on red and blue symbolism in heathers: an essay

i read one of those buzzfeed listicles the other day that was like “crazy fun facts and secrets about your favorite 80s movies!” and one of the first fun facts was “did you know that in heathers, every character is associated with a color?” that’s not a fun fact. it’s not even a secret. heathers is a lot of things but one thing it’s not is subtle. heathers practically beats the viewer over the head with color symbolism but in this essay, i would particularly like to draw attention to the colors red and blue and their significance in heathers’ narrative.

a short preface: when possible, i cite stills sourced from the movie itself. some images, however, are served better by the gif format, so whenever i post a gif i will also cite the tumblr user who made it. if your gifs are used in this post and you would like me to remove them, please let me know.

okay, with that out of the way, let's start at the beginning (naturally). below is the title card. right away, the cinematographers inundate the viewer with red, informing the viewer that red (and whoever wears it) will be significant to the narrative.

red represents the social order and the natural hierarchy of predators and prey at westerburg. red is omnipresent throughout the production design of the school's campus.

by assuming the color of the school itself, heather chandler assumes control of the school. and when she drags veronica along to the remington party to help boost their reputation, the whole dorm is bathed in red light.

when we first meet veronica, she's wearing gray and black, with only occasional pops of blue (the brooch in the outfit above, her croquet mallet, etc) but as veronica's discomfort and unease begins to grow, something interesting begins to happen!

blue light slowly begins to creep into the frame, and once veronica has finally had enough of brad's bullshit, it becomes even more prominent. just as red represents control of the social hierarchy, blue symbolizes discontent and rejection of the social order.

meanwhile, heather chandler isn't having a great time at the party either. this scene is the only time in the film we see heather chandler completely alone, in a moment of vulnerability and self loathing, and she's surrounded by the color blue.

and then all hell breaks loose. i honestly dont think one image or gif alone can do this scene justice so im linking to tibby's (beautifully colored) gifset of the scene.

note how as veronica declares war ("lick it up, baby!"), red and blue lights flicker across her face. and as heather promises to ruin veronica in turn, the red light casts heather's face in shadow and overpowers the blue.

of course, heather never gets the chance to make good on this promise because veronica and jd kill her. and that may have been a mistake, but the color of their poison is quite deliberate.

and right before she dies, she takes off her red scrunchie - conceding her control.

of course, heather's death doesn't mean her exit from the narrative. red lingers throughout the rest of the film. but guess what color veronica wears to the funeral?

tumblr is a little bitch and i dont have the time or energy to expound upon the rest of my argument at the moment. it's probably been examined and analyzed in greater detail by people smarter and far more eloquent than me. but i'll conclude with veronica's reclamation of the red scrunchie at the end of the film. you could choose to interpret this as veronica conceding to the hierarchy even after all she's been through, but i choose to interpret it as a bitter compromise.

Why do you even ship tomarry? Like it honestly seems from most of your posts that you don’t have a very favorable view of Harry or Tom’s feelings/treatment of him, so what do you even like about it? Genuinely confused why you aren’t maining bellamort when nearly every post I’ve seen from you has put Harry down in some way and found a way to bring Bella or one of the other Blacks up.

ok, this is a very good question and i understand where you are coming from. i really do. this is what it seems like if you take a quick glance of my blog and you're right, i have thought about this myself too.

but the truth of the matter is, i like bellamort, but i dont love that ship, whereas i love tomarrymort if it is done right.

tomarrymort is a very difficult ship to bring together in a Realistic way, Because of all the problems i have pointed out. bellatrix happens to be one of my favourite characters and i hate the way she is treated as an unfavorable side character who has to compete with harry for voldemort's affections but loses because harry is v's pwecious liddol horcrux.

to me, that just ruins my whole mood for reading the fic because i believe that bella doesn't have to compete at all, not when she is objectively already so much better than harry in Voldemort's eyes. He favours those who are cruel, cunning and devoted to the cause. None of which harry is or possesses.

a truly good harrymort fic would have overcome this issue, not just make voldemort like how much harry hates him and learn to live with it, because who tf would like that??? Oh hey! Look at me! My partner hates me because i murdered his family and am advocating for the destruction of all the people like him! Isn't he fucking beautiful with his murderous eyes! Haha!

like.. not it.

and harry can't just suddenly turn all pureblood supremist and be like, omg, i should be v's favourite because i overcame my views from the past and.. and Bellatrix sucks because she killed sirius!!!!!

and voldemort would not like to be antagonised everytime he's trying to live. i hate to break it to you, but harry can't stop him from murdering people, but bellatrix would stand next to him, also torturing people, so obviously, bellamort is the easier ship.

but that doesn't necessarily mean i like it more.

i am a huge fan of enemies to lovers and if done right, can be peak.

and i am not a fan of the trope where voldemort urges harry to hurt him because voldenort killed his parents and welcomes harry's rage. it's so fucking stupid, like, please slap me because i killed your parents and facilitated in the murder of your godfather who was wrongly imprisoned for 13 years because of me, and you are sooo mad at me for it. just, no.

he is not the type of person to beg. at all. voldemort is a taker, he takes advantage and he exploits. he does this to bella, too. why did she end up in jail? because she was serving him! does it seem like he apologised to bella for it? No! So why should harry be any different?? Especially harry, because it was due to harry that he lost the war in the first place!

so, voldemort himself would harbour a LOT of resentment towards harry, not just the other way around, and im telling you, it won’t be easy to get over this hatred, and i think that should be explored more. Not just voldemort Suddenly being interested in harry because harry is the only one brave enough to outwardly hate him (which is literally such a stupid, shallow reason for voldemort to take any notice of him at all.)

It looks like neither harry nor v is willing to compromise and this is the challenge they have to overcome in order to get together.

voldemort is a character who does not bend to anyone's wills and having him bend to harry's will is a discredit to his character. at its core, tomarrymort will always be a toxic ship because of their fundamental different world views and i like it when it is kept that way, and with Voldemort being horribly overbearing. harry cannot keep him in check, he's just a kid compared to Voldemort's age.

tom is also someone who believes anything can be solved with murder and if harry refuses him, and he doesn't like harry vey much, it will end in bloodshed and that is what i like about this horrifying pairing in the first place. the fact that v would not hesitate to kill unless it is one of his closest followers. This is a challenge that has to be overcome too.

im also sick and tired of harry always being given the preferential treatment in fics just because he's witty and sassy or whatever, like this isn't canon. he's just some guy, not tom riddle who was a prodigy since eleven, not bellatrix who even harry described as being powerful.

and don't you think it's stale that the fact that harry is a horcrux is always always some kind of basis to them getting together??? it's just sooo... overused and the fic community is saturated with the same tropes over and over again.

and tom and harry are not murder husbands. Just.. no. It's either butchering tom's character or harry's character. And im telling you frankly, if you want murder husbands, that is literally voldemort x genderbent bellatrix.

And i know that harry is most peoples favourite character, so voldemort is not given enough justice in their writing. His character is always butchered when harry outsmarts him or something and im sick and tired of it. Like, yeah voldemort is not a good person, but if you hate him so much, why are you shipping harrymort? Literally leave.

Overall, it is not the ship i hate, i just really hate some of the overused tropes and think they can be done better. me putting it this way can seem like i don’t like harry, which is not true. it’s just that i hate this fandom’s glorification of him and how they think that voldemort always owes him something for being a terrible person, which i think is really ooc.

my inclusion of bella and the blacks into their dynamics has thus nothing to do with my dislike for harry, but more so on the fact that the complete disregard this fandom has for bellatrix angers me.

