Beat Unicorn Overlord

So I just finished Unicorn Overlord on PS4 last night and then got the Platinum trophy a couple hours later.

I had a real craving for a classic fantasy setting, that's why I bought it day one. (also it was an impulse buy when I was sad) It was good.

Vanillaware once again knocks it out of the park with gorgeous 2D art.

Story was not that original, but it was Genuine. The evil Empire really sucked. Liberating and restoring towns felt rewarding. Felt good to play as a righteous and noble prince who was a young man doing his best.

Characters don't get fleshed out much after they are introduced. If you don't pursue the Rapport conversations you won't get to know them. Generic units are available for hire; no personalities at all.

Combat is squad based strategy. It's simple to deal with because the action pauses whenever you are in a menu or selecting a character.

Each squad of 2-5 (very important to expand them and unlock more) is represented by one Selected leader. Cavalry leader is fast on roads bu slow in forest, infantry is average, fliers avoid traps and ground effects but are weak to arrows, etc.

I keep thinking of things to add, but I'm not being paid to write this.

I beat Unicorn Overlord. I liked it. Consider buying it and playing it so that Vanillaware can make future games.

There's a lady that's like 7 feet tall and she has a giant sword and uses a gate door as a shield. If you are a lesbian go buy the game. Her name is Amalia.

Previously in the Blackhawks' last game: On Tuesday night, the Blackhawks lost to the New Jersey Devils in a 3-0 shutout. Arvid Soderblom was the losing goaltender; he made 26 saves out of 29 shots on goal during the game. Blackhawks vs. Winnipeg Jets Tonight will be the third meeting between the Blackhawks and the Winnipeg Jets. The last time both teams faced each other back on November 27, 2022, the Jets defeated the Blackhawks 7-2. Last night, the Winnipeg Jets defeated the St. Louis Blues 5-2 with goals scored by Pierre-Luc Dubois (who had 2 and an assist), Kyle Connor, Blake Wheeler (who also had an assist) and Cole Perfetti. Mark Scheifele (who had 2), Logan Stanley, Michael Eyssimont, Neal Pionk (who had 2), Josh Morrissey and Dylan DeMelo each got assists in the game. If someone were to ask me, how to bring 2D sprites into the modern age of video games, I'd reply by showing them Square's "2D HD" series.

I find this mix of 2D sprites and 3D objects with pixel textures to be absolutely stunning, especially so with the particles and lighting effects on top.

The first Octopath Traveler is one of my favorite games on the Nintendo Switch, and while I didn't except a proper sequel ("Champions of the Continent" is a stupid gacha mobile game, after all) I'm more than happy that the release is now just around the corner.

Judging by the demo, Octopath Traveler II is going to be "more of the same", but with new characters, new stories and a new world to explore. The mechanics as well as its look-and-feel, and even the overall tone remain pretty much the same. And in the case of Octopath Traveler, I think that's exactly what the sequel should be. People who play these games play them because they are like the classical JRPGs of the SNES era. Because they want the turn-based combat, not fancy action-adventure gimmicks.

I hope that the eight new stories will be just about as good as the ones from the original, but from what I've seen of the first two chapters of Osvald and Castti so far, I'm already curious to find out more.

Now, I only need to decide on a main character for my party.

Octopath Traveler will be released on 24th of Feburary on Nintendo Switch.

The Kraken take on the Ducks, looking to secure what SHOULD be a relatively easy 2 points and move closer to securing their first playoff berth. Anaheim has lost their last 5 games, and are firmly in the race for Connor Bedard. Adding to the Ducks woes, resident magician Trevor Zegras suffered a lower-body injury last game, and while he is traveling with the team, his status for Thursday is up in the air. For the Kraken, it’s key to avoid a potential trap game and take care of business early. The Ducks are AWFUL at the penalty kill, and this would be a good night for the Kraken to fix some Power Play woes they have had as of late. Wether it be Martin Jones or Philip Grubauer in net for the team, both goalies could use a solid game to regain some mojo as we go down the stretch. Even with Zegras, Anaheim is 31st in the NHL in Goals For. The Ducks are dead last in the league at 32nd in terms of goals against, so be optimistic for a Kraken offensive outburst. It’s Jordan Eberle bobblehead night, celebrating the teams first ever Hat Trick last season. This would be an ideal game for another! Keep your eyes on the most likely suspect Jared McCann, but also Daniel Sprong. He’s show a lot of confidence in shooting the puck as of late.
