A Guide to Diverse Level Sensors for Point and Continuous Measurement
Accurate and reliable level measurement is essential for delivering efficacy, safety, and optimal performance in the dynamic world of industrial processes and automation. Because they offer solutions for both spot level detection and continuous level monitoring in a range of applications, level sensors are crucial in this field. In this article, we explore the world of sensors and look at the many types that are available, including capacitive, hydrostatic, optical, ultrasonic, potentiometric, and point sensors. Sensors of Levels
Point Level Sensors: These sensors are intended to identify a particular level within a container at a specific point. When the substance reaches a set level, these sensors offer binary feedback. Detecting high or low levels in tanks, silos, and hoppers are common uses. In point level sensing applications, accuracy and precision are essential for providing a prompt and precise response to varying levels.
Level Sensors: In general terms, include a range of designs and technology that serve various contexts and industries. These sensors keep track of the fluid or substance level in a vessel constantly and report the results in real time. They are essential for preserving steady levels, avoiding overflow or run-dry conditions, and streamlining procedures.
Capacitive Point Level Sensors: Capacitive point sensors are useful for detecting a variety of materials, such as liquids, powders, and granular particles, because they operate on the concept of capacitance. Since these sensors provide non-contact sensing, they are perfect for uses where direct contact can be hazardous or impractical.
Optical Point Level Sensors: depend on a light beam’s interruption to determine if a substance is present or absent at a given level. These sensors are useful in sectors like the food and pharmaceutical industries where sensitivity and precision are crucial.
Potentiometric Level Sensors: Potentiometric level sensors use an electrical signal to represent mechanical displacement in order to determine a substance’s level. These sensors are an affordable option for many businesses due to their affordability, dependability, and compatibility for a wide range of liquids.
Hydrostatic Level Sensors: These sensors measure the pressure at the bottom of the container to calculate the liquid level, based on the principle of hydrostatic pressure. In places like water treatment facilities and industrial tanks, where excellent accuracy and stability are essential, hydrostatic level sensors are commonly utilized.
Ultrasonic Level Sensors: Sound waves are used by ultrasonic level sensors to gauge the separation between the sensor and the surface of the substance. Because of their versatility, these sensors can be used in a wide range of industries, such as bulk material handling, chemical processing, and wastewater treatment.
Conclusion:
In conclusion, selecting the right level sensor is essential to ensuring that industrial processes operate smoothly. Capacitive, optical, potentiometric, hydrostatic, and ultrasonic sensors are just a few of the many types of sensors that are available. These sensors can be used for point level detection or continuous level measurement, among other uses. As industries evolve, the integration of these sensors will be critical to optimizing efficiency, ensuring security, and improving the efficacy of several activities.

One of my engineering students who also studies biology has requested a deadline extension for the confetti cannon project.
Since we're working with plant-based confetti, anyway, she really wants to genetically engineer a plant that will "fire" its own seeds. Like a really aggressive dandelion. That is also a blaster.
Her idea is to create a biological confetti cannon that is environmentally friendly, colorful, and (after some time to regrow) self-reloading. It will just take quite a lot of time to grow, crossbreed, and study plants until it is perfected. Maybe even years.
I'm not gonna lie, that sounds cool as hell. These younglings truly are our future. I told her she can have all the time she needs as long as she keeps me updated with frequent lab notes.

having to watch Led Zeppelin interviews to collect comments and every time Robert pretends he grew up working class you can feel Jonesy rolling his eyes like you just KNOW he’s so sick of it you just know Robert’s been playing the fake-poor-boy shtick since 1968.

You know one of the main reasons we should see polycules in fantasy stories? Consider settings where the ‘Power of Love’ is a real, tangible force.
Now just imagine the POWER a fully realized polycule could have.
Like we’ve seen just how much power can be generated by the love between a hero and a love-interest.
Now imagine if we take the love between the heroine and her GF, then add onto that the love between the heroine and her rival-turned-lover, AND the love between the rival and the aforementioned GF who are estranged childhood friends who have finally admitted their long-repressed feelings for each other.
Just turning a couple into a throuple potentially TRIPLES the number of potential love-generating links.
And that’s just with three people in a polycule.
A four-person polycule? That’s SIX times the potential power.
A five-person polycule is TEN times the power.
A six-person is FIFTEEN times.
You can see how this can get nutty VERY quickly.
Heck, imagine if in such a setting, the idea of polycules is initially ridiculed out of some belief that ‘love’ is some finite resource and a polycule is merely dividing up that power.
Only for the protag-polycule to prove this notion DEVASTATINGLY wrong.
#rambling#writing rambling#polycules#power of love#when it comes to the power of love#comparing a couple to a six-person polycule is like comparing a coal-fire steam engine to a multi-reactor nuclear power-plant

"A company in France has developed genetically-enhanced houseplants that remove 30 times more indoor air pollutants than your normal ficus.
Paint, treated wood, household cleaners, insulation, unseen mold—there is a shopping list of things that can fill the air you breathe in your home with VOCs or volatile organic compounds. These include formaldehyde and other airborne substances that can cause inflammation and irritation in the body.
The best way to tackle this little-discussed private health problem is by keeping good outdoor airflow into your living spaces, but in the dog days of summer or the depths of a Maine winter, that might not be possible.
Houseplants can remove these pollutants from the air, and so the company Neoplants decided to make simple alterations to these species’ genetic makeup to supercharge this cleaning ability.
In particular, houseplants’ natural ability to absorb pollutants like formaldehyde relies on them storing them as toxins to be excreted later.
French scientists and Neoplants’ co-founders Lionel Mora and Patrick Torbey engineered a houseplant to convert them instead to plant matter. They also took aim at the natural microbiome of houseplants to enhance their ability to absorb and process VOCs as well.
The company’s first offering—the Neo P1—is a Devil’s ivy plant that sits on a custom-designed tall stand that both maximizes its air-cleaning properties and allows it to be watered far less often.
Initial testing, conducted by the Ecole Mines-Telecom of Lille University, shows that if you do choose to shell out the $179 for the Neo P1, it’s as if you were buying 30 houseplants. Of course, if you went for the budget route of 30 houseplants, you’d have to water them all.
The founders pointed out in an interview done with Forbes last year that once they settled on the species and fixed the winning genetic phenotype, the next part of the process was just raising plants, the same activity done in every nursery and florist in every town in Europe."
Deliveries for the P1 are estimated for August 2024.

Note: I'm not a plant biologist, but if this works the way the company's white paper says it does, holy genetic engineering, Batman.
(Would love to hear thoughts from anyone who is a plant biologist or other relevant field!)

Have you guys heard of cactus leather? Seems like a stylish vegan alternative to leather. Seems sustainable as it is a byproduct of tequila! They also have something similar made out of fruits which would even work for hardcore Vishnu worshipping fruitarians!