What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending? omg. umm. merthur fans don't know this yet bc i havent finished posting but it's arthur pendragon long may she reign (BUT it's part of a series, so it's literally fine). idk, i dont tend to write long fics that end angsty. but my angstiest fic in general is probably Hollow-Boned Boy (armand contemplating his human life in the early CoD era) or Vision of the Damned (daniel's turning from armand's pov)

What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending? i love a happy ending!! my series Odysseus in White Silk is probably the happiest ending, and in such an undeserved way hahaha it's so very AU because i was sad after s1 of the show and just wanted them all (and armandaniel) to live happily ever after

8. Do you get hate on fics? i dont think i ever have, but i tend to read comments in good faith too, so maybe someone out there is annoyed that i interpreted their vague dislike comment as a genuine comment or something, idk. in general though, i'll say no

9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind? yes but i dont post that often, idk if there's a particular kind, but generally it tends to be a little rougher than is probably appropriate without discussion in real-life situations, but also very...idk my friend described it as very tender, like theyre very clearly in love. which is so funny considering that that kind of tenderness irl gives me fucking hives lmfao

10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written? oh wow, not in a long time. i do have a wip sitting around rn that's a crossover between london spy and cloud atlas, which is really crazy until you remember that ben whishaw is in both london spy and the cloud atlas movie lol. and cloud atlas is already about weird reincarnations and parallel worlds and stuff, so it isnt too out-there.

12. Have you ever had a fic translated? yes!! The Face of God was translated into Korean by ao3 user Crescent919 !! i've had a few comments on other fics asking to translate for personal use (always yes, of course), but no one else has asked to share a translation publicly

13. Have you ever co-written a fic before? no!! i've been thinking about it lately though

14. What’s your all time favorite ship? all-time? probably merlin/arthur from merlin (bbc). it's the whole fate-destiny-choice thing, it just compels me like nothing else

What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will? hmmm, i would like to finish Roswell -- well, kinda (agent carter farm girl / alien crash landing au) because i still have all the original notes and outlines and stuff. i also made a shitty conlang when i was first writing it, which is crazy lol. but it would need some pretty serious revisions, and i would definitely rewrite the first few chapters that i posted years ago. i just kind of lost the agent carter bug, but i might return to that fic if i ever get in the mood for it again.

What are your writing strengths? ooh, i'm not really sure! i get a lot of comments mentioning characters' voices and/or personalities, so i would say maybe that!!! i also feel that i'm fairly good at mimicking an author's writing style when i want to (notably, i do not mimic anne rice when writing vc fic, lol)

17. What are your writing weaknesses? editing for sure. i have at least a hundred fics sitting on my hard drive fully or almost-fully written that i just need to edit. but i would simply rather die than do all of that. it's also why my whole merlin fic got put on pause while i went down the vc rabbithole, because i just can't bring myself to go edit the next chapters lol

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic? hmm, i think it's usually unnecessary and comes off as a bit silly. that said, i did do it once (maybe excessively) in Daniel Molloy, Time Bandit (1984 daniel ends up in 1794 theatre des vampires, it's more of a character study than a time travel fic) BUT, let me defend myself -- i did it because daniel doesnt understand french, it's his pov, and he's incredibly confused and distraught for most of the fic. i felt like the dialogue being in french conveyed this sort of "daniel does not belong in this time/place" vibes. but, also, my french is...a little rough. so i'm sure it's an annoying fic for french readers lmao

Favourite fic you’ve written? ok, i have three different answers for this. the fic i think is the best, objectively, in terms of writing and content: The Story of Dani [...] (r63 devil's minion from armand's pov, starting with lestat's house). the fic i am the proudest of, mostly because it was my first "big" fic (it's funny now, bc it's only 41k) and i feel like i grew a lot as a writer while working on it, and i'm still happy with it: The Face of God (les mis pov javert, character study from childhood). the fic i have the most fun with and think about almost 24/7: Arthur Pendragon, Long May She Reign (r63 merthur, canon divergence, this is like a 4-part series that's currently over 300k lmao)

How Much Chaos Can One Roomba Cause?

Ah yes a beautiful day in Springdale,

And on days like these…

A certain space nerd is kicking down the door of an not-so averagely 

average kid…

this is gonna end poorly isn't it?

“Inaho what the hell??!”

there stood from his chair the most certainly startled average kid in question. Nate Amano, Springdales very own Yo-Kai extraordinaire, (but if you're reading this fic then you already know that.) Trailing his eyes from his nerdy friend's face which is plastered with a mischievous grin, down to what she holds in her hands…

A roomba, But not just any roomba, a Yo-Kai Roomba!

Well more specifically called the Yo-Kai Vacuum Cleaner tho they prefer to call it the Yo-Kai Roomba but Inaho nicknamed it Roomby so that whats it will be called within this fic because Inaho is always right (this is lie do not trust her)

“And why does the roomba have a knife taped to it..?” Nate questioned, staring at the high quality knife taped to the little roomba with a piece of gray duck tape, not sure if he should be scared or not since its within her hands,

“Why not?”

“honestly there are so many reasons why not but i dont have the time nor energy right now to say them all out for you.”

He said with a classic ‘I'm so done with your shit’ to his voice as he sat back down at his desk,

“And please just take the knife off and put the roomba back on its charging port or even take it out to go collect stuff, and not set it on the floor with the knife still attached, please.” he warned her as he returned to the boring homework he was working on before the sudden intrusion. 

Inaho, looking down at Roomby, contemplating on the chaos she could unleash.. People dead, houses burned, hearts stolen, war crimes committed, by this adorable little cleaning robot with a knife.. if she just.. Sat it dow- and she did it.(god dammit inaho)

With roomby now on the floor it makes a little beep. Nate turning back to look at the robot at the sound, fear striking his face, eyes widening at the sight.

A roomba.

With a knife taped to it.

On the floor. 

Fully let loose.

And in his room.

BECAUSE A CERTAIN SOMEBODY HAS NO REGARD FOR HER OWN AND OTHERS SAFETY.  

(*ahem* excuse that outbreak, inaho is my skrunkly blorbo bleebus but she's really a lot sometimes, anyhoot let's continue) 

Nate yelps out in fear, curling up into a ball in his chair, he looks back over to inaho. “Why.. why would you do this?” he asks inaho with a shaky wobbliness to his voice, but no response.. Just a mischievous and evil grin on her face as she begins to cackle like a crazy witch in her tower when confronting the hero who came to save the princess she kidnapped.. And then.. Suddenly.. While neither of them were looking.. Roomby stabs the knife into the wall, actually is it right to call it stabbing in this case?

Well anyhoots both of the watchers turn their gaze to roomby with Nate beginning to spiral into panic.. Probably because his mom will kill him if she finds out what happened to the wall.. 

Inaho awws at the sight as she crouches down with quite a pleased smile plastered on her face “Aww roombys first bit of destruction!’ “HOW CAN YOU ACT LIKE THIS WHEN IT DID THIS TO MY WALL?!?” he scolded inaho, making a pout strike is face afterwards “Nate chill chilllllllll” inaho exclaimed as the roomba turned to face the blades towards inaho's definitely exposed ankle

“It's just a small hole in the wal-” she explained being cut off at the end with eyes widening as she looked down to see that the roomba had moved towards her. Slicing into her ankle as a result, bright red crimson blood falling from the cut onto the floor and the blade of the knife.. Her eye twitches as she attempts to keep her cool, staring at how her own blood contrasts on the shiny sliver of the knife's blade (which is very sharp btw, inaho got herself a knife sharpening kit just to make sure she got it to peak sharpness). She breathes through her teeth due to the pain as roomby slowly backs up,

“Oh no, I've been impaled.. well not really i just got a little cut but STILL.”

