i think a lot about how Leo didn't use his cabin on the Argo II, and instead just always slept in the engine room or on deck (or let's be real, probably in the walls once or twice). And how Nico and Reyna never even got cabins on the Argo II, since they were unexpected passengers and so probably had to just sleep in the sickbay (if they slept at all, which they probably insisted they didn't need to - or fell asleep in odd spots around the ship) and so were forced to be roommates for a little bit before their quest, or shared a room with someone else on the ship.
#pjo#riordanverse#leo valdez#nico di angelo#reyna ramírez-arellano#there are so many options#Nico and Reyna being forced to be awkward roommates for all of like two days before their quest#just staring at each other silently from across the sickbay#Nico refusing to sleep in the sickbay in general and insisting he doesn't need sleep (he conks out in the crow's nest all the time)#(cause there's no way he's not constantly tired even more than usual while he's recovering)#or maybe he crashes in Hazel's room - or Leo's if he knows Leo doesn't use his room anyways#maybe Reyna crashes in Jason's room cause they used to be best friends before Jason got yoinked#and he feels bad about it and is trying to make it up to her and for just a little bit they can pretend it's the old days#(and Reyna is allowed to bunk with Jason cause she gives Coach a withering glare that makes him back down from complaining)#(she's just tired and sad and could actually really use a hug from her best friend actually)#etc etc. many options here

who could be the funniest person to find out about valdangelo incest fucking in the argo ii days
hm,, let me go through the list
piper: we’ve already established with the aphrodite-related heat around sexual tension that she is a Freak™ and would join them in an effort to find relief (bonus points for the leo munch agenda)
percy: certifiably tired, Has Seen Some Shit. he might raise hell pre-tartarus due to his care for nico & generally wanting to lead the group a bit. post-tartarus he’s walking away looking for a cigarette
annabeth: attempts to psychoanalyze them. they can cover up or not, she just wants to learn what choices lead them here. they have to scream at her to get out, and afterwards she follows them with a notepad
frank: sobbing. just,, immediate overwhelmed sobbing as he walks back out. leo and nico go soft for 3 weeks and try to do everything they can to win frank back over. he gives them the silent treatment until one of them save his life on the quest, and then things go back to a hesitant normal
jason: would probably say the corniest shit in his surprise, “whoa looky here” type stuff 😭. he stares for way too long, even once leo and nico cover up. he asks if this is some Greek thing he’s missed out on and is yelled at to get out
hazel: her shriek of absolute terror would be enough to call the others from their stations, weapons drawn to help hazel fight some monster. this would turn into the argo’s Most Awkward Team Meeting Of All Time-slash-intervention-slash-“we could die any day so I’m not gonna stop screwing my brother, also percy and annabeth are being way too hypocritical about who is and is not allowed to fuck on this boat”
in the end leo installs the most high tech of door locks on everyone’s door (because almost everyone has walked in on someone going solo anyway at this point), but the damage is already done 😭

sorry im probably forgetting something that happens later but i thought only jason and leo raised concerns about nico, not percy? from moa:
“But most of the time, Nico sided with the good guys. He certainly didn’t deserve slow suffocation in a bronze jar, and Percy couldn’t stand seeing Hazel in pain. “We’ll rescue him,” he promised her. “We have to. The prophecy says he holds the key to endless death.”
no you're right! I was very much exaggerating Percy's general level of idk nonchalance to the situation? At least, that's how it feels when you compare the lengths Percy went through to help Nico in botl. Like after the part you quoted, Jason and Leo consider whether they should rescue Nico and Hazel gets so upset that she leaves and Percy is just largely silent through out it which just feels so out of character. It's been ages since I read hoo in its entirety, but the two of them just seem way more apathetic to each other than in pjo and I miss what their dynamic use to be.

HALF MY TAGS DISAPPEARED i dont trust those tags anymore.... but basicallyyyy group dynamics oml. obviously in big groups, youre not gonna know everyone. ive been friends with people since 7th grade (im going to 11th in 8 days) and i havent talked to them one-on-one until this year. big friendgroups work SO different than normal friendships or even trios/quads AND I CAN WRITE AN ENTIRE ESSAY ON THIS AND HOW IT COULD APPLY TO HoO buttt thats a tangent i will not go on rnn (unless ofc you wanted-)
i would focus House of Hades on the new group dynamic and how its changed without the oldest two. whos going to lead now?? jason?? the practically 15 year old?? (he turned 16 like the day they fell, hes not 16, hes considered 15) he doesnt even have his full memories back! nico?? he has the most experience with being a demigod?? coach hedge stepping up?? how do they grapple with the loss of such big figures!! and id keep this going in blood of olympus because dude, percabeth is too traumatized to function after tarturus, let alone lead-
AND I WOULD FOCUS MORE ON FRANK AND HAZEL OML theyre so slept on?? aND THEIR TRAUMA?? hazel has MAJOR abandonment and trust issues. also roaming the fields of asphodel?? i feel like it would affect her a tad bit... AND FRANK- OH MY GOD broski lost his entire family in the last book and lost any sense of familiartity or normal he ever had in the time span. of one year. hes not even in the same country anymore!! and he has to naivagte it all himself?? AND NO ONE MENTIOSN THAT HES AN ORPHAN?? hes so repressed and he needs to adress his emotions.
i would love to have frank now turn to jason as his mentor without annabeth there and learn to lead from jason (which would also explain him becoming praetor) and even more!! i want him to realize that jason isnt some cold distant myth or legend like he was led to believe his entire stay at camp jupiter. jason was just a confused 16 year old...
AND LEO AND NICO INTERACTIONS OH PLEASE i wouldnt have them interact until the second half of the book and keep leo picking on nico to fit in but then i want just a moment of recognition. i want them to see how similar they are. i want them to see themselves in each other. i want a quiet understanding. and they wouldnt trauma dump or anything, thats not who they are but theyd become close. small silent gestures. maybe standing up for each other during a random argument and then just leaving and everyone else is shocked cuz they never realized they were close?? but more leo and nico friendship please
AND JASPER. like i really enjoy that they broke up. i think it makes sense and it really does advance their characters. ToA jason was always my favorite, hes so real and representative of so many people ik and i have a whole other essay on that but ever after the general fandom decided to rally behind valgrace, many people have wrote that essay for me (and im so happy that people finally get jasons character!!) but oh gosh, i would love to focus more on jasper and their dynamic and relationship
and obviously (like majority of the fandom) i would have never sent leo to ogygia i cant remember if this was HoH or BoO but oh well lets go with it maybe if he does end up there, his and calypsos relationship is purely platonic and they bond over their loneliness but i really dont see romantic aspects here. I WOULD ALSO CHANGE HOW CALYPSO WAS WRITTEN?? like she was painted so horribly in ToA and like i think i get why he tried to write her liek that?? but he did not do it well.... and in general i think that leo should get some help and improve his self-worth before getting into any relationship. if he doesnt improve his self esteem, any relationship he has with any person will turn toxic.
and i have so many more ideas but just for HoH i think these are the main points (without adressing the earlier changes i would make)- and its also rather long of a yap-
anyways... im sure youre real happy you asked juliett LOLOL
never forgetting the time someone said "the seven are not a found family, they are parents that should've been divorced long ago but are staying together for the kids and it's not going well", not only hillarious but also true, those guys are not eachother's bffs and it SHOWS

request: Jasico old men couple where they've been together for decades and now they're complaining about arthritis
Jasico nation I knew you'd come through!!
A/N: Have 1,320 words of pure, unmitigated sap-itude. Initially this was going to be a couple little scenes that all started with the same question, to highlight their lives together.... but it got away from me a bit in the middle there, ngl. There's truly minimal complaining (about arthritis or otherwise) tbh, not because they wouldn't but because the spirit of fluffy jasico possessed me, and since this is my first time writing for them since 2016(?????) I thought I'd just see where it took me. Enjoy!
"Did you ever think we'd make it this far?" Jason asked Nico, still beaming, still holding tight to Nico's hand, despite the fact that Nico knows his palms are sweaty and have to be gross by now. Nico's lips still burned from the kiss that Jason had bestowed upon him after Nico's (admittedly brash and over-the-top) confession. (He hadn't wanted to look nervous. He hadn't wanted to chicken out. Jason had taken his hands to stop them from shaking anyway.)
"No," Nico admitted. He'd been braced for rejection, anticipated the taste of it like blood on his tongue and been surprised when he was met with the smile on Jason's lips pressed to his instead.
"I..." Jason began, but he fell silent, unable to finish the sentence as his hands trembled at his side. Nico didn't answer him. He knew that some questions were rhetorical, some sentences were too big to articulate, and that some things didn't need to be said aloud.
He let Jason lean on him as they watched the reconstruction of New Rome. He pressed a kiss to Jason's temple, where laurels might have sat, in another life.
~~~
"Did you ever think we'd get to see something like this?" Jason asked, the joy in his voice tangible as Nico let his boyfriend spin him around the dance floor.
"Of course," Nico scoffed, as if he hadn't spent his whole life waiting for the knowledge that his friends had died. Waiting for the moment that he could feel their souls enter his father's realm.
He'd never thought he'd get to walk someone he loved down the aisle, never thought he'd cry at anyone's wedding, because for the longest time, he hadn't thought any of them would live that long. Even while helping plan the whole thing, while learning how to dance with an increasingly-flustered and clumsy Jason at his side.
He gripped Jason's shoulders a little more tightly when Jason swung him back into the circle of his arms. Outwardly, it appeared that he was holding on to keep his balance, but truthfully, the solid weight of Jason's shoulders under his hands grounded him.
He did as his therapist had bid and tried to bid the anxiety farewell, let it slip from his mind. He could always panic later, he reminded himself. He was determined to enjoy the night.
~~~
"I never thought, when I first met you, that you would turn out to be the love of my life," Jason was saying, both of Nico's hands in his.
Nico thought back to the boy that he'd been at fifteen. Gaunt and gangly and lonely enough to hurt, his very presence a weapon of it's own.
That had been before Hazel, really. Before Jason or Will or Leo, even, had dulled the edges of his loneliness and helped him remember how nice it had been, once upon a time, to have people.
He tried to think of how he would react, to meet that boy now.
"Bit of an oversight, on your part," he said, instead of any of that.
Jason snorted a laugh. "I'm - stop it, you're interrupting my speech," he protested. with no real heat behind the words.
"My bad," Nico said solemnly, "I'm listening, I swear," he schooled his features into a perfectly blank mask. "How's this?"
Jason pressed Nico's knuckles to his forehead, their fingers still twined together, as if staving off a headache.
"Insufferable," he said, but there was still a laugh wrapped around his voice. "But I love you anyway."
"Very generous of you," Nico felt the corners of his lips twitch at the sound of the word 'love,' the way that they always did.
"Very generous," Jason agreed. "I don't think anyone else could handle it."
Nico felt his face soften into a smile. Jason was clearly nervous, or he might have noticed the way that his smile widened a bit more. He nearly said 'you're absolutely right,' and let Jason have this, but...
He'd never get an opportunity like this again. Nico heaved a sigh, careful to make sure his smile didn't fade, so Jason's anxiety wouldn't have time to rise.
"Guess you'll just have to marry me, then."
"Guess s-what?" Jason squawked. Nico couldn't hold back the laughter that bubbled up in his throat. He felt his shoulders begin to shake with it. "Did you--" Jason spluttered, half outraged, half delighted, "Did you just hijack my proposal?"
Nico scoffed, though it was undermined quite a bit by the fact that he was still grinning from ear to ear, "Your proposal? I think you'll find that I just proposed to you."
To emphasize this point, Nico reached into his pocket for the ring that he'd asked Leo to help him make months ago. He held it up in the negligible space between them and waited for the shock to wear off and the gears to turn in Jason's head.
The awestruck look on Jason's face as he took in the sight of the ring was well worth the hours bickering with Leo about the design. And the hours upon hours of persuading Leo that no, really, Jason's engagement ring did not need special features.
Jason's cheeks flushed a bright, brilliant scarlet, and he hid his face in Nico's shoulder.
"Is that a yes?" Nico asked, shoving down the fluttering unsure voice that still tried to claw at him, sometimes.
"Of course it's a yes," Jason responded, his voice muffled by Nico's sweater. He sounded nearly offended that Nico felt the need to clarify.
"Hand," Nico demanded, his satisfaction at his victory suddenly overshadowed by the level of sheer joy he was experiencing.
Jason raised his hand, turning his head so he could watch as Nico slid the ring onto the appropriate finger.
He allowed himself a moment to be an absolute sap, safe in the knowledge that they were alone, and pressed a kiss to Jason's new accessory.
"Now," Nico said, unwilling to let it go entirely, "what was it you wanted to ask me?"
~~~
Nico smiled, looking out over their balcony. In the distance, if he squinted, he thought he could see the light from the sunset glinting off of the Campanile de San Marco.
"Need your glasses?" Jason teased, as if his own eyes hadn't gotten gradually worse, until his lenses were nearly as thick as Nico's pinky finger.
"I'm not reading, I'm enjoying the view."
Jason rose, albeit slowly, to join him. A few of his joints popped as he stood and Nico grimaced in sympathy.
"It is beautiful," Jason agreed. When he leaned on the banister, the sunset caught his hair. For a moment, it was the bright, burnished gold of his youth. For a moment, all Nico could see was the bright young man who had saved his life and demanded nothing but his friendship in return. "I'm glad you talked me into coming here."
"Ah, the water levels are still too high," Nico griped, if only because it was his response every time. "I wish you could have seen it before it began to really sink." Entire sidewalks he had walked in his childhood were gone, either lost beneath the water or deemed too dangerous to cross. Some things remained. Some things were new.
""Did you ever think we'd get this much time?" Nico asked, without really meaning to. Jason's face split into a wide smile.
