I admit I personally prefer showing characters interact with each other and allowing their interaction to be interpreted as either romantic, platonic, or even nothing at all.

I think this approach makes relationships less framed by "signpost cues" of friendship/attraction/love (not that I do not enjoy seeing these either). I think it leaves more room for interesting human interactions, independent of what expectations the reader has for the two characters. Some people seem to search for actions like kissing, hugging, confessions, in order to confirm whether something was supposed to be romantic or not. But then, the absence of such cues make them arrive at conclusions that ignore other forms of relationship-building interactions all together :(

So for me, it's Schroedinger's character relationships, with a generous amount of "the true value of this relationship is the collection of interactions we have made along the way" and it doesn't need a name. So with that out of the way:

i like the mostly fanon angst of bruce being a bad, or at least emotionally distant, mentor during tim's earlier robin years... but i think we're missing on the potential angst of the canon way bruce started as a careful, helicopter parent mentor to this gremlin that choose him, how they bonded over their shared grief and loneliness and mirror-narratives, until a number of tragedies (clench, no man's land, knightfall, later even red hood) pulls them apart, as bruce becomes bitter and paranoid and distant (tim's "birthday gift"), and tim has to deal with the weight of he as robin not being enough to keep bruce from darkness

like, when he goes in the brucequest, is he filled with doubts? does he ever ponders if bruce being away is better? when he brings bruce back, and sees him closer to what he was in the beginning of his partnership, but he is no longer his partner, and they no longer talk as they did....

and then damian dies and there he goes again, bruce's partner, bruce's crutch, does he ever looks in the mirror and sees bruce there?

i feel like i've said this before and i will say it again but every time i do this specific ask game i love trying to figure out the songs people use and if i know them and i absolutely love this song (one of my top obikin songs tbh)

this makes me think of a same age au where obi-wan goes to the agricorps and anakin becomes a jedi padawan and then a knight, and their paths cross a few times a year once they're all grown up. obi-wan is tapped to go to the temple every summer season to give them updates on the agricorps and every time they meet, they fuck and it's like...almost a committed relationship in anakin's mind because he's not sleeping with anyone else but who knows what (and who) obi-wan is doing in the agricorps. they don't talk about it.

they don't hate each other or anything, it's not hate sex---it's really good sex and they have a pretty good time whenever they see each other, but it's always brief. and obi-wan always leaves after a few days at most. and he always makes leaving look so easy, as if he really does just view anakin as a casual fun thing

aayla is the only one who knows about it and she is of the opinion that anakin should stop it - it verges on the weirdest attachment she's ever seen, and even if obi-wan returned the intensity of anakin's feelings, he lives and works on a planet a three day flight from coruscant. even if they wanted to carry on a secret tryst, they can't. there's no future there that.

but then obi-wan comes to the temple with several large bags and informs anakin that he's being stationed on coruscant for the next year or so as he works with the coruscanti gardeners on designing a new tranche of green spaces for the city.

and that means that anakin has a year to convince obi-wan that they should fall in love.

WIP Game - Road Trip AU

Next up, we have 36 sentences of Road Trip AU! As they near the end of their journey, Mav finally broaches a... certain question. He's not going to be happy with the answer. :DDD

“So,” Mav says, maybe an hour out from North Island. He’s fiddling with the ibuprofen bottle absently, the little click click click of the child-safe lid providing an off-tempo accompaniment to the Grateful Dead song playing low over the radio and the low grind of driving over pavement. “You haven’t told me what you’re pulling me for yet. You gonna do that, or do I get to be surprised when I get there?”

Ice glances over at Mav, the casual sprawl he’s managed to achieve despite an absurd amount of deep bruising and a seatbelt. He turns back to the road and thinks about it.

“I don’t have all the details they’re going to be sharing at the briefing, obviously,” he warns.

Mav snorts. “Oh come on. This has your fingerprints all over it.”

Ice smiles. “I… strongly recommended you for the position,” he allows.

“So?”

Ice hums. In front of them, the evening traffic crawls forward. “You’re not going to like this one,” he admits.

“Oh, I figured,” Mav admits. He holds up his phone, waves it so Ice can see him do it in his peripheral. “Orders are Top Gun. I assume there’s a mission people are being trained for, and I’m going to be on it.”

“Why do you think you’ll be on it?” Ice asks, very easily. “Your orders say Top Gun.”

“I assume if you picked me specifically, you don’t think I need much training,” Mav drawls.

“There are other reasons you could be going to Top Gun,” Ice points out, and Mav—

Stills.

“Ice,” he says, very carefully. “Please tell me you’re not implying what I think you’re implying.”

Ice doesn’t take that bait. “What I can tell you now,” he says, “is that there’s a Uranium plant that’ll be fully in operation in about three weeks, and the US Navy in its infinite wisdom has decided that this plant should not be in operation. I’d give you the reasons,” he adds, cutting a look to Mav, “but I know you don’t actually give a shit.”

Mav snorts, but otherwise lets him keep talking.

Ice continues. “It’s in a canyon at the end of a long, dry riverbed. There’s obviously steep rock face around the target, and a fucking mountain range around it. You’re going to get specifics of all of this when you get there—”

“I bet you have them already, though,” Mav interrupts.

Ice sighs. “Yeah,” he says. “Give me my phone.”

I wonder if at some point, Kakashi might have seriously considered leaving Konoha.

In the end, he is too loyal and too determined to protect the people he loves to truly abandon his home.

But I wonder if he toyed with the idea. In the middle of the night, back slick with sweat after yet another nightmare.

He thinks of how Konoha destroyed his father, thrust Obito into a war he wasn’t ready for, instilled in Rin ideals that led her to believe killing herself was justified because it was in the best interests of the village. He thinks of Minato and Kushina slaughtered before their baby ever got to know them.

He wonders if maybe he’d be better off striking the Leaf symbol from his hitai-ate, leaving behind the strict shinobi code in favor of his own. A code which embraces the grey, prioritizes empathy.

Maybe he even toys with it a little, sneaks out of the village when he’s not on mission to see how long he can get away with before he’s missed; before a hawk circles above his hiding place to call him home.

Like when you’re a kid and you hop out your window, wander down the road or into the woods to a secret spot only you know. Just to test it out. Like “running away” just for a little while might fix whatever is broken.

You always go home, in the end. And so does Kakashi.

Because he would never forgive himself if he truly abandoned his post; the way Sakumo abandoned his son or Rin abandoned her surviving teammate.

I wonder if when Sasuke defects from his home in pursuit of Orochimaru—of power—Kakashi understands a little more than most because he’s considered the same path.

Weighed the price of leaving against the one he has already paid to stay.

seeing too much randomly announced dislike for jovier on tweeeeter and im wondering where the hell the likers even came from i thought it was gonna be just me and my delusions before........ although i dont ship them as bad now i still think its more of the potential for the narrative since they're stated foils but in ways are also one and the same and the game implies more than it shows and javier is just badly executed as a character that i think i can make something of delusions since i have spent a while just staring at and finding dialogue cut or the ones ingame in both games

only bad thing about being in a fandom where one of the characters canonically has wings is the painful lack of classic wingfic. where is my everything's the same but people have bird wings watford au where one day baz notices simon hasn't been grooming his wings bc of an injury to his ribs so he sits on his bed and makes a whole fuss about how "i'm not doing this to be nice, snow, your wings are just a travesty to look at" and then proceeds to carefully and lovingly tidy his feathers in drawn out silence while they both pretend grooming someone else's wings isn't one of the most intimate things you can do for another person. will this heartbreak never end