“A-are you okay?” Nate stuttered while asking, tilting his head being genuinely concerned for Inaho's well being. while she may be an asshole to him sometimes he does have a genuine concern for her health considering how many bad situations she gets herself into,

“Oh nooo I'm fineeee, really.” she assured nate

“Are you sure about that?”

" ALRIGHT FINE! I'M NOT OKAYYYYY!" She wails in the pain and suffering, repeating 'ow', 'owie', and other forms of expressing one's pain and discomfort to herself as she sits herself on the floor to begin rocking back and forth. “I'll grab some bandages so in the meantime wait here and cover the wound with your hand, that might help stop the bleeding for now.” nate exclaimed, making a small calm down hand gesture to go along with it, (how else to i quacking describe thiissss -octo) inaho responding with a simple nod in agreement as she then quickly does as nate instructed and covers the wound with the palm of her hand as nate dashes out of his room to swiftly grab the medical supplies from the bathroom, passing by whisper in the hallway as he leaves.

"What in the world has got nate this panicked to be rushing out of his roo-

GOOD GOD?!"

[Insert here the wailings in pain of The Big Dumb Idiot™ Inaho Misora]

"Well that explains the noise at least..'' Whisper mumbled to himself as inaho turns her head to look at Whisper only able to give out a small wobbly, crying, "hi whisper" in response.

"Inaho, What in the name of Lord Enma Happened here?" He asked floating closer towards inaho with crossed arms and a confused but also worried look on his face, inaho after taking a moment to properly collect herself brings out a response,

"Ya want the long or the short?"

"The short please."

"So roomba,"

Whisper nods his head,

"With knife taped on,"

He nods his head again,

"Put on the floor by me,"

Once again he nods his head,

"I got the bitch called karma,"

Another nod followed by an "im listening" in response,

"And i'm now here, as you can see, in a lot of pain"

Whisper only able to just let out a sigh in response pinches where his nose bridge would, floating the other way. 

"Now please excuse me while I return to my regularly scheduled wailing" she declared as she resumed her wailing.

"Inaho..," he takes a pause to look at her "Why did you think taping a Knife to the Yo-Kai Vacuum Cleaner was a good idea?" 

"Alright so 1 its name is roomby, and 2 i am an individual with a significant line of violence, be it cannon or fannon, so me taping a knife to a roomba was bound to happen eventually, and that just happened to be today." She answered, a strong sense of Determination coming from her as she then immediately returned to wailing in pain like a baby,

"And now why did you name it, 'Roomby'?"

"BECAUSE ROOMBY IS MY BELOVED MINION OF CHAOS AND DESTRUCTION THAT'S WHY!!"

As she responded Nate returned, med kit, and damp wash rag in hand. 

"Inaho please keep your voice down."

"Welllll excuse me princess for having to let out a little bit of anger for a second"

Nate would simply sigh at the response as he crouches down to deal with the wound, moving her hand to see how much blood has gotten on it, inaho promptly taking back her hand from Nate and.. licking off the blood from her hand, uh yeah nate and whisper both give her this baffled look as she simply responds with

"Whaaat? i like the taste of it, and besiiiddees, it's my own blood."

Nate simply chooses to not respond to her weirdness as he doesn't really have the energy to deal with it. 

Swiftly he begins dealing with the wound this big idiot got herself with, cleaning up the blood while applying slight pressure, applying some antibiotic cream that absolutely STUNG and is cold as fuck and she hates it she hates it ohhhh she so fucking hates it, folding a bit of the medical tape on itself to cover the wound then wrapping more it around her ankle to keep it in place due to the size not fitting any of the bandages.

(disclaimer i feel i should add, that this is most likely not entirely accurate on how to deal with a wound like this, this is just what i gathered from some quick research, please seek professional help or do your own proper research if you or someone else gets a wound in a similar fashion -octo)

With that all dealt with he puts everything back into the med kit to take back down, but before that he gives inaho a small bonk on the head. 

"There ya go you big blundering idiot"

"OI- i aint no blundering idiot!"

"Yes you are."

"No I'm not."

"Yes you are"

"No I'm not." 

And this continues on and on and on and on, Whisper letting out a small sigh as he then realizes something, glancing around the room to kinda confirm it with himself, and his suspicions are indeed correct.

"Snap out of it you two! The Vacuum Cleaner, it's not here!" He announced as this promptly snapped the two out of the loop as they both frantically start looking around and indeed, Roomby is nowhere to be found,

Nate beginning to spiral into a panic due to this, and inaho being inaho is very happy sparkly eyed about this

"Awww my little minion has gone to go cause mass chaos and destruction!"(:D)

"INAHO, THIS IS A PROBLEM!"

"I see no problem with this, So i really don't know what you're waffling about bruh."

"Why are you like this..?"

"Do I really gotta explain this to you?" She gave as the answer to nate's question, this simply leaving nate more furious than before but all he could let out is a sigh in frustration as he closed the med kit up and take it back downstairs alongside the now bloody wash rag, before he leaves he looks back at inaho who just stood back up, 

"If you think you can walk fine then you're gonna help me find it, if not then go home and hopefully not cause any more chaos than you've already done" he explained with his resting bitch face on, truly just done with her shit at this point, inaho simply rolling her eyes in response which only adds more fuel to his fire

"I was gonna go home either way so uh yeah." She said with a smug look on her face. Nate just giving her the bombastic side eye at this response.

"Your rarely ever any help, you know that?"

"Damn right!"

After returning the med kit and wash rag, Nate and inaho leave his house and go their separate ways, inaho simply going around the corner to pocket mirapo close to home. Nate, in a worse emotional state right now, even after whisper thought it would be a better idea, got Whisper to stay home, simply because Nate doesn't want to deal with any more annoyances. It's sunny outside, and unsurprisingly jibanyan is sunbathing on top of the car, nate walks towards him to give the cat head scratches, he does enjoy that, “oh hi nyate” jibanyan says tiredly, yawning afterwards. “Hiya jibbers, having a nice sunbath?” he asked, giving more head scratches.

“Nyeah, purrfectly warm and sunny out, just how i like it nya” “That's good, did you by any chance see a roomba with a knife pass by at all? Inaho taped a knife to the roomba and now it's gotten loose somehow”“Hmm nyo sorry, i've been having a cat nyap this entire time so i cyant really help mew there nya'' jibanyan answered, the slightest tinge of disappointment falling onto nates face, 

"Well thank you anyways, enjoy your sunbath now" he gave jibanyan more head pats before running off, jibanyan waving goodbye behind him.

Now i'm not gonna go too into detail of course, for my own and you the readers sake but just goes all over springdale asking any and all yokai he bumps into if they've seen the roomba and seeing any destruction it leaves in its wake, this leads him onto a wild goose chase all around springdale, taking him basically all day until he ends up at the Mt Wildwood summit at midnight, the moonlight dimly lighting up the area as he tiredly drags his fatigued body up the stairs, not the first time he's lost a lot of sleep looking for something at least. Now he saw it come up here, he's sure he did! Only a little bit of looking around tho to prove him wrong, the roomba was nowhere to be seen around here, only him and the mirapo, but wait a minute! He thought to himself for a moment connecting the dots, if the roombas not here and there's a mirapo then… He immediately rushes to the mirapo at his sudden realization. “Good evening blegh, were you headin?”

“Uh actually did a roomba with a knife go through your portal at all recently?” The mirapo thought for a moment, Nate anxiously waiting for an answer. “Yeah one did, it went over to America, why you askin blegh?”

Nate takes a quick sigh of relief, ‘Can you teleport me to where it went please?”

