The air of the SVU victim interview room was completely still.
It wasn’t uncomfortable per se, but it was definitely quiet and not much conversation to fill the air. After all your years at SVU, talking to victims and hearing their stories still stung just as much as your very first day on the squad.
Of course, as time went on and you had more experience under your belt, you were more confident and comfortable talking to victims. You knew that in some cases, you were the only person in their corner. You were the only person who understood what they were feeling and what they were going through. Work experience helped, but it didn’t put even a dent in the way it still made your stomach turn to hear such traumatic events day in and day out.
And certainly, adults were one thing…kids were entirely another.
Too often, SVU was handed cases of kids being assaulted and abused…traumatized and scarred for life. With the adults, you always managed to move on, but kids? Kids’ cases stuck with you forever. Hearing small, meek children tell you that they had been touched or beaten…almost always by someone they knew and trusted. It was impossible to get used to hearing and seeing that every day…it was inconceivable to believe that anyone could lay their hands on a child.
Today was no exception.
He hadn’t hardly said a word since he sat down. He was practically trembling with anxiety as he did everything he could to avoid looking at you and your detective partner sitting directly across from him. If he did sneak a glance, his eyes tended to go to Detective Dodds, who only returned a quick soft smile each time he locked eyes with the 5-year-old.
His eyes were trained on the numerous pieces of paper strewn in front of him, a variety of different colored crayons scattered there as well. He was doodling away with the different crayons, silently dreaming up and sketching multiple pictures as a way of entertaining himself…and distracting himself from the two of you attempting to speak with him.
You and Dodds had been trying to get through to him for nearly half an hour. Each question you asked only earned a meek response and an uncomfortable body movement.
He was scared to death no doubt. Confused as to why two police officers were asking him so many questions that he didn’t want to answer…and even more confused about the situation that landed him here in the first place.
“That’s a really nice picture,” Your voice — soft and full of warmth — spoke to the young boy sitting across from you. “Do you like to draw?”
He said nothing. His eyes — full of fear and yet still so full of innocence — only flickered to you for a moment as a physical show that he had indeed heard your question. His left eye was swollen and a grisly shade of black and blue…evidence of what he had endured that landed him at SVU. His head barely nodded up and down as he set the crayon in use down, his cheeks tinting pink under your gaze.
Mike studied the picture that the child was currently working on. It was no Picasso masterpiece by any means…but even Mike could put together what it was supposed to be.
“Are these your favorite foods?” Mike asked, noting that he could spot a variety of foods that were universally kid friendly.
The child gave another small nod. Eyes now focused on his hands fiddling in his lap. This boy had been through hell and back, so it was no surprise he wasn’t interested in chatting about what foods he liked with two adult strangers. If that boy knew anything for sure, it was that the adults that were supposed to love you could hurt you beyond comprehension…so trusting an adult he didn’t know was not an option unless they gave him a reason to.
It was odd though. The boy had been much more talkative when Sonny picked him up and brought him into the precinct. He hadn’t been a chatterbox by any means, but according to Sonny — the kid wasn’t so clammed up like he was now. Something was making him uneasy.
“Pizza, ice cream, sandwiches…all really good stuff. I like all of that too,” Mike said, trying to establish some kind of common ground with the kid. Mike pointed to one particular image on his picture, a rectangular shape with a symbol on it that he identified to be a certain type of fruit. “Is this a juice box?”
The boy nodded once more, shrinking down into his seat as Mike continued.
“If you want, we can get you a juice box. We have some around here.”
For the briefest moment, the boy perked up. His eyes glimmered just long enough for you and Mike to catch it and know that you were making some progress.
He cowered and shrank into himself again when he locked eyes with you, and that’s when it clicked for Mike.
“Detective,” Mike turned to you, a small, reassuring smile on his face. “Would you get my friend here an apple juice?”
Mike had a look on his face, a look that let you know he had something in mind. You and Mike — a dynamic duo as work partners — understood one another. Your thoughts often flowed together smoothly and with ease. In many ways, your bond went well outside of work. The two of you didn’t just blend together as partners…but as people. If Mike needed you to leave, then you trusted him.
“Sure thing,” You retreated from your chair. “I’ll be right back.”
Mike kept his eyes on the kid, who allowed his own eyes to follow you as you exited the room and disappeared behind the wall. He released a long breath once you were gone, unbeknownst to him that you would be watching from the other side once his promised juice box was retrieved. Mike let the silence simmer for a few minutes, not wanting to immediately start asking more questions.
It wasn’t until the boy snuck another glance at Mike that he decided to try and press further.
“So…let me ask you something. Does Detective [L/N] make you nervous?”
The boy’s wide brown eyes locked with Mike’s for only another moment as he nodded, fiddling with his small hands.
“Can you tell me why she makes you nervous? You didn’t seem to like her being here," Mike asked. "I'm your friend. You can tell me."
The boy was clearly wrestling with himself. Not wanting to give in to Mike’s question…but deep down knowing that he wasn’t here to do anything other than help him. The boy then spoke for the first time in half an hour. The tiniest bit of comfort filled his senses as he finally began to answer Mike’s questions.
“She’s pretty…” He gave the tiniest, shyest grin with a small voice.
Mike couldn’t help himself. His laugh was light and surprised, but genuine. This was the first time he had said anything, and he chose to say that.
You yourself gave a small laugh, cradling the beloved apple juice in your hand to be delivered once Mike made some decent headway in this conversation.
“He’s getting through to him.” Olivia, who was standing to your immediate right, said aloud. “Even if it’s at your expense.”
You shook your head and shrugged, completely unbothered.
“I don’t mind,” You answered. “Mike knows what he’s doing.”
Mike could tell the kid was warming up. He didn’t want to lose momentum now while he was on a roll.
“Is that why you didn’t want to talk with her in the room?”
The boy nodded and surprised Mike by posing a question of his own.
“Do you think she’s pretty too?”
Suddenly, the questioning at your expense was getting a bit personal. Mike shifted in his seat a bit -- he wasn't going to lie to this boy, but he also knew you were listening. Right now, this kid was his priority.
“Yeah, bud. I do.”
The boy brightened up, clearly interested in this ordeal. Mike didn't mind. If it distracted him from what he had been through, then he was more than willing to dish out his personal business.
“Are you boyfriend-girlfriend?” The boy straightened up, now having no trouble keeping eye contact with Mike.
“No, we’re not boyfriend-girlfriend.” Mike chuckled again at the phrasing of the youngster's question.
“Why not?” He tilted his head slightly with curiosity.
Mike's eyes widened at that question, a sly smile tugging at the corners of his lips. He wasn't expecting that question, and it caught him off guard. Mike was too far down the road of this conversation to turn back now. If he lost this kid's trust, they might never really know what was happening to him. He turned his attention back to the child, a soft sigh escaping his lips.
"It's a bit more complicated than that," Mike admitted, trying to maintain his composure. "We're partners...but not the kind that dates."
It seemed that suddenly the boy was very invested in your and Mike’s relationship because he continued to press on like he needed to know for his own personal reasons.
“But if you think she’s pretty, why don’t you date?” He asked. “You like her don’t you?”
Mike chuckled again, amused by the boy's curiosity and keen eye for detail. He leaned back in his chair, contemplating his answer for a moment before speaking.
"Well...you're right. I do like her," he admitted, a smile on his face. "But it's not always that simple. We work together every day...and sometimes," Mike said, hesitating for a moment, "Work can get in the way of things."
“Oh…” The boy said quietly, thinking for only a moment before continuing. “So you don’t like her more than a friend?”
Mike pondered on the question. It really was a difficult one to answer. Because the feelings he had for you weren't just that of friendship. They were stronger, deeper, but he didn't know how to articulate it to a 5-year-old child. He leaned closer to the boy, his voice serious but still friendly.
"I do like her more than just a friend. A lot more," He confessed, his smile still on his face. "But it's a bit tricky when we work together. Does that make sense?"
The boy picked up on Mike’s quiet tone, and he matched his whisper when he spoke next.
“Yeah but…why don’t you tell her you like her?”
Mike was caught off guard again by the boy's insightful question. He shifted in his chair, feeling a pang of guilt and regret in his chest. The simple truth was, he had thought about expressing his feelings to you more times than he could count. But there was always a reason not to.
He sighed, his voice low and conflicted.
"It's not that easy. If I tell her how I feel...it could mess up our friendship."
Mike realized he was probably oversharing with him. In no way was his feelings for you the child's responsibility...but the boy didn't seem burdened in the slightest -- this was the most interested he had been in talking all day. A slight smile appeared on the boy’s face as he leaned over the table, whispering even quieter to Mike.
“I think she likes you too.” He grinned.
Mike kept his expression unchanged, but his heartbeat was beginning to quicken in his chest. He knew there was no turning back from this now. He leaned in toward the boy, mirroring his whispering tone.
"What makes you think that?" He asked in a hushed voice.
The boy shrugged, but his eyes were completely lit up at this conversation.
“I don’t know…” He giggled. “I can just tell.”
Mike knew this conversation was getting way off track. The purpose of this interview was to get this boy to tell him about what he had endured at his daycare center, and how he ended up bruised and beaten — but at this point, Mike figured it was valuable to finish it out.
“You’re a smart kid,” He said. “You can tell me. How can you tell?"
Mike was impressed at how observant and perceptive this kid was. At such a young age, he had an astute sense of things that many adults didn’t even pick up on in their own relationships. The boy scrunched his eyebrows, thinking hard. Mike chuckled at the sight and waited patiently for his answer.
"Well," he began, his voice barely above a whisper. "She smiles at you a lot. And she listens when you talk. Like...she really listens."
Mike was speechless. He could tell this kid was observant, but this was beyond impressive. It seemed that this five-year-old was beyond smarter than he was.
“But I won’t tell her if you don’t want her to know you like her,” The boy said. “I promise."
Mike knew that it wasn't a secret anymore, given that you were probably watching from the other side and had heard this entire conversation. Still, Mike admired the kid's loyalty. He leaned forward, a conspiratorial smile on his face.
“Thanks, kid. Let’s keep it just between us for now, okay?”
Mike knew you had to have been watching and listening this entire time. His stomach was in knots knowing that you had just heard him spill his liking for you to a child. He hoped and hoped that this kid was right, and that your friendship and partnership wasn’t over.
As if on cue, the door to the room opened — revealing you with two small boxes of the promised apple juice. The boy shrank into his seat slightly when you entered, but shared a knowing glance with Mike.
Mike's eyes darted from the boy back to you, trying to keep a casual demeanor despite the wave of nerves that washed over him. He could sense the boy's slightly timid behavior as you entered the room, and the knowing glance the boy shared with him was both reassuring and foreboding. He tried his best to act natural, standing up to take the juice box from you and set it on the table in front of the boy.
"Perfect timing, thanks." Mike said, his voice betraying a hint of tension underneath.
She knew Mike was going to try and continue the conversation with the boy now — and get the full story of the abuse he had endured. She wouldn’t be sticking around - just long enough to give him his juice.
“I brought you a second one…just in case you were extra thirsty.” she smiled at the boy, her heart pounding at the new knowledge of Mike liking her so much more than she ever realized. “If you want anything else, let Mike know, okay?”
The boy took one of the juice boxes, unwrapped the straw and punched it into the hole.
“Okay,” He gave her a shy smile. “Thanks.”
The thought of you potentially knowing Mike's feelings for you — the fact that he may have given away his secret to you via a 5-year-old — was almost overwhelming. But he pushed it aside, needing to focus on the task at hand.
As you excused yourself to leave the room, he shot you a quick nod, a silent thank you for the juice and giving him and the kid some privacy.
“Okay, buddy…” Mike said calmly, trying to shift gears. “Can you tell me about your daycare teacher?”
For the next hour or so, Mike and the boy talked back and forth. The boy told Mike all the details of how his daycare teacher abused him and other kids in his class — and gave SVU enough reason to question and potentially arrest her.
Through the boy's detailed and sometimes-heartbreaking account of the abuse he and others had suffered, Mike listened intently, his heart breaking a bit more with every new piece of information. He jotted down notes as the boy spoke, making sure to capture as much information as possible for the investigation. The more Mike learned about the daycare teacher's treatment of the children, the more determined he was to bring her to justice.
When the boy was out of things to say and SVU had enough information, Mike stood from the table and held his hand out to the boy.
“You’ve been very brave and helpful to us,” He said, smiling once more when the boy walked around the table and took his hand. “Thank you for helping us.”
The boy nodded, walking out of the room hand-in-hand with Mike — entering Olivia’s office where you, Olivia, and Carisi were waiting. Olivia wore an expression of curiosity, Carisi looked as if he was about to explode to go tell the entire squad room what just happened, and you were looking at Mike...purely in awe as he stood in front of you.
Mike squatted to meet the boy’s height, gesturing toward Carisi with a grin.
“I need to get back to work now. Detective Carisi is going to take you now, okay?”
The boy nodded again, leaning in to whisper one more thing to Mike before going with Carisi.
“I won’t forget our secret.” He said, and Mike patted his shoulder affectionately.
Carisi took the boy with him, leaving Mike alone with her and Olivia. As Carisi led the boy out of the office -- no doubt going to tell Fin and Rollins about this -- Mike stood up and stood stoically, now facing you and Olivia, his nerves mounting. He avoided your gaze, focusing instead on straightening out the notes he had taken during the interview. The silence in the room was deafening, and Mike's heart was hammering in his chest.
"I'm going to call Barba," Olivia said, which was Olivia's way of saying she was leaving the room. “I'll send Fin and Rollins down to that daycare center."
Mike nodded in acknowledgement as Olivia relayed the news about the teacher, his heart racing even faster at the impending prospect of being alone with you. He swallowed hard, bracing himself for the conversation that was to come. Olivia swiftly left the room, closing the door behind her.
Mike stood frozen for a moment, mustering up the courage to finally look over at you. He took a deep breath, his gaze meeting yours. It wasn't like Mike to be so nervous. Mike was always confident...super focused on work. But right now, he was terrified that your partnership and friendship was ruined.
He could tell you weren’t angry with him or anything of that nature. If anything you looked…relieved.
“So…” You couldn’t help but flash a small grin, his chest fluttering at the sight. “You think I’m pretty?”
Mike let out a nervous laugh, a mix of relief and anxiety coursing through him. Seeing your small grin made his heart skip a beat. He couldn't deny it now - he was about to see the outcome of his confession.
"Guilty as charged," he admitted sheepishly, rubbing the back of his neck. "That kid wasn't wrong."
He paused for a moment, the weight of his feelings for you heavy in his chest.
"I just...hope I haven't completely messed things up."
“Come on, Mike…” You took a step closer. “You know it would take way more than that to mess things up between us.”
Relief washed over him as you took a step closer. The distance between you guys was shrinking, and he could feel the tension in the room growing. He studied your face, searching your eyes for any hint of rejection.
"I was worried that you'd think this completely changed everything." He said, his voice quiet but firm.
"Well…it certainly does change things…in a good way." You smiled.
Mike's head was spinning. This was certainly not how he expected his day to go...and for the first time ever, he was distracted from the current case at hand.
He took a cautious step forward, closing the distance between you guys even further. His eyes searched yours, looking for any sign of doubt. He saw nothing but genuine hope.
"The kid was right after all," You said. "But this is a conversation we can have when we get this case figured out. We need to get him taken care of."
He gave a slow nod, his gaze locked on yours. As much as he wanted to blurt out everything he was feeling, he knew you were right — there was work to be done first.
"You're right," he said, a hint of a smile tugging at the corner of his mouth. "We need to focus on the case. But when this is all over…"
"When this is all over..." You finished his sentence for him. "We will see where we go from here."
The promise of "what's to come" overwhelmed him like no other. It had been so long since he had something other than work to focus on. He took another step forward, the urge to be closer to you nearly overwhelming him. But he stopped himself, knowing that until the case was closed, he couldn't act on any impulses.
"Right," He agreed. "How about dinner at my place?"
Your smile grew, and a slight heat rushed your cheeks.
"It's a date."
The matter was put to rest for now. They had work to do and a case to solve. But neither of you could deny that it sat in the back of your minds for the rest of the day. The day had taken an unexpected turn after all, and a most welcome one at that.
Mike was patient, and he knew with a little more time you would be able to see where this would lead.
Although, you both already had a pretty good idea of what that would be.

all that you ever wanted from me was sweet nothing
aka the four times you save mike dodds + the one time he saves you
mike dodds x female!reader
word count: 9.3k
a/n: me? keeping mike dodds alive and well in every universe? absolutely. a good old fashioned 4+1 for you folks! this was another labor of love that has been years in the making because I could never string enough good things together - until I did! it's not my best, but it's one of my favorites, and i love writing for this guy! it's a niche character, but one near and dear to my heart. (I refuse to give up my Taylor swift lyric titles so fight me)
****
The first time you saved Mike Dodds, it was from the awful coffee in the squad room.
It was his first week with SVU, and, let’s just say, everyone is adjusting. He stepped over you while getting the victim’s disclosure, he pursued a lead not pertaining to the disclosure without telling Liv, and to top it all off, Rollins’ sister was behind the whole situation.
So, it’s been a tense week for everyone.
After Kim was remanded to Rikers, and Amanda was released from the hospital, everyone could let out a sigh of relief.
You were wrapping up some paperwork in the squad room after getting back from the courthouse, Liv talking with the chief in her office. You could only assume the accolades he was giving his son, while Liv just had to sit there and bite her tongue. You don’t envy the position she’s in right now.
To keep your eyes open a little longer, you made your way to the breakroom to grab a soda. Much to your surprise, you found the sarge at the coffee machine, ready to pour a heaping cup of old coffee.
“I wouldn’t drink that if I were you,” You warned him as you fed a dollar to the vending machine, pressing for a coke to come out. “I guarantee it’s been sitting there since this morning, maybe even last night.”
He nodded, placing the styrofoam cup back on the table. “Thanks for warning me. I’m pretty sure everyone else would’ve let me suffer the consequences.”
“Rollins and Fin would’ve watched the whole thing, but Carisi would’ve ran in to save you. We’re not too fond of perpetuating the newbie pranks, especially on a sergeant.”
You offered him the coke once it came out of the machine, and he took it, giving you a nod of gratitude. He didn’t open it right away, taking a few seconds to fiddle with the tab.
He looked up at you, looking quite defeated for the confident man that walked in here three days ago. “I’m not trying to step on any toes here, detective.”
“Dodds,” You started, but he cut you off.
Again.
“I’m the new guy, the new second in command here, and I understand that it’s going to take some time for you guys to warm up to me,”
“Dodds.” You held your arm out in front of you, hoping he would stop talking. “First things first, stop interrupting me.”
He had a sheepish grin, and hung his head.
“SVU isn’t like the rest of the department. It’s not as simple as getting the statement, arresting the perp, and going to trial. We have to connect with the victim, make sure they feel safe and supported enough to tell their story. And most importantly, we listen to Liv. She gives a masterclass everyday in being an SVU cop.” You paused for a second, taking another look at him. Of course he looked defeated, the welcome into special victims is never an easy one. “Listen, we’ve all been in your shoes. There’s a learning curve, and it takes a minute to get there, but you will. You’ve got good instincts, you’ve got the rank to prove it. You’ve just got to think in another way now.”
You saw the chief exit Liv’s office, and heard the dejected sigh leave Dodds’ mouth.
“I’m not worried about the learning curve. I know I have a lot to learn. What I’m worried about is not being taken seriously.” You looked over at him, and saw that he was locked on his father’s figure, following him out of the precinct. “I know everyone’s worried that I’m the boss’s son, thinking they have to watch themselves around me. But I’m not his puppet, and I’m not here to report back to him. What happens at SVU, stays at SVU.”
“I appreciate that.” He gave you a pointed look, not sure whether or not to believe you, but you only smiled. “Listen, we’re all straight shooters here. I’m not worried about who your father is or how you got this position. Everyone deserves a fair chance, and after these last few days with you, I think you’ll be just fine here.”