"Not at all," he admitted. He reached out and took Nico's hand, running his thumb over the ring Nico still wore, despite the fact that his knuckles had warped with age, and if he ever wanted to take it off, now, they'd have to cut it off of him. He'd never admit that he liked the sound of that, particularly because from the moment Jason had put it on him, he'd never wanted to take it off. "But I'm glad we did."
How do you passive aggresively say fuck you in flower? Part II
Summary: It seems that Nico and Will just cant stop running into each other
A/N: FIRST WEEK OF EXAMS OVER, ONLY ONE WEEK TO GO!! Unfortunately, I am not able to write a lot due to tedious revision but I wrote this part 2 a while ago and thought that today would be the perfect time to release it! Anyway, I hope you guys enjoy and comment! <3 from me!
Read on AO3 Read Part I on tumblr
They were not expecting to see each other the next day at Uni. In fact, Will was so shocked, he had to pause and squint at the raven haired boy to check that he was the same as the customer 2 days ago. What was this dude doing here? This was the medical college!
Oh shit, what if he’s a new med student or a transfer student?
However, while it seemed that Will had noticed Nico, it seemed that Nico had not noticed Will; he couldn’t have been more appalled as he was ignored and he simply watched in despair as the italian jogged past him without a moment's pause. Not even a Hey, you’re the guy I made out with yesterday, right?
Will was used to having all his past hookups follow him like a sheep and sure, he hadn’t really hooked up with Nico but he was for some reason expecting some sort of reaction from him. Was he that forgettable?
He felt someone dig their elbow into his ribs and was about to shout What the fuck before he realised that Calypso was elbowing him.
“Calypso what!” He winced as he rubbed at his side, still in pain from Calypso’s pointy elbows.
“Do you think I should invite Leo to the dorm party?”
Will’s head perked up. “ Leo? Leo valdez?”
“Yes Leo Valdez, who else?” Calypso sighed.
“I thought you saw him making out with some guy at another party and then proceeded to pretend you never liked him in the first place-”
“- Which is true! I never liked Leo in the first place, he was just a friend!” Calypso desperately defended.
“Everytime someone says they’re just a friend and not they’re just my friend, you know that they’ve crushed on them.”
“Shut up.” Calypso whacked her bag over Will’s head, ignoring his shouts of protests.
Will’s hands instinctively went over his head, tucking his chin in to prevent himself from gaining any brain damage from Calypso. “ Hey, Hey! I work for you, little shit!”
“Exactly, I can fire you any second I want to!” Calypso boasted before remembering something. “ Wasn’t there a request that came in on Saturday? Something like fuck you?”
Will could feel the blood rushing to his cheeks. “ Uh, yeah, maybe. I don’t really remember.”
Calypso recognised that tone. That tone was the same tone used during the walk of shame, that tone meant things that she did not want in her shop. Turning her head only halfway, she gave Will a grimace, praying that it hadn’t happened again.
“William Andrew Solace, Please please tell me that you didn’t have sex with another client in my shop!”
“For once,” Will smirked. “ For once, I can actually say that I didn’t.”
Calypso sighed in relief, all the tension in her body simply oozing out all at once. Her shoulders dropped and the tense expression on her face was replaced by her regular small smile that she constantly wore, causing her to seem quite shy, which technically she was.
“You know, you seriously have some nerve Callie, hitting your employees like that. That could be harassment. What happened to the shy girl who could tell me the latin name for any plant out there?”
“Just because I don’t hook up with every good looking breathing thing, does not mean I’m shy.” She put her hands on her hips and took several confident steps while swaying her hips before hitting a hard chest with a thud and feeling the hard floor on her butt. Frustrated, she huffed and without even looking at the perpetrator, began to shout,
“Are you blind or stupid? Look where you’re going for fuck sake.” She ignored the offered hand and got up herself, brushing her scraped hands on her pants.
It was only when Will nudged her, not very discreetly may I add, that she noticed that it was Leo Valdez who was offering the outstretched hand and another very scary looking dude standing by Leo. However, something about him seemed familiar- from the shape of his body to his hair and in particular his jawline. She remembered seeing it somewhere.
Fuck, that was the guy Leo was making out with at that party. She realised.
Simultaneously, Will was thinking- Fuck, that was Nico di Angelo.
“Sorry Leo, Calypso,” Will turned to her, completely avoiding Nico. “ Do you have anything you’d like to say to Leo?”
Claypso gave a bitter look to Will before remebering that Leo fucking Valdez was standing infront of her and she had essentialy told him to fuck off. She had to fight the blush rising to the tip of her ears and could only manage to muster a small pipsqueak of ‘sorry’ while looking down at the floor and having her face curtained by her chestnut hair.
Unexpectedly, she felt a hand move the hair out of her face and slip and finger underneath her chin and tilt it up slightly.
“The least you could do while apologising is look at him,” Nico snarled, standing off to the side, watching as Leo brushed her hair out of the way. Leo turned his head to raise an eyebrow that meant Not cool dude before looking back at Calypso, his eyes warm and his smile generous.
“Sorry about him, he’s running low on social interaction juice. Are you okay there?”
Calypso thought she could feel herself gaping- the worst part was that her little shit of a friend Will pointed it out.
“Close your mouth Callie, you’ll get flies. It’s impolite to stare as well,” Will drawled, his eyes still glued away from Nico. Leo glanced at Calypso’s injured hands, the small scrapes and the little cuts across her palms. His frown was cute, with his eyebrows scrunching up and his eyes pooled with concern as he took her hands in his.
“Oh, Dios mio. I’m so sorry- will you forgive me if I clean these up for you?” Leo held her hands gently, as to not hurt her.
Will butted in before Calypso could respond. “Uh, no, that’s not necessary. I can help her from here!”
Nico snorted. “ Yeah, the med- student definitely knows how to clean up his cuts.”
Will growled in response, unappreciative of Nico’s sarcasm. Leo’s frown in concern only grew, the small displays of guilt visible across his face. “ Are you sure? It’s the least I could do after causing you to fall.”
“No it's fine-”
“-Will, calm down. Yes, I’ll go, but you also owe me,” Calypso confirmed. You know your worth, you know your worth, She chanted in her head.
“Well well, a person who knows what they want, of course, I am in your debt. After you.” Leo pointed to the pavement ahead as he left Will and Nico alone. Nico looked Will up and down before letting out a little snort and walking off, not before giving him a little shove with his shoulder as he walked past.
Will was officially outraged. Who the fuck did this guy think he was? First of all, he was barging into the medical college when he didn’t even attend it, then he was barging him to the floor without even apologising and then laughing about it!
Will turned around while still on the floor and yelled. “Who the fuck do you think you’re pushing dipshit?”
Will really thought he had the upper hand. He was taller, felt he was relatively stronger and his reflexes were okay. But when he saw Percy Jackson, Jason Grace, Piper Mclean, Hazel Levesque, Frank Zhang and Annabeth Chase all crowd round Nico, he felt he was the most screwed person in the world. Luckily for him, no one except a girl with brown skin and confused expression turned around.
Will recognised her as Piper Mclean- she had been voted most beautiful girl in the entire Uni. It was rumoured for a while that she and Jason were dating but ever since Will spotted Piper blushing near a new girl, he highly doubted it. Piper raised an eyebrow and Will gave a sheepish smile as he tried to get up.
Piper scurried over, giving her friends a quick wave before running over to help Will. He accepted her hand, mainly because he was terrified that she may kill him if he didn’t.
“Did Nico knock you down here?” Piper asked as Will heaved himself up. Her voice was sweet, soft and had some element that convinced Will that he could trust her; however, at the same time, he didn’t want to snitch on Nico. He gave a blatant shrug and hoped for the best.
“Don’t worry, Nico always teases people he likes. Little idiot isn’t good at showing any emotion other than being horny or being an arsehole.”
“Are you sure those are emotions?”
“I take psychology so I sure as hell hope they are,” Piper confessed, laughing a bit. Will finally realised why everybody considered Piper so beautiful- she wasn’t just a pretty person, she was a nice person. She went out of her way to help others.
“I take medicine so I’m going to hope for the best that Nico doesn’t kill me. He avoids like I’m the plague then acts like he’s planning on murdering me in my sleep.”
“Wait.” Piper paused before turning to Will with a manic grin on her face. “Are you the guy from the flower shop who made the fuck you bouquet and slept with Nico?”
“We didn’t sleep together!”
But Piper wasn’t listening, she was calling Hazel over. Will watched as a girl with gorgeous dark skin that glowed in the sunlight and a tattoo over her left hand turned her head ever so slightly. Will realised why they called her Death’s sister.
She was undoubtedly beautiful but her silent aura was terrifying, like it was driving you to death itself. Large brown eyes that invited you into the darkness and hands that looked sculpted for leading one to their doom.
“Hey Hazelnut! This is the guy who stole Nico from Leo! And he made the Fuck you bouquet that Annabeth gave Percy!”
Will could feel his heart pounding as Hazel left the group and walked slowly to Piper and Will, her expression never changing. Suddenly, when she was close enough to throw a punch, she broke out into a childish grin and started squealing.
“So you’re the one who made Percy that bouquet!” Hazel grabbed Will’s hands and started shaking them excitedly. She giggled before giving them back to him.
“What does making Percy this bouquet have to do with any of this? I only knew Nico because we made out like once and then the fucker blanked me.”
“That’s my little brother you're talking about,” Hazel warned. Will instantly felt his eyes widened in horror before apologizing profusely; he remembered what Nico had told him about his sister and how the two of them had grown up. Hazel laughed before telling him that she was only joking and that he should let loose a bit.
“Was Nico with Leo when he ignored you? Leo Valdez? About yee tall, messy brown hair and ink on his overalls?”
“Yes…” Will nodded.
“Ahhh, that explains it. Those two have a complicated history. He was probably ignoring you because he and Leo might have gotten back together. Or maybe he just didn’t want Leo to know that he made out with you. Or…” Piper let out a grin that Will had no desire to learn the true meaning of.
“Maybe he was just using Leo to make you jealous,” Piper explained, very much used to the drama herself between Nico and Leo. If it wasn’t Percy and Annabeth, Nico and Leo were almost always in an argument.
“So…” Will was deadly silent for a second while his rage began to simmer. “ Are you telling me he cheated on that Leo kid with me?”
“ I really hope not,” Hazel grimaced, looking back at her brother.
“The little fucker,” Will muttered under his breath as he pushed past the two ladies and made his way towards the remaining group. He didn’t care that he was going to run into Percy Jackson, whom he’d had an underlying grudge with for as long as he’d been going to school, he was furious.
How dare he cheat with him. What was Will, some slut who ruined relationships? Hell no. Sure, he slept around but he didn’t go around getting into relationships and creating drama. One night stands were his protocol.
“You!” Will pointed at Nico viciously, his finger almost touching Nico’s nose. The rest of the group simply watched with amusement as Piper held back Jason, whispering who exactly Will was.
“You little cheating seething whore! What the fuck dude! You just make out with whoever you buy shit from?”
“I don't remember you having much of a problem with it.” Nico shrugged, only infuriating Will that much more. He was so tempted to just punch him then and there, in front of everybody including 6 of the most intimidating people he’d ever seen.
“I don't remember you mentioning you had a boyfriend before you jumped me,” Will spat. Nico seemed a little shocked at that comment, his lips shaping into a small ‘o’ before he let a sultry smirk spread across his face in a manner that showed he was relatively proud of himself, only pissing Will off so much more.
Why was the damned bastard smirking?
“Huh, what boyfriend?” Nico turned to Annabeth. “ Hey, Annie, do I have a boyfriend?”
Annabeth looked down at her watch for dramatic effect. “As of 4 months, you have been boyfriend free,” She started and only continued when she saw the smug look on Nico’s face. “That said, that does not mean you have been booty call free for said months.”
“What do you mean!” Nico cried.
“Oh shut it Nico, everyone knows that you and Leo have been playing each other’s booty call for ages now. Just end it and go out with the florist dude,” Frank scoffed.
“Or don’t! The florist dude sounds like a real ass!” Percy cut in, desperate to not let Nico go out with his lifelong nemesis, William Andrew Solace.
“Oh look, it’s Perseus,” Will taunted. Percy felt himself going red and the entire group went quiet. Will looked around, wondering why everyone was silent.
“Oh, you guys don’t know?” Will smirked, looking directly at Percy, the knowledge on the tip of his tongue. “ That’s what everybody called Percy in middle school, after we learnt the myth of P-”
The rest of the sentence was muffled as Will felt a hand wrap itself around his mouth. He looked up and saw the sea green eyes that read Shut the fuck up . Will, feeling nostalgia from this certain situation, smirked and stuck his tongue out, licking Percy’s hands, eliciting a yelp of disgust from Percy.
“Dude! Why do you always do that! Every fucking time I’m trying to shut you up, you pull shit like this!”
“You’re telling me that wasn’t the first time you tried to ‘shut him up’?” Nico and Annabeth both asked, hostility floating in their voices. Will gave a jolly smile at Percy who groaned and wiped his hands on Will’s shirt, muttering ‘gross’ under his breath. Will shoved Percy who proceeded to make a face back.
“How do you two know each other?” Frank asked, completely confused before Hazel went up on her tiptoes and began whispering in Frank's ear while he nodded along.
Nico, sick of Will’s attention not being focused on him butted in. “ Did you come all this way to flirt with Percy or what?”
Percy and Will both gagged and shivered, the idea of liking each other being just gross.
“I’m here because you son of a bitch, used me!” Will cried, flinging his arms out.
Nico raised an eyebrow. “I did?”
“Your boyfriend, booty call, whatever you wanna call them- was right there and I was just some pawn for you-”
“-If I wasn’t talking or paying any attention to you whatsoever, how on earth would I make them jealous?”
Will didn’t respond, his mind racking for answers, excuses, insults he could fling at the raven haired boy. He noticed he wasn’t wearing his lip ring that day.
