Google Working to Fix Gemini AI as CEO Sundar Pichai Calls Some Responses 'Unacceptable'
Tumblr media
Google is working to fix its Gemini AI tool, CEO Sundar Pichai told employees in a note on Tuesday, saying some of the text and image responses generated by the model were "biased" and "completely unacceptable".The company had last week paused the use of its tool that creates images of people following inaccuracies in some historical depictions generated by it.Pichai told employees that some of the tool's responses offended its users and had shown bias."Our teams have been working around the clock to address these issues. We're already seeing a substantial improvement on a wide range of prompts... And we'll review what happened and make sure we fix it at scale," he said. The company now plans to relaunch Gemini AI in the next few weeks. News website Semafor first reported the news, which was later confirmed by a Google spokesperson.Since the launch of Microsoft-backed OpenAI's ChatGPT in November 2022, Alphabet-owned Google has been racing to create a rival AI software. It released the generative AI chatbot Bard a year ago. Earlier this month Google renamed it Gemini and rolled out paid subscription plans, which users could choose for better reasoning capabilities from the AI model.Last week, social media platform Reddit struck a deal with Google to make its content available for training the search engine giant's artificial intelligence models. The contract with Alphabet-owned Google is worth about $60 million (roughly Rs. 497 crore) per year, according to a source familiar with the matter. The deal underscores how Reddit, which is preparing for a high-profile stock market launch, is seeking to generate new revenue amid fierce competition for advertising dollars from the likes of TikTok and Meta Platform's Facebook.© Thomson Reuters 2024Google I/O 2023 saw the search giant repeatedly tell us that it cares about AI, alongside the launch of its first foldable phone and Pixel-branded tablet. P'Aof is just so, so good at establishing the contrast in the leads' personalities. The entire intro scene is the contrast in their lives before their lives overturned. At first, Day was a national athlete, playing matches and Mohk got into fights and ended up in jail. That was when Day started to lose his vision and Mhok lost his sister, his rock. Even in the hospital, Day was treated as if he was a toddler, not a grown adult with an impairment. His frustration is highly justified. The scene in the library pulled at my heart.
The accident didn't just affect Day's vision. His entire sense of self was lost that day. From being an athlete to not being to eat his own food without help. He is no longer treated the same way, not by his family, nor his doctors, or even the job applicants. Mhok was the only one who treated him as if he was nothing more than a rich brat.
As much as he acts punk, Mhok is just a soft boy. His personality shines in every scene, with his eyes and gait. He is just so observant of everything.
The Little Prince reading was when both Mhok and Sun felt seen and heard. The entire scene felt like pure cinema. Such different lives yet they understood each other. Jimmy and Sea nailed their roles. I never felt for a moment that I was watching a show. The whole episode just felt real.

wanted to degoogle my old phone but the community of android forkers is so tiny now, basically there's only support for pixel phones and dedicated linux-based projects. sure you can fork android yourself or mess around with manjaro or whatever if you know what you're doing but i profoundly do not & i am not especially motivated to work that hard. plus most of the maintained & supported projects come with warnings anyway that basic functions might not work out of the box—not just NFC & banking apps, i mean like, phone calls. it sucks so fucking bad that there are like, no real options for most people to have genuine control over devices which are more or less inescapable necessities for most people

Google played a crucial role in shaping the modern internet and still is playing its role. Today, the way we live our lives, and the way we search or look for things is mostly because of Google. It directly or indirectly impacts millions of people and it continues to impact many more lives. Today, most businesses use Google to promote themselves, market their products, and gain sales. They look for ways to increase Google reviews to gain more customers and earn profits in their businesses.

The AI revolution: Google's developers on the future of artificial intelligence | 60 Minutes
"World of AI"
This video fires up my minds inner voices, having to do with memories of boyhood Science Fiction stories/books and past movies, dealing with the computers taking over mankind...
If you watch this video, it will most likely surprise You at how Fast the computer system “Teaches Itself”. I feel that if the computers ‘AI’ can learn and solve problems so easily, than it should be set up to study Health problems and find cures. To Hell with all of those Pharmaceutical corporations that are making a financial killing on medicines that people and animals have to take for the rest of their life. Medicines that some have to take to solve problems that Other medicines cause. It will probably end up as a War between the ‘AI’ computer systems and the Governments that are controlled by Pharmaceutical corporations...

Is Google Planning To Undergo Another Round Of Layoffs? CEO Sundar Pichai Has This To Say
Tech giant Google could be heading towards another set of mass layoffs, just months after it revealed its plans of carrying out some 12,000 job cuts company-wide. In a recent conversation with The Wall Street Journal, CEO Sundar Pichai hinted at the imminent layoffs by stating that the company is planning to streamline its workforce and move "people to our most important areas".
"We’re very, very focused on this set of opportunities we have, and I think there’s a lot of work left. There’s also an important inflection point with AI. Where we can, we are definitely prioritising and moving people to our most important areas, so that is ongoing work,” he said.
Pichai was also asked about the progress made by the company in increasing efficiency by 20%. "We are trying to accomplish that across many different ways. We’re literally looking at every aspect of what we do, and as we said on our last earnings call, we’re thinking about how to re-engineer our cost base in a durable way," he explained, adding that Google is focusing on making "durable savings" and while it is happy with the progress, a lot more work is "left to do".
Tech giants carry out mass job cuts
Pichai's remarks come after Google announced in January that it will be reducing its workforce by 6%, starting with those in the United States. The massive job cuts impacted about 450 employees in India, and coincided with the launch of Bard, a conversational artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot.
Layoffs have become an uncomfortable yet increasingly common practice at multiple big tech companies, including Meta, Amazon, and Twitter. Last month, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced that the company will be firing 10,000 employees in a bid to achieve the 'Year of Efficiency' goal. “This will be tough and there’s no way around that. Over the next couple of months, org leaders will announce restructuring plans focused on flattening our orgs, canceling lower priority projects, and reducing our hiring rates," Zuckerberg said in a blogpost.