“Yeah sure, not problem” Nate thanks the mirapo before it opens up its portal and Nate walks through.

The bright american sun greets him on his way out, covering his eyes from its bright light as they adjust to the sudden change in brightness, East Pine at the old town teleport by the watch shop, well it couldn't have gone too far he thought to himself for a moment the quick idea of giving a visit to buck quickly crossed his mind but he quickly shuts that own down, gotta stay on the mission and get that roomba, no time for silly distractions! Although maybe he could take a quick moment to say hi, i mean it'll just be a quick hello and explanation of the situation, hell knowing buck he'll probably end up wanting to help him out in the end and they do say two heads are better than one! 

So off nate goes against his better judgment to go see his Good Friend, totally just his Good Friend and totally not his big crush, nope no boy lovers here just an average boy and his best adventurous boyfriend that he does not have romantic feelings for in any way shape or form. He's totally not thinking of how looking for a roomba with a knife could turn into a romantic date nope totally not!

And so our beloved yet average protagonist heads on his way, passing by the supermarket where he and buck had fled from the supermanager that fateful night after they went on that useless fetch quest for that stupid ass chicken, Nate still hates that cluckers face

But more importantly he remembers that feeling he felt when they had jumped to escape.. yeahhhh no it was totally just their totally platonic bond growing, yeah totally.

Passing by the church and trying to not think too hard about how turning yo kai into souls is almost a form of.. sealing them for lack of a nicer word,

Waving to the landlord of the local St. Peanutsburg Wayfaring Manor, and of course going through Broccoli Blocks to that memorable red bridge, well at least him. (yes that is actually what the little pathway to the secret base is called in game)

The familiar spring leaves grace his presence as nate approaches the Secret Base of the BBQ trio, 

ever since inaho started showing up more they basically officially became a trio that one fateful night nate and buck brought a mini grill over to the base for a BBQ, obviously it was inaho and her silly brain that came up with the name that buck seconded, so unfortunately for nate it was a majority vote to his displeasure but he eventually grew to like the name, also ended up being what the Yo-Kai world recognized them as, 

Aside from there being a grill not much has changed about the secret bases exterior, aside from a new coat of paint and a proper team flag and symbol that the trio worked together to make, it was basically the same.

Climbing up the ladder and onto the deck, nate can only hope Buck is here and not out on an adventure without him, opening the door, well there's the golden sunshine boy himself sleeping on the nice couch they got,

The inside of the Base was definitely the most changed part, new proper furniture, a bean bag, string lights, and a hammock that inaho claimed to be hers only, and some proper storage space, oh and a small disco ball that Inaho and Buck had literally begged and puppy eyed for Nate to keep, it being here means they're plan worked unfortunately.

But anyyyhooots, Nate walked up to the snoozing red haired boy, his face almost glowing in the warm sunlight that planted on his face, nate couldn't help but clench his fist to his heart at how peaceful and cute buck was, wait- cute? Nonononono no he totally doesn't think bucks cute, just peaceful, yeah peaceful.

Well ignoring those thoughts Nate pokes Bucks cheek, continuing to do those in an attempt to wake him up.. unfortunately he sleeps like a log so plan B,

Nate sits himself on top of the couch and readys himself… 

*Thud*

Well unfortunately it had to be a rude awakening via kicking him off the couch and onto the floor,

As Nate slides himself down onto the seating of the couch, crossing his leg and looking down onto Buck. 

"OWWW- couldn't ya have woken me up, y'know softer?"

Nate rolls his eyes as Buck raises an eyebrow,

 "Well i trieedd to wake you up via pokes but no! you have to sleep like a log and force me to have to use the hard way,"

Buck grumbles, standing up to dust himself off,

"What are ye even here for tho, Sumin bad happen?" The red head questioned turning to meet nate's gaze, the brunette crossing over his other leg and leaning back before replying,

"Yes actually, tho i kinda just wanted to say hi,

But to summarize inaho, roomba, knife, got loose, ended up in America."

Buck tilts his head in confusion like a little puppy (he kinda just wants to hear Nate talk more tho), Nate sighs,

"Inaho taped a knife to the roomba and it ended up getting loose while i was tending to the wound she got from it, so i search everywhere around springdale for it but ended up in here to look for it" 

"SHE DID WHAT?!?"

He yelled, name quickly replying 

"I KNOW RIGHT?! I swear the stupidity of this bitch sometimes, can't she just let the chaos and destruction rest in her brain for at least a week?"

"Honestly i think that's impossible fer her"

"Yeah you're probably right there."

"Wait- Nate?"

"Yeah what's up?"

"You're losing sleep over this aren't you" he questioned to the brunette, nate averting his gaze away from buck because well he hit the nail on the coffin, it is like 1am in springdale right now,

"Well I've gone for longer without sleep so i'll be fineee"

"Like the time ye passed out from a whole week of no sleep?"

Yeah Buck was right, that is the longest Nate has gone without sleep for.. 7 seven days no sleep and high on caffeine as he became a coffee addict to stave of the sleep depression from all the nights of sleep before and after his adventures in America he lost to dealing with yo kai business

"Well uh," he gracefully changes the topic, meeting eyes with Buck again, "anyways Buck, do you wanna help me look for this stupid roomba?"

"M'thinkin you already know the answer to that?"

"Yeah I do, cmon lets get going." He says as the duo head out back to east pine to begin the search but it doesn't take them long because…

"THE SUPERMARKETS ON FIRE?!?" Nate yells out in shock, both of them are shocked of course, in a hurry they rush over to the parking lot and who do they see standing next to the St. Peanutsburg bunny.. the devils little helper herself Inaho, hands behind her back like some kinda villain.. maybe she is in another universe but not here. 

She turns her head to look at the two with an evil smirk on her face, 

"Hellloo there you twoo~"

"Get that stupid smirk off your face" Nate retorts as he and Buck walk over towards Inaho,

"Fuhuhu~" she turns to look back at the fire,  "Fire is so beautiful isn't it?" She completely ignored him- 

"I do agree it is pretty, BUT NOT WHEN ITS BURNING THE FUCKING SUPERMARKET!" he exclaims as he gestures to the burning supermarket to put emphasis on it, 

"I still think it's pretty."

"Weirdo- well what's more important is why would you commit arson on the supermarket???"

Inaho tilts her head in confusion,

"Why ya gotta blame me for every bad thing that happens, but it was roomby who did this and don't ask me how because i aint got no focking clue man" 

"Well then where's the roomba??"

And in a response Inaho points down to where low and behold the roomba is, no scratches or burn marks or any damage really, scrape free. 

Seeing it, Nate quickly scoops it up, pulling off the taped knife with force and then throwing said knife down into the ground by Inaho's feet, just barely missing her. 

After that jumpscare inaho picks the knife up from the ground and swiftly gives nate the middle finger with her free hand,

"OI FOCK YOU YE FOCKING BITCH!"

He swiftly gives her a middle finger back with his own free hand,

"Fuck you too bitch!"

"WELL- FOCK YOU MORE!"

"I swear is that really the best- Well how about you go fuck yourself!?"

"WELL I ALREADY DO ENOUGH OF THAT SO NO THANKS!" She yelled, as then Nate and Buck look at her with this wtf look of confusion before letting out a "Huh?", inaho then tilting her head with her own "huh?" As if she didn't hear what she just said

But before anyone can say anything there is yelling in the distance..

"INAHO MISORAAAA!!!!!"

mad yelling- from a very mad otter, it's USApyon of course, inaho stepping back from the other two from hearing him,

"Well it seems this is where i bid thee adieu" she proclaims before bows like some actor after a show after which she runs off making USApyon have to take chase, "GET'CHER ASS BACK HERE MISSY!" 

