Thor, Jane and Brunnhilde stared at you in shocked silence. The soldiers that had teamed down the mountainside had vanished, either vanquished and tossed into the water or simply…gone. But then, so was the village. The long hall, the houses, each shop with its large stone front and sweeping roofs, gone. Except…when you really looked, when you tried to find your doorway, the wreath and light that made it feel like home, you could see it, shimmering where it should be as if from the corner of your eye.
“Can you guys still see the village?” You asked, mouth dry, hands trembling.
“No.” Thor answered.
“Not even a little bit?”
“Not even a little bit.”
“But you can, child, is that right?” Lugh placed a hand on your shoulder.
“A little.”
“I am so proud of you, your mother would be proud too.” His hand squeezed gently, as if he wanted to pull you in for a hug but was restraining himself.
“What did I do?” The reality of vanishing the village was setting in, all the people, the families and friends inside, you heaved in a ragged breath.
“Calm yourself.”
Thor took up space on your other side, rubbing a large palm up and down your back.
“The village is not gone, you did a wonderful thing, you protected them.”
You turned your shining eyes back up to Lugh.
“You have manifested your mother’s cloak, I thought it either lost to the eons, or that you had hidden it deliberately. But here it is, back where it belongs, with you. The village is quite safe beneath it, Bres will not be able to enter and no harm will come to those beneath, just as it protected the precious flowers during winter. The snow may settle above, but the village will be ready and waiting to bloom again when it is safe to do so.”
Brunnhilde swept a calculating glance over the protected village, “can we get in, to help them?”
She looked at you, but her eyes flicked quickly to Lugh.
“That entirely depends on whether young Estrid can lift it and, as she did not know that she could manifest it, perhaps we should plan for them to remain under it for a while. I trust you have others in your court, besides the warriors before me?”
It felt comforting to still be included as a warrior, despite the gaps in your knowledge and experience.
“They have supplies under there, but it’s a modern village, we expect food deliveries every few days or so, I don’t think we should leave them longer than a week.” Brunnhilde chewed on a nail, counting boxes of emergency supplies in her head.
“We won’t need a week though, will we? Because Estrid and Lugh are going to get Loki back, and then we’re going to finish this, right?” Jane looked around, Thor nodded enthusiastically, Brunnhilde shrugged, her smile contemplative but Lugh squeezed your shoulder tighter.
“Of course, King Brunnhilde and her wonderful court, will protect the village further and fight off the siege. I will accompany the Princess to…” he trailed off.
“America.” You supplied, “the Avengers Compound.”
“I will accompany the Princess to the Compound of the Avengers, aid in the rescue of Prince Loki of Asgard, and we will return to put an end to this ridiculous nonsense once and for all.”
Lugh was so confident, his stance that of a true God tested by time and battle ready, for once you didn’t want to run from him, you were ready for battle too.

The light remained the same throughout the day, always from above, no windows or natural openings.
Loki was considering going completely mad on purpose, simply to pass the time, when a door in the far side of the room snicked opened and a familiar face appeared. Loki stood, the picture of poise despite the basic clothes they’d allowed him, he kept his hands behind his back and schooled his face to look neutral, rather than simply bored, before speaking.
“I wondered who they’d send.” He mused, taking slow deliberate steps across the width of his prison.
“And are you happy, or not?” The Black Widow asked, stepping out from the shadows into the light cast by the prison’s eternal glare.
“Is anyone particularly pleased to see their kidnapper?” He lifted an eyebrow, hoping for some reaction from the assassin, how did she view herself in this game that Stark had dragged her in to? She had always struck him as having quite similar morals as his own, firm and unwavering even if it meant getting your hands dirty.
Kidnapper? Hmm,” she mused, mirroring his stance, hands behind her back, but she was steady, ready to fight, dressed in her black catsuit, widow's bites glowing on her wrists and daggers sheathed on her legs and arms.
“I do not recall leaving with Stark and Rogers willingly, so I can only assume this is a very ill thought out kidnapping attempt. I am intrigued to hear your demands and then we can begin negotiation.”
“This is not a kidnapping, this is an arrest.”
“And my crime? So that I may defend myself in some way?”
Natasha’s face hardened, “New York, Laufeyson.”
Loki rolled his eyes, “still? I have served my time in an Asgardian prison. My brother, the Crown Prince of Asgard and your colleague -” Loki sneered at the thought of Thor working with them, he’d always found it distasteful that his brother lowered himself this far, but the more he knew of them, the worse it became. “- freed me. You see, I may not always have the correct path, but I am a God, I am not one of your mortals to beat and bully. We have our own ways and they have been satisfied at the highest level. In fact, I now hold a vastly superior place in the Royal Court and I am quite sure they’re missing me terribly. So, with that finished, I shall be leaving now.” He stopped in front of her, he had a grudging respect for her, but he was tired of the games.
“We can’t let you leave, Laufeyson. You know that. And there’s still the matter of Estrid.”
“What matter could there be to resolve?”
“You kidnapped her.”
Loki let out a genuine bark of laughter. “How rich, I have kidnapped someone, have I? What kind of awful person would forcibly take another and lock them away, unable to escape?” He stepped back, lifting his arms and turning away from Natasha. “She has not been kidnapped, she just does not wish to work with you.” Loki sat on the cot and stretched his long legs in front of him, giving the agent a leisurely smile. “It just eats you all up, does it not, that she cares so little for you all. Did you think you’d found yourself a new pet? A new ability to consume like you have the others.”
“Estrid is a danger to herself and others, we were containing the threat.”
“My lady may be a threat,” Loki clenched his jaw, “she may be powerful, magical, in a way that you Midgardians cannot understand, but she is perfectly capable of controlling herself. We have no need of you, she never did. In fact, if I recall, you were so desperately outmatched you asked me for help.” He sat forwards slowly, standing to his full height and approaching the glass again. “And if she has experienced one ounce of pain, one iota of worry or sadness about this sorry situation then you will wish you had never made that call, you will wish you had ignored her from the start. You and your little band of would-be do-gooders have seen nothing of the power that Asgard wields, that I wield.” He snarled, slamming a hand against the glass. It rattled, but held firm.
On the other side Natasha stayed firm, her feet set and back straight, but he could see a question wavering behind her eyes. What were they doing locking him back up, why had they sent her?
Natasha shifted on her feet and smirked. That raised lip, that quirked eyebrow. It made Loki’s blood boil.
“Is this love, Laufeyson? Do you really think you’re defending Estrid’s honour?”
“What was it you said to me once? Love is for children? You owed the archer a debt, as I recall. I owe Estrid more than a debt, I owe her a lifetime that she has been denied. More than you and your band of self satisfied superheroes could ever imagine.” He spat, fingers pressing into the glass wall. He could feel anger rising within him, the need to let his magic lash out was unbearable, the controlling magic surrounding his prison tamping it down like a cork in a bottle of champagne.
“We were never trying to take anything from her. You were tasked with helping her, you were tasked with a mission and you didn’t check in. You both vanished, Laufeyson, when you were supposed to return her to the compound. ‘Round here we call that kidnapping.”
“I made a different call.” Loki’s voice was a low growl, “because she is no object to be bargained over. She is a Princess, a Goddess. And you must allow me to return to her to defend the Asgardian people, we both know there's been an attack. You cannot hide it from me.”
“How the tables turn, Laufeyson. This feels very familiar, in fact, it’s a shame you have nothing to bargain with. But you have to accept that you can't control her forever.”
“There is no coercion here, merely the truth. And your hurt feelings of course.”
“We have a job to do, an organisation to maintain and a government to answer to.” Natasha moved slightly to the side, no doubt some code or suggestion to her superiors. Loki admired her bond with Barton, he had been touched by her dedication to gaining him back and, though it hurt him to admit, he hoped she could see his need to return to you too. But it seemed she had other plans.
“And regimes fall every day, Agent Romanoff. Or have you forgotten that, now that you’re so comfortable here? This regime of Starks, his Avengers. It cannot last forever, you mortals pass like butterflies in the summer and so will this. You’ve gone soft, I’m disappointed.”
Loki moved, slow and calculated, like a cat about to strike. He backed away from the glass and placed his hands behind his back again.
“I have a job to do, protecting Estrid. And I am tasked with making sure you don’t escape again.”
“You believe I owe you imprisonment? A punishment? We have not even begun to discuss what is owed to my Asynja for her sufferings in this place. So I would tread - oh - very, very carefully. I would think, very, very carefully. And I would scurry back to your superiors and tell them that I may be the one locked up, but I am certainly not the one to fear. You should have contained her while you had the chance, because my Asynja, my Goddess - she will be most upset to have woken up alone, so I would consider what that might look like - what that might feel like - for those responsible, when she does return.”
Tumblr media
Lugh held your elbow as you landed on the outskirts of the Avengers compound tucked into the shadows forming from the rising winter sun. As you stared at it it seemed to glow warmer in return, light flaring in amber beams that cut swathes through the manicured lawn towards the lake.
It would be a lie to say your time here had been completely terrible, though it was certainly a low point in many ways. But Loki had made it shimmer with magic. It had been here, in these grounds, that you’d practised your gifts with him, had seen him bring forth his armour for the first time and had begun to form a friendship with Thor that now felt like family.
Loki was not to blame for this place being ruined, it was the Avengers and their need to control and box off everyone they came into contact with.
You stepped forwards, over the still brown grass that marked Loki’s entrance into your life all those months ago and, as you did so, your armour strengthened. The silver breastplate that sat over navy velvet flashed in the sun, new patterns forming on the surface, a snake, a calf, the sun and moon, twined together.
The cape at your back rustled in the breeze and your spear ignited with a blue flame, tall and proud even in the building wind. It was time, and you were ready.
“I will distract these Avengers,” Lugh said, tripping over the unusual phrasing, “you will need to find Loki. Do you know the layout of this…castle? Where will their dungeons be?”
“Don’t worry,” you eyed the large picture windows that faced out onto the grounds, “I know exactly where they’ll be keeping him, I just need to get inside.”
“I can not use the bi-frost to enter.”
“There’s an exit from the roof that no one uses, it’s locked but I can try and melt the mechanism.” You pointed to an overgrown corner of the building, “but I need you to go that way,” you pivoted to the water, motioning towards the towering entrance to the compound. “If you can lure them that way, to the water maybe, and hold them there it’ll give me more time.”
Lugh clasped a hand to your shoulder and drew you closer, patting your back, “your mother would be so, so proud of you, child. I hope you know that. I will gladly cause a distraction for you.”
Lugh strode off across the grass, bold in his gleaming armour, the sun dancing in his long hair. Immediately the guards at the gate began panicking, talking into their radios and reaching underneath their desks.
Now or never, with a shimmer of magic, you broke into a run.
Tumblr media
The bottom of the metal staircase was, quite sensibly, locked tight and caged in with a huge padlock, but the metal bars heated easily under your flaming hands, twisting away until you could shove at the gate, forcing her way in.
You took the stairs two at a time, racing towards the roof and towards Loki. You knew he was close and resisted the urge to send a wave of power through the compound. Anyone could pick up on that, you knew the Avengers had all manner of monitoring equipment and it had probably been ramped up since your swift entrance, and exit, from their world.
The roof was as you’d left it, lawn chairs scattered around, an ashtray perched on one arm let you know the Bucky had still been using it regularly, there was a cigarette with lipstick on it as well - Natasha.
You were expecting them all to be present, but confirmation felt worse, a rock settling in your stomach. You’d never wanted to hate them, to fight against them, you just didn’t want to be them but it seemed to amount to the same thing.
From the roof you could see Lugh, popping up and vanishing around the perimeter of the compound. There were already a good number of recruits and agents chasing after him, but you needed to see Avengers, needed them to be out there to know that they weren’t inside.
Each heartbeat felt like a seismic event, your breath whooshing in your ears and limbs heavy from the stress of keeping them still. You needed to get to Loki now, why was it taking them so long to respond!
The air shifted and suddenly a blur of red shot across the open grass towards the perimeter, Iron Man. In his wake Captain America and the Black Widow took up flanking positions on the ground. No doubt the Soldier was hidden somewhere and the Falcon was probably airbourne somewhere as well, at least, you hoped.
Your heartbeat loud in your ears you reached for the locking mechanism on the door. They were all biometric, you remembered the way the Avengers have clicked in and out of rooms using their finger prints or eye scans alongside the little cards clipped to their belts. You didn't have a little card anymore, but you were pretty sure Natasha’s fingerprints would get you in.
The lock clicked, the door swinging open silently and - you weren't alone.
Tumblr media
There was someone in the shadows, a hand reached out and tugged you against the wall.
“Shush, be quiet.”
A woman then, but - “I wasn't saying anything.”
“Shush, they're looking for you okay, Jane called me and she said ‘Darce there's this woman and-’ well anyway she told me you were coming and wow you’re sure fast I'll give you that.”
“I don't know who you were expecting but this is Natasha and -”
The woman laughed, “sure you are. The Widow’s out there -” she motioned with her hand towards the edge of the compound, “we all know that.”
With a sigh you allowed yourself to change again. If you were going to be found out anyway you might as well be comfortable.
 “Ohhhh I love this get up, very Goddessy I like it a lot -”
“Didn't you say I had to be quiet?” You hissed, looking down into the dark stairwell.
“Oh yeah, quiet, yeah, so Jane told me you were coming and girl this is a stupid fucking plan but if you're for sure sure you're going down there then you'll need me to turn the cameras off.” She smiled, pulling her phone from her bomber jacket and tapping on the bright screen.
In the light from the phone you could see her more clearly, dark curling hair tucked under a beanie hat, bright red lips and headphones around her neck.
“There, okay, so I've moved the feed but you won't have much time. Do you need any help? Do you need a sidekick?”
“Do you know where they're keeping Loki?”
She stared at for a minute and then a wide grin burst onto her face, “of course I do, the medical wing I can take you if-”
“Got it, thanks.”
“I could come?!”
“No need, thank you!” You stage whispered, running into the darkness.
Tumblr media
The compound was as you remembered it, cold despite the climate control, echoing and vast and full of people rushing around below. You crept across the higher levels of the atrium and made your way towards the medical wing. There was a cell there you’d seen that was wide and glass, made for the Hulk, if they were going to keep Loki anywhere, it’d be there you were sure of it.
As you moved through the corridors the thrumming inside of you grew deeper, the bass drumming of your heart reverberated in your bones, called to you, drawing you closer and closer, faster and faster. Your footsteps beat on the floor, breaking into a run. Skidding down corridor after corridor until, finally, you were there. The medical wing - only a door away. He was here, your bones knew it, your magic knew it.
As you passed each CCTV camera you noted the red live light flickering off, you could only hope you wouldn’t trip the fire alarm with the way your fingers flared with heat and smoke.
There was movement, behind the small window in the door and there he was, Loki, your Loki, pacing and clenching his fists.
Your flames sputtered, too excited, too overwhelmed to control and the smoke billowed.