Honestly, you were never worried about his placement here. Sure, the rest of the squad was a little suspicious, and maybe gave him a hard time, but he’ll learn his place. And hopefully, they’ll see this guy, honest and vulnerable, instead of the shadow of his father the next time they look at him.
“Thank you. I know you could’ve chewed my head off after that disclosure, so I appreciate your patience.”
You laughed while moving back to the vending machine, getting a coke for yourself this time.
“It was your one free pass.”
“Technically two, since you saved me from the burnt coffee.” He added, walking back to the bullpen.
“Yeah, next time I’ll let you drink it.”
****
The second time you saved Mike Dodds was after the Lily Evans case.
It was never easy losing a kid, no matter how many years you have on the job. After three months with the unit, he felt like he hit his stride.
All until today.
It was late when Dodds and Liv came back from the Evans house, looking particularly jaded after informing the grieving parents they closed the case.
It was business as usual for the next thirty minutes, paperwork was finished, a celebratory job well done for solving something in a timely manner. And just like that, we move onto the next one.
Once Liv emerged from her office, the rest of the squad started to pack up.
“You going to see Amanda?” Fin asked.
“Yeah, I thought I’d stop by.”
“You know what, she’s been living off takeout. How about we all go up there, and I’ll cook us a real meal.” Carisi interrupted the Lieutenant, Fin in agreement to eat some real Italian food.
The smile on your face was automatic, loving the small moments in your day where there was a little room for happiness.
“Hey Sergeant, you wanna join us?” You all looked to Dodds, slouched in his chair, the weight of the world resting on his shoulders.
You’ve all been there before.
“Uh, rain check. Paperwork.” He sat up straighter in his chair, pulling a random file from his desk.
You exchanged a look with Carisi before setting your things back on your desk.
“I’ll meet you guys up there. And don’t let Fin eat all the garlic bread,” you teased, trying to keep the happy moment alive.
Once the rest of the squad left, you walked back over to Dodds desk. He continued to comb through the files on his desk, pretending to look busy.
“I know being a Sergeant is a big deal, but there’s no way you’ve accumulated this much paperwork since you’ve been here.”
“Well with all the joy rides you and Carisi go on, you’d be surprised how quickly those car change requests pile up.”
He said with a smile, and you resisted the urge to roll your eyes.
“As appealing as that pile of paperwork may be, it’s got nothing on a home cooked Carisi meal. So,” you paused, giving him the opportunity to speak first if he wanted.
He didn’t.
“Why are you beating yourself up over this case?”
“Lily Evans could still have been alive when we first got to her parents house. If I had taken this seriously, we could’ve got to her and maybe she’d be alive right now.”
“Sarge,”
“And I know I should have listened to Liv, she’s got this down to a science. But I just wanted to-“
“Dodds, what did I say about interrupting me?” You chided, and he held his hands out to you in surrender. “I know you don’t want to hear it, but she was gone the moment she got in the van. It’s not easy to accept that at first, but some of these cases, you have to believe it if you want to get through it.”
“I thought it was going to be an easy transition to SVU. Major Crimes was high stress, kidnappings, negotiations, terrorism, all while having the eyes of the media and the city on you.” He shook his head. “I thought I was doing okay. I was listening to the Lieutenant, I was really learning from her, from all of you really. I thought I was bringing something to the table. But Lily, she was just a kid.”
You placed your bag down on the floor, moving to sit in the chair next to his desk.
“My second case with SVU was the Johnny D take down. I transferred from Brooklyn Homicide, so I thought I’d seen it all. Until I walked into that basement, and found four teenagers and kids locked in that basement as sex slaves. I threw up as soon as we got out of the basement, just barely missed Rollins. I couldn’t sleep for the next week, and when I finally cracked, Liv was there to center me. She reminded me why we did this job, of all the people we help, despite the most gruesome cases we catch. It takes a special cop to work in SVU, and you don’t stick it out, you don’t feel this guilt if you’re not cut out for it.”
He looked at you for a few seconds, not saying anything as he took your words in.
“How do you get up and come back to work every day?” He asked and let out a long breath.
“I took Liv’s advice: go home, talk to someone you love, and don’t make this job your whole life. Easier said than done.” You said with a laugh and he joined in. “But you’ve got your dad, he’s been on the job your whole life. He knows what it’s like.”
“He’s not really the talking type. And I’ve never… failed at something before. He expects a lot out of me here, and I want to prove to him that I’m cut out for this.”
“You’re not failing here, Dodds. Trust me, you’d be hearing an earful from Rollins and Fin if you were. I’m actually really impressed with how you’ve adjusted. We’re not an easy squad to assimilate to.”
“You can call me Mike,” he started, a small smile on his face.
You felt your cheeks get warm, and you hoped to god they weren’t bright red.
“Okay, Mike. Then pack up your stuff, cause you’re going to eat the best Chinese food of your life tonight.”
“What about Carisi’s fantastic meal?” He joked as he closed whatever files were open and shrugged his coat on.
“He’ll understand. Now come on, we don’t want them to run out of egg rolls before we get there.”
“Alright, alright,” he joked, running to catch up to you. You waited in silence for the elevator, and you felt a shift in the dynamic between you two. A good shift, one that happens when you finally earn the trust of your partner.
Mike spoke your name as you stepped into the elevator, and you looked over at him.
“Thank you for listening. It means a lot, to know that you have my back, in the field and otherwise.”
You smiled, gently clapping his shoulder as you responded, “Anytime you need an ear, I’m there. You’ve got a squad of incredible listeners surrounding you now. All we ask is the same in return.”
“You’ve got it.” He added without hesitation.
Mike Dodds was going to be just fine here in SVU.
****
The next time you saved Mike Dodds wasn’t exactly your finest moment.
Mike accompanied you to Gary Munson’s house on what was supposed to be a quiet Sunday afternoon. But after a call from his wife Lisa, saying she was finally ready to leave, your Sergeant graciously offered to accompany you to the house.
No one wanted to be back in the presence of Gary Munson, the rogue corrections officer accused of assaulting dozens of female inmates. The case hadn’t even gone to trial yet and it was already causing a lot of tension in the department, not to mention the DA’s office.
“Dragging me out on a Sunday is pretty cruel, even for you Detective.” Mike commented as you walked up to the Munson house. “I smell egg rolls and fried rice in the near future.”
“Hey, I paid last time. It’s not my fault you have a bleeding heart almost as big as mine and agreed to come along.” You said with a grin as you knocked on the front door.
Dodds had been at SVU just shy of a year now, and since the Lily Evan’s case it sort of became tradition to celebrate the closing of a case with that same greasy Chinese food. Even as the cases took longer to close, the two of you could be found there at least twice a week. It became your place, somewhere to meet when it was two a.m. and a case was keeping one of you awake; on a Saturday afternoon when the two of you had nothing better to do with the time off work; and of course, as a reward for helping each other out whenever they asked.
You waited for a minute before knocking on the door again as Mike walked around to the side yard.
“She calls and says she’s ready to leave, and when we get here there’s no answer?”
“What was her exit plan?” Mike asked, joining you back on the steps.
Before you could answer, Lisa opened the front door.
“Hi,” she began, “sorry for keeping you guys waiting.”
“Is everything okay?” You asked, attempting to take one foot in the door when Gary stepped out into view.
“Everything’s fine here.” He answered for his wife, her body stiffening at his voice.
“Mr. Munson, we're here at your wife’s request.”
“I… overreacted when I called you guys. We’re handling things.”
“That’s good to hear. So, you don’t mind if we come in?” Mike asked, trying to get some control of the situation.
“Do I need to call my lawyer?”
“We’re not here to talk about the case.”
“Oh right, you’re here because Lisa wants to leave me. Forgive me, I’m just a big, dumb CO.”  Gary commented as you shared a look with Dodds.
He was already spiraling.
“Mr. Munson, we don”t want any trouble.”
“Great,” he replied, opening the door further for you to enter. “Neither do I.”
Lisa let out a deep breath as you entered the house behind her. You watched as Gary talked to their kids, trying to convince them everything was normal, but they were too smart for it.
“Why don’t I go upstairs with her and start to pack.” Lisa suggested as she moved towards the stairs, motioning you to follow.
“No.” He commanded back, causing you both to freeze. “She can stay down here with the kids. You go up.”
This was going to be the power struggle of all power struggles. You walked over to sit with the kids as Mike and Gary went into the kitchen. You exchanged another look with him, and he gave you a small nod. It was okay.
The kids slipped their headphones on as you tried to listen in on the conversation in the kitchen, but you couldn’t hear much. You took out your phone to text Liv, a gut feeling telling you this wasn’t going to end easy or as you planned.
You waited for a few more minutes as Lisa packed a bag for her and the kids before coming back down the stairs.
“Alright, Tommy, Annie, backpacks.” She handed her children their bags as they hugged their dad goodbye.
“Ok kids, let’s go,” you started, trying to shuffle them and Lisa out the door.
“Wait, I don’t get a goodbye hug from Mommy?” Gary asked, now cornering Lisa on the stairs. “Isn’t that the jacket I bought you for your birthday?”
“Okay, we’re going to go now,” you ushered the kids onto the stoop, still keeping one foot in the house as you saw Lisa throw her jacket on the floor.
In one motion, he grabbed Lisa off the stairs, pulled a gun from his waistband, and slammed the front door in your face, kicking you onto the step.
“Gary! Open the door!” You yelled out as you got to your feet, banging on the door. “Right now Gary! Open the door!”
After thirty more seconds of incessant knocking with no response, you turned to find the kids huddled together on the sidewalk.
“Ok guys, it’s okay. My sergeant is just going to talk to your parents for a couple more minutes. While we wait, can you go into your nice neighbors house until I come get you?” You noticed the older woman two houses down standing on the stoop, a young girl and a dog with her.
You walked the kids over quickly while calling this in over the radio. You checked your phone to see Liv had answered your earlier text, and that she was already on her way for backup. She should have just come along in the first place.
Instead of going back up the front steps, you ducked under the bay window to try and get a look inside the house. You could see Munson holding Lisa in a headlock, his gun pointed at Mike as he handed over his own guns.
“Shit,” you breathed out, knowing this was going to end with a gunshot from someone.
You backed away from the window and called Mike, hoping to god that you could try and talk Munson out of this before any patrols showed up.
“Detective, you’re on speaker.” Mike said when he answered, the sigh you let out when you heard his voice was a little too loud.
“Dodds, what’s going on in there? The kids are asking for their mom.”
“Tell them she’s not going anywhere.” Gary piped in, his voice beginning to shake.
“I’ve told Gary that we can talk this through, get him what he wants, what he needs.”
“That’s right, I’m here, listening to you, my Sergeant is listening. Do you want me to call a family member, or your union rep?”
“No, I’m done talking. I want you to get my kids somewhere safe, that is all I need. Now, hang up the phone.”
“Mr. Munson-“ the line went dead before you could finish.
“Dammit,” you ran your hands through your hair, trying to think of a way to slow this down. You ran to the back door, then to the storm door, both locked. He had planned this from the moment he came home. This is always how this was going to end.
Back at the front of the house, you saw Liv pulling up and you ran to meet her.
“What’s going on? I got the radio on the way over.”
“Munson’s holding Dodds and Lisa in the house, he’s armed.”
“You didn’t search him?” She asked, and you tried not to take the agitation in her tone personally.
“Lisa told us there were no weapons in the house, we confiscated his piece already. I was getting the kids in the car when all of this went down.”
“Okay. Is anyone hurt?”
“I spoke to Dodds five minutes ago, and they both seemed fine for now. But he doesn’t want to talk anymore.”
You heard the distant sirens, and you could only imagine the escalation Gary was making inside the house.
“Is there another way in?” Liv asked as the first of the patrol cars made their way down the street.
“Back door and storm door are both locked, I haven’t checked for anything else.”
“Okay, I’ll be right back.”
She ran over to the first patrol car, getting ready to set a perimeter around the street and then the house as the rest of ESU began to roll onto the street. Liv kicked it into gear, ordering everyone around and trying to come up with the best plan of action.
It wasn’t until Finn got out of his car that you ran into action to. You began to debrief the hostage negotiators on your last phone call, and to describe Gary’s demeanor through the entire duration of this visit. You stressed to them that he was no longer in the talking mood, but they were still going to try.
“ESU is going to try to plan a route in. You know the layout, what’s the best way in.”
“Fastest and clearest is through the back door. But, Lieutenant, give me two more minutes to find another way in. If I can get in there, one female cop is better than twelve SWAT guys taking him down.” You asked, trying to prove yourself in an attempt to earn her forgiveness quicker.
She thought about it for a moment before slowly nodding her head.
“You have a minute to sweep the perimeter again for a secondary entrance. Go.”
You wasted no time in running back through the driveway, past the back door and into the backyard. All the shades were drawn except for one cracked piece, giving you a clear shot to the living room. Munson had a tighter grip on Lisa, his gun still pointed at Mike.
You had to get in there.
The back windows were locked as well as the doors, but you weren’t going to give up. On the side of the house, you noticed the top window opened the slightest bit, and prepared to go in.
You pulled a lawn chair over to give yourself a boost, and took a deep breath in. The window opened quietly at first, and you could begin to hear Munson’s voice again. Slowly but surely you got the window open in silence, and you swung one leg in to the kitchen.
You froze for a second, stuck without a view of what was going on in the living room, praying no one could hear you. After a few seconds, you swung your other leg in, quickly getting to your feet and grabbing your gun.
“… maybe your lawyer will plea out, 9 out of 10 corrections officers cases don’t make it to trial.” Mike was still trying to talk him out of it, even with a gun to his face.
You peaked around the corner quickly, making sure no one had moved since you looked through the window.
“Munson, drop the gun!” You yelled out as you entered the room, catching him off guard enough for Mike to make a move.
Lisa slipped out of Gary’s grip and ran over to you as Mike struggled for Munson’s gun.
“Put it down, Munson!” You yelled out again, but before you could move closer, a shot went off and Mike went down.
Gary froze, putting his arms up as you ran into action. You kicked the gun away from him as SWAT barged in, all guns pointed to Munson.
“Take him.” You yelled out to them as you turned to Mike, finally able to give him your full attention. You knelt down next to him on the floor, watching as he applied pressure to his shoulder. “Hey, can I take a look?”
He nodded, breathing heavily through his nose. You pulled his hand away as blood continued to pour out, but it was a through and through, thank god.
“It’s a clean shot, Mike.” You said as you placed his hand back over the wound, covering your hand with his to apply more pressure. “Hey, stay with me. The medics are on their way in.”
“You shouldn’t have done that.” He got out with a grimace as Liv led the medics into the house.
“I wasn’t just going to leave you in here.”
You moved out of the medics way, your hands covered in Mike’s blood as they treated him.
“He’s right. What the hell were you thinking climbing in through the window without any view?” Liv asked, slightly less agitated than earlier.
“I was thinking I’m the one who left him in here.” Her eyes softened the slightest, the way they always do when she cares for someone. “And I think you would have done the same thing.”
“Careful,” she replied, a small smile crossing her face. “You don’t want to end up like me.”
“There are worse people to be.”
They finished wrapping Mike up, and you two followed him out to the ambulance.
“Detective,” one of the medics called out to you as they loaded him in. “He’s asking if you can ride along.”
You looked to Liv for approval who gave you a nod.
“Keep us updated.” She added as you hopped in the back of the bus, sending her a thumbs up before they shut the door.
Mike fell asleep almost as soon as he got in the ambulance, but the medic assured you he was stable. He had lost a good amount of blood, but given the position of the shot, they were confident he would be okay.
The surgery was quick, and the doctor said it was a routine procedure. He’s been sleeping and recovering in the ICU for a couple hours, and the rest of the squad would be on their way over once he was awake.
“Detective, he’s awake.” A nurse came out to find you, escorting you to Mike’s room.
He was sitting up straight, arm bandaged from shoulder to elbow, but he looked completely unfazed.
“I come out of a workout class looking worse than you do right now. How is that fair?” You said as you walked into his room.
“Well, I regularly go to the gym, so that helps.” You rolled your eyes, resisting the urge to smack him on his bad shoulder.
“Ok, hotshot, we get it.” You let out a breath, taking in his hospital state again. “How are you feeling?”
“Like I got shot. I know it was a through and through, but God, it hurt pretty bad.” He said with a laugh, only to grab at his shoulder, moving too fast for his new injury.
You thought about what he said earlier, how you shouldn’t have gone in the house on your own. Maybe he and Liv were right. If you hadn’t gone in, without telling anyone, without any backup, he may not have been shot. It could’ve ended peacefully, without any harm to anyone.
“What you said earlier, you were right. I don’t know what I was thinking going in by myself. I put you and Lisa in danger, I got you shot. If you didn’t get the jump on him he could have hurt you two even worse-“
“Stop.” Mike interrupted you, placing his hand on your forearm, gesturing for you to sit down on the side of the hospital bed. “I didn’t say that because I was mad at you. I don’t blame you for me getting shot. You shouldn’t have come in because it could have been you in this hospital bed, with a gunshot wound much worse than mine. And I wouldn’t be able to have that on my conscience, you getting yourself shot for me.”
You didn’t say anything for a few seconds, instead you just sat there, looking at the man that you most definitely would have taken a bullet for. And you’re pretty sure he would do the same for you; how terrifying to know someone cared for you like that.
“I’m really glad you’re okay. I don’t know what I would’ve done…” you trailed off, not wanting to think about what could have happened.
“You shouldn’t have come in, but if you hadn’t, I don’t know if I would be sitting here, relatively unscathed.” he reached over, grabbing your hand in his. “Thank you for that.”
You squeezed his hand in recognition as your eyes began to water, not knowing what to say next.
“Are you sure you want to stay with us in SVU? You get shot twice in one year, that would have most people running away.”
“And let you drink the squad room out of coke on your own? Not a chance.” He replied.
“Good. Joint Terrorism would be too boring for you anyway.” You said with a smile.
“In all seriousness, I feel like I can make the biggest difference here. There’s time to move up the ranks later. Right now, I want to be at SVU, with you by my side.” He admitted, as his hand held onto yours tight.
There was a shift in the air, a conversation the two of you had been avoiding for a few months. It wasn’t the time now, and it may not be for a while, but now it’s out there. And neither of you are going anywhere.
A knock on the door pulled you out of your bubble, dropping Mike’s hand as the rest of the squad came into the room. They greeted Mike, lightly ribbing him about having nine lives.
A hand fell on your shoulder, and you looked up to find Liv behind you. She had a knowing smile on her face, but you knew she’d never ask. At least, not yet.
Instead, you focused on your family in the room, and how grateful you were for everyone to be here, safe and sound.
****
The fourth time you saved Mike Dodds happened off duty.
You agreed to be his date to an NYPD fundraising gala that his father was dragging him too. Mike warned you that they were a long night of politics and fake smiles, but you’d be lying if you said you weren’t a little curious to see how the brass lived.
Unfortunately, Mike hit the nail on the head with the political atmosphere. You’d been at the gala barely an hour and you’d already spoken to two people running for district attorney. If you weren’t listening to someone’s campaign pitch, then you were hearing from the brass how much trouble the SVU squad caused the department, despite the “good work” we all do.
“I hate to say I told you so, but, I told you so.” Mike said while handing you a glass of wine.
“How many of these has your dad dragged you to?” You asked as he took a sip of his beer.
“Too many. And now that I’ve ruined his dreams by staying at SVU, he’s going to continue to drag me to them as punishment.”
“Well, if the drinks and the food continue to be free, I’ll come to as many of these as you need me too.” You offered.
“First I’m paying for Chinese food, now I’m paying for galas, you’re an expensive date.”  Mike joked as you shoved his completely healed shoulder. He hasn’t let you pay for dinners since he got shot.
“That’s the price you pay for greatness.” You said with a smile, making him laugh. “Is he really still pissed at you for not going to JTTF?”
“The Five-Year Plan has been officially ruined, I’ve been told. I must have really pissed him off if he’s calling Matt and begging him to come home.”
“Your brother?” You asked.