Well good to know those two still have that dynamic going for them, until inaho narrowly avoids getting hit by the upcoming fire truck, this causing everyone to take a moment of shock and for USApyon to stop in his tracks, and it's not until she gives them the thumbs up of okay for them to all sigh in relief and for USApyon to continue chase as inaho runs off towards the church area, 

Well at least the fire is going to be taken care of now.

"I should go take this roomba home now, see ya buck!" 

"See ya! N'please do go get some sleep when ya get on home and not just sip on coffee." 

"Don't worry i will i will" he says as the two depart, Nate using pocket mirapo to teleport straight to his room.

After turning on the light and setting the roomba on its charging port he stretches before sitting down at his desk grabbing the cup of cold coffee that had been left there this entire time,

"Now then" he looks down at the paper on his table with tired bloodshot eyes, "to finish this homework.." he mumbles to himself before taking a sip of his coffee- but no he stops himself, buck did tell him to get some sleep.. Well, getting this homework done can wait, besides tomorrow, well technically today is a Saturday so he can just do it after breakfast, so instead before he gets ready for bed he'll just write in his diary, (or his journal as he calls it to inaho and buck), for today.

|Today was a rather, eventful day for lack of a better word. Inaho barged into my room with a knife taped to the roomba, thankfully she got her karma from the roomba no less but it had ended up escaping, somehow, taking me on a wild goose chase all around Springdale until i ended up going to St. Peanutsburg and taking a small detour to go see buck and his cute face, he ended up helping me search but we didn't have to look far as it had set the supermarket on fire, i was thankfully able to scoop it up and take off the knife so aside from Inaho almost committing a Jibanyan and getting hit by a truck, a fire truck no less, id say this was a successful mission complete|

Are you making a post about your favorite ship? Excellent! Tag it correctly. Do not tag a bunch of irrelevant tags as that's considered spamming. Your tags should look like:

By the way, this isn't twitter. Tags can have spaces in them. You can write a whole ass paragraph almost. It's enouraged to do so!

Also, this isn't TikTok. "Unalive" and other censored words for the "algorithm" are dumb and pointless. There is no algorithm. Use the right words so that people can filter what they don't want to see.

Are you writing a negative post about a ship you don't like? Well that's a waste of time but you do you, just tag it correctly. Your tag should like like:

#anti-ship #dont mention the ship in any other way! It could pop up in their tags when those shippers are trying to do their own thing

Don't cross post KNOWING your post can upset someone. Don't play coy. Don't play dumb. Don't start drama on purpose. If you're bored and want some action, why not get a real hobby instead of fighting on the internet?

If you don't like someone, you can select the three dots on top of their posts and block them. You can save yourself a headache if you learn to curate your experience~

What fandoms do you write for? Mostly DC rn, tho I have a few fics for COD

What are your top five fics by kudos? on this account all of those are bakudeku because I've been very deep in the fandom until last year lmao so I'm going to cheat a little :3 and list the ones from DC fandom to self-promote myself a little 😂

1. taking a break (alone, please) at 345! I'm really happy with that and quite surprised because it's the very first proper sladick fic I wrote! Dick gets hurt during a mission so Slade takes him somewhere to take care of the wound and maybe have a little fun while he's at that. The only problem is that Dick's comm gets turned on at some point.

2. unexpectedly beneficial at 289. This is surprise since it's a New Year fic and those, in my experience, never get that much kudso lmao It's also my second fic! Dick's stuck at Brucie's New Year Eve's party. Slade comes over to keep him company

3. bunny-shaped trouble at 230 kudos, the idea came from Claudia who sent me a prompt 💕 Dick gets turned into a bunny and takes the opportunity to annoy the hell out of Slade

4. persistence at 219! This was my entry for sladerobin week and for some reason I was very anxious so I'm glad its so high in the ranks Dick goes on an undercover mission, where he has to seduce the target. Slade isn't very happy about that.

5. conflict resolution at 217 kudos! It's the first part of the series and well, let's be honest, compared to the rest (that is posted here on tumblr now, im working on it to post it properly on ao3) it isn't very exciting but I still love it and I'm happy it's so high as well! King Slade Wilson offers the way to stop the war between Gotham and Defiance. He will stop the attacks if prince Richard becomes his royal consort.

Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic? I like it a lot actually but not if there's too much of it - just a few sentences are enough or just a few words thrown here and there, and there needs to be translation somewhere in the fic, in the notes or something because people should know what the characters are saying but yeah, I like how it directly shows that someone is speaking in another language instead of writing "he cursed in russian" or other stuff like that

i mentioned i was reworking the original post on my ao3 and so here it is! please note that a) there are a LOT of spoilers under the cut  (guy who has 80+ hours and multiple multiple endings) and b) there’s a lot of ways to take sol and these are just me having fun with them, if u dont like thats fine but dont tell me i don’t care. lol. also worth noting i think time loops are most fun when they subtly influence each other so there’s a lot of that in here LOL

worth noting i think theres a few traits that are pretty universal to them? wants to do right and full of love are the big two, tho curiosity, (seeming) warmth, and ability to fit in w/those around them are also pretty important tho i think more flexible. its just fun the way various sols can have those traits like.... manifest? an alien-hater sol who goes hunting all the time is just as valid as a sol dating dys that wants to end the war. just different ppl they love and different experiences. its fun

with that. onto the Meat

1) solana (she/her (demi?)girl, loyalty leaning lawyer, neutral end)

baby’s first run! outwardly warm but pretty cold inside. hypercompetent everywhere except in her love life. fell for tang when they were like nine on the ship and just sort of, never stopped, feeling that way, including when she was 100 years old and had outlived tang by nearly forty years, partially bc fixating on tang as people were dying was kind of. the only solace she had. wouldve really benefited from a good therapist.

2) solanaceae (he/him tguy, governor, peace ending)

childhood optimist with a hero complex turned "realist” but actually-exactly-the-same-just-depressed-about-it adult. saves tammy and tonin and hal! cannot save his parents :) grows a little distant from most of the people around him as a result, except dys, who Gets it. avoids tang for pretty much no reason he can understand, just has a sense of She Will Hurt You If You Get Too Close when he sees her sometimes. becomes governor solely bc he wants to save people. the kind of person you can trust in your house with your keys and your valuables and then someone asks ‘hey whats his favorite color’ and youre like. i dont. actually know

3) solane (they/them nb, gardener ending)

manic overconfident freak. definitely a ‘i wont tell people about my dreams bc it’s like i’m a HERO this way!’ type. saves everyone and extremely proud about it. coasting through life from ages 14-19 until they go find dys after the bomb has gone off and he’s dating. someone else? which makes them freak out bc THEYRE the hero. so instead of being normal about this they become a gardener in a desperate attempt not to be left behind

It’s Bad!

4) solanaceae (he/him cisguy, colonial hero, neutral ending) x / x

this is the one ive been referring to in private as “fascist manwhore sol” and honestly. yeah. just as overconfident as the last but extremely charming about it. the kind of guy you kinda wanna hit but also can’t help but like? somehow manages to be close w/most everyone in the colony despite their various opinions. really really hates the gardeners + even sym, for some reason w/in himself that he can’t explain. 

in Love with dys for most of their lives but cant ever make it work, fwb with rex, dates vace despite having matching tattoos with his ex-gf. hes just that kind of guy. dies young and a hero, less than a year after dys disappears into the ridges. dont think abt it too hard.

