I’ve seen some discourse over how WOE is an aggressive format and people are upset by that. My stance is: yea, it is. You need to be on the board, or at least able to address it, by turn two.

(At least at Platinum, metas shift in the rankings in my experience.)

But that doesn’t mean it’s a bad format! These games have been sick. All of my trophies have been 7-2’s- I’ve had to play really tight to get them. There are a lot of really interesting decision points you have to make in game (where do I put my roles, should I play this as an adventure or just as the creature, should I crack my food or save it for a bargain later, etc.) Will I feel this way in a few months? Who knows. But I think, with the way the format is built for multicolor shenanigans and weird build arounds, WOE has some legs.

Cool thing about art reference

Have you seen the official art for The Murderbot Diaries? It’s pretty great: dynamic and detailed action scenes, with really interesting poses. Like so:

Well I just happened upon an article by Tommy Arnold (the artist) that breaks down his process, and I am amazed to find that these detailed paintings started as poses with a couple buddies in his living room.

The various characters were sometimes posed together, sometimes separately, sometimes with creative camera angles and furniture/props to get things just right. 

Tommy’s the one lying on the floor here.

I won’t copy the whole article over, but it’s really cool. So simple, and so clever. He sketches out his original idea first, then gets reasonably close with the poses, and cobbles everything together in Photoshop to use as reference while he paints.

That was real people at one point. Some duplicates, even.

And I am particularly amused to find that Ratthi’s poofy hair was copied directly from the artist’s good buddy Micah Epstein -- a fellow illustrator who’s done his own big-name book art and some Magic the Gathering cards.

Ratthi drew Fiery Confluence, among other things. Awesome.

The Magic the Gathering event today proved to be SO expensive for me 🤣 £85 spent to get a bundle box And entry to pre release BUT got myself ALOT of good stuff I wanted/needed 😍

Absolutely tired now and so skint but a entertaining night for sure...

But Balder's gate 3 Early Access on PS5 starts tommrow 😍

The theming of Wilds of Eldraine is insanely fun. I was like "ok this will be fun but kind of goofy" and like, ok it is but also I love it WAY more than I thought I would, all of the candy themed horrors and Syr Ginger absolutely delight me.

The FLGS by my house didn't get their prerelease stock in, which like... Can't imagine how much that sucks for them, but the small place that I often play at farther out of town had stock so my prerelease went off without a hitch. Just means that it'll take me longer than usual to get the specific cards I want when I buy singles (which I should be doing anyway, I buy for art, not rarity, so it makes the most for me to just buy the singles and not packs, even though by god opening packs is fun), since I tend to buy them at my nearby FLGS since it's so close.

Anyway, the candy horrors are so cute it genuinely makes me want to run a loosely candy-horror themed black deck (commander?).

Magic the gathering at the round table changed my effin life and I’m just not sorry about it. Big upgrade from the floor. (Katya and I as the “cookie guy” from the cart photos also seen.) I worry about being the annoyijg biych who posts about how I smoke weed but it’s like no I’m literally not it’s just funny…that being said I miss acoustic weed like cart is so fucking ratty but it’s all we have in the effin trenches. I miss being bong queen teen boy who listens to doom metal and smokes weed. RIP SUSAN!! We miss you so much but our reunion will be sweeeeet! I also went to downers grove and didn’t even find emo like babe where are you let’s link. IM DOING ANNOYANCE NEXT WEEK AND IM SO EXCITED😝😝I’ve taken two weeks off but I have been being productive in other ways so I do not feel guilty. I’m baby girling geddy lee too much but it is okay. I feel very calm lately and happy ans I hope it stays like this ⚧️🪲❤️‍🔥🌠

Yesterday I went to the dominaria prerelease event 😚 it was my first mtg event like that, it was surprisingly fun! We left early though after just one match since it was late at night, and my opponent was really nice I didn't want the experience spoiled lol. Even though I lost he gave me the win so I'd get a prize 🥺 which was so sweet.. 😭 but he was a lot of fun to play with which was a relief bc I was so nervous.

I got ajani in his normal card in my prerelease kit boosters 🤭 I love the stained glass window of the alternate arts in this set!!! We have quite a few now, I can't wait to add them to some decks!

To the event I wore the outfit on the left (pic is from a different day but this has been my go to outfit lately since it's cute and simple) (and bonus outfit on the right bc I think its cute and seen it in my photos just now lol)

It was very nice to go out and do something ;_; !! I'm also looking forward to next seasons set and next year they are releasing eldraine which I'm really hoping I can attend the prerelease for ♡

good morning here’s my perfect little guy who insisted on being snuggled IN my arms all night last night. it’s FRIDAY and I think I only have two meetings today—waiting on a prof to confirm or move a possible third. I will finish up a bunch of small work tasks but I give myself permission to spend much of the day getting the house/my life in order, esp since I have this four-hour choir retreat taking up a big chunk of tomorrow 🫠 to be ready for my 10am mtg I need to shower by 8:45 but can lounge and plan till then.

gonna list house chores by room so I can check them all off and feel smugly accomplished…

given the circumstances, it could be a lot worse i guess. anti depressants gone without now for 4 months, i don't miss them. being single is okay, pretty lonely but it's not when i have friends around. i'm thankful i have a good crew and so many friends of different closeness.

it was nice to play mtg with homies, love homies ;u; one out of two by silly circumstances. love greasefang fr.

went to the gig and had a nice time. i knew over half the people and was kind of the only one there who wasn't playing a set in the backyard in the rain. there was a cover for the bands tho at least. i smell like rain right now. when i came back from the bathroom they were waiting for me and sang a cute song just like repeating my name and singing it was so cute. a lot of overwhelming joy, lots of bounciness in my moves. made new friends, said hi a lot. i breakdown shyness with just chilling and like knowing the homies i'm chatting with are just trying to make friends and chill too.

i think i'll be okay.
