Im surprised on how many people are getting the Fractured Jinx skin. Im also surprised that they included the Sanctum (its called sanctasanctórum in spain translation there's NO WAY in hell im pronouncing that) in the loot tab but this being the first thing that pops up, if you want to check your loot like chest and keys you have to go through the sanctum tab.
I dont see the point on bullying the people who bought the skin. Im sorry but banning Ahri and bashing people over buying the skin like last time is one of the most ridiculous tactics of boycott i've ever seen and clearly we didnt get anything even close to an apology or a lower price. In fact we are getting more skins and im sorry but this was completely inevitable. NOT THAT I AGREE THIS SHOULD HAPPEN. I think its completely disgusting. The three skins. The Ahri, the Jinx and the Sett. Completely disgusting and reaching levels of illegality.
Also... saw the senior writing and storytelling twitter account posting about getting the Jinx skin and people asked 'you guys dont get it for free?' and they said 'we get a ton of rps by the end of the year so it was tecnically free'. You mean your workers arent in the partner program while random ass streamers get all skins for free????? gtfo.
#this is reaching levels of illegality#and you know what i find funny?#even if they arent directly related#how is it possible we are getting these 250$ skins#and we are getting these fugly ass cards designs reusing existing illustrations from lor and league#its SO OUT OF POCKET how little they work and how much they charge#im sorry and i really. really. REALLY. respect the people behind skins.#but this jinx skin is absolute shit.#and its not the fault of the 3d sculptors or the designers or the illustrator of the splashart NOT EVEN THE PEOPLE WHO WROTE THE LINES#this skin is shit because of the price because IT LOOKS BAD with this price tag.#i dont see why riot didnt make this a skin type between the legendary and the definitive skins#they have the quality of a legendary and the 3 in 1 skins but they dont have enough particles or game changers to become a definitve#if legendaries are worth around 15-20$ and definitives around 30-40$ i dont see why these cant be 30-35$ worth skins#i dont think the price is fair like that BUT STILL this skin becomes so much more valuable and pretty when put in a fair price.#the fact that the workers arent getting the partnership program and that they have to buy skins when riot gives them rp or from their own#pocket is absolutely disgusting while riot is giving asshole streamers the privilege for the only reason of playing their game and promotin#absolute levels of SHIT

Surge and Kit's partnership is very interesting to me. Obviously Starline designed them to work well together, and he specifically conditioned Kit to be subservient to Surge, but their relationship seems to have blossomed into one of genuine mutual trust and camaraderie, while Starline intended them to practically be master and slave.
When they were introduced, Kit was a lot quieter, and Surge would generally disregard him, or berate him when he spoke out of turn. Kit seemed very fearful of Surge's outbursts.

As time goes on, however, regardless of her assigned leader role, Surge seems more and more like she genuinely values Kit's intelligence, and she will often turn to him for guidance and strategy. Kit, meanwhile, has become a lot more prone to speaking his mind, and isn't nearly fearful of Surge as when he was introduced.

Surge has become a lot kinder to Kit, often petting him and calling him by the affectionate nickname "Drippy." She also regularly confides her feelings in him.

Their relationship has ended up much more like a big sister and little brother. They banter, look to eachother for comfort, and have eachother's backs. Mimic wasn't really wrong when he called them codependent, but there's a genuine fondness here, born from shared trauma.

Ironically their cooperation ended up being far better than it probably would have if Starline's plans had gone the way he hoped. Rather than just brainwashing, their shared desire for revenge brought them together. You can't program that.

