valdangelo: i'm in my friend's gaming room, and they just pulled out a huge box of snacks i'm not allowed to have at home. super smash bros is cued up on the wii. it's 2013, and nothing bad has happened yet.
jercy: i'm sitting in a field at my old high school, the air cool and refreshing as i crack open a new queer romance i requested the library to order. some people are playing football in the distance, though i couldn't tell you who's winning or what's going on. it's a spirit week day, and i'm allowed to wear a hat.
lukercy: i'm in the club when i shouldn't be. i have plans the next day, though maybe i should forget about them. there's someone speaking to me, their voice warm and low. i don't know their name and don't care to know. i can only look at their lips.
valgrace: i'm with an old boyfriend in his shoebox apartment, talking for hours until we realize it's way past the time i should be home. it doesn't matter. his bed is warm and time stands still as i am, for a fleeting moment, understood.

x readers: i am in an auditorium, putting on a play like i used to as a kid. much like the stress dreams, i have over forty lines and didn't crack open the script. i manage, and i look out, and i wait. the lights don't blind me this time. i can see everyone in the audience. they wear masks and clap politely. the sound is muffled, fading into silence like tv static. their eyes are expectant once more.

In my twisted brain Caine has FULL access to the World Wide Web, so ABSOLUTELY he is spyware. REALLY BIG SPYWARE.
Just like…imagine. Imagine Caine is so fucking BEEFED as an ai that he has no idea that bringing 4.7TB of python scripts wherever he goes is odd somehow, or beyond the specs of normal services, and just. Decimates any service he comes in contact with. Which is why he can’t do human research.
Like he steps one foot into a Christian Minecraft server and some kids ipad fucking explodes. He tried to access Roblox and there was a server fire. He’s just slowly annihilating all the shitty top-of-results scam online multiplayers; the world of tadc is undergoing a baffling series of cyber attacks on shitty MMOS/spam websites, and twitter has had “spamsniper2000” as a trending tag for 2 months.

Why the Time Bandits remake makes me feel an angry despair (1)
I announced it before: I am mounting my high horses for this matter.
"Time Bandits" is a children fantasy movie by Terry Gilliam, released in 1981. It is one of those "almost Monty-Python-movies" thanks to two other Monty Python actors joining Gilliam's project: John Cleese, playing Robin Hood, and Michael Palin playing a poor guy who keeps being reincarnated throughout history and always has the worst love life. This movie is part of the "Imagination Trilogy" of Gilliam, meant to represent the "childhood imagination" - alongside the dark movie "Brazil", for "adult imagination", and Gilliam's adaptation of the Adventures of the Baron Münchausen, for "old man imagination".
I love Time Bandits. It isn't just that I love, I adore it. This was one of my favorite movies as a kid, and it was such a huge part of my childhood it literaly shaped my imagination in many, many ways. It is still to this day one of my favorite movies, with such a unique feeling I couldn't find anywhere else but in other Gilliam-related or Python-related movies.
It is one of these rare things where I can say I am really a huge fan. I bought the Criterion Collection DVD, I bought the official script-book, I went online to find alternate versions of the scripts which contained deleted scenes NOT in the official script-book...
I even chose this movie as the subject of my presentation for my high school diploma, doing a full analysis of it that gave me a very good grade. I am really in love with this piece.

NOW if you haven't heard about it, a trailer was released for an Apple + series of (10 episodes I think?). "2024 Time Bandits". A remake by Taika Waititi (among others but he is the main guy behind this).

I had heard of this project a long time ago because Waititi's desire to do something Time Bandits related has been around since his glory days with "What we do in the shadows". He kept speaking about how much he loved Time Bandits and how he wanted to do something related to it.
... I never realized he meant doing a remake a it. Time Bandits has so much potential for sequels or prequels or alternate takes or whatever cinematic terminology you have.
Now, that being said, I don't mind a remake. Waititi has proven to have good ideas and cool projects, and he seemed to really be a fan of the original - plus it was a project he had been dragging for quite some times, so I had still some interests and hopes...
... and then the trailer came out. And I saw it. And...

... You know it will be the first time in my life I will turn into one of those angry Internet ranters mad about a remake of their favorite thing. Never in my life before I was involved on a personal level with disliking a remake but OH BOY here I am.
There are so many things BAD with this trailer. Not wrong. BAD. I don't dislike all about the trailer... But I dislike most of it, and I don't just "dislike" it as in "Oh yeah, they could have done better", no, we are talking about a "I DESPISE this".
Honestly it looks like the people behind this series considered everything that made Time Bandits unique and powerful and cool and weird... and decided to remove it to make it bland, flat and... a sort of flavorless, mass-marketable Americanized modern vaguely super-hero like movie (did Waititi's experience on the Thor movies screwed his imagination THAT badly?)
I literaly do not understand how someone so hellbent and so dedicated to Time Bandits could create a product that looks like was designed by people who only vaguely heard of the original movie's plot. Because the people who made this series clearly did NOT understood the heart, soul or goal or the movie.
I heard something about Terry Gilliam being hired as an executive producer, coming on the set for a planned three months, but leaving abruptly after only three days and never returning. And people concluded that it was because he was pissed off. Seeing the trailer, I am inclined to believe he was.

okay haunt reminded me of this so storytime ig
picture this: its freshman year, at a pretty populated high school in the south. I, a little gay baby at the time who didn't realize I was a boy yet had just moved there from overseas (the Middle East to be exact)
As one does when you're still figuring yourself out, I buried myself in a security blanket of clothes, specifically, a black trenchcoat I owned. I wore this because I liked how it looked, and I wished I was JD from Heathers the musical. i also dyed the ends of my hair purple, because, of course I did
I had a pet snake at the time! a sweet baby ball python named Spark because he was a fire spark morph! he was my everything. I had wanted a pet snake for years at that point, ever since I saw one at the zoo on my birthday
so, I told my few other gay friends at school about my pet snake. I wished I could show him to them properly, I lamented, but me and my family weren't fully moved in, and they also sucked, so I didn't want to invite anyone over.
then came my brillient idea. I should bring him to school! No one else would notice, he's just a small baby, he can fit in my bag easy peasy. He's a snake, so there's not too much worry about how hed use the bathroom or eat- he only ate once a week.
so, I brought him to school, in a little black drawstring bag. I managed to make it to my first class before someone else found out.
"is that a snake??"
"... yeah but you gotta calm down. he cant hurt you, see! he's small and friendly!"
unsurprisingly this was not very effective. They immediately began to freak out, at which point, I start getting nervous. I had seen people online bring their pets to school just fine before, why was this an issue? its not like he was hurting anyone or being disruptive, it was just the Other Kids that couldn't handle him being around.
sadly, they quickly told my teacher and called my mom to pick up that little animal. So. didn't go great
side note on this story. My boyfriend, who I got together with much later after all this, went to the same high school as me. He later told me about a kid who wore a black trenchcoat and brought a snake to school. I was like oh yeah haha, that was me! silly child
he was like yeah.. we called you trenchcoat mafia..
