In way tho, to me, the tragedy of Gideon's life is that she feels unloved, and for the most part she's been right. She's bright, brilliant, funny, strong, dedicated, kind, stubborn, so so angry, and very loveable. And she hasn't been loved. Not enough, and not well enough by those that did.

Harrow's loved her... Probably their whole lives, but just try untangling that knot. She has a lot of ground to make up, and only got her shit together enough to start showing Gideon she loves her about sixteen hours before Gideon died. Sixteen hours, half of those spent asleep, against a lifetime of rejection. It's not really surprising Gideon doesn't believe her yet.

Aiglamene basically raised her, and she does love her, and I am deeply unwell about their relationship. I'm also a little glad Gideon never learned to associate the back of Aiglamene's hand with "love". That she knows there should be something better. I suspect—maybe I hope—Aiglamene did that on purpose.

Pyrrha has loved her since she was born, but she's only just barely met her. Her love didn't lead her down to the surface of the Ninth. She never tried to give her baby girl a funeral, and so never found out she was still alive. Her love did jackshit for Gideon all her life, and that might be hard for Gideon to get over.

There have been brushes with it, with other people. Palamedes, who was the closest thing she had to a friend outside Harrow. He held her hand and comforted her, and made sure she wouldn't be caught in his blast radius. Camilla who gave her medical care, and shared with her a mutual trust, and even made a joke at her expense once. Jeannemary, who thought she was super cool and died the same day Gideon first spoke to her. Coronabeth, who kissed her hand once and thought she was sweet. There was love there, with some, and the potential with others. None of these people knew her for more than the last few weeks of her life.

Gideon really truly hasn't been loved as a transitive verb. Someone finally telling her to her face would be a good start, but at this point I don't know what it's gonna take for her to trust. And I don't blame her.

I really admire modders. I've been trying to get into it a bit recently (namely divinity original sin 2 and bg3 since they're 2 of my favorite games ever and use the same layouts/systems) mostly just off of editing existing mods and tweaking them (for myself only ofc) and it's really rewarding :,)

Couple of fun facts under the cut

Compared to canon, MM! Raph is slightly smaller and skinnier for a couple of reasons. The biggest being lack of proper nutrition, second being that he’s constantly training and fighting. Being a Nexus Champion and being in your teen years is a bad combination. Because this isn’t just your average exercise, it’s full on gladiatorial fights you’re having to undergo nearly every day, MULTIPLE times a day. Mans is gonna be a little worn thin, let’s be real

Because of his upbringing (the Mud Dogs not having resources due to being, well. Hardened criminals.) Raph never gets braces! So his teeth are a little fucked up, but Big Mama has no intentions of fixing that. He looks MUCH scarier and monstrous with crooked, fang-like teeth, which is exactly what she wants. It’s also useful in fights, so Raph prefers his fangs… even if he’s busted his lip more times than he’d care to count.

If you noticed that scar on the back of his head, you can probably guess where that came from. Having such a sharp shell is both a blessing and a curse: it’s useful until you’ve been flung backwards and your head makes contact with a sharp edge. Ouch.

Because he has to fight so often in a deadly environment, Savage Raph is in control a LOT. He’s also referred to as Raph’s battle persona, the Red Angel. Nearly every fight, he has to take over just to protect Raph’s mental wellbeing. Because of this, Red Angel is more “developed,” in a sense? Which just means he’s not dormant all the time and actually has a chance to experience being in control. Only problem is, he’s only in control when these fights are going down. So it’s gonna be a major shock to his system once he’s on the outside. And you better believe I have a planned scenario where the younger brothers meet Savage/Red Angel

Cumplane where Airplane, in a fit of either bravery or insanity or positive or negative self-esteem (he's not totally sure) decides to cosplay as Luo Binghe and post the pictures online.

Of course, he doesn't do it as "Airplane Shooting Towards the Sky", he knows he has some questionable fans and doesn't really want to hand them a picture of his face. So he posts the images under one of the pseudonyms he uses for lurking around the comment section and social media tags. It's just a handful of images of him looking like the protagonist in his head, attempting to strike cool poses in a wig and some period clothes (he rented both).

The reception is... mixed. Airplane does not have abs, after all, nor a flawless complexion or much skill with makeup. He is fat, freckled, and awkward. The PIDW readership is not known for being particularly supportive either. In fact they're mostly a crab bucket of negativity and masculine posturing, so he gets a lot of mean-spirited commentary.

It's fine. Nothing he hadn't expected. Really solidifies for him that posting was a fit of madness, actually! What did he even expect? He's bracing himself for the worst when he sees that Peerless Cucumber, notorious hate-reader and defender of Luo Binghe's honor, has commented. Ah, shit. He's probably going to rip into Airplane for daring to sully his precious Binghe's reputation by dressing up like that, isn't he?

The comment is long, too. Fuck. Airplane's not sure if his self-esteem can take a comprehensive beating from the champion hater himself, but he's too curious not to look.

