Little update because I’ve been a bit absent lately:

Yesterday I went to therapy with Molly. And Molly did amazing, even though she’s been struggling lately. As for me- Me and my therapist agreed that I need to be more intentional with my actions and try to be more motivated. We came up with a list of everything I can work on for the next two weeks until I see her again. Below is Mollys outfit for the day. (IDs/Alt text for photos AND videos have been provided by the lovely @sillygloworm ) overall it was a good visit, I’ve been a little depressed lately with everything happening in my life so having someone neutral to talk to was very nice.

Earlier in the day me and Molly played ball outside: I got her a new ball with little spikes on it! She loves it and had so much fun. She played until she was dead tired of course. She had so much fun outside and it was nice to be outside for a little while.

And finally we went to dinner at the Chinese restaurant. Restaurants have been a challenge for Molly since everyone at work has been feeding her because of course they think the rules don’t apply to them. She’s become a little bit of a begger. But last night she did really well. She just laid on the floor, she tried to give my dad puppy eyes but it didn’t work (thankfully!) even when a fake service dog came in the restaurant and started barking at her she kept her focus and we just left the situation. I was so proud of her last night!

Overall summer has been kicking me in the butt. I feel like I’m stuck in an endless loop of depressed thoughts. But with Molly by my side I know I’ll get through. And on the bright side- I applied for my next service dog and got accepted:) we’re aiming to get her in August! She’s going to be a standard poodle (I say she because we’re hoping for a girl but there’s a possibility I could end up with a boy). I couldn’t be more excited and anxious at the same time lol!

Introducing Scooby

Scooby is a 1 year old yellow Labrador Retriever with about one brain cell and a whole lot of enthusiasm!

Scooby came into my life as a started service dog in July of 2023, I had not planned to get a larger service dog for another couple of years but as my chronic pain got worse and the mobility aids I had stopped helping as much as they used to I realized I had to start looking for a prospect sooner than I had wanted. After looking at and meeting multiple other dogs a couple of friends sent me Scooby, and after meeting him his trainer said we would be a good fit!

He has been my best buddy ever since, we’ve had a lot of setbacks in his training but my priority for him was to let him be the puppy he didn’t get to be. He’s much sillier and happier now than when we first met and while he’s not even close to fully trained at almost 2 years old, he has much more enthusiasm for working and life in general

Service dog appreciation post

Molly, you will never know how much I appreciate you. You've guided me not only physically but mentally. You may be "just a dog" to some, but to me you are my lifeline. You aide me when my body can't, you keep my face from meeting the floor, you ground me when I'm out of control, you've been to many, many, many hospitals, heard so many diagnosises, seen so many tears, both good and bad, and you stick by my side no matter what. You've been with me through thick and thin, you're not "just a dog", you're far from just a pet, you are my partner. The day that I found your listing, I knew you were special - and the day that I met you, you proved me right. You passed every test, you bested your siblings in every way possible, you were always the one. Every time I cry, every time I reach for a hand, I get your paw. You've seen me stable, you've seen me unstable, but your view of me has never changed. Can you believe it's been almost a year since we met? Can you believe it's been almost a year since you started working this trialing job? Yeah.. me neither. You've grown in the blink of an eye, where'd all this time go? We've worked so hard to shape you into the wonderful, well mannered dog you are today. I love you with my whole heart, the heart youve kept alive and beating. You're my best girl <3 I can't wait to spend the rest of our lives together.

It's been a long time since I posted anything, and are we surprised? Not really 😅 Arwen has been a lifesaver, and I think the only thing keeping me from calling her fully trained is her dog excitement! She'll be 3 on November 13th, which I can't really wrap my head around. She's my best girl, and I love her so desperately ❤️

If you see me sitting here in the booth of this buffet restaurant, I look abled. You see me laughing and animatedly talking with my friend. You see me eating and drinking without assistance. And then, when you see me get up from the table and my service dog gets out, you give me a *look*. Why does the young adult who looks fine need this dog with her? Well, there are things you can't see. You can't see the pain I am in even as we sit here. My joints pop and strain and hurt, and I am struggling. You can't see the dissociation I'm experiencing, the dizziness and derealization. You can't see me fighting away the panic that is so deeply ingrained, the way I'm watching every person that squeezes by me. You can't see just how much my service dog has helped me the entire time we've been here, the way she's making it possible for me to function here at all. And sometimes, if people ask and I have the energy, I will explain a little bit of that. I will tell them that my service dog is my lifeline and allows me to live my life. But, it's not my responsibility to do so. It's not my job to tell everyone I see exactly what my dog does and how/why I need her. I am allowed to just be, and to simply exist with my medical aid. I am allowed to be 'invisibly' disabled and not have to disclose anything that I don't want to. And so are you ❤️

I present to you Arwen asking to work for the first time!

She wouldn't stop whining at me even though she had literally just been potty and did not need breakfast.

So, now we're on the bus on the way into town because I couldn't not let her work since she asked!!!

Now that we can be out and about again, I took Arwen to the park for some training!! We focused primarily on heeling, as well as training around other dogs. She does not bark or lunge at other dogs at all, she just gets extremely excited and distracted. It ended up being the absolute ideal time to go, because a bunch of program dogs had come to train as well!! We kept our distance, but honestly I couldn't have asked for a better training situation because I was able to walk around the park and not worry about any of them being aggressive. By the time I decided it was time to head home Arwen was doing great at walking by without hyperfocusing on the other dogs! She still has a ways to go, but the barking didn't distract her nearly as much as when we first got there, and I am so extremely happy with how that session went!

Tomorrow I'm planning on going again since I've got another day free, and this time I'll bring some chicken (one of her higher value treats).
