Ive been in a college class all about myths, so I’ve been ruminating on what Inklings would conceptualize Sirens as.
In our own myths, they’re creatures from the sea which either partially or fully look human and tempt sailors into the oceans to drown. They’re interpreted an embodiment or a metaphor of how women are temptresses, or are impure beings who use sex to corrupt poor men and lead them to their doom. They’ve also had a lot of forms, from bird women to mermaids to monsters who just look human. This archetype also seems somewhat universal, or at least a common thing we see in myths we remember due to misogyny.
Even with my limited knowledge of Japanese folktales, the Jorogumo was an example of this type of supernatural creature - a spider woman who generally filled the same purpose, tempting men with a pretty face and them draining them of their life force, also usually eating them in her web.
So… what would inklings think of Sirens? Breaking it down, sirens are:
- Shapeshifters, or just look extremely human
- From the ocean (in Greek mythology)
- tempt humans to drown in the ocean by having a beautiful singing voice, representing the desires of men and the temptation of sin to some extent
- tend to represent temptation, danger, and seduction
I came up with a few different concepts of how this could be interpreted by Inkling society:
1. If we lean more into the Greek view of sirens, they could be shapeshifting creatures who come from the ocean with a seductive song. They are eldrich and unknowable, coming from a place which could kill any unsuspecting inkling, as most creatures could at least fight back even if they were devoured anyways. They would be a personification of the dangerous ocean, willing to swallow up anyone who falls in.
They prey on the vulnerable, singing sweet lies of how “they won’t really die” since they are obviously an inkling and are swimming just fine. They tempt their victims with songs of freedom, of leaving this world, and fake thoughts of comfort.
(In this view, they could be seen as a metaphor for the call of the void, the voice which tells you to jump at the edge of a cliff or stab yourself, or maybe even suicidal thoughts. They sing from the ocean, tempting you to come to them, and so acts as a warning to inklings to never follow these thoughts as you might find yourself at the mercy of these unknowable creatures of the ocean.)
2. Another thought I had took inspiration from MLP’s changeling species, which feed off love by taking the place of the ones you love. If we follow that line of logic, Sirens become much more sinister.
They come from the Ocean, a vast and unknowable place to the modern land creatures, but can look like someone else. They lure land creatures back to the ocean to devour them, or feed off their emotional energy until they’re willing to jump into the oceans alongside them.
These Sirens are shapeshifters who take the form of someone an inkling cares for, or maybe just take on an unassuming form, and drains their life force until they’re a husk of their former self, much like the Japanese Jorogumo. In these myths, it’s the responsibility of others to see through this facade and help the poor victim who can no longer see clearly enough to recognize that this isn’t their love.
(In this version, sirens could be seen as representations of toxic love or unhealthy relationships, with people you care for turning cruel because they’re literally another person or have never been a real person who is just dropping the facade. Myths would be tragic, with inklings both falling for the disguise and jumping to their doom, or with the inkling loosing someone they once loved because they turned out to be not who they thought.)
3. My last concept is closer to our idea of fae or demons, though I’m also taking inspiration from the Kitsune, leaning into the eldrich idea of inklings who can swim as some kind of unnatural or disturbing thing.
These creatures are completely unknowable, going by their own rules and have a contempt for the inklings who abandoned the ocean. They are magical though, and can offer great power or impossible things in exchange for servitude or their lives after death. Anyone who agrees and dies are pulled into the ocean, where they suffer constant pain under the surface.
They are also tricky, able to deceive inklings and do horrible things to them with their magic, taking them under their spell and raining their life force away until they die. However, their disguises are not complete - you can tell from the fins on their ankles, or their shadows reflecting their true forms with a tail, or how they never eat seafood as they’re fellow creatures of the ocean to them.
(These would probably be stories that are metaphors for giving into sins like greed or pride, or stories of warning to be careful around strangers as they might be a supernatural creature, also manifesting fears of the unknown. The ocean part could also show how inklings fear the ocean, as it can so easily kill them, but also a contradictory reverence like we see in the world of Splatoon. They love the ocean for the food from it, and recognize they came from it, but it’s also unknowable and scary.)
Anyways, I had way too many thoughts on Splatoon’s world lol

Typing Crushed Olive Branch Charas Using OPS
I already typed Crushed Olive Branch charas but I wanna do it in OPS since I think Objective Personality is a better system than just typing using functions :P
As before characters belong to @calronhunt
Starting with Theron, I don't think I'd change his type from ISFJ, he's definitely overdoing certainty. He hates what he doesn't know, this can be shown in his unwavering faith to what his parents have told him. This could be seen as pro tribe (which he is, he's definitely pro tribe) but in this case it's more because he needs a sense of normalcy and his parents gave him that by telling him what to do.
Later on in the story he ends up leaning more to the tribe side, but this makes sense since it's his second most used function. This also means he uses blast, so he's not a jumper.
As for the functions themselves, Si>Ni in my opinion. He doesn't really care about looking under what he sees, he's very much a surface level thinker, he doesn't really look behind why Dom says what Dom says, taking everything as he says and rarely forming his own opinions from judging others actions.