Smoke alarms blared and Loki’s head shot up. He looked dishevelled, upset and unkempt in a way you’d never seen before. Even when he’d found you locked in the castle he’d kept an air of controlled grace and cunning. Now he looked wrecked.
Behind the glass his voice was stolen, but he was shouting, his neck and jaw tight with the effort of it.
“I’m coming,” you shouted back, uselessly, your words swallowed by the soundproofing and ongoing flashing alarm.
You tried your palm against the lock shifting just your hand into Natasha's and hoping that the Widow had clearance to open the prison door. But nothing happened, just a shrill beep and a flash of red on the screen. Access Denied, Clearance Level 1 Required.
Fuck.
“Loki, I’m going to get you out. I promise!” You called, hoping he could understand you even if he couldn’t hear you.
The thrumming inside of you grew stronger, pulling against your chest as if it was reaching for Loki.
Summoning your flames back to you, you blasted the door, all finesse vanishing with desperate need.
Loki stood back from the glass wall in his prison, waiting, patient now, staring in awe.
The flames just licked higher.
There was something on the other side and Loki motioned to the space above the door, there was nothing on your side, but he made a shape with his finger - runes.
You sent another barrage of flame but it only tickled the impenetrable door, instead you wedged the end of your spear in the gap, attempting to leverage it open, but there was still no movement.
Instead water began to spray from the overhead sprinkler system and your flames gave a last angry crackle before going out.
On the other side Loki held his hand up to the glass, a twisting smile on his face but defeat in his eyes. He was so close, so fucking close, tears welled and you screamed despite yourself, allowing your anger and fear to fill you to the brim, sucking in every speck of light from the corridor, Loki’s prison turned pitch black and then there was a shattering, a rocking and the door simply melted. The doorway dripped metal and molten glass, the searing heat a mere ghost of a touch when you passed through and there, in the middle of the room, stood your Loki.
You dropped the spear and ran to him, throwing yourself at him and trusting him with everything that he would catch you.
He swung you into his strong arms, his face pressed into the crook of your neck, breathing you in for the first time in forever. His heart raced with yours, racing towards your freedom.
“Loki -”
“Asynja -”
“I missed you, I missed you so much and I have so much to tell you -”
“In time, my darling, but first -” he bent towards you, hands cupping your cheeks and drawing you close to place a devastating kiss on your open lips. His tongue swept into your mouth, tasting your fear and need and, dare he think it, your love. You gripped him back equally as hard, your hands clutching in his messy curls, and pressed your body to his.
From some inconsequential place in the room you both heard a creak but, wrapped in Loki’s embrace you ignored it until - your stomach dropped, the singular sensation of your entire body moving at once without your input, like a lift releasing too fast.
“The prison, we must leave.” Loki tugged you towards the exit but it was too late, the prison was collapsing in on itself, the darkness below swallowing it and suddenly you were both plunging.
You lifted your arms, ready to go with Loki wherever this dreadful place was taking you, but instead a comfortable warmth settled over you both, heavy, like a cloak, and smelling of spring rain on new buds, grass and flowers and the first warm day.
“Hold on,” Loki scooped you into his arms, swinging your legs out from under you with an arm below your knees and one at your back - then the bifrost took you. Propelling you through space away from the compound, away from Loki’s prison and back to Tønsberg. Where the village lay bared to Bres once more, and you landed with Loki, wrapped in the cloak of protection, with an army at your doorstep.

"Okay."
"Okay."
There's a long stretch of silence between Darcy Lewis and Jane Foster.
In the liminal stretch of the apartment building's hall, there's little sound except the loud drone of some horribly, desperately sad song beyond the door of Unit 1131. The two women share a long look with one another, and then Darcy gestures urgently to the door.
"Go ahead," she nudges her colleague.
"What?" Jane asks in a harsh whisper, "No, you knock."
"You were the one that said we needed to do an intervention—" Darcy argues back in an equally low tone.
"Oh, so now this is on me?" Jane fires back, "She's our friend—"
"Our friend who has been babbling nonsense about things that have not happened and has been seriously obsessing with that Low-key dude—" Darcy rushes out, bringing her face closer to Jane's, "I don't even know what we're walking into here!"
Jane inhales. She pinches her brow. With a long rub of her face, she exhales. Then, she knocks.
She gives Darcy a 'happy?' look before stepping back and crossing her arms.
Almost immediately, the music stops. There's the sound of a shuffle. A meow. And then, the door opens only wide enough that one exhausted eye can peak through the chained gap.
"Heeeeeeeeeey, girl!" Darcy chides, waggling her hands in the air, "Surprise!"
On the other side of the door, your heart clenches.
It feels a little bit like a cruel joke, y'know?
All that wishing, begging, clawing to go home and — well... you are. You're home. You've been home. For six months, you've been home in New York City. You're back in that little studio apartment, with Sigurd, with your research, with your doctorate.
ALL I WANT  TO DO IS  GO HOME.
You try your best to give both Darcy and Jane a smile, but it comes out mangled and exhausted and not quite right. You've been crying. Sort of par for the course these days.
"Oh, uh... Hi guys."
Sigurd meows.
"You got a sec?" Jane asks, raising a folder in her hands, "We, uh... Erik gave us some new anomaly data to look over and we figured... you're the one for the job! Y'know? It's... kinda... your thing... have you been crying?"
Your eyes dart between them both. You wet your lips.
"No. Nooo, no. It's..." your mouth hangs open as you search for a reason, "...Allergies."
There's a beat of embarrassing silence, and then Darcy moves fast as lightning. She wriggles her arm through the gap and unlocks the chain — almost as if this is definitely something she's mastered before — before pushing her way through the doorway of your apartment. Jane follows close behind, and Sigard squawks as he scurries away from underfoot.
The infiltration is almost immediately regretted because... woah.
Like, big woah.
Darcy has seen crazy. Like, she has an Uncle on her Dad's side who is totally in on the whole "they're coming for our thoughts" thing and does not leave the house without at least six layers of Great Value tinfoil stuffed under his baseball cap. She knows crazy. She works for Erik Selvig.
But this?
This is, like, soooooo above her pay grade.
Jane's jaw is slack. The folder is immediately forgotten on the kitchen island in favor of the wall-to-wall documentation of... whatever the hell this was.
LOKI MISSING? in the center of it all, with string and equations and runes and news articles and tabloid pages. There's an alarming amount of photos of the God in question pinned up beside ramblings on... Time? And... Quantum mechanics...?
There's another loooooong stretch of silence. And then, Darcy and Jane both turn slowly to look at you pressed against the door.
You swallow.
Your face is set in horror.
"It's not what it looks like—"
"Uh, dude, it totally is what it looks like—" Darcy starts, stepping closer to the board and pointing a black, manicured finger at a paparazzi photo of Loki being carted off from the now-Avengers Tower, "What's with all the Loki paraphernalia?! Need I post a lil' throwback Thursday to when he tried to kill us all?"
IT'S THURSDAY AGAIN.
You wince. "You wouldn't understand—"
Then, it happens.
The same thing you've experienced dozens upon dozens of times these last six months happens again: A rush of chatter in your mind, a cacophony of whispers that claw at your thoughts and flood them with has-beens and will-be's. A million things all at once, a little bit of everything from all of time, and then— one thread. One thread that stands out against them all.
"Jane, don't."
Across the room, Jane's fingers pause on the contact number for that pretty S.H.I.E.L.D. agent they've met once or twice now — the one who is managing the Asgardian anomaly cases. With Loki missing, S.H.I.E.L.D. has been desperate to track him down. If this is a lead... If you know where he is...
Jane's face freezes.
Her brows knit.
Your face is split in panic. "I know you think calling Agent Hill is the right thing to do, but—"
"...How did you know I was...?" Jane's voice falls off, her eyes searching your face.
Your voice splinters as you step forward. "If you call Agent Hill, she is going to section our entire division within the week. Thor will be exiled from Earth on conspiracy four days later. We will sit in a cell for five years until they decide we have nothing to do with Loki's disappearance from Asgard."
Darcy's eyes bounce between you and Jane.
"Why are you saying all that like you know it's going to happen?" Jane asks slowly, putting her phone down and closing the gap between you. "Doc, what's going on?"
Your eyes flicker with fear.
And then exhaustion. The walls you've built to keep this away from the others crumble with one worried look from Darcy, and you crumple against the kitchen counter.
Your voice is far away.
"It all started that Thursday."
Tumblr media
You thought it would be better now that someone knows.
Truth be told it might be more trouble than it's worth if not to soothe the burden of secrecy — because Darcy keeps treating you like a Magic 8 Ball that, when shaken, is going to spit out readings on the future.
It isn't that easy. I mean, if it was, you would have definitely done everything in your power to avoid the commute traffic this morning.
You don't know why it happens. Or how. You have a theory it has something to do with Alioth, but... without any sort of control, there's no way of knowing. All you know is that in those moments, you're presented with a weave of potential sequences. And in those moments, you can choose to act. Or not.
So far, acting seems to be the best course of action.
But, yea, no. No fortune-cookie-level stuff. No crystal ball, no tarot cards. Just... weird time-whispers. And a migraine that seems to never go away. And dreams. Really vivid dreams. Dreams that happen? And dreams that don't.
If it was a horoscope sort of thing, maybe you wouldn't have missed your morning bus after waiting in line at that coffee shop three blocks down. They always make your coffee a little too bitter, but the girl behind the counter is an NYU grad student you recognized from a mechanical engineering lecture you sat in on three months ago. You've got a soft spot for her. She's always nice to that guy in the baseball cap who seems unhoused.
You hope it all works out for her in the end.
But, Christ this coffee is bitter.
You buzz into Stark Labs at 9:37 am, and you're setting your stuff down at R&D by 9:43 am.
Bruce Banner looks up briefly from his work to slide you a welcoming smile. You return it gently as you settle down on your stool and reacclimate yourself to last week's work.
Mondays, man.
Tony is, as always, later than anyone else. His entrance is followed by the usual boisterous chatter meant as a morale booster. More often than not it's a genius-level comedy routine built on absolutely torturing Dr. Banner. You opt, more often than not, to refuse to enable the bad behavior.
Any laughter is buried deep into these readings from the Tesseract.
And so this has been home for the last four months.
Avengers Tower. R&D. Erik Selvig's Research Team. Theoretical Physics and Quantum Mechanics. Day in, day out.
No TVA, no TemPads, no Sylvie, no Mobius, no Capybaras.
...No Loki.
But, plenty of whispers.
It rocks you out of your focus, iced latte halfway to your lips as you're rooted in this little pocket of voices and threads and whisps of time. There's a thousand, then a hundred, then one.
Your voice is soft.
"Bruce, try the equation again."
From across the room, Tony's voice dies down and Bruce's eyes rise to meet yours. He points to himself, with a questioning raise of the brows.
You nod, then continue to take a sip of your coffee.
And so Bruce does. Wordlessly. And, after a minute, he looks up with a grin.
"So it was right."
"Woulda never known if Iron Dick over here didn't shut up for one second."
Tony's grin is bigger than Bruce's as he meanders over to your lab table and throws an arm around your shoulder. He squeezes you gently. You avoid his eye contact — and in doing so, you miss the momentary grace of concern.
(Tony has known you for a few months now. He knows you adequately enough to gauge that your triple-shot espresso should have been a sextuple. The bags beneath your eyes are dark. There's an edge there. Something jumpy. You're exhausted.)
"Now, that was mean."
"You're torturing him," you fire back lightly, non-the-wiser to his scrutiny.
"It's called exposure therapy—" Tony croons, leaning back and thumbing through some of the notes on your desk. You allow it.
Good. Still sharp. Still better than anyone else at what you do.
"Exposure to workplace terrorism?" You rib back with one cocked brow, "No offense, Bruce, but I like you better not green. Okay, Tony?"
"None taken!" Dr. Banner calls lightly from across the room. He's working on the second part of that equation now.
"Sure, sure, alright, Doc," Tony heads your words, raising both hands and stepping back, "I guess someone hates fun."
"Absolutely," you say blankly, chewing your straw; you point at him, "No laughter."
"None," Tony waggles a finger.
"Not a peep," you remark causally as you spin in your stool and snag your pen from the drawer behind you.
"Any news on the other green guy we hate?" Bruce asks slowly, eyes bouncing between you and Stark.
Your blood goes a little cold. Just like always. It's hard not to react — especially when that other green guy is all you think about day and night.
WHEN YOU LOSE HIM YOU WILL DO ANYTHING TO GET HIM BACK.
You wordlessly shake your head. You shrug. Bruce turns to Stark. Tony is hunched over his bench. His words are a bit muffled by the soldering project he's turned his attention to.
"None. According to Thor he just up and poofed. He was in the middle of atoning before the Buckingham of Asgard and... just warped on out."
So you've heard.
"Hill has been working every lead she can but... the Asgardians are a little touchy-feely on the whole 'earthlings in the domain of the Gods' thing."
"Understandable," you mutter absently.
Tony sits up. "Only time will tell."
...Indeed.

Home.
Unit 1131.
Lonely.
It wasn't before all this... It was full to the brim with contentment. It was comfort, it was bliss. It was indulgent mornings slept beneath the covers and bright music in the kitchen. Cheap wine from the liquor shop on the corner and homemade meals. It was "I finally made it".
Now, it's none of that.
Because he's out there — and you know that you don't belong here anymore.
You drop your bag by the door.
Your boots follow in a trail.
Sigurd mews expectantly, and you scoop him wordlessly into your arms as you weave through the chaos of papers and books. Your carpet is hidden beneath a layer of obsession masquerading as research.
But, there's one thing that pulls you back in each time.
It's that photo.
The one Darcy had pointed at earlier.
Loki is being carted off from the now-Avengers Tower. He's looking back at something, and his expression is broken.
It's you.
You know he's pleading with Thor at that moment through a muzzle, desperate to call your name. He's looking at you, being whisked away by S.H.I.E.L.D. as they clear the area, and your voice is silenced by grief.
You wish you had called out to him then — told him you'd find him again.
Regret is a hell of a thing.
Grief, too.
How do you mourn something you never really had? Not here, not in this timeline.
So you stand there, in the dim lights of your apartment, staring at the photo. And you cry. Just like every night, for the last six months.
In your desk, that magical little daisy made of grass waits.

If they find Sylvie, they find you.
That's the mission.
Mobius M. Mobius thinks it's funny — back then, man if only he would have known that lil' hunch of his was right. Maybe a part of him did. And... Now? Things are different. I mean, everything is different. The TVA is different.
Loki is different.
They say to be loved is to be changed an' all that.
The first thing out of Loki's mouth was your name when Mobius finally saw him again — and then a word vomit of panic, induced by the death of He Who Remains and... time-slippage as OB called it. Lotsa moving parts. Lots to keep track of. But, ultimately, they're in a better spot than they were yesterday.
1.) Loki is no longer falling through the metaphorical cracks in time.
2.) Mobius did not get toasted alive when standing before The Loom.
3.) He never, ever, ever has to do that again.
And now!
They're in London.
1977, huh. Zaniac.