The little brother that Mike had spent his whole life looking out for. He was responsible for him since he was a kid, and every one of Matt’s failures was considered one of Mike’s in his fathers eyes. The last time Mike talked to him was last year, after he picked him up from rehab. He was catching a plane to Mexico City with no plans of coming back.
“He called me last week, asked to help get dad off his back. I guess I’m the new disappointment in the family.”
“Hey, if your dad wants to go play savior with your brother, let him. But don’t let him and his agenda get in your head. He’s no better than these political puppets surrounding us.”
“Speak of the devil,” Mike muttered under his breath, nodding his head behind you.
You turned to find his father, Chief William Dodds, approaching the two of you.
“Hi son,” he greeted Mike with a firm handshake, then turning his attention to you. “Detective. It’s nice to see you.”
“You as well, Chief.” You shook his hand next, resisting the urge to squeeze too hard.
“Don’t you two clean up nice. Most cops that come to these things have no idea how to dress, they’ve spent too much time in the ranks to know what life is like outside of it.” Chief Dodds commented, and you gave a polite nod of your head.
If you didn’t care so much about Mike, or your career, you would’ve chewed his head off right here, right now.
“Well, we don’t have time for all the show business like you guys do, we’re busy keeping the city safe.” Mike added.
“My son, he gets so defensive, takes every comment personally.” His father said and turned towards you. “Mike didn’t tell me you were coming tonight, or else I’m sure he would have asked me to be on my best behavior.”
“Dad,” Mike tried interrupting him, but it was no use.
“But I never thanked you, for acting quickly at the Munson call. If it weren’t for your quick thinking, Mike could have been hurt a lot worse.” You took the compliment from the Chief, but waited for the other shoe to drop; you knew when you were being set up. “Although if you didn’t leave him in there alone with an armed perp in the first place, we could have avoided all of this. Nevertheless, it was handled, and I’m sure you acted just as your Lieutenant trained you to.”
It was no secret that Chief Dodds was not Liv’s biggest fan. He undermined her every chance he could, and he never tried to understand how SVU was different from every other department. Mike being placed as the Sergeant was his way of getting an inside scoop, but boy did that backfire on him.
And once you piss off Olivia Benson, you piss off her whole squad.
“Our Lieutenant is the best commanding officer I’ve had in my time at the department. Ask anyone that has served with her in SVU and they will tell you the same thing. It’s a shame that you didn’t get the opportunity to learn some things yourself. A lot of people hold her in high regard, so I’d be careful what you say about her around here.”
“And if I were you, I’d watch my tone around your District Chief, Detective. Especially with your Sergeant standing in ear shot. It’s clear to me that SVU has no respect for the chain of command, and it would be a shame for you to learn this the hard way. Mike has already had to deal with the repercussions of being tied to SVU.” Chief Dodds threatened, and you actually had the audacity to scoff at him.
Mike began defending you, but you stopped him, holding your hand out in front of him.
“I don’t scare easily, Chief, and it's going to take a lot more than threatening my reputation to get me to turn my back on Lieutenant Benson and Special Victims. As for your son,” you looked back at Mike, his eyes steady on you the entire time. “Sergeant Dodds has been an incredible asset to our squad, so much so that our Lieutenant wanted him to stay in permanently, which I know is a sore spot for your ego. So you can continue to take shots at me, and my character, because you don’t really know me. But I’ll be damned if you think I’m going to stand here and listen to you drag Mike’s name, and his stellar reputation through the mud because he decided to make his own path. One that doesn’t involve all these fancy parties and pictures that you so thoroughly enjoy.”
Chief Dodds was stunned into silence, running a frustrated hand through his hair. He looked at Mike who also had a stunned expression on his face, but a smile was starting to show through.
“Excuse me.” The Chief removed himself from the situation, moving on to the next party goer with a smile on his face.
Once he was out of ear shot, your shoulders deflated and you turned around to apologize to Mike.
“I am so-“
“Do you want to dance?” He interrupted you, his smile now fully covering his face.
It took a few seconds for you to actually hear what he said, and when you did, you couldn’t help but laugh. Clearly, he wasn’t mad about you going off on his father.
“I’d love to.”
Mike took your hand and led you to the small dance floor, weaving in and out of older couples dancing the night away to the orchestra. You quickly took in your limited audience, including two Sergeants from your precinct, and the deputy commissioner of communications. He wrapped his arm around your waist drawing your attention back to him.
“You alright?” He asked as you curled your hand around his shoulder.
“Just a lot of people here, watching,” you said as Mike began to laugh.
“You just chewed my dads head off, a district chief, in front of these people, and now you’re scared of them seeing you dance with two left feet?”
“I don’t have two left feet.” You replied, squeezing his shoulder in jest. “I just don’t want people talking about me, that’s all.”
“Cmon, they’ve got better things to talk about than me and you.”
“If they heard anything I said I’m sure they’ll be talking about the crazy SVU detective for ages.”
“Hey,” he squeezed your waist, drawing your attention back to him. “No one has ever stood up to my dad like that, not for me.”
“Well someone should have. I know he’s your dad and you love him, but that doesn’t give him the right to control your life or talk down on you.”
He shook his head as you continued swaying together, slowing down a bit to match the tempo of the music.
“It means a lot for you to do that. And if I wasn’t so impressed with your outburst, I would’ve done the same for you. I should have.”
“I’m not worth getting into a fight with your Dad, Mike. Like he implied, I’ve got no real future outside of SVU, not that I’m really looking.”
“You’re worth it to me.” Mike said, eyes locked on your own. “If it weren’t for you I wouldn’t have made it a week in the squad. You’ve changed my perspective on a lot, both on the job and off.”
You smiled, lightly ducking your head as you felt the blush creep onto your cheeks.
“Well you’re not so bad yourself, Dodds. You’ve taught me a lot too, maybe too much. One day I’m coming for that Sergeant’s shield of yours.” You joked, and he threw his head back in laughter.
It was so nice to see him like this. It was rare to get a moment of pure happiness on the job, and you weren’t sure how honest you wanted to be about changing your relationship outside the precinct.
“As soon as you pass the Sergeants exam, you can have it. You’d be better at this job than me any day.”
You moved a step closer to Mike as more people stepped onto the dance floor. You’d never seen this many cops dancing in your life.
“I meant to tell you earlier, but, you look beautiful tonight.” Mike said, trying not to be obvious in looking you up and down.
You were blushing now for sure.
“Would you take it back if I told you I had to borrow this dress from Liv?” You had panicked last night, not knowing what to wear to a gala, and not wanting to embarrass Mike.
“Not a chance, extra points for trying so hard.” You laughed as he put some space between you.
“Mike, I know you’re a show off, but you better not be doing what I think you’re doing.” You warned, but it was too late as he lifted up your arm, gently spinning you underneath him. He smoothly pulled you back into him as a few people cheered for you. “Do you have to be good at everything?”
“Unfortunately, I do.” You hid your smile in his shoulder, not missing the way his hand slid comfortingly over your waist and lower back.
And unfortunately, you fear you could get used to this feeling.
****
The first time you were saved by Mike Dodds was in the middle of a bar fight.
This wasn’t your finest moment, yet you rarely seemed to be on your best behavior around Dodds.
The two of you were undercover in a joint operation with Vice. The bar had been home to an underground gambling ring for years, and a few weeks ago you got credible intel that they may be branching out into sex trafficking.
Three other Vice detectives were in the bar with you as their Captain and the rest of their squad surveilled from an unmarked van outside.
“You want a refill?” Mike asked as you finished your second club soda, trying to hide the sour look on your face from all the bubbles.
“And pretend I’m not choking on this awful carbonation instead of a smooth vodka? No, I’ll pass.”
He got the bartender’s attention and ordered himself another alcohol free beer and a Diet Coke for you.
“Thanks.” You tipped your glass to his and took a refreshing sip before conducting another once over around the space.
“Simmons is still situated by the door, Ruiz and Lawrence have been under for an hour now.” Mike stated into his earpiece, updating the team outside.
There was no timetable on this, and as far as Liv was concerned, we were on our own in terms of conducting our investigation.
“This whole joint investigation thing is feeling a little one-sided to me.”
“Well give it a little longer before doing a lap to check-in with Simmons. If they don’t want to help us, they can tap in two of their guys from outside. Lieu already made that clear to their Captain.” Mike said before taking a sip of his non-alcoholic delight, his face scrunching in discomfort.
“Looks delicious.” You said with a smile, earning a laugh from the Sergeant. “I’ve been meaning to ask you, have you talked to your dad since the gala a few weeks ago?”
“Oh, you mean since that SVU detective tore a Department Chief to shreds?” He joked as you rolled your eyes. “I have, and he was extremely talkative thanks to the fact I avoided him for a week after.”
“Do I owe you Chinese food for the rest of the year in order to keep my job? I should know that my outbursts don’t come cheap.”
“He told me that he was impressed by you.” Mike started, a smile slowly appearing on his face. “He was mostly upset about your blatant insubordination, especially in such a public place, but he was impressed. I think he may even like you.”
“Are you messing with me?” You asked, not fully trusting the relaxed smile he was giving you.
“He asked that I bring you along to the next gala, all of them actually, ‘if it wouldn’t be too much trouble’,” he finished in air quotes, signifying the direct words from Chief Dodds. “My father is impressed with you, and probably wants you to be his next conversational opponent.”
“And what did you say, you know, about bringing me along?”
You hoped you didn’t sound pathetic, or eager, or anything other than an inquiring friend. But it was hard to act normal when you felt the butterflies in your stomach and your heart rate increasing over the fact that Mike and his dad were talking about you.
“I said I’d have to ask her. Not sure how she feels about spending so much of her free time with the Dodds.” He said before turning in his chair to face you. “But I told him I had a good feeling you would, you don’t just tell off a Police Chief for a work friend. And of course, as long as Liv lets you keep borrowing her clothes.”
“Funny,” you said while shoving his shoulder, earning another laugh from him. It was then that you saw Ruiz head up the stairs, subtly motioning for you to meet her in the bathroom. “Ruiz is back up, I’m gonna go check-in with her.”
You walked straight to the bathroom, having to dodge a noisy bachelorette party on your way. Ruiz was washing her hands when you walked in, and you quickly cleared all the stalls before she began talking.
She kept it short so that she could get back to the game, but they weren’t getting far on the sex trafficking front. Apparently the boss was going to be here later on, but even then there was no guarantee he would offer anything up. Their investigation, of course, was going to be handled by the end of the night, but there were no promises for us.
You waited a full three minutes to exit after Ruiz in case anyone was watching her. When you left the bathroom and started making your way back to Dodds, you saw a Blonde woman sitting in your seat, cozying up next to him at the bar. As you got closer, you recognized her from the bachelorette group, a sparkly pink sash giving her away.
“Hey, everything okay?” Mike asked as you joined the two of them.
“Yeah, just a bit of a line in the bathroom.” You said, watching as the new girl continued to look Mike up and down. “Did you make a new friend?”
“I’m Alex!” She jumped in, big smile covering her face as she moved to place a hand on Mike’s arm. “I came up to get a round of shots for my group of friends. It’s Lizzie’s last weekend as a single woman, and we cannot let her be sober for one second of it. But then I got distracted by Mike over here - a guy as handsome as him shouldn’t be sitting alone at a bar.”
“Well, luckily I came back in the nick of time.” You said, hoping she would order her shots and be on her way.
“I was telling him about our weekend - we’re down here from Albany, we’re not city girls. We’re headed down the street for our next stop, apparently there’s a popular karaoke bar that all the famous people stop in at. I told Mike he should come with us, invite a few of his cute friends along too to keep the party going.”
“I don’t really see him joining you for the rest of your night, Alex, but thanks for the invite.” You replied while taking a step toward Mike, lightly wrapping your arm around his shoulder, hoping she would take a hint.
“Okay.” Alex said with a chuckle before continuing, “But you should be careful, leaving your man alone in a bar with those pretty brown eyes of his, cause someone’s gonna come up and take him away.”
“His eyes are hazel, actually, they’ve got a little bit of green in them depending on the lighting. I know it might be hard for you girls from upstate to differentiate colors, so I can help you out.”
You never considered yourself to be a jealous person, especially over someone who wasn’t even yours to have. But something about this girl coming up to Mike on this night, after the recent events that have gone down between the two of you, you felt a little protective over him.
“Everything alright over here Alex? Where are those tequila shots?” Another blonde woman with a pink sparkly sash came over to us, checking in on her friend and drinks.
“Yeah, they’re coming. Just trying to tell my new friend here to keep an eye on her boyfriend or he may decide to join the group of pretty out of town girls for the night.”
“Listen, Alex,” you remove yourself from Mike, taking a step closer to the girl who was really ruining your already shittiy night of undercover work. “I don’t know how bar etiquette works at your little townie spot up in Albany, but us city girls like to take the fight outside.”
“Alright, why don’t we just continue our night and let you girls go back to your party.” Mike interjected, feeling his hand on your lower back, steadying you out as Alex only laughed.
You took another step toward her, not knowing what your next move was, before the bartender stepped in.
“You,” he pointed to you, then to the door. “Fighting’s gonna get you thrown out any night lady. You’re done.”
“Thank you, sir,” the girls replied.
Before you could open your mouth to say anything else, Mike was standing behind you, arm wrapped around your waist to lead you toward the exit. Simmons eyed the two of you as you walked out, shaking his head with a smile on his face. You weren’t going to live this down.
The two of you made it down the block before breaking away from each other, looking back to see if anyone followed. When you looked back at Mike, his hands were on his hips, a growing smile on his face.
“Don’t,” you warned while running a hand through your hair. “Don’t say anything.”
He didn’t, but he couldn’t keep his laughter in any longer. You wanted to yell at him, tell him it wasn’t funny, that there was still an investigation going on, and this was completely embarrassing for you both. Instead, you joined in his laughter.
“Were you really going to fight the innocent bachelorette party from Albany?” He asked through his fits of laughter as you rolled your eyes.
“Of course not. But how else was I supposed to get the drunk bridesmaid away from you so we could continue our surveillance? Offer her more sparkles?”
“Or offer to buy the next round of shots.”
“Now you tell me,” you said as you leaned against the side of the building. “At least we didn’t mess up the whole op, then I’d be in really deep shit not only with Liv but with Vice, and there’s nothing I hate more than owing a favor to a Vice cop.”
He nodded, agreeing with you as he settled in next to you. You knew you should go check in with the Captain, confirm they don’t need you for anything else before leaving the investigation, but you weren’t going to move until Dodds did. And the way he relaxed next to you, you had a feeling he didn’t want to leave any time soon.
“No one ever notices that my eyes are hazel, you know. It’s kind of weird how you hit the nail right on the head with the fact about them turning green.”
You turned to look at him, a little smirk on his face as he leaned his head back against the wall.
“As weird as talking to your dad about your close friend’s gala availability?” You hit back, watching him laugh and nod along with your point. You smiled to yourself for a second, remembering the conversation from earlier. “You’re sure I don’t owe you, he does like me, or at least tolerate me?”
“Do you want to talk about how much my dad likes you or how much I like you? Cause let me tell you, I’ve got him beat by miles, I like you more than I’ve ever liked anyone.”
“Mike,” you started, watching as he pushed himself up to stand in front of you.
“Are you really going to look into my hazel eyes and tell me you don’t like me? That you weren’t going to get in a bar fight with a random girl for me?” He asked, and you let out a shaky breath.
“You know it took me a while to figure out your eyes were hazel, I thought they were brown for a while. I’m not some crazy person who just studies people’s eyes all day.” He nodded, trying to hide his smile as he let you finish, “and I wasn’t going to get in a fight with her. Maybe, maybe I would have shoved her, but I wouldn’t have thrown a punch.”
“Well that’s reassuring.” Mike added, and you couldn’t deny him now. Not when he was listening to you ramble on about his eyes, and his father, and all the weird things you two knew about each other.
“I like you too.” You confessed. “And you’re right, I wouldn’t attend galas and tell off police chiefs for just anyone. I’d only do it for you, Mike.”
“I’m glad to hear that.” He said while wrapping his arms around your waist, pulling you close.
Mike’s eyes flickered down to your lips, taking his time bringing his gaze back to your eyes. You felt yourself nod the slightest bit, gently guiding him closer to you. His lips were soft against your own, slow and gentle as you kissed him back. He pulled away for a second, another check-in, before you leaned in again. You let him take the lead as you ran your fingers through the hair at the nape of his neck, trying not to smile as you felt his teeth graze your bottom lip.
“Sorry,” he mumbled against you, lightly pecking your lips a few times.
“Don’t be, I’m not going anywhere.”
Hours could have been spent lazily kissing Mike Dodds, feeling your stomach slowly build with butterflies. But you caught the smile he was trying to suppress, and it became contagious.
“Well,” he said with a laugh, gently resting his forehead against yours. “I guess you do really like me.”
“I guess so.” You leaned back to kiss him again, not wanting to let him go now that you know how good he feels. His tongue danced across your lips for a few seconds, and you relished in the feeling before slowly pulling back. “I don’t mean to be a total buzzkill, but we aren’t exactly going to be able to hide this for long at the station.”
“We’ll figure it out.” He assured you, gently kissing your forehead. “If some shuffling needs to be done, or conversations need to be had, we’ll take care of it.”
“So your dad may get to move you around after all, how nice.” You said with a laugh, as Mike nodded. If it meant you could be together, and Mike was happy with it, why the hell not.
Before he could say anything else on the subject, his phone began to ring.
“Please don’t be Liv, please don’t be Liv,” you begged as Mike pulled away from you, quickly answering his phone.
“Hey Lieutenant,” he greeted Liv on the other end of the call and you closed your eyes. This was going to be good. “No, the Captain got it wrong. She got us thrown out for threatening to fight another woman.”
You rolled your eyes as he continued to talk to Liv, pacing the sidewalk trying to set the story straight and wrap up this godforsaken joint investigation.
Mike pulled the phone away from his ear now, walking back over to you.
“She wants to talk to you.” He said, trying to hand you his phone.
“No, she’s going to yell at me in that Liv tone, when I didn’t really do anything wrong!”
You caught his small smile before he gave you a quick kiss.
“Then you can explain that to her.” He said, holding out the phone to you. He kissed you one more time, for good luck and courage, before placing the phone in your hand.
You tried to hide your smile as you took a breath and placed the phone to your ear, ready to plead your case.
“Hey Lieu, I did not get into a bar fight with the bridesmaid from Albany.”

One Hour Ahead of the Posse - Fargo Series 2 AU
Rye is injured and on the run. His conversation with Judge Mundt couldn't have gone any worse... and in his inebriated state, he decided to flee the scene on foot – leaving his car behind. It's not a question of *if* he's found out, but when.
Dipping my toes back into fanfiction for the first time in... what, like 2 or 3 years? I have no idea how to advertise fics on Tumblr so please bear with me 😭
This is an AU for Fargo series 2, where Rye's car accident wasn't quite as serious. Maybe Peggy braked sooner or was going slower. It mainly follows Rye and delves into what might have happened between the Gerhardts and Kansas City if Rye had been in the picture.
The next chapter is currently in the works! I'm not sure when it'll be done but rest assured I am not planning on abandoning it. Probably. I also have a crossover AU planned that I'm going to be co-writing with @pastelspindash if anyone's interested in that.
I didn't post about this sooner because I wasn't sure if i wanted to connect my AO3 to here, but I've decided fuck it. I'm the Rye Guy on Tumblr dot com it's my duty to share my writing here, too.

Trapped together (Part 1)
I haven’t written anything in over a year, but apparently this is the time of year I get inspired! However, one of my 2023 goals is to finally write out some of the ideas I’ve had for a while. I will continue to post very sporadically, but please let me know if you would like to be tagged when I do (I believe @plaidbooks asked to be tagged on a past post).
This fic fills the Blizzard square for StoriesofSvu’s 2022 Holiday Bingo @storiesofsvu . It’s my first 2-part fic, and I hope to have the finale uploaded in 1-2 days.
Pairing: Mike Dodds x Reader
Trigger warnings for a brief mention of serial killer in the “set-up” to the story (skip the 1st paragraph if you’d like to avoid it!)