“I think you should focus on the fact that Leo and I just so happened to be at the Medical College despite our majors being nothing related and we just so, by chance, crashed into you and your friend,” Nico hinted. He was a bit tired from how oblivious this blond guy was- hadn’t he made it obvious?
Will took a while to connect a few dots, but the problem was that he only connected the exact dots that Nico did not want him to connect.
“Wait, so Leo does like Callie? Is that why you guys are here?”
Nico wanted to fucking facepalm.
Saturday
The shop bell rang. Calypso was sitting at the counter with her apprentice, Meg. They were both chatting, something to do with the variation of a certain dandelion- Will wasn’t very sure.
He was sporting a daisy chain around his wrist that Meg had forced him to wear and a pink rose had been braided into his hair after much argument with Calypso that the thorns would hurt, in which she retorted that she’d obviously clip the bloody thorns.
When the bell rang, none of the three workers really snapped their heads up. But when the bell rang, and then rang and then rang again, they slowly lifted their heads from their conversation. Will, who had been leaning his elbows on the counter to talk to the two ladies, turned his head to see 8, very unwelcome people, walk into his shop.
Nico was standing there with all 7 of hids friends- Percy, Annabeth, Frank, Hazel, Piper, Jason and Leo. All of whom were very much not welcome in any way whatsoever in this shop.
“What are you doing here?”
The friends all glanced at one another before a few sputters of laughter were spread out. Nico, who was wearing his lip ring again, walked forward and picked up a red rose, twirling the thorny flower in his two fingers, ignoring the small prick it made.
He noticed the blood trickling down his thumb and lifted the injury to his lips.
“Didn’t I tell you last time...” Nico asked, his voice teasing but also malicious, a small corner of his lips stained red. “That you’ll be seeing a lot more of us?”
Part 66. Nico calls his far away cousin.
In short: Nico gets therapy from Dionysus. In the previous chapter, Nico did research on the relatives from his mothers’ side. In this chapter, he calls one of them. The story is also on AO3 and on FanFiction.net and in Tumblr Tags like Nico di angelo, will solace, Pjo etc.
This Might Be Crazy: Chapter 66: The New Rome Special
A week later we all got together at a café in New Rome. We had found the names of my relatives. Now it was time to let them know I existed.
I took a deep breath. ‘Okay.’
Pollux reached into his bag and got out his smartphone and a pink note, which he carefully put on the table. ‘I got the numbers.’
‘Yeah, you told us,’ Will answered.
Hazel looked excited. ‘Let’s do it! And come on, Will, liven up a little...’
‘I just want to know where he got the numbers.’
Pollux grinned. ‘Just accept that I did, doc.’
‘Don’t act all innocent, I saw you hanging around the black books in the camp library...’
‘How long do you want to keep this going? Nico over here is nervous.’
I looked up at Pollux. ‘Am not.’
‘Sure are.’
‘And how would you know?’
‘Usually I would try to convince you all that I know everyone’s emotions at all times due to my stellar status as a Dionysus kid, but that isn’t true. I can just see it on your face.’
I peered at Hazel and Will, who slowly nodded.
I quickly looked back at the phone. ‘Well... give me the number, then.’
Pollux handed me the note. ‘I thought you would probably want to talk to Sofia di Angelo. She is the oldest of the three sisters.’
Hazel looked over my shoulder. ‘She is twenty. That is about our age, but just old enough to be independent.’
‘Exactly.’ Pollux nodded.
Even Will seemed impressed. ‘You thought up a whole plan.’
‘Of course, doc.’
I put down the note and took a deep breath. ‘As a matter of fact, poisoneye, I am indeed nervous,’ I told Pollux.
‘Understandable.’
I reached for the phone. Carefully I pushed the right buttons. Hazel sighed. ‘It’s a long number. Longer than most numbers in America, I think.’
‘It sure is.’
My finger hovered over the green ‘call’ button. ‘Okay, okay, okay.’
‘If it ends up being a disaster, we’ll let the mist do its work,’ Will said soothingly.
‘I know,’ I muttered. Still, my body was filled with anxiety. I really was going to call some far away cousin.
I bit my lip and took a sip of my drink: the New Rome’s chocolate milk Special, extra strong (which just meant they added cafeïne. Perhaps it wasn’t the best for my anxiety).
I looked up. Pollux stared right back at me. One look at his face and I knew he would push the button if I didn’t hurry up soon.
I pushed the button and he let out a sigh. ‘Finally.’
‘Cut me some slack.’
‘I already am.’
‘Anyway!’ Will pointed at the mobile phone. It was ringing, which meant it was actually calling someone.
The person, this distantly related woman, had the gall to actually pick up. Wait. Stop.
‘Ciao, stai parlando con Sofia di Angelo?’
I opened my mouth. ‘...eh…’
‘Ciao?’
‘You’re speaking to Nico di Angelo,’ Pollux said for me. Will rubbed my shoulder.
‘...yes, yes you are,’ I added.
‘Is this a prank?’ She asked, in English.
‘I can promise you it isn’t. ‘My name really is Nico di Angelo, and… eh…’ That she hadn’t hung up the phone yet seemed like a miracle.
‘The last Nico we had in the family was a nephew of my great-grandaunt.’ Her what? I mean, that was probably right.
‘Well, and me. I live in America. My… great-grandmother first came here, I was... named after this nephew of hers, who was my... grandfather. I was curious about my Italian family. I did some research, found your number in the online phone book…’ I shrugged, even though she couldn’t see me. ‘Whole story.’
It was quiet on the other side. ‘Why are you calling now?’
‘I… I wanted to get in touch with my relatives,’ I answered. ‘Also, you speak good English,’ I blurted out.
She chuckled. ‘You too, if you are really a di Angelo.’
‘I lived in America for most off… for my entire life.’
Another thinking pause. ‘You said you’re great-grandmother went to America. I know that I have a relative who did so. She fled after Mussolino came to power.’
Hazel grabbed my hand. It was suspiciously quiet around me.
‘Eh, yeah, that is right.’
‘Unbelievable.’ Sofia sighed. ‘Do you mind if I call you back after I told my family? You…’ It was quiet for a moment. ‘You know too much to be a prankster. Only my relatives know of this and nobody dares to joke about it, because my great-grandmother doesn’t like it.’ She snickered. ‘She knew your great-grandmother. Only shortly, she was five when she disappeared. You might have heard that.’
‘Ah.’ I was too stunned to say anything else. ‘I… I am just…’
It was silent for a moment. ‘Can I reach you via this number?’ Sofia asked.
I looked at Pollux. He slowly nodded. ‘Yes,’ I answered. ‘You can reach me on this number.’
‘I will call you back, then. Addio, Nico.’
‘Yes, goodbye.’
After a few seconds, she hung up the phone. My heart was beating right out of my chest. Slowly, I turned my head around, until I was facing Will. I took a deep breath and began to laugh. ‘I just…’
‘You just confiscated my phone,’ Pollux said, unbelieving. ‘Still, I…’
‘Wow,’ Hazel whispered.
I moved forward to hug her. ‘Isn’t it great?’
Will softly cheered. ‘You’re in contact with your family, Nico!’
‘With my relatives,’ I muttered. ‘You’re my family.’ I put my arm around Will, too. After a few seconds, Pollux sighed and moved over to us. We let him join in. He was family too, after all.
A/N: Headcanon that the general swear word for the Dionysus kids is ‘poison eye’ or something else that references their Very Purple Eyes. Also headcanon that all Dionysus kids have purple eyes, making it easy to see which cabin they belong to.
The Seven+ and Phones
idk if Leo made demigod-safe phones or if it’s an iPhone extension or something just go with it
Jason: He’s the kind of person who would definitely own a palm pilot if it was 15 years ago. He uses his phone calendar and the lists app religiously. Has read receipts on and always texts back using correct punctuation within 10 minutes (assuming it’s before 10:30 because after that the phone goes off because the blue light is bad)
Piper: Cracked screen from not having a case and dropping her phone (but Jason has since insisted on providing one). Her siblings forced her into getting an Instagram, and even though she rarely posts, she actually goes on a lot to look at their pics. If she doesn’t respond to a text as soon as she sees it, it’s never going to happen
Leo: Of course tricked out his phone in a million different ways. His favorite is the app that calls Festus to wherever he is. He also made sure it could withstand more heat than a normal phone because he definitely gets a little too entertained by memes sometimes. Plus it’s super secure so even the Hermes kids can’t hack it
Hazel: Definitely took her a while to get used to having a phone because they weren’t a thing when she was growing up, but she’s learning. Has one of those big cases that looks like a cute animal because why not. Is surprisingly obsessed with Instagram and makes Frank take aesthetic pics of her on a regular basis. Still thinks LOL means lots of love
Frank: For a responsible Roman he’s actually really bad at keeping track of his phone. He always leaves it on silent because he’s afraid of it ringing at the wrong time, but then he’ll leave it somewhere and can’t even find it by calling his number and following the noise. But sometimes (when he can find it) he’ll just end up playing random games like Candy Crush for hours
Nico: I still think that he’s a hardcore gamer from his time in the Lotus Casino. Spends all day on his phone, but will never actually answer if someone calls and only responds to texts maybe 20% of the time (unless it’s Hazel - she always gets a response). Still uses Tumblr
Annabeth: Is constantly finding new puzzle games to be obsessed with, and will spend hours glaring at her phone when she can’t figure out a level. But then she’ll find a better game a week later and never play again. Is always setting alarms and reminders for random stuff. Will double/triple/etc text if she doesn’t get an immediate response
Percy: Percy didn’t really grow up with video games or much technology in general because of Sally being super cautious and also not having much money, so he doesn’t really care much about his phone. Just uses an old one from Nico vs buying himself. Mostly uses it for keeping in contact with his mom and seeing pictures/videos of Estelle
Music of the Night (V x Reader)
Welcome back to another chapter of Music of the Night!
From this chapter and on, this fic will continue a bit kinda like the musical and the movie albeit with a few changes on the plot. This is an AU after all, one that mainly focuses on our dear and mysterious Phantom and his relation with the Reader.
Tagging @minteyeddemon and @thedyingmoon as a special thanks for believing in this idea since before I started writing it. Hope you enjoy!
Chapter 4: An Angel Ready to Take Flight
- Two years later -
“This trophy from our saviors, from our saviors from the enslaving force of Rome!”
The conductor signaled to the orchestra the start of the opera Hannibal’s Overture. Right on time, a parade of actors and actresses entered the stage from the side, marching while backup singers among them continued with the song.
“With feasting and dancing and song, tonight in celebration, we greet the victorious throng, returned to bring salvation!”
The scene flowed beautifully, the gorgeous red dresses and attires that the performers were wearing looked stunning from Trish’s place near the first row of seats. Next, the backup dancers appeared on stage, their choreography signaling the triumphant entrance of the war general Hannibal.
“The trumpets of Carthage resound! Hear, Romans, now and tremble! Hark to our step on the ground! Hear the drums, Hannibal comes!”
The soldiers and ladies of the court stepped aside to reveal the arrival of the great general, played by main tenor Ubaldo Piangi.
“Sad to return to find the land we love threatened once more by Rome's far-reaching grasp-“
“Gentlemen, gentlemen…” Interrupting Piangi’s solo, the conductor nervously tapped the stand before him, stopping the music altogether. “Monsieur Lefevre, we are in the middle of a rehearsal right now.”
Lefevre had sauntered into the stage accompanied by three other men.
“I am terribly sorry Monsieur Reyer, it’s only for a quick announcement.” Lefevre excused himself before quickly clearing his throat “Monsieur Rever, Madame Trish, ladies and gentlemen. Please if I could have your attention thank you very much.”
Making a brief pause and waiting until everyone gathered round, Lefevre continued “As you know, in a few weeks I will be retiring, it has been a great pleasure for me working alongside an extraordinaire crew such as all of you. And now, it is my pleasure to introduce you to these two gentlemen who now own our Opera House, Monsieur Richard Firmin and Monsieur Gilles Andre.”
He gestured to two of the men who stood by his side. One of them, which you presumed was Monsieur Firmin, stepped to the front and took the word. “It’s a pleasure to meet you all. And we are deeply honoured to introduce our new patron, the Vicomte Raoul de Chagny.”
The third man in question was tall and with a lean figure, he had warm hazel eyes and curly blond hair. He was rather handsome and looked to be well-mannered considering his posture the entire time.
“My parents and I are honoured to support all the arts, especially Fortuna’s well renowned Opera House.”
“If you allow me Vicomte, gentlemen.” Lefevre interjected, beckoning Carlotta and Ubaldo. “Signora Carlotta Giudicelli, our current leading soprano; Signor Ubaldo Piangi, lead tenor of our fine Opera; and Monsieur Reyer, maestro in charge of our orchestra.”
“An honor Signor, Signora, Monsieur. I believe we are keeping you from your rehearsal. My apologies for the interruption everyone, you may continue with your duties.”
The three men retired to the side of the stage while Trish ordered to repeat the scene once more from the top. The premiere would be that same night and the last dress rehearsals must go according to the tight schedule programmed.
Lefevre invited the new administrators to stay and watch the performers first hand, soon enough Trish joined them so he could properly introduce her.
“Gentlemen, I proudly introduce you to Madame Trish. An unparalleled choreographer and dance captain that’s been gracing our beloved Opera for these last years.”
“An honor meeting you.” Trish responded politely before showing them the routine the dancers were currently practicing on stage. “As you can see, we take great pride in the excellence of our ballet. We primarily focus on the discipline of our ballerinas rather than their mere talent, in order to ensure the success of our productions.”
The three man observed attentively at how the scene before them took place, impressed at the incredible skills and professionalism all the staff members showed for their work.
“Now I see why madame, especially that exceptional beauty performing over there.” Unbeknownst to you, Firmin pointed towards your dancing figure.