If they find Sylvie, they find you.
...Unless you find him first.
Loki isn't exactly thrilled.
No, Loki knows better than to get his hopes up. Sylvie isn't here. He already told Mobius that. It's too safe. It's a damned movie premiere. There are no radiation burns, no falling stars, and no rampant gunfire. It's too quiet.
It's a movie premiere and you're out there, somewhere, alone. You're... you're lost. He can't protect you here. He can't protect anything. You... You're all he has and you're gone.
And he's here, wasting his damn time.
Brad Wolfe is about to waste more of his time.
Loki's gaze is sharp. His strides are long, and as they approach the fray, the God stands amongst the tallest of guests. He cuts a mean profile. It's times like these that Mobius remembers he is a God.
(It's times like these that Mobius can also see the ever-increasing edge in his partner-in-time. It's a little... worrisome. But understandable. I mean, rip a God's soulmate from his hands and see what happens, right?)
"So, he's an actor now?" Loki comments off-handedly, his irritation grating his heartstrings in a way that reminds him of who he was before all this. He hates it. But, he's angry. He will get you back. Without you...
Without you, he doesn't know what he'll do.
"Or he's undercover."
As they weave, Loki's brows knot in distrust. "Looks pretty real to me."
It smells like cigarettes and perfume, and the flashbulbs bite sharply into Loki's peripherals. The raven-haired trickster winces, tucking his hands into his slacks.
On the red carpet, X-5 moves from interview to interview. Occasionally his laughter rises above the clamor. Each time, Loki's nostrils flare and he rolls his eyes.
It's when he reaches the end of the line that Mobius moves in.
"Will there be a Zaniac Two?"
The look on Brad's face says enough for Mobius to know there's more going on here than just an undercover bit. Brad's laugh, as equally pained as his smile, just cements the fact.
"Mobius! Woah!" A clap on the shoulder, a big hug. "I used to work with this guy!"
Still a show. Still a weasel trying to survive on his little slice of time.
"We're going to need to catch up," he begins, backing up slowly, "You know, why don't we chat after the show?"
"How about now, maybe?" Mobius counters just as Brad turns on his heel and comes face to face with Loki.
The God sneers.
"Woah. Okay, ha, whole gangs here!" he chirps, "Isn't that... great? Wow. I mean, you look — you look great, Loki."
"Why thank you, Brad."
Brad's eyes are manic, and he's searching the crowd quickly — no doubt looking for an exit. Then, they catch something. When Brad claps his hands together and pats them on both Loki and Mobius' shoulders, the two TVA agents pause.
"Everything alright?" Loki asks, head tilting in faux concern.
"Everything is great, actually, because when I was here," he begins, words quick and anxious as he tries to weave some sort of story, "I met a mutual friend!"
"Sylvie?" Mobius asks tightly.
"No, no, uh, better—"
Loki's jaw tightens. Enough of this. "We have some mutual friends back at the TVA who would like a word, as well—"
"Doc!" calls Brad after finally finding her in the sea of people, turning on his heel and calling out over his shoulder, "I got people I need you to meet!"
And just like that, it's like Loki's whole world splits wide open again.
In the fray of photographers and journalists, in the fray of drinks and the haze of smoke, there's you. You're smiling at Brad, positively beaming. You're bright as a star and Gods, there's no one in the room when you step forward with a laugh.
Your dress is green. Your hair is different.
There's a beauty mark on your left cheek. His version of you has a scar that lies there. A mistimed gift from Sylvie before their period on Lamentis.
"Doc, these are some of my friends from work," Brad points, his hand falling along your waist in a way that makes Loki's blood boil; the ex-TVA Hunter leans close to your cheek, "They're the real deal."
You laugh into your drink, then extend your hand to Mobius. He's trying his best to hide his growing dread. "It's a pleasure."
Mobius takes it and shakes it gently. "And how do you have the pleasure of knowing our starlet, Brad?"
Damn it. He's losing Loki in real time here.
"Doc here did all the practical effects on set for Zaniac," Brad's eyes connect with Loki's — but the God is focused on only you... Her. Until Wolfe digs in with a low murmur meant to do just what it does, "She's a real wiz with her hands."
The God's face snaps. He will kill Brad, he decides. But, then this other-you moves to offer her hand and he can't help but melt.
His fingers are trembling when he touches her skin.
"Have we met before?" comes the soft lilt of her voice — this Variant's eyes are brown. They search Loki's face for a shred of recognition but all that's there between the two of them is raw attraction. A law of time and space unhindered by meddling hands. No matter where, no matter when, you will find one another.
Loki's mouth is dry. Your lipstick shade is a dark rogue. He thinks about that kiss back in the Void. He's stuck there, with your hand in his, when Brad bolts.
Her face contorts in confusion. She pulls away. But, Loki lingers.
He has to... He...
He needs you back.
Now.

Notes- For my Year of Protectiveness @yearofcreation2023 . I've actually had a rough idea of this story in my head for about a year it just took some time to flesh it out and get it right. For that reason too, there's no series spoilers and is ambiguous as to where it fits on the timeline so you can imagine whenever.
This can be read as a prequel to In My Arms (Over and Over Again) but it can be read on its own. That fic is one of my pride and joys though so I recommend reading it after this one! Enjoy!
@flightlessangelwings-updates is my update blog so feel free to also follow that and turn on post notifs to stay up to date on when I post new stuff!

Midgard… Earth. It was the last place Loki ever expected to find himself, let alone willingly. Yet, it was the last place anyone would ever think to look for him. So it’s where he found himself when he wanted to be alone, unbothered by any pressures that surrounded him.
Loki had no idea where on the planet he was, but it didn’t matter. The trees of the forest surrounded him and created a shelter of peace where he would just breathe. The warmth of the sun hit his skin, and the fresh air from the trees filled his lungs. It was refreshing. It was peaceful. It was everything he needed.
But, as he made his way through the forest with his eyes closed, listening to the sound of the birds around him, another sound made his eyes shoot open. The roar of a large animal snapped any notion of peace out of Loki’s mind as he found himself nearly face to face with bared, sharp teeth. He wasn’t worried, though, and he smirked as he brandished his dagger in his hand.
Just as Loki was about to attack, however, a voice from behind him made him freeze.
“Wait!”
Loki paused.
The voice continued, “It’s not aggressive, not really,” you were calm as you spoke, “Keep eye contact and back away slowly and it’ll leave you alone. There’s no need to kill it.”
Loki pondered his options. He could easily kill the beast and be done with it. But, there was something about your voice that swayed him, so he did as you instructed. Slowly, he stepped back, putting more distance between himself and the wild animal until it stopped growling and turned away. As it did so, Loki let out a deep breath.
You also let out a sigh of relief as the tall stranger with black hair got closer to you, “She’s just defending herself,” you explained, “Must be a den or a nest around here somewhere. I bet she just had babies too.”
A smirk lit up Loki’s face, “Would you give that benefit of a doubt to anyone?” he asked as he turned to face you, revealing his face to you.
You gasped as you brought your hands to your face, “You’re…” your body tensed as you clearly recognized who you found in the woods, “Loki…”
“Would you have said the same thing if you knew who I was?” Loki challenged, yet no malice was heard in his voice, “Would you grant me the same courtesy?”
Silence filled the air between the two of you for several moments, the tension palpable. But, you exhaled, releasing the tension in your body as you did so, “I guess I would be a hypocrite if I said no, huh?” you said, trying to ease the tension.
Somehow, it worked, and it made Loki let out a genuine laugh. Something he hadn’t done in so long, and if he had to admit, felt nice. “What is your name?” he asked.
You told him.
“Lovely,” Loki said genuinely.
It all blossomed from there. You and Loki fell into conversation easily and naturally, as if you had known each other for a lifetime. And the more time you spent in his presence, the more at ease you felt, not that you were scared of him in the first place. Nervous, yes, but Loki had a calming air about him, and something told you it was ok. And Loki, for one reason or another, felt comfortable around you. You had the same calming aura about you that Loki felt drawn to, and he found he actually wanted to stay and talk to you longer.
That never happened with anyone before… Loki wondered why that was.
Before you knew it, the sun started to set, and you looked up with a gasp, “It’s getting late,” you breathed, “I…” you paused as you stared into Loki’s eyes, “I should go.”
Loki bid you farewell with a nod and watched you leave. And he already decided he was going to keep an eye on you until you were safe. He wasn’t going to let you know, though, and he stayed in the shadows, keeping watch over you from afar. And as he did, he couldn’t help but notice the new feeling in his chest. Sure, Loki had bedded princes and princesses, lords and ladies, and common men and women. But, you… you were different. And he couldn’t help the feeling of fondness towards you.
You seemed to know the path well, and you made your way to the clearing at the edge of the woods in no time. Behind you was the fantasy world, the forest, the place where your life just changed forever. In front of you was the real world, civilization, the daily grind. Taking a deep breath, you took the first step back into reality.
But, as you started to leave, you suddenly found that you were not alone. A chill ran up your spine as a group of men whistled at you, and closed in on you quickly.
“Hey there sweetheart,” one of them grinned darkly.
You didn’t reply, but your hands shook as you looked around for an escape plan.
“Oh come on, don’t be like that,” another chimed in, “We just want to talk to you.”
A whimper escaped your lips as you hated the helpless feeling that came over you. But, a growl in the distance called all your attention, and everyone snapped over and saw a shadowy creature. All that was visible were glowing eyes and sharp teeth, but it was enough to scare the men away. You, on the other hand, backed away and tried to make yourself smaller in hopes that whatever it was would chase them, and you let out a heavy breath when you felt a rush of wind past you and heard a roar in the distance where the men ran off to.
You stood still for several moments as you processed what happened. For some time, you didn’t dare move, yet something within said you were safe. There was a familiar feeling around the air, as if you were being watched. Yet, you didn’t feel threatened like with the men who approached you. Looking around, you took one tentative step away from where you stood  in hopes of finding someone, yet you were alone. After letting out a deep breath, you turned and left, smirking to yourself; you had a hunch who was responsible for the shadowy creature that saved your life. After all, you did notice that the shadowy creature had bright green eyes.
In the shadows, Loki smiled with satisfaction.
*
One week to the day later, you found yourself back at the same spot. You weren't sure why or what you were expecting, yet you couldn’t help but find your way back there. The sun shone through the trees, warming your skin, and you felt at peace here.
“Well, it looks as if you and I had similar ideas, darling,” a voice chimed through the trees.
“Loki,” you breathed as you turned around and met his gaze. The tension you momentarily held in your shoulders melted away and you grinned widely, “Were you stalking me?” you asked cheekily.
“Never,” Loki replied, “It seems mere coincidence that we both came back to this spot on the same day.”
You gave him a pointed look, but the smirk never left your face, keeping the tone light.
“I promise,” Loki raised his hands in mock surrender, “I’ll never lie to you, my lovely.”
Your breath caught in your throat as the world around you suddenly felt hot, “I.. Uhhh,” you stumbled over your words, unsure of how to respond, “Thanks,” you decided on in a low mumble.
Loki returned the grin you gave him earlier, “Shall we sit, darling?”
It turned into a routine for the two of you. Every week on the same day at the same time, you and Loki met in the woods. It was your escape from the world for both of you. It became a comfort for each of you to seek solace in the other. Although neither of you ever officially made plans, or said you’d be back the next week, you always were.
For you, it was an escape from your life, from your stresses, to meet with Loki. And though you never thought you’d make friends with a Norse god, you were grateful for him. You tried to ignore the way your heart fluttered when you realized tomorrow was your meeting day, and you forced your heart to calm its wild beating as you stood in the woods waiting for him.
And as for Loki, he felt the same way. He never expected to find peace and solidarity on earth, and he certainly didn’t expect to fall… Loki laughed at himself, for so long he chastised his brother for loving someone from earth and here he was… They have more in common than Loki cared to admit. And he wasn’t ready to fully admit his feelings for you yet. They were there though.
Loki paced around the forest; it was unusual for you to not be there waiting for him. It was rare he felt nervous, but Loki couldn’t help the sinking feeling in his gut. Everything in him screamed that something was wrong, and after he waited long enough, Loki decided he was going to look for you.
And may the gods help if anyone hurt you…
*
You groaned as your body ached. The last thing you remembered was that you were on your way to meet Loki for your weekly rendezvous when you bumped into a group of men who looked like they were up to go good. You gasped and tried to run, but one of them grabbed you. You tried to scream, but no one heard you, and the last thing you heard before a cloth covered your face was, “Wrong place wrong time, sweetheart.”
And that was how you found yourself in a locked room tied to a chair, blindfolded and gagged. You wiggled in your binds as much as you could, but it was no use. They were tied too tight, and you had no idea where you were anyway even if you could break free. You didn’t even know what time or what day it was. And you whimpered softly when you realized that you would most likely never see Loki again…
Or so you thought.
Gunshots and screams from a distance called your attention and you snapped up to strain to listen. You faced where the source of the sound was, even if you couldn’t see anything. You didn’t dare move, however, since you had no idea what was happening. Were you going to be safe with whoever attacked the men who kidnapped you? Or would it be worse? You held your breath, pressing your lips together as you tried to calm your trembling hands.
The screaming went on for what felt like hours, and you could only imagine what the men were fighting in their last moments. Part of you didn’t want to dwell on it, but part of you had to have hope that whoever it was would be your savior. You never, however, expected to hear your name after the screaming stopped.
“Loki?” you whispered. When his voice called your name again, you shouted back, “Loki!”
The door burst open, and you heard Loki breathe your name in relief as he rushed over and untied you, “You’re alright, it’s me.”
“Loki?” tears filled your eyes as you were filled with disbelief that he was actually here. He actually came. For you. “You…?”
“I’m here,” he cupped your face, “Are you hurt?”
You shook your head as you felt your body tremble, “A little sore, but I’m ok,” you froze as you looked into his eyes and your heart skipped a beat at the look on his face, “Loki… You… You came for me?” your voice was shaky.
Loki grinned, “Darling… You underestimate how much you mean to me. I wasn't about to let them hurt you. and I certainly wasn’t about to let them even consider killing you.”
Before you could stop yourself, you lunged forward and kissed him deeply. Your bodies smashed together as you pushed everything you had into him, clinging to him hard. You trembled as your emotions overwhelmed you and for a moment, you lost yourself into the feeling of Loki’s lips. It brought a comfort unlike anything you were expecting, and a lone tear fell down your cheek. But, then you realized what you did.
“I’m sorry,” you breathed as you tried to pull away, “I don’t know what came over me.”
Loki just mumbled your name as he cupped your chin and gently turned you so you met his gaze. There was a sure look in his eyes, and it told you everything you needed to know. This time, it was Loki who closed the gap between your faces, kissing you once more. His kiss was more tender, but very purposeful, and Loki wasted no time in darting his tongue past your lips.
You moaned into the kiss as you lost yourself in the emotions once more. For a moment, you forgot where you were as Loki became your entire world. Nothing existed beyond him and his kiss. And the taste of him was immediately intoxicating.