It looks like a coming arc might drive a wedge between them, but I kinda hope they just end up better friends in the end. Sometimes found family is your fellow test subject who you got kidnapped and tortured with.

announcing spiritkeep: a therapeutic ttrpg
howdy all! some big announcements!!!
first, im nearing the end of my master's program, studying rhetoric and writing, games, and educational psychology. im about halfway done with my thesis, and figured it was time to make an announcement …
my thesis, entitled "designing spiritkeep: therapeutically applied RPGs as a discourse community" is … about what it says on the tin :) in it, I look at the practice of TA-RPGs, which are TTRPGs run for the express purpose of inducing therapeutic growth. TA-RPGs are usually run by a clinician, like a therapist or counselor, or a certified therapeutic game master. my thesis is looking at the needs of therapeutic game masters as a community and asking … what do they need from TTRPGs that isn't currently available?
the thesis takes concepts from rhetoric, linguistics, game studies, literature studies, psychology, and more to ask the question … what would a TTRPG specifically designed for therapeutic use look like? i examine concepts like bleed, close to home characters, dramatic rehearsal, performative speech acts, fixed vs growth mindsets, information processing theory, and more. i also look at criteria set forth by current TA-RPG practitioners for what makes a good TA-RPG, and examine five current games against those criteria. then, i put together the research into a foundation for spiritkeep, a dedicated TA-RPG
spiritkeep is designed around the goal of helping teens and adults heal from complex trauma
that said, its perfectly suitable for a homegame as well, as long as everyone is on the same page and approaches it with the mindset of collaborative growth. all in all, it's still going to be a fun game and a good TTRPG!!
in spiritkeep, you play as a smalltown taskforce with the shared goal of restoring your currently struggling community to a thriving state. you go out on missions like finding resources, diplomacy with neighboring cities, researching ecological problems, and more, while you slowly make your town a better place to live. spiritkeep includes collaborative worldbuilding, a large assortment of playbook options like the Wayfarer, the Knight, the Ghost, or the Shepherd (all designed to hit where it hurts, at least a little!), and a brand new system inspired by PBtA, FitD, BOB, WoD, and more. while the game is designed around grappling with identity and learning how to grow, it can also get a bit tactical and crunchy!! the new dice mechanic makes you think on your feet with every roll
this announcement is also to say that i am beginning the initial crowdfunding of the game through itch. right now, im trying to raise funds to pay the fee to my school to make my thesis open access, meaning anyone can read it. then, remaining funds will go towards things like resources, consultants, art for the kickstarter, and everything else i need to get this project off the ground. ideally, ill be able to team with a publisher to cover the logistics of business while i can focus on the game itself. once the game is finished, there will still be plenty of playtesting, consulting, and other work to do. but!!! this post marks my first steps towards what has been my dream for years now
this sale is how im starting the funding process. it includes the zine preview of my thesis, covering my chapter outline and big concepts, and also my first TA-RPG: with breath & sword, a solo game to help players calm down from anxiety. both items have community copies available: please feel free to grab one if you can't contribute !!
questions, comments, or partnership offers can be sent to psychhoundgames @ gmail(.)com
thanks y'all!!! wish me luck!!!! 🥰🥰🥰