“(Y/N) (L/N).” Trish informed him. “A very promising ballerina Monsieur, one of the best this theatre has ever witnessed. Now please follow me gentlemen, we don’t want to stand in our performers’ way.”
As they gave the performers the space they needed, Raoul centered his bright eyes on you. He was enthralled by the swift flow of your movements, as if the choreography was basically second nature to you. The scene continued with the rest of the actors marching to the center, followed by a mechanical prop of a magnanimous war elephant.
“The trumpeting elephant sound. Hear, Romans, now and tremble, hark to their step on the ground. Hear the drums! Hannibal comes!”
A glorious crescendo filled the Opera House before the scene reached its finale. Silence took over for a few moments before the new administrators and the Vicomte clapped at the great performance they had just witnessed, not registering Carlotta’s frustrated voice as she strode towards them.
“That number was astounding! We are very excited about tonight’s gala-“
“All day! All they ever want is the dancing!” Carlotta rudely interrupted Andre “Allor… I hope you are as excited about dancing girls as your new managers, BECAUSE I WILL NOT BE SINGING! Addio a tutti!”
She stomped furiously to her personal assistants, ordering them to gather all her belongings for her. Carlotta’s sudden departure left Firmin and Andre in absolute shock, while the rest of the staff were simply unfazed by her attitude, already used to this kind of meltdowns from her.
“What can we do now?” With no other options at hand, the new owners had no choice but to follow Lefevre’s advice to this particular kind of situation “Grovel. Grovel, grovel.”
So of course, Firmin and Andre immediately took after Carlotta to stop her from leaving the stage, loudly exclaiming any possible compliment they could think of in order to appeal to her.
“Beauty!” “Principessa!” “Bella Dama!”
“Si! Si! Si!”
“Oh Goddess of Song!”
“If you excuse me, please.” Everyone turned to see the Vicomte approaching Carlotta with a rather calm and suave expression on his face “Monsieur Reyer, isn’t there a marvelous aria for Elissa in Act. 3 of Hannibal? Perhaps the signora-“
“Yes, yes, but no!” she angrily interjected “Because turns out I don’t have the right costume for Act 3 because somebody made a horrible disaster out of it! And I hate my hat!” She sobbed and lamented, very much like a spoiled diva in the eyes of the staff members. Raoul, however, remained unfazed by her sudden outburst and simply smiled warmly at her.
“I was wondering, signora, as a personal favor… would you give us the privilege of a personal performance? Unless of course, Monsieur Reyer objects.”
“No, aspette! aspette!” Taking in deep breaths, Carlotta composed herself, the Vicomte’s words having their desired effect. “If my managers command, Monsieur Reyer?”
“If my diva commands?” Reyer spoke in a mirth voice to appeal to her, which made her beam in joy.
“Yes I do!”
Reyer quickly returned to his position at the head of the orchestra, the pianist preparing himself for Elissa’s aria. Taking hold of his baton, the conductor signaled Carlotta.
“Signora?”
Carlotta first applied some throat spray and readied herself before confirming. “Maestro.”
Elissa’s aria ‘Think of Me’ was indeed an exquisite piece, only the most privileged voices could ever properly bring forth all the emotions contained in its beautiful lyrics. Carlotta Giudicelli may be an insufferable diva in the eyes of those who worked with her, but there was no denying that she had a rather wonderful voice. The entire theatre fell silent as a sign of respect to her magnificent singing, no one dared to interrupt her, no one dared to disrespect La Carlotta in such way.
That is until a snapping sound made everyone’s hearts drop, and the next thing they all knew, a heavy curtain was falling down right towards her.
“Signora!”
Panicked screams resonated through the stage. Raoul managed to pull Carlotta right out of danger’s way, her ample dress, however, ultimately made them both topple down due to the weight of its many layers of fabric. Many rushed immediately to help both the Vicomte and mostly the lead soprano, who was trapped beneath the heavy curtain.
“Oi Buquet! What in heaven and hell happened over there?!” Nico screamed furiously at Mr. Buquet, the man in charge of operating the changing scenery at the fly floors. “You are lucky nobody got killed for this!”
“It wasn’t me Nico, I swear! I-I remained in my position all the time, Lord Sparda knows I wasn’t near that curtain.” Buquet stuttered nervously, the poor man fearing the possibility of losing his job over this accident.
Adjusting her glasses, Nico walked around trying to look if someone else had been up at the fly floors tampering at the ropes, but couldn’t find nobody.
“What are you talking about? There’s no one else there.”
“Do you think… it could have been the Phantom?” Buquet murmured almost inaudibly.
“Please Buquet, don’t be ridiculous! Seems that I’ll have to examine the grid, the least I want now is a broken pulley or something.” She was sure Buquet hadn’t been responsible for the incident, for everyone knew he was a very hardworking and trustworthy person. So the only possible explanations Nico could think about were either one of the pulleys got damaged and broke down, or the rope wasn’t secured properly.
Meanwhile, the situation on the stage wasn’t looking pleasant at all.
“We are deeply sorry for this signora, I’m sure this kind of stuff tends to happen from time to time.” Andre tried his best, and failed, to calm down a ver altered Carlotta.
“Two years! For two whole years this kind of stuff has been happening! And has anybody done something to stop them? NO! So until you manage to stop this incidents, I refuse to set a foot in this Opera!”
As she stomped out of the theatre followed by her hurrying assistants, everyone could feel in their hearts that unlike her previous outbursts, she was not coming back this time. And now the question lingering in their minds was: What were they going to do now?
…………
The performers were gathered at the green room, already out of their costumes and in casual attire instead. All staff members were told to leave the stage so Trish, Lefevre and the new owners could discuss on how to proceed and find an imminent solution as soon as possible.
“I’m afraid we’ll have to cancel.” Firmin lamented as he wiped the sweat off his forehead. “We have lost our main star and there’s no way we can find another soprano for tonight’s premiere.”
“Calm down Richard. There must be a substitute, an understudy-“
“Understudy? With all due respect Monsieur Andre, but there’s no understudy for La Carlotta!” interjected Reyer who was visibly nervous about this turn of events.
Tension and concern filled the entire Opera, and as much as the Vicomte and Trish tried their best to control the situation at hand, still no plausible solution had been found yet. Firmin and Andre were mainly worried about the imminent decision of returning all the earnings, the Opera was having a full house that night after all and that could mean a terrible economic loss for the company.
You were currently sitting on the floor hidden behind one of the side curtains of the stage. Curiosity had completely taken over you and now you were secretly trying to listen to the discussion taking place on the stage. You didn’t mean to eavesdrop so rudely, but you were terribly worried and couldn’t help it. All the efforts of your friends, of the people you now considered pretty much your family. If a substitute is not found by tonight, then it all would be in vain.
“My nightingale, my angel of music…” a familiar voice filled your ears “Why are you worried? What is filling your heart with sorrow?”
You could feel his presence right behind you, but you dared not look back out of respect. The Phantom always kept his identity a secret, the least you could do to repay everything he taught you, was respecting his decision not to be seen.
“Our lead soprano is gone… if we don’t find someone, anyone, then…” you trailed off, fighting to keep your tears from falling. “Everyone has worked so hard for this production, I don’t want their efforts to be in vain…”
He remained silent.
A warm breath grazed your ear, making shivers run down your spine.
“I believe you are ready then…”
“Phantom? …What do you mean?”
“… I believe in you, my angel. Go forth, and bless the world with your divine voice.”
The presence behind you was gone.
“Phantom? Wait!” You turned around, but he was already gone.
Did he mean…? No, there was no way you could do this. You may have improved a lot since your first lesson with him, but were you truly ready to perform before a real audience? A full house? What if you get the lyrics wrong? What if you get nervous and stutter during a musical number? No, you couldn’t do this.
But the Phantom… he believed in you. The Opera, your friends… they needed you.
… Your father… he… he always believed in you.
Taking a deep breath, you slowly got on your feet.
…………
“Please excuse me everyone.”
Eyes turned to you, the discussion coming to a pause.
“(Y/N) is something wrong? You look worried about something.” Trish walked to you, concerned after noticing the few tears in the corner of your eyes which you quickly wiped away.
“Please, allow me to do it.” the words came out of your lips in an almost inaudible whisper.
The others on the stage looked at each other in confusion. “Miss, you don’t mean…”
There was no turning back. With great strength in your eyes, you voiced your request with confidence. “If it’s not too much of a bother, please allow me to play as Elissa.”
Everyone’s eyes widened in surprise. Andre turned to Firmin “But she’s just a dancer, there’s no way she can do it.”
“(Y/N) do you have any idea of what this entails?” Trish was looking at you incredulously, genuine concern in her eyes. “This is the main role we are talking about, not just anybody can perform it correctly.”
“I know the choreography as well as the lyrics. I can assure you I’ll be able to do it.”
With a sigh leaving her lungs, Trish turned to Reyer. “Maestro would you kindly call your pianist over? Allow her to sing the Act. 3 aria and we shall see if she’s fit for the role.”
“Right away, Madame.”
As the pianist rushed to the orchestra pit, the Vicomte beckoned you to the front of the stage.
“Over here Miss, don’t be shy. For the moment let’s just hear the beginning of the aria, understood?”
You nodded. As Reyer and the pianist got ready, you closed your eyes and remembered the faith your family always had in you, your father’s words, and the teachings of the Phantom.
And so, the first notes to the aria sounded.
“Think of me, think of me fondly
When we've said goodbye
Remember me, once in a while
Please promise me you'll try
When you find that once again you long
To take your heart back and be free
If you ever find a moment
Spare a thought for me.”
Silence.
“M-Magnifique! Absolutely magnificent!”
With wide eyes and clapping hands, you were congratulated by the everyone in front of you.
“(Y/N) that was wonderful!” Trish added in utter surprise “Now why hadn’t you mentioned you could sing like that before, darling?”
“To be honest, I’ve never sung professionally before. But I’ve been receiving lessons for a while and seeing our current predicament well… I decided to at least give it a try.”
“And what an extraordinaire performance that was.” Raoul walked to you and joined Trish at her side. “Miss (Y/N), due to our current circumstances and your impressive demonstration, we are proud to inform you that you may play Elissa in tonight’s premiere. We believe you will be able to deliver a breathtaking performance tonight.”
You could feel your eyes water again at their words. All those days you practiced, they were finally bearing fruit.
“Then I promise I won’t fail you.”
Trish gave you a warm smile. “Alright then, the show must go on and there’s no time to lose. Come (Y/N), we must rehearse your lines and musical numbers.”
A shadowed figure in the long abandoned Box Four smiled down at what was happening on stage before retreating. After all, the Phantom had a very important gala to attend that night, and there was no way he would miss his beloved angel performing on her debut.
…………
As Nico finally reached the grid high above the stage, she took out her flashlight and started inspecting the pulley of the fallen curtain. To her surprise, however, the device was in top-notch condition. Nothing broken, rusty or unstable
“Huh? Well that’s weird.” She had also previously checked the rope. It had no signs to have been cut or damaged either, so the only logical explanation left was that whoever was in charge of tying and securing the ropes made a terrible job, either that or… someone untied it and let the curtain fall on purpose. Then again, she couldn’t find anyone else on the fly floors other than Buquet, and he was too far away to have done it.
“Argh… I’ve already told them over and over again to check their damn ropes.” She muttered to herself before getting out of the grid.
…………
After one last conversation with Firmin and Andre, Lefevre decided to retire for the day. However, there was something else he had to take care to before leaving the building. He reached for the inner pocket of his coat, pulling a sealed black envelope with no name or address written on it, its only prominent characteristic was a lilac wax seal on the back.
Lefevre stared at the envelope for a few moments before putting it back in his pocket and proceeding with his task. Entering the green room, he spotted Trish and (Y/N) going over Elissa’s lines.
“Excuse me Madame Trish, may I talk to you for a few seconds. I’m afraid it’s a very important matter.”
She stood up and after instructing (Y/N) to keep practicing her lines, she followed him out of the room.
“What happened Monsieur Lefevre? Did something happen?”
He gulped audibly before answering. “Trish. You have worked in this theatre for a couple of years now, enough for me to realize how valuable and loyal you are for the company that I basically nurtured for most of my life. Which is why I trust you fully to complete the task that I’m about to give you. Please listen carefully what I’m about to tell you, and please, promise me you’ll handle this with complete and absolute discretion.”
Lefevre reached for his inner pocket once again and handed her the mysterious black envelope.
“I’m afraid I don’t understand Monsieur. What is inside this letter?” She inquired worryingly.
Lefevre inhaled deeply before continuing in a whispered voice “Inside this envelope there are exactly 1,800 euros. At the end of every month, you must place that exact amount of euros in a black envelope like this one. I keep them in the third drawer of my desk, as well as some lilac sealing wax and a seal stamp with a design like the one in this envelope. Then, you must take the money to Box Four and slide it under the curtain. That box must remain unavailable for the public always. It is imperative that nobody, absolutely nobody, sees you when delivering the money.”
“What? But who is this money for?”
Sweat started forming on Lefevre’s forehead, and when he remained quiet, it only worsened Trish’s concerns.
“Just… promise me that you will do it. And please… don’t ask anymore questions to me or anybody else.”
She hesitated. She had no idea of what was it that got Lefevre so nervous, and then there was the fact that he was willing to pay an unknown person such an important amount of money every month.
There was something quite sketchy behind all of this. And yet, she somehow trusted Lefevre.
“Fine… I just hope this won’t get me in any trouble in the future.”
“Don’t worry, I promise you this is the only thing you have to do. Thanks for everything Madame Trish.”
And with those words, Lefevre left the Opera.
Trish examined the envelope in her hands and turned it around. Her eyes centered on the mysterious lilac wax seal, or more importantly, the peculiar design of the stamp.
A single yet elegant ‘V’ decorating its center.
Normal Abilities and Powers
Disabilities that count as Abilities to Demigods
ADHD- Due to being a demigod, he has ADHD which means his reflexes are honed for battle. Nico possesses inborn supernatural battle reflexes and senses that he uses to analyze the fighting style of his opponent.