5) solane (she/her nb, neutral end, roboticist on accident somehow but a social skills job wouldve fit much better)

if third sol Thinks theyre god this sol like. actually Is. extremely clear dreams, used to talk abt them pretty much always until her first trip to medbay, at which point she stopped ever letting adults know. kind of existentially exhausted as a result. using this life literally just as a coffeeshop au lol. poly but also probably aromantic; open rship w/rex, who they love a lot but no more so than literally any of their other friends. pretty happy with stuff! 

until they go to see dys off when he “vanishes” from the colony and they accidentally let it drop they couldve like. ended the whole war. he’s. displeased. they still make an effort to enjoy the rest of their life but when they die theyre thinking abt how they should try to be a better person next time. and also hoping they remember less.

6) solanaceae (genderfluid but generally refers to self as a lesbian, peace end, botanist) x

cheerful heroine! desperately wants to be normal and tries so so hard to ignore her dreams, which works kind of, right up until they very purposefully ignores the one abt tammy and tammy dies immediately after :) at which point they completely switches gears and uses their dreams to try and save Everyone they can. bffs with nem since childhood & into her pretty much Always. everyone’s friend! dies content and at peace.

interestingly, bc this is the route where i got paradox ending on a save, probably the sol closest to the wormhole + everything about it, despite not actually remembering much from his dreams. it manifests in other ways. lol.

7) solane (she/her cisgirl, neutral end, roboticist)

coward who can only be brave when it’s for the sake of the people she loves, most notably tammy who she actually dislikes until she saves her life, at which point she realizes maybe she Can be a hero too. better with robots than people, spent most of her childhood following cal around bc he was one of hte only ppl to make time for her. falls madly in love w/tammy; their family is her biggest joy. a good parent.

8) solanaceae (he/him agender, neutral end, doctor)

feral intense child who becomes a terrifying eagle-eyed doctor. max perception by age eleven, somehow. STRONG sense of justice. strongest belief is “if you ignore someone you couldve saved, you’re garbage.” not quite high enough friendship w/nem to convince her to leave vace as teens; helps her later on when theyre adults. years and years later after dys “dies” they end up moving in and spend the rest of their lives together.

9) solanaceae (they/them nb, peace end, entertainer)

awkward ace kid who always speaks their mind. accidentally destroys tammy’s confidence every time they talk. gets confessed to by both marz and rex, shoots them down extremely awkwardly due to both aforementioned asexuality and the fact theyve had a crush on dys since they were thirteen. takes their promise to let him go seriously to the point that when he tries to bomb hte colony, they let him, and when he wants to be a gardener, they don’t stand in his way. is alright with this at first but slowly begins to feel lonelier and lonelier about it as time passes, and when they die and realize they won’t actually be with him again they feel. Very Bad. pass on wishing they’d not let him go but resenting him for asking to.

10) solane (she/her cisgirl, neutral end, xeno wrangler)

ive been calling this one “cuckoo bird sol” for a reason. desperately wants someone to be devoted to Her and Her Alone who Won’t Leave, and feels like. cal is good for that. doesn’t like tammy as a result, which means that when she has a nightmare abt tammy dying she doesn't even care, it’s not like its REAL. yeah. It’s Bad! she feels guilty abt it and then feels bad bc she’s also happy bc cal spends more time with her but also she does sure feel like shes competing against a dead girl huh! so! that’s fun!

eventually she does work her shit out and realize she does like cal himself and does want kids on her own terms but like. the process of getting there! one fucked up kid. dies more content than she realized she could be, glad for her family.

11) solanaceae (she/her nb leaning, peace end, parent) x

rowdy. her heart is 80% love and 20% pure unadulterated rage. unaugmented, which she personally doesnt care abt, but she sure does get pissed off at ppl trying to be soooo nice to her abt it! too busy w/sfc stuff during wet and as such completely misses her chance to talk dys out of the bomb. when she finds him on the ridges afterwards they yell at each other abt being in love w/each other for forever and she manages to drag him back home.

in some ways this would be my “golden run” (full friendship with everyone) (jesus christ) but despite that her actual bffs besides dys are tammy and (unfortunately) vace. in another world i would retcon this to ot3 but in this one she kissed sym and then he died in front of her and despite herself she kind of cant stop flinching away from him now if he tries to make a move. they do hinge poly instead it works. has a boatload of kids and never augments any of them. dies exhausted and delighted and in love w/the world. 

12) solane (he/him cisguy, peace ending, parent oops)

delusion run! sol who cant stop talking abt his delusions even when he knows he should. pursues dys in the “we were In Love before so we will be again!” way not the “i like you!” way until he gets. y’know. lobotomized. in some ways not focusing on his dreams is good for him but also he loses a lot of his personality? focus? afterwards

teases tammy relentlessly but ends up falling for her but bc for some reason this run glitched and tammy’s pregnancy just. kept going. she never had the kid? so i didnt date her even tho he wouldve lol. tbh most of th ending for this one is what id consider noncanon for him but ill retcon it later when i have more Vibes in place

13) solanaceae (they/he, peace ending, astronaut) this is a dead dove run (mentions of abuse)

unlucky number thirteen :) sol coming out of a delusion run with the creeping sense that they should not trust Anyone with their secrets. a little disconnected from the ppl around them tho they get on well enough w/dys and tang. madly in love with the wormhole. desperate to get off the planet and back into space so they can see it, a sentiment no one shares until, y’know. vace.

in Love (lol) with him after his 50. first time theyve ever met anyone they think Gets them so they enable him. fucking crushed when he starts dating nem. when he offers to cheat they take him up on it, which means he learns nothing and they lose one of their childhood friends :) eventually they go into space together just like they wanted! it’s bad! die in the wormhole and i think thats the first time they ever truly, from the bottom of their heart, regret everything. never want to fall in love again.

14) sol (no pronouns whenever possible but sort of ok w/they, peace ending, farmer) warning for abuse mentions in this one as well

sometimes you get so badly abused in one life your next life it still affects you! kind of an odd child, gets along better w/congruence than the other kids but thinks of cal is like a brother. doing ok until helios lands and then it’s like. h

avoids vace like the plague, despises/is afraid of him but doesn’t realize why until after sol starts understanding dreams more. when he dies i think sol wants to be like Good Riddance but. cant fully. approaches rex bc sol want to know What’s Up With The Whole Rex+Vace Deal, end up falling pretty hard. dating sym also, the three of them living together is an Experience i think. dies full of Love.

15) solana (he/him tguy, peace end, athlete)

rambunctious! cheerful! kind of dumb! falls in love w/cal from a young age and is convinced they’re gonna grow up and get married and is subsequently crushed when cal starts dating tammy instead esp bc. cal sort of. lead them on a bit w/it. slowly falls in love w/dys in the aftermath.

a bit immature. plays sportsball even in the middle of war, tension with both cal And nem as a result despite still being their bffs. he and nem are on opposite sportsball teams for the rest of their lives and yet go out for drinks after constantly. she’s his sister, basically! dies pretty happy w/how things turned out

16) solanaceae (she/they, neutral end, merchant)

greedy greedy greedy. wants money and love and attention, time and people and things, everyhting you can think of she wants it. she marz and tang are the Terrible WLW Trio of Girls Who Might Be Dating. bit of a soft spot for dys she can’t quite rationalize, will be kind to him when she’s not to anyone else. fond of rex as well.

she and marz flirt by flirting with tang, aka the person she Actually likes. pretty happy when they finally hook up, but isn’t devastated by the breakup as much as she is.... left hollow. another mistake on top of everyhting else (capitalism, dys vanishing, girl shes liked forever dumping her, also theres maybe a fleet from earth coming but haha dw abt it) she tells rex abt the fleet maybe a year? before it shows up. dies wishing desperately she had been able to be kinder.

