Prompt 20 - Florist AU
@wolfstarmicrofic April 20, word count 669
Every morning, Remus had to walk past a florist to get to work. He’d go the other way, but it was so much longer and going this way cut a whole ten minutes off his commute.
He had to bury his face in his jumper as he walked past. Even on the other side of the road, the smell was pungent. It made his eyes water, and he’d sneeze for hours afterwards. But he’d never been inside.
His favourite work colleague had just found out she was pregnant, and he wanted to get her a gift. Her name was Lily, so he wanted to get her one in congratulations, as she’d mentioned years ago that it was lucky that her favourite flowers were lilies or else that would be awkward.
A little bell tinkled as he pushed the door open. The shop was full to bursting with blooms of every colour and variety you could wish for. He was instantly overwhelmed by the smell and the choice. He took shallow, even breaths in through his mouth so as not to aggravate his nostrils.
A man dressed entirely in black, not a single bit of colour on him, appeared through a beaded curtain that Remus supposed led to the back rooms and flashed a dazzling smile at him.
“Hello and welcome to Kabloom, where all our flowers are an explosion of colour and perfume!” The man proclaimed proudly. “My name is Sirius. How may I be of service this fine, fine day?” Remus was quite taken aback by the level of exuberance Sirius emitted.
“My friend is having a baby, and I wanted to get her a lily,” Remus said as he glanced around at the shop, unsure what a lily actually looked like.
“Aww, how lovely. I must check, though, that she doesn’t have a cat. Just because lilies are extremely toxic to them.” Sirius warned.
“No, she doesn’t have a cat. I think she’s got a goldfish, though.” He added.
“I don’t know about goldfish, but yeah, lilies are really bad for cats. Okay, so I think the Lilium candidum would be perfect. It’s got these beautiful delicate petals and smells wonderful.” Sirius darted to the left and grabbed a pot with a lot of small green leaves along a tall stalk. The top was adorned with wide-open flowerheads with bright yellow pollen on the tips of long fingers, making them look like matches. He handed it over to Remus. “It does best outside but can be potted in a suitable pot in the house as long as it’s provided with adequate sunlight. It may need staking as it grows.”
“Thank you,” Remus said gratefully, happy to have the burden of choice taken away from him. “How much do I owe you?” Sirius went behind the till and punched something into the till.
“That one will set you back £25, but I will accept a date as payment if that is amenable to you?” A sweet smile played across Sirius’s lips, and that’s when Remus noticed just how blue Sirius’s eyes were. The man didn’t need to wear coloured clothing when his eyes sparkled like that. Remus cleared his throat. He was taking too much time to respond.
“Yes. Yes, I’d quite like that.”
They exchanged numbers so they could plan their date.
“I swear I’ve never done this before,” Sirius swore, clearly not wanting Remus to think he exchanged flowers for dates with people all the time. “I just wanted to get to know you.” Sirius had ducked his head, trying to hide his rising blush.
“Well, I’m flattered. I don’t get asked out very often.” Remus confessed.
“Then everyone’s an idiot,” Sirius declared, making Remus blush this time. He left the shop not long after, carrying his lily carefully.
Now, every morning, Remus left his flat a full half an hour early just so he could pop his head into that florist and chat with its owner. The smell didn’t seem to bother him anymore, either.

Just finished Beneath a Big Blue Sky by eyra for literally the millionth time and honestly I don’t think that fic will ever NOT take my breath away. It was the first fic I read that made me fall in love with muggle aus and it holds such a special place in my heart. I could read about sheep dads Remus and Sirius forever and never grow tired of them honestly

For their reunion, I imagine So Mi feeling apprehensive. She's not sure how V will react to her. Is there any anger there as the clock continues to tick? Is V cured or is she still dying? And then there's V when they see each other in person again... She just stares at So Mi and swallows hard before saying, "Hey, Song," all damn soft and before So Mi can really process, V's crying right in front of her. It's a relief seeing So Mi's in better shape now (maybe she was able to have parts of her body regenerated from chrome). V hasn't cried since Jackie passed. She doesn't trust her own voice not to break so she doesn't say anything else to So Mi. Just trying to keep it together.

I love it that my friends are my family not by blood. They just accept me for who I am and even if we're not close atm, I can count on them. The opposite, my family. Who's homophobic and Catholic that don't accept the fact that I'm a lesbian. I can't even say that word because I feel frightened that somebody would hate me just because of me calling myself that. And my friends, with whom I feel safe, like the family should make me feel. I feel warmth with them, like the family should give me. That's the perfect example, that you don't choose your family. But family is not only family because of the blood. It's because of the hearts. That's what matter.