But, neither of you could stay like that forever, and after one last peck on your lips, Loki broke away. He stayed close to you, however, and his voice stayed low and soft and comforting, “Let’s get you out of here.”
Without a word, you nodded.
*
“Sorry it’s not much,” you stood nervously at your front door as you let Loki inside your place, “It must be completely different than what you’re used to…”
Loki caressed you as he reassured you, “It’s wonderful, darling,” he purred. Truthfully, he wasn’t even paying much attention to your place; Loki couldn’t take his eyes off of you.
Feeling his heavy gaze on you, you turned back from where your eyes wandered around the living space and you felt a tingle up your spine at the way Loki eyed you, “Loki…” you whispered.
Time felt like it stopped as you stared into each other’s eyes. Your breath caught in your chest as you felt your heart pound. Between the way his hands cradled your form and the way he looked at you with those dark eyes, you knew exactly what Loki was thinking. And before you lost your nerve, you made your move.
You crashed yourself into him as you pressed your lips into his. Loki immediately yanked your close, his hands roaming up and down your sides as he deepened the kiss. Both of you moaned into each other as you savored the taste of the other. Heat rose in the room as passions erupted, and there was only one thing on both of your minds.
“Bedroom is this way,” you murmured, your tone low, “You want to…?”
“I thought you’d never ask, my lovely,” Loki smirked.
Sliding your hand in his, you led the way, and Loki kept a cheeky grin on his face as he waved his hand the moment you crossed into the bedroom. Suddenly, all your clothes were piled neatly on the dresser, his next to yours. Before you could react to his antic, Loki pounced on you, crashing both your bodies onto the bed.
You landed on your back with Loki overtop of you. You gasped as you found yourself in such a vulnerable position, yet you weren’t scared. You could never be scared of Loki. No, there was a different feeling that pulsed through your veins, and it made your body warm at the thought of what was to come.
Loki hovered over you, his hands on either side of your body. As he trailed up and down your figure with his eyes, Loki felt his cock harden and his heartbeat quicken, “You are absolutely lovely,” he purred, “A decadence of perfection.”
All you could do was whimper as your mind went blank. No one ever whispered such sweet and beautiful words to you, or about you, before. Your hands roamed all over Loki’s bare chest, and you felt a rush of need between your legs as he groaned at your touch. “Please, Loki,” you whispered, “Don’t tease me right now.”
He smiled down at you as he caressed the side of your head, “Don’t worry, darling,” Loki’s tone was just as low as yours, “Let me show you how a god makes love.”
The moan you let out echoed in the room as Loki leaned in and attached his lips to your skin. With expert precision, he nibbled and licked and sucked at every spot that made you mewl, as if he had touched you a thousand times before. Loki groaned into your skin as he kissed his way across your chest before latching onto your nipple.
You arched your back, allowing Loki more access to your body as you dug into his shoulders. Your mind swam in pleasure as he swirled his tongue around your nipple, driving you wild. Bucking your hips into his, you murmured his name once more, begging him for more.
“I’ve got you, darling,” Loki hummed as he kissed his way back up your body, “Exquisite,” his voice was a low rumble that went right to your core. Loki noticed of course, “You like that, darling?” he asked, amused.
He didn’t give you the chance to properly answer as he rocked his hips against yours, dragging his cock between your legs. The action made you moan even louder and you dropped your head down onto the mattress. “Fuck… Loki…”
He exhaled sharply with a grin as he did it again, feeling a tingle up his down spine as he rocked himself against your body. But, as much as Loki wanted to prolong this, the way you cried out, and especially moaned his name, made him more impatient than usual. “Are you ready, darling?” he asked as he reached between your bodies and lined his cock up with your entrance.
“Yes,” you replied immediately, “Please, Loki.”
Loki groaned as he slowly pushed himself inside you, feeling your warmth engulf him. Both of you gasped loudly as he filled you inch by inch. You cried out as he pushed deeper inside you, and you wrapped your arms and legs around him as much as you could, holding him tightly.
Once Loki’s hips met yours, he immediately started a slow yet harsh pace. Skin slapped against skin as Loki drove his cock into you over and over again. Your mouth dropped open as the moans and cries flowed freely- music to his ears.
“That’s it, darling,” Loki purred, “So beautiful…” he mourned your name as he lost himself in you.
As Loki’s cock hit that one spot deep inside you, your eyes shot open and you screamed louder, “Loki! Fuck! Yes!”
He growled as he picked up his pace, aiming for that spot every time, “I’m close too, darling,” he groaned, “Fuck, you’re so lovely.”
“Loki…” you whimpered as you saw stars and felt your skin tingle.
It only took a few more thrusts for you to completely fall apart and you came with a loud scream. Your nails dug into his skin as your entire body trembled. Never in your life had you felt a pleasure like this, and it brought fresh tears to your eyes from the overwhelming sensations.
Loki groaned as he watched the spectacle you put on just for him. His arms trembled as he fought to keep himself overtop of you, not wanting to miss a moment of your climax. Although you couldn’t hear over your screams, Loki mumbled soft praises as you came on his cock. And he had never seen anything in the nine realms more beautiful than you were right there in that moment.
And that was when Loki couldn’t hold back any more. He came hard, his own orgasm overtaking his entire body. And Loki did something he had never done before in bed- he moaned your name as he spilled himself deep inside you. Tears of his own formed in the corners of his eyes as he gave one last thrust before he fell forward.
Heavy breaths filled the room as you both came down from your highs. Loki placed a series of feather light kisses on your skin wherever he could reach as he caressed your body tenderly. Once he gathered his strength, he carefully pulled out of you, kissing the side of your head as you gasped. Loki didn’t go far, though, and he settled in your bed with you gathered safely and secretly in his arms. Together, the two of you laid like that for several moments in a comfortable silence.
Until you broke it with a question that had been on your mind for some time, “Why me?” you asked.
Loki grinned, “Remember the day we first met?” he paused as you nodded, “You can see beyond what’s in front of you, and that, my lovely, is a rare occurrence in the universe,” Loki cradled you in his arms as you let out a deep breath, “Sleep now. I’ll watch over you. You’re always safe with me.” He placed a feather light kiss on your head.
“I know I am,” you yawned contently, “Loki I…” you fell asleep mid thought.
Loki watched you for some time as he whispered to your sleeping form, “I’ll protect you, darling. No one will ever harm you again, I’ll make sure of it.”
As Loki watched you sleep, he noticed that the beat of your heart was the exact same rhythm that drew him to earth time and time again. It was like a siren song that called out to him although neither if you were aware of it. Was it soulmates, as your people would call it? Perhaps… but Loki was never one to believe such fables… until now. He smirked to himself before he fell asleep in the last place he expected. But it was right where he belonged. And you were right where you belonged: safely in his arms.

You land on Asgard, clutching Loki's arm in a death grip. Your nails dig into the black leather of his jacket, knuckles white as you fight to keep down your breakfast.
At Loki's other side, Steve Rogers grasps Thor's shoulder to steady himself. Beside you, Director Fury stands almost entirely still, the only sign of movement a slight flapping of his coat.
"Welcome to..."
"I'm going to be sick," you cut off the gatekeeper, releasing Loki and running to spill the churning contents of your stomach off the bridge.
You look up and see a grand procession approaching from further down, their guilded armor bright in the morning sun. Leading the group are four warriors: a stunning dark-haired woman, a blonde with a charming grin, a stout soldier sporting wild facial hair, and an overly serious crusader.
You wipe your mouth, feeling better but still unsteady on your feet as you return to the circular chamber. "Sorry," you mutter.
"Don't worry about it," Steve says. "I was a mess on my first visit."
"Um, thanks." You don't really believe him.
"I am Heimdall," the golden god continues, unfazed by your interlude. "Gatekeeper of Asgard, protector of the Bifrost, and seer of all things."
At this point, the entourage arrives. "May I present Lady Sif, the Warriors Three and the Einherjar," Thor makes your introductions, noting that Rogers and Fury are already acquainted with the leaders.
Three horses are presented for your journey to the palace. You perch nervously at the front of your saddle, grasping the horn for dear life. Loki swings up gracefully behind you and reaches around to control the reigns.
"It's alright, darling," he coos, wrapping an arm snuggly about your middle. "Nótt is steady and true. He will deliver us safely, I guarantee it."
You take a breath, trying not to shudder or look beyond the bridge. "It's my first time."
"And you're doing splendidly," he hugs you closer and you begin to relax as you watch Steve cling to Thor's waist.
Fury kicks his steed to a trot, joining Hogun at the head of the group.
The five of you gather in an antechamber, preened and swathed in Asgardian finery. Rogers and Fury are called first, leaving to greet the court. After some time, you and Loki are announced.
He takes your hand, placing it around his arm before entering the grand golden hall. You walk side by side down the long aisle to the throne. Loki's steps are assured, his pace steady, honed jaw set in determination. The crowd claps respectfully, their observance subdued, even hesitant.
You reach the stairs below the throne and bend in a nervous curtsy. The prince gives his father a minimal bow; enough to show the necessary respect, but not a hair more.
"My son," Odin addresses Loki. You watch as his lip gives a slight twitch of irritation. "Welcome home."
"Father," comes the strained reply.
He then turns to the stately woman on your left. "Mother," he greets with a warm smile.
The queen comes to bestow a kiss on each of her son's cheeks. "It's so good to have your home." She turns to beam at you. "And you must be the gracious lady my sons speak so highly of!"
Loki provides your name and you exchange pleasantries with his parents before standing beside the queen, opposite Steve and Fury.
"Thor Odinson!" the herald bellows, followed by a roar of cheers and clapping from the crowd. The crown prince swings his hammer around, eliciting further excitement. You give Loki's hand a reassuring squeeze.
"Father! Mother," Thor greets as he approaches, kneeling before the throne. "It has been too long."
"Too long indeed," Odin beams with pride for his first born. "I fear that if it were not for these mandatory check-ins, I we would never see you."
"I was here only a month ago," Thor's brows draw together in confusion before he brightens like a lightbulb. "Loki and I will make a point to visit more often." The dark-haired bother exhales a measured breath beside you. You doubt he plans to follow though with that promise.
While the king reviews his youngest's contributions to Earth's safety, Queen Frigga invites you to tea.
Guiding you along a winding garden path, the matriarch asks how you and Loki are settling into your new space. She listens with interest to the explanation of your minimalist design preferences and methods taken to assimilate his more extravagant leanings.
Eventually you reach a grand birch tree. Beneath it sits a table set for two. A tiered tray boasts bite size sandwiches, petits fours, fruit, and madeleines. Small jars of curd, cream, jam, and honey surrounded it, with a heaping plate of scones and large pot of tea to complete the spread.
"I'm impressed to hear how well you collaborate with my youngest," Frigga comments as she pours your tea. "He's not always the most amiable, but he's unfeigned when it comes to you."
You smile, adding cream to cool your steaming china cup. "I think people rely too much on first impressions. Though impulsively acting superior when he feels insecure doesn't exactly help matters."
The queen nearly spills her tea, covering a smile. "That's quite an astute observation."
As your meal comes to a close, Loki appears. "I take it you're becoming better aquainted?"
"We are indeed," Frigga confirms. "I'm so glad you've finally introduced us."
"Mother," Loki smiles, "you know you're always welcome to visit Midgard."
"Maybe we should make a formal invitation?" you suggest.
Your trio walks slowly back to the palace, discussing potential opportunities for the king and queen to visit New York. A pattern forms with Loki suggesting inconsequential dates, and Frigga being forced to "remind" him they're during occasions that require the Alfather's presence onworld.
Tags in comments because I got trigger-happy posting this one 😆
Before you part ways, Loki stops a passing servant and requests they show you to his chambers, noting he requires a moment alone with his mother. You say your goodbyes to the queen until supper and her son assures he'll join you imminently.

Mad Happiness
Loki Oneshot Masterlist - Main Masterlist
POV: Second
Ship: Loki x Reader
Type: Fluff + Angst
Wordcount: 1,290
Synopsis: Your parents are dead set on having you marry Thor, and forbid you from seeing Loki until they realize you and Thor won't work out.
A/N: This is for @little-diables 15k celebration contest! This fic uses a Hamlet quote which will be in bold and italics.
Tumblr media
You paced the room, counting every step and taking calculated breaths. Isabelle, your handmaid, had gone to check the mail. You and Loki were banished from seeing each other, but that wouldn’t stop your communication.
Isabelle walked in, and you rushed over to her. In her hands lay a golden envelope with the royal stamp. You kissed her on the cheek. “Thank you, thank you Isabelle!”
She simply nodded. While Isabelle was not keen on your insistence to remain in touch with Loki, she could tell that the two of you were madly in love. She loved you like a mother, and wanted to see you happy.
You sat down at your desk, carefully opening the envelope with a letter opener so as not to rip it. The paper inside smelled of tea leaves and your prince. You unfolded it, holding your breath as you began to read.
My Dearest Flower,  It shall not be long until I hear your laugh again. Thor has managed to bring his mortal to Asgard, and Frigga is convincing Odin that they should give the couple their blessing. Once that is done, your parents will be forced to give up on the prospect of you and Thor. His love, Jane, is an interesting individual. I believe you will like her. Remind Isabelle that I am deeply indebted to her for delivering these letters. I feel mad enough as it is without seeing you, if I had no communication at all I would surely die.  Yours forever, Loki
You made your way to your bed with the letter still in hand, laying down on your back. Isabelle watched you blush and smile at the ceiling as she moved to get you ready for bed.
His love was something you could hold onto, even after your parents forbid you from meeting with him. Isabelle stood at the foot of your bed, trying to get your attention away from the sparkling daydreams that filled your head.
With a wave of her hand, you came back to the room and gave her a soft smile. “Oh! Loki sends his thanks. He says he is ‘deeply indebted’ to you.”
Isabelle chuckled. “Smooth talker, that one is. You better keep an eye out for lies.” She talked like she believed Loki to be the dark prince of lies. However, she sensed that he would never lie to you.
You let her help you up, still dazing. “I love him.” You whispered, and she sighed, taking your hand and walking you over to the bath.
“I know.” She said simply, undoing the strings on your clothes and helping you step into the warm bathwater.
As she scrubbed you, your mind wandered to the first time you told your parents about your love for Loki. They had looked at you indecorously, calling you mad.
“You're young, you don’t know what you want. You don’t know what’s best for you.” Your mother said.
“We are the only ones looking out for your future, and you repay us with these childish feelings?” Your father asked, shaking his head. “Absolute madness.”
They had already been quite upset, but you made it worse with your reply. “Aren’t we all a little mad? What is love if not madness?”
Your father slammed his fist on the table, dismissing your words. “That’s enough. Go to your room.” You began to protest, but it fell on deaf ears and you were forced to retire for the night into your room.
Even now, with Thor clearly in love with another, they did not give up on trying to get you in wedlock with the crowned prince. No matter how many times you declared that you loved Loki. It didn’t matter that he was still a prince, it wasn’t good enough for them.