Dyslexia- Like most other demigods, Nico’s brain is hardwired to understand Ancient Greek rather than modern languages.
Autism- This isn’t necessarily something he has due to being a demigod, I just felt like I should put this here too. I just headcanon Nico as having Autism (like I do most of my other muses), seeing as how his biggest Special Interest is Mythomagic to the point he knows each and every creature and god and their attack power, even after having stopped playing the game for a few years. I also see a lot of other traits that I have as an autistic in Nico, but I’m not gonna go too into that right now.
Languages
Ancient Greek- Nico is fluent in Ancient Greek, being able to summon the dead by chanting in Ancient Greek.
Italian- Nico is Italian by birth and knows how to speak it fluently. This helps with some of the other Romance languages as well, such as Spanish and Portugeuse.
Latin- Nico is the Ambassador to Pluto at Camp Jupiter and he tends to go back and forth between the camps. I’m almost certain he learns to speak Latin while at Camp Jupiter.
Will Power- Nico, apparently, has tremendous, seemingly indomitable willpower, since he was able to survive in Tartarus on his own, while seeing the place in all of its ineffable horror for the entire time he spent there.
Pain Resilience- Nico was able to endure immense amounts of both physical and mental pain (notably even scars inflicted by Lycaon which "burned like acid"), much to Reyna's amazement and respect.
Abilities that Nico has inherited from Hades
As a son of Hades, Nico is a really powerful demigod. Unlike other children of the Big Three, like Thalia and Percy, Nico is significantly better at using his powers rather than his sword. This is due to his time spent in the Underworld, training with the dead.
Geokinesis- Nico can control the earth - levitating rocks and making them deadly, black, and extremely sharp. Nico can open fissures in the earth that can swallow up creatures and trap them in the Underworld. He can cause earth tremors so powerful, they can shatter the pillars of a mountain fortress. He can also control the black walls of the Underworld. His geokinetic abilities are only surpassed by his half-sister, Hazel Levesque and his father, Hades.
Necromancy- As a son of Hades, Nico has control over the dead in addition to creatures of the Underworld, like Hellhounds.
Power over the Undead- Nico can reanimate skeletons, summon Skeleton Warriors, put them to sleep, and destroy them. He can banish the dead back to the Underworld as well. It is unknown how much he has increased in power since then. This is an extremely powerful ability as it literately allows him to have an army anytime he wants. However, summoning too many undead warriors at one time can cause him fatigue.
Summoning Deceased Souls: Nico can summon souls of the deceased by digging a pit, filling it with food (or blood, but he prefers McDonalds Happy Meals) and chanting in Ancient Greek.
Releasing Souls- Nico is able to release the souls of people who should have died, but have somehow managed to cheat death, such as Daedalus.
Sensitivity to Death: Nico can sense death as it happens or when it is coming; when a person close to him dies, it comes as a ringing in the ears. In addition to that, he has a deep knowledge of the Underworld and knows when a person's life is being judged in the Underworld. Nico can also sense when an immortal is fading, as in the case of Pan. His powers are so great he could even sense that Percy and Annabeth were close to the Doors of Death within Tartarus.
Power Over Ghosts: as the Ghost King, Nico can physically manipulate ghosts, such as taking hold of them by hand or forcing them to be silent with a gesture
Osteokinesis: Nico is able to summon and telekinetically control bones.
Umbrakinesis: Nico has control over darkness and shadows for various uses such as solidifying it for attacks and to hide in it.
Shadow Travel: Nico can use shadows as a way of transportation; however, great distances tend to wear him out. The first time he shadow traveled, he passed out for a week. He seems to have gotten better control over it because in The House of Hades, he implied he could use shadow travel to send the Argo II across a mountain range, but was too weak because of his time in Tartarus. When he recovers his strength by the end of the The House of Hades, he decides to transport the Athena Parthenos across the ocean by shadow-traveling about three hundred miles at a time. However, as revealed in The Blood of Olympus, overexertion of shadow travel can cause the user's molecular structure to begin to fall apart, gradually turning them into shadows and lose themselves. Due to Nico pushing himself to bring the Athena Parthenos to Camp Half-Blood, he began to lose himself, even entering a "shadow coma".
Shadow Absorption and Dissipation: Nico can also dissipate and absorb shadows with his sword.
Darkness Generation: He can shoot solid bolts of darkness, and surround enemies in pitch-black clouds of lightless space.
Darkness Shields: He can solidify shadows into virtually impenetrable shields.
Invisibility: He can use shadows to cover himself in darkness to become invisible.
Umbrakinetic Healing: He can heal himself and others using darkness (minor injuries).
Thermokinesis: Nico has been shown to generate extreme temperatures to the point of combustion and freezing. However he has yet to control the fire and ice he generates.
Hypnokinesis: Nico can navigate through "the dark dreamscape" of dreams better than most other demigods (and is only somewhat surpassed by demigod children of Hypnos, like Clovis), since he claims that dreams and death are "old friends of his." Hence, Nico has a higher degree on control over his dreams, the ability to astral project his consciousness, find and enter the dreams of other demigods. Reyna notes that Nico can have an extremely heavy sleep at times, to the point that he won't even budge if Coach Hedge does a goat-hoof tap dance around Nico's head.
Phobikinesis: Nico radiates an intense aura of fear and death like his father, Hades, but to a much lesser degree. In The Last Olympian, this aura was so strong that Kronos' monsters initially backed away from him.
#💀| Headcanon {Nico}#(yeah some of this info comes from the wiki for Nico but I wanted to put it all in one place anyway so deal with it)#(I also left out a few that are on the wiki cause idk i didn't wanna make this TOO long of a post)#long post#long post for ts
genuinely i love Hades in Demigods of Olympus so much. he's so Just A Guy energy. like he has a great amount of god of the dead energy and general spookiness but also at one point he rises out of the ground corpse-bride style just to gently and silently nudge a pithos into the hole he just erupted out of with his foot and then just continues like nothing happened. he's worried about bad press from a zombie apocalypse. it's never mentioned explicitly but since it takes place during HoO he probably can't just ask Nico to do it cause Nico is busy and/or possibly actively in Tartarus. Hades is hanging out in New Orleans which is for zombie reasons but also you cannot convince me he's not also contemplating how he's gonna start trying to bond with Hazel again now that she's been revived and how to be a good dad to her so he's wandering her hometown to take notes while the Underworld is on fire. it's just perfect.
First Chapter (Prologue): here
Previous Chapter: here
It had been long enough since Jason had inadvertently betrayed them and or (depending on the point of view) accidentally brought their father down on them, that the wounds had healed over. When Jason and Nico came back in, Percy stumbled to his feet and launched himself at Jason, giving his friend a huge hug. Nico stayed just out of arms length - Percy drunk was a lethal combination of absolutely no coordination and no sense of strength and Nico had come close to death by strangulation more than once. Jason, pretty used to handling Percy drunk extradited himself with ease, and let Percy pull him back into the party circle.
"You're late Jason," Percy complained. "Like really late."
"I know," Jason said. "There was traffic. And I had to pick a couple of people up."
Nico turned rapidly to Jason, alarmed by the "couple". Who else was Jason hiding? Nico couldn't take any more surprises. It had to be bad for his health. Could he get Will to write him a note somehow? Dear universe, Nico has been through a lot so please excuse him from further surprises or other unpleasantness. Thanks (soon-ish to be) Doctor Solace.
The universe probably wouldn't pay the slightest bit of attention.
Nico was frowning at Jason trying to silently interrogate him on who this mysterious other person was, and if were any more sudden siblings Nico hadn't known about or seen in years he really would scream. Percy missed the entire thing, Jason just looked confused.
Nico's worries were assuaged anyway, when the door banged open and Leo appeared, blowing a party tooter.
"You can start the party now!" he called cheerily. "I am here!"
Leo was attacked in a death hug that nearly had the two of them on the floor.
"I thought you couldn't make it!" Percy was saying.
"Wouldn't miss this," Leo was saying. "Ooh are we playing games?"
Leo and Percy went back to the circle, Leo grabbed a shot from the bar on the way.
"How do you not drink at these things?" Nico demanded. "It's so stressful."
Jason gave him a wry smile.
"No more so than usual with you lot around," he commented. "Besides you can drink. Nothing stopping you. I honestly thought you'd be out of it by now, telling me all about the benefits of nihilism and orange juice or something."
Nico crossed his arms.
"I don't do that," he said.
"Uh-huh," Jason said.
"You know it must be nearly time to meet the girls," Jason continued, completely ignoring Nico’s glares to glance at his watch. Then he frowned distractedly.
"Hey," he said. "Where's Will?"
"Had to pick up a secret brother," Nico said. "He'll be here soon."
"Nico -" Jason began warningly, but Nico cut him off with a wave of his hand.
"I'm not over-thinking," he said.
"I'm not," he added when Jason seemed unconvinced. "I promised Reyna after all not to be a moron in relationships."
"So you'll listen to her?"
Nico scowled.
"I listen to you all the time. Like when you convinced me my boyfriend was a spy -"
Jason held up his hands in defeat and acceptance.
"Only for Russia and even then only at weekends," a familiar voice said. "Hey Jason."
"Hi Will," Jason said. "Will you tell Nico to stop-overthinking and start drinking?"
Will gave Nico a smirky kind of grin. He was stunning of course, but far from bowling him over like it used to it drew an internal eye roll. And okay maybe a small observation about how the colour of his smart-casual shirt really drew out the colour of his eyes. But over-all he was completely jaded to Will's superficial beauty.
"Go get drunk babe," Will said. Pet names and smirks were Will's weapons of choice in sarcasm and arguments and it was unfair they were so effective.
"Why are you still not drunk?" Will continued. "Have you not been to one of these before? Do you need me to explain what a stag do is for? Because they seem to be largely for getting everyone really drunk."
Nico stared at him.
"Why don't you tell Jason about the text you got from Luke, honey."
Will's smirk flickered back but then he looked more serious.
"Luke," Jason asked. "You've heard from Luke?"
"Only to say someone called Thalia is in trouble."
Jason went kind of pale, eyes flashing to the door as though he could see into the foyer beyond. Nico nudged Will pointedly.
"Thalia's his sister," he explained in a stage whisper.
Will closed his eyes.
"Well you might have mentioned that before, sweetie, in which case I might have been a bit more gentle with that news."
"It's fine," Jason said though he didn't sound especially fine. He sounded tired, even more tired than he'd been over the last month. "I'm fine. I guessed it must have been something bad. Thalia doesn't usually fall apart like that."
"No," Nico agreed with only a little sulleness. "She gets mad not sad. Anyway you can appreciate why I'm currently still alarmingly sober."
Will gave him an understanding smile.
"When do the girls get here?" he asked Jason, and how did Will know more details about this party than Nico? Were his boyfriend and best friend in cahoots now? Nico wasn't sure he liked that. Next they'd be ganging up on him about his relationship with vegetables or something.
"Any minute," Jason said, glancing at his watch again.
"Percy seems to be having fun at least," Will commented. "Why are all the shots blue?"
"Don't ask," Nico said.
Wil raised an eyebrow.
"Okay well, I don't mean to be insensitive but Luke's message didn't make it seem like danger was imminent. And Percy has been gesturing to us to go over for the last like minute so maybe we should act like we want to be here not aiming that at anyone specific but certain people here have expressions more suitable for a funeral. Not everyone. Certain people. It looks great on you, Love but maybe not the most appropriate."
Nico hit him in the arm, but he had a point. This was Percy's night.
Nico let him and Jason pull him down to where Percy and the others were still playing Percy or Annabeth.
"Last question," Connor called. "And the newcomers and party poopers - looking at you Nico - can join in on this one. Jason I know you don't drink so we got you some blue Gatorade."
"Thanks," Jason said. "I think.”
"Right for the win, who does Annabeth think is the most irresponsible?"
No one even bothered writing.
"Percy!" everyone chorused.
"Hey," Percy protested, but then he shrugged.
"Yeah," he said. "Okay."
The games over, Leo cranked up the sound on the speakers.
"Let's hit some pinatas!" he yelled.
If his self from a year ago had been told that one day he'd be having fun at Percy's stag do for a marriage that wasn't to him, with a boyfriend in tow there was no way he'd ever have believed it. Things had changed a lot, but maybe they were for the better. Mostly for the better anyway.
Will had glitter on his cheeks and in his hair from the pinatas. He presented Nico with a small packet of haribo. It was largely made up of rings.
"Are you proposing?" Nico asked as he took them. He was sitting up on the bar refusing to dance, and Will was in front of him dancing distractedly as he tried to convince Nico dancing would be fun. Leo had put the playlist together and some of the songs made Nico frown slightly but Will had professed that Leo had good taste which was practically grounds for divorce.
"Proposing?" Will asked, sounding innocently surprised. "So early into the relationship? We have to write letters to each other for at least another two weeks and then you'd have to ask my papa's permission."
"Oh shut up you southern belle," Nico said. "And you don't even know who your papa is."
Will put a hand to his heart, mortally offended.
"How could you say such a thing?" he asked, teasing and over-dramatic. "At least my father is not a criminal overlord."
"That is a very good point my dear," Nico said with a straight face. "But then at least I didn't actively work for him."
Will laughed.
"Come on," he said. "Come dance."
Nico sighed but he actually recognised the song, and Will was so pretty under the flashing lights, glitter sticking to his cheeks like extra stars in the constellations already clustering his face. He slipped down off the bar, bringing a shot with him, letting Will pull him onto the dance floor.
"So what's this one?" he asked.
"Huh?"
"The song?"
"I thought you knew it," Will said. "You started dancing the second it came on."
"That's a lie your honour," Nico said automatically. "Besides you can know a song without knowing the name."
Will shrugged an acquiesce at that. Before he could answer, however, the door burst open and Piper appeared.