JOBLESS & JUVENILE: A NEW FUTURE FOR THE UNEMPLOYED?
By Emily Dawson, Investigative Reporter
For decades, governments have struggled with rising unemployment. Now, in partnership with Pampers Corporation, a revolutionary solution has emerged—one that provides financial security, housing, and a structured daily routine for those out of work for extended periods.
The "Retraining & Relaxation Program" (RRP) is a bold new initiative that reimagines what it means to be unemployed. Rather than forcing job-seekers to endure endless applications, stress, and uncertainty, RRP offers them something better: a fresh start, free of adult burdens. Enrolled participants receive free housing, nutritious meals, and a basic income—but in exchange, they must embrace the Pampers lifestyle.
For some, it’s a dream come true. For others, it’s a nightmare.
"I Never Want to Grow Up Again!" – A Happy Little Student
At Sunny Steps Learning Center, one of the program's many Retraining Facilities, I meet Steve, 25, who has been enrolled in RRP for four months. The moment I step into the playroom, he rushes up to greet me, his Pampers crinkling loudly beneath his onesie as he bounces on his heels.
“Hi-hi, Miss Emily!” he chirps, his voice light and playful. “Didja come to play too?”
Steve, once a struggling software developer, no longer concerns himself with résumés, bills, or job interviews. Instead, his days are filled with storytime, snack breaks, and supervised play. He eagerly shows off his favorite toys, his plump diaper sagging slightly but still holding strong—a testament to Pampers’ renowned absorbency.
"I used to be sooo stressed all the time," he tells me, plopping onto a soft mat. "Always worried 'bout money, 'bout findin’ work. But now? I just get to be me! No worries, no hard stuff! Just nap, snack, and play!"
I ask if he ever thinks about returning to adulthood. He looks at me like I’ve suggested something completely absurd.
"Nooo way! Big-boy life was way too hard! I like my diapers, I like my nap times, and I LOVE snackies! Who’d wanna give that up?"
It’s difficult to argue with the enthusiasm in his voice, especially when he kicks his feet happily, completely unconcerned as his caretaker comes over to check his Pampers. The program has given him everything he needs—and taken away everything he doesn’t.
A Different Perspective: "I Don't Belong Here!"
Not everyone shares Steve’s enthusiasm. Dana, 29, is in the program as well, but she’s far from thrilled about it. She shifts uncomfortably on the bench where we meet for our interview, the thick pull-ups beneath her skirt crinkling softly with every movement.
"This is humiliating," she huffs, crossing her arms. "I had a career. I just hit a rough patch! How does that mean I should be treated like a preschooler?"
Unlike Steve, Dana is still classified as a “transition student”, meaning she hasn’t yet fully regressed. She is in the pull-up phase of the program—technically given some independence, but still under heavy supervision. She is required to ask permission for bathroom breaks, follow a strict bedtime, and participate in “learning activities” designed for early childhood development.
"I try to use the toilet whenever I can," she insists, glaring at the playroom around us. "But they’re always watching. They say ‘oopsies happen’ and that it’s okay to have accidents, but I don’t want to have accidents! I’m not a baby!"
Before I can respond, Dana suddenly tenses. A blush creeps up her face, and she quickly looks down, her hands clutching the bench. Seconds later, she gasps softly—a nearly inaudible whimper—as a warm, wet patch spreads across the front of her pull-up.
A nearby caretaker notices immediately. "Oh, Dana, honey," she coos, kneeling beside her. "That’s why we wear our special trainers, remember? Let’s get you all dry, sweetheart."
Dana's face burns with shame as she’s gently led away by the caretaker, a visible waddle in her step from the bulky, swollen pull-up sagging between her thighs.
"See? This is what I mean!" she cries, her voice cracking. "They’re MAKING me like this!"
But is she truly being "made" into anything? Or is she simply proving that some people, no matter how much they protest, aren’t quite as ready for adult responsibilities as they believe?
A Program with Results
As more participants enter the Retraining & Relaxation Program, the statistics speak for themselves. Over 97% of enrollees never return to the workforce, choosing instead to remain in the program permanently.
Psychologists point to reduced stress, structured care, and positive reinforcement as the key factors behind its success. Pampers’ high-quality, ultra-absorbent protection ensures that comfort and security are never a concern, allowing participants to focus solely on their retraining.
Despite some criticism, it’s clear that the RRP is achieving what traditional welfare programs never could—not just financial stability, but true, lasting contentment.
“Some people just aren’t built for the pressures of adult life,” says Dr. Amelia Brooks, a behavioral specialist working with the program. “And that’s okay. With the right care, they can live much happier, healthier lives without unnecessary stress.”
Perhaps the only question left is this: Is unemployment truly the problem? Or is adulthood itself?
(Sponsored in part by Pampers Corporation. Because some people were never meant to grow up.)

