[ A Southeast African cheetah, part of the translocation project, is held inside a transport cage in Otjiwarongo, Namibia. ]
"Indian officials have revealed the cause of death after a seventh fatality in the country’s project to reintroduce cheetahs to South Asia, decades after they went extinct in the wild. The death of adult male Tejas was caused by “traumatic shock” triggered by injuries from a violent interaction with a female cheetah also present in the same enclosure, officials have said. They said the animal was already ailing and weak. “The cheetah suffered a traumatic shock and died shortly after the female inflicted injuries on his neck, which were found to be superficial and not deep enough to cause his death,” principal chief conservator of forests JS Chouhan told The Independent. The injury is not the standalone reason because Tejas, weighing 43 kgs at the time of autopsy, was a compromised cheetah. It was found that his lungs, heart, spleen, and kidney were not normal during the autopsy on Wednesday, the forest official said. “There was accumulation of chicken fat and coagulated blood was also found in the aorta and auricle of his heart. His kidney appeared pulpy and emphysema and white coloured nodules were found in spleen,” he added."

"Tejas is the seventh cheetah India has lost since the start of an ambitious translocation project that aims to revive the wildcat’s population in South Asia, 70 years after it went extinct. He was brought to India in February this year. Four of the original 20 cheetahs have now died, and another three cubs born to one of the adult females did not survive."
- Excerpts from "Seventh Indian cheetah died of ‘traumatic shock’ after fight with female, post mortem shows" by Arpan Rai.

listening to big joel's dcom video & idk why it's so impossible for 99% of ppl ive seen doing cheetah girls franchise reviews to not call tcg speech 'gibberish' ... so little of that language was invented by deborah gregory; most of it is just AAVE and old hip hop slang if you actually pay attention to what the characters are saying
#i might reattempt my cheetah girls project now that im better at doing book analysis bc of school#bc the misunderstanding of their speech over the years is mainly what has made me wanna do a video or essay on the series lol

#89 Shimmer
Book name: Bravelands Author: Erin Hunter
Oh Shimmer, if only you didn't get fridged. I honestly quite liked her as a character up until that point.
Decided to make her a king cheetah because the books describe her spots to be particularly dark and distinct. She's never explicitly stated to be a king, but I like the idea because it matches that description pretty well.

think the "kreer"/"rathbone"/"tzun" master plaguing the 19X0s in foundation paradox is a bi-generation, possibly a sort of pseudo-hatchling resulting from the tzun nanogenes interacting with regenerative biology
#as for why anthony ainley regenerated into keon alexander (no i'll never stop saying that) without time lord mitosis?#the nanogenes hadn't 'matured' yet. they didn't have enough of a handle on a time lord to do it.#they were dealing with time lord/trakenite/cheetah hybrid biodata until that point.#maybe bi-generation is what inspired the hatchling project.#and maybe they got that idea from the master when they realized it wasn't just the War messing with their timeline and they did split off.#foundation paradox#the master#faction paradox#doctor who#doctor who expanded universe#virgin new adventures#doctor who new adventures#tzun master#first frontier

