Love seeing Sasha Calle's former "Young and Restless" co-stars being so supportive of her and going with her to see a screening of "The Flash" movie on Instagram!!! :D She got cast when she was still on the soap and had to leave to do it and it's so nice to see them all still are close friends. Do miss her "Y&R" character Lola but I'm so excited to see her as Supergirl too. Also fun connection to her co-star Michael Keaton here too as in his movie "Mr. Mom" that soap was the one his character got invested in watching, especially the storyline with Victor trying to find out if Nikki's baby Victoria was really his daughter and it was. All 3 characters are still on there and Sasha's character had scenes with them too.

Movie Review | Mr. Mom (Dragoti, 1983)

Given the 1983 release date, I was hoping that this would have a bit of grit or edge to it. Knocking back some beers, dropping a few swears, flipping people off, he’s Mr. Mom, man. 

Yeah, I don’t know where I got that idea because this is pretty milquetoast when it isn’t being overly cartoony. I guess there are limits to how edgy a movie about a guy who stays at home all day to look after his kids can be, but imagine if like Eddie Murphy had played Mr. Mom during this era. He definitely would have dropped a few swears. Unless he went all Golden Child, in which case, this would have been a snoozefest. I think Michael Keaton is a little too nice here, and between this and finding him pretty whatever as Batman, I have to concede that he’s not my guy. 

Anyway, this is diverting enough. Whatever my qualms with Keaton, he and Teri Garr do what’s asked of them pretty well, and Keaton gets to kick a little ass when he tells off and later punches out Jeffrey Tambor. (He’s Mr. Mom, man.) There are also hints of racier material when the possibilities of extramarital affairs present themselves, but the protagonists are too fundamentally good to be seriously tempted. And while things reset at the end, the movie is less reactionary than you’d expect when exploring the relationship between gender roles and the workplace.

Remembering Victor J. Kemper 1927-2023

Cinematographer Victor J. Kemper has died at 96. He was a cinematographer on numerous films notably comedies. One of my favorites of his was Sidney Lumet's Dog Day Afternoon. That claustrophobia of the bank as Al Pacino is holding everyone hostage and the pressure building was enhanced by Kemper's work.

My other favorite of his was Tim Burton's debut Pee-wee's Big Adventure. I just caught a special screening of this at the Somerville Theatre over the weekend and it is such a visual film that is injecting absurdity to a wacky comedy about a man-child searching for his bike. One of my favorites!

Other notable films he photographed include Slap Shot, The Jerk, Author! Author!, Mr. Mom, National Lampoon's Vacation, Cloak & Dagger, and Tommy Boy. That's quite a filmography!

The story moves on. There's still more to go. It doesn't end with the new prince's birth. There's still matters that need to be settled and Johnny still needs to hide from the King. But events are moving to a head. Will things go well for the Princess or will she fail?

This book is available on Amazon both in Kindle and paperback. I am aware that letting people sample the whole book before they buy isn't the best way to advertise, but it's all I got. Earning money for my work is purely for practical reasons, I write and create other things purely for the love of it. I do what I do for free all the time. No thoughts about profit. Then I see how well I've done and then I think about sales. I'm aware that my book still needs some work, you don't need to point that out because I've been made aware of it and I'm grateful for it. So, just read the book, make comments. I hope I earn some honest feedback. And yeah, I can use the money of you buy the book. I don't earn very much per purchase, but it's nice to see that someone like the book enough to want to keep it for themselves.

As far as feedback goes, don't tell me what you believe I'd want to hear. Be honest. I do care about what you really think about my story. So long as you don't troll me, it's fine. Even if you hate the story in the end. Tell me why. Or why you loved it...or thought something along the lines of "meh." I take honest constructive criticism really well.