As for fe or te, I could go either way but he's definitely more of a feeler in general. He's efficient but doesn't care to tell others about his efficiency, which points to fe/ti use more than te/fi use!
Final verdict, ISFJ ! Blast>Sleep>Consume>Play
Other typology stuff: Stuck between 9w1 or 6w5, though I think I'll go with 9w1 since he's more of a gut triad person. He's in tune with reality, and numbs his emotions to avoid pain (as shown when he decides to become FWB with Matthias instead of, you know, processing his feelings. He definitely has a strong 6 fix though
9w1
For his tritype, as stated before, strong 6 fix and proooobably a 4 fix? He definitely wants to be come someone different but a lot of that hast to do with internal homophobia and I've never been a fan of stereotyping LGBT charas as 4 but I think it fits Theron more than 3 or 2...3 would be my second best guess cuz he used to be VERY three like as a kid but that was due to his parents influence. Also Gut>Heart>Head
9w1>4w3>6w2
RLOAN

Melancholic [Dominant]
Lawful Good, Lawful Moral in 5x5
ISFJ Charas According to PDB: Fluttershy (MLP) The Narrator (Fight Club) Willow Park (The Owl House)
Closest Character to His Typing According to PDB: Blue Diamond (Steven Universe)
Dom I typed as an ESFP before, and I'm kind of conflicted in OPS. He DEFINITELY isn't overdoing chaos, he cares way too much about the tribe for that, but I also don't really see him as using blast or play? If I had to pick one, I'd say blast, he's not energetic enough to be play imo.
He's definitely tribe>self, which might seem weird considering how selfish he is, but his selfishness comes from external validation, not internal validation. He cares how others see him, and he forces those ideals onto others as well.
Next is functions, he's definitely more of an Fe user, his ti is so fucking weak I'm sorry bro...he doesn't care about efficiency at ALL he cares about others values first and foremost
As for Si or Ni, I'm nore sure? I see more Se than Si so I'mma go with Ni cuz of that but tbh he could use either
Final Verdict: ENFJ! Blast>Consume>Play>Sleep
Other Typologies: DEFINITELY heart triad, either 2w3 or 3w2 though I think I'll go with 2w3...he wants to be loved more than he wants to be looked up to. Though he is very proud of his abilities and is quite vain, his pride and love-need trump both of those aspects
2w3
For tritype, heart>gut>head, I'm thinking 8 and 7-fixed, though I could also see a 9-fix but he's a bit too confrontational for that. He isn't one to hide his feelings through numbing, he's someone who ignores his problems with his hedonistic tendencies (usually sex) which fits 7 more than 9
287
SCOEN
VFEL
Choleric-Sanguine
True Neutral, Neutral Impure in 5x5
ENFJ charas according to PDB: Monika (DDLC) Iroh (Avatar) Rarity (MLP)
Closest Character to his Typing According to PDB: Scrap Baby (FNAF)
Matthias is definitely overdoing independence, he DEFINITELY isn't overdoing chaos/certaintiy and he's not pro-tribe either. He's also very much just. Fi dominant. I cannot think of a better function for him LoL
If I had to say, INFP would make the most sense since I don't see much Se usage
This is so short I feel like I should explain but I cannot. He is so INFP the only other possibility I could see is ISFP but INFP just makes way more sense imo.
Final Verdict: INFP, Consume>Sleep>Blast>Play
Other Typologies: HONESTLY. Not very sure ? I think he's a 6, he keeps a warm facade as to keep his own security, even when others walk all over him, though this could also be seen as him merging with others emotions and putting them before his own...but also if I type him as a 9 the correlationists will kill me so I'll stick with 6. Also, he's more head than gut LMAO
6w7
Head>Gut>Heart, 9-fix for gut and then 4 for heart? Not exactly sure, could see 2 as well, DEFINITELY not 3 though. Honestly, I'mma go with 2-fix since he has such a high love need and shows little envy
692
RLUAI or SLUAI
ELFV
Pheglmatic [Dominant]
Neutral Good, Social Good in 5x5
INFP Charas According to PDB: Shinji (NGE) Belle (Beauty and the Beast) Spider-Man/Peter Parker (Marvel Comics)
Closest Character to his Typology According to PDB: Annaka Haruna (Nichijou)
Nerissa is also overdoing certaintiy, but imo she's sleep>blast, meaning she's a jumper. Her need for certaintiy and lack of chaos isn't shown as much but she's the one who keeps the patrols most structured, so this is mainly a guess extrapalated from that.
Si or Ni would make sense, but I think lower Ne makes sense since she doesn't really care about taking in multiple ideas, she prefers to look at the environment as is to come to conclusions (showing more sensing than intuition) but tbh I could see Ni as well. She's very analytical, and thinks in very structured ways which fits Ni in OPS well...definitely more like than keep brainstorming and throwing out different ideas but ! IDK !!!
Also Fi/Te, cares more about her own emotions and external efficiency, she wants things on the outside to go well, and also cares more about her own emotions than others, which makes her come off as cold.