************
It had been a busy two weeks of intense investigation by the Manhattan SVU squad on the hunt of what your team now believed to be a prolific serial killer who traced victims new to the city back to their rural hometowns to attack someone in their families. Today, you and Sergeant Dodds had needed to travel through a West Virginia mountain pass following a lead based on a victim who had run away from her small West Virginia community. Her cousin had suffered a mysterious hunting accident only 5 days after her death in the city.
However, when leaving the small county morgue, the local Sheriff informed you and Sergeant Dodds of an impending blizzard and that the mountain pass was unsafe to travel through and would only get worse throughout the night. You both tried to explain you were used to driving in New York winters, but he convinced you both that it wasn’t worth the risk. Instead, the Sheriff directed you to the only motel in a two hour radius where you and Dodds would have to wait out the storm until the roads cleared enough to return to NYC.
It was a small, desolate, dingy highway motel that looked like it usually saw its own clientele of shady individuals. The owner directed you and the Sarg to the only room left that held one queen-sized bed. Everyone who had been traveling through the area had descended upon the hotel in an effort to ride out the storm, and the owner told you both how lucky you were to arrive in time to get the last room.
You and Dodds shared a look. It was one of discomfort and hesitation. There may have also been some mortification on your part with some added on bubble-guts related to your secret penchant for reading “there was only one bed” romance books. There was no way that situation was actually happening to you in your actual real life. With Mike Dodds. The most beautiful man you had ever seen. Also the nicest.
“Are you absolutely certain there are no other rooms?” asked Dodds. The motel owner again confirmed that there was the one queen bed which we could take or leave. “What about any roll-away cots?”
The hotel owner let out the phlegmatic laugh of a 30-pack year smoker. “Where do you think you are, son? This ain’t no fancy place, which is clearer than day to anyone who ain’t blind. Ain’t you some detective? Sheriff Lonnie called ahead and near ordered me to hold the room for you two.”
You stepped in before your sergeant risked offending the only person standing between an unlucky situation and a worse situation. “Then could we at least get some extra towels and blankets, please? As many extra blankets as you have,” you asserted, with your hand on your gun hip to get the point across. You didn’t trust the ancient-looking powerlines outside to be capable of keeping even the small hotel warm and lit. The owner came back a few minutes later, shoved a stack of towels and blankets into your arms, and shut the door behind him.
You turned around and found Dodds with his hand on his head, clearly thinking hard about something. You watched him for a moment before he noticed you watching. Then, with resolution, he grabbed a blanket from the pile and grabbed a pillow off the bed and headed towards the door.
“What are you doing, Sergeant?”
“I’m going to sleep in the car tonight.”
“Are you insane?” you spluttered.
“I’ve slept in worse places than a car.”
“During an Appalachian mountain blizzard? Do you have any idea how cold it’s about to get outside? People die in these kind of conditions, Sergeant.”
“I’ll keep the engine running.”
“The gas won’t last that long and I doubt the car battery will be able to make it through the storm, either, without dying or the engine line freezing.” You knew nothing about cars, but that sounded right.
He leaned with his head against the door and mumbled something you couldn’t understand.
“Pardon?”
With a big sigh he turned around, “I don’t want to make you uncomfortable.”
“I’m not uncomfortable.” This was all uncomfortable, of course you were uncomfortable. “Are you uncomfortable, Sergeant?”
He hesitated, “a little.”
“Would you be uncomfortable if it was Carisi here with you instead?”
He barked out a laugh and ran his hand through his hair. “I would be, although I’m not sure if I’d be more or less so.”
“I personally think I’d be more uncomfortable with Carisi. He strikes me as the type of sleepover guest who keeps everyone else up all night talking then drools all over your mom’s guest pillows.” You both laughed uncomfortably before you continued, “We’ve had too long of a day for worrying about making one another uncomfortable after an already long week trying to find our perp and getting an idea of the extent of how many victims he even has. I’m tired and we’re both grown. We’ve worked together long enough that we can sleep in the same room without it being weird, can’t we?”
“You’re right, I’m sorry. I didn’t want to make things even more uncomfortable. I just want you to know I respect you and your comfort.” Your heart did a weird somersault before he continued, “and your role as one of my detectives.” Oh. Right. You were going to have to remind yourself to be professional. It’s not like you had the biggest crush of your life on your own Sergeant. That would be career suicide and a recipe for an embarrassing situation that you didn’t have the social grace to handle.
“Of course I know that, that would never be in question, Sir.” There. See? Super professional. Professional was your middle name. “Now, I’m going to try to shower the morgue germs off.”
You carried all of the towels into the bathroom with you. You closed the door behind you and made a face in the mirror after catching a whiff of the moldy air. This was the grossest motel you had ever been in. It had probably been built in the 60s and seemed to have the original brown and mustard carpet, curtains, bedding, possibly even the same towels. You weren’t sure if you wanted to inspect the bed to rule-out bedbugs or if you were afraid to look. It’s not like you could do anything about it.
With a sigh you started shrugging out of your suit. When you were stripped down to your undies, you made a decision. You filled the sink with soapy water and scrubbed your undergarments. Then you took the time to stand with the mini hairdryer attached to the wall to dry them off. You could put up with a lot of things, roach motel included, but you weren’t going to sleep in anything less than fresh drawers. Then you took a quick hot shower and scrubbed yourself dry with a scratchy towel before staring at yourself in the mirror and thinking about the sleeping arrangements.
You really didn’t want to sleep in your suit pants after traipsing through the rural crime scene and a morgue, but you also didn’t want to make your already uncomfortable boss more uncomfortable. You were very grateful that you threw on a t-shirt under your blouse that morning. Still, it barely reached the top of your thighs and your lacey underwear were quite visible. You left the t-shirt on, wrapped a towel around your waist for the walk to the bed, and stepped outside of the now-steamy bathroom and walked, with pretend confidence, towards the bed.
With your head held high and eyes aimed on your destination you strode further into the room…and tripped right over your sergeant who was laying on the floor. You caught yourself after falling on your knees and looked behind you with a look of exasperation.
“WHAT are you doing?” you yelled at the same time apologies were spilling out of his mouth and he was trying to help you up. At some point the towel had fallen off from around your waist so you jumped up the distance between the floor and the bed and quickly pulled the covers over you.
“I’m so sorry, I was trying to find the cleanest part of the carpet to sleep on. I assumed you would see me?”
“No I didn’t see you Sergeant, why would I expect to see you on the floor? Why are you on that disgusting floor? Do you know what kind of things get trapped in a 60 year old rundown motel carpet? Please get up!”
“I thought it would be better if I slept on the floor. I told you I’ve slept in worse places,” he smiled sheepishly and made no move to get up from the floor.
“Sergeant, am I more repugnant than that filthy floor?”
His eyes grew wide as saucers, “Y/N, no!! Of course not! How could you think that?”
“I think that because you continue to sit on the floor.”
He stood up and looked lost. “I….where am I supposed to sleep if not in the car and not on the floor?”
You stared in confusion at his confusion. “Sergeant, in the bed. Next to me. Surely that’s better than a car in a blizzard or a motel room floor?” He turned red from his neck to the tips of his ears. He seemed at a loss for words.
“If it would make you more comfortable, we can pile a bunch of these extra pillows and towels in between our sleeping bodies. You know, so that I do not mistakenly accost you in the night.”
“I never! I never thought…” he stammered.
“Of course not. I’m teasing you, mostly, but I certainly don’t expect you to sleep on the floor and considering where we are I would prefer you did not.” You piled up two extra blankets lengthwise in the middle of the bed. When he remained standing where he was, you shrugged, laid down, and turned over on your side. You really were tired and this was a mentally exhausting case. You didn’t have the energy to spend anymore time coaxing your sergeant into a somewhat comfortable sleeping arrangement nor to convince him that you could both behave like adults. You heard him shuffle into the bathroom and you heard the water start. You pulled the blankets tighter around you. The wind howled outside and despite the old heating system being turned up to its highest number, the room felt very cold. You pulled your knees up to your chest hoping to conserve heat.
You must have been close to dozing off because what felt like only a few minutes later you felt the far side of the bed dip and heard the lamp click off. The bed moved a little as Dodds tried to get comfortable. You weren’t sure if you should say goodnight or continue looking like you were asleep, so you decided to stay as you were. Part of your decision came from the fact that you were so cold, you couldn’t bare the thought of uncoiling from your fetal position. As you started feeling heavier with sleep, you wondered if you had been shivering because you felt another blanket being placed over you. A hand very lightly squeezed your shoulder as you heard a whispered “Goodnight, Detective” before falling fully into sleep.

Rules, Guidelines, etc.:
[Used to be: ronaldrx]
I'm a hobby writer and mostly write (x Reader) FanFictions and Headcanons. But I am also working on my original story whenever I can, so that I’ll hopefully publish it as an actual book someday. My Ao3.
Here’s a link to my Ko-Fi, in case you want to support me financially. It would mean a lot to me! (Obviously no obligation whatsoever! You never have to pay for anything on my blog, it’s merely an option for donations.)
Also, here are my sideblogs if you’re interested:

Law and order svu fanfiction.
Part 6
Freed is free
Elliott: pov I open the door while holding Diane's hand I hear Bobby open the fridge and grab a drink he then grabs Diane yanking her back inside and kisses her on the lips. He then hits me over the head with a bottle. That is when I make the ultimate decision and shove Liv out the door with the kids. He then grabs for my gun and we struggle for it.
Liv: pov this can't be happening again. I'm starting to hyperventilate. I call Fin and tell him we have an emergency Bobby hit Elliot over the head with a bottle he grabbed from the fridge and I think he has Elliot's gun I'm not sure. As soon as Fin and Ayanna arrive I hear a gunshot that is when my world turns black and I pass out.
Fin: pov Liv calls me telling me she has an emergency she tells me Bobby hit Elliot over the head with a bottle he grabbed from the fridge and she think he has Elliot's gun. A few minutes after we arrived on scene. I can tell Liv is struggling to keep it together. I hear a gunshot that is when Liv faints. While I tend to her Ayanna and some other offers breach the backdoor and enter the house.
Liv: pov I come too in the back of an ambulance, I tell Fin did they get Dodds out of the house yet. He got shot and where is he? I need to see him.
Ayanna : pov Elliot is sitting on the floor applying pressure to the guys foot wound turns out in the struggle for the gun he shot himself in the foot. Outside the house Elliot asks where Liv is I tell him with Fin, she fainted. I tell him he needs to get checked out. By the ambulance I see Fin sitting with Liv who does not look so good. She is definitely somewhere else. She says I need to call Matt to tell him he got shot. I'm sorry chief I should have checked the house for a gun. You need to call his fiance. I hear Liv say can you call Ed for me?'' That is when I noticed Fin looks emotional. She again says she needs to see Ed.
Elliot: It's so sad seeing Liv not herself and somewhere else. The medic says I'm fine, I just need a few stitches. Ayanna says do you know how to reach this Ed guy, maybe calling him will help her. Fin mouths to Ayanna it's Tucker. He died a while ago. I told you the story while we were stuck in the elevator. It takes her a few seconds to figure out what he means. She must be having flashbacks or remembering what Fin told me. What happened to sergeant Dodds. Fin says Matt, his brother, was in Mexico at the time and Alice his fiance. Was in Chicago.
Fin: pov she is now crying grieving the death of Mike, I told her to look at me. Elliot is safe; he only has a little cut on his head. After talking with Liv for a while. She Eventually calmed down once she realized where she was and that Elliot is safe and not hurt.
Liv: pov I'm so embarrassed that I fainted. Fin booked me for an emergency appointment with my therapist. It is decided that we all head back to the station before we head home. Fin told Elliot the day little Dodds died was his last day of work at SVU.
Amanda: pov Fin left me in charge of Joe while he went to the scene he called and gave me an update. Tell me they were about to leave the scene he mentioned Liv fainted after Elliot got hit with a bottle and the husband got shot in the foot. Wow that sounds bad. Fin said he will tell me the whole story once they get back.
Ayanna: pov Elliot says he has a question he has been meaning to ask. Since he was gone, has Liv ever been shot? Fin says no but has been taken hostage so many times a few of them were very traumatizing. He mentions the Jayvon case was hard. Some woman was harassing this guy in the park. And when Liv got there to the scene there was a dead body and officers were trying to arrest him and she went off the info she was given and handcuffed him. At the precinct she found out he was innocent and everyone blamed her and called her a racist which is not true. Wow that must have been hard for her.
Joe: pov everyone went home. It is now the next morning and I asked Fin how he slept he said not great spent most of the night up. Last night he had to take Liv to her appointment which was hard as always. Elliot stopped by with Donuts and coffee on the way to work. Said he wanted to check in on Liv he handed Fin his tea. Fin said the chief heard about her little incident last night so Liv is not here, she is in a meeting with the chief.
Elliot: pov Fin answers his phone and says what's wrong Liv hold on, slow down, can you repeat that yes I will be there in a few minutes. Amanda you're in charge I have to go.
Amanda: pov what's wrong Fin is everything okay.
Fin: pov I don't know the chief wants to see me. Liv sounded upset on the phone. I arrived at the chief of police's office. I can hear Liv yelling at him saying you can't do this to me. I walk in and ask what is going on. The chief says Liv is unfit for duty. Can't have her fainting every time she is on call. I told him what happened yesterday was triggered by the fact that it was similar to the way little Dodds died and that is the only reason it happened. Me and Liv managed to work something out with the chief thankfully. Back at SVU Elliot is still waiting, he asks how the meeting went and I said bad thankfully we convinced the chief otherwise he was going to say Liv is unfit for duty which is not true. Elliot then headed to work at the OC. To be continued. ………

Can't Help Myself
Tumblr media
Mike Dodds x fem!reader Warnings: language, smut, semi public sex.
The NYPD was hosting one of their many annual galas, this one in specific honour of the Special Victims Unit across New York. This meant that tonight, the various squads were required to all be in their dress blues, the formal part of the evening (and the dinner) were over, leaving everyone in various states of dress, some buttons undone, a more relaxed feel took over as the drinks started to flow.
You were up at the bar, a plus one of the event thanks to Mike Dodds, though also a guest as the SVU’s current A.D.A. waiting for another round of drinks when Mike came up behind you, sliding a soft arm across your lower back, pulling his body against yours, kissing the side of your head. The bartender was preoccupied so you turned into your boyfriend, curling your hands behind his neck while your eyes drank in his appearance, it was a very rare occurrence to see him in his blues and it certainly was doing something for you. You leaned up, placing a gentle yet solid kiss against his lips, pulling him into your body as his hands wrapped around your waist, fingers trailing the bare skin of your back.
“What was that for?” He asked, a smug grin on his face, you simply smiled, kissing the corner of his mouth before pulling away,
“I mean this whole gala is kind of for you, isn’t it?” You quirked a brow, slightly turning back to the bar, leaning against him, Mike laughed gently, kissing the back of your head as you rambled an order off to the bartender.
“This whole gala is kind of for the entire unit sweetheart.” You turned back to him, eyes raking over his form once again,
“Well maybe I just can’t help myself when you look like that…” He practically growled, pulling you against him for a deep kiss, he could taste the champagne on your tongue, your perfume assaulting his senses, you tore apart from each other when the bartender cleared their throat loudly. You mumbled an embarrassed thanks, tossing a fiver in the tip jar. You took your drinks, making your way over to the rest of the squad, your relationship had been disclosed to those needed, and Mike’s dad already knew, but most of the squad was in the dark still. Mike dropped his hand from your back as you approached the table.
The two of you spent a small amount of time interacting with the squad, drinking, laughing at jokes and making fun with each other. Carisi made his way back to the bar with Rollins while Fin and Olivia buried themselves into a deep conversation. You took this brief moment of privacy to turn towards Mike, nipping at his earlobe, cupping his length in your hand, causing him to quietly moan into your cheek,
“Sweetheart…”He murmured, eyes rolling back briefly,
“Yes baby?” You innocently glanced up at him through your lashes, you felt his hand cautiously make its way down to your ass, squeezing tightly,
“Meet me in the back bathroom in 5…” Mike whispered into your ear, nipping at your neck before excusing himself. You continued the friendly conversation between the detectives before politely excusing yourself as well, making your way to the private bathroom. You opened the door to see Mike leaning against the counter, eyes shooting up to you as the door opened, which you promptly locked.
In two quick strides he was on you, lips on yours, pushing you against the wall, pinning you to it with his hips, rolling against you while you gasped against his mouth, his hands grasping at every inch of your body they could.
“Mikey…” You moaned, he bit heavily into your exposed neck, “God baby, you look so fucking good in that uniform…I fuckin’ love it…” His hands trailed down your body, making their way under your dress, finding your panties soaked, he chuckled darkly, biting against your skin again before his fingers buried into your heat.
“I can tell…”He laughed, pulling back to watch your eyes roll back into your head as his fingers continued their assault on you, doing your best not to make too much noise. “You look so fucking sexy in that dress baby,” Your cunt clenched around him, you whined heavily.
“Mike please…just fucking fuck me….” You begged, he chuckled, pushing your skirt up as he pinned you against the basin, both of you facing the mirror, pushing your panties to the side.
“You ready sweetheart?” He asked honestly,
“Yes….please…” You practically sobbed as he pulled himself out of his uniform, those blues were simply too much for you. Mike traced his head through your folds, causing you to jerk back against him, a soft cry escaping your lips before he plunged into you. A breath of lust broke through your lips, your hands gripping the counter in front of you as Mike plowed into you quickly from behind. You both knew you didn’t have a lot of time, or a lot of privacy to finish off. Mike pulled your body up, closing a hand gently around your neck as the other roped its way around to your clit, rubbing hard fast circles. You quietly sobbed, clenching down around his cock, your body trembling against his, as he thrusted you through your orgasm your hand buried itself into his hair, pulling tightly. Mike pushed you back down against the sink, pounding relentlessly as his hips stuttered before he groaned heavily, leaning forward as he bit into your neck, stilling against your body.
“Fuck sweetheart…”Mike muttered softly against the skin of your bare shoulder, leaving a trail of kisses across your back as he slowly pulled out, wiping your folds with a Kleenex before placing our panties back in place. You remained against the basin, regaining your breath before you pushed yourself up, fixing your hair and lipstick before turning back to Dodds.
“You okay?” You smirked, tracing a hand down Mike’s cheek, kissing his lips gently as he placed himself back in his uniform,
“More than okay baby.” He laughed lightly, “Might need a minute…” You laughed outwardly at that, giving his ass a slight slap,
“I’ll meet ya out there.” You gave him a deep kiss before leaving the bathroom, making your way back to the table of SVU friends. By now it was only Fin, Olivia and Carisi, everyone else seemed to have left. You ordered another glass of champagne as you reached the table.
“Y/N, ya look flushed, ya sure ya should have another drink?” You laughed, glancing across to Liv,
“Carisi I’m fine, I promise you.” A few moments later Mike returned to your table, still slightly out of breath as he asked for another drink as Fin butted in,
“What, you need to run a few laps around the building to keep up with your fitness?” Mike laughed outwardly at that, Olivia raised a brow at you,
“Please don’t tell me you just…” You cut her off, not caring about privacy anymore, practically everyone knew anyways,
“Fucked in the bathroom, yeah, yeah we did.” You took a swig of your champagne as Mike sputtered into his glass, Carisi literally choked on his beer, and Fin cackled into his. It was a matter of seconds before Chief Dodds was at your table, congratulating the unit for a job well done and everyone had to keep as cool as possible.
“Y/N, glad you could be here, we’ll see you Sunday, right?” William asked,
“Of course Chief!” You leaned into the hug and kiss on the cheek, you’d been to multiple dinners with the Dodds’ already, he gave a formal goodbye to the squad, squeezing Mike on the arm before he left. Mike leaned into your back, kissing your shoulder, muttering against your ear,
“You ready to go sweetheart?” You turned in his arms, no longer afraid of the squad knowing, placing a passionate kiss against his lips, his hands finding their way to your waist, pulling you against him. You pulled away softly, a look of affection in your eyes as you bore into him,
“Of course.” You winked, you both made your very quick goodbyes of the squad, Mike’s hand held very tightly on your lower back, taking a risk to slip down to your ass to squeeze it every so often, there was no way either of you were finished torturing each other for the evening.

