Dedra's obsession with Axis is not what you think

Have you noticed, that in season 2 up until he saw him at Palmo Plaza, Syril never mentioned Andor? Not even a single time. Almost as if he had found peace. He was getting promotions and living happily with his fascist wife. Who very likely had told him not to try to play cop by himself again and that catching Andor and Axis is something she is working on. "Andor must be found" she told Heert.

But let's think about that for a moment. WE know about all the rebel activity Andor really was doing. All the ISB knows about him is that he stole a starpath unit and took part in robbing an imperial garrison. For the ISB Andor is just an opportunistic thief. Why is Dedra saying "Andor must be found" instead of "Axis must be found"? And, the same Supervisor Meero from season 1, who was eager to prove herself, is now ready to give up on all the credit for catching ANDOR ("You can have all the glory"). Why the change of heart?

Also, remember that there was plenty of rebel activity at that time, Dedra could have indulged in hunting and interrogating as many rebels as she wanted to advance her career and satisfy her thirst for crushing terrorist activity and protecting the law and the Empire. Makes no sense for someone so efficient and result oriented like her to be obsessed and wasting time with something that consistently failed to bring results. She even moonlighted on the Axis case after Ghorman throwing all caution to the wind.

Almost as if there was something personal. And I think it's because Axis was connected to Andor and Andor mattered to Syril. And we know, that he had told her about uncle Harlo, so there is no way Syril "I would never lie to you" Karn didn't give her the full story about why he ended up saving her on Ferrix. And then we have Dedra "I give promotions to my meow meow and make sure his predator of a mom doesn't upset him" Meero knowing about Syril's obsession with Andor.

While season 1 Dedra was hunting Axis for her career, season 2 Dedra wanted Andor for Syril and was ready to give up on the glory. She was doing it for him. Even before Ghorman. Because he couldn't go after Cassian himself and it mattered to him. And after Ghorman it became a desperate, self-destructive obsession, the only thing that kept her alive and going. To catch the guy Syril always wanted to catch. The last thing, that connected her to him. The last way she could honour him.

Sooo the writer in me finally woke up from my obsession and here’s what she came up with:

Picture this: Part 2 of Wicked, with a post credit scene.

The audience see Glinda arriving into her bedroom, tired but also ready for a new tomorrow as she gets ready for bed. Only to pause at the sight on her vanity: a black rose, no stem and sitting [center] in front of her mirror, [also aligning with her standing reflection when seeing it].

Confused, she looks about and only see her window, opened but hardly enough space to let a single rose in. Now cautious, she heads over to the vanity, reaching - then pausing, hesitating - then reaching out to touch and pick up. Only to gasp and drop it as the flower’s petals turn color — black to pink. She then recognized the flower, being the exact to the one she placed in Elphaba’s hair [during the Popular song, before claiming Elphaba as beautiful].

Overwhelmed by emotions, she freezes as her eyes tears up, but breaks out of it when the window door opens further to let the wind in, causing the flower to shift and Glinda to catch it in time before it could fall. Holding it in her palm, [Ariana makes] Glinda feels a sense of calming [Imagine that a sensory touch of Elphaba’s magic is on her palms, a tiny lingering that gives off the idea of her living and as it fades, it also implies her being hidden from Oz but now Glinda is aware of it].

A mix of happiness and sadness lays at her growing smile, later placed aside next to an emerald object [I’m thinking a broach, just a random black jewelry with a large emerald in the center that can remind her of Elphaba that she found somewhere without anyone questioning and/or noticing] near the mirror. Touching a petal, then tracing down to touch the emerald, a single tear shed but her smile stays as she then gets up, closing the window door and returning to get ready for bed.