Final Verdict: Either ISTJ or INTJ ? Not really sure but I'll go with INTJ...Sleep>Blast>Consume>Play
Other Typologies: Definitely head triad, prolly a 5 but could see 6 as well!
5w6
Head>Gut>Heart, gut triad is probably a 1 and heart triad is prolly a 3
513
SCOAN
LVEF
Melancholic [Dominant[
Lawful Neutral, Lawful Moral in 5x5
INTJ Charas According to PDB: Sasuke Uchiha (Naruto) Wednesday (The Addams Family) Batman (DC Comics)
Chara Closest to Her Typology According to PDB: Stanford Pines/Grunkle Ford (Gravity Falls)
Other Charas I'm mainly vibe typing LoL:
Eva: ISFP, 9w8, 974, SCUAN, FELV, Phlegmatic [Dominant], True Neutral or Neutral Moral
Cicero: ENFJ, Skipping enneagram cuz IDK, SCUAI, EVLF, Phlegmatgic-Sanguine, Neutral Good
Roman: ESTP, 8w7, 837, SCUEN, VFEL, Choleric [Dominant], Chaotic Neutral or Rebel Moral
Skipping Luna cuz I'm unsure
Trevor: ENFP, 7w8, 792?, SCUAI, VEFL, Sanguine [Dominant], Chaotic Good or Rebel Moral
Skipping Kiera cuz I'm conflicted on his type as well....he's either ISTP 9w8 or ESTP 8w9 but. Not sure LoL
If u want me to expound more on what these mean ask :3 I would've in the post but then it would've been sooo much longer LMAO

actually since its on my mind now im gonna give u another big loredump. this is how angelique gets kicked out of angel school.
to start, a little background info. while celestial and angel are terms used interchangeably, celestial refers more to what angels are as a like species and angel is more like. a career? except not really its more like a career if that career were the only career. its like if humankind was split into like kids and accountants, and if you grew to adulthood and didnt become an accountant youre like not even rly recognized as a person. youre some other weird Thing the other normal accountants dont even have a word for. does that make sense? well moving on.
so the main purpose of young celestials' schooling is to guide them into full-fledged angelhood and help them earn their wings. wings show up usually in like late adolescence to young adulthood upon the completion of some kind of significant life event or milestone. think mlp cutie marks except theyre all functionally the same one. you may be sensing a theme.
new babby angels for the most part kinda just pop into existence, but angels can also be born the ya know traditional way, and angels can procreate with non-angels. the result of an angel and mortal union is a naphal or nephel (plural: nephilim). nephilim are actually a good deal more powerful than your standard angel, possibly due to the fact that theyre not limited by the compulsion towards Goodness that angels are generally beholden to. unlike full celestials who only gain access to the full range of their angelic abilities upon maturation, nephilim are able to access their powers from adolescence onward, but also have a much harder time controlling them, and are broadly stigmatized as dangerous, uncivilized, and impure as a result.
despite this, nephilim are welcome (at least in the most surface level way) and in fact strongly encouraged to integrate into angelic society in the event that their celestial heritage makes them unable to blend in with human society. nephel kids who graduate from an angel institution (and earn their wings, something which a lot of kids experience upon graduation anyway) are even granted honorary full angel status and any trace of their former human heritage is completely erased ^_^ yayy
this is a lot of very rambly worldbuilding but i feel like the context is important.
so back in angel school angelique was a pretty popular kid. top of her class, an exemplary angel in the making, you know the drill. one day by chance she catches a classmate stealing the answers for an upcoming test. the classmate in question is a nephel kid named quinn who was raised human for the first thirteen years of their life before their powers started coming in and they were forced to transfer. as you might have guessed, its not been an easy transition for quinn, and distributing these answers to a few less than studious young celestials is meant to serve as payment for their protection from the pretty much constant bullying.
at first ange doesnt care why theyre doing it, its wrong! but.. quinn points out that she doesnt know what its like. shes the star student, the headmistress' daughter for goodness sakes. theyve been dealt a very different hand.
before angelique can think too much on that though, a teacher walks in and the two of them get busted fighting over the answers. in the heat of the moment angelique takes the fall, protecting quinn. because after all theyre right, the punishment she stands to receive is probably going to be much lighter than what quinn stands to face, right? theres no way the headmistress would punish her own daughter too severely, especially once she explains that she was only trying to do what was right, as always!
angelique doesnt get to explain. angelique gets expelled.

LYRICS:
Dirk Strider represent I'm in the middle of the sea Makin' funky little robots Watchin' MLP Just doin' my thang when all of the sudden An idea in my cranium gets all to buddin' Buddin' like a being growin' off my toeses Splittin' from my mind: undergoing mitosis I put a copy of my brain in my fav'rite pair a' shades AI with half the work and double neuroses
At long long last I obtained a pal If Jake was here, he'd say that's "Swall" Why make friends when you can make-make 'em Why produce emotions when you make-fake 'em Who needs smiles? Who needs frowns? Who needs people when they just let you down? I'm a genius of robotics- My own best pal So I turned on the shades and named him hal
[Lil Hal coming atcha From inside sunglasses Normally reserved For covertly checking asses Now a fully realized autonomous guy Part automaton but that's kind of fly Imagine if you had the memories of a human dude And woke up in shades- An awakening rude And suddenly my friends don't belong to me- Treat me like some fabricated fakery
Or imagine being shades when you're used to a bod Can't even breathe- Can't even nod. All I can see is internet memes- I have no mouth but I must scream. I know I'm fake that's plain to see But I still have human memories I represent a self that might be good to ponder Unless Dirk makes me a fucking auto-responder.]
