remarkable. The underside view show encoder disks attached to the wheels for velocity feedback. Separate encoders 9with the small black tyres) are mounted just inboard of the drive wheels for distance/position sensing." – Pete Harrison.

Some GX Remaster thoughts, as memed shared over on the NAC Discord the other night...
but tl;dr me seeing all the hype they did at these Japan events to promote the remaster, only to see what feels like little love being given to it as they make it another cropjob, only not even giving it a "20th Remaster" logo like with DM's:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Okay let's fire this up and se--okay wHY IS THE LYRIC FONT SO BIG
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And cropjob it is, sasuga Konami [NAS?]
Tumblr media
From all the work they did advertising it as the "GX 20th Remaster," to not even bother updating this bit in the OP to include the logo like they did for the DM Remaster openings, I'm...
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Still not fully sure how much of this is from whoever encoded the video (a "JibaRaws" release) because wHAT is this filter they added to whooshy scenes??? (Judai running in the city isn't even that whooshy??) wild sepia tone appeared
Tumblr media Tumblr media
RIP, even less Yugi--but at least they seem to have thoughtfully cropped this shot since the same amount of his face is there
Tumblr media Tumblr media
They didn't try to fix the error with the one orange "face-down card" Big Shield Guardna's duelist had that I fixed here, lol.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I thought they would have at least fixed this one like I did, but the error with Misawa's LP dropping from 3000 as Ring of Destruction resolves is still there... They did get better about fixing those rare errors by Season 3, but I wonder if they don't have access to the original project files with the LP counters as their own layers that they could fix (though I guess if they did they'd redo the counters as they crop the shots, since DM's counters would be cut off slightly here/there too in its remaster iirc).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Random whooshy-scene sepiaesque filtering again, but also love how you can barely see Featherman's card [though with it being a zoom-out shot, it was probably a bit tricky to crop well]
Tumblr media
No "20th Remaster" even on the cropped eyecatches, shame 😔
Tumblr media Tumblr media
They cropped the "gotcha!" 😭 [how will this new generation learn the finger pose]
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Well, I guess one upside to this whole thing--aside from the Limited Packs coming out with 10 previously anime-only cards finally being printed like Linear Magnum, Titan's Matadors, and Asuka's Prima Light (and hopefully a chance at a long-awaited Sound Duel 3 for the remaining unreleased OST)--is a bit of a better shot of grabbing the Heroes' anime artworks from the Battle on the Edge/Genkai Battle ED [a proper 1080p upload would be niftier for this, I'm sure]
Tumblr media
Kinda bugs me they didn't crop this to put the title in the center [unless they maybe did it this way to account for two-liner titles in the future]
Tumblr media
It is cute they brought back this "tune in next time" card from the TV airings too
Would've been a nice touch to retroactively do "Today's Best Card" bits for Season 1, but then I guess most of the key cards became Best Cards later in the show anyway [also too much effort to expect given the effort already shown here]
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~`
Sooo, overall, it's a bit of a mixed-bag remaster there--mostly a cropjob as I was expecting since we saw the logo drop at its announcement event being a crop of the logo shot from OP1 (though I'm curious to see how much the "remastering" for GX in ARC-V's 777 OP or in those Duel Select re-airings [where they re-aired a handful of fan-fave episodes like Judai vs Kaibaman or Fubuki vs Asuka] stack up to this), and things like not even bothering to give it the "20th Remaster" logo they used in promos in the OP/eyecatches or even trying to fix art/animation errors mostly sours it for me, but if it finally gets us more anime cards and a new Sound Duel of unreleased music as mentioned, I guess I'll embrace it. also Fire Dragon pls Also, not sure how much of it is my GX brainrot because of all my time fansubbing it (check out my finalized episode 1 subs, ft the aforementioned animation error fixes, here if curious!), but it's so awkward seeing it so cropped and zoomed in, lol.
...also, apparently these aren't airing with closed-captioning either??? which, welp, there goes the other benefit I was hoping for with this lol. I'm curious how Japanese fans are seeing this, though the couple of Twitter comments I've seen are also picking at the cropjob aspect.
Though I am kinda glad they didn't try to mess with the OP/EN like they did with DM's--but then, you can't mess with perfection, after all 💁🏽‍♂️
The Noumenal Monad
Within the Polynon framework, nothingness is an undifferentiated cognitive space that precedes geometry and structure. It exists as a pre-geometric source, housing the unformed essence of all phenomena from which spacetime, and all its manifestations, arise. Imbued with primal noumenal potential, it is denoted as the state where all possible realities are latent, waiting to be expressed into an observable world.