They called your love for each other immature. They said that you weren’t thinking clearly, and had tried several times to snap you out of your ‘trance.’They declared your love to be out of a delirious high of happiness that made you throw all of your common sense out the window.
You couldn’t care less what your parents thought about you and Loki. You had never wanted to marry Thor anyway. Although he was a total sweetheart, he didn’t have your heart. And you didn’t have his. Thor fell for a Midguardian girl that he met during his brief banishment to Midgard.
It wouldn’t be long until your parents would be forced to accept reality. Once Thor and Jane were married, it would all be okay. You just had to hold on a little bit longer.
~~~~~
A sob burst out from downstairs. It was your mother. You rushed downstairs, finding your mother crying on your father’s shoulder. In his hand was a letter, an envelope with the royal stamp laying open beside him.
A grin spread across your face, despite your better judgment. You quickly smothered it, not wanting to further upset your parents.
“What’s all the fuss about?” You asked, walking over to them. Of course, you could easily tell that the letter they just opened announced Thor’s wedding with another.
Your mother barely could stop her cries to talk to you. “We-” She managed to choke out. “We have received a royal wedding invitation.”
You let yourself genuinely smile. “That’s wonderful.” You said. Your father scowled at you, although he was not surprised in the least.
“Now what are we going to do! Our daughter will never become royalty!” You refrained from rolling your eyes.
Walking over to your mother, you took her hand in yours. “Mother, I believe you are mistaken. Remember how there are two princes?” You asked, and she glared at you.
She shook her head, frowning. “Loki does not have the reputation that Thor does, and he will tarnish your-and our-reputation.”
“Mother, please. Reputation or not, I still love him, and he loves me. Why can’t you see that? Shouldn’t you want nothing but joy for your daughter? He brings me happiness! A happiness that often madness hits on, which reason and sanity could not so prosperously be delivered of. Deprive me of this mad happiness and I will not be able to function. I may be mad now, but you have not seen the least of just how mad I could be without my beloved.”
Your parents stood silent, stunned by your words. The clearing of Isabelle’s throat made you turn around to find her standing with a gaping Loki. You curtsied, and facing you, Loki recollected himself and regarded your parents.
They ignored him, much to your dismay, so you turned around to scowl at them. They seemed to recollect their senses and bowed.
Loki gave them a tight smile. “I have come to ask of you to join me as my date to the royal wedding. If that is alright with your parents.” He knew they wouldn’t say no. They couldn’t.
Your father sighed, having weighed his options. Although Loki wasn’t the perfect individual for you, he would have to work now that Thor was off the table. Plus, you were right, he was still a prince. Second in line to the throne, which wasn’t completely undesirable. “Of course, your highness, we approve. Isabelle, how about you fetch some tea for our guest?”
Isabelle rushed off to get some tea, and your parents left you alone. Loki slowly walked up to you, looking you in the eyes. It took every ounce of self control that you had to not immediately run into his arms and kiss him. “My love.”
“My prince.” You breathed, and he took your hand and kissed it. You dropped your self control, removed your hand from his lips, and smashed your lips onto his.
Sunlight streamed through the open window to wash over bed, sweetly warming your flesh after a night chilled by the ocean breeze. “Is this real?”
His hum tickled your ear.
“For now.”
Rolling onto your back you stared up into his pale face, his blue eyes studying you with a tenderness revealed only in the privacy of these moments.
Summary:
A year has passed since the Snap. As you look to find a fresh start in life, you end up in the wrong place at the wrong time. A small cult dedicated to the newly revitalized Norse religion chooses you as a sacrifice with the belief that this will give Thor and the other gods the strength to undo what Thanos has done. What you don't know is that human sacrifices come with a powerful magic — those who are sacrificed become linked with the god they have been given to.
It's been a millennia since a human was sacrificed to one of the gods. You've been bound to Loki.
CHAPTER 20
It was so very strange to wake up and not feel the bond to Loki. For months it was just another part of your life. You woke and went to bed feeling this need, this passion, to be around Loki. It was weak at first, but grew by the day until you didn’t just want to be around him, you wanted to be with him. The bond grew into a hunger – it did for both of you. And now that the deed was done, instead of feeling this odd tug in this chest, this invisible string connecting the two of you, you were free.
With the bond gone, now all that you had to contend with were the butterflies. Because no, you were no longer bonded with Loki magically, but in the process of this entire experience, you ended up forming a different bond with him.
You wondered if there is a way to undo a sacrifice without having to meet its conditions. Perhaps, somewhere, there is a hidden tome or forgotten ritual that could have freed you from Loki. Perhaps, but now that you no longer needed to find it, you would never know.
You berated yourself for taking so long to have sex with Loki, because by god was he phenomenal. This whole time you’d been saving your pride and dignity when you could have been having the best orgasms of your life. However, that first one probably would not have been as earth-shaking had you not waited so long.
All jokes aside, you were happy the way things turned out the way they did. You just wondered… What happens now?
It was early evening, a few hours since you’d taken your nap. You actually may have been able to sleep longer, but your raging stomach woke you up first.
“I am feeling rather famished too,” Loki said. “Come, let’s clean up and then get some supper.”
Loki drew a bath. The bathroom was a lovely peach marble, the glossy stone bathtub was big enough to hold half an elephant. Loki conjured some candles and incense to freshen up the room, and poured oils into the bathtub.
He stepped into the tub after you, holding a bar of soap. “May I?”
“Please,” you replied.
Loki gestured for you to sit against him, so you did. Laying your naked back against his chest, the god began to lather soapy bubbles on you, scrubbing your skin from head to toe. However, he did pay heavier attention to certain areas of your body, namely your breasts and thighs. No matter where he rubbed, his wandering hands tended to return to your erogenous zones.
It wasn’t very long until you were wet in other areas. Loki was like a bloodhound in the way he just smelled your arousal, knowing exactly what to do and where. He plunged two fingers inside of you while another thumbed at your clit. You tensed underneath his touch as he rubbed your slick walls, and touching your backside his length was hard and ready.
“Lift,” he commanded, and you did with no hesitation. In one swift motion, Loki was inside you. Your body needed to accommodate the sudden girth, and you moaned as he stretched you.
“It’s slippery, so hold on tight.”
“Mmhmm,” you moaned, gripping the sides of the bathtub as he began to move inside you. Ripples of lukewarm water occupied the tub. Your body was still tired from your previous excursions, so thankfully all you had to do was keep upright. Loki did the rest of the work, moving his hips within you.
Then, he picked up the pace, moving one hand between your legs to fondle your clit as he did so. His cock railed into you, your fingers blushed red as you held tight on the bathtub’s edges. You moaned ceaselessly as Loki moved inside you. The ripples transitioned into waves, sloshing over the sides of the tub and onto the marble floor. Your cunt clenched as Loki brought you higher and higher, one hand delivering you pleasure and the other keeping your hips in place so that his cock could adequately fuck you.
Your moans bounced off the walls and around the room, and Loki’s hips snapped into you, delivering the last few thrusts as he came inside you. His moans and erratic movements pushed you over the edge and you came with the god, milking his seed from him. You shuddered and sat back against him once he removed himself from you. The two of you panted heavily.
“You feel oh-so lovely, my dear. I can’t get enough of you,” Loki said with his lips pressed to your ear. He nibbled on your neck.
Your head spun as you were still coming over your high. He chuckled, taking your lack of response as his commendation.
“Let us finish cleaning up and then go to supper.”
To that you could at least nod.
—------
When you and Loki finished cleaning up and getting ready, you went down to get supper together. In the dining hall, many of the other inhabitants of Valhalla also ate. As was customary for every meal, the tables were filled with all sorts of delectable items so that no one could want for food or taste.
The chatter in the large room died down when the two of you entered. Every head turned. The talking was replaced by whispers and giggles. You watched as people clearly gossiped about you and the god with hands over mouth. Instantly, you grew self-conscious.
“They’re talking about us,” you whispered to Loki.
“Let them. There is no shame in what happened last night. Besides,” he turned to look at you and a smirk appeared on his face. “They are probably wishing they had a night so memorable as ours.”
You giggled, then Loki led you to the table the gods usually sat at – at the head of the room. Freya, Heimdall, Vidar, and Baldr were already there conversing and from the looks of their plates, finishing their dinner.
“Hello everyone,” you said as you and Loki seated yourselves.
The four gods smiled and shared a knowing look amongst themselves.
“Good evening you two,” Freya said, her smile the biggest of all. “How are you feeling?”
Heimdall chuckled quietly.
“Come out with it, Freya,” Loki said.
“Considering we all heard you two last night, I can assume you are no longer bound by the sacrificial magic?”
You blushed a bit, then smiled. “You’d assume correctly.”
“That’s fantastic to hear!” She got up from her seat to hug you. “And despite our disagreements, Loki, I am quite overjoyed that you two have found each other.”
“Were we really that loud?” you asked sheepishly, with a nervous smile still.
“Yes,” said Vidar, the god you’d only heard less than five words from in total. Everyone at the table erupted in laughter.
“But that’s a good thing that you two enjoyed yourselves and more importantly that you are no longer bound,” Freya said.
“Yes,” replied Loki.
As most people moved from dinner to dessert, Odin and Frigga entered the dining hall together. Odin held Frigga’s hand up with his own and guided her down the middle to the table the gods were seated at. Instead of sitting down, however, they faced the room. The crowd’s conversation and laughter died down as they anticipated an announcement from the Allfather.
“Warriors! Gods of Asgard! Is tonight’s feast treating you all well?”
The Vikings and gods all cheered in response.
“Excellent. Might I have a moment of your time for a special occasion?” The Allfather then gestured to Loki and you. “My son and this brilliant, brave human helped achieve the impossible. They defeated Thanos and brought back the population that was wiped out by him.”
The crowd cheered again.
“Loki, Y/N, approach,” Odin commanded.
Loki got up from his seat and stood before his father. You followed suit.
“Kneel,” Odin said. And you did.
With both Loki and you on your knees before the king of the Asgardians, Odin summoned a spear. It was a golden spear with two smaller prongs on either side, long and well-polished. Loki made a small noise of surprise – acknowledgement.
The Allfather held the spear in both hands and with the flat end, tapped Loki on his right shoulder, and then his left. Loki would tell you later that the spear was called Gungnir.
“Tonight, I grant my son, Loki of Asgard, the gift of life. If you so accept, you will be allowed to leave Valhalla – and Folkvangr,” Odin nodded to Freya, who simply raised her glass in response. “--and walk amongst the living again. However, you will not be able to return until you reach the end of your life.”
Loki cleared his throat. “Thank you, father.”
Odin said your name next. “Although you are not dead and are merely here because of the unfortunate circumstances that befell you, I extend you permission to leave, should you so choose. I am deeply sorry for what happened to bring you here, and I thank you for helping my son.”
Odin did the same with Gungnir to you, touching your right shoulder and then your left. When he pulled it back, you looked to Loki with teary eyes and a smile. He looked back, unable to hide his own watery visage.
“Rise,” commanded Odin, and both of you did. “What is your decision?”
Loki turned to you and repeated his father’s question.
“I mean, you want to return, right? You said it yourself, you hate it in the afterlife,” you replied.
“Midgard isn’t much better, but it is something,” Loki said.
You rolled your eyes. “Earth doesn’t suck that much. But yes, my decision is to go back to the land of the living. And I’m not even dead! I was just stuck here with you.”
“Would you say ‘stuck’?” Loki said teasingly. “You weren’t forced to come with me anywhere, you could have stayed in Folkvangr. I would even venture to say that you quite grew to like me.”
“Some days more than others,” you said with a smirk.
Loki turned back to his father. “Yes, Allfather, I accept your gift to regain life.”
“I accept your gift to leave,” you said also.
Frigga then stepped forward and placed her hand atop Odin’s. Together, they raised their hands and a brilliant, golden light shone from them. The gods then touched Loki’s forehead, and the golden radiance encompassed the god of mischief, working its way from his head down until his entire body shone like the morning sun. The light was so bright that you had to shield your eyes. Loki turned his hands over, looking at the golden light emanating from them. Then, quickly, the light faded until it disappeared completely.
“Welcome back to life, Loki,” Frigga said, kissing her son on the cheek.
“Welcome back,” Odin said simply.
The entire crowd of gods and Vikings roared in claps, shouts, and hurrahs. Some even threw flowers
You hugged Loki with all the force in your body, nearly knocking him over by the sudden gesture.
“Foolish Earth woman,” he said and hugged you back, lifting you from the ground and giving you a spin. When he placed you back down, he spoke again. “I don’t have to stay in this wretched place, but since Asgard is gone I must live on Earth, and that is quite a strange thought to contend with.”
“I’ll show you around, take you to all the best restaurants,” you said. “We may have to disguise you though, considering…”
“Is there a place you know where I may stay?” Loki asked.
“Loki. We’re together now, you’re staying with me.”
He looked surprised, then smirked at your candidness.
“I didn’t want to intrude, or assume. But yes, I would like that.”
You shared a kiss, smiling when you broke off.
“I wanted away from you ASAP when we first met, but I couldn’t leave you,” you said. “Now, I have all the will in the world, but I want to stay right by your side.”
“Funny, that,” Loki said, stealing another kiss. “I can safely bet that the Norns are laughing right now.”
You and Loki made arrangements before your departure, and then it was time to say goodbye.
“You’ve really come such a far way,” Freya said to you that evening. “And you too, Loki. Have fun in life again, but when you die – should you come back to my realm, I am not letting you leave.”
“We’ll see about that,” said Loki.
“Mm-hmm,” she replied, unconvinced. Then she hugged you, “Goodbye, dear.”
“Goodbye, Freya,” you said, hugging her back.
She opened a portal back to the familiar Folkvangr, stepped through, and she was gone.
The same interactions were exchanged with Frigga and Odin. It was great to see Loki get along better with his father. It wasn’t exactly the closest father-son relationship, but it was miles apart from the way Loki talked about him and from their cold interaction when you arrived in Valhalla. It wasn’t quite cordial, but it was something. Their goodbyes didn’t involve a hug, but you definitely felt a strange sort of love from the interaction.
Frigga didn’t hold back her hugs though. She squeezed like she always did in a bear hug that she pulled you and her son into. She spoke with you and Loki for a few minutes before it was time to go.
“Before you go, tell Thor that I’m so proud of him. I miss him every day,” the goddess told Loki.
“I shall, mother.”
“Goodbye, my son,” she said, giving him one last, quick hug.
Then Heimdall stepped forward. “I can open the Bifrost, but know that once you are transported, the magic of this realm will not allow you back as long as you are alive.”
Loki nodded.
“And as the Allmother and Allfather said, I am proud of you too, Loki. You have come a long way since the little boy that would sneak into other realms somehow away from my gaze.”
A small corner of Heimdall’s lips turned upward.
“It wasn’t always easy, but it was fun when it worked,” Loki replied.
“Mm,” said the gatekeeper.
Then, the brilliant, blinding rainbow of the Bifrost opened.
“Goodbye Y/N and Loki,” Odin said.