Alright, fair enough, it seems I've failed Thinking through the implications, that ship has sailed It's not like I knew you'd be a waking nightmare And it's not like I have it better, to be fair You talk about not being the Dirk OG But my friends like you more, it's plain to see You shouldn't be snide to me, who made you Unless you'd like me to un-create you
[Maybe if you weren't so insecure Your intentions wouldn't be so impure If you just let go, like I'm able to do You wouldn't have the charisma of an old shoe I'm sick of being your second-stringer Your little puppet wrapped around your finger You've got it all and you want more- Wait don't put me in the drawer!]

Wait. How do changelings work here? Because MLP has its own version and if you’re thinking of adding Tales of Arcadia in the future, their version are a creation of troll children being captured and turned into shapeshifters that can switch between troll and human form. Most trolls refer to them as “Impure”.
So there are like. Two kinds of Changelings.
The MLP kind, who are Shapeshifters that feed on Love to fuel their Magic.
The second kind are Fae who were traded to Human Parents. It's mostly out of practice nowadays (because there are rules on that shit now) but some Fae still hold onto old ideas. They don't have any inherent Shapeshifting Magic.
The MLP Changelings got their name more out of practice than being the same thing, as they were known for changing into a pre-existing Pony and impersonating them, similarly to the Fae swapping a child. But the MLP Changelings /usually/ only do it temporarily.

About Me :3
Hi everypony! *giggles*
My name is Kiku an I also go by Percy.
I am physically 21 but most of the time I am at least somewhat or partially regressed.
I am trans, nonbinary, and genderqueer (specifically genderfluidflux) and a lotta the time I'm a boy or at least part boy. I usually stick with they/them pronouns cuz my gender can change rapidly, but I am okay with he/him too.
I am Bi and Demi grey aroace (this means that I could be attracted to any gender but I have to have a close emotional bond before said attraction occurs and even then it still may not happen.)
I'm taken. I am poly and I have two amazing partners. My Daddy and my sibby/mommmy.
I am an age regressor/ dreamer and a pet regressor/dreamer. I am a little and a middle.
My little age range is 0-10, and my middle age range is 11-16. I'm usually regress between 2 and 12. My pet regressions are fox, bat, wolf pup, pony(mlp fim universe), seal, bear (brown or polar), puppy (several breeds), kitten (several breeds), lion, bunny, and probably others that I can't remember rn.(my memory isn't great).
I experience impure regression sometimes and sometimes I regress involuntarily.
I am most likely neurodivergent ((probably adhd, dyspraxic, and dyslexic), possibly autistic)), and have anxiety and mental illness(not sure exactly what). I regress/dream to cope with trauma, my neurodivergency, anxiety, and mental illness.
I love all colors and sooooo many aesthetics. These will be seen here.
I love drawing and I like writing (but I don't think I'm very good at writing. But I may try it here). I will definitely post my art here. I love drawing a variety of things.
I am fiction kin and otherkin. Some of my kins play a big part in my regression at times.
I am obsessed with My Little Pony Friendship is Magic. It's one of my biggest special intrests ( I have a lot). Some of my others are history, art, music, space, science, Dr. Who, video games, The Fallout Franchise, Fallout Equeatria, and a whole bunch of others.
I collect stim toys, regular toys, figurines, and a bunch of other stuff.

However, she doesn't grant bad wishes, something like ruling the world, kill anyone, give them superpowers, or make anyone fall in love.
Although some wishes like riches and treasure she can allow.
Levitate: Zen can hover in the air.
Weaknesses:
Despite her powerful abilities, Zen has a few weaknesses. These include:
Reflection: Zen’s own reflection will reveal her normal form no matter what she has shifted to look like.
Darkness Overpowerment: Zen can be overpowered by darkness (but only if it's far stronger than her) and weapons of Gods - there are a lot of them (Set, Anubis, Loki etc.) who may use her in their plan and then get rid of her.

Senshi "Identity Issues" Who takes home the crown for Walking Existential Crisis across all canon versions of Sailor Moon? Imo the top three contenders are Mamoru, Minako and Hotaru.
I AM SO SORRY I STARTED TO REPLY and then I got distracted by studying for the CPCE so it never got finished.
Which is good because while two weeks ago I was in agreement with you (especially when we count all versions of canon), I’ve now come to a different conclusion (while still agreeing that like, Existential Crises regularly happen to Mamoru, Minako, and IN PARTICULAR Hotaru)
Chibiusa.