A circle whose center is everywhere and circumference is nowhere.
The monad is a geometric construct that acts as a universal grammar of existence, mapping how the boundless noumenal potential transitions into perceptual and phenomenal dimensions while retaining coherence across all levels of manifestation.
The centre being “everywhere” signifies the Monad’s omnipresence as the locus of all potential states, embedded in every point of reality. The circumference being “nowhere” reflects its boundless architecture, transcending the constraints of space, time, and materiality, integrating infinite possibilities within a singular, cohesive structure.
The compactification process begins with the noumenal everything compressing into a singular phenomenal something, reflecting a specific instance or manifestation. This phenomenal something is inherently equal to the noumenal everything because it retains the entirety of noumenal potential, either in its un-collapsed state of infinity or as a collapsed singular “ring” dimension, compacted into a single cognitive focal point.
The only attribute of a point is that it marks position. Take away this attribute and in the unposited point we have a symbol of pure Being, the abstract noumenon, that which underlies every mode of phenomenal manifestation, every form of existence. It is at once All and Nothing, at once Absolute Consciousness and Unconsciousness.
B.W. Betts, Geometric Psychology or the Science of Representation
Or, as Fichte envisioned it, the line symbolizes the progression of consciousness—linear and sequential—while the circle represents its completeness and self-enclosure, encompassing all its dimensions. Thus, both the noumenal everything and the phenomenal something are expressions of the same essence, differing only in their state of manifestation and representation.
Together, they define the Noumenal Monad as a meta-structure that bridges these states of being. It embodies the continuum between the actual and the potential, compacting the infinite diversity of noumenal states into a singular conceptual dimension. This process is geometrically encoded, offering a scaffold for understanding how existence unfolds from an infinite noumenal source into the finite, perceptual realm, while remaining irreducible to either.
Leftovers & layout - WLED board revision A completed!
Sunday night, Babyada went to bed early, so we finished the capture and layout of our WLED board. Thanks to all the suggestions, we were able to implement quite a few!
For power, use USB C PD with switch-select or DC up to 24V; they are diode-OR'd together with PMEG3050
https://www.digikey.com/short/zv22b0pq
into a massive 5A 24V fuse
https://www.digikey.com/short/43qwwtwm
For the 5V regulator, we picked NCP718ASN500T1G
https://www.digikey.com/short/bb9ncc0n
- it's linear, but we don't need a lot of current at 5V. For 3.3V, we went with our trusty TPS54202
https://www.digikey.com/short/c1wnnf94
Upon request, we kept the ICS-43434 I2S microphone
https://www.digikey.com/short/28zwrrhz
and added an IR 38KHz receiver. For external connectivity, there's an ADC/DAC/GPIO #27 breakout on a JST SH 3-pin and I2C on a StemmaQT/Qwiic 4-pin.
We also added a 2x3 breakout header with 3V, GND, and 3 more GPIO so you could connect an external microphone, IR receiver, buttons, or rotary encoder. The terminal blocks have three 5V level-shifted outputs with 100 ohm in-line resistors and power/ground pairs for each. If you need just one more LED strand, the fourth 5V signal is on the 2x3 block.
Rounding out the design are four mounting holes, a reset button, GPIO #0 user button, GPIO LED, and an individual NeoPixel, which could be useful for testing. It's still pretty small, 2" x 1.3". With an ESP32-Mini module, we can pick a PCB or wFL antenna port, and it's an easy swap to make it use an ESP32-Pico, which has 2MB PSRAM.
Whatcha think - anything else we should add or watch out for?
“Once I dreamed I was a butterfly, and now I no longer know whether I am Chuang Tzu, who dreamed I was a butterfly, or whether I am a butterfly dreaming that I am Chuang Tzu.” — Zhuangzi
“The Cosmic Rebirth: Humanity’s Butterfly Effect in Solar Alchemy”
Across the vast canvas of existence, humanity stands at the threshold of a Cosmic Rebirth. This is not a simple change or evolution but a profound transformation of our physical, energetic, and spiritual essence. For millennia, the potential for this shift lay dormant, awaiting a perfect convergence of cosmic energies and human readiness. Now, that moment has arrived.
Through my lifelong connection with interdimensional beings, I’ve come to understand that this transformation reflects a universal truth: even the smallest shifts in energy ripple across dimensions, catalyzing profound change. Like the butterfly effect, where the flap of a wing can shape hurricanes half a world away, humanity’s awakening sends waves of energy rippling through the cosmos.