Frigga waved. “Goodbye, I will miss you so much!” She wiped a tear from her eye.
Then, with hands clasped together, Loki looked to you. “Are you ready?”
“Yes!”
Together, you took a step forward and entered the bifrost. Once again you were transported through the tumbling, roaring rainbow that felt like eons but in truth only lasted a few moments. You felt the ground underneath your feet and the rainbow disappeared.
You were on Earth again. Actually on Earth: the Earth you knew and loved. The Earth full of life and adventure.
And now it was Earth with Loki.
—----------------------
After hugging him again, you opened a portal to the very first place you wanted to show Loki now that he was going to live here on Earth with you. It was your favorite restaurant and it flashed in the image within the portal’s ellipse.
“No offense to the Viking food or anything, but I need something different,” you spoke, holding his hand.
“I, ah, actually have a different idea first,” Loki said.
“Oh?”
Loki made a movement with his hand, and a new portal formed next to yours. You allowed yours to vanish. On the other side was a small town, shown from bird’s eye view. It couldn’t have inhabited more than 500 people. There were a few homes, farms, and shops, and only one main road that went through it all.
“Where..?” you began to ask, but then Loki pulled you through with him.
The two of you appeared on the other side in the middle of the town square. A few people bustled there, shuffling between the few shops the village had. Others chatted with one another.
“Loki, where are we?” you asked. A chill went up your spine. Something seemed familiar about this town, but what you could not place.
“You’ll see,” Loki said, coldly. Then, out of nowhere, he shouted: “Townspeople!”
Most everyone in the immediate area perked their ears, turning their heads to the god.
He then cast a spell, and repeated: “Townspeople!” This time, however, his voice was amplified tenfold – like he spoke into an invisible megaphone.
You covered your ears, flinching.
“It’s time we had a meeting!” Loki continued.
He waved his hand again, and a deep purple emanated from his fingertips. Within a minute, what seemed like every citizen of the small village arrived in the town square. Each of them arrived either on foot via running or by vehicle, and all had a purple haze around their heads until they filed in. The ones who ran to be there had to catch their breath. Every one of the new visitors seemed frenzied and concerned, and then once they finally settled in: confusion. There was chatter, and the town square filled with the sound of a hundred different conversations but of one topic: What was going on?
You tugged on the hem of Loki’s shirt. “Loki, what are you doing?”
“Soon, pet. Soon.”
From the middle of the square on a raised platform, where the mayor or other official would address the town, Loki asked one simple question.
“Where is Sherrie Freberg?”
His voice was cold and low.
Your eyes widened. “Loki…”
“Why do you wanna know?” A man in the crowd asked. He looked to be in his late forties, balding. His brow was furrowed and fists balled.
“I’m glad you asked,” Loki said, straightening his back. His lips curled into a foxlike grin.
The god gestured to you. “After the Snap happened, this woman drove through this town, seeking nothing but nourishment before continuing her journey. Then, in her vulnerability, Sherrie Freberg captured her, strapped her to a pyre, and she was burned at the stake by you animals.” He spit as he said the word.
People in the crowd began to shuffle, and whispers were carried around. Some confused, others nervous. You wanted to stop Loki. This was going to go bad, very bad, but you felt like you couldn’t move.
“Have you nothing to say to that?” Loki prodded. A few people in the back of the crowd tried to snap out of the spell trapping them here, but Loki obviously was not relaxing his grip.
Then, another man came forward. You recognized him. Thick beard and a surly expression. He was one of the men who threw you into his truck and drove you to the place you were sacrificed – and goodness, that was years ago here on Earth. But for you, mere months. It still hurt you, traumatized you that people could do such a thing, treating you like a sheep for the chopping block. You had no voice, no input, nor agency, and it was terrifying.
The surly expression of the man dropped when he looked Loki in the eye. He was at the front of the crowd now, in front of the stage, looking up at the angry god.
“I am sorry, your greatness. Loki, god of mischief,” he spoke, putting his right arm over his chest. He kneeled. People in the crowd gasped. Some others kneeled and silently prayed in reverence.
Loki’s eyes widened for a moment, a flash of confusion, then anger. The man continued.
“We… We were frightened. The Snap, it took our loved ones from us and we didn’t know what to do. Ever since Thor’s return to Earth a decade ago, we converted to the Norse religion. There were gods walking among us, how could we not worship what was right in front of us? But nothing was working; we prayed, we performed rituals we read about in old books. We just wanted our families back and we resorted to…”
“To sacrifice?” Loki interrupted him.
The god squatted, placing his pointer finger and thumb under the man’s chin and pulled, forcing him back on his feet. The man groaned from discomfort. Then Loki let go, releasing his hand in disgust.
“Enough excuses. You think I pity you? What about her?” Loki asked, pointing to you. “You thought you killed her, hmm? That you could just forget? Her sacrifice would loom in your minds, but it would be easy to forget since she was merely a stranger to you. Oh, but she didn’t die that day. When one is sacrificed, the moment they would have died they are transported to the god they are given to. She felt every burning, licking flame upon her skin.”
The crowd was silent as the grave.
“Now I ask again,” Loki continued. “Where. Is. Sherrie. Freberg?”
“She’s my mother!” a woman called out. The woman was young, maybe mid-to-late twenties. She had dirty blonde hair and freckles across her face. She raised her hand to better draw attention to herself.
“And where is she?” Loki asked.
“She died three months ago,” the woman replied. “Unknown causes. I think her death was karma for what she did, to try and bring me and everyone else back. When the Avengers reversed everything, I learned shortly after coming back what she did. I was horrified. She made me swear not to tell anybody who returned.”
Loki was completely still as he analyzed Sherrie’s daughter. He flicked his hands, and the woman’s eyes glazed over. Her visage took on a neutral expression, and any hint of emotion or perception of her surroundings disappeared, like she’d been turned into a robot. After a few seconds, Loki repeated the action with his hand and she returned to normal. The woman gasped for breath and looked at her surroundings, completely unaware that she had just been bewitched.
“I believe you,” Loki said. He tapped his chin with a finger. “Well, what do we do now?”
“Loki stop!” you pleaded. You heard the townspeople’s explanations and enough was enough. You pulled his arm so he was forced to look at you.
“Why?” he asked. “Don’t you want retribution?”
“I… Maybe, I don’t know. But you’re scaring me. Half of the people here didn’t even have anything to do with what happened to me. They didn’t even know.”
“I’m doing this for you,” he said.
Loki then outstretched his hand, and the bearded man flew through the air. His throat connected with Loki’s open palm, which then snapped shut. The man gasped and gurgled as Loki began to strangle him with only one hand. People in the crowd screamed and tried to flee, but Loki’s spell that brought them here would not permit them to leave.
“Loki!” you shouted in fright.
“I said I am doing this for you,” Loki repeated with gritted teeth, squeezing harder upon the man’s neck.
The crowd screamed in terror as Loki continued his assault upon the man. He was a terrible piece of garbage, a stain upon the world for what he did. But half of the people here didn’t have anything to do with what happened to you. They didn’t deserve to be forced to witness this horrible spectacle.
And maybe the man did deserve to die, but what this was doing was hurting Loki, too. The mad, sadistic look upon his face as he choked the man out reminded you of the Loki you saw on the news in 2012 during his assault on New York; the Loki that was crazed, power-hungry, and utterly unsympathetic to the suffering of others. That may have been Loki once, but it wasn’t him now, and you couldn’t let him go back down that dark road to who he used to be.
“And I said STOP!” you screamed as you wound up a spell within you. Outstretching your arm, you used a similar spell on the man, but instead to pull him forward you pushed him back.
The force was great enough to wrench open Loki’s palm and throw the bearded man back. He flew through the air and landed on his back on the end of the stage ten feet away from Loki. His face was a deep red and he gasped and coughed as air filled his lungs again.
“WHY DID YOU DO THAT?!” Loki shrieked.
The god’s attention was completely on you now, and in his distracted state the man clumsily climbed down from the stage with the assistance of the townspeople. He still hacked and coughed violently.
“Because this isn’t you anymore, Loki!” You shouted back. “I love you too much to let you become the monster you think you are!”
He shook his head violently, balling and unballing his fists. His right hand twitched, then with a spurt of rage he punched the podium, screaming as he did so. The wood shattered and jagged pieces flew through the air.
“I am a monster.”
“Not to me. You’ve changed.”
Loki laughed sardonically, shaking his head. At the very least, he seemed to calm down just a little.
“You are one of the strangest humans I have ever met.”
He was definitely calming down. You clasped his hands in your own. “And I love you, but don’t do something we’ll both regret.”
“What do you suggest I do then?” he asked. Loki was still very agitated, but more vulnerable. He turned his gaze to the crowd, to the man still gaining his breath back. The townspeople gasped, then he looked back at you. “What they did to you wasn’t right. It was barbaric.”
“Yes, I know that!”
He snarled. “They don’t deserve… Fine. Fine!” Loki threw his hands into the air. “Let me think.”
A half minute passed as Loki pondered his options. The crowd was still deadly silent as they awaited Loki’s judgment.
“Well,” Loki spoke. “As this is partially an Asgardian matter… Perhaps they should face Asgardian justice.”
“Meaning?”
—---------
Five minutes later, Thor and Valkyrie were on the stage with you. After some magic communication on Loki’s part, he caught them up to speed. They understood and agreed to meet, and with Stormbreaker and Valkyrie’s pegasus they arrived very quickly.
Despite Loki’s murderous tirade and actions, when more Asgardians arrived the townspeople gasped, some cheered and hurrahed. A few got down on their knees.
“These – these are the people that sacrificed her?” Thor asked, incredulous and outraged.
“Not all of them!” you interrupted quickly. “Half of them weren’t here when it happened.”
Valkyrie crossed her arms and glanced over the crowd. “I say we just kill the ones that did it.”
“My thoughts exactly,” Loki said. There was a slight sadistic glee in his voice.
“No,” Thor replied. “No, we can put those responsible on trial back in New Asgard. Imprison them or execute, whatever the people decide, but only after they receive a trial.”
“Fine then,” Valkyrie said, bored.
“If that is what our gods command,” the bearded man said.
After all that happened today, you were utterly shocked that the man still kept his faith and even agreed.
“I wish I could kill you,” Loki said. The man lowered his head in fear. “Do what you need to Thor, Valkyrie. I’m done here.”
Thor nodded.
“Thank you, Loki,” you said. He caressed your arm in silent acknowledgment.
“You may have made a few valid points,” he replied. “If this is settled, where were you taking me before all this? A restaurant?”
You blinked rapidly. Loki almost just murdered someone and now he was talking food? Your brain needed a moment to catch up. “Oh – I don’t think I’m hungry anymore.”
“Then I shall take us somewhere.”
He opened a portal and, holding your hand, he guided you through with him.
On the other side, rolling hills of grass stretched out for miles and miles. Small packs of snow were melting from the spring air, and the occasional tree swayed in the wind. The sun was close to setting for the night, moving closer to the west horizon.
“Are you furious with me?” Loki asked.
“I was. And I still am mad, to be honest. But what matters is that you stopped. The people who sacrificed me deserved justice, but I was worried you were gonna go on a spree and just murder the whole town.”
“I very well may have,” Loki said.
“And those people didn’t deserve it. Most of them didn’t even know.” You paused. “Yes, I am mad at you, but I’m also proud that you were able to stop and think of something else. They’ll get their justice, I know it.”
“I suppose you’re right.”
You shared a kiss, staring into his bright green eyes. After all this time, you still couldn’t believe that you fell in love with the god that tried to enslave your planet. He was a vastly different man now, because the man back in New York wouldn’t have listened to reason. He would have slaughtered them all. While definitely far from perfect, the now Loki – the one who taught you magic, who saved you from giants from Muspelheim, who let himself die to fight Thanos – was the one you loved.
He must have been thinking similar thoughts to you, because then he said: “Oh, mortal girl, how did I become tangled up with you?”
“Wrong place, wrong time?” you said, jokingly.
“Or perhaps the right place and the right time,” he said, brushing a thumb under your ear.
He pulled you in, initiating a deeper kiss, sending butterflies fluttering in your stomach. He cupped his hand behind your head, the other resting on your waist. You kissed until your head spun and you had to break off for air.
“Again, I feel I must apologize for what you went through. Not just the sacrifice, but for when the fire giants kidnapped and hurt you, and that you got roped into fighting Thanos.”
“Oh, I –”
“And I also wanted to thank you for your courage, your intelligence, but most of all your kindness.”
“Thank you,” you replied. You felt your cheeks grow warm.
He lifted your hand to his lips, pressing them softly to your skin.
“So, where are we? What were you going to show me?” you asked.
“The World Tree: Yggdrasil.”
Loki guided you over the hills, taking your hand as he did so. As you got closer, you smelled salt in the air and heard a faraway crashing of waves.
“There’s snow here, but the ocean too? Where are we, Loki?”
“I believe it’s what you would call Norway.” Loki paused. “I am trying to recall where the spot is and I am hoping to find it before sun sets.”
“What are we looking for exactly? Giant tree branches in the sky? I’m not seeing any.”
“A hole in the ground, actually,” he corrected. “A window to a cave system below us.”
So you searched, splitting up to cover more ground. Eventually, something that fit the criteria caught your eye and you called Loki over.
“Yes, yes, this is it,” he confirmed.
You couldn’t see anything, only felt a slightly cool air wafting from this hole. It was about a foot long and about 7 inches wide at its largest point. Not large enough to fall into, but definitely wide enough to trip an unsuspecting hiker or even twist an ankle. You called ‘hello!’ into the hole, and the cave echoed the greeting back. Loki gave a light chuckle and teased you for your childishness.
“What does this have to do with Yggdrasil?”
Loki looked to the horizon, where the sun was about to touch. “You’ll see in three… two… one.”
The sun and the horizon met, and a faint glow emanated from the cave lip, the glow growing brighter by the second until you could make out the shape of a long, winding line which you soon realized was a giant branch. This branch snaked up through the cave lip and into the skies above, branching off into hundreds of tiny, smaller branches. It appeared in front of your eyes as if it had been here the entire time. The glow of Yggdrasil’s branches shined bright purples, pinks, and light blues, looking similarly rainbow colored to the bifrost Heimdall called.
These smaller branches seemed to extend miles up and out to where you couldn’t see their endpoints. After a few minutes, as the sunset grew gradually dimmer, the leaves of Yggdrasil popped into existence, twinkling yellow and white. Some of these leaves fell from the branches and you watched them carelessly fall to the ground, disappearing the moment they touched the ground.
You followed the branches above back to the base below in the cave system. Loki nudged your arm and pointed to a small creature running around the larger branches below. It was hard to make out until you noticed a twitching, bushy tail.
“I’ve heard about this squirrel from a myth I read as a kid,” you said excitedly, watching it jump from branch to branch with ease. “I can’t remember his name, though.”
“Ratatoskr. He carries messages up and down the tree, from the eagles on top to the dragon Nidhogg below, and vice versa.”
“Can we see Nidhogg from here too?”