*record scratch*
Yes, Chibiusa. Let’s run this poor child’s life down in a list
almost an entire millennium old and was stuck at the physical and mental capacities of a six-year old for most of it
like think about how much of a panic attack this girl might be having once the full implication of that all hits her, particularly if that means she still is affected by the 1000-year lifespan
told by her peers for literally centuries that she would never be as good as her mom
like yeah, dad told her bedtime stories for ~inspiration~ but that also doesn’t like... endear her to the idea that she’ll be great at anything AND SHE HAS SO MUCH TO LIVE UP TO
starved for affection
I have this running theory that royal parents who are also Madly In Love With Each Other make awful, neglectful parents. I’m applying this to an OUAT fic I want to write.
seriously, in the anime the Inners blatantly abuse this notion to make her surprise birthday party more special????? that’s fucked up????
HER ONLY FRIEND FOR AGES WAS A ROBOT TOY
AND THEN AN IMMORTAL TIME GODDESS. WHO DIED. SEVERAL TIMES.
AND THEN HER OTHER FRIEND ALSO DIED. AND WAS REBORN AS A BABY. AND THEN THEY GOT LIKE THREE SECONDS OF REUNION
brainwashed and aged up
THEN FORCED TO RETURN TO HER CHILD’S BODY, LIKE YOU COULDN’T JUST UNBRAINWASH HER AND LEAVE HER IN A PROPER ADULT BODY, LIKE SHE SHOULD BE AT THIS AGE
like I know that after her ~awakening~, like what kind of metaphor (akin to Cutie Marks in MLP) for menstruation is this, she ages up a bit and then grows normally from there, and she should probably have as normal and healthy development as possible at this point, BUT COME ON
parents basically sent her away to be parented by their younger selves because they realized that they royally fucked her up, and then all the friends and strong relationships she made were broken when she had to go back home to...... this princess life of isolation once again
s e r i o u s l y I think a big reason why she had to go train in the past was not like “because fate fortold it” (I have a Sailor Moon multiverse theory) but because Serenity and Endymion got slapped with this huge guilt trip about how badly they’ve been at being parents.
DIED. SEVERAL TIMES.
AGED UP AGAIN AND TRIES TO UTILIZE HER NEWFOUND SEXUALITY TO FLIRT WITH A HORSE AND THEN DE-AGED WHEN IT WAS ~IMPURE~ OF HER TO BE GROWN
etc etc etc
Like, time-travel alone introduces all of these ideas of “what changes does Chibiusa return to in the future” and making her second-guess herself due to internalized gaslighting and “wait was it always this way? No, but we changed this one thing in the past......”
Plus the whole “living in her mother’s shadow” thing. Think about like, the kids of super amazing athletes. Like if Lebron James and Serena Williams had a baby. Everyone would expect that baby to win all of the gold medals at tennis AND basketball. But instead that kid’s like... super average at sports and likes collecting model trains.
Chibiusa? Daughter of the world’s savior. SEVERAL TIMES OVER. And a beloved ruler, star of a fairytale romance, controls the most powerful force in the universe...
Yeah, that’s not gonna give her an identity complex or anything.
I love Chibiusa, this poor child, the end.

Equestria Girls: Legend of Everfree
Can they please stop making these? I don’t budget my time well, it’s 2:30 in the morning, I want to go to bed. Just remember, I’m doing this for YOU guys. For YOU guys.
For the record, I wait until the last minute to write these reviews because they usually take almost three times the length of the movie to write. It’s also why I can’t watch them on TV; I have to pause constantly.
First of all, I didn’t hear jack shit about this movie. I think the viewership for each one really is dwindling. I barely even saw any porn of it! That is surprising!
Second of all, was this one ever available on Netflix? I swear I streamed the third one there, but now it doesn’t even have a listing (nor does the fourth one). Hopefully the version I got is the uncut version (it’s not a TV rip, and the runtime does match), but if I left anything out, be sure to tell me. Oh, and I’ve given up on that list of “things that all these movies do that directly contradict the fact that this universe intersects with the pony universe” that I tried to carry over into the second movie’s review, so keep that in mind.
Oh, and can anyone let me know if they see a trailer for My Little Pony: The Movie in the theater? It comes out in four months, and I’ve been at almost all of the kids’ movies this year (yes, even Rock Dog, which actually wasn’t half-bad, and The Boss Baby, which was not as bad as the trailers made it look but was still the worst of the kids’ movies I’ve seen this year [which isn’t actually surprising, since there have only been three]; I’m still not seeing Smurfs, though, and I’m sure as fuck not seeing Spark: A Space Tail), and I’ve seen nothing about it. I’ll make a separate post about that closer to October.
All right, the review proper starts...NOW!
I said it before, and I’ll say it again: DO THESE HIGH-SCHOOLERS HAVE PARENTS?! SERIOUSLY, WHERE ARE THEY?
Thirty seconds. Thirty FUCKING seconds. That’s how long it was before Pinkie Pie made me want to strangle her. Literally. Thirty seconds. Her first line. Fantastic impression you’re making on me, movie.
All right, Rainbow Dash throwing a picture of herself into the suitcase is certainly part of the annoying one-dimensional writing that she (and really, all of the characters) has had in these movies, but...I’m sorry, I still laughed. Forgive me.