Emergency Contact
Your Mike’s wife, after his unfortunate passing (I’m so pissed about it). You leave town and don’t contact the team, but then Sonny, your partner and best friend gets a call from a hospital. Characters – Reader, Sonny, Olivia, Amanda. Word Count – 532
‘Y/N.’ You heard the familiar voice, you turned your head and looked at the tall man standing in the doorway. ‘Sonny?’ You asked, he nodded as he leaned against the door frame. ‘What are you doing here?’ You asked him, he gave a small smile. ‘I’m your emergency contact.’ He said, he then looked behind you and noticed the small figure, wriggling around. ‘You had a baby.’ He said, silently asking if he could come in, you nodded and looked at you son. ‘Yeah- I had a baby.’ You said, looking at the dark-haired baby, that was gurgling to himself. You tried to hold it in, but as he turned to you all you could see was Mike and you couldn’t contain it anymore. ‘I had a baby.’ You sobbed, your hand flying up to your mouth as Sonny snapped around to you, he felt his heart break looking at you. He quickly removed his suit jacket before climbing into the bed carefully beside you, and placed a hand under your head, pulling you close to his chest. You grasped onto his shirt and let out a sob as your shoulders shake, Sonny’s hand running up and down your back, trying to comfort you.
---
‘Y/N, you’re back and you have a baby.’ Amanda said when she saw the bundle of blankets in your arms, Sonny following behind with a car seat. Olivia and Finn made their way over. You gave them a smile. ‘Who’s this little guy?’ Olivia asked you took a deep breath and moved the blankets away from his face, allowing them to see the black hair, he opened his eyes as he took them in himself. ‘Guys, I want you to meet Emmet Michael Dodds.’ You said, your voice wavering slightly but they didn’t pay any attention, not wanting to make you feel worse. ‘When did you find out?’ Olivia asked, as you bounced him up and down. Sonny pulling faces behind you, making him smile and gurgle. ‘The morning of the incident.’ You informed them. ‘Why didn’t you tell us? We would have helped.’ Amanda asked, Olivia silently asked to take Emmet, you turned to her. ‘I needed to get away.’ You said as you cautiously handed your son over to Olivia. ‘Everything reminded of him, here and home.’ You explained, ‘So, I moved and tried to get through it.’ You said, she nodded. ‘Are you back now?’ Finn asked as he pulled faces at Emmet. ‘I’m back here, but I don’t think I’ll be away from work for a while, nee to get used to being a mother.’ You said, as you looked at emmet who was now being held by Amanda. Olivia and Finn were pulling and cooing at him, you smiled slightly as he smiled and let out a little giggle. ‘Well we’re always be here.’ Finn said, trying to comfort you. You nodded and gave him a smile, glad that you were back with your family. ‘Well we don’t have a case, so how about dinner?’ Olivia asked, you smiled widely and nodded. ‘I’d like that.’ You agreed, Amanda reluctantly passed him back to you.

Spark: Mike Dodds x Reader
Tumblr media
The rooftop was cool, the breeze chilled your skin as you stood with your back to the access door of the precinct. You were leaning on the ledge of the wall, the packet of Marlborough’s you had stashed previously sitting beside your elbow as you took a drag. It was rare that you allowed yourself to indulge in the habit but today you needed it.
Mike was back from his stint undercover and you had just discovered that he was dating.
You wondered what was wrong with you. You had agreed to end the relationship when he had taken the assignment. Two years was a long time and he had made it clear that he didn’t expect you to wait.
You hadn’t talked about it since he had been back. With the squad, you were cordial and polite, but inside you were a torrent of emotions. Anger, sadness, elation, you experienced them all and even after six week you were no closer to achieving resolution.
You stared out across the city as the light began to stretch out across the buildings making them shimmer in the red glow. You heard the access door open behind you, you didn’t even bother to turn around, you would know Mike’s presence anywhere. You closed your eyes inhaling the scent of his aftershave as his footsteps drew closer. You had always taken refuge in him, he was steady and secure no matter what role he played in your life. That was until he wasn’t.
You opened your eyes as you felt him take up residence beside you. It sent a shiver rushing through you as his hand accidentally brushed yours.
"You smell like perfume." you stated with a chilly tone as you stubbed out the cigarette on the concrete wall.
"I had a date." Mike confirmed. "It didn't work out."
It was there out in the open between you as Mike spread both hands out upon the wall and stared straight ahead.
"She doesn't know what she's missing." You told him, your fingers curling around the box of cigarettes, squeezing them tightly.
"I could say the same about you." Mike responded, turning around so that his back was resting against the wall.
"You could, but it wouldn't make a difference.” You told him numbly as you stared out across the city.
Your barriers were up, Mike could see the walls were up so high it was damn near impossible to breach them. He despised himself for twisting you up like this, for making you feel worthless when it was him who wasn't good enough for you.
"You know that's not true." Mike submitted, his eyes studying your face as you pursed your lips tightly.
You were struggling to fight against his words. Struggling to put them in perspective, you turned your head so that you met his. He could see the pain swimming in them, the anger, the hopelessness. He had never seen you so broken. Mike had made himself just another person who had left you. Someone else who didn't want you.
"You're right, I am just being dramatic." you said with a smile that didn't quite meet your eyes.
You didn't believe him, the wound he had inflicted upon you was still raw and open. He didn't know how to change your mind, to show you how much you were worth. You saw your relationship with him as another failure, another reason to shut off another part of yourself.
Mike watched as you withdrew another cigarette. The Hula Girl lighter you had left upon the wall was already in his hands as you placed the cigarette your sensual lips. You arched your eyebrows questioningly as he used his thumb on the mechanism to release the flame. Your face was inches from his, he was careful to keep his hands steady before you drew away, taking a long drag, before facing the skyline again.
"Tell me about your date." You requested, he wondered if it was simply to be polite.
Mike placed the lighter back on the wall before his eyes settled on the setting sun, hanging in the sky.
"She was a nice woman, smart, funny and beautiful." Mike admitted, staring down at his hands, before shaking his head. "There was no spark."
"Spark isn't everything." You remarked, passing the cigarette over to him.
Mike took it gratefully, the nicotine taking the edge off the feelings that were churning all around, deep inside him.
"Spark has a lot to do with it." he informed you, holding up the cigarette.
"Spark is over rated." You told him as he straightened up meeting your eyes with his own.
You froze in your tracks. There was a second where you felt like you couldn't breathe. You could see the earnestness in his gaze as your body unwillingly leaned towards him. Mike's hands came to rest on your hips, a gesture so familiar it filled you with longing. It had been over two years since he had last laid hands on you.
Your body was responding to his touch, your heart beginning to beat faster as your skin flushed with a heat. It was a feeling you had only ever experienced with him. Your eyes lowered to his mouth, to the sensuous curve of his lips as you reached out, your thumb sweeping over the outline.
Mike closed his eyes and breathed deeply. The scent of your perfume was like a drug to him, he felt himself already wanting to close the gap between the two of you, to take you in his arms and hold you like you were his all over again.
"You're sure about that?" he asked you, his voice rough with emotion.
Your hand smoothed over his clean-shaven cheek, he turned his head, so his lips brushed the pulse point of your wrist.
"I was." you uttered, your voice wavering with uncertainly.
"It wasn't you." he murmured as your free hand came to rest on his chest through the white button up shirt he was wearing. “I didn’t leave because of you.”
He could feel the heat from your touch pulsate through his skin as the material pressed against his chest. Your fingers splayed over the place where his heart beat against his ribcage. He wondered if you could feel it beat a little faster under your touch, if you could feel the way it had ached over the past two years.
He swallowed hard, trying to force out the words that he had wanted to say for so long. You needed to hear them, you needed to understand, but you were making it very hard for him to concentrate when your lips were merely inches away.
Your clothes were almost touching. He wanted you closer, he wanted your slick skin pressing against his. He wanted to show you what you meant to him, heart, body and soul.
"It was me." he managed to whisper as you stared up at him. "I wasn't good enough for you. I was selfish."
"And now?" you asked quietly.
"I'm ready." he told you, his lips brushing over the corner of your mouth. "When you're ready I'll be right here."

10. Rafael Barba - A Night Together
Warning: Smut
"No one's ever touched me like this, fuck."
"Fuck. You feel amazing."
*Rafael Barba's p.o.v*
Three, gruesome hours later and the jury was finally back with their anticipated decision. Liv, Amaro, Raelyn, and I were sitting and waiting impatiently; Raelyn’s foot was smacking against the floor as she shook her leg, staring longingly at the clock. A faint chime came from the inside of my pants pocket, vibrating against my leg. I removed the phone and looked at it.
“What is it?” Liv asked, Raelyn standing to her feet.
“The jury’s back,” I remarked while taking ahold of my suitcase, leading the three of them out of the small room we were in.
People started crowding back into the courtroom before the jury walked in. As soon as everyone was back in their seat, the judge and jury entered the room. I could almost feel my heart exploding in my chest, worried that I might have lost this one. It was always a little worry in the back of my head despite the confidence that radiated off of me towards the others. The bailiff walked over to one of the jurors, his feet colliding with the tiled floor, then grabbed the slip of paper from her before passing it over to the judge. He opened the slip of paper and turned to the jury.
“Has the jury reached a decision?” He inquired, his wrinkled hands setting the paper down.
“We have, your honor,” the woman stated.
“Then on the charge of rape in the first degree, how do you find?”
 “We found the defendant…”
“Guilty!” Amaro sang as the four of us walked into the precinct, catching everyone’s attention, “on all charges.”
After speaking to each other, the detectives decided to pack it up and call it a night. This had been such a hard case; no one wanted to put the young victims through more trauma or do anything that would make them back out of testifying. Part of me hoped that maybe there was something I could do tonight besides go back to the office and work on some paper, but Liv had Noah to get back to and everyone else had plans tonight. Or at least, I thought.
“Raelyn,” Carisi said, “what are you doing tonight?”
“Oh, nothin’ special,” she responded, her southern accent poking through, “probably just go home and watch some stupid television drama while drinkin’ a bottle of wine.”
“Sounds like a night I can get behind at my own house,” Liv laughed, slinging her purse over her shoulder.
Most of everyone had already wished each other a goodnight and were heading out the door. Amaro would be staying here a while longer until his ex-wife brought their daughter, Zara. I was watching Raelyn go through the files on her desk and putting them up in neat stacks, contemplating whether or not to ask her to join me for dinner. Taking a deep breath, I approached her.
“Hey, Raelyn,” I started off, watching her shuffle through the files, “I was thinking since you aren’t doing anything tonight and I’m not doing anything either, maybe the two of us can get some dinner.”
 “Oh, that would-”
Raelyn stopped what she was doing and turned to look at me, her eyes slightly widened.
“I’m sorry what?” She questioned, “did I just hear you correctly?”
I smiled and leaned against the corner of her desk feeling a boost of confidence I didn’t know I could feel.
“Well if you heard me asking you to dinner, then you did.”
Now it was Raelyn’s turn to smile, the files now pressed against her chest. Her red hair bounced against her shoulders as she nodded her head. Raelyn told me to give her a moment so she could put away her files and then we’d head out. I stood by her desk and waited for her patiently while she finished her business. When she was done, she grabbed her purse, keys, and coat then followed me to the elevator leading downstairs. I told her about the little Italian restaurant that was just down the block from my office that I took my mother to for Mother’s Day once. Luckily both of us loved Italian food.
The drive to the restaurant was peaceful and relaxing. When we reached the restaurant, we went inside and sat down. It didn’t take long for us to order, and I even bought us a bottle of wine to enjoy with it. Raelyn looked at me.
“I was kind of surprised that you wanted to get dinner with me,” she stated.
“Why’s that?” I asked, taking a small sip of my water.
“You always seem to be busy, always workin’ whether on a new case or some paperwork. Never figured you’d be into hangin’ out.”
The more she talked, the more I found myself falling deeper and deeper in love with her. Her accent was what I loved the most about her. I knew Raelyn, she wasn’t the type of girl to throw herself around despite being incredibly beautiful. Most people definitely found her intimidating; she was strong-willed and strong-minded, normally not having a problem saying what she wanted and how she wanted.
I smiled and shrugged, “don’t know. Guess I just felt like getting out today.”
“Well I’m glad you asked me to dinner. I like hangin’ out with ya.”
Throughout dinner, Raelyn and I discussed things like family life, career paths had her father not passed away or her brother, and I found it interesting that she’d have liked to be a teacher. I told Raelyn some things about my mother and my grandmother, then told her what life was like for me when I was a child; the friends I grew up with, how I ended up wanting to become a lawyer.
A few minutes into the conversation and the waiter brought our food; I ordered some lobster ravioli while Raelyn had ordered lasagna. I poured Raelyn a glass of wine and she thanked me.
“Nice place, huh?” I asked, pouring my own glass of wine.
“It’s amazin’,” Raelyn said, her fingers holding her glass delicately, “the food smells great.”
While we ate, we continued our conversation. After finishing our food, I paid, despite Raelyn’s protest, and we headed back out to my car so I could take her home. Raelyn ran her fingers through her long, slightly tangled hair as I pulled into the parking lot of her apartment building. I insisted on walking her up to her apartment and was glad when she didn’t protest. I know that Raelyn can protect herself but I wouldn’t feel right if I had just left her to go up there alone. It wouldn’t be gentlemen-like. Raelyn and I approached her front door, she turned towards me and smiled.
“Thank you for dinner, Rafael,” she said, her shoulder leaning against the white frame.
“Of course, Rae,” I chuckled, “I had a lot of fun.”
She bit her bottom lip, her eyes were staring at the keys that were dangling in her hand, her coat was hanging loosely over her arms.
“Do you want to come inside? You know, maybe for some coffee before you head home.”
“Well I did have wine,” I replied.
She rolled her eyes playfully knowing that I had only drunk a glass or two and that caffeine wouldn’t sober me up if I had been drunk. She unlocked her front door and headed inside with me following behind her. She reached over and flipped the light switch on. A soft glow illuminated the living room. It was a nice place. Raelyn hung her coat up on the coat rack then took mine from me to put it up there as well. While I placed my suitcase down and admired her home, Raelyn went into the kitchen to start a fresh pot of coffee. I could hear the coffeemaker going off just as I walked into the kitchen.
“Alright, coffee is makin’,” she said, turning to face me.
I walked over to her, taking glances at her kitchen, admiring it. When I reached her, I smiled. I was nervous. Raelyn seemed to notice that I was nervous then placed her hand on my shoulder.
 “Rafael, you okay?”
 “Yeah, I’m just nervous.”
“Nervous? Why? We spent lots of time together before.”
“I know. But I mean, I didn’t exactly ask you to dinner as a friend. It was kind of a … date.”
Raelyn’s eyes widened a bit. From behind us, the coffeemaker was coming to a stop brewing the dark, warm liquid. She lifted her hand off my shoulder and started grabbing coffee cups.
“I wish you’d told me it was a date,” she giggled, “because then I would have dressed up more nicely rather than wearing my work clothes.”
“Well if it makes you feel any better, I think you look beautiful.”
Just as she was finishing stirring the coffee, I had moved closer to her, grabbing the cup of coffee from the counter and taking a drink. Our eyes never tore away from each other. Raelyn picked up her cup and we went back to the living room to sit on her couch. The cushions sunk in as we sat together. Raelyn slipped off her shoes and crossed her legs so that she was facing me.
  “Thank you again,” she said.
“No need to thank me,” I replied, “I enjoyed it. I was just happy that you agreed to go, it would have been awkward to be turned down.”
A small laugh escaped from both of our mouths. The two of us made small talk while drinking a whole pot of coffee between the two. The clock said that it was almost midnight, normally the time that I was heading to bed as soon as I walked through my front door after work. Raelyn seemed to notice the time too.
“Do you need to head home?” She inquired, swirling the coffee in her cup around.
“I don’t have to head home right now,” I replied, “not if you don’t want me to.”
With each second, the two of us were inching closer and closer. I could smell the shampoo in her hair and the sweet smell of watermelon and lilies from the perfume that she was wearing. She could probably smell the cologne I was wearing too from how close we were. I leaned forward and pressed my lips against hers. A minute passed before we started moving our lips in sync, no one wanted to make a sudden move that might deter the other person away. When I pulled away from Raelyn, the two of us were smiling like crazy.
“That was, uhm, unexpected,” she said, placing her mug on the round coffee table placed in front of us, “but nice.”
I placed my coffee mug down beside hers before placing my hand on the side of her face and kissed her again, this time with much more passion and confidence. Raelyn wrapped her arms around my neck, her nails raking through my short, brown hair. My hands touched her waist then pulled her into my lap, both of us careful not to knock the filled coffee cups over onto her carpet. Her legs were on both sides of my own, straddling me comfortably as our tongues explored each other's mouths, fighting for dominance until I won. When we pulled away again to catch some air, her forehead rested against mine. Our eyes staring longingly into one another's. Her gorgeous, stormy, blue eyes watched my honey, brown orbs.
“Absolutely gorgeous,” I whispered, my hands running up and down her sides, “perfecto.”
I stood up, Raelyn still in my arms, and her legs were wrapped around me, then I carried her to her bedroom. Luckily her bedroom door was open a bit, so I was easily able to open the door with my foot. I placed her down on the neatly made bed and stood between her legs. Raelyn was smiling, her bottom lip once again caught between her teeth.
I moved down, lowering myself onto her smaller form, watching her dainty hands touch my arms then move up to my neck and face. The feeling was amazing, something I haven’t felt in years. I licked my lips just before they pressed against hers. I could feel her hands wrap around my neck, touching the ends of my freshly cut hair. I moved my left hand under her shirt, the feeling of my calloused hands on her smooth skin making me hungrier, my fingers slowly traced her skin before grabbing the hem of her shirt and pulling it off. Removing my lips from hers, I traced them against the nape of her neck. Her body was tense but it eased with every kiss. Pressing one last kiss to her jawline, I sat up and started removing my tie and unbuttoning my shirt. Raelyn had moved to her elbows and was watching me.
As soon as my shirt was unbuttoned and my tie was off, Raelyn’s hands were caressing every inch of my chest with her smooth hands. Her fingers reached the small amount of chest hair glued to my skin and entwined fingers in them. There was a slight pinch. After she took her hands away from me, she moved them behind her back to take off her black bra. Once it was off and sitting on the floor with our shirts, I quickly moved my lips to her perfect, pink nipples. Every lick and bite of her fleshy breast and hardened nipples allowed for a sweet moan to release from her throat. I pulled away, a small drip of saliva stretching between my lips and her breast. Raelyn’s eyes were hazy and full of lust.
“No one’s ever touched me like this, fuck,” her soft voice whimpered.
“I’m just getting started,” I groaned while undoing my pants.
Raelyn didn’t waste any time removing her pants too, revealing her matching black panties. I spotted a few scars on her side and started touching them.
“Happened on one of my undercover jobs back when I worked Narcotics,” she sighed.
I peppered the marks with gentle kisses before looking back at her.
  “Sigue siendo hermosa,” I hummed.
Hooking my fingers underneath her panties, I pulled them off and practically drooled at how exposed she looked in front of me. I leaned forward and pressed gentle kisses against her thighs. I kissed both of her legs until I reached her honeypot. It was already dripping even before I attached my lips to it. But as soon as I did, Raelyn’s fingers tangled themselves into my hair, her back arching as soft moans poured from her red, plump lips. My tongue ran over her folds earning more moans coated in her sweet wines. I ran my fingers over her skin, tenderly touching anywhere that seemed to please her.
I slipped my fingers into her folds and groaned as she tightened around me. She was so warm, so wet, so perfect.
  “Good girl,” I whispered.