"We're here!" she called. She had on a pretty top and a nice pair of shorts over which she wore huge underwear emblazoned with a generic superhero symbol. She had a cowgirl hat all neon pink and bright splotches of cow print lopsided on her head.
"Looks like the girls have been having fun," Will commented wryly. Nico smirked. He'd been around a drunk Piper only once but it had been an experience. He thought the drunk men she'd been hustling drinks out of at the bar were going to kill her when they finally caught on to the fact she was playing them.
"Don't make or take any bets around her," he warned.
Annabeth appeared in the doorway next, a princess crown and veil placed on her head equally lopsided.
"Percy!" she yelled. "Look who's here."
Thalia was close behind, smudgy make up still smudged, hair still ruffled but looking festive in a bright blue feather boa Annabeth had wrapped around her shoulders. Nico might not have gotten on particularly well with her but the glee with which Annabeth introduced her friend made Nico kind of glad she'd shown up, though the circumstances could have been better. Percy scrambled to his feet, rushed over to Thalia.
"Sparks!"
"Water Works," Thalia said. "Heard you were getting married. Notice I didn't get an invitation to the wedding."
Annabeth laughed.
"We had no idea where you were!" she said accusingly. "You're a good one for disappearing. But now you're back you can have the place of honour."
"Hey - " Piper broke in with a cheeky grin. "I thought that was going to me."
"You can have a joint place of honour with Piper. And we can have another hen night. Maybe in Europe. Should we go to Europe? Maybe Paris, I haven't been to Paris. Hey Percy let's go to Paris."
"Sure," Percy said cheerfully, without a real clue about what was going on. "I'll add it to the list."
The rest of Annabeth's friends had intermingled with Percy's. Shots were poured out and taken around for the girls.
"We were dancing," Will said, gently pulling Nico back by the arm.
"That was when I knew the song," Nico said.
Will fixed him with an unimpressed look.
"Everyone knows What is Love."
Nico couldn't really deny that.
"You know I hate dancing," he mumbled but he let Will pull him along anyway and somehow he stayed until the next song and the song after that. He didn't drink much after the first shots and joined Jason on the blue gatorade. Though Will thought Luke didn't think there was much danger, and didn't pose a threat, and though Thalia had shaken off whatever was upsetting her and was dancing happily with Annabeth and Piper, there was a small part Nico couldn't quite relax. Will, he noticed, followed his lead and didn't drink much at all. That was like a knife in Nico's chest: painful and making him go weak at the same time and it made him smile at Will and keep dancing. Will was a good distraction.
At some point Percy and Annabeth's outer circle of friends left, leaving him and Will, Jason and Piper, and Leo, and Thalia. They all sat out on the fire escape, wrapped in coats and various items of fancy dress that had been strewn around the bar. Nico sat back against Will's legs, listening to the music that still played, though more quietly, and watching as the sky turned pale blue and then tinged pink.
The others were talking - reminiscing, making plans - but he was content to listen, Will's fingers intertwined with his.
Tiredness was catching up with him. The others were starting to feel the effects too, but no one wanted to end the party. At some point Nico fell asleep woke again when Thalia and Piper, who had very quickly become best friends, starting singing Country Roads Take Me Home To The Plaaaace -and planning to quit their jobs that second and take a road trip. Leo was going on about all the best things about road trips when Nico's eyes shut again.
Will nudged him awake again when the sun was a yellowing disc just above the horizon.
"Time to go," he said softly.
The others were getting up, collecting their things. In the foyer Jason was organising taxis, trying to count them all and figure out who would be best to ride with who.
"Where are you staying Thalia?"
"With ussss!" Piper said enthusiastically, to both Thalia and Jason's surprise though both accepted it.
"Okay so that means the three of us in one taxi," Jason said.
"Nico you better go with Percy," he continued. That was usually Jason's job but Nico just shrugged.
"And then Will with you as well obviously but then that leaves Leo and Annabeth. Wait where are you staying Leo?"
"He's near me," Annabeth said. "That works."
Jason stared at the both of them, doubtingly. Leo had on a pair of sunglasses and though he was leaning against the wall he was tipping and tilting and he keeled over. Annabeth was swaying happily and in complete contrast to her sober self did not seem very with it at all.
"I'll go with them," Will volunteered, catching Jason's eye with a slight smile. "It's sort of on the way."
Will glanced at Nico and Nico shrugged and nodded.
"I'll see you at home."
Will left first with Leo and Annabeth who were looking most worst for wear. Him and Percy were supposed to be next but then Percy, who had been fiddling with his engagement band, lost the ring and was crawling around looking for it.
"You go," Nico said. "I'll get the ring and the groom into the next taxi."
Jason smirked.
"Practice for the wedding?" he asked.
"I freaking hope not," Nico answered.
Jason grinned and wished him a good night, taking his drunk girlfriend and tipsy sister with him. Nico watched Percy scrabbling around the floor for a moment and then with a sigh got down on his hands and knees and began searching.
"Found it!" Nico said extracting the ring from under the counter. "And that sounds like the taxi."
He handed pulled Percy to his feet and handed him the ring.
"Don't lose it again," he instructed sternly, but his attempts to be authorititive just had Percy giggling.
"You don't do that as much anymore," Percy commented as Nico dragged him towards the door.
"Do what?" Nico asked distractedly.
"Frown," Percy said.
Nico stopped dead, but Percy was too drunk to notice any significance in that.
"I don't know what you mean," he said quietly. He pulled himself together, pulled Percy onwards.
"I frown all the time," Nico continued. "Look I'm frowning now because you're not walking properly and you're going to pull us both over."
"Sorry," Percy said automatically.
"I'm glad you have Will though," Percy said, apparently reaching the soppy stages of his drunk pattern. Nico was surprised he hadn't gotten there sooner. Nico glanced at his friend, who was frowning in his attempts to put one foot in front of the other. There was no way Percy would remember this conversation in the morning.
"I'm glad too," Nico said softly. "And I'd quite like to get home so if you could hurry it up that would be great."
Percy gave him a sappy grin.
"I love you Neeks," he said. "You're like my favourite little brother."
"Great," Nico said.
Percy frowned.
"Ugh," Nico said. "I love you too. Now for goodness sake the driver is going to drive off without us at this rate."
Percy did make a concentrated effort to hurry up, for all the good it did their pace. It wasn't far to the door but Percy managed to turn it into a marathon. Luckily the car was still waiting, back door open. Nico poured Percy inside and got in after him, yanking the door shut. Nico gave Percy's address and driver moved off without a word.
Nico's eyes were getting heavy again and he kept thinking of collapsing in bed. He had to keep jerking his eyes open, glancing over at Percy to make sure he wasn't making trouble, before sinking back into a sleepy daze. Because he was so out of it, it took him far too long to figure out the car wasn't going the right way.
He frowned, just faintly puzzled at first. They weren't that far from where they should be. Maybe there had been a diversion. When the car took a right when it should have been a left, Nico felt the thrills of dread.
He didn't know what to do, and Percy was too drunk to be any help and drunk enough to be a huge liability. Did he say something to the driver? Maybe the driver had heard the address wrong or -
Or this was deliberate.
He swallowed and pulled out his phone. His battery was flashing low, down in very last dregs of red. He'd taken too many pictures of Percy and Leo for bribery purposes. That would teach him. He would probably only have time for one call, or one message. Who did he reach out for? The police? Jason? Will? They should really have a group chat for these kind of problems - help we've been kidnapped.
An incoming text from Jason made up his mind. Jason was clearly by his phone.
He tapped out a quick message - probably incoherent in his hurry to get it sent before the battery died. After it was sent he opened up his and Will's thread but the screen went black, the little charge symbol taunting him when he stabbed at the screen.
Nico glanced at the driver, a dark figure behind the glass, and then to Percy. He was staring out the window, apparently oblivious to everything, half mumbling half singing. It was that song, the one he'd first got up to dance to. Will had never gotten to tell him what it was. What if Nico got murdered now and Will never got to tell him and he'd die not knowing and Will wouldn't know what happened to him.
No need to panic though.
He nudged Percy gently.
"Have you got your phone?" he asked.
Percy rummaged in his pockets then shook his head.
"I think Jason might have had it. Or Annabeth. Or Leo took it at one point and was recording some monologue about -"
Nico tuned out. Great. Just great. They were trapped in a taxi with a possible mad-mass murderer and/or one of Luke's minions or someone from Jason's father which all really probably amounted to the same thing. And neither of them had a working phone.
Though he could still feel tiredness, it was held at bay by the tension coiled in him. When the car stopped he threw open the door, intending to pull Percy out with him, to make a run for it. Percy was entangled with his seat belt and didn't have enough urgency for it to work. As the driver opened his door, Nico raced around the car, opened up Percy's door.
"This isn't my house," Percy observed, reasonably calmly though there was an undercurrent of awareness rising to the surface. He was beginning to look alarmed.
"Hurry up," was all Nico said.
Percy turned back to his seat belt. Nico sensed someone behind him and he turned, too quickly. They'd come to a stop on a dirt driveway, muddy and slippery and his foot had caught on a rock. He went down, trying to catch at the door to save him but it swung in throwing him even more off balance. He was aware of a sharp pain as he hit his head on something and then there was black.
My first fanfic Pt. 3
Hi guys!! Firstly, I want to say SORRY for not uploading this sooner - I said it would be up soon and then waited THREE MONTHS :((( I am so sorry!!! But please still read it!! I’ll put the whole thing up as usual so you don’t have to scroll through old posts to find Pt. 1 and 2...! <3 Sorry guys!! Hope you like it...
THE LAST THOUGHT.
Will Solace woke with a start. Loud bangs were coming from his neighbour’s room again. He rolled over and peeked at his phone to check the time.
03:47.
What. The. Fuck.
Will groaned, hoping to god that they would stop moving and making such a racket soon, and he nestled his face back into his bright blue pillow decorated with suns. He exhaled, his blond curls drifting over his freckled forehead.
Bang. Bang. BANG.
Oh, for fuck’s sake, Will thought.
He had no idea what these noises were, but they had been happening for days now, ever since his new neighbour moved in.
He didn’t usually get annoyed, but it was all he could do to not scream at the wall in frustration. He hadn’t even met his new neighbour, as they seemed to never exit their apartment. Obviously still alive though, with all this noise. Will frowned, and wriggled further down his bed.
At first, he had hoped his new neighbour would be cute and funny and friendly (and, as Leo wouldn’t stop reminding him, “maybe even boyfriend material, amigo!”), but no such luck. He didn’t even know what gender his neighbour was, and after all this racket, he didn’t care if they were the sexiest man alive.
BANG.
Staring at his ceiling and cursing silently, he resolved to knock on their door tomorrow and sort this out…
***
Beep. Beep. Beep. BEEP. BEEP. BE-
“Ugh.”
Nico di Angelo smacked his alarm clock, swiping at his bedside table, and threw his black duvet over his head, grumbling about the loud noises he heard last night at an ungodly time that morning.
Nico only moved in a few days ago, but he didn’t want to make any effort to get to know his neighbours despite his half-sister Hazel’s insistence that he should “at least try to pretend he had friends and a bit of a life”. Although that made Hazel sound harsh, she was a lovely person and an even better sister, and she really cared for Nico, which is more than Nico could say of anyone else. Besides, she had a point. Nico had never really made an effort with people, mostly because he was terrified of what they’d think of him.
“Weirdo.” “He’s not normal.” “Bell-end.”
Nico buried his face in his mattress, curling up in a foetal position whilst trying to forget the high-school dicks that took great pleasure in tormenting him. High-school had ended a year ago. He was nineteen. He should be over this.
He wasn’t.
Nico looked at his alarm clock.
07:35.
He didn’t have to get up for anything, but getting up made him feel as if he had some sort of purpose in life, even if he just went back to sleep later. He sighed and got up slowly, rubbing his eyes and running a hand through his dark tousled hair.
“You’ve got to stop doing that, you’ll go bald Neeks!!” His sister’s voice echoed in his head. 9 years, and Bianca’s voice was still in his head.
He pushed a button on his De Longhi coffee machine and made himself an espresso. Hazel had referred to his new coffee machine as his “pride and joy” (which, Nico thought, was quite accurate as he was pretty sure his body was 90% coffee beans). He slumped onto his black leather armchair that his millionaire father had “generously” deigned to give him, coffee in hand, and thought about the sleep he’d missed. Whatever Hazel said, after these annoying banging noises, Nico was even more certain he never wanted to get to know his stupid neighbour.
***
When Will woke up to his alarm, he felt as if he’d only been sleeping for a second since he’d been disturbed earlier.
“Bloody new neighbour with their bloody nocturnal habits…”
Will looked at his phone, and cursed when he read the text that his friend Piper had sent him.
“WILL I AM TOTALLY SCREWED FOR TODAY. SERIOUSLY.”
“Shit. Shit. Fuck. Shit.” Will groaned and put his palms to his forehead in annoyance. They had a test today that he had completely and utterly forgotten about.
Med school was turning out to be way harder than he thought. Not that he expected it to be easy, exactly, but the tests every week were even starting to wear him down, and he was definitely the most upbeat person there.
He got out of bed and ruffled his hair, pulling up his pyjama trousers so he didn’t trip over the bottom of them, and shuffled into the kitchen area of his flat.
Oh no.
Will looked around at his flat and wrinkled his nose. Pizza boxes and beer bottles covered the floor from last night. Why had he allowed Leo to come over?! It always ended like this, and Leo never ever helped tidy up. For one person, Leo not only ate like a horse, but also made so much mess it looked like a hippo had rampaged through the room.
Will sighed and rubbed his forehead. He was already running a little late and couldn’t afford to clean all this up now, so instead of sorting it out, he wandered to the fridge, pulled out a yoghurt and sat down. His phone buzzed.
“WILL I SWEAR TO ALL THE GODS I CAN’T DO THIS TODAY.”