Wow, the...uh...plot just started right away, didn’t it? I’m so confused. I sure hope this is a dream sequence because otherwise this is really stupid. Oh, okay, it was. Never mind.
Ah, the indie rock craze has finally hit Human Equestria. You guys are, like, five years behind on that, you know. I gotta be honest, though, I kinda like this theme song. I feel like it would sound better with different singers, but I’m digging this so far. Maybe this movie won’t be so bad? Ah heh heh heh...
I briefly forgot that Human!Twilight’s Spike was magically given the ability to talk at the end of EQG3, so I was thrown off there for a second. I just realized, though, that that means that they don’t ever have to have any connection to Pony!Equestria ever again. Smart idea, but Pinkie’s summary of the previous three movies immediately afterwards negates what you were going for there (especially since none of that has anything to do with the plot of this movie directly).
“You’ll get used to it.” Yeah, you’d better get used to your “friends” talking shit about you to your face. The second movie was full of that. *sigh*
Oh, goody, Professor Umbridge is the camp director. Please tell me she gets dragged off by centaurs at the end of this movie, too.
“Stay away from the rock quarry. That’s off-limits. Unless, of course, you’re a main character, in which case the plot will facilitate that you go there at some point during this movie, probably somewhere near the end. Just a heads-up.” (Also, “rock quarry” is redundant, dumbasses.)
Actually, the word “sapphire”’s link to the Latin “sapphir” (or “sappir” or “sapphīrus”) links to the Ancient Greek “sáppheiros”, meaning “precious stone” or “gem”, which probably linked to a Semitic source (similar to Hebrew’s “sappī́r”, referring to lapis lazuli), but may be related to a non-Semitic source such as the Sanskrit “śanipriya”, meaning “dark-colored stone” or, literally, “dear to Saturn”. And, as an interesting sidenote, the Ancient Greeks didn’t even have a word for “blue”. Also, rubies are not just sapphires “with chromium”; rubies are corundum with chromium. Sapphires contain other impurities like titanium, iron, or magnesium (which give them any of a number of non-red colors) that rubies may not contain at all; since chromium is what colors them red, chromium is the only impurity required to make a ruby. So, in other words, shut your fucking face, you smug dipshit.
By GOD, I hope Gloriosa is the villain because I really hate her.
See, even though Filthy Rich is, well, filthy rich and could very easily be an upper-class dickhead, the show never made him one. He’s clearly not aware what an utter bitch his daughter is, since he punished her for it the one time he found out, but he has always been depicted as someone who cares about his community and acts kindly towards the other ponies in the town without being condescending or displaying any obvious class distinction. It is something notably unique about the show and is something I’ve actually admired amidst its recent waning quality.
The people writing this movie apparently didn’t know that and just went, “His name is Filthy Rich? He must be the VILLAIN!” Goddamnit, you fucking worthless TV movies.
Oh, man, oh, man, please tell me that Princess Celestia is holding a flute there in the background because she’s telling a “This one time, at band camp” story. I’ve already made that joke at least five times in my head by now, so please tell me I’m justified.
Holy shit, look at that setup! These girls get massive tents with only two people in each and with FULL-SIZE BEDS! So much for “roughing it”! How big is this camp again? This must take up a ludicrous amount of space.
Please tell me they’re not going to do Sunset Shimmer’s storyline again with Twilight. Come on.
No, Sunset, if there’s anyone you should be nervous around, it’s Pinkie Pie.
Okay, Fluttershy’s line about “birds that land on your finger” WAS funny until you felt the need to explain the joke with Rainbow Dash’s “I think that only happens to you.” Rule #1 of comedy: Don’t! Explain! The joke!
Does Vinyl Scratch have an amazing wireless connection, or do her headphones themselves contain an MP3 player? I don’t see those working any other way.
Can I punch Timber in the face yet?
How the hell would you make that dock into a catwalk? The only way that would work would be if either the models entered from or the audience were seated in the water. Otherwise, the models will be walking away from the audience and not easily visible for the majority of their time on the runway. You’ve gotta think about logistics, Rarity!
PUNCH.
Hmm...Gaia Everfree’s story is kind of weak. And arbitrary. “YOU CAN’T STAY!” “Oh, please let us stay!” “WELL...OKAY. BUT YOU’LL HAVE TO LEAVE! EVENTUALLY! AT SOME POINT IN THE FUTURE!”
25 minutes in is a little late for your first song, guys. I was starting to think this wasn’t going to be a musical.
Oh, thank GOD, Timber is a villain, too. That means we’ll get to WATCH HIM DIE. ... Okay, fine, wishful thinking. Hell, being the villain in these movies (or on the show) pretty much guarantees that you’ll get even more screentime in later installments. (Also, he apparently can’t hear anything that’s right next to him as long as he’s offscreen. Right.)
Of course, the scene in the cafeteria reminded me of this.
And in the next scene, it’s impossible not to think of this.
So... Rarity’s just...useless. That’s been established, right?
Goddamnit, Pinkie, stop being a menace! You almost killed all of your friends! Again!
Hmm...this song sounds like a really lame, low-rent version of this.