Being praised seemed to turn her on even more. I moved towards her face, keeping a slow and steady pace between her folds with my fingers. I started kissing her, feeling her lips vibrate as she moaned softly. But I had to remove my lips because I wanted to hear her intoxicating voice.
“R-Rafael,” she croaked, “stop teasin’ me already.”
A slow chuckle shook my chest as I slipped my fingers from her core. I slipped on a condom that Raelyn had in her nightstand. Once it was on, I wrapped my right arm around her thin waist and slowly aligned myself with her entrance. Both of us moaned as I pushed in further and further, her wet cunt engulfing my cock desperately.
“Fuck. You feel amazing,” I growled, moving faster and faster with each thrust.
Raelyn’s hands tightened in my hair as I practically started ramming into her. The headboard behind us was hitting the wall with soft thuds echoing in the room. Neither one of us cared if her neighbors heard us.
I pulled Raelyn up so she was sitting on top of me. As one of my hands held her by the small of her back, my other hand moved to the back of her neck and gripped her hair just tight enough to keep her facing me. A thin layer of sweat coated our bodies making us slick. Raelyn was bouncing up and down, holding onto my shoulders tightly, her nails dug into my skin. I welcomed the pinch of her nail, pulling a little harsher on her hair and starting to suck on her neck leaving light reddish-purple marks on her beautiful porcelain skin.
She started moving up and down faster, clinging to me. I leaned over to her ear and groaned.
“How about you bend over the bed for me, mi Amor?”
Raelyn didn’t argue, she just climbed off of me and leaned over the edge of her bed. I moved behind her and slipped right back in, not wasting any time. Her fingers gripped the bedding tightly as she threw her head backwards.
“Shit,” she cried out, “please, faster.”
I did exactly what she wanted, snapping my hips faster and faster. The palms of my hands squeezed her waist as I drilled into her. I could feel her legs shaking and becoming unsteady, so I took one leg and propped it up for her. She regained her balance, and the new position caught my breath in my throat.
“So fucking tight,” I hissed, slamming faster and harder, “God damnit! Fuck Raelyn!”
She was trying to muffle her beautiful moans into her pillow, but I pulled her hair to keep her up. Not too hard, but with enough strength to keep her looking forward while I railed her from behind.
I once again removed myself from inside her tight cunt and watched her return to her back. Digging myself back into her when we were positioned right. Now the headboard was slamming hard against the wall causing the both of us to laugh but not slow down.
Raelyn gripped my shoulders, “feels so good.”
“Oh yeah,” I whispered, my breath shaky, “tell me how good it feels baby girl.”
  “Rafael, it feels so good.”
I lifted one of her legs over my shoulder, holding it there by her small calves. Peppering soft kisses on the side of her leg as I pumped my cock deeper and deeper into her perfect, sweet little cunt. Her crystal blue eyes rolled to the back of her head and arched her back up again. Sweat from my forehead dripped onto her skin.
“I-I can’t hold on m-much longer,” she gasped.
I leaned down and kissed her hard before pulling away, the sweat on my nose touching the tip of her nose.
“Then don’t. Let it out, Cariño.”
And just like that, her eyes rolled back, her body started shaking viciously, and her hands pulled me closer to her face. She practically screamed as she came all over my dick, her legs trembling as I helped her ride out her high. Just as she was coming down from her high, my own high started to appear. Each thrust got sloppier and sloppier as I stared into her tired eyes, nonetheless, her hips moved to meet with my own.
“Fuck,” I hissed as I filled the condom I was wearing with my seed, “fuck, fuck, fuck!”
Our breaths were heavy as I stayed on top of her. Her breasts were touching my chest each time she and I took a deep breath and let it out. I admired all of the beautiful, purple marks on her perfect, white skin. When we finished catching our breath, I pulled myself off of her and removed the condom I was wearing. After tossing it in the garbage, I laid back down. Raelyn turned to her side to face me, I did the same, and her soft, swollen lips stretched into a tired smile. We pulled the comforter over us and I pulled her closer to me.
Raelyn rested her pretty, redhead on my chest and sighed.
“That was definitely fun,” she giggled.
 “I’m glad sweetheart,” I chuckled.
Within minutes, the two of us fell asleep in each other’s arms. The smell of sex dripping throughout the room.

take a break
pairing: mike dodds x reader
word count: 1.1k
warnings: brief mentions of anxiety and coping mechanisms, pure mike dodds being supportive fluff
a/n: this is just some self indulgent, i guess hurt/comfort, but mostly just comfort. i spent 6 hours in front of a screen today doing homework and other work, so i needed to conjure something up with my brand. hope you all enjoy. also: i tagged some of my moots, and if you want to be tagged (or removed) for future svu boy fics, just let ya girl know.
When Mike walked through the door of your shared apartment, he expected to see you curled up on the couch, enjoying a lazy sunday movie marathon. When he had the weekend off, he loved to spend that time with you, making your way through the list of hundreds of movies you wanted to see.
He was home a few hours earlier than he thought, making it back for dinner and before the sun went down. So when he saw the couch empty, and the lights off in the kitchen, he began to worry just a little bit.
“Y/n?” He called out, hoping you were here.
“I’m in the bedroom,” You replied, and Mike could hear the exhaustion in your voice. He loosened his tie on the walk to your bedroom, no more light exposed in the back of the apartment than the front.
He stood in the doorway to the bedroom, watching you frantically type on your laptop, glasses perched on your nose, one leg tucked under the other. He clocked the pajamas you were wearing, the same ones you went to bed in last night.
“Hey,” He greeted, resting his hands on your shoulders and dropping a kiss to your head. You mumbled back a hi in return, your gaze never leaving the glowing screen.
The shades were cracked open the slightest bit, a lamp on in the corner for some more light. You continued your typing pace as he changed out of his dress clothes into comfier sweats and a t-shirt, and went to wash the day away from his face. He picked up a water from the kitchen, and saw that there were no dishes in the sink. Had you eaten anything today?
When he returned from the bathroom, he saw you rubbing at your eyes until the skiing turned red, placing your glasses back over them.
“Have you left this room at all today?” He finally asked, hoping that the answer was a yes. You didn’t answer him, just kept the incessant pounding going on the keyboard. He never knew he could hate the sound so much.
“Y/n.” He said, stronger this time, and saw your shoulders shake the slightest bit. “Honey, have you been sitting here all day?”
You tried to stifle the sniffle you let out, rubbing your nose and rolling your shoulders a few times. But Mike was quick, pulling the foot stool over and taking a seat next to you.
“I just have this transcript to get through and then a couple hundred words to submit.” His eyes were locked on your face, seeing your face contort this way and that to keep the tears from falling. But he already saw them, and he’d had enough of seeing you so overworked.
“Hey, why don’t you take a break. It’s not good for your eyes to stare at a screen all day.” He rested his hand on your forearm in an attempt to stop your fingers from typing another word. When he saw your hands stop in his peripheral, he looked over to see your engagement ring shining from the glow of the screen. He couldn’t help the little butterflies in his stomach since he proposed a few weeks ago. “Are any of these deadline’s tomorrow?”
“No.” You let out a sigh, and as a result of your deep breathing, a few tears fell over. Mike wasn’t alarmed by them; he knew you pushed yourself to get things done on time, and once you started something, you couldn’t stop. Even if you wanted to, sometimes your anxiety wouldn’t let you.
So he started the routine that he’d performed countless times for you. He removed your hands from your keyboard, placing them gently on your lap. He closed the laptop and pushed it back on the desk. He took your hands in his again, gently pulling you up with him. Pushing your glasses to rest on the top of your head, he gently wiped the tears off your face, loving the tiny smile he got from you as he did so.
“Do you need to take a few deep breaths?” You confided in him early in your relationship about your anxiety, and the coping mechanisms that best worked for you. Although you usually needed to talk yourself through a situation, through the reality you were experiencing, you told him deep breathing worked wonders for you too.
He loved that it was something he could do with you, take a few deep breaths together, to remind you that you weren’t alone. That he was here, and he was ready to help you through it.
“No, I’m okay.” You let go of his hands for half a second before wrapping yourself around his middle. He tucked you under his chin, more than happy to hold you in his arms. “I just need you.”
He smiled, dropping one, two, three more kisses to your head, feeling your smile grow against his chest.
You pulled away after a minute, still keeping your arms secure around him. “Thank you.”
“Anytime,” he started, rubbing gentle circles on your waist. “Why don’t we order some takeout, get you changed in some fresh pajamas, and settle on the couch for a movie. I believe this sunday we were supposed to start with ‘The Greatest Showman.”
You let out a laugh. “Thank you for indulging in these movies with me. I don’t know any other man that would want to sit through a heartwarming musical with me.”
“Well, that is the reason you’re going to marry me.” He said and pulled away from you, a little whine leaving your lips. He didn’t go far; he just went to grab you some fresh clothes, one article being your favorite sweatshirt of his. You smiled as you took them out of his hands.
“I love you, you know that right?” He smiled, never getting tired of hearing you say those three words to him over and over again, as he leant down to give you a kiss. He felt your fingers comb through the hair on the back of his head, getting him to smile into the kiss. He pulled away after a few more seconds, your own smile peeking through.
“I love you too.” He stole another chaste kiss from you, feeling the cool platinum band of your engagement ring rest against his face. Before you completely separated from him, he turned his head the slightest, pressing a kiss to the palm of your hand, then to your ring finger.
Mike loves being there for you, and he can’t wait to marry you.

UPDATE - One Hour Ahead of The Possee
Chapter 3: 1974 Chevrolet Caprice Classic
He squeezed his eyes shut, covered his mouth, held his breath, anything to stop the waterfall of despair from crashing down on his head. He was lost, trapped, and utterly helpless. Three things a Gerhardt should never be.
I'm on a roll lately! Like i said in the A/N, I have about 600 words of Chapter 4 already written up. I'm really having fun writing this fic and I'm really excited to get into the good stuff in the next few updates.

Second Chances
AN: In ten years I have NEVER written a oneshot this long, it’s over 10,000 words and nearly twenty pages, but this idea has been bugging me for a few weeks. I hope you enjoy!
Pairing: Mike Dodds x Fem!reader
Warning: Self harm; after a case Mike does bare knuckle boxing as a form of self punishment, nothing too graphic. Mentions of major character death.
Tumblr media
“So, what’s our reason?”
Liv doesn’t even glance up at you. After six years, she’s gotten rather good at working through your babbling. “Our reason for what?”
“Hating the new sergeant? When Rollins and Amaro came we hated them because they weren’t Elliot? Are we hating the new guy because he isn’t Nick?”
She glares up at you, “You’re a pain in my ass, you know that, right?”
You shrug, “It’s my specialty.”
“We didn’t hate Carisi when he transferred in.”
“No, I didn’t hate him. The rest of you were . . . enh? Not to mention the poor man has been asked to be called Sonny about a billion times and I’m the only one who will do it.”
“Carisi was brash. . . and then there was that mustache.” You shiver a bit at the memory. That thing had been horrible. “And now Carisi is a much loved member of the team.”
Out of the corner of your eye you watch the chief walk in with who you assume is his son. You lean back against Liv’s desk, “They don’t look much alike, do they?”
Liv peers around you, “Nope. Be ready though, I’m going to have you teach him the ropes.”
You smile and then head out of the office and back to your desk, the one that sits right across from the new sergeant. You catch his eye as he passes by and you give him a small smile before diving into your paperwork.
You’re just getting to the bad part of the paperwork, when you hear your name called. Your head shoots up and you lock eyes with Liv. She’s smiling, it’s her ‘company’ smile, the one she uses for political shindigs.
“Y/F/N Grey this is Mike Dodds, our new sergeant. Dodds, this is Grey.”
Your first thought, standing in front of him is, man is he tall. Your second thought is, man is he pretty. You shake his hand and exchange pleasantries.
“You mind showing the sergeant the ropes? I’ll be along shortly, but the chief and I need to finish our conversation.”
“No problem Leiu.” You take the slip of paper from her with the details, “Finn and Sonny already there?”
“Yep. So do me a favor and make the introductions.”
“On it.”
You grab your jacket, do a small spin as you put it on, and smile at your new team member, “Time to head out Sarge.”
You see the confusion on his face as you head out. You stay quiet on your way to the hotel. He’s nervous, you can see it in the slight twitches in his fingers. He’s doing better than you had on your first day; you’d run into a wall while taking a perp down, and the entire squad had mother henned you for a week. You’d been twenty three, and had been deemed the kid from that moment on. Nevermind the fact that you were twenty-nine now, the nickname was still heavily used.
You make introductions at the hotel. Your sergeant seems to relax a little bit in the presence of fellow males, and you nearly snort. Finn and Sonny are more weary of him than anyone. They’re fiercely protective of you and Liv and Rollins. Your loveable boys.
You nearly burst out laughing when the Sarge mentions his father. Any possible goodwill for the boys just went out the window, and you ask him, “Can I give you a tip?”
He looks down at you, “Did I screw up already?”
Your lips twitch, “No. Just some advice.”
He looks hesitant, “Okay.”
“Be Mike.”
He blinks a few times, “What?”
“Be Mike. Don’t be Chief Dodds son. Be Mike . . . SVU sergeant.”
He stills, “You mean, don’t use my dad’s name.”
You smile fully, “I mean. . . be yourself. Don’t be what others expect you to be. This department is . . . brutal. A lot of the time, we pour our hearts into cases only for it to end up as a slap on the wrist. And that isn’t our ADA’s fault. He’s a good guy, snarky as hell, but he knows how to make an impression . . . and I’m rambling. When I do that, call my name, and I’ll get back on topic. Anyways, we get through everything by being a family. We text at all hours, and we spend holidays together. The only way you’re going to make it here. . . without losing who you are in the job, is by embracing the squad. We’re your people now.”
He stares at you for a second, “You’re very honest . . . you know that?”
“Yeah. I’ve been told that. I’ve also been told I’m obnoxious . . . if I get to be too much just let me know.”
He shakes his head, “No. It’s refreshing.” You beam at him.
Your Sarge does well. He picks up the terminology quickly, and when you correct him on the water and DNA thing he takes it well. You count those as good signs. He really earns your respect when he doesn’t rat out Rollins to his dad, and you can see a glimmer of respect in Liv’s eyes too.
As the case wraps up and the paperwork is finished it’s nearly two am, and none of you
have eaten, “Who’s up for Pizza at my place? Sheets and blankets have just been washed, so the pullout couch and chaise are up for grabs.”
Rollins declines, but she usually does, and Liv has to go home to Noah. Sonny and Finn are all game though, and you look at Mike expectantly. He hesitates, “I still have paperwork left . . .”
“And it’ll be there in the morning. When you’re just starting out with those reports they take forever, and you may actually starve and wither away into nothing if you try to do them all at once. Come eat pizza and be subjected to Sonny’s bad taste in movies.”
“Hey!” You toss him a grin over your shoulder and he rolls his eyes.
“You sure I’m not intruding, new guy, boss’ son and all that?”
You roll your eyes, and walk over to him. You grab him by the arm and haul him up,
“Sonny grab his coat.”
“Yes ma’am.”
Mike looks back at you as you literally push him towards the door, “I thought I was in charge.” Both Finn and Sonny laugh at that.
Sonny is the one who drives, and the boys immediately make themselves at home while you order the pizza before going to change. Mike is the only one who’s a little stiff. You watch as he looks around and stops at a photo, “These your parents.”
You hand over water bottles to each of the guys, Finn scowls, “No beer?”
“Not at 2:30 in the morning.” You turn your attention back to Mike, “Yep!”
“They live close by?”
“No. Seattle. And thank God, they’re worriers.”
He smiles, “Not cops?”
“Surgeons. So are my siblings. I went against family tradition, much to my mother’s displeasure. She doesn’t like dangerous jobs.”
Finn huffs, “That’s an understatement. Your mom calls me at least once a week so I can list the trouble you’ve gotten into.”
“Well, I am her daughter.”
Your family is dropped from conversation, as the pizza arrives, and you sprint for the door. Before you can pay Mike steps in and hands over cash. You stare at him, and he stares back, “Did I do something wrong?”
Before you can tell him about the system you have for paying Finn cuts in, “Don’t you complain about free pizza! I swear.”
You look back at Mike, “You did nothing wrong, it's very sweet of you. Thank you.”
He studies you for a second and then crosses his arms against his chest, “There’s some sort of system in place, isn’t there?”
“Yes. And I will tell you about it, when Finn isn’t around to interrupt or trying to change the rules.”
Sonny laughs, “He can’t change the rules anymore, you wrote them down, remember?”
“It’s nearly three am, be happy I’m conscious.”
The pizza is consumed quickly, and Mike starts to relax more and more, as a movie is put on. Eventually, all of the boys fall fast asleep. Finn on the couch, Sonny on the chaise, and Mike on the floor. At least Finn gave him one of the throw pillows. You take out your assortment of blankets and cover all of them before padding back to your room.
You wake up to the smell of food. It’s nearly ten am, and the squad has the day off after working pretty much through the night. You trudge out and find Sonny and Mike in the kitchen while Finn is eating cereal at the table. “They were taking too long.” He explains in between bites of lucky charms.
You roll your eyes fondly, “Just means you’re washing dishes.”
Sonny snorts, “No he isn’t. The man ruins pots and pans. I will do the dishes.” He turns to Mike, “My mother bought her these pots and pans.”
Mike’s brow furrows, “Are you two . . .?”
You burst out laughing, and then look at Sonny, “Sorry. It’s just I know way too much about you, and your childhood, and your family to ever step into that web.”
He waves away the laughter, and turns to Mike, “Despite my mother’s desire otherwise, she’s like a sister. I got hurt on the job one time and she went to get my mom personally. Of course it was during a bible study meeting, and my aunt Florence, my father’s sister, started bad mouthing me and the job, and Y/N made some comments that put her in her place, and bam, my mother started talking about grandchildren.”
“Also known as the reason I refused to go to your cousin’s wedding with you.”
Mike grins, “Afraid she was going to pull a gun and force the two of you to get married?”
You point at him, “You make fun, but when you meet Mama Carisi you’ll understand. I
also expect you to provide cover so I can sneak out.”
“I can do that.”
The boys leave a little while later, with Mike being the last one out. He wavers at the door, “Thank you for this. It’s been a long time since I’ve just been one of the guys, and not . . . “
You deepen your voice and finish his sentence, “Michael Dodd, perfect son with a stick up his ass?”
His eyes go wide, “You don’t pull punches, do you?”
You shrug, “Like you said. I’m very honest. And it’s under those circumstances that I’ll say, I think last night might have knocked the stick loose.”
He sighs, “Until I see my dad again.”
You lean against the frame, “It’s not easy being a legacy kid, having the expectations thrust upon you. I know. I’ve been there. I was supposed to be a cardiothoracic surgeon, that’s the specialty my mother had me pegged for. Wanted me to go do my residency in Switzerland with an aunt who runs an institute.
“I swear, when I told her I was going to be a cop, she went white as a sheet. She said, tragedy follows our family, and it would end with me dead in the street. She didn’t talk to me for a week after that.”
“And now?”
You smile, “Now she comes to any sort of promotion or awards thing, she flies out just to see me, and we text constantly. It helps reassure her that I’m okay.”
There’s a moment of silence before Mike admits, “I wanted to open a bar. I even tended bar when I got out of the army. Dad tolerated it for a little while, I think he knew I needed time to recover, but eventually the conversations about where my life was going started, and . . .yeah.”
“Are you unhappy?”
He shakes his head, “No. I love what I do.”
You smile, “So do I.”
There’s another moment of silence before you say your goodbyes.
You find a good rhythm with your sergeant. He hits a few bumps in the road but he’s a good cop, and he’s really trying to make himself a part of the team. For the most part people are pretty receptive, but Rollins is still on edge around him, and Liv is . . . wary. The most important thing is that he doesn’t name drop anymore, even when his father stops by he addresses him by sir. That goes a long way towards unifying things.