"Seven federal agencies are partnering to implement President Biden’s American Climate Corps, announcing this week they would work together to recruit 20,000 young Americans and fulfill the administration's vision for the new program.
The goals spelled out in the memorandum of understanding include comprehensively tackling climate change, creating partnerships throughout various levels of government and the private sector, building a diverse corps and serving all American communities.
The agencies—which included the departments of Commerce, Interior, Agriculture, Labor and Energy, as well the Environmental Protection Agency and AmeriCorps—also vowed to ensure a “range of compensation and benefits” that open the positions up to a wider array of individuals and to create pathways to “high-quality employment.”
Leaders from each of the seven agencies will form an executive committee for the Climate Corps, which Biden established in September, that will coordinate efforts with an accompanying working group. They will create the standards for ACC programs, set compensation guidelines and minimum terms of service, develop recruitment strategies, launch a centralized website and establish performance goals and objectives. The ACC groups will, beginning in January, hold listening sessions with potential applicants, labor unions, state and local governments, educational institutions and other stakeholders.
The working group will also review all federal statutes and hiring authorities to remove any barriers to onboarding for the corps and standardize the practices across all participating agencies. Benefits for corps members will include housing, transportation, health care, child care, educational credit, scholarships and student loan forgiveness, stipends and non-financial services.
As part of the goal of the ACC, agencies will develop the corps so they can transition to “high-quality, family-sustaining careers with mobility potential” in the federal or other sectors. AmeriCorps CEO Michael Smith said the initiative would prepare young people for “good-paying union jobs.”
Within three weeks of rolling out the ACC, EPA said more than 40,000 people—mostly in the 18-35 age range—expressed interest in joining the corps. The administration set an ambitious goal for getting the program underway, aiming to establish the corps’ first cohort in the summer of 2024.
The corps members will work in roles related to ecosystem restoration and conservation, reforestation, waterway protection, recycling, energy conservation, clean energy deployment, disaster preparedness and recovery, fire resilience, resilient recreation infrastructure, research and outreach. The administration will look to ensure 40% of the climate-related investments flow to disadvantaged communities as part of its Justice40 initiative.
EPA Administrator Michael Regan said the MOU would allow the ACC to “work across the federal family” to push public projects focused on environmental justice and clean energy.
“The Climate Corps represents a significant step forward in engaging and nurturing young leaders who are passionate about climate action, furthering our journey towards a sustainable and equitable future,” Regan said.
The ACC’s executive committee will hold its first meeting within the next 30 days. It will draw support from a new climate hub within AmeriCorps, as well as any staffing the agency heads designate."

I see so much RadioStatic backstory of “they were friends but Alastor broke Vox’s heart” but I would like you to consider:
Vox, soon after his death and feeling lost and disconnected, seeking out other sinners with an interest in the only connecting point he has to others, media.
And, in doing so, he goes out of his way to make the acquaintance of the Radio Demon, the only overlord who seems to have the same passion for entertainment that Vox does himself.
And Alastor does not get approached by anyone, because everyone is terrified of him; his only real connection since his own death has been Rosie, and they bonded over cannibalism, not the art of entertainment.
But Vox wants to make his acquaintance, Vox wants to talk shop with him, and Alastor finally has someone with whom he can discuss storytelling and evolutions in broadcasting technology, someone he can stay up with all night who appreciates rye as much as he does and who listens to his infodumping with real rapt attention and who does his own infodumping in a way that Alastor finds compelling.
Alastor tells Vox all about what it was like during the birth and rise of radio and what it was like to run a radio program back during a time when it was the hot new thing.
And Vox teaches Alastor about television, and about writing serialized scripts meant to be seen and heard, and about filming and audio recording and costuming and set design.
And Alastor is subversive and forward-thinking, and he loves television; he loves seeing what beautiful and visual things can be done with the serialized stories he always loved writing for his radio program.
Vox is someone Alastor readily calls his friend.
But Vox is a capitalist, above all else, willing to throw away his artistic integrity and smother his own creativity in his eagerness to chase whatever is new because it is new, and Alastor watches that bright spark that had drawn him to Vox become buried under the weight of corporate greed.
And when Vox asks Alastor to join him, Alastor says no, because the Vox who asked for his partnership was not the same man that Alastor sat up all night with so many years, he was not the same man that Alastor wrote ridiculous scripts with, he was not the same man who approached Alastor without a hint of fear flickering on his screen and introduced himself with a cautious smile and a sincere compliment for his last broadcast.
Alastor says no, because this man is not his Vox; this man, instead, murdered his Vox and is wearing his skin like a grotesque costume.
Alastor says he hates television, because television reminds him of a time he almost permitted himself vulnerability, and can’t admit that it destroyed him.
What if, instead, Vox was the one who broke Alastor’s heart?