BLUE BEETLE X TF AU?
What if there is a linkage through the jungle planet or the ones with Insecticons? What about scientists who attempted to learn more about the Insecticons or animals and they used the CNA from those Cybertronians to assist with their experiment to help them? What if they were techno-organics? Perhaps they wished to study and ended up with technology and experiments? Imagine if it was a relic that bestowed some power? What if there were other deities like the Primes or something else?
Similar to how the Matrix chose Orion, Khaji da chose Jaime Reyes?

What does your muse like (or perhaps “remember fondly”) about [Shadow Man]? (Orion pt 3, widower edition)
Headcanon/Development Questions (still accepting!)
Tumblr media
((To say "everything" would be too simple of an answer, and yet "everything" was as close to the truth as it could ever be.
Orion liked the shape of Shadow's nose, and the tired, half-lidded gaze Shadow near permanently wore -- almost sleepy-looking, except he knew better than to mistake that expression for genuine drowsiness. He liked the silkiness of Shadow's hair, and running his hands through it. He'd always felt disappointed when Shadow tucked it back up under his hood. He liked the way his hands fit into Shadow's, like they were meant to be there. He liked the sound of Shadow's voice, and the way the ninja's chest never failed to grow warm when Orion pressed up against him. Orion liked the way Shadow would naturally raise an arm for him to tuck under, though it took a long time for Shadow to fall into that habit. He liked how it was the first initiated gesture of affection from Shadow, too.
He liked the way Shadow would sigh when Orion would lay his head in Shadow's lap, like he was exasperated, but there was an undeniable fondness in his gaze as he looked down at the prototype and ran a hand through his hair. He liked the way Shadow would greet him with sometimes nothing more than a cup of tea or sake. He liked the way Shadow continued to deliver him hand-written letters by frog, despite neither of them having any need for such an antique form of communication. He liked the way Shadow pretended not to notice how Orion would take his kimono and wash it when he stayed for longer periods of time, so that it'd be returned with the scent that Blues liked to use for his own clothes so much. He liked how Shadow would let him watch as he tended to his weapons, where they could both sit in silence.
He liked the way Shadow indulged him in the silly little things that he always said old married couples did, like taking walks in the park or window shopping. He liked the way Shadow's face never failed to redden when Blues called him 'otou-san', and the way Shadow would protest at first, and then sigh when Blues lifted Tango or the little Kerog to Shadow's face and say 'say hello to your son!' He liked the little games Shadow played to try and catch him off guard and surprise him, like it was a challenge -- one that Blues eagerly rose up to. He liked the quiet moments when they sat outside and looked at the night sky, having had maybe one too many cups of sake, and Shadow would hold him close.
Blues loved the way it was still so easy to fluster Shadow, and how he always hid in the shadows when things got too overwhelming for him, though the time spent hidden away gradually grew shorter. He loved each and every kiss they'd shared, from the shy ones to the desperate ones, and he loved how each kiss initiated by Shadow was a surprise that left him fluttering and delighted every single time. He loved how Shadow maintained patience with him despite their many, many, many past arguments and spats, patience that Blues was very sure that many times he didn't deserve at all. He loved that little flutter of anticipation every time he felt the tug of Shadow's presence, no matter how many times Shadow tried and failed to sneak up on him. He loved how Shadow made him feel safe, how easy it was to fall asleep knowing that he was nearby, and that he wouldn't leave. He loved how Shadow's very presence seemed to make his core lighter, and lessen the tension in his aching chest like some miracle cure. He loved how Shadow's expression would soften when he thought Blues wasn't looking, and how he looked at Blues like he was the missing key to his life. He loved how Shadow made him feel wanted. Loved. Treasured in a way he'd never been treasured before.
...Orion loved everything about Shadow, and it was everything about Shadow that he desperately wanted to have back.))