Then comes his first kid case. You can see the toll it takes on him. He goes from warm and welcoming to closed off and self loathing. You know there’s nothing you can say to make him feel better. So, you stay nearby, and you stay quiet. You don’t even tease him when he and Sonny come back dressed in uniform. You do spare a minute to think about how good he looks though.
When the case is wrapped up, and he’s drowning himself in paperwork, you remind him that your door is open. You don’t expect him to use it, but he does. He knocks on your door a few minutes before midnight. You’re lying on the couch, getting ready to fall asleep in a position that’s going to leave your neck crying in the morning, when you hear it.
You’re a little surprised to see Mike on the other side of the door, part of you had expected Sonny. Kid cases usually lead to him crashing on your couch. The stubble is still covering his jaw, and his hair is a mess. He’s dressed in workout clothes, and you notice his hands wrapped in bloody bandages. You tsk, he’s been punishing himself.
Without a word you steer him towards the bathroom. You force him to sit on the counter, before you clean his knuckles. “Please tell me this was the result of a punching bag, or another consenting adult? I don’t want to have to break in a new sergeant.”
“I’m the only one hurt.”
You rub neosporin over the cuts, before you apply some gauze, and then bandages. When it’s done you pull out the Advil and pop two in his hand before handing him a small paper cup. He pops the pills before sliding off the counter. You push him into the doorway so you can clean up.
You can feel his eyes tracking you, and then you feel them on your ass. You straighten and look at him, “Are looking at my ass?” He blushes and you laugh, “Good to know I still got it.”
“Sorry.”
You shrug, “You can’t do this every time Mike.”
He leans against the frame, “I know.”
“Bloody knuckles aren’t a good look.”
“Usually I wear gloves, but tonight I needed to feel it.”
You sigh, and once again steer him towards the living room. You push him onto the couch and he looks up at you, “You know, you push me around a lot.”
You roll your eyes, as you search for the card you need, “Someone’s gotta do it.” You find it and hand it over to him.
“A therapist?”
You wrap your arms around yourself, “It’s who I go to. It’s how I keep the job from swallowing me whole. And this job, this department will do it Mike. Don’t let it.” He stares at you for a second and your brow furrows. You settle down on the couch next to him and place a hand on his forearm. You don’t miss how he leans into it, and that’s when it hits you; the poor guy is touch starved.
Your lips purse, mainly because you didn’t notice it before. You’re a fairly affectionate person to those you know. You hang off of Sonny all the time, or lay your head on Liv’s shoulder, you’ve been known to rest your chin on Barba’s shoulder as he reads, but you haven’t gotten to that point with Mike yet. That needs to change.
You grip his shoulder and gently tug him towards you. He hesitates for half a second before he leans into it, and you have his head settled in your lap. You run your fingers through his hair, and let your nails scrape against his scalp. He melts into it. And when the sobs come, and tears for Lily fall, you don’t stop, because Mike Dodds is a good man.
You lean your head down so that you’re bowed over him, and you whisper reassuring words: he did his best, he’s a good man, he’s kind, he’s strong, he’s gentle. You feel him grip your hand with one his own, and you know this moment of weakness is a huge sign of trust, and you wonder who he has in his life. You decide he has you and the squad and you’ll make damn sure that’s enough.
You wake up the next morning, on top of Mike. Your limbs are tangled together and his arms are holding you close to his chest. You can feel yourself blushing, especially when, in his sleep he buries his nose in your hair. But you don’t fight it. You actually like being in his arms, and you stop the thought there because you can’t go any farther.
Eventually, he starts to stir, and when he’s awake he blinks at you owlishly and you declare, “You’re like an octopus when you sleep, you have to glomp onto something.”
He laughs, “Nope. Just you.”
You roll your eyes, and he lets you go as you roll off of him. “I bet you have a body pillow and everything.”
He snorts and follows you into the kitchen, “Yeah right.”
You start making coffee, and you hear Mike ask, “Do you think having a life outside of the force is actually possible?”
You raise an eyebrow, “I’d imagine so. Liv seems to have figured it out with Noah. . . I mean it took her fifteen years . . .” The quip doesn’t get the smile you expect. “What’s going on Mike?”
“I want it.”
“A life?”
“The wife, the kids, the house in the suburbs.”
You lean against the counter, “So what’s stopping you from getting it?”
“Life, my father, the rules? What about you?”
“Husband sounds nice. So do the kids. I don’t know about the suburbs though. I think I’d spend more time in the car than at home. Plus, I like knowing I can get takeout at any time day or night.”
He smiles at that, “I could compromise with that.”
Your brow furrows as you process and then your mouth makes a little “oh” shape. He smiles, “For such a good detective you’re oblivious.”
“Only in my personal life. I actually ended up dating a guy for a year and didn’t know it until he tried to kiss. I thought we were just hanging out!”
Mike walks towards, you and hesitates before you give him a small nod. He cages you in with his arms and bends down so he’s looking you in the eye, “I’d like to take you on a date detective.”
You grin, “See, that’s how you do it. Simple, straight forward, and I don’t have to interpret anything.”
“Is that a yes?”
You roll your eyes, “Duh.”
He laughs, and you nudge him, “Come on, you have to admit this will make a good story to tell those hypothetical children you were talking about.””
“Yeah. Oh how did I ask your mother out, well it was just after a case, I alluded to the future, and she still didn’t get a hint, and when I asked her out she said duh.”
You pat his cheek affectionately, “You’ve got time to work on your storytelling skills.”
You move to walk away and he snags you around the waist, spinning you towards him and you squeal before falling into laughter as his fingers dance across your ribs, tickling you. You break free and make a mad dash around the apartment. You dodge him for several minutes before going on the offensive. You jump from the couch and onto his back.
He takes your weight: no problem, and makes sure your secure before allowing the two of you to fall back onto the couch together. You wrap your arms around him from behind, and clasp them together right near his heart, and lean forward so that your cheek is pressed against his.  His large hand comes up to cover yours. Quietly he says, “You’re one of the only people I can be ‘just Mike’ around.”
“Hmm. I think you should be ‘just Mike’ all the time. He’s a good dude.”
He laughs, and when he turns his head you lean in and brush your lips against his. He’s hesitant at first, and you can understand why. He’s a good guy, but with the things you see on the job, he needs to be sure. So you say, “You can always check in with me Mike. My standard code is green is good to go, yellow is slow down, and red is stop, just ask for my color.”
He visibly relaxes, “Color.”
“Green.”
His lips crash against yours. They’re warm, and soft, and you think he tastes just a tad like vanilla chapstick. You save that tidbit for later, as your hand threads through his hair. It’s soft and a little fluffy. All in all the moment turns into you two making out like teenagers on the couch and you both leave that day with a few new marks on your neck.
You don’t disclose, not right away. While you’re pretty sure what you and Mike have is the real deal, you want to be careful. You know his dad isn’t going to take your relationship well, and filing disclosure paperwork is a big neon sign for a fight.
So, you pass the days with secret looks and covert touches, as Mike continues to fully integrate himself into the squad. You catch him joking with Liv, and talking baseball with Rollins. He, Sonny, and Finn actually go out to the bar to watch some pay per view fight every other week. Things are good. . . until they aren’t.
It starts off as a simple favor from Liv asking you to pick her up on the way to the DNA conference. You agree, rather reluctantly from the warmth of Mike’s arms while he still sleeps wrapped around you like a koala. He’s spending more and more nights at your place in the six months you’ve been dating. In fact, he basically lives with you at this point. He has clothes in drawers and hanging up in the closet. His gym bag has a home in your hall closet, and he has shampoo, conditioner, and other toiletries in the bathroom. It should seem like things are moving too fast, instead it’s like things are meant to be.
You untangle yourself from Mike’s arms, and get ready as quietly as possible. When you get out of the shower, he’s awake but still in bed. He smiles lazily at you as you get dressed, “Leaving a little early, aren’t you?”
“Liv asked me to pick her up on the way to the conference.”
He sighs and shifts under the covers, “You guys gone all day?”
“Most of it, unless something comes up.”
You swoop down and kiss him, before you can pull back he murmurs, “Love you.”
He goes still, when he realizes what he just said, but you don’t hesitate, “Love you too.” You toss him a wink that has hime laughing and you’re out the door. It’s fast but you and Mike just click.
You pick Liv up, and you thank her profusely when she shoves a cup of coffee at you. She grins, “Don’t thank me yet. It’s a bribe. I need to make a stop. Lucy is worried about the other family she nannies for.”
You shrug, “Give me the address and let’s go.”
“There’s the enthusiasm I love you for!” You just laugh.
You follow her to the door, and take in the sights on the street. You never see the butt of the gun coming. It makes contact with the back of your head . . . hard, and you go down, and then everything goes black.
When you come to your  hands are ziptied behind your back, and you have to wiggle into a sitting position.
You look around and find Liv in a chair next to who you assume is the mother. Her face has bruises blooming. Your gaze moves to the two kids in the corner. They look terrified.  Your gaze then shifts to a man and a woman; they’re obviously on something, and that is not good.
The man, Joe, catches you up on the situation; you’re being held hostage, the mother is being sent out with a third accomplice to get the money they want and you, Liv, and the kids are his meal ticket. When the mother leaves, Joe decides to separate you from the group. He grabs you by the hair, and drags you to your feet.
The moment you’re standing you act on instinct, and you throw your knee into his crotch. He goes down with a whimper, and a second later the girl, Roxie, has punched you, sending you back to the floor. “You bitch!”
He moves towards you and you glare, “Touch me, and you’ll lose that hand.” He looks wary, having the family jewels attacked tends to do that. Instead of grabbing you again he points the gun at you, “Kitchen now.”
You do as you’re told, and Roxie is the one who secures you to the table, right next to the unconscious and bleeding father. You listen as the mother is led out of the house, and Liv and the kids are led upstairs.
The father is unconscious and bleeding from the head. You try to tell yourself that those wounds always look worse. Eventually, exhaustion begins to tug at you. You feel your head dip several times before you allow it to just take over. Knocking on the door is what wakes you.
You listen carefully, and when you hear Mike’s voice on the other side you want to cry. Instead you do your best to keep your face straight and unemotional. He and Sonny are sent away, but you know he knows something is wrong.
A little while later you hear yelling from upstairs, and after that the telltale signs of sirens. Hostage negotiation is about to begin. Liv and the kids are brought back down, and you’re kept in the kitchen. You listen as negotiations are made for the father to be taken out. You’re a little surprised, but not by much, when Mike enters posing as one of the paramedics.
You make eye contact with him, and mouth the word green; you’re doing okay.
He mouths back the word red; he’s not okay. You’re in here, and he can’t get you out, and you know it’s killing him. You watch him disappear through the door and you want to cry because all you want to do is go back to that morning, when he was wrapped around you, and you were safe.
It’s another hour or two before Roxie leaves to check the SUV, and another hour after that before Joe decides to go out. You’re being left behind, apparently Joe doesn’t like you. But before he goes he squats down in front of you and says, “If it wouldn’t have swat rushing in here, I’d put a bullet in your head.”
That’s a lie. He isn’t willing to kill, or he would have done it before Mike and Sonny had come looking for you. He knows the jail sentence that carries, and killing a cop usually got you life. You don’t say anything, because you know Joe’s minutes are limited. So instead, you close your eyes and you listen for the sounds.
Things are unusually quiet before you hear Liv shout and then, the sound of a bullet. Not a minute later the front door bangs open, and Mike is in front of you. He has you cut free in seconds and your shoulders and arms weep in relief as they’re freed. You sort of collapse on top of him before the paramedics move in to help.
You’re taken to the hospital, and Mike is the one to ride with you. You can hear him shoot Sonny down when he offers. It’s a little forceful and kind of harried. He’s allowing himself to freakout a little bit now.
Once you’re safely in the ambulance you take his hand and admit, “Yellow.”
He lets out a breath, “Same.”
He doesn’t leave your side. Some uniformed officers come to him as you’re in the emergency room, and he sends them to Finn. When his father calls he sends it straight to voicemail, and he admits, “I think it’s time we disclose.”
“Can we do it after the doctors look at me?”
He grins, “You’re cracking jokes, that’s good. It means you’re going to be okay.”
The nurse comes in and asks for your medical history, she looks at Mike pointedly when she does this, and you wave her off. “He can stay.”
You detail how you had your appendix out when you were eleven, and the few non-life threatening injuries you’ve had on the job: two bullet grazes and a broken arm. And then she asks a doozy of a question, “Are you pregnant or think you might be pregnant?”
Your immediate reaction is no. You haven’t been in a relationship in years and you’re not a one night stand kind of girl. Then you remember, you’re in a relationship, and yes you’ve used protection, but nothing is a hundred percent effective, especially after watching Mike box. You try to think about when your last period was, but your head hurts from the math.
You can feel Mike’s eyes on you, and he quietly says “It was over a month ago.”
You blanche, and the nurse nods as she catches on, “How about we do a test real quick.”
“Please.”
She takes some blood and disappears, and you look at Mike with wide eyes. He takes your hand, “It’s going to be okay.”
“We’ve only been together. . . .”
“I know. And knowing us. . . it will be okay.”
“Your dad . . .”
“Is not a factor in this. This is your choice.” And he looks so strong and so steady, you know what your choice is.
It takes about an hour to get the results, and the same nurse slips back in. She hands you the piece of paper that reads positive. You hand it to Mike and the nurse looks between the two of you before saying, “That’s going to be one pretty baby.”
You burst out laughing, and Mike joins you a few seconds later. You’re told an MRI is the best option, but they’re still going to cover your stomach with something to be on the safe side. You have a concussion and they want to keep you overnight to monitor you.
When that’s dealt with the OBGYN on duty is sent in to check you out. You’re not far along, only seven weeks, and you wonder how you missed it. The doctor assures you that it’s normal, and then asks if you want to hear the baby’s heartbeat. Once again, Mike leaves it up to you, and you nod.
You grip Mike’s hand as you wait in silence, and when you hear it, a rush of relief leaves you, and you feel a few tears fall. Mike wipes them away and places a kiss on your forehead. You’re cleaned up, and a few minutes later the room is open to visitors.
Sonny comes in literally seconds later, carrying pizza and cannoli. “I brought food, and managed to convince my mother to not come up and see you. She is, however, lighting a candle for you. Whether it’s for you feeling better or us getting together, I don’t know.”
You watch Mike’s jaw clench from the corner of your eye. Sonny doesn’t know about you and Mike, and it’s a long standing joke between the two of you since he’s hopelessly in love with Barba, and usually Mike doesn’t mind, but you can tell he’s feeling a little protective. You find that a hostage and surprise daddy-hood will do that to a man.
“Thanks Sonny.”
“No problem. The lieu is asking for you by the way, Sarge. She’s just down the hall, 308. Tucker, the Chief, and Finn were in there too.”
Reluctantly, you watch Mike move out of the room, and once he’s gone Sonny closes the door and turns to you, “I can’t believe you didn’t tell me.”
Of course he’s figured it out, “Does anyone else know?”
“Naw. Everyone knows you two are close, I just know the two of you better than they do. And the mom jokes have been wearing on him lately. So, how long have you two been . . . ?”
“Six months.”
He hands you a slice of pizza, “You going to disclose?”
“Kind of have to.”
“Have to?”
You swallow your bite of pizza, “I’m pregnant. Seven weeks. And I’m only telling you, because you’re my best friend and you know everything.”
“I thought your parents were doctors. Didn’t they teach you about safe sex?” He teases.
“Yes. They did not, however, teach me about the allure of watching one’s partner box.”
He makes a face, “Too much information.”
You scoff, “I’ve listened to you go on and on about Barba and your secret dates, and him waiting for you after you took the bar, and much more sordid things. You can handle my PG 13 story.”
He pushes another slice on you, “Just eat, so my niece or nephew can grow properly.”
You’re released from the hospital the next day. Sonny is the one to drive you home and stay with you while Mike is forced into the precinct. He’s determined to get the disclosure paperwork in ASAP, and the paperwork in regards to the hostage situation is somewhat sorted on top of that.
When he finally gets home later that night, his tie and jacket are stuffed into his gym bag, and his sleeves are rolled up. He collapses on the sofa next to you while Sonny just watches in amusement. “Paperwork in?”
Mike allows his body to fall so that his head lands in your lap and he’s staring at Sonny, “It’s in. I was told it might take a few months to end up on my father’s desk though, since it has to go through HR.”
It doesn’t take a few months for it to land on his father’s desk. In fact, news of your relationship spreads like wildfire through the department. It results in teasing from Finn and Rollins, a sit down/ serious conversation with Liv, and stares from others in the precinct. You make it a habit to keep things strictly professional in the workplace, all while keeping your baby a secret.
Mike’s dad blows into the office, two weeks after the paperwork is filed. His face is red with anger and he locks onto you the moment he storms through the doorway. Mike catches him before he reaches you. There’s a whispered, “Not here,” before Dodds senior is whisked away into one of the conference rooms.
You do your best to ignore it, but you can still hear snippets; accusations of you sleeping your way to a better job, accusations of you using Mike, accusation after accusation, and it has your eyes prickling with tears. Damn pregnancy hormones.
Barba comes in half way through the tirade, where the entire department is watching the father/son duo duke it out, and settles next to you. He offers you a handkerchief, and you just know that his boyfriend told him what’s going on.
That’s when Liv notices and scoots over to you, “Why don’t you take the rest of the day off?”
You’re just about to respond when you hear Mike shout out, “Cause I love her dad. We’re having a baby!”
Your face burns as Liv’s jaw drops open. You grab your stuff and you bolt. You’re later told by Sonny that Dodds senior actually collapses into a chair at the news.
You make it back to the apartment, fully exhausted, and climb into bed. Maybe if you hide under the covers long enough, the embarrassment of today will fade away? You groan into your pillow. Eventually, you fall asleep.
You wake up when the bed shifts. You’re more than a little cranky when you pull the covers back to look at your boyfriend. He moves in for a kiss and you dodge it, and glare, “Red.”
He sighs and nods, “I’m sorry.”
You sit up, “That never should have happened in the precinct, Mike. I’m . . . I don’t even have words for how humiliated I am. And I can’t believe you told him about the baby. . . I’m not even out of the first trimester.”
“I’m sorry, I just . . . I got so mad. He kept talking about how everything we wanted could be ruined by this, that there were other girls out there, and just a bunch of bad stuff. And as I stood there listening, something just clicked. If I let him, he’d run the rest of my life. He’d pick out who I was supposed to marry, tell me the appropriate number of kids to have . . . and I just snapped. I said literally everything that’s been on my mind for years.”
Your lips twitch, “Feel good?”
“So, good.”
You wait a second before you say, “Yellow.”
He smiles and moves to take your hands, “It took me a while but I finally stood up to him. It just took him threatening what I love most.”
“Better late than never. Thank you for defending our honor. That being said, if I see your father again before this day is a distant memory, I will scratch his eyes out.”
Mike sighs, “That might be difficult.”
“Why?”
“He’s outside the front door. He heard the word baby, and I swear the man started making plans.”
You groan, “We’re going to have to go into WITSEC, or kill him. I don’t think there’s any middle ground.”
Mike places a kiss on your temple, “What do you want to do?”
“Send him away. I really, I just . . . I can’t deal with him right now Mike.”
He doesn’t hesitate, “Okay.”
He’s gone for only a few minutes before he returns. You make room for him to cuddle up beside you and he does just. You take the position of big spoon, and wrap around him like a boa constrictor and say, “Green.”  He just smiles.
You are put on desk duty the next day, which you feel is a little unfair. Rollins was nearly six months along before she had to stay behind a desk. Apparently, carrying the chief’s grandkid meant different rules.
Three months later, you’re still successfully dodging the chief, and you’re starting to show. You’re trying to button your pants, but it’s not happening. Mike, who has officially moved in, is watching from the bed, “We need to get you some maternity clothes. We can go this weekend.”
You look at him in the mirror and then down at your protruding belly. You poke it once, and sigh,”That doesn’t solve the problem of what I’m going to wear today.”
“Wear the blue dress. You’re not carrying a sidearm, so it shouldn’t be a problem.”
“It doesn’t fit over my boobs anymore.”