Is empty house means empty wallet?
There are 12 sectors (zodiac sign + house) in astrology that reflect different aspects of your life. At this point, if you have planets in 12 houses, a planet being in that house as well as the rulers means you should have more focus in that area. For example, too many planets (2) in a tenth house with Venus aspects or rulers (Taurus and Libra) signifies that your career might be related to Venus qualities such as modeling, rebranding, or makeup (products, tutorials, etc.). Hence, I know some of you might ask: So what to do if none?
Empty Planet in 1st house
Aries: self image, rebranding and investing
Empty Planet in 2nd house
Taurus: depends on your own efforts. Kinda Similiar to 1st.
Empty Planet in 3rd House
Gemini: Person's activity, and investment (education, training and self development -professional)
Example: Graphic Designer, Artworks related, Freelance writer and etc
Empty Planet in 4th house
Cancer: Anything related to fostering homes, and building connections (social network)
Example: adopting a dog (female), and let them grow after that you can sell her puppies. Or you can build a pets/ poultry suppliers.
Empty Planet in 5th house
Leo: Anything related to pleasure, wholesome stuff, makes you happy and alive, self-expression, recreation, and innovation.
Example: Build a program (school, playground, or be a Yaya for a day) and alike
Empty Planet in 6th house
Virgo: anything related to health, wellness, and daily routines
Example: Be secretary, write a blog about health and wellness, Be a Yoga instructor, or Drugs Cashier in some malls, teacher and more.
Empty Planet in 7th house
Libra: anything related to partnership, business and interest in society as a whole.
Example: Be an event planner, teacher, or social media influencer starts to sell your self in social media.
Empty Planet in 8th house
Scorpio: money houses, long term success or growth career, real state investments and financial portfolios
Example: rentals of your personal collection like shoes, etc.
Empty Planet in 9th house
Sagittarius: Travel, higher learning, personal philosophy, exploration and intellect
Example: You may consider writing a story or list of quotes on a known website and look for a small publisher until you get recognized. You can also Teach foreign ppl in diff countries to use other languages.
Empty Planet in 10th house
Capricorn: public image, career aspiration and achievement, and more on ppl oriented.
Example: vlogger, streamer, content creator, YouTuber and alike
Empty Planet in 11th house
Aquarius: humanitarian and personal networks. Anything that may show your passion and interest in specific content.
Example: musician, or be friends with famous people (they can help you a lot), then let them see your talents. I've known a lot of Aquarius placements tend to be very talented. You just have to precise and be stick with good purpose cause double karma occurs if you're not.
Empty Planet in 12th house
Pisces: Mysterious side of humanity, mind, and life
Example: be a tarot reader, practice gambling, or any creative outlets.
✎ There are no such things as empty planets. The empty planets are ruled by the "lord" or "zodiac signs" inside them. Although I don't really believe it's not your main focus but more in IT'S YOUR HIDDEN GOAL AND SUCCESS, I've heard a lot of women who have their second house empty, but years later become rich due to partnerships, investments in education, and such. We have this called "transitting of each sign."
✎ take note that this is not a dynamic and astrology is about multifaceted interpretation. The question of where and what you can do to make money can vary depending on the whole system of your chart (aside from your energy). For me, I need to see the whole birth chart before I give the exact meaning of it. Every chart is different, so I can't provide full, detailed information about it.
✎You have to look for your MC (signs), Jupiter house +signs (power), Saturn (warnings/challenges occur) and Moon placed (for reminder why you started, why you need to work something like that) if you don't like your moon, then look for your south code. Or if you dont know how to start, look for the (Pluto). Find inspiration in everything :) God bless!
Plagiarism is A crime.