Sunshine and Midnight Rain
Luke Castellan x Apollo kid!Reader
Tumblr media
word count: 851
summary: Luke castellan and the daughter of apollos love story
a/n: “remember who the enemy is” IM TRYING
Luke Castellan held your heart since the day you met, and you held his.
You arrived at camp a few months after Luke. You were one of the lucky ones, claimed within an hour of being there. Your godly father is Apollo, god of poetry, the sun, music, narcissism, idiocy, stupidity, all that. You had assumed the gods would act superior to all, no matter if they were or weren’t. But Apollo was on a completely different level. You didn’t know why he had taken such a liking to you.
“You remind him of himself,” Your half sister, Kayla, had told you, “an archer who never misses, healer who fixes every wound, gifted singer, and somehow picked up the lyre in a day. And yet, you still ask why Apollo loves you the most?”
“I wish he wouldn’t,” you twirl the golden arrow he gifted you.
“y’know, that hermes boy has been staring since the moment you stepped foot here,” she smiles, nodding to the tan boy sitting on a picnic table.
“Great, more attention,” you keep your sights on the boy, lucas? Luca, maybe?
“His name’s luke castellan,” kayla says, ah luke, that’s it.
“He’s handsome,” you say matter of factly.
“Don’t trust those Hermes boys, all they do is lie,” Kayla leans back and rolls her eyes.
“It’s a good thing I play the lyre.”
——————
“You’ve got a great shot,” a deep voice says from behind you.
You’ve been at the range for around an hour, it’s 4:30, you always practice when no one else is around.
“The whole reason why I come out here this early is so i can be alone,” sure, it sounds mean but you swear you’re not trying to be.
“Sorry, once I see you it’s hard to look away,” you’re not looking at him but you can tell me has the biggest smirk on his face.
“Funny,” you tell him bluntly.
You set down your bow, keeping the arrow in your hand, and sit on the nearby grass. He lays down beside you, you follow his lead and put your hands behind your head.
“That arrow, it’s like it’s made of the sun,” He says amazed.
“A gift from dear old dad. No matter how far I shoot it’ll always come back. Supposed to be a sign of his love or something. But I think he just constantly wants me to be annoyed by him,” you inform him possibly too much.
“Most people would be grateful if their godly parent cares that much,” he says.
“It’s different with Apollo, there is no such thing as true altruism with him,” you bite your inner lip.
“I get that, I’m just tryna say- Hermes never showed up for me, and I'd kill to just have him tell me he cares,” His eyes furrow.
“Guess we both have different priorities,” you smile.
“Opposites work best don’t they?” He smiles back.
“Isn’t it opposites attract?” You wonder.
“Hey, your words, not mine,” he laughs.
“That one’s Orion,” You point up at the constellation.
“He was always my favorite,” he adds.
“Mine has always been Cassiopeia, but you can never see her over here,” You look back up at the sky.
“That one’s Taurus, and then Sirius below, and Gemini above,” you point each of them out.
Even though he hums in acknowledgment his eyes are locked on you.
“You’re staring, again” You mention.
“I told you I can’t help it, especially when you glow like that,” he reaches out and touches your face.
You reach out and grab his hand, running your fingers against his slender digits.
“I’d like to be a constellation when I die, maybe my father will fulfill that wish,” you say to him.
“That’ll be my last wish too, we can lay in the stars together.”
——————
It’s been a day since Percy Jackson came to Camp Half-blood. It just so happens to be your favorite day of the year, capture the flag. You have led the archers on the blue team for years, you’d say you’re doing well for what you’re given. Besides your siblings in Apollo the rest of the kids weren’t as gifted in archery.
As the first conch shell blew you were preparing for your mock-battle. Annabeth in charge of the plan and Percy, Luke with company, and you with the archers. You knew you could, no- would win. The archers took the trees, helping stray company from the skies.
“Today feels like a winning kind of day?” Annabeth asks luke.
“I’ll see you on the other side,” He smiles.
“Luke!” You pull him aside for a moment.
You cup his face the best you can through his armor. “You don’t get hurt okay? I don’t feel like healing anymore wounds from you. Understand?”
“Oh but I love to see you healing” he holds your hand and smirks
“Archers! Move out!” You call your team, eyes still locked with his, smiling.
“so… you and her?” Percy asks the taller boy.
“how could I not? She's perfect. I mean, I genuinely believe I could live without the sun if I just had her.”
And maybe, just maybe, he could.

A Tour of Cosmic Temperatures
We often think of space as “cold,” but its temperature can vary enormously depending on where you visit. If the difference between summer and winter on Earth feels extreme, imagine the range of temperatures between the coldest and hottest places in the universe — it’s trillions of degrees! So let’s take a tour of cosmic temperatures … from the coldest spots to the hottest temperatures yet achieved.
First, a little vocabulary: Astronomers use the Kelvin temperature scale, which is represented by the symbol K. Going up by 1 K is the same as going up 1°C, but the scale begins at 0 K, or -273°C, which is also called absolute zero. This is the temperature where the atoms in stuff stop moving. We’ll measure our temperatures in this tour in kelvins, but also convert them to make them more familiar!
We’ll start on the chilly end of the scale with our CAL (Cold Atom Lab) on the International Space Station, which can chill atoms to within one ten billionth of a degree above 0 K, just a fraction above absolute zero.