His gaze flickers to your chest and then you see a small grin, “Yeah, I can understand that. Do you have a skirt that would fit? You could pair it with one of my dress shirts, and then we could stop by a store tonight?”
You swoop down and place a kiss on his lips, “That works.”
You find a skirt with enough stretch, and tuck Mike’s dress shirt into it. It’s a little baggy, but not overly so. You slip on some flats and you head out the door together. Mike’s only dropping you off at the precinct, he’s headed upstate to visit Gregory Yates while you have another fascinating day of paperwork ahead of you.
You kiss him goodbye right as Liv steps out of the precinct, she shoots you a smile and jokes, “I don’t have to kiss him when I get in, do I?”
“Nope. I don’t share.”
She laughs and they’re gone a minute later. You get a few more stares than usual as you walk through the precinct. Your bump is on display instead of hidden under previously baggy shirts. Finn lets out a whistle when you walk in, “You sure you’re not having twins.”
Rollins punches his arm for you, while Sonny stops just to the side and stares, “Is the baby kicking yet?”
“I feel flutters, but no one else has been able to feel anything.”
“By no one, you mean Mike?”
“Well he is the father.”
He crosses his arms, “Let me try.”
You sit down at your desk, “No. This is important to Mike, and I don’t really like anyone touching me but him right now.”
He pouts a little bit, and you say, “Once it’s more common I’ll let you feel. I promise.” That’s all it takes for him to be smiling Sonny again.
It’s nearly lunchtime when you get the call; Yates and Rudnick have escaped. It’s all hands on deck, well all hands except you. You’re left behind to coordinate things in the precinct and pass on information; which is why you’re completely alone when Dodds Senior enters the precinct.
He locks onto you, and approaches carefully. He stops just a few feet away, and you stand up from your desk. His eyes go to you bump, and he asks, “Do you have any updates for me detective?”
“Rudnick has been located, detective Carisi is speaking with him, and teams have been dispatched.”
“Chicago PD?”
“Has joined the teams. One detective is with Sonny and Rollins, and the other is with Mike.”
He sighs, “With any luck we’ll get Yates too.”
“Yes sir.”
He nods, and his hands go to his hips, “How have you been detective?”
“Fine sir.”
“And the baby?”
Your hand goes to rest on your bump protectively, and you debate telling him anything, “Good as well, sir. We got to see them on our last visit.”
His eyes widen slightly, “Do you know what it is?”
“We have it written on a sheet of paper. We haven’t looked yet.”
“Not curious?”
“Of course, but Mike and I have a bet going on in regards to the name. We settled on a first name in each case, but the middle name was bugging us. So we made a deal, whoever looks first loses, and the winner gets to decide the middle name.”
“And if neither of you look?”
“Barba gets to decide.”
His brow furrows, “The DA?”
“Yeah. I had a crying fit early on, and he got me like a dozen muffins to make me feel better, in all the different flavors I wanted. That qualifies him for sainthood.”
“I see. And your parents? How do they feel about being grandparents?”
“They don’t know.”
“They don’t?”
“No. You see they’re surgeons, so are my siblings. Which means if my parents or siblings find out, then the rest of the hospital finds out, and all of a sudden my OB is being bothered at all hours of the night, and I’m getting texts about totally private things.”
His lips twitch, “When do you plan on telling them?”
“When I’m in labor, and not partway through either, most of the way through. That way, they hopefully won’t get here when I’m in labor.”
“Your family dynamic is rather complicated, isn’t?”
“I’m the youngest of four. I was adopted when I was only a few days old. I was abandoned at the hospital, and my mom said she just knew I was meant to be theirs, she says I’ve been surprising them ever since. So, in all actuality, I’m pretty much on brand.”
He smiles, “Well. I hope to meet them one day.”
“I’m sure you will. This will be the first grandkid.”
“You siblings don’t have any children?”
“Not yet. My oldest sister is in the middle of her second specialty fellowship, and the other two are finishing up residency.”
Dodds senior has just opened his mouth to ask another question, when the phone rings. On the other end is Benson, and what she has to say makes your blood run cold. You hang, and grab the chief’s arm, “Mike’s been shot. We need to go.” You don’t need to say anything else. His speed picks up, and he reverses the hold you have on him, so that he has an arm wrapped around your shoulders as he leads you to his car.
The ride is filled with worry, made only worse by the hormones running through your body. You reach the hospital, white as a sheet, and you’re on the verge of name dropping when a doctor comes out to see you. He leads you to the back where Mike is. It’s a through and through shot that will require some PT and time off, but he’s okay.
His eyes are a little blurry, a clear sign of pain medication, but he holds his hand out to you and you take it. You swoop down to place a kiss on his brow, “You scared the crap out of me Mike.”
“Hhm, Sorry honey.”
You growl a bit, “That Chicago detective is lucky I’m not hunting her down right now.”
He tugs you down next to him, “It’s not her fault.”
You don’t believe that for a second. His hand settles on your lower back, “Hey dad. Didn’t expect to see you here so soon.”
“I was with Y/N when the call came in.”
He raises an eyebrow, “You two were together? Without supervision?” He focuses on his dad, “And she didn’t kill you?”
Dodds senior hesitates and you say, “We’re working on things. Today was a good start.”
He lets out a sigh of relief, “Thank God.” He focuses on you again, “I’m sorry we couldn’t go shopping today.”
His dad perks up, “Shopping for baby things? I can always help with that. I can help put stuff together too.”
Your lips quirk, “Maternity clothes. Nothing fits except yoga pants, and if you let me wear those to work I think that would be blatant favoritism.”
“Oh.”
“But we do need to start getting stuff for the nursery. Get all the office stuff into storage.”
He nods, “I can do that. I know people!” And before you know it he’s off making plans and calling people. You look down at Mike, “He’s a little bit of a control freak, ain’t he?”
Mike scoffs, “That’s down playing it big time.”
The remaining months of your pregnancy are spent getting things ready for the baby. Dodds senior becomes somewhat of a fixture in your apartment. He and Mike assemble furniture together, and you can see where he’s trying to let Mike make his own choices. When he suggest counter terrorism and Mike turns it down, he doesn’t bring it up again.
Your baby shower happens in your eighth month, right as the Munson case hits the news. You’re in the elevator with Barba when he’s threatened, and you’re more than a little touched when he steps in front of you. You spend the time memorizing the bastard’s face, and then you chew Barba out for not telling anyone about the threats. Sonny is especially upset with his boyfriend.
He’s in the middle of chewing him out when you get the call from senior, “Mike’s in a hostage situation, get here ASAP.”
Rollins drives you. You arrive and William is there to intercept you, you’re just about to ask what the hell happened when you hear the gun go off, and a chill runs down your spine. You can feel time slow down, and then you hear the call, “Officer down!”
You feel the bile rise as you push into the house, and see Mike bleeding on the floor, with William using his jacket to try and stop it.  You glare at Munsen who’s now in handcuffs, but you can’t do anything. You just watch in horror as the blood pours through.
You can faintly hear William call your name, but it takes you a few seconds to focus. “Am I riding or you?”
“You.” The response comes before you can stop it. They’re gone a second later, and you feel an arm wrap around you. You look up at Rollins, and she gives you a sad smile, before leading you towards the car.
Once in, you take out your phone and find the contact. It rings twice before she answers: “Hello?”
You can’t hold back the sob in your voice, “Mom, I need you.”
The hospital is a flurry of activity when you arrive, officers line the walls, and William is at the center with Olivia. He goes to you immediately, asking if you need anything. You shake your head as a doctor approaches. He looks scared shitless, and you know he’s talked to your mother, “Detective Grey?” You nod, and he swallows visibly, “I’m Leon Richards, the hospital administrator. I just talked with your mother, Dr. Grey, she’s assigned someone from Grey-Sloan Memorial to observe the surgery while she and your father fly in.”
Your throat is dry, “Thank you.”
“Please let us know if you need anything.” You say nothing else as he walks away. The name Meredith Grey carries a lot of weight in the medical world. And you can’t help the burst of laughter, because you had warned Mike against using his father’s name, and here you were using your mothers. Everyone looks at you like you’re crazy, but you suppose that’s allowed because no one says anything.
It takes several hours before your mother and father arrive. You study them as they walk towards you. Your father’s face is slightly wrinkled. Your mother keeps her hair dyed, and she looks incredibly good for her age. She takes one look at you, and your protruding belly, and pulls you into a hug, “You are so my child.”
She passes you to your dad next. He whispers words of comfort in your ear as your mother stomps off in search of who’s in charge. “She had Bailey and Jo observe the surgery. They were sending her updates through the whole thing. No doubt she wants to go in and make sure they didn’t botch anything up.”
You take another shuddering breath, “I don’t know what I’ll do if. . .”
“Don’t go there love. Don’t let yourself go there.”
You sigh, “How can I not, I mean look at you and mom . . . you lost Abby and mom lost Derek, and now. . . now I might lose Mike.”
Your father doesn’t say anything. He knows tragedy like the back of his hand, and he knows Meredith does too. They’ve both been in this situation; the potential loss of losing their person. And he has no doubt Mike is your person. While you may not have told them about their impending grandparent status you had told them all about Mike, and the boy had even joined you on zoom calls. Cormac had liked the young man, he had fit in well. He had taken the teasing from Liam and Austin well, he’d talked sports with Bailey, and had handled Zola’s interrogation well, and he had managed to make Ellis laugh. He was good people.
“Tell me about your pregnancy. About my grandchild. Your brothers and sisters are going to flip when they find out you kept this a secret.”
Your lips twitch, “You guys would have dragged me home and wrapped me in bubble wrap.”
“You’ll understand that feeling soon enough. The moment you hold that baby, you’ll understand the desire to protect it from every evil in the world. I felt it with Liam. I felt it with Austin. I felt it with Zola, Bailey, and Ellis when I met them. And I felt it with you the first time I saw you in the NICU.
“You were so tiny, but you were such a fighter. I remember your mother coming up to bug me for a consult down in the ER, and she just paused at the sight of you. We weren’t even dating then, you know? We just, each saw you, and felt that you were ours. Brought the kids up and they agreed.”
“And now, here you are nearly thirty years later.”
He nods, “No matter how this ends, you’ll survive. You’ll go on for your little one.”
Your hand cradles your bump as a kick comes through. There’s a shout of your name and you lean forward to see your mom. She’s dressed in scrubs, with the ferry boat scrub cap on. All she says is, “I’m going in. I’ll see you on the other side.” And then she’s gone.
It’s another two hours before you see her again. And in that time your dad forces you to eat, drink some water, and walk around. When your mom appears again, she has a small army of doctors shuffling behind her, and looking at her in awe. You motion for William to join you.
She smiles, “He’s stable. He’s in the recovery room right now, when he’s moved to his ICU room you can see him.”
You throw your arms around her as tight as they’ll go, and she hugs back. When you pull back you can feel the tears, and she’s quick to wipe them away. She pulls out her phone, “Okay, now stand where I can get your profile, so I can send a picture to the family and freak them out.”
You do as she asks, before you settle in for a lecture on hiding a pregnancy. You listen to her rant and when she sees you not taking it seriously, she asks, “Why are you smiling?”
“Because both you and your mother hid a pregnancy. Technically, I’m just following family tradition.”
She looks at your dad, “Cormac.”
He shrugs, “She’s stubborn, like you love. We knew that when she insisted she never needed training wheels on her bike, we knew that when she didn’t cry for use to stay when we dropped her off at kindergarten, we knew that when she decided to be a cop instead of a doctor.”
Your mother’s lips twitch, but before she can say anything a nurse comes out to tell her that Mike’s been moved back to ICU. She leads you and William back, and your dad tags along as well.
Mike looks incredibly pale and your mother assures you that’s from the blood loss, and they have a transfusion going on still. “It’ll still be a while before he wakes up.”
The four of you settle in. Your mom doesn’t say much, she continually checks on Mike, and your father examines his chart.
When his eyes do open, you can sense something’s wrong. It’s not just the anesthesia, something is wrong you can feel it in your gut. When he gets some things confused you look towards your mom and dad who are studying you. When you shake your head, something isn’t right, they both pounce.
Your mother starts a neurological exam while your dad gets your aunt Ameila on the phone. She’s put on speaker a moment later and she starts listing out tests, while your mother responds with what she sees. It takes three before Ameila barks to get him back into surgery, it’s an aneurysm. Your dad pushes the code blue button, and doctors and nurses come running.
They’re both barking out orders, and you’re a little surprised when your dad heads back towards the operating room too, and you’re once again left to wait. You pace this time, non stop, and you can feel senior’s eyes on you the entire time.
It’s a few hours later when your dad comes out. Your breath stills in your lungs, and you know it’s not good. His voice is serious, “He’s alive. The neuro surgeon did an excellent job, your aunt Ameila observed from Seattle. She’s going to fly out as soon as she can. However there was bleeding on the brain. They’ve put him into a medically induced coma to heal. We won’t know the extent of the damage, or if there even is any damage until we feel confident about bringing him out of it. And there’s always a chance things could get worse.”
The words wash over you, and then there’s this blinding pain in your belly. You nearly go to the floor and you hear your father yelling for help, and then everything goes blissfully dark.
You wake up in a hospital bed, and find your mom next to you. “Your blood pressure is through the roof. It sent you and the baby into distress.”
“Mike?”
“He’s hanging in there.” She adjusts so she’s sitting on the side of your bed, “You have to go on bed rest though. Your dad and I took some time off work, we’re going to stay with you.”
You don’t protest, you just lean into her hand when she cups your cheek, and you try not to cry.
Bed rest isn’t fun. It’s you sitting on the couch, with either your mother or your father watching over you. Whichever one isn’t there, is at the hospital, because they’re workaholics, and no hospital is going to say no to Meredith Grey or Cormac Hayes doing surgeries or consultations.
Your Aunt Amelia arrives, and it’s through zoom that you watch her examine Mike. Her prognosis is good, but she won’t know for certain until he wakes up, and she’s not comfortable waking him up just yet. She stops by your apartment for a hug, and to feel the baby kick and then she’s on the next flight out. She’s not a fan of New York. Too many bad memories, she says.
You go into labor nearly two weeks into bedrest. The baby will still be early, but not terribly so. Your father figures he or she will spend a week in the NICU at most. Your parents take turns coaching you through labor, but you draw the line at either of them delivering the baby. Instead your poor OB is subjected to their stares of death each time you cry out in pain. Then again, that’s your fault, you refused the epidural.
It takes fourteen hours of labor to bring your baby into the world, and during that time your get to hear both of your mother’s birth stories. They don’t help things. But the moment you hear your son cry you forget all about it, because your dad was right; all you want to do is wrap him in your arms and protect him from all the bad things in the world.
You get to hold him briefly, before your dad whisks him away to the NICU to make sure he’s okay while your mom stays with you. She places a kiss on your sweaty forehead and tells you just how proud of you she is.
You’re kept overnight for observation before you’re sent home. And it’s at that point that you begin to live at the hospital. You go back and forth between the baby you haven’t named and the boyfriend who’s unconscious. You tell each of them about the other. You’re constantly exhausted.
Eventually, your mom and dad have to head back to Seattle, but to your pleasant surprise Zola flies out in their stead. You and Zo had always been close; partly because of the adoption thing and partly because the two of you had just always clicked.
The two of you stare down at your son and she says, “I can’t believe you grew a human being from scratch.”
“Tell me about it.”
There’s a moment of silence before she says, “Before long, Mike can be here with you.”
You look at her and she shrugs, “Neuro fellow, remember?”
You grin, because just like her dad and aunt Amelia, she’s absolutely brilliant in the field. You know she’s gotten offers from all the big hospitals, including Grey Sloan.
“I was thinking about taking a job here, after my fellowship is done.”
“Yeah?”
“Yeah. Making sure you and Mike stay out of trouble, and being able to see my favorite nephew whenever I want are pretty appealing draws. By the way, my nephew needs a name other than baby boy.”
“I know. But we have time. And Mike has already missed so much, I don’t want him to miss that too.”
“Fair enough.”
Turns out, your brilliant sister is right. Mike is brought out of his coma three days later. By that time his incisions are looking great, and you figure he’ll be in a lot less pain than when he initially woke up.
You watch from the corner of the room as Zola is allowed to do the exam under a local doctor’s watchful eye. She beams at the end, “You got lucky Mike. Your tests and scans show no brain damage. You should thank Y/N for catching the signs.”
There are tears in his eyes, and his voice is rough from having been on a vent at the beginning of this mess, “Hey you.”
You take a few hesitant steps towards him, before squatting down next to him. He lifts his hand to run his fingers through your hair, “God, you look amazing.”
“I had a baby a week ago, I’ve gotten no sleep, and I’ve been living in this freaking hospital. Don’t you ever do this to me again Mike. I mean it, I can’t lose you, do you hear me?”
He wipes the tears from your face, “Kiss me honey.”
You oblige him, and when you pull back he asks, “How’s our boy?”
“He’s amazing. They say he can leave the NICU tomorrow and . . . and you looked!”
He smiles, “Like two days after we got the results. That means you win middle name rights.”
Zola leans forward, “So we can finally stop calling him baby boy, and start calling him . . .?”
You smile, “Aaron Richard Dodds.”
Zola smiles, “After grandpa?”
“Yeah. After grandpa.”
Meredith Gray looks at the picture her oldest daughter just sent her. You’re back in the apartment, in the bedroom, with Mike. You’re cuddled into his side while Aaron lays on his father’s chest. She needs to get it framed.
“They made a pretty baby, love.”
She looks back at her husband, “She’s our daughter, of course she made a pretty baby. Mike just made it even better.”
Bailey leans over her shoulder to look, “He is a pretty man, isn’t he?”
Meredith laughs, and Cormac rolls his eyes. A trip for the entire family to fly out and meet Aaron and Mike is already in the works. She can’t wait to hold her grandbaby again. She waits until Bailey leaves the room before she turns to Cormac, “I’m so relieved, she didn’t have to go through. . . what we went through.”
“Same love.” There’s another moment of silence before he asks, “You ever think about moving out that way? Liam is at a hospital in Chicago now, and Austin is at one in Connecticut, and Zola . . . well we know she’s going out there.”
She shrugs, “Maybe. I want to see what Bailey and Ellis decide. Bailey has his boards coming up and Ellis is only a year or so away from them herself.”
“But maybe . . .maybe it’s time for a change.”
He pulls her to him and kisses her gently, “Just say the word, and I’ll follow you to the ends of the world Doctor Grey.”

Update on Characters I write for:
Recently, I’ve gotten attached to even more characters, so I updated the lists on my Pinned Post. Nonetheless, I wanted to make this separate post to make y’all more aware of it. Please also note that I’m currently rather slow at fulfilling requests, due to health issues. So, please be patient with me when you request something, or have been waiting for the past month already, now. I assure you that as long as you don’t see me outright declining your request after a week (max.) of receiving it, I’m writing and uploading it within the next couple of weeks or months, depending on my health and such.
David Dastmalchian characters:
Abner Krill/Polka-Dot Man* (The Suicide Squad)
Abra Kadabra (The Flash)
Bob Taylor (Prisoners)
Kurt Goreshter (Ant-Man)
Lonny Crane (The Belko Experiment)
Murdoc (MacGyver)
Thomas Schiff (The Dark Knight)
Law and Order: Special Victims Unit characters:
Detective/ADA Dominick “Sonny” Carisi, Jr.
Sergeant Michael “Mike” Dodds
Detective Nicholas “Nick” Amaro
ADA Peter Stone
Deputy Chief William Dodds
Slashers:
Herbert West*
Ships:
Herbert West x Daniel “Dan” Cain
* The characters with an asterisk are ONLY available for (Trans) Male Reader.
At the moment, I’d be more inclined to fulfil requests for Headcanon Posts faster than fully fledged Fanfictions, since HC’s take up less energy for me.
Still, as always, I’m doing my very best to write everything as soon as possible!
AND PLEASE, be sure to read my PINNED POST (linked at the top) BEFORE you request anything at all, thank you!