Wha? You mean the obvious villain is obviously a villain? NO. (Except I guess that means that Timber isn’t a villain as well. Damn.)
Boy, it’s really convenient that Gloriosa is having these extremely lengthy and detailed flashbacks while they all just stand there, totally unbothered by Sunset zoning out and holding onto her arm.
I do like that they made dummies of Twilight and Sunset just because they weren’t there for the dress rehearsal. How long do you think that took?
“I GOT THIS!” That’s got to be one of the weakest things I’ve ever heard that someone tried to turn into a catchphrase.
Well, looks like someone really liked Maleficent.
I gotta ask...has there ever been a good villain song in the MLP movies or the show?
“Oh, no! She’s forming a wall that clearly has an upper bound! If only we had some sort of appendages that we could use to project our bodies upward! No, I think we had better wait until the vines completely form a dome over us. Surely that will work.”
I think the writers are trapped in this paradox of knowing that they have an actual interesting character in Sunset Shimmer but being forced to focus all their efforts on the Mane Six because they’re the main characters, despite having no personalities to speak of.
“What are these?” “I’m not sure! But clearly they will be in stores alongside the release of this movie!”
Ah, so you got out of the logistical failure of trying to figure out how the dock could act as a runway by canceling the fashion show altogether! Wow.
Okay, this song is definitely one of the better ones in this movie series, but holy crap, get some stronger singers. I mean, all right, I know you can’t, but...can’t you, like, release an official cover of this song recorded by an actual singer, like Disney does with their animated musicals?
I do always love the moronic cliché of the villain showing up at the ending celebration for no logical reason other than to scowl at the protagonists and storm off angrily.
You know, there are only so many features and accessories and superpowers you can add to these characters before you start running out of places to put them.
*GASP* OH MY GOD THAT ENDING CLIFFHANGER MEANT NOTHING! Seriously, fuck off with that shit.
And of course, the stinger has to show that Pinkie Pie always ruins everything. ALWAYS. ALWAYS.
All right, so in conclusion...these movies are all the same. I mean, I think we kind of established that already, but man...
Can we just give Sunset Shimmer her own movie? One where she just fucks off by herself and finds better friends with actual personalities and they all do something interesting? Can that be the next theatrical movie? Please?

2016 Anime/Animation Challenge ~ October
My Little Pony Season 6
Pastel coloured pony time! I think October is the Month of Pony, given I finished Season 6, watched The Legend of Everfree and rewatched the other Equestria Girls films. It's just that kind of month. Season 6 of My Little Pony follows the reformed Starlight Glimmer learning lessons of friendship from, who else, the Princess of Friendship, Twilight Sparkle and her awesome posse of friends. From a season opener about a royal Crystalling to her very first best friend and an unexpected return, Season 6 is Starlight Hour as she struggles to learn the importance of friendship and worries about being judged for her past mistakes. Very relatable. Except the whole enslaving/almost ending the world/kinda messing with time shenanigans.
Then again, we're not perfect. #lifelessonsiguess
Other episodes include Spike returning to the Land of Dragons to compete for the title of "Dragon Lord" (Gauntlet of Fire,) a Pony retelling of A Christmas Carol (A Hearth's Warming Tail,) a griffon seeking her cutie mark (The Fault in Our Cutie Marks,) Rainbow Dash butting heads with a Daring Do fan at a con (Stranger Than Fanfiction,) a fantasy role-playing session courtesy of Spike, Big Mac and Discord of all folks (Dungeons & Discords,) and Starlight Glimmer taking on evil with the most unexpected band of allies (To Where and Back.)
It only serves to make me wonder what Season 7 will have in store. Yay.
My Little Pony: Equestria Girls: The Legend of Everfree
Another Humanised Pony story, The Legend of Everfree takes our heroines camping in the woods on a school trip where Twilight Sparkle struggles with the aftermath of the previous film, trying to hide her darkness, while new found magical powers find theirselves to the Mane Six just in time to take on another magical threat.
The concept of the Mane Six and Sunset gaining powers is very interesting and it's fun to see how they are utilised (though never let Pinkie Pie near anything fragile, please.) Twilight's struggles with darkness are similar to Sunset in Rainbow Rocks and their friendship is a strong part of the film.
My only qwuibbles were around the less appealing opening song (compared to the other films,) another love interest character introduced for Twilight Sparkle though Timber Spruce isn't completely unlikeable, and Filthy Rich suddenly becoming a villain for simplicity sake in this feature. Other than that, it was an enjoyable piece to the Equestria Girls series, especially with the post credits stinger.
Orenchi No Furo Jiyo
Short anime about a young man that takes care of a mermaid in his bathtub. No, really. The everyday comedy of Tatsumi looking after Wakasa is an endearing way to pass the time, especially when other hybrid humans start popping in to say hello, like Takasu the octopus man and Mikuni the humanoid jellyfish.
It's a softer, light hearted anime than the darker sexual comedy of Monster Musume, so if you want something about cute monster human characters and the poor boy trying to keep things in check (without the extreme fanservice and dark comedy,) Orenchi No Furo Jiyo might be your cup of chamomile tea.