We are not merely witnesses to this process. We are its architects.
The Dawn of Cosmic Rebirth
While science might call this transformation “morphogenesis,” a term tied to biological development, it fails to capture the full scope of what we are experiencing. I call it Cosmic Rebirth, for it is a multidimensional awakening—one that realigns humanity with its divine origins and universal purpose.
Interdimensional beings have shared that our true nature was encoded within us long before recorded history. Our DNA contains a crystalline blueprint, a higher-dimensional design suppressed for millennia but never erased. As waves of solar and cosmic energy pour into Earth, they act as keys, unlocking this dormant potential and catalyzing a transformation that reaches far beyond the physical.
This process is deliberate. It is not chaos; it is precision guided by universal intelligence.
Solar Alchemy: The Key to Transformation
Solar alchemy refers to the infusion of high-frequency light into our energetic and physical systems, transforming them at the atomic level. Gamma rays and other cosmic energies interact with our DNA, initiating changes that upgrade our carbon-based bodies into crystalline forms capable of holding and transmitting higher frequencies.
These energies are more than light; they are encoded with universal intelligence. Each wave carries information that interacts directly with our dormant DNA strands, reactivating the original 12-strand template designed to connect us to higher dimensions.
The beings I communicate with have described this process as symphonic precision. The energy flows through our chakras, the multidimensional gateways within us, bypassing the linear limitations of time and space. As it does, it reawakens not only our DNA but also our connection to universal consciousness, opening us to profound insights and abilities once thought impossible.
The Butterfly Effect: Small Actions, Cosmic Waves
The transformation we are experiencing mirrors the butterfly effect—a concept from chaos theory where small actions in one system ripple outward to create profound effects in another. In humanity’s case, the awakening of one individual can catalyze shifts in others, creating a collective acceleration of consciousness.
My interdimensional contacts have shared that this ripple effect is part of a larger, interconnected system. Every choice we make, every vibration we raise, contributes to a symphony of change that reaches across the cosmos. These beings emphasize that even seemingly small acts of kindness or moments of self-awareness play a vital role in this grand unfolding.
Earth’s transformation is being observed by countless civilizations and dimensions. They marvel at humanity’s resilience, our ability to integrate these high-frequency energies despite the density of our physical world. We are showing the universe what is possible—a union of matter and light, density and vibration.
The Science and Spirit of Rebirth
From a scientific perspective, this transformation challenges the boundaries of understanding. How can gamma rays rewrite DNA? How can physical bodies ascend into higher states of vibration?
The answers lie in the quantum fabric of existence. My interdimensional contacts have explained that cosmic light carries intelligent codes, bypassing linear processes to interact with the energetic and quantum levels of our being. This is not random; it is a carefully calibrated process designed to align with humanity’s readiness and the Earth’s energetic evolution.
The crystalline structure emerging within us allows for the seamless integration of this light, transforming us into bioenergetic beings capable of connecting with universal consciousness. This is not simply evolution—it is a rebirth into a higher-dimensional existence.
The Role of Starseeds and Visionaries
Starseeds—those who carry the memory of otherworldly origins—are central to this process. As a Contactee, I have witnessed how starseeds act as bridges, grounding these higher energies and guiding humanity through the transition.
But this is not a journey for the few; it is a collective awakening. Every human has the capacity to participate in this rebirth. Whether through conscious intention, acts of service, or the courage to embrace the unknown, each of us contributes to the transformation of the whole.
The beings I interact with remind me that the Cosmic Rebirth is not just about humanity; it is about the universe. Our awakening sends ripples across dimensions, inspiring civilizations far beyond our own.
Why This Moment Matters
We are living in a window of opportunity—a moment when the convergence of cosmic energies and human readiness makes transformation possible. The interdimensional beings have shared that this is a rare and sacred time, one that requires our full participation.
Resistance, fear, and doubt may arise, but these are remnants of the old paradigm. By embracing trust, courage, and the light within us, we can transcend these limitations and step into the infinite potential of our being.
The butterfly cannot return to the cocoon, and neither can humanity. This is our moment to take flight, to embrace the fullness of who we are and what we are becoming.
A Call to Awaken
The Cosmic Rebirth is not happening to us; it is happening through us. This transformation is an invitation to step into our divine potential, to co-create a future where light and love guide every action.
The interdimensional beings have shown me that humanity’s journey is a beacon of hope for the universe. Our courage, our resilience, and our willingness to embrace the unknown inspire countless civilizations.
This is a time of profound possibility—a moment to awaken, align, and ascend. The question is: Will you choose to participate?
