yknow what i wish was explored more. i wish we actually got to see davey’s school life. i think….. i want davey to have a lot of friends. close friends. he’s witty and smart and he attracts a group of boys who rally around him. he’s a teacher favorite, he’s popular- everyone knows he’s going to do great things, and naturally they want to be around him because of that.

and then his father gets hurt. and suddenly david isn’t the same boy. i imagine the jacobs family would try to rough it for a week or so, and everyone can tell something is wrong with david- he’s distracted and stressed and suddenly he’s just not at school anymore. he misses a day, and then another, and another and another and another until it’s found that he’s selling papes. their best friend is slumming it with the Newsies now, and they automatically leave him behind; he’s not good enough for them, despite having been fairly popular. he’s a failure, a horror story of what not to do with their life.

give me,, davey having friends, insisting to the Newsies that he has friends, telling everybody that he has friends and they’re good friends and he loves his friends, but also give me davey noticing the shift, like the fact that he feels more comfortable around the Newsies than he’s ever felt with his school friends. davey coming across some of his old friends when he’s about a month and a half into selling and they’ll barely even look at him, and thats when he realizes that the friendships were conditional.

that’s when he realizes that he doesn’t need friends anymore, not when he has brothers.

Went to the Joji concert last night and I really didn’t know what I was expecting from the guy who dressed in a pink bodysuit and took a bath in uncooked ramen noodles for the whole world to see, but I will say that it definitely wasn’t them just pausing the whole show to start playing smash bros onstage.