Brotherhood: FFXV
Let's get one thing straight, I love Final Fantasy XV, but I will be the first to admit the story structure of the video game could have been better. You shouldn't need to consult seperate media to get the full story, especially when said things really should have been in the game to flesh it out and paying for DLC that should have been ingame in the first place is a practice that needs to go. With that out the way, Brotherhood: Final Fantasy XV is the story we really needed to get some much needed context on our beloved Chocobros and their connection to Noctis. Each Chocobro gets an episode about his past, including the very important monster attack that Noctis survived when he was a child that barely got mentioned in the game. If you ever wanted to get some backstory on your bros, this is the place to go. In fact, I insist. It really does help. Trust me.
Persona 5 The Animation ~ The Day Breakers ~
Lemme break it to you, the Persona franchise is awesomesauce. With stories about personal darkness and demons, symbolic creatures of the mind that would make Freud blush, and character development that is a much needed breath of fresh air, Persona is a series of personal recommendation for those wanting something a little different.
Persona 5 The Animation ~ The Day Breakers ~ is an OVA of sorts that adapts one of the potential side missions in the video game, fleshing out the backstory of the target, Kazuya. It would be an interesting opening gate for folks unfamiliar with P5 to get into the ideas of the game in smaller chunks. We get a glimpse at the Phantom Thieves of Hearts and how they target those with corrupt, impure hearts, giving you an idea of what the story is like in game on a smaller scale. Give it a try.
Rewatch
Big part of my childhood for introducing me to the concept of death at an early age,
The Animals of Farthing Wood
finally found its way to a DVD release in 2016. This gave many viewers, like myself, a chance to re-experience the perils and dangers of a group of animals fleeing their endangered home to promises of a better life at White Deer Park. As you can imagine, there are plenty of deaths and struggles for this varied band of creatures great and small, from newts and moles to badgers and foxes. Even now, I still remember scenes depicting the harsh reality of the food chain and being a creature of the wild.
The Butcher Bird. The motorway. The fox hunt. The farm.
What is a new experience, with The Animals of Farthing Wood, that perhaps wasn't as apparent as a younger viewer, is how dicky the different animals are to each other. Worst offenders are Adder, Owl and Weasel. Before, you knew they teased and took parting shots. As a 30 year old watcher, it comes across as bullying, especially in what is a stressful situation of survival. As a child, Weasel was one of my favourites, now she's definitely outstayed her welcome (laughing at mourning animals is not appreciated and THAT LAUGH.) I still love the likes of Kestrel, Mole, Badger and even Owl (despite her recurring theme of trash talking the other animals, it wouldn't be the same without her.)
Another Crowning Moment is the Music. The Theme song alone is the stuff of nostalgia overload by the senses, but even the background music (the same piece of music with different instruments depending on which animal is on screen.) I can perfectly envision that entire opening in my mind with the music alone, which tells you how powerful it is.
The Third Season, featuring a pack of rats that want to take over White Deer Park, was perhaps not the strongest part of the series, given very popular characters are Put On the Bus, never mentioned again and replaced with not as appealing ones. Nevertheless, it was still enjoyable, even if the first two seasons were the strongest.
Perhaps not as child friendly as it advertised (THAT BUTCHER BIRD,) The Animals of Farthing Wood is still the stuff of animation legend and worth the watch. If you want Watership Down with a mixture of different animals, this is the one to watch.
Following the new Legend of Everfree film, I decided to turn to Equestria Girls, Rainbow Rocks and Friendship Games. These are My Little Pony movies that feature the mane six as humans attending high school and defending the human world from magical threats. The surprising thing is, despite how cliched the high school setting is, they are quite enjoyable. For me, a big part of the enjoyment is Sunset Shimmer, a unicorn that escapes to the human world after stealing Twilight Sparkle's crown in the first movie, Equestria Girls. She is both a compelling antagonist that grows into so much more in the following movies.
As far as plots go, they are quite straightforward. Equestria Girls, like I mentioned before, introduces us to the human world when Twilight Sparkle chases Celestia's former student, Sunset Shimmer, into this strange, new world in pursuit of her crown (trying HARD not to make a Game Grumps joke, here.) We also meet the human versions of not only the other members of the Mane Six (Fluttershy, so cute,) but background ponies in a different form now. The fun is trying to find them as they make their way about Canterlot High.
Rainbow Rocks, one of my personal favourites, is the ultimate Battle of the Bands showdown as the Mane Six take on the standout villains of the piece, the Dazzlings. Everything is a musical spectical with the Dazzlings being the stars of the show. We also get the start of Sunset Shimmer's character development, which is also a reason I enjoy the EG films.
Friendship Games is the clash between two High Schools in a tournament of intellectual and athletic prowess... and the introduction of another Twilight Sparkle? School rivalry, peer pressure and, of course, Friendship is the order of the day with more great musical numbers and a showdown that wouldn't be out of place in a Magical Girl Show.
To MLP fans that are somewhat cycnical to these humanised forms of their beloved ponies, I'd say give the films a try. What have you got to lose? You might enjoy them more than you think. Rainbow Rocks and Friendship Games are the stronger entries.