Omega's Observations: Fire/Warning
Summary: Omega contemplates how others see his dynamic in Team Dark.
For @teamdarkweek. 657 words.
The assumption amongst the meatbags within the GUN organization is that Rouge and Shadow are his “minders”, and that Omega himself is some sort of crude automation incapable of processing anything other than “DESTROY ALL EGGMAN ROBOTS”.
Omega didn’t correct their assumption at first. (His mistake. One of very few he’s ever made.) It didn’t matter what any meatbag thought at the time- at least, according to his earliest assessments. Early assessments that were made only the first few weeks following his escape from Eggman’s imprisonment.
But now? The assumption that he is not an Ultimate Robot, that he is nothing more than a jumble of corrupted code crudely piloting the firearms on his frame? That he requires Rouge and Shadow in order to act or assess a situation?
It’s a rage second only to his rage against Eggman proper.
Killing everyone who turned and asked Rouge or Shadow about him whilst he was standing next to them would be a cathartic strategy, but it would also further the misunderstanding. Bystanders would assume that it was “an accident” and that he “didn’t mean it”, that he “was just programmed that way” and “didn’t fully grasp the consequences”.
There are other battlefields besides destroying Eggman robots, he has learned, and he will dominate them all. Even if it means not acting on his impulses. Even if it means playing these stupid games that meatbags invent for themselves, such as conversation and social standings.
Instead, he gives warnings. Violent, graphic warnings, about what he would like to do with their viscera. But warnings nevertheless. The Commander is still not pleased, but upon being given the explanation, he has accepted it as a suitable compromise.
Rouge is supportive. Shadow is. . . tolerant of it.
Not that their opinions would ever control him. That is an arrangement the three of them reached a mere few hours after meeting each other, and it is the reason they are the only ones he tolerates joining him on missions.
They are not his minders. They know this. They do not try to control his rampages. He fights alongside them, will destroy Eggman robots with them, but there is an understanding that if they find themselves disliking his methods they will withdraw, and leave him to it.
They have yet to leave.
Even greater, they have kept up. Enough for him to upgrade their designation from “temporary alliance” to “partnership”, then even to “teammate”. Shadow was a given- his destructive potential is second only to himself, and he understands the rage that drives him. Rouge was the unexpected party- yet as her strategic aptitude gave way to more and more victories, she too was proven to be an exceptional teammate.
Teammates. Not his minders. Not his leaders.
And yet. . .
The command to “fire!” is his favorite word to hear from them.
“Over here, Omega, fire!”
“Kick their asses, Omega! FIRE!”
Shadow and Rouge, not simply tolerating his talent for destruction, not covering it up, not waving it off or agreeing halfheartedly to get him to shut up about it. Not belittling him, or asking if he “cares about anything else”, or “jeez, you should find a hobby”, or “that isn’t what life is all about”, or any of the thousands of other things inane meatbags say in his general direction on a near-daily basis.
Shadow and Rouge simply ask him to fire.
Omega is not bound to their orders. Yet there is little greater joy he feels than when he rains hellfire down-range in response- and finds them looking so pleased about it. Something like satisfaction swells in his processor whenever they clap him on the shoulder or tell him “good shooting”. It is tinged with just enough of his own pride to keep him from investigating it any further.
He will never tell them about this.
Instead, he will ask “PERMISSION TO FIRE?”, if only to hear Rouge and Shadow urge him forward yet again.