17) solana (he/him tguy, peace end, professor) x

sugary sweet! childhood friends with tammy, they’re v similar people. loves her a lot, cannot wait to be best man at her wedding to cal LOL. despite his gentle demeanor he is also absolutely the kind of guy to do Whatever It Takes for the ppl he loves (ie poisons uncle tonin to keep him alive LOL)

thinks nomi is like, the coolest person in the universe when they meet bc they can MAKE things. so so stupid about them. when they start dating its embarrassing for everyone but they are so happy together no one can actually say anything. dies happy but wishing he was more confident in himself/brave

aaaaaaaaanyways that’s the current list. for Now. there may be more coming. i have offshoots of some of these as well that may or may not pop up wwww generally for fic that isn’t set with a specific sol i tend towards an nb sol closest to personality+dreams to my sixth sol? cheerful and trying to help but also Just A Kid about it!

Oh my God pls dont go on twitter right now its insane. Some carylers and richonners are again arguing and its tiresome. Honestly. I ship both. My hearts belong to Caryl but im sure the fact that they re not canon like Richonne helped in that. If both had become canon by s6 for instance, i would love them both equally. Once R became canon, i instinctively turned to caryl more because i was starving of content while we had plenty of content for Richonne. But i love them both. And honestly, on twitter, both sides can be horrible. No, not all Richonners are ageist assho... No, not all Carylers are racist cun... definiteny not. And even if u ship only one of them, whatever the ship, its freaking fine. These guys are ruining it for everyone, both sides look pathetics in the eyes of GA.

I cannot fanthom why, in a world full of real fucking problems, there can be people fighting about FAKE characters. Being passionate about a show or a ship is one thing and totally fine. Not being able to separate actors from characters (again, from both sides) is ridiculous.

It is ok to ship whatever u want. Yes, even Bethyl, even Donnie, even Carzekiel, even fooking Learyl or whatever. I could not care less personnally. I ship Caryl, period. And i love Richonne. And Rick loves Carol, Michonne loves Carol, vice versa, Michonne has been closer to Daryl since Rick left, obviously Rick and Daryl are brothers, so all of this doesnt make sense. They re family. If they were real, they would be ashamed of those called fans. And i bet the actors are.

Honestly. Im sick of this fight. The show is over. There s a whole Richonne show coming and they re ruining it for me. They were supposed to be a caryl show, who turned into a daryl show, who might become a caryl one one day we dont know im lost but eh, just enjoy, please, people. This is a show. Not real life. Fight racism and ageism where u find it yes, including on medias, but stop arguing for no reasons over the internet for people who are not even real.

Don't worry, it's not hard to convince me not to go on Twitter lol And I think we're on the same page re the ship war. It doesn't make any narrative sense to pit Richonne and Caryl against each other. Like you said, they're all family.

Michonne has always been in my top favorites and I like her relationship with Rick. I love Andy and Danai as actors. I'd definitely watch their show if it wasn't for Gimple working so hard to invalidate the relationship I'm most invested in. There is no sound business reason why Richonne and Caryl fans can't get what they want. There is no sound marketing reason why fans need to be miserable or at each other's throats all the time.

If I'm understanding correctly, you seem more drawn to the chase than actual canon? While I'm all for earning it, there comes a time when debts need to paid off and that should've happened in S11 for Caryl. There's still plenty of room for compelling storytelling post canon.

favorite and least favorite touhou games and why (cast? gameplay? story? tell me.)

fave games are shinreibyou (13) and danmaku amanojaku (14.3) for different reasons

13 has the largest amount of cast members im very attached to on average in a single game, its visual aesthetic and its ost's soundfont are huge favourites of mine, its introduction of taoism as a major player in the religion war arc is interesting, and it completes the plot setup for the events of touhou gumonkuju ~ symposium of post-mysticism. which is my favourite written work in the franchise if you dont count the concept records. plus it reintroduces spell practice for the first time since 8 which is a godsend. i dont really love the divine spirit/trance mode gimmick and i think its pretty half-baked in execution but everything else about the game besides the gameplay makes up for that. and also it created my fave ship hehehe.

14.3 however is my fave in terms of gameplay, its concept is so fun and executed perfectly and i had a blast with it. its a spinoff where the idea is you are up against danmaku patterns that are impossible to dodge normally, but you are still able to "cheat" by using items that let you delete patches of bullets, wrap around to the opposite side of the screen, turn invincible for a split second, etc. HOWEVER none of the bullet patterns are ever actually impossible, theyre just extremely challenging with a super low margin for error, so trying to see if you can solve the danmaku patterns without using your "cheats" adds an extra risk reward factor and turns the experience into a bit of a puzzle game. its sick as hell. a no-items run is planned for this years gdq if that sounds interesting

LEAST fave games are probably koumakyou (6) and kikeijuu (17)

6 because its just. not very good despite the hype for it. its clunky and unpolished but not in a way thats charming to me like the pc98 games are, and its plot feels extremely out of place with the tone of the windows era. theres no political satire or subtext its just a cheesy run of the mill shmup. if i want what 6 offers ill play a cave game or something instead

17 because as much as i adore that titles story and subtext and worldbuilding and all the things it plays around with conceptually from the bottom of my heart, jesus CHRIST that is a visual overload nightmare of a game. i dont have photosensitivity issues and it still made me sick. there is no justifying such bright flashing backgrounds like 17s that late into zuns career its worse than some of the stuff in 5s backgrounds (sorry 5 ily despite this). that coupled with the fact that you have 3 separate coloured giant flashing power ups on the screen all the time with the wolf/eagle/otter spirits makes it hell on the eyes. its so weird how this is the only windows era game that has these eyestrain problems but they made me have to give up trying to finish it, let alone do a 1cc run. please zun never do something like that again

I wish i could just fall in line about the israel/palestine conflict (because while its called a war, it cant be if one side only has a militia at best)

Just. Fall in line with the most extreme pro-pal arguments-

'fuck israhell! They all need to be shipped back to europe!' (Half the population was expelled or migrated from mena countries, fleeing persecution in places like Yeman and Syria. And the people who were born there? Where would you send them? If they have german ancestors, but speak no german, as an example.)

'They deserve to die for the genocide of Gaza.' (Do you also believe Russians should die because of Putins war on Ukraine? Israel has 7 million jewish people living there. Out of a global population of 15 million. Thats over half of a small population. That death toll would be higher than the jewish victims of the holocaust.)

'Why are you distracting yourself from the real deaths happening in Palestine right now?' (Valid point. I dont like to just look at the here and now. I try to consider how my actions affect the future. Its not perfect, and I think its just pointless ruminating more than anything. But I do try to consider the future.)

Its just. If i could turn my brain off and go with the flow, Id be happier. Id thought for ages i couldnt be affected by peer pressure like neurotypicals can. But this is proving me wrong.

Im so tired. Of trying to think about what im doing. I wanna just be numb to nuance. Black and white thinking would be easier. All Israelis are evil, there is nobody there begging for peace.

(Itd be easier if i could believe that.)

This situation has got me questioning- how much of my earlier beliefs were really mine? And how much was just me passively taking in what people i trusted told me?

Can we get a ceasefire yet? Please?

I dont want to see more people getting blown up or shot or starving. I dont want to see Shani Louks corpse in the ute when I try to go to sleep. I dont want to see Hind when I look at my sister. Hear her cousin screaming as shes shot. Hear Hind begging for someone, anyone, to come take her. See dead babies in tiny bags. See more misinformation spread without regard for who it targets, or hurts. I dont want to try to find news articles that arent inflammatory. I dont want to see people burning themselves alive. I dont want to feel guilty for not being able to donate more money to gofundmes, and fundraisers. I dont want to see people I trusted posting blood libel anymore. Or revisionism. Or warmongering. Havent you (general you) seen enough blood for a lifetime?!?!