Just slightly warmer is the Resolve sensor inside XRISM, pronounced “crism,” short for the X-ray Imaging and Spectroscopy Mission. This is an international collaboration led by JAXA (Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency) with NASA and ESA (European Space Agency). Resolve operates at one twentieth of a degree above 0 K. Why? To measure the heat from individual X-rays striking its 36 pixels!

Resolve and CAL are both colder than the Boomerang Nebula, the coldest known region in the cosmos at just 1 K! This cloud of dust and gas left over from a Sun-like star is about 5,000 light-years from Earth. Scientists are studying why it’s colder than the natural background temperature of deep space.

Let’s talk about some temperatures closer to home. Icy gas giant Neptune is the coldest major planet. It has an average temperature of 72 K at the height in its atmosphere where the pressure is equivalent to sea level on Earth. Explore how that compares to other objects in our solar system!
Tumblr media

How about Earth? According to NOAA, Death Valley set the world’s surface air temperature record on July 10, 1913. This record of 330 K has yet to be broken — but recent heat waves have come close. (If you’re curious about the coldest temperature measured on Earth, that’d be 183.95 K (-128.6°F or -89.2°C) at Vostok Station, Antarctica, on July 21, 1983.)
We monitor Earth's global average temperature to understand how our planet is changing due to human activities. Last year, 2023, was the warmest year on our record, which stretches back to 1880.
Tumblr media
Credit: NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center/Scott Wiessinger
The inside of our planet is even hotter. Earth’s inner core is a solid sphere made of iron and nickel that’s about 759 miles (1,221 kilometers) in radius. It reaches temperatures up to 5,600 K.
Tumblr media
Credit: NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center/Scott Wiessinger
We might assume stars would be much hotter than our planet, but the surface of Rigel is only about twice the temperature of Earth’s core at 11,000 K. Rigel is a young, blue star in the constellation Orion, and one of the brightest stars in our night sky.
Tumblr media

We study temperatures on large and small scales. The electrons in hydrogen, the most abundant element in the universe, can be stripped away from their atoms in a process called ionization at a temperature around 158,000 K. When these electrons join back up with ionized atoms, light is produced. Ionization is what makes some clouds of gas and dust, like the Orion Nebula, glow.
Tumblr media
Credit: NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center/Scott Wiessinger
We already talked about the temperature on a star’s surface, but the material surrounding a star gets much, much hotter! Our Sun’s surface is about 5,800 K (10,000°F or 5,500°C), but the outermost layer of the solar atmosphere, called the corona, can reach millions of kelvins.
Our Parker Solar Probe became the first spacecraft to fly through the corona in 2021, helping us answer questions like why it is so much hotter than the Sun's surface. This is one of the mysteries of the Sun that solar scientists have been trying to figure out for years.
Tumblr media

Looking for a hotter spot? Located about 240 million light-years away, the Perseus galaxy cluster contains thousands of galaxies. It’s surrounded by a vast cloud of gas heated up to tens of millions of kelvins that glows in X-ray light. Our telescopes found a giant wave rolling through this cluster’s hot gas, likely due to a smaller cluster grazing it billions of years ago.
Tumblr media

Now things are really starting to heat up! When massive stars — ones with eight times the mass of our Sun or more — run out of fuel, they put on a show. On their way to becoming black holes or neutron stars, these stars will shed their outer layers in a supernova explosion. These layers can reach temperatures of 300 million K!
Tumblr media
Credit: NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center/Jeremy Schnittman
We couldn’t explore cosmic temperatures without talking about black holes. When stuff gets too close to a black hole, it can become part of a hot, orbiting debris disk with a conical corona swirling above it. As the material churns, it heats up and emits light, making it glow. This hot environment, which can reach temperatures of a billion kelvins, helps us find and study black holes even though they don’t emit light themselves.
JAXA’s XRISM telescope, which we mentioned at the start of our tour, uses its supercool Resolve detector to explore the scorching conditions around these intriguing, extreme objects.
Tumblr media
Credit: NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center/CI Lab
Our universe’s origins are even hotter. Just one second after the big bang, our tiny, baby universe consisted of an extremely hot — around 10 billion K — “soup” of light and particles. It had to cool for a few minutes before the first elements could form. The oldest light we can see, the cosmic microwave background, is from about 380,000 years after the big bang, and shows us the heat left over from these earlier moments.
Tumblr media
Credit: NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center/Scott Wiessinger
We’ve ventured far in distance and time … but the final spot on our temperature adventure is back on Earth! Scientists use the Large Hadron Collider at CERN to smash teensy particles together at superspeeds to simulate the conditions of the early universe. In 2012, they generated a plasma that was over 5 trillion K, setting a world record for the highest human-made temperature.
