#MatrixResurrection (2021) on #Netflix, a sequel to #MatrixRevolutions (2003), follows Neo (#KeanuReeves) who lives a seemingly ordinary life as a video game developer having trouble with distinguishing fantasy from reality.

Filmed during the #COVID19 #pandemic (2020) and released December 2021, the hybrid release on #HBO encouraged some audiences to watch the film in their own homes rather than at the theaters, thereby hurting the film commercially.

The matrix series was one of my favorite series of movies back when it came out. I decided to draw my character Rainbwice as one of the freedom fighters and jokingly had the twins as her attack dogs. I was kind of like the idea of the matrix because it made the world make sense. Pour les besoins d’une vidéo débat qui devrait sortir sur ma chaîne la semaine prochaine, j’ai regardé l’intégralité de la franchise MATRIX. Mis à part le premier film sorti en 1999, on peut dire que la saga orchestrée par les sœurs Wachowski a pas mal divisé. Pour beaucoup de fans le premier film suffit amplement. En effet on ne peut qu’être admiratif devant un tel spectacle qui mélange autant de genres et de thématiques différents tout en restant cohérent. Un exploit rare que seul des œuvres comme Star Wars de George Lucas ou Jack Burton de John Carpenter peuvent se targuer d’y être parvenues. Bien sûr le dernier volet dirigé par Lana seule fait office de vilain petit canard tant il se démarque des précédents long-métrages. En effet on peut constater que la prise de risque du quatrième volet n’a absolument pas enthousiasmé le grand public qui préfère les blockbusters balisés des studios Disney . Le bide retentissant du dernier sonne le glas des éventuelles grosses productions qui souhaitaient privilégier la création artistique sans forcément caresser le public dans le sens du poil. L’ensemble de cette saga est loin d’être parfaite mais elle ose au moins être novatrice visuellement et proposée des thématiques rarement mise en avant dans ce genre de production. 📽 MATRIX: REVOLUTIONS 📽️ TobiView 😎 MATRIX: REVOLUTIONS wurde “back-to-back“ zusammen mit “Matrix: Reloaded“ quasi in einem Rutsch gedreht. Der enorme Qualitätsverlust im Vergleich zum meisterhaften Erstling zeichnete sich in “Matrix: Reloaded“ bereits ab und die Talfahrt geht mit Teil 3 leider weiter. 💥 Wie auch schon im Vorgänger sehen wir hier in den bekannten Rollen wieder Keanu Reeves, Laurence Fishburne, Carrie-Anne Moss, Hugo Weaving, Monica Bellucci, Jada Pinkett Smith u. a. ▪️ MATRIX: REVOLUTIONS ist ganz klar der schwächste Teil der Matrix Filmreihe, die nach diversen Ablegern (u. a. Animatrix und div. Videospielen) in Kürze, also Ende 2021, mit “Matrix: Resurrections“ einen offiziellen vierten Teil erhält und somit wird aus der ursprünglichen Trilogie eine Tetralogie. ▪️ In Teil 3 ist die Matrix selbst in den Hintergrund geraten, was aber nach den Ereignissen in Teil 2 wenig überrascht und logisch erscheint. Trotz aller Schwächen muss man Teil 3 aber absolut zugutehalten, dass alles, was in den vorherigen Teilen aufgebaut und erzählt wurde, stimmig und konsequent zu einem Ende geführt wird. Dennoch verkommt die Erzählung zum Ende hin zu einem Actionspektakel, welches den Geist des Erstlings nur noch wenig einfängt. ▪️ Die Inszenierung ist zumindest auf der Actionebene sehr gut und die visuelle Umsetzung macht einiges her, dient aber letztendlich nur als Schleier, um die erzählerischen Schwächen zu kaschieren. Auch wenn mich “Reloaded“ und besonders MATRIX: REVOLUTIONS sehr viel weniger überzeugen konnten, als “Matrix“, so sehe ich die gesamte Trilogie immer noch als unterhaltsame Filmreihe. Overview

Released in 2003, Animatrix is a nine story science fiction anthology that expands upon the setting of the Matrix films and games.  These stories take place before, during, and possibly even after the events of all the movies.  The creators of the Matrix films and games, Wachowski siblings, were directly involved with the anthology.  The Wascowskis also contracted animation studios that were behind such seminal films such as Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust, Aeon Flux, and Final Fantasy: Spirits Within. Each story is authored and animated by a different animation studio giving each story its own very distinct style; sometimes a style wholly apart from the styling present in the Matrix films.  These styles were vehicles for stories and narrative directions that explore the Matrix setting in new ways. General designs may remain similar but it seems each story was given a very wide margin in how to interpret the Matrix universe. Stories range from samurai in feudal Japan, a noir detective story, and whispered about places people aren’t supposed to know about in a forgotten part of a town… Animatrix sits at 7.4 out of 10 on IMDB, 78% out of 100% on Rotten Tomatoes, and 76% on trakt.tv… a movie site that none of you have heard of that’s very similar to both IMDB and Tomatoes but with a wider selection of films. Is the Animatrix a solid entry that expands the lore and world of the Matrix setting or is it a collection of stories that fail to capture the spirit of the source material?