Real question tho. since they are editing the genes with compatible dire wolf pieces, and it at least seems like they intend to set up a breeding program for their creations, could these things end up being somewhat like a direwolf subspecies if the gray wolf genes are eventually filtered out as much as possible? Or would they wind up being a unique species of their own?
I guess... at what point does something change enough to clearly define it is no longer part of the parent species it originated from?
Furthermore when I was watching their video on how they did it, seemed like they only had 2 viable direwolf specimens to extract any DNA from, is that even enough diversity to propagate the species? Does it still count as inbreeding when the genes are modified but from the same source on one side?
also, my 2 cents about this in general... I don't see it as a scam as much as a marketing tactic. getting a good public image like this and hyping people up is how they're gonna attract tons of investors to fund more research and facilities. Sure, a bit of john hammond, but less for stupid reasons - for now, anyway. that could easily change. if they stick to their goals, it could potentially lead to actual de-extinction of some (likely much more recent) species or significantly help boost endangered ones. if they do it right. but they 1000000% need some big time investors to realize this "dream" of theirs. this is essentially like an early release alpha demo game. showing proof of concept. giving the public something that will keep them talking and relevant. showing the people with fat wallets they can deliver on a product. appealing to the scientists across the genetics field or attracting new ones fresh out of graduating to come lend their skills and knowledge. and even if they don't reach those goals, this work would undoubtedly further the field of genetics and can serve as a research hotbed for endangered and threatened species. that's being optimistic of course. but the potential is there. idk, just came off way more markety imo. is it actually dire wolf? no, but they aren't hiding that it isn't either. it's like when rayon fabric is marketed as bamboo. it's not a secret how rayon is made if you just take 20 seconds to look into it, but the public doesn't really care.
It's hilarious to me how Colossal Biosciences wants to be movie-version John Hammond but are 100% book-version John Hammond. In the Jurassic Park novel, it's very clear: John Hammond is a con artist who gives people an illusion, not the truth. He knew from the beginning that what he was making weren't dinosaurs, but he didn't care because he had a story to sell. He wasn't just "filling in gaps" with the frog dna, his scientists were basically making things up from whole cloth and he had no pretence about it- but he also knew what the public wanted to believe.
Case in point: https://time.com/7274542/colossal-dire-wolf/
These are not dire wolves. These are GMO gray wolves. Dire wolves aren't even in the same genus as gray wolves, and we know this from genetics.
What Colossal is doing is scamming the public. They want you to believe that they can pull off miracles. They can't. It's the flea circus where everything is mechanised, but because you want to believe, you "see" the fleas. They might be good at genetic modification and they might be good at hyping themselves up, but they haven't de-extincted the dire wolf. They didn't activate mammoth genes in a mouse. They are lying to you and they're going to keep doing it. Don't believe the hype.
#overall i still think it's pretty damn cool#and frankly a clever as hell move from a marketing standpoint#also listen there is never going to be a cloning facility that can work miracles from day 1#not in this stupid capitalistic world#and previously it's been pretty limited to small research projects or like#the companies that strictly clone cats and dogs#and then a handful of like. antibody and pharma shit#so yeah something of this scale they're absolutely gonna have to hype the shit out of it#do i think they're gonna bring back the fuckin mammoth and dodo bird? lmao fuck no#but thylacine is a very real possibility#and if they can get this artificial womb developed it'll open up some cool shit#or like. if they can use DNA from deceased cheetahs it could help increase their dwindling gene pool#all we can really do is wait and see what happens#i like to be hopeful tho

Finished Part 1 of Ref-Sheet for one of my oldest characters Katja. info dump belowww✨
Btw I’d love to know what you think of her design ✨ I personally Im in love with it 🤧✨
Katja is the main character for one of my personal projects Guds Krugen. She starts as hopeful and bright little thing, but turns out to be extremely judgmental, uptight, and isolated.
Daughter of Queen Audra Vinterholm of Ishavet, and King Ukko Stormgaard of Aurorin; Her parents defied certain rules indeed, as Ukko was never meant to leave Aurorin, his duty was to be guard of the King Aleksi, his former best friend. He gains the title of King after escaping to Ishavet with his lover, Audra. The Gods didn’t punish them however although it’s not quite certain as Ukko disappeared before Katja’s birth.
Ukko being of Stormgaard was bestowed a gift by Souwlo, God of Lightning and Storms. Audra, former heir and now ruler of Ishavet, was bestowed a gift as per tradition, by Ishav, God of Winter and Ice.
Katja unlike most characters, has been gifted by two Gods, this weights on her shoulders as she can’t and doesn’t want to let either of them down. However things get heavier, during her birth a High Priestess named Airi-Salla received a prophecy in which Katja was envisioned to bring harmony to all the kingdoms or lead them to destruction.
Even if not raised with this being engraved in her mind, once she turns of age to go to Hjortesjel’s Heir Camp thing (I’m still coming up with a name for it) She is told of such prophecy. Although being still too young, and naive, she doesn’t think of this as extremely important.
During her stay at Hjortesjel she meets old friends, new ones and makes enemies. Certain events remind her of the prophecy and while she learns to be a good ruler and leader, she also learns of how complicated life is, and perhaps of how important and crucial it is for her to become a good leader.
There’s a lot more, but I ain’t gonna spoil anything >< nor blab so much, I write a lot jejeje right now I’m working on getting all the information about Elendrion ( the land where all this happens) the kingdoms, the houses, the characters, the gods ect ect ect
Hope ya liked the reading and stay tuned for more :> btw as you might know if you follow me this is not the only personal project I’m working on, I’m also working on Madshill another very different story 0-0 this is hard but I love it
Im also planning to keep building my ko-if page, and putting on commissions on there :0, if anyone would be interested in this let me know in the comments and perhaps if you have any tips or suggestions for Ko-fi page I’m very glad to listen 🖤
May you all have a wonderful week, and may abundance find you all effortlessly 🖤

Spookie Jar #12: Cheetah
Started: July 1, 2024
Finished: July 4, 2024
Spotted hyenas are my current favorite animal, but I was a total cheetah-stan when I was little. (Don't get me wrong, though, they're still lovely creatures.)
One of my younger cousins really likes them, so I made this for his birthday!
(This was also kinda inspired by Lindsay Nikole, since cheetahs are her favorites, too. Please go check out her content; she's as funny and informative as Casual Georaphic, if not even more so.)