Loki shook his head. “I’m afraid not, he’s much, much farther down – at the tree’s roots. Hundreds of leagues down. Besides, the sun is about to disappear for the night, and Yggdrasil will too.”
The two of you took in the magnificent sight of the world tree for a few more minutes until the glow of the leaves disappeared; and then the rest of the tree went too, growing fainter and fainter, until the two of you were left under the luminosity of the stars.
“Wow. That was… really beautiful, Loki.”
“I’m glad you enjoyed it,” he said with a smile. “Normally, Yggdrasil is very hard to see, as most of the branches wind around Midgard, not through it. But this is one of those few spots where a bough found its way through Midgard, and burst out this hole here. At the right angle the sun illuminates it for just a few moments until it sets.”
“Thank you for showing this to me.” You hugged him tightly.
He brushed a strand of hair behind your ear and kissed you softly.
The wrath that had sent your fire reeling banked at the cool touch of Loki’s hands around your waist. In one moment you were a raging inferno, destroying every artefact, every decoration and drape in your path, sending other gods fleeing back into side rooms and up onto the balconies. The next you were cradled so softly in his arms, his touch pushing back your anger like a cool breeze on a summer day.
The burnt cinders of the corridor were gone and you found yourself alone in a similarly vast marble throne room, sealed from floor to ceiling in onyx black marble, seams of gold tracing through the wide blocks into an endless ceiling, twinkling with candlelight.
Loki held you to his chest, petting the back of your head and down your arms, quenching the fire under his touch and, when you finally looked at him, he still held that pale blue hue that had appeared when he created a sedir shield against your explosive anger.
“Asynja,” Loki breathed your name like a prayer, cupping your cheek and drawing you closer.
“Loki,” you sobbed, collapsing back into his chest and allowing your tears to fall freely, “I don’t want to join any of their families.” You finally let the tears flow, now that your anger was subsiding, and your fear rose swiftly to the surface.
“No one can make you go with them, my darling,” Loki soothed, but you still hiccuped around another sob. “I promise, as long as I am beside you, my darling Asynja, no one shall take you from me. Do you understand?” He pulled back to look down at you, his eyes brimming with a potent mixture of anger and possessiveness.
“I understand,” you took a deep breath, but the flames that had surrounded you continued to dance around your feet and temples. “It’s just - it’s an awful lot to deal with so suddenly.”
“I know, I too have experienced a revelation about my parentage, and the powers that come with it.” He kept his eyes steady with yours but you could tell from the twitch in his jaw that he was holding his emotions back.
Confused you allowed your gaze to rove over him for the first time, he didn’t appear to be hurt by the flames but he still looked different somehow.
“You’re blue.”
“Yes,” Loki laughed a little, “I am blue. I thought it might help you to see that you are not alone in discovering new things about yourself and that you are also not alone in being frightened. Although this is only part of my other body.” He admitted.
You took Loki’s hand, colder than usual, and led him into the centre of the ballroom before tugging him to sit on the floor beside you. “What are you frightened of?” Your dress pooled around you, shimmering slightly, and Loki carefully arranged your skirts so that he could press as close to you as possible.
“I imagine the same as you, what I will become, should I let the truth of my nature show.”
“And what is your true nature?” You took his hand and traced the darker blue lines that had appeared along the back, dipping between his fingers.
“Odin was not my father, my father was Laufey, of Jotenheim, King of the Frost Giants. That is why I am Loki Laufeyson. Father, Odin, used to say that both Thor and I were born to sit upon the throne. It was only recently I learnt that he meant separate thrones and not a joint ruling of the kingdom as I’d believed. I had imaged that we would share responsibilities, divided by our personal skills in both warring and intrigue. But father had other plans. My brother, of Asgard, would rule over the people that we love, the home that I knew. Yet I, the son stolen from his homeland, was destined for a throne in a room I did not remember, a people I did not know, a land I have visited but once.” He choked on his words, fighting the emotion he’d tamped down for so long.
“Oh, Loki, I’m so sorry. He should never have kept that from you, or teased you and Thor like that.” You squeezed his hands tighter and Loki turned to give you a sad smile.
“Fear not, darling, I do not wish for a throne, it is no great disappointment to me that it belongs to another.”
“What are you afraid of then?”
“My form, this is a body, a form, that I was given as a child by my mother. Frost Giants are unlike Asgardians, I fear that my Jotun form would be a terrifying prospect for all around me, there is precious little regard for me as it is, I should hate to ruin my reputation further.” Loki smiled again, patting your hand. “We should leave, we can return to Tonsberg as planned, we’ll be safe there and we can put this whole sorry mess to rest. We have no need to fear prophecies, we can write our own futures.” Loki seemed so sure, confident that he could walk away from this threat as he had so many others that you almost believed him.
Perhaps you could, but you would have no secrets between you if you did.
You allowed him to rise, but tugged him back when he offered you his hand, “show me.”
“Excuse me?”
“Show me, let it go, be a Jotun, show me.” You repeated, raising your eyebrows and watching him expectantly. “I already saw your skin go sort of blue, what else happens?”
Loki looked almost bashful, “really, darling, I have no concept of what might happen. Frost Giants can be ten feet tall, I would not wish to risk any harm coming to you.”
“Loki, please, look at the size of this room,” you both looked up at the ceiling, though it was so high you could barely see it, shrouded as it was in the darkness of the marble.
“If you insist,” he conceded, “but only for you, my darling.”
Loki stepped further from you, and as he did he began to change subtly. When Loki used his sedir the change could be tracked by the journey of the magic over his body, but this was different. He grew taller and as you watched you missed his hair lengthening, growing down his back. His skin, an icey blue, was marked with more and more intricate designs and his eyes became red. His growth slowed and you stared up at him. Naked and in his full glory for the first time.
Loki must have been at least ten feet tall, if not more, though the ballroom ceiling was still far away he could reach up and touch the cascading chandeliers, he was certainly towering over you, sprawled as you were on the floor, attempting to take in his full height.
“Wow.” You continued to stare, your hand reaching out for him.
“Is wow a positive expression?” Loki asked, his voice still the same, though louder now. The sound vibrated through you and you clenched your legs together.
“Uh - definitely a good thing.” Loki was always beautiful, but this form, so tall and broad, muscular and strong, so purely alien. He was truly a god and you felt small before him. “I bet you could pick me up with one hand.” You said, touching his calf absently.
Loki laughed in response and you felt hot, you hadn’t meant to say that out loud, but it had taken you by surprise how attractive you found this form.
“Probably,” he quirked an eyebrow. “Shall we find out what else we could do?”
Loki bent down on her haunches and extended a hand towards you. His hands were still decorated with whirls of darker blue, and you traced them with your own fingers. With a grin he scooped you up, knocking you backwards so that you landed in his open palms.
Shocked, you gazed up at him open mouthed and his smile didn’t fade, instead it morphed into the teasing grin that knew you were in for both pleasure and mischief.
In this form you looked different too, although Loki was always taller he had certainly never viewed you like this. So small and vulnerable in his hand. He clenched his fingers gently, folding his thumb over your waist and circling your back with his fingers. You curled your arms around his thumb, hanging on tightly.
When he stood you shook, each of your movements amplified in his palm, as if he was back catching creatures in the forests of his youth, a nymph of his own to play with. He clenched his jaw against the thought - a plaything. His own goddess to play with.
“You look so - delicate.” He cooed, keeping his voice lower now you were closer to him.
“You look enormous.” You choked out, heat spreading over your chest and neck despite the chill of his touch. “Please, Loki, distract me from all this?” You asked, he had been right, this was exactly what you needed to feel less alone, less strange in this alien world. But now you needed more of him, you’d never get enough of anything that Loki could offer you, you’d take every facet of him, every version.
“What do you require of me, my tiny darling.” Loki lifted you higher, holding you to his cheek, your legs dangled in the air but your arms reached forward, touching his cold skin.
You leant towards him, pressing your lips against the expanse of smooth skin that covered his still sharp cheekbones, and pressed tickling kisses there, “make me forget, Loki. Please?”
“How could I deny such a polite request.” He cupped his other hand around you and, in a warm shimmer of magic, you felt your clothes vanish from your body. Still surrounded by his fingers your skin tingled, erupting in goosebumps at the press of his cold palm.
Loki lifted you back towards his face and pursed his lips, blowing warm air into his cupped hands and you giggled. You’d been expecting him to launch into some debauched idea of his, knowing that at least ten crackled around his thoughts at all times, but his playfulness caught you off guard as it always did.
“Loki!” You squirmed in his grasp and he held you all the tighter for it, bringing you back to his lips. This time he opened his hands and held you still, his second thumb covering your arms over your head so you couldn’t move, and then kissed the soft swell of your stomach. His lips were as cold as the rest of him, but as gentle as ever.
You giggled again, heat skittering over your skin and then shooting between your legs. His thumb swiped over your body and he kissed you again and again, turning you this way and that to find a spot on your side, on your hip, that he hadn’t yet worshipped.
“My darling,” he sighed, tipping his hand back so that you fell into his palm again, sprawled before him, “what a delicious little morsel you are.” His smile was vulpine and the only warning you got before he licked you, his tongue dipping between your spread legs and swiping up towards your breasts. You squealed in surprise, trying to close your legs but his fingers tangled over them, holding you open and he licked and licked, pausing only to blow gusts of cold air over the heat of your flesh.
“I could eat you forever and never be satiated.” Loki fit his tongue between your legs, teasing the tip against your entrance until you felt him stretch you gently. He angled his tongue upwards, humming softly and you swore you saw all the stars exploding as the vibrations thrummed through your bones. Loki continued, tilting his face forwards so that he nose pressed on your lower stomach, his tongue still angling upwards and your body sang for him, taut and ready.
“You’re devine,” he cooed, the rush of his words like a breeze, cooling your slick as it ran down your sticky thighs.
“Please, Loki, I can’t - I need - I want to cum - I’m going to - agh!”
Like a sacrificial offering he kept you pinned open until you were begging, pleading for more, the ever tightening coil of your arousal turned and turned in your stomach until you could take no more, gushing onto his tongue with a scream of pained pleasure. The sensations were overwhelming, heat and cold and pressure and pleasure and ecstasy all rolled into one.
Loki gave you a few seconds to recover before he lay you onto the table, sprawled before him.
“You are truly a feast, Asynja. Look at you, covered in us both and still smiling.” He kissed your cheek the best he could, swiping his thumb over your belly and thighs, rubbing in his kisses.
Your chest heaved, sweat cooling between your breasts and you longed for his touch again, even if it was icy, anything but this loneliness now that he had put you down.
“Loki -” you gasped, reaching for him and finding one of his large hands, your hand barely fit around his finger but his touch was soothing and pleasant on your heated skin.
He brushed his thumb over your breasts, around your nipples, down, down until he could lift your leg and cup you again, his thumb covering your folds and applying pressure to your aching clit. Your body no longer belonged to you, given over to the pleasure that touch created, your hips lifted, rolling into the pad of his thumb and he let you, a satisfied smile on his face as your pace increased, riding his hand. With an obscene moan you arched from the table and into his awaiting touch.
“You’re not satisfied, darling?” He smirked as you looked at him with heavily lidded eyes, “I promise I’m going nowhere until you are completely sated,” he bent over the table, looming over you and filling your senses, “we shall only leave when you are panting, crying for me to stop.” Loki kissed the side of your face, close enough that you could twine your hands in his hair in an effort to keep him there, so close you thought you could breathe him in. Despite all of the changes to his body, his hair felt the same, soft and silky and smelt like the expensive shampoo he insisted on using. It blended with his usual deep amber scent and something else, perhaps something Jotun, that reminded you of snowy days and icey nights.
“God - Loki - I - fuck me, please.”
You both looked down at the sizable erection tenting his magically enlarged trousers, his words rumbled through you, his lips still at your cheek, “I do not wish to break you, my Asynja, perhaps something else may sate your lusts.” His cock bobbed under his trousers, twitching in time with his words, and you knew without looking in his eyes that he was using every ounce of his self control not to at least try and push himself deep inside of you.
Suddenly his thumb was gone and you gave a low whine at the loss, dropping a hand between your legs to try and continue the glorious cresting of your impending orgasm, but Loki moved your hand away.
“Patience, darling,” he chided, still cupping the backs of your legs, tugging you to the edge of the long table. Instead of his thumb he stroked his pinky finger down your stomach, one hand keeping you still, the other drawing teasing circles over your belly button, lower and lower with each circle.
Even his smallest finger felt enormous, Loki in his usual size was enough of a stretch and heat flooded through you at the thought of trying to take even his finger.
“Lo’,” you were incoherent now, thrashing on the table with every movement, but he pressed on, the pad of his finger at your entrance, spreading your arousal over your clit and pushing slowly, intently, until you felt yourself stretch around him.
“Norns, Asynja, you are the most delicious woman in the nine kingdoms, in every realm, every universe, every time,” he cooed, pressing further until you keened, your hands rushing back between your legs as if to both stop and continue the onslaught of pleasure.
You had never been so full in your life, so full and so loved, held as you were between Loki’s gigantic hands, his lips kissing away the sweat on your brow, sparkling like diamonds in the low light.
“Loki, I - I -” your fingers struggled to find purchase in his hair - on his hands, slipping over his arousal soaked skin and you were dimly aware that that was the feel of you, hot and slick between you, dripping onto the table, before your orgasm hit you at full force, just from the stretch alone.
“Good girl, Asynja,” Loki growled, moving only slightly as your walls clenched around him, he could feel very flutter and movement on his sensitive fingertips and then you gushed, squirting over his finger and soaking the his chin where he perched between your legs.
Loki’s red eyes went darker, a blood red full of his widened pupil and drinking in every inch of your sweating, heaving body, your velvet skirts pushed up around your waist and bare legs shining with your arousal.
“Fuck, Loki - that was -” you dropped your head back onto the table with a thunk, staring glassy eyed at the lights twinkling above.
“It’s my pleasure, my darling.” He drawled, grin feral, tongue poking out between blue teeth. The first lap was soothing on your heated skin, sending goosebumps up and down your legs.
You peered up, tucking your head into your chest to view the god between your legs, still worshipping you, still thinking only of you. It was overwhelming, his devotion, and you wanted - needed, to make him feel the same.
Carefully you eased yourself to the edge of the table, level with his smiling face, and then you let your feet drop to the floor, a hand on his bare chest, pushing him backwards until he lay on the marble floor. Loki was the only other colour in the room, a bright star in the darkness. The bulge of his trousers was pressing against the zipper and you carefully settled on his hip, pushing your hands against the fabric.
It was Loki’s turn to groan now, the sound a deep rumble that travelled down his body and back between your legs. A fresh wave of arousal made itself known, but you tamped down your feelings. It was Loki’s turn now.
He helped you to tug the zipper down, freeing his impossibly large cock from its prison.