Will wasn’t worried. Piper said this every morning there was a test and somehow managed to get above 80% every time. People usually would find this annoying. But Will chuckled. He loved Piper, as she was the only other med student who, when faced with Will’s bright clothing and incessant smile, grinned just as widely and said “I like you!”. Naturally, people thought they were going out, but Will didn’t mind it. It was better than having to openly admit the truth.
“You are not allowed to like boys, William. It is not normal.”
His mother’s voice echoed in his head.
At least with Piper herself, Will didn’t have to pretend. Piper knew straight away that Will was gay, and that didn’t bother her at all. In fact, she made it her mission to point out all the men she thought “worthy”. Once, Piper walked up to a guy in their class, and pointed in his face, wiggling her eyebrows at Will. Of course, at the time, Will was so embarrassed, he went tomato-red, but now Will giggled and blushed slightly at the memory. He really did love Piper.
He checked the time again.
08:05.
He suddenly remembered his resolution to confront his new neighbour.
Maybe that can wait till tomorrow…? Will mused, not really desiring any sort of conflict. Or maybe just after class… He decided to wait until later to choose.
He tugged at a strand of hair that fell in front of his blue eyes, wrestling with the possibility of calling in sick to avoid the test. But, as usual, Will felt guilty at even the thought of that, and so texted Piper to say he was on his way, and went back to his bedroom to get dressed.
Okay… he thought, as he left the apartment. Time to face the music.
***
Nico heard a bang as his neighbour left their apartment. He guessed they were quite clumsy, because every single morning he heard a thud as they closed their door, occasionally accompanied by an “Ow!”. Nico rolled his eyes and sighed. Clearly, this neighbour was deaf or something, especially considering all the loud noises that had been emanating from the flat next door.
Nico put his coffee mug down on the ridiculously expensive black marble coffee table, (another “present” from his father) stretched in his armchair and dropped his head back, glaring at the ceiling.
Wasn’t the whole point of not being in school so that I could restart my life? Find a hobby? A career? A friend…?
Nico sighed and rubbed his eyes. A friend was the least likely of the three he would ever have. He never had got along with people. People didn’t get along with me, he thought. Not since Bianca died… Nico breathed deeply. He really missed her. He missed her ability to cheer him up with only a look, the constant glint in her eye, her laugh, her energy, her voice…
Great. Wallowing in self-pity. Nice.
A faint buzz interrupted his sombre thoughts. Nico forced himself to stand up, glancing at his mobile phone that he’d chucked on the kitchen worktop.
Neeks. Emergency with Dad. Hazel xx
Ugh. Leave it to our father to screw things up.
Be right there N x
Nico picked up his keys and was about to step out of the door when he looked down and realised he was still wearing his novelty Darth Vader pyjamas that Hazel had given him as a joke. Nico smirked despite himself, and went back to his room to quickly pull on black jeans and his ACDC t-shirt. Hazel called this his “rock-emo look”, but Nico had always felt black was his colour.
Yet another thing people at school took the piss out of me for.
He tugged his trainers on, grabbed his leather jacket and stepped out the door, raising his eyebrow at a mound of miscellaneous cardboard that resembled…pizza boxes?…outside his neighbour’s door.
Typical, he thought, turning his back on the curious disorganised lump and striding through the corridor to the outside world.
***
Well, that was awful.
Will ran his hand through his hair, frowning at the space where his test had been. He sighed, and looked over at Piper who was grinning at him, mouthing “THAT WAS NOT TOO BAD”, and he made an extreme pouty grumpy face to show her that he did not feel the same. Piper winked at him and stuck her tongue out, her hazel eyes shining.
Will sulked, wrinkling his nose and scrunching his eyebrows together, but couldn’t hold back a snort of laughter when Piper stood up and melodramatically blew him a kiss. Piper tossed her braided hair over her shoulder and winked again, giggling at Will as he struggled to keep a straight face. Will really loved her to bits.
“Why the looooong face, Will?”
Will looked up from his seat and met Piper’s inquiring eyes, and shrugged his shoulders. “Pipes, the test was so bad. I don’t even know if I answered half of the questions in comprehensible English!”
Piper tilted her head to one side, her choppy fringe drifting across her forehead, and put her hand on his shoulder. “Oh, I’m sure it wasn’t as bad as you thought it was!” She grinned and ducked to catch Will’s eye, and he smirked back, standing up to sling his rucksack over his shoulder. They walked for a minute or so in silence. Will was still worrying about the test, and Piper wasn’t sure whether she should interrupt his thoughts. They stopped outside their classroom and Piper checked her phone.
“Ooh we’ve still got ten minutes! Shall we just stay here?” Will nodded, but stayed quiet. Piper frowned, but then her face lit up with a wide smile. “I have something for you!”
Will frowned at Piper. “Ummm Pipes, last time you said that, you introduced me to Leo. I don’t need to remind you how well that turned out.”
“Oh Will, don’t be so dramatic, you love Leo now!”
“Yeah I do”, Will admitted, “but not in the way you hoped!”
Piper chuckled, and pulled something that resembled a fur-ball out of her tote bag. “Here.” She pressed it into his hand.
“Pipes…why have you given me a dead rat?”
“It is not a dead rat! Jeez, Will. Is this the thanks I get for giving you a lucky rabbit’s foot?”
“A what?!” Will dropped it, squeaking and wrinkling his freckled nose in disgust. Piper picked it up again, putting a hand on her hip and waving the foot at Will.
“A lucky rabbit’s foot. According to mum, it’s meant to bring you all the luck you need!”
Will looked at the strange object, slightly freaked out by the idea of it having belonged to a real animal. “Well if it was so lucky, you could’ve given it to me before the stupid test then…” Will grumbled, gingerly taking the foot and stuffing it in his jeans pocket.
“Will, why are you being such a grump today?” Piper pouted, furrowing her eyebrows.
Will looked at her and sighed, feeling guilty. “Sorry Pipes, I just didn’t get a good night’s sleep. It’s this neighbour! They don’t seem to understand that 4am is not an appropriate time to refurbish their flat!”
Piper studied Will’s face for a second, before bursting out laughing. Will felt his face grow hot, and was slightly confused at Piper’s reaction.
“What?! Pipes this isn’t funny! It is so annoying and I can’t get any sleep and it’s endless and- PIPER!”
Piper was crying with laughter, doubled over and cackling loudly. “I’m sorry Will, it’s just, your face, and you looked…so furious” Piper wheezed, and Will stood opposite her looking disapprovingly. Piper was just standing there, guffawing in the middle of the corridor.
“Are you quite finished?” Will crossed his arms, attempting to look annoyed, but really just smiling along with her.
Piper had tears streaming down her face, and was laughing so hard that she was spluttering, and she started coughing loudly.
“Oh god, Pipes! Are you okay?!”
Piper just nodded and giggled, and Will rolled his eyes at his friend.
“Pipes, you are certifiably insane.”
“I’m not the one who sounds like a grandpa at the age of 19!”
Will chuckled, and just as he did so, the bell rang to signal the start of class. Ugh, Will thought. More brain-work.
As they wandered into the classroom, Piper mused “So…Will…this neighbour…are they cute?”. Will turned around to Piper winking, with a mischievous glint in her eye, and he rolled his eyes for the second time in five minutes.
Yet, as Will sat down and pulled out his books from his bag, he found himself thinking… what if they are…?
***
Slipping his motorbike keys into his pocket, Nico knocked on Hazel's door. He hadn't noticed his father's black Mercedes S-class outside, which was confusing, as Hazel had clearly mentioned trouble with their father. Nico figured that, in usual crap father-style, he had left after upsetting Hazel.
Probably without even apologising or realising he had upset her. That would be classic oblivious and uncaring dad.
Nico sighed, knocking again on Hazel's golden door of her flat. Nico remembered the day she picked that colour. He had thought then that it was absolutely ridiculous to have a golden door, but Hazel's heart was set on it. And when that happens, I know to let her have it.
"Hey, Neeks!!"
Nico flinched at Hazel's bright, unwavering smile and her diamanté-studded top. She leapt onto him, giving him a huge hug, and he smelt her coconut shampoo in her caramel corkscrew-curls as she buried her face into his chest.
He couldn't help but smile as his sister stepped away and, with a little faux curtsey, waved him into her apartment.
"Coffee?" Hazel sweetly smiled, and gestured to the coffee machine.
Nico chuckled softly. "Go on, then."
Hazel beamed, and walked towards the marble countertop in her kitchen.
Nico was almost grinning too until he remembered why he had come in the first place.
Dad.
Nico took a deep breath and looked at Hazel, rubbing his arm in nervousness. "So...what happened...?" Nico studied Hazel's face. She still seemed surprisingly cheerful.
"What happened when, Neeks?"
"Um...wi-with dad?" Nico frowned, confused and concerned that Hazel was showing no signs of worry or distress. "As in, when he came over...what did he say?"
Hazel wrinkled her nose, pouring some coffee beans into the coffee machine. "...hm?"
"Hazel. You texted me?!" Nico exclaimed, now even more confused than ever.
“Oh, aha I did, didn’t I?”
“…Hazel…?!” Nico’s eyes narrowed, impatient for an explanation.
“Ummm…” Hazel looked at the ground. “I lied.”
“What do you mean? Why…?” Nico scanned her face, attempting to detect any slight hint of an explanation.
“I wanted to ask you something…kinda…important…and wanted to, well, make sure you came over…” Hazel mumbled.
Nico felt guilty as he saw his sister shift, seemingly uncomfortable, tugging on a curl.
“Hey…”, Nico stepped towards Hazel and rubbed her arm. “I’ll be here for you whenever, you know that.” Nico frowned, worried, and nudged Hazel’s arm, as if supplicating an explanation.
Hazel took a deep breath, and nibbled on her bottom lip.
“Well…basically…there’s this…ummmm…” Hazel blushed slightly.
“Yes…?”
“Guy.” Hazel squeaked out, looking everywhere but at Nico.
Nico’s eyes widened and his eyebrows almost shot upwards and off his face. He looked at Hazel, and she met his gaze with worried eyes. Then, Nico snorted.
“What…?! Neeks!! What is it?!”
Nico doubled over laughing, wheezing slightly. Any semblance of a ‘bad boy’ persona had evaporated as Nico started crying with laughter, shaking slightly as he spluttered:
“Nothing…aha…nothing! Just – Well I – I thought you were about to tell me something awful! Not that you liked a boy!”
Hazel punched Nico in the arm. “This is serious!!” she exclaimed, with a fiery look in her eyes.
Nico looked at his sister, attempting to keep a straight face. “Alright, alright! I’m – aha – I’m sorry!”
Hazel blushed furiously, turning her back on Nico. “Here’s your coffee.” She said, plonking it down on the kitchen surface in front of him.
“Hey, Hazel…I think it’s great you have found someone. Really.” Nico smiled at her. “What’s his name?”
“Frank.” Hazel grumpily supplied.
Nico tried to suppress another chuckle that almost forced its way out of his mouth. He coughed, “Ah, how do you know him?”
“School. He’s in my Art History class.”
“Great! I know how much you love that.” Nico smirked. “…He isn’t the reason you’ve been gushing about those classes is he…?”
Hazel narrowed her eyes, lightly punching Nico’s arm again. “Shut up! No, he is not!!”
Nico snickered, and this time Hazel couldn’t help herself either. She giggled and gave Nico a hug, and Nico wrapped his arms around her, giving her a little squeeze and resting his head on the top of her caramel curls.
“Honestly Hazel, I’m so happy for you.” Nico stepped away, grinning again. “So…when can I meet this Frank?”
“Neeks! It is not anywhere near serious! And you are not scaring him off, okay?!”
Nico raised his hands in surrender. “No of course not!” He smirked. “Just need to make sure he’s good enough for my little sis.”
“Hmmm...” Hazel raised an eyebrow. “How about…no?”
“Awww come on Hazel, I’m intrigued now!” Nico smirked again.
“Not now!” Hazel narrowed her eyes cunningly. “Anyway, what about you?! Is there anyone for you, big bro?”
Nico just rolled his eyes and shrugged.
Yeah right, as if there would ever be anyone who would like me.
***
Will pushed his shoulder into his door, turning the key. He threw his bag on the floor and slumped into a chair at the kitchen table, resting his hands on his temples.
“Ughhh…” Will groaned. That last class had been hell. Will had been completely lost from start to finish, and he got a headache in the last 20 minutes that had made it even more impossible to concentrate.
His phone buzzed, and Will glanced at it, still cradling his temples.
“Hey amigo, you still up for the party tonight?”
Shit.
Will had forgotten that Leo had invited him to a college party, and if he was brutally honest, he really did not want to go. But, he also didn’t want to let Leo down.
He started typing:
“Hi bro, yeah I would love to!”
Then he remembered the last time he went to one of Leo’s college parties. Will had been left all alone within 5 minutes of him arriving because Leo had found some poor girl to spend the night with, and Will ended up sitting on a sofa with two other guys who kept asking him whether he’d be up for a threesome.
Ugh.
“Actually, I’m sorry bro, I’m not feeling too well. Hope you have fun!”
Will sent it, relieved that he had made the decision not to go, and slipped his phone back into his pocket. He stood up, sighing, and thought of the sleep he had lost the previous night. Will then remembered he still had to confront his neighbour about that.
Maybe some other time…
He picked up his bag and made his way towards his bedroom, collapsing on his bed with his bag under him and his shoes still on.
Knock. Knock. Knock.
Will frowned into his pillow. Surely that wasn’t someone knocking on his door? He had already told Leo he couldn’t go this evening, and he wasn’t expecting Piper.
KNOCK. KNOCK. KNOCK.
This time Will couldn’t pretend it wasn’t for him. He scrambled to his feet, shuffling out of his bedroom. He opened his door.
Wow.
