#MMO Games
Videogames I wish were real #37
A cozy and laid back MMO game where instead of the usual battle classes, the classes are all about crafting, gathering or selling products or services. All the combat classes that would normally be available to players (paladins, archers, wizards, etc) are only available to npcs.
You can choose a crafting related occupation, such as the artisan class, and then pick a certain subclass and become a blacksmith or a tailor, or the catering class and become a baker or a chef or open a small café. In order to avoid unfair competition, when setting the price of a product there would a be a minimum and maximum price range for every product. You can also open a shop to sell your wares directly to customers, as well as hire npcs to help you gather resources or to manage the shop while you are away/not playing, although you will need to pay them a fair wage and they'll get a day off a week.
If you'd rather go for a gathering class you can become a miner, woodcutter, farmer, angler, etc, and sell your produce to shops and merchants. Since some of those occupations would require you to abandon the city to gather materials, if you intend to go to a dangerous area you can hire adventurer npcs to act as your guards, or if you want to venture into an unknown area, you could spend money in a map, or pay a cartographer to chart a map for you.
And if you wish for a more adventurous occupation that allows you to travel through the world, you could always pick jobs such as mail carrier, merchant, archeologist, cartographer, etc.
Besides hiring npcs to help you run your store or act as bodyguards when you explore dangerous parts, you can also befriend and even romance and marry them, and if you cultivate a strong enough platonic or romantic relationship with an npc, they might offer you discounts, sell you rare items, gift you stuff or even offer to help you for free.
Player level is tied to the occupation of a character, if you switch to a different job you've never tried before you'll start at level 1. Whenever you get bored of a certain life, you can just switch to a different one or create another character.
Similar games that actually exist: Fantasy Life and Fantasy Life i: The Girl who Steals Time (suggested by @fantasy-life-fan), Palia

My sister and I are looking for an online MMO game from the 2000s, similar to Habbo Hotel, but the characters were not chibi, they had long legs, big heads, faces drawn on them like old PlayStation games.
We absolutely don't remember the name, only that it was categorized as MMO (I don't remember the name because as a child I thought it was called MMO 😭)
Other details I remember:
The characters had a house with gray walls which was a room (you could customize it), the flag of their nationality was almost always hanging on the wall
In the main menu you could select your language by clicking on the various flags
Character customization consisted of a white background, the character remained in the center, you changed the details of the head and clothes like on TS1
When you went out in public places you could use a car, and there was also a Christmas themed map, with snow
I always found it on the same website where there were games like Club Marian and MoonBase

I've been playing so many hours to occupy my mind and pretend that there's nothing wrong with it sometimes that I ended up parachuting into a game called Once Human, and during this time playing there is only one thing that irritates me which is that I DON'T KNOW HOW TO ALIGN MY HOUSE 😫

Palia | First Impressions Of This Cozy MMO
This is a game that works well as an MMO to see other players around and make the town and areas more lively, but certainly does not require any minimum amount of players to make it enjoyable or playable.
Check it out!

I haven't played an MMO in many years, but I was pretty big into The Realm back in the day, and in retrospect it's genuinely hilarious how many eary MMOs just... didn't have moderation tools. Like, the "moderators" were regular players with special beyond-max-level characters who got paid by the developer to wander around enforcing the game's terms of service by physically fighting rule-breakers. There was no mechanism for banning accounts, so if they wanted to get rid of you for good they'd cast a spell that would teleport your character to a "jail" region with no exits, and if you managed to noclip out and return to the regular play area they literally had no way of knowing about it unless a moderator who knew about your ban happened to see you. Just an incredibly dumb way to run an online service.

Looking for recommendations for new games. I've been playing WoW for years now but Dragonflight just isn't for me. I'm not enjoying it. So I'm looking for new games to try. I'd love some recommendations from you guys. I've played Star Wars The Old Republic, The Elder Scrolls online, Final Fantasy 14, Rift, and Guild Wars 1 and 2. I really love mmos and prefer them to other games but I'm interested in all types. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Videogames I wish were real #56
A cozy and casual life simulation game like Animal Crossing New Horizons where there is a communal Dreamland people are able to access when they go to sleep. Each player has their own Oniric Area that can be customized to their liking. You can make your Oniric Area look like a cozy countryside, an exuberant forest, a gorgeous beach of crystalline waters and plenty of other biomes or settings. You can also customize the style of your house, and decorate both your home and your Oniric Area with plenty of furniture and trinkets to turn it into the Oniric Area of your dreams.
While the main Dreamland area and your Oniric Area are both stable, many parts of Dreamland are unstable, which means that they will change every day. What might have been a rocky mountain area one day might have turned into a placid lake the next day. Different areas will have different materials, so every time you go to sleep and visit Dreamland, make sure you explore a bit, in case some of the unstable areas that day have turned into a biome with materials you require for crafting certain furniture.
Most of Dreamland's citizens live in a small city in the center of the kingdom, near Morpheus' palace. You can visit the town center full of shops whenever you want to buy something or simply feel like chatting with npcs or other players.
If you increase your friendship level with some npcs high enough, you can invite them to live in your Oniric Area. However, not all Dreamland npcs live in the city: sometimes, while exploring an unstable area, you might encounter npcs living there. Some might have quests for you, or sell you rare items... and some might be interested in moving to the city, or even your own Oniric Area.
Dreamland is a cozy dreamy place, but it's not the real world, so your character will eventually have to wake up and return to their daily life. At least, until the next time they go to sleep.

today i am thinking about the entire mayor of hypixel skyblock incident with technoblade because i still like to imagine, since it happened during one of the big dsmp story gaps, that he was like "oh i'm going to head off for a bit phil don't worry about it" and phil's like "bye mate" and ranboo is like "i wonder what he's doing. probably intense training or something. he's so cool."
meanwhile techno is yelling at an entirely unruly crowd about anarchy and being made mayor while beating up like, it was a weird giant slime if i remember right? and he has a whole "bond of rivals" moment with squidkid, like, they have this whole "there's no one i could trust to have my back more... than you... my most favored enemy" thing going on in that video it's SO funny.
all of this with the world's most absurd numbers outputs because hypixel skyblock is an endgame mmo. just COMICAL levels of firepower. like, everyone is an end-of-series shonen character. this place is like the naruto world was after it had jumped the shark a bit and there was a moon goddess attacking. about like that.
and then he's like. my work here is done. thanks for electing me mayor. i don't see this is contradictory to my anarchy at all btw it's like, a symbolic thing, on account of me beating up the old dictator mayor. and just dips again, presumably to be forever seen as a weird potato-themed legend around those parts.
i like to imagine he gets home and phil is like "hi mate" and techno's like "sorry i had things to handle at home" and ranboo is imagining like, WILD battles and what technoblade's home must even be like. and whatever he's imagining doesn't really compare to "technoblade's home is an end-game mmo no wonder he constantly assumes he's weak here he can only do earlygame levels of damage, forever".
and technoblade, being technoblade, says nothing about being mayor of hypixel now, until like, after the finale or something when squidkid just sort of swings by to ask how they're all doing after that nuke thing, huh. and everyone loses their shit.
and this is one of my favorite stupid technoblade headcanons thank you for coming to my ted talk.