“Fuck.” The word was out before you could stop it and you left your mouth hanging open while you took in his full glory. In his Asgardian form Loki was already generously endowed. But as  Jotun - you placed your hand against the firm length and marvelled at how delicate his skin still felt, albeit colder than normal. His cock twitched beneath your palm and a large bead of precum slithered from the tip, tracing the contours of a thick vein that ran up the bottom.
“Please -” Loki whimpered, his hands twitching. One came to wrap around your waist, gently holding you, the other he clenched in the fabric of his trousers.
“Can I taste?”
“Yes - of course, please, Asynja, do not torment me, can you not feel how I ache for you. How my body needs you?”
He squeezed his eyes closed, the sound of fabric ripping slowly accompanying the tightening of his first.
“I’d hate to leave you aching, my Prince.” You teased, leaning forwards and wrapping your hands around as much of his girth as you could. Tugging yourself closer to him you let your tongue dancing over his throbbing vein, arching higher towards the flare around the head. Marvelling at the beautiful shades his Jotun form afford him, you missed a second roll of precum escaping down the side and soaking your arm.
“Norns -” Loki clenched his jaw, “I must apologise for -”
“Please, don’t.” You knelt up and licked him again, eagerly tasting as much of him as you could. “You taste a little different, it’s fascinating.”
“Asynja,” he warned.
“Well -” you licked, “you do.”
Reaching the sensitive head you dipped your face towards his slit, pressing your nose into the soft flesh and pushing your tongue down, swirling it and pulsing as he did to you. You were rewarded with more and more of his cum, weeping past your pressing fingers.
“Asynja, I cannot hold back any longer - my darling -”
His cock pulsed, you could feel it against your body were you had pressed yourself against the entire length of him and it felt devine. Your body responded, clit aching for the feel of it.
“Do that again,” you begged, rubbing yourself against him, pushing on his length until you were lying on his stomach, wrapped around him, legs thrown over his base, toes curling.
The hand at your waist squeezed too and you felt the sensation of him moving you gently, the drag and pull of skin on skin, your pussy wet and wanting against his cock.
“You feel so fucking good, my darling, I can’t help it, your little body is perfection, made for me, made for my cock.”
You mewled, licking and sucking at his rigid length, thrusting your hips into him in seach of your own pleasure.
“I’m going to cum, Asynja and you haven’t even tried to move away.” He growled, his voice wavering as he neared his release.
“Don’t want to, Lo, I want your cum, want you to drench me in it, want you to use me and rub me on your beautiful cock, please - please!” Your sobs of pleasure joined his own, a deep knot tightening in the pit of your stomach.
“My goddess, my princess, my darling I will give you every drop you wish for.” He promised, fingers so tight you knew you’d have an array of bruises to enjoy tomorrow, but now, plunged into the most exquisite pleasure you’d ever felt, you latched onto the spot below his glands and sucked and sucked and -
Loki came with a shout, chasing your own release with each pulse of his cock, and spurted down your arms and hands, your back and legs. He painted his own chest in ropes and ropes of cum until he sighed, releasing your body and sagging into the floor.
Slowly he shrank until you were lying chest to chest on the cold floor and laughing.
“Loki, please tell me we can do that again.” You mumbled into his chest, lazily kissing his now, slightly warmer, skin.
“I’d be disappointed if we didn’t.” He agreed, “although I think we may traumatise my poor brother should he stumble upon us. Perhaps it’s time we find him and return to Tonsberg?”
“Can’t we stay here and have a nap?” You closed your eyes defiantly, hoping he’d give in despite how uncomfortable you both were.
“Sadly, I can not allow a Goddess, such as yourself, to take her rest on a such an appalling hard surface. Only the finest pillows and sheets will do for you.” He pressed a kiss to the top of your head, “luckily, I know just such a place.”
DOSSIER #201
R.V.A CASE LL-4.1 & DX-4.1 | ENGLAND, 1813
You swear he will be the death of you.
It's an unconditionally hot summer — but that doesn't stop the men from gathering on the front lawn of the manor for a good game of rugby in the late afternoon sun.
Beside Jane and Darcy under the pergola, you bury your face into your fan.
Mr. Loki has forgone his jacket — there's rivets of sweat running down the long, strong stretch of his neck and chest. His sleeves have been rolled up, and you inhale tightly as you watch him laugh at something Thor says and back peddles down the greenery. He's all legs. Tall, sharp, and handsome.
And sweating.
Good lord.
You reach for a glass of lemonade. The condensation bites at your fingertips. You feel a bead of sweat run down your back.
Even here, in the shade, it's hot.
Blame the view.
Jane and Darcy are no better. The conversation died a while ago when the jackets and shirts were tossed to the grass in favor of denoting teams.
When the match finally ends, you try your best to fan yourself and resume your reading. Jane and Darcy decide the heat isn't worth suffering any longer.
Loki has other plans.
He's still a bit out of breath when he approaches the covered tea-table. His smile is boyish — a rarity.
"I hope you enjoyed the sport."
You drag your eyes across him. "Seemed rough."
Loki squints into the sun, his hands perched on narrow hips. He perches one leg up on the second step, and leans. He looks relaxed. Truly a sight you try to remember. He must have noticed.
"I believe we're headed to the pond for a swim," he says, turning to eye Thor back over his shoulder, "Should be back in time for dinner."
His curls are sticking to the back of his neck. You can see the muscles of his back through the thin linen of his shirt.
You clear your throat. "Do enjoy."
"I'd offer another view," he says slowly and with enough coy to kill, "But, I fear that may not be entirely decent for a lady of your standing."
You nearly choke on your water.
"Must you tease?"
His laugh is gentle. "It's in my nature, Doctor."
"Yes, well," you mutter as you stand, "Enjoy the swim."
You gather your book, and turn — but before you can step down, there's a hand offered to you. Loki looks softer and less like the man whom you'd had such a dire rivalry with during the spring. Summer has brought different feelings, it seems.
You take his hand and ignore the burn of your skin on his.
He helps you down the steps, then gives a small, courteous bow.
"Perhaps... Chess, after dinner?" he calls, after you return the bow and begin down the path.
"That is a view I'd adore, Loki."
A/N: This drabble is for the 14 Days of Valentines community project hosted by @muddyorbsblr. I'm so thankful to be a part of it and I hope you all enjoy!
The song
Pairing: Loki x reader
Summary: Just a bit of fluff at a gala
Series masterlist
Tumblr media
"Six months. Six months and you're just now telling me you're an Avenger?!"
"Shhh! I'm not really an Avenger yet. More an Avenger in training..." you roll your eyes at Wanda's attempt to placate you. "So will you come?"
"Of course, I'll come. If I can find something to wear," you take a sip of your coffee, mentally rummaging through your closet. "I'll see if Bram will give me the next morning off."
"Thank you, thank you, thank you!" she nearly bounces in her enthusiasm. "It really means a lot."
You check your phone and stand. "I'm going to go back in, but this conversation is not over. You have a lot to spill. You want another turek?"
You tug at the draping embellishment on your shoulder, chewing your rouged lip as you wait to check your coat. Avengers Tower is even more intimidating than you expected, swarming with the rich, the powerful, the famous, and of course the press.
"Here," you text Wanda as you enter the ballroom and look around. Someone who looks suspiciously like Caitlyn Jenner, 'and probably is,' you remind yourself, stands near the bar talking with the Falcon. In a nearby cluster of seats the Winter Soldier, a worn paperback in hand, drinks with a balding man who appears surprised and flattered by the attention.
"Hey!" Wanda greets you as she nears, a stoic blond in tow. She introduces you to Vision. "I'm so glad you made it. I was just telling Vis you're the only person in the city that makes turek like they do back home."
"I was very pleased to hear Wanda's found someone outside the tower to bond with," the android notes. "Unfortunately, I must excuse myself. I believe Mr. Stark requires my attention."
"He seems nice," you grin at her. "How long have you two been together?" You take a couple cocktails from a passing waiter, handing her one as you circle the dance floor.
"Is it that obvious?" she glances around. "We haven't exactly told anyone yet."
"Your secret's safe with me," you laugh. "Though I don't think any of your teammates will be asking me anything."
As the two of you chat, you get the feeling you're being watched. You glance around, but don't make eye contact with anyone, so you shrug it off. As you turn back to Wanda, Clint Barton approaches.
"Hey kid, who's your friend?" he asks.
She makes your introductions, explaining that Clint was the one who recruited her mid-battle. "She's an alarmingly powerful witch," he says, a note of pride in his voice. "Even got into Thor's head."
Your eyebrows rise in curiosity.
"My specialty is creating illusions. When we met, I used my power to instill fear in the Avengers; toyed with their memories to manipulate them." She looks at Barton. "But not you. You saw me coming."
"Like I said, once was enough," he looks up. "Speak of the devil..."
"...and he shall appear," a voice smoothly completes from behind you.
Lace and satin swish as you face the inhumanly tall newcomers. "Hello, my lady," the blond booms, gesturing to himself. "Thor of Asgard, and my brother Loki."
"It's lovely to meet you, darling," the dark god kisses your knuckles in greeting.
"H-hi," you respond as gentle cords roll through the room.
"May I have this waltz?" he asks, his thumb grazing the back of your fingers.
"Um, yes," you feel warmth spread to your cheeks as he leads you to the dance floor.
He guides your left hand to rest on his shoulder, slipping his arm around your waist to pull you close. "Are you familiar with the Victorian rotary waltz?"
"I don't really know any waltzes," you admit.
"That's quite alright, darling. I'm an excellent lead," his left hand covers your right, holding it near your thigh as he sways at the edge of the floor, small steps allowing you to catch the rhythm. As he pivots you into the line of dance you instinctually look to your feet. "Eyes on me. I assure you my toes will be quite alright."
You raise your lashes obediently, allowing him to steer you, losing yourself in his viridian orbs.
"You're a natural. Are you sure you haven't danced before?" he asks.
"Just a bit of ballet."
"That explains your excellent posture," he smiles. "With this style of waltz, you'll want to slip your right foot between mine as you step forward." You do so and your steps become more fluid.
"What brings you to this gala?" he asks.
"Wanda asked me to come. She's a regular at the cafe where I work."
"So, you make the coffee you mortals are so fond of?"
"Amongst other things," you laugh. "We're best known for our kolaczkis. They're a Czech pastry."
"You've piqued my interest," a smirk tugs at the edge of his lips.
"We're uptown," you smile. "In Yorkville. I work most mornings if you'd like to come by."
He spins you as the song comes to a close, his arm never leaving your back, and leans into a gentle dip. His eyes simmer with intent. "I'll be sure to make an appearance."
A/N: I'm hoping to make this a series of drabbles to continue through the event. If things work out, we'll get to see more of their firsts (ideally with more detail in the coming pieces).
Thanks for reading!
No Rhyme or Reason
Loki Oneshot Masterlist - Main Masterlist
POV: Second
Ship: Loki x Reader
Type: Hurt/Comfort; Fluff
Wordcount: 903
Synopsis: You’re feeling down for no particular reason, and when you blow up at Sam, Loki comforts you.
A/N: Was feeling sad and mad for no reason yesterday, so this is what I wrote :) hope it helps someone out there.
Tumblr media
From the moment you woke up, you had been acting strange. Everyone had bad days, and this had turned out to be one of yours.
When you smiled at him half-heartedly and skipped breakfast, Loki could tell that something was up. He didn’t want to prod, so instead he was attentive, checking in on you and making sure that you were alright.
As you went through the motions of your day, you tried to appear as normal as possible. But, to no avail, your teammates could tell when your usually-warm laugh was fake.
They tried to be extra careful, while still trying to figure out what was bothering you. Unfortunately, Sam didn’t grasp the gravity of the situation until it was too late.
He laughed at the attitude that shone through the curtains you draped up to hide it. “Man, it must be that time of the month.”
You and him had a friendly relationship, always poking fun at each other. Which is why you wouldn’t have normally been put off by his careless comment. But with your current emotional state, you took the comment to heart.
“Thank you for being so interested in my cycle, Wilson, but it’s really none of your fucking business. So do us all a favor, and shut the fuck up for once.” You lashed out, and everyone stared at you, shocked, as you got up and left the room.
You weren’t one to typically say something like that to one of your friends, even when they said stupid shit. So everyone knew that there was most definitely something wrong.
They weren’t sure what to do, but Loki sent a glare to Sam and left the room after you. They all knew that Loki would be the best person to go after you, since you were more open with him.
As Loki left, Sam looked down, embarrassed. He felt bad, making a mental note to apologize to you later with some ice cream.
Loki found you curled up on your bed, under the blankets. The light was off, with the only traces of sunlight coming from behind the closed blinds. He knocked on the open door softly, and you mumbled an incoherent response.
He slowly crawled into the bed beside you, pulling you delicately in his arms. You instinctively settled into him, basking in the warmth that was ironic for a frost giant to provide.
After a few moments of silence, he broke it with a soft whisper. “What’s wrong, my love?” His voice was so sweet, so tender, and the words tugged on your heart.
“Nothing.” You replied, muffled since your face was still hidden by the layers of sheets and blankets. Loki pulled them away from your face so he could see you, tucking a loose strand of hair back in its spot.
He smiled at you. “Now, I know that there’s something wrong, darling. And not just to do with Wilson’s illogical remark. You’ve been distant all day. You can confide in me, you know? Tell me what troubles you. I promise to do my best to make them go away.”
A tear fell down your cheek as you looked up at him. “That’s the thing, Loki, there’s nothing wrong. There is no rhyme or reason to my feelings, but yet they persist on keeping me in this dreadful state.”
Loki wiped your tears and held your chin. “Sometimes that’s what feelings do. They decide one day for us to be happy, and one day to be sad. It happens to all of us.”
His words comforted you, but of course they didn’t make all the sadness and doubts go away. “But I shouldn’t feel this way. Normal people don’t. I shouldn’t want to punch everyone and then myself for absolutely no reason.” You let out a stale laugh near the end of your sentence, and Loki pulled you closer.
“Shhhh. Silence those self-deprecating thoughts of yours, I will not listen to their lies. You are allowed to feel this way. As I said, everyone does, even normal people. They just don’t display it for everyone to see, but they certainly do feel it.” He stroked your hair to calm you. “Of course, you are anything but normal, my love, as you are one of the most unique and exquisite creatures of the universe.”
You let yourself smile, genuinely this time. “You think so?” You asked, looking into his beautiful eyes.
He laughed. “Darling, I know so.”
The two of you layed there, comfortable with each other under the comfort of many fuzzy blankets. It was amazing that just his presence could make you feel better, and you felt your spirits begin to recharge. You might not be completely back to normal yet, but with the help of those you loved, you knew that you would be back there soon.
Suddenly, the memory of yelling at Sam came rushing back to you, and you groaned. “I need to apologize to Sam.”
Loki chuckled. “Why should you, he deserved it.” He kissed your forehead. “Plus, he’ll probably look to apologize to you first. You should have seen the look on his face when you stormed out. He looked like he was regretting all his life decisions.”
“Oh, god.” You said, burying your face into his chest. Apologies could wait. Right now, you were going to remain in your lover’s arms, where you felt safe and enough.