Will was greeted by, put quite simply, the most beautiful man he had ever seen. He had thick, wavy, jet-black hair, gently parted at the side, and was wearing a leather jacket that hugged his shoulders and arms. His skinny black jeans accentuated his muscular yet lean physique, and Will’s eyes widened as he noticed a strip of skin peeking out between his ACDC t-shirt and the waistband of his jeans. Will suddenly felt extremely underdressed in his light blue jeans and yellow t-shirt. He hurriedly attempted to smooth down his curly hair, which was undoubtedly tousled from his earlier collapse onto his bed.
“Um. Hi.”
Idiot. Hi?! Any stupid person can just say hi!!
“Hello. I’m your neighbour. Nico di Angelo.”
“Hi.”
Again with the hi?! AGH!
“Um, I mean hi. Nice to meet you Nathan.”
“Nico.”
FUCK.
“Nico, sorry! It has been a long day! …I like your um…jacket.”
I LIKE YOUR JACKET?! William Solace what are you doing you stupid man?!
“Thank you. I was actually knocking to…to say hello.”
Will grinned broadly. “Oh, well hello!”
Nico looked slightly surprised. “Er…what’s your name?”
Stupid!! Why didn’t Will say his name before?!
“Oh, I’m Will. Will Solace.”
“Great.”
Great…? What did that mean…?
Will felt himself blush furiously as he had eye contact with Nico’s chocolate-brown eyes, and averted his gaze.
“Well, it was nice to meet you.”
“Yeah, you too – er, Nico.”
“Goodbye.”
“Bye.”
Will closed his door, and leant against it. What had just happened?! Will had a god for a next-door neighbour. An actual god. He was gorgeous! And his voice…so rich and…well… sexy. Will took a deep breath, attempting to register what had just happened. He slid down to the floor by his door and put his hands on his cheeks. He was burning hot!
Ugh…I probably looked a right red idiot! Getting his name wrong, and then complimenting him on his jacket…Argh…!
He closed his eyes and tried to imagine his neighbour’s face again, still in slight shock from the encounter.
***
What just happened?!
Nico walked back into his apartment, and sat in his armchair. At first, he hadn’t even wanted to meet his neighbour, but then he resolved to confront them about the loud noises, before it got even worse. He had been so ready to get angry, but something had happened. He just lost all sense of anger when he looked at…Will, was it? There was something about him that made any anger he had dissipate…Something about his freckled face and curly blonde hair that slightly stuck in all directions…and his tight jeans…and his even tighter yellow t-shirt…
He looked down at his outfit and cursed slightly. He looked like an overgrown middle schooler that listened to music alone in his room. But why would that bother him? It never usually did, in fact, he revelled in the fact that he still rocked the all-black look and didn’t care what people thought.
Idiot.
Nico relaxed into his chair, crossing his ankles. He thought back to Will’s grin…how it lit up his whole face, illuminating his already perfect features, making his blue eyes sparkle.
Shit.
Nico’s eyes widened.
What am I thinking?! Perfect features?! Sparkling eyes?! Oh gods…
Nico chewed on his bottom lip, sighing heavily.
This cannot be happening. I don’t even know this guy! Next time I see him, I will confront him about the noises. Maybe he has a boyfriend…? Or girlfriend…
Nico stopped himself from thinking too hard about the possibility of his neighbour having a partner.
Ugh.
Nico closed his eyes.
What is happening…?
My first fanfic Pt. 2 (It has the first part in it too!)
THE LAST THOUGHT.
Will Solace woke with a start. Loud bangs were coming from his neighbour’s room again. He rolled over and peeked at his phone to check the time.
03:47.
What. The. Fuck.
Will groaned, hoping to god that they would stop moving and making such a racket soon, and he nestled his face back into his bright blue pillow decorated with suns. He exhaled, his blond curls drifting over his freckled forehead.
Bang. Bang. BANG.
Oh for fuck’s sake, Will thought.
He had no idea what these noises were, but they had been happening for days now, ever since his new neighbour moved in.
He didn’t usually get annoyed, but it was all he could do to not scream at the wall in frustration. He hadn’t even met his new neighbour, as they seemed to never exit their apartment. Obviously still alive though, with all this noise. Will frowned, and wriggled further down his bed.
At first, he had hoped his new neighbour would be cute and funny and friendly (and, as Leo wouldn’t stop reminding him, “maybe even boyfriend material, amigo!”), but no such luck. He didn’t even know what gender his neighbour was, and after all this racket, he didn’t care if they were the sexiest man alive.
BANG.
Staring at his ceiling and cursing silently, he resolved to knock on their door tomorrow and sort this out…
***
Beep. Beep. Beep. BEEP. BEEP. BE-
“Ugh.”
Nico di Angelo smacked his alarm clock, swiping at his bedside table, and threw his black duvet over his head, grumbling about the loud noises he heard last night at an ungodly time that morning.
Nico only moved in a few days ago, but he didn’t want to make any effort to get to know his neighbours despite his half-sister Hazel’s insistence that he should “at least try to pretend he had friends and a bit of a life”. Although that made Hazel sound harsh, she was a lovely person and an even better sister, and she really cared for Nico, which is more than Nico could say of anyone else. Besides, she had a point. Nico had never really made an effort with people, mostly because he was terrified of what they’d think of him.
“Weirdo.” “He’s not normal.” “Bell-end.”
Nico buried his face in his mattress, curling up in a foetal position whilst trying to forget the high-school dicks that took great pleasure in tormenting him. High-school had ended a year ago. He was nineteen. He should be over this.
He wasn’t.
Nico looked at his alarm clock.
07:35.
He didn’t have to get up for anything, but getting up made him feel as if he had some sort of purpose in life, even if he just went back to sleep later. He sighed and got up slowly, rubbing his eyes and running a hand through his dark tousled hair.
“You’ve got to stop doing that, you’ll go bald Neeks!!” His sister’s voice echoed in his head. 9 years, and Bianca’s voice was still in his head.
He pushed a button on his De Longhi coffee machine and made himself an espresso. Hazel had referred to his new coffee machine as his “pride and joy” (which, Nico thought, was quite accurate as he was pretty sure his body was 90% coffee beans). He slumped onto his black leather armchair that his millionaire father had “generously” deigned to give him, coffee in hand, and thought about the sleep he’d missed. Whatever Hazel said, after these annoying banging noises, Nico was even more certain he never wanted to get to know his stupid neighbour.
***
When Will woke up to his alarm, he felt as if he’d only been sleeping for a second since he’d been disturbed earlier.
“Bloody new neighbour with their bloody nocturnal habits…”
Will looked at his phone, and cursed when he read the text that his friend Piper had sent him.
“WILL I AM TOTALLY SCREWED FOR TODAY. SERIOUSLY.”
“Shit. Shit. Fuck. Shit.” Will groaned and put his palms to his forehead in annoyance. They had a test today that he had completely and utterly forgot about.
Med school was turning out to be way harder than he thought. Not that he expected it to be easy, exactly, but the tests every week were even starting to wear him down, and he was definitely the most upbeat person there.
He got out of bed and ruffled his hair, pulling up his pyjama trousers so he didn’t trip over the bottom of them, and shuffled into the kitchen area of his flat.
Oh no.
Will looked around at his flat and wrinkled his nose. Pizza boxes and beer bottles covered the floor from last night. Why had he allowed Leo to come over?! It always ended like this, and Leo never ever helped tidy up. For one person, Leo not only ate like a horse, but also made so much mess it looked like a hippo had rampaged through the room.
Will sighed and rubbed his forehead. He was already running a little late and couldn’t afford to clean all this up now, so instead of sorting it out, he wandered to the fridge, pulled out a yoghurt and sat down. His phone buzzed.
“WILL I SWEAR TO ALL THE GODS I CAN’T DO THIS TODAY.”
Will wasn’t worried. Piper said this every morning there was a test and somehow managed to get above 80% every time. People usually would find this annoying. But Will chuckled. He loved Piper, as she was the only other med student who, when faced with Will’s bright clothing and incessant smile, grinned just as widely and said “I like you!”. Naturally, people thought they were going out, but Will didn’t mind it. It was better than having to openly admit the truth.
First attempt...
Hi guys! So, I've never written fanfic before (ever!!) and so I have started one in the PJO fandom that is Solangelo-centred. It would make me so so so happy if any of you could read the first chapter and let me know what you think??? I might carry it on if you think it is alright? Lots of love!! XxX THE LAST THOUGHT. Will Solace woke with a start. Loud bangs were coming from his neighbour's room again. He rolled over and peeked at his phone to check the time. 03:47. What. The. Fuck. Will groaned, hoping to god that they would stop moving and making such a racket soon, and he nestled his face back into his bright blue pillow decorated with suns. He exhaled, his blond curls drifting over his freckled forehead. Bang. Bang. BANG. "Oh for fuck's sake." Will thought. He had no idea what these noises were, but they had been happening for days now, ever since his new neighbour moved in. He didn't usually get annoyed, but it was all he could do to not scream at the wall in frustration. He hadn't even met his new neighbour, as they seemed to never exit their apartment. "Obviously still alive though, with all this noise", Will frowned, and wriggled further down his bed. At first, he had hoped his new neighbour would be cute and funny and friendly (and, as Leo wouldn't stop reminding him, "maybe even boyfriend material, amigo!"), but no such luck. He didn't even know what gender his neighbour was, and after all this racket, he didn't care if they were the sexiest man alive. BANG. Staring at his ceiling and cursing silently, he resolved to knock on their door tomorrow and sort this out... *** Beep. Beep. Beep. BEEP. BEEP. BE- "Ugh." Nico di Angelo smacked his alarm clock, swiping at his bedside table, and threw his black duvet over his head, grumbling about the loud noises he heard last night at an ungodly time that morning. Nico only moved in a few days ago, but he didn't want to make any effort to get to know his neighbours despite his half-sister Hazel's insistence that he should "at least try to pretend he had friends and a bit of a life". Although that made Hazel sound harsh, she was a lovely person and an even better sister, and she really cared for Nico, which is more than Nico could say of anyone else. Besides, she had a point. Nico had never really made an effort with people, mostly because he was terrified of what they'd think of him. "Weirdo." "He's not normal." "Bell-end." Nico buried his face in his mattress, curling up in a foetal position whilst trying to forget the high-school dicks that took great pleasure in tormenting him. High-school had ended a year ago. He was nineteen. He should be over this. He wasn't. Nico looked at his alarm clock. 07:35. He didn't have to get up for anything, but getting up made him feel as if he had some sort of purpose in life, even if he just went back to sleep later. He sighed and got up slowly, rubbing his eyes and running a hand through his dark tousled hair. "You've got to stop doing that, you'll go bald Neeks!!" His sister's voice echoed in his head. 9 years, and Bianca's voice was still in his head. He pushed a button on his De Longhi coffee machine and made himself an espresso. Hazel had referred to his new coffee machine as his "pride and joy" (which, Nico thought, was quite accurate as he was pretty sure his body was 90% coffee beans). He slumped onto his black leather armchair that his millionaire father had "generously" deigned to give him, coffee in hand, and thought about the sleep he'd missed. Whatever Hazel said, after these annoying banging noises, Nico was even more certain he never wanted to get to know his stupid neighbour. *** When Will woke up to his alarm, he felt as if he'd only been sleeping for a second since he'd been disturbed earlier. "Bloody new neighbour with their bloody nocturnal habits..." Will looked at his phone, and cursed when he read the text that his friend Piper had sent him. "WILL I AM TOTALLY SCREWED FOR TODAY. SERIOUSLY." "Shit. Shit. Fuck. Shit." Will groaned and put his palms to his forehead in annoyance. They had a test today that he had completely and utterly forgot about. Med school was turning out to be way harder than he thought. Not that he expected it to be easy, exactly, but the tests every week were even starting to wear him down, and he was definitely the most upbeat person there. He got out of bed and ruffled his hair, pulling up his pyjama trousers so he didn't trip over the bottom of them, and shuffled into the kitchen area of his flat. "Oh no." Will looked around at his flat and wrinkled his nose. Pizza boxes and beer bottles covered the floor from last night. Why had he allowed Leo to come over?! It always ended like this, and Leo never ever helped tidy up. For one person, Leo not only ate like a horse, but also made so much mess it looked like a hippo had rampaged through the room. Will sighed and rubbed his forehead. He was already running a little late and couldn't afford to clean all this up now, so instead of sorting it out, he wandered to the fridge, pulled out a yoghurt and sat down. His phone buzzed. "WILL I SWEAR TO ALL THE GODS I CAN'T DO THIS TODAY." Will wasn't worried. Piper said this every morning there was a test and somehow managed to get above 80% every time. People usually would find this annoying. But Will chuckled. He loved Piper, as she was the only other med student who, when faced with Will's bright clothing and incessant smile, grinned just as widely and said "I like you!". Naturally, people thought they were going out, but Will didn't mind it. It was better than having to openly admit the truth. "You are not allowed to like boys, William. It is not normal." His mother's voice echoed in his head. At least with Piper herself, Will didn't have to pretend. Piper knew straight away that Will was gay, and that didn't bother her at all. In fact, she made it her mission to point out all the men she thought "worthy". Once, Piper walked up to a guy in their class, and pointed in his face, wiggling her eyebrows at Will. Of course, at the time, Will was so embarrassed, he went tomato-red, but now Will giggled and blushed slightly at the memory. He really did love Piper. He checked the time again. 08:05. He suddenly remembered his resolution to confront his new neighbour. "Maybe that can wait till tomorrow...?" Will mused, not really desiring any sort of conflict. "Or maybe just after class..." He decided to wait until later to choose. He tugged at a strand of hair that fell in front of his blue eyes, wrestling with the possibility of calling in sick to avoid the test. But, as usual, Will felt guilty at even the thought of that, and so texted Piper to say he was on his way, and went back to his bedroom to get dressed. "Okay..." he thought, as he left the door. "Time to face the music." *** 💗