It seems to me that everything is spiraling completely out of control. And theres nothing I can do to stop it.

note/s: i havent written in a long, long time and add that to the fact that i dont know jack shit about writing a star wars fic or how to write fight scenes, i had a pretty hard time typing this out. based on my post

"Fuck! Fuck, fuck, fuck-" Din narrowly avoided the throwing knives, moving to hide behind a crate. His chest was heaving with heavy breaths; He hadn't had a difficult bounty in a long time. The bounty was well equipped, surprising him and you.

You. Cyar'ika.

Din clocked where you were and relaxed slightly when he saw you hidden behind a crate like he was. If it were up to him, he wouldn't have brought you along and made you stay at the Crest. But, as much as he has faith in his skills as a bounty hunter, it proved difficult to catch this guy and needed you to help him.

Sighing in frustration, he grabbed the crate and charged at the bounty, using the wood to block the knives. He threw the crate away when he got close enough, immediately doging the weapons held by the guy.

He heard you walking out from your own crate, moving to help you detain the bounty. Glancing at you, he admired the way you ran towards the guy, using the bounty's own knives against him. Din loved that about you; The way you used whatever was around you, be it small or big, as a weapon. You adapted quickly in a fight, and that was something that he, as a mandalorian, was attracted to.

You slashed at the bounty, trying to at least nick the skin, but the guy was quick to sidestep it. The bounty was about to retaliate when Din grabbed their shoulder and threw them away from you. Before the guy could get their bearings back, he lunged to put them in a choke hold, flexing his arms to crush their throat.

Mistake. Din rarely made mistakes.

The bounty struggled against him for a moment, clawing at him and failing due to his beskar. But the bounty, before they lost consciousness, threw his the last of his knives towards you,

Three knives impaled your chest, making you stagger and fall backwards. Three seconds as Din watched felt like three hours. Three steps forward, he tried to catch you, yet he was three steps too late.

Your body landed on your back against the rough ground, pained sounds coming out of your mouth. Din didn’t even register tossing the bounty away as he rushed over to you. Kneeling beside you, his hands hovered above the knives deep in your chest with your blood seeping through your clothes and on the floor.

“K-Ka'rta?” Din breathed out, head empty of all the survival first aid training he had when he was still a little foundling. Your head turned to look at him, mouth open as you struggled to breathe. He saw agony and desperation in your eyes that were usually filled with happiness and love for the people, for the galaxy, for him.

You tried to say something to him, but all that came out was a bloody cough. Din shushed you and tried to carry you in his arms. However, your whines put a stop to his movements, worried that he would hurt you more.

"D-Din... It hurts..." You said with a slight wheeze in your voice. Your skin was quickly becoming pale, the blood loss shocking your body to have less oxygen in your system. He shushed you, his hands resting on your cheeks and wiping your tears and blood away.

"I- I can't take the knives out without you bleeding out on me, ka'rta." Din recalled, his brain finally catching up to what happened. "But I can't move you back to the crest either- Fuck!" He swore, feeling frustrated with his limited options. Options he'd rather not take.

You watched him panic in place, your breaths coming out sharp and short, and lifted a hand to his helmet. "My love, you need to leave now with the bounty. You won't be able to handle them if they wake soon."

Din shook his head, gripping your hand tight as he tried not to cry. "No, I will never leave you, ka'rta. Never. There has to be a way."

But there wasn't.

He watched you blink slowly, your blood spreading all over his armour and gloves, your chest rising and falling erratically. He watched you dying in front of him.

"Don't- Don't close your eyes, baby, stay with me, please," He begged, his gloved palms on either side of your head, lifting you up gently to lay you on his lap. You took his hand and pressed a light kiss on the leather, your bloody smile still so goddamn bright.

"You know I'll always be with you, Din." You let out a shaky breath and rested your forehead on the cool metal of his cuisse. Your eyes crinkled at the corners as you stared up at his helmet. He let your fingers caress the sharp angles of his helmet, wishing it was caressing his cheek instead.

You chuckled lightly, and Din furrowed his brows in concern. Before he could ask you what you where thinking about, you said:

"I wonder if I can see your face since I won't be a 'living thing' any longer."

Din felt his breath catch in his throat. He knew, realistically, that the oxygen in your body was decreasing rapidly and weren't getting enough of it in you brain for it to function properly. But, then again, you weren't wrong. The creed specifically said that no living thing could see his face unless they were clan, and he doubted you could manage to recite the mandalorian vows so close to your passing.

So, Din reached up to release his helmet from the clasp inside, and took it off without thinking about it any longer. Your eyes widened, the hazy gaze you had had gone away just for a moment.

"Din- I-" He took your hand and placed it on his cheek, closing his eyes to savour your touch on his skin. He wouldn't have the chance to do this ever again, and he regretted not asking your hand for marriage sooner. When he opened his eyes, he saw you look at him in awe and felt your thumb stroking his stubble. "You're beautiful."

He broke and cried. Bending down at the waist, he rested his forehead on yours, his tears dripping down on your bloodied skin. He took off his gloves and ran his hand through your matted hair, wanting to feel your skin as well.

"I'm sorry we didn't have more time together," You whispered quietly to him, your own tears rolling down your face. Din shook his head again, unable to find his words to talk. Smiling softly, you ask of him, "Kiss me?"

And he did.

Din didn't care that all he could taste was the the iron of your blood; He pressed his lips on yours, his inexperience obvious with the way he molded your mouths together. You didn't mind, anyway, only enjoying the physical intimacy you regretted not having sooner.

When he pulled away from your soft lips, he opened his eyes only to see you closing yours. Panicking, he held you up to his chest, hugging you tightly as if it would stop you from leaving. "No- Ka'rta, don't go- I need you- I love you-"

Din repeated his words over and over again, his tears increasing tenfold when he felt you fall limp in his arms. Your head sagged back, your beautiful eyes half lidded with a small smile on your face. He held you up with his hand, sobbing as he called your name, and rested your foreheads together; a kedalbe kiss you both frequently shared.

"Ni kar'tayl gar darasuum," He managed to say, cradling your head to his shoulder and rocking your limp body back and forth. Tears streamed down his face, a pressure in his chest building and wanting to be screamed out. His voice broke as he recited an unreciprocated vow. "Mhi solus tome, mhi solus dar'tome, mhi me'dinui an, mhi ba'juri verde."

Din stayed like that for a few minutes, just holding you close to him and pressing kisses on your temple, before he needed to get up. He closed his eyes as he tugged out the three knives out of your bloody body and went to stand over the bounty. Ruthlessly, he stabbed and slashed the guy numerous times until he was sure the bastard was dead. He didn't care for the bounty any longer and left them behind as he carried you back to the Crest with his helmet on.

He didn't pay attention to the people who openly stared at his bloodied armour and your dead body in his arms. He focused on getting you both to the secluded forest where he landed the ship and when he did, he placed you down gently on the soft dirt before digging a hole between the tall trees.

After he finished, he went in the ship to grab the blanket you both liked to cuddle under together and wrapped you in it. He pressed a last, goodbye kiss on your forehead, lingering on your soft, cold skin, because he knew he would never see you again.

He buried you in the ground, trying to shovel the dirt on top of you quickly and methodically to not let his thought go down the spiral of 'I'm burying the love of my life in the ground' and 'I didn't express my love for you enough'.

Din left the planet empty and unfeeling, lonely and mourning, and most importantly, without you.