[The camera view then lays at the two unique objects, symbolizing their personalities and existence - the objects a near swap of their respective beings’ personalities - that would be odd to see together but somehow worked. Then, from the audience’s perspective, as we hear the instrumental work playing, we reached a part where [Ariana and Cynthia’s off screen voices] Glinda and Elphaba sings a synchronized note to one word — “Unlimited”. The word bears a key note that gives the end of their story to the audience, as well a reference to Part 1 when both girls sung the word separately in Defying Gravity. Also off screen (CGI, really), the sunset then lays at the objects, the emerald shining in a near glow from the light (symbolizing how much Glinda means to Elphaba even when apart for good – get it? 🙃🥲 – as well Elphaba’s escape from the Emerald City during a sunset, and how the whole experience started with the use of the green bottle). And after the instruments lead the movie to its final end as the screen fades to black…]

feeling sorry for the fans of a popular danmei novel now experiencing what it's like to have it adapted into a screenplay by a certain person, this too happened to me in 2018 🙏

"He would not fucking say that" - but if he had the words and was allowed to show emotional vulnerablity, would he? "It's not realistic these characters would communicate this well" - what if realism is not the goal in my fanfiction? What if I want to explore what might happen if these characters were didicated to open communication, stumbling and flailing along the way yet stubborn, and if they gradually learnt? "I only understood my feelings and reached those insights after years of therapy, which that character did not have" - nice you got the help you needed! There are other ways than therapy of coming to such insights, however, especially with the medical mental health field being what it is. I had a therapist who mistreated my autism as social anxiety and that only taught me to lie and distrust and hide my struggles better. Yet talking with other autistic people did so much for me - is it so strange to write of characters experiencing something similar?

Part of the (many!) functions of narratives is that they provide us with social scripts that help us navigating difficult conversations. One of the things I try to do with my little fics is say, hey, here's some ways you might bring up your past sexual abuse. Here are some words you might use to explain your identity to others. Here, have a way of refusing something you don't want. Here is a thing or two you might say in reaction to someone opening up to you about their traumatic experience or mental health struggles or anything else they are going through. If my writings have helped even one person in such a situation, it's already been worth it. I firmly believe that many people around us do care about other people's wellbeing and want to help, but simply don't know how to start or maintain that conversation. And opening up and reaching out and connecting can also be so scary and hard. What I want to do most of all is write some little stories into the void, offer some words so they might lessen silence and isolation for at least a few, because feeling alone is the worst of all

Why are FE fans so toxic and hostile to Fates story fans or anyone with 'wrong opinions' on gameplay or story, in possibly the most subjectively-driven JRPG series on the market?

What gets me is how they try to enforce this idea of an absolute consensus and that anyone who questions it or sees it differently is to be excluded, and I have no idea imagining what motivates that kind of zero-sum thinking other than a deeply immature fandom. What do you think?

On the whole I think it's less so that most FE fans are toxic themselves, but most are quite apathetic to the very loud minority of actually immature and rude people, therefore it comes across as a much bigger issue than it would be otherwise.

Like, yes, it's still a small number of people making mean comments, but in combination with sites like Reddit that encourage mini popularity contests, the fact that believing Fates' story is irredeemable garbage is only a moderately exaggerated widely held belief means that often the side in favor of bashing the game's writing has more soft support.

That said, part of what matters is approaching it in the first place, which has its pros and cons. Obviously there's a short term rush from trolling people who clearly take things seriously on a conditional/subjective basis, but that comes at the cost at people not giving you the time of day going forward.

Approaching the issue with a blanker slate theoretically means less hostility, but in practice (at least for me), you start to run into the incredibly bull-headed group of people who are immovably within the camp that Fates was written badly and no kind of interpretation can save it. They'll say it nicely, but it's still effectively a proud admission that some plots aren't worthy of their engagement for one reason or another.

I've fallen off on interacting with the FE fandom on anything other than here, mainly because of the sense of, like, "definitive consensus" on what makes a quality game in the series becoming rampant and suffocating, that any uncommon belief or theory that wasn't in the specifically designated "hot takes" threads or whatnot, were met with nonchalant "man if only this was done better in [X] way" or "[Y] character deserved to be in a better game" and blah blah blah.

Needless to say, it's been pretty chill not feeling the need to really interact with the main big boys in other forums anymore.

hv u seen that twt post of a fan asking sky abt a bl w nani and he said if the script is suitable/appropriate he may consider it.... yknow we just need a GOOD script n everything would b fine.. his older fans said that sky is rlly known for picking scripts that is best for him. 🙏🏻

yess i've seen it !! honestly love that response, it's awesome that he really considers the scripts and projects before he chooses them. that's how you get quality works, when everything behind it is intentional and you know thought was put into it :) and we know that if (when) we get the skynani bl, it WILL be a masterpiece 😌

now we just have to manifest for that script to come along 😩 p'aof p'boss i'm counting on u 🙏🙏