Cybot (2001) by the Cybernetics Intelligence Research Group at Reading University, and Eaglemoss Publications. Cybot is an insect-like robot that can be assembled from parts available fornightly on the cover of 'Real Robots' magazine (issues 1-17), 2001-2002. The magazine guides its readers through the stages of building and programming their Cybot. The Cybot is a three-wheeled robot, the front wheel is a castor wheel, with two motorised rear wheels. It has a light sensor, and four ultrasonic obstacle detectors. Cybot is the result of a year-long partnership between The University of Reading and Eaglemoss Publications. Designed by a team of robotics researchers in CIRG (the Cybernetics Intelligence Research Group) at the University, Cybot uses many of the techniques used in the research robots at the University as well as incorporating a range of new features designed especially for the magazine and kit collection. The design of Cybot is based on the University's Seven Dwarf Robots.
"From the outset it looked all rather fun and promising. My experience though with it, was rather more tricky. At first, it was like the above; my Mam got me a subscription to the magazine, and as the issues piled up, I received a binder for the issues, and some VHS tapes revealing the history and information about the project leading up to the Magazine, and some hints at future abilities. … The front body panels, where several of the sensors were fitted, was a struggle to fit in, even for my parents, and some of the screws were lost. … Then it worked, albeit very briefly. We built the docking station (which I still have), and the headset; but then Cybot just stopped working. My Mam suggested that it must be something to do with the internals, but as we didn’t know what, Cybot just gathered dust. Then the issues, and components just piled up, with nothing we could do with them." – Cybot and Real Robots, by genepool10.

From 1862 until 1923, US senators and members of Congress provided vast numbers of seeds to constituents. At its peak, the congressional seed distribution program delivered over 60m seed packets directly to farmers and market gardeners every year, helping introduce new varieties of everything from wheat and corn to oats, soybeans, flowers and vegetables. A century later, far fewer Americans till the soil for a living, but seeds remain central to our lives.
Maintaining the seed diversity and abundance we rely on requires constant development of new varieties to combat disease, increase production and adapt to changing conditions. Seed advances are particularly urgent now, as farmers confront the fickle weather of a warming planet while working to meet a projected 50-60% rise in global food demand by 2050. Although elected officials no longer send out seeds through the mail, federal support for these efforts remains vital.
In the era of Doge, that support has been flipped on its head.
The US Department of Agriculture employs many plant breeders directly and funds many more through grants and partnerships, but the crown jewel of its seed program resides in a bunker-like building in Fort Collins, Colorado. The national seed bank houses more than 2bn carefully preserved specimens in a facility designed to withstand floods, fires, earthquakes, power outages and tornadoes. With over 620,000 varieties from nearly 17,000 different species, it is one of the world’s largest seed collections and a major supplier to the global seed vault in Svalbard, Norway.
It is also at risk.
While words like “vault” and “bank” imply simply turning the key and walking away, managing a seed collection demands constant activity. Even in cold storage, the specimens steadily degrade and must be tested regularly to make sure they’re still viable. When germination rates drop for any particular sample, those seeds must be planted and grown to maturity – in the right conditions – to produce a fresh supply. That activity takes place at over 20 research stations in locations (and climates) as diverse as North Dakota, Texas, California, Hawaii and Puerto Rico.
Known officially as the US National Plant Germplasm System, the seed bank and its network of regional facilities recently lost 10% of their workforce in the Doge firings, including farm managers, research scientists, lab technicians, IT specialists, orchardists and more. Some have since been rehired, at least temporarily, but the program remains in turmoil. Projects interrupted or suspended range from germination trials to seed regeneration, research lending and many longterm breeding programs, weakening the entire enterprise.
Plants don’t wait on politics. Any seed varieties lost now will simply be unavailable to improve crops and address challenges in the future. The importance of a robust and diverse seed bank cannot be overstated. To combat the invasive Russian wheat aphid, for example, plant breeders screened over 54,000 wheat and barley samples to find a handful of precious strains with natural resistance.
It’s time for Congress to return to the seed business. Without its intervention, backed by the courts, additional firings appear imminent. Undermining the nation’s seed security undermines its food security and embodies the definition of reckless: “utterly unconcerned about consequences”.