Shen Yuan, in the meanwhile, is just pleased that there has FINALLY been a Luo Binghe cosplayer who looks the part. Of course Luo Binghe wouldn't have exaggerated muscles, those are just a product of dehydration. Binghe spent most of his disciple years running around chopping wood and hauling laundry, and then later doing whatever he could to pack on the calories in order to make it through the Abyss. A hefty workman's build would only make sense for him, anything else would be nonsense. Airplane also described Luo Binghe as having a beautiful face, which Shen Yuan won't blame most cosplayers for not being able to just make happen, but a beautiful face doesn't mean "covered in so much makeup it looks like an anime character"! When would Luo Binghe have the time or inclination to put on makeup? A natural beauty with some inevitable blemishes would make more sense and be much more appealing, and this "Airplane Crashing to the Ground" (funny play on the author's name, Shen Yuan approves) has very pretty features! Everyone hating on this cosplay is just an idiot, the only actual problem is that his wig is poorly fitted.

So in true Peerless Cucumber fashion, he lays this all out.

This gets him embroiled in arguments with several other fans, who even accuse him of actually being the guy in the photos, claiming that there's no other reason why he would defend them. Shen Yuan doesn't care if people think that's him, because that's still the best Luo Binghe cosplay he's ever seen, but he doesn't want them doubting the sincerity of his arguments. So, he decides that the only reasonable thing to do is dress himself up in cosplay as well and then post the actual photos of himself.

While he'd like to dress up as one of Luo Binghe's allies like Mobei Jun, or maybe someone cool like Yue Qingyuan, he is too pedantic to think he could pull that off. Those guys are all strong warrior types, and Shen Yuan is a scrawny pale rich kid who looks like he'd probably lose a fight with a wet paper towel. The only characters he could plausibly pull off would be some of the more consumptive members of Binghe's harem and maybe, maybe, one of the weaker villains like Shen Qingqiu.

Shen Yuan is NOT posting pictures of himself crossplaying to the central nexus of toxic masculinity itself, so... Shen Qingqiu it is!

Poor Airplane has to go sit and stare at a while for a while. Peerless Cucumber likes his cosplay. Peerless Cucumber, ardent defender of Shang Qinghua's sellout crappy main character mary-sue, thinks Airplane is good-looking enough to cosplay as him. And said so. Repeatedly. And then posted borderline thirst-trap villain cosplay of himself, inadvertently revealing in the process that he is hot.

What the. What. What?!

Anyway, Shen Yuan suggests that they attend the next convention both cosplaying together because Airplane Shooting Towards the Sky is supposed to be doing a meet & greet at that one, and wouldn't it be fun to go as a pair? And Airplane agrees before his brain catches up and he realizes that might present a problem.

Her actions are egregious.

They are not out of character.

We are witnessing the making of the wolf Ambessa wanted.

Analysis:

This scene peels away the final scrim of veneer and reveals to us the ugly aggregate of Caitlyn’s flaws.

Why does she do what she does?

Caitlyn knows her affection for Vi is a weakness. She knows it compromises her. It has already cost her the life of her mother and the stability of the city.

But Caitlyn wants it all. She wants Vi, and she wants “justice.” And she’s not one to be denied.

So, she coerces Vi. She manipulates her. Lies to her. Anything to keep her within her sphere of control. Because if she can control Vi, if she can mold her into an extension of her own judgement, they can be together.

And for a while, it works. Vi, desperate for connection and affection and stability, yearning to atone for her percieved mistakes and serve the one she cares for, falls in line. Utterly lacking any moral alignment because all that truly drives her is love, she cleaves to Caitlyn’s authority.

Until she doesn’t.

When Vi breaks with Caitlyn, once again stopping her from doing what she feels must be done, the illusion shatters.

Caitlyn sees reality.

She cannot control Vi.

And so they cannot be together.

As a result, Caitlyn implodes into a cold, closed, compartmentalized fury. She is angry at herself because she lacks discipline. She is angry at her mother for all the ways she resembles her. She is angry at Vi because Vi made her vulnerable.

She directs all her anger into a calculated act of violence designed to sever the ties that bind.

It has to be brutal. A burned bridge. Irredeemable. Because she doesn’t want to tempt herself with a path to reconciliation. She does not trust herself.

Not when it comes to Vi.

Caitlyn is a nexus of privilege and ruthlessness and desire. This, paired with her arrogance and ignorance of statecraft, makes her a prime target for Ambessa and her machinations. I think Caitlyn is likely to look up and find herself a sheep in wolf’s clothing, the sacrificial knife at her throat.

There are many terrible things Trump and his supporters can do by passing new laws. They can shut down USAID, the Department of Education, FEMA. Whatever. They can do a ton of other horrible things. They can try to take away everyone’s health care to fund tax cuts for his billionaire friends, as they are in fact intending to do. All of that is terrible but legal if they can put together the votes. They are in the majority. Joe Biden passed big legislation with tighter margins. What they are doing now, on the contrary, is not only brazenly illegal but an overt and undeniable violation of the federal constitution. When that stops then Democrats will consider helping on the budget and the debt ceiling. And they can negotiate on particulars. But nothing until the lawbreaking stops. If you’re concerned about the constitutional crisis, I would use every opportunity to convey to lawmakers that a flat “no” on any assistance until the criminal conduct stops is the only acceptable position. It is the right thing to do, the constitutional thing to do and it is the only path that holds the possibility of meaningfully changing the situation in the short to medium term. It also demonstrates and shows an understanding of how to use power. And that is something the opposition desperately needs. Make them come to you.