In celebration of International Day of the Girl, Meghan, The Duchess of Sussex, visited Girls Inc. of Greater Santa Barbara to engage with young girls about their experiences growing up in the digital age. She was joined by Larissa May (founder & executive director of Half the Story), and Dr. Stephanie J. Hull (CEO of Girls Inc). (10/2/24)
This visit coincided with the announcement of contributions from The Archewell Foundation, Pivotal Ventures, and the Oprah Winfrey Charitable Foundation to support a partnership between Girls Inc. and #HalfTheStory, aimed at delivering essential digital wellness programming to girls in underserved communities across America.
Meghan Markle joined the girls for a screen-free afternoon of games, friendship bracelets, coloring, and some frank talk about social media. The Social Media U curriculum that Meghan helped test out last week with middle school–age kids was designed with the help of its teen advisory board. “We really wanted to make sure that the teens at “Half The Story” were able to give their input on the type of experience that we would create. Ultimately, we thought the best way to do that was to create a space of vulnerability,” May says, adding that it was even more powerful with the duchess in the room. “With Stephanie and Meghan, we talked about what it really means to grow up in this digital age.”
“We did an activity where we talked through a bunch of scenarios, and Meghan talked about being one of the most bullied people in the world,” May tells Vanity Fair. “We had girls wave these little emoji signs and talk about how each one of these scenarios would have impacted them emotionally.”
Girls Inc. is a network of 75 organizations across the US and Canada, which reaches about 114,000 girls annually with their programming and leadership training.

The Guardian has uncovered evidence showing how Israel has relaunched a controversial entity as part of a broader public relations campaign to target US college campuses and redefine antisemitism in US law. Seconds after a smoke alarm subsided during the hearing, Chikli assured the lawmakers that there was new money in the budget for a pushback campaign, which was separate from more traditional public relations and paid advertising content produced by the government. It included 80 programs already under way for advocacy efforts “to be done in the ‘Concert’ way”, he said. The “Concert” remark referred to a sprawling relaunch of a controversial Israeli government program initially known as Kela Shlomo, designed to carry out what Israel called “mass consciousness activities” targeted largely at the US and Europe. Concert, now known as Voices of Israel, previously worked with groups spearheading a campaign to pass so-called “anti-BDS” state laws that penalize Americans for engaging in boycotts or other non-violent protests of Israel. Its latest incarnation is part of a hardline and sometimes covert operation by the Israeli government to strike back at student protests, human rights organizations and other voices of dissent. Voices’ latest activities were conducted through non-profits and other entities that often do not disclose donor information. From October through May, Chikli has overseen at least 32m shekels, or about $8.6m, spent on government advocacy to reframe the public debate.
[...]
Haaretz and the New York Times recently revealed that Chikli’s ministry had tapped a public relations firm to secretly pressure American lawmakers. The firm used hundreds of fake accounts posting pro-Israel or anti-Muslim content on X (formerly Twitter), Facebook and Instagram. (The diaspora affairs ministry denied involvement in the campaign, which reportedly provided about $2m to an Israeli firm for the social media posts.) But that effort is only one of many such campaigns coordinated by the ministry, which has received limited news coverage. The ministry of diaspora affairs and its partners compile weekly reports based on tips from pro-Israel US student groups, some of which receive funding from Israeli government sources. For example, Hillel International, a co-founder of the Israel on Campus Coalition network and one of the largest Jewish campus groups in the world, has reported financial and strategic support from Mosaic United, a public benefit corporation backed by Chikli’s ministry. The longstanding partnership is now being utilized to shape the political debate over Israel’s war. In February, Hillel’s chief executive, Adam Lehman, appeared before the Knesset to discuss the strategic partnership with Mosaic and the ministry of diaspora affairs, which he said had already produced results.
