The Evermore Grimoire: Greek Mythology
Hera (Ἥρα meaning ‘Juno’) was the goddess of marriage, women, the sky and stars, as well as the queen of the Olympian Gods in Greek mythology. She was bold, clever, and powerful, yet it was for her less flattering characteristics that she was best known for. Above all else, Hera was a jealous and vengeful goddess who struggled with her husband Zeus (king of the gods) and his many infidelities both mortal and divine that often left her in a rage. In the end, her constant anger and consistent inability to exact the revenge she sought spoke powerfully to the place and perception of women in ancient Greece. The cow and the peacock were also known to be sacred to Hera. According to one myth, Zeus once fell in love with Io, a priestess of Hera. In a fit of jealousy, Hera demanded that her husband bring her the young girl, and when he brought her, Hera immediately transformed Io into a cow. She then gave her to her servant Argos, an all-seeing monster who had a hundred eyes all over his body. Argos' job would be to guard Io. Zeus though, took pity on Io and wanted to help her. He summoned Hermes (god of trade) and ordered him to kill Argos. Hermes approached the monster and began to play the flute in order to hypnotise it. Soon the monster fell into a deep sleep and Hermes took a stone and destroyed it. However, Hera knew of the plan and had already removed the eyes from Argos beforehand. Thus, after Argos' death, Hera transferred all of his eyes to the tail of a peacock to thank and honour her faithful servant.

Hera, Queen Goddess, Mother.
She is completed!✨🌟💛🌟✨
she’s not even my favorite character, but she was my favorite one to draw and color this week. I think it’s because I don’t really use a lot of yellow in my work. It’s such a happy color.

The beauty of Hera
"If the image of the most beautiful woman in the ancient world had its place in a sanctuary of Hera - and not of Aphrodite - it is because there was a privileged relationship between the goddess of marriage and beauty. This relationship was perfectly felt by most of the ancient authors. Already Homer who calls it λευκώλενος (“with white arms”) mentions that it was she who gave beauty and reason to the daughters of Pandareos while Aphrodite provided them with food (Od., XX, 70)
For the author of the Homeric hymn, the goddess had an unequaled beauty (ὑπείροχον εἶδος: Hymn to Hera, v. 2) which “much surpassed the others goddesses” (Hymn to Aphrodite, v. 41), and Pindar (Pyth., 11,70) to describe Hera uses the superlative: ὑπείροχώτατη (“superior to others”). Unlike Aphrodite, the wife of Zeus possesses both physical charms and moral qualities."

Greek Goddess Legacy Challenge: Generation #3: Hera
Tumblr media
Ready for her close-up: I present to you Hera, goddess of marriage and birth. And not only that, Hera has the privilege to call herself the Queen of the Heavens, Queen of the Gods!
I have yet to make the other sheets, so this is a little preview. When I finish them, I will post:
Hera's children World Preparation Worldfillers (if you want to have some myth-accurate lovers for Zeus :))
Just found out about this challenge? Don't worry! You can get started here, with generation 1.
The Greek Goddesses Challenge by LJJ-Sims is a challenge based on the ancient mythical creatures and stories from Greece. I fell in love with Greek mythology in high school and have not let that love go since. In this challenge you will follow 10 deities in their journey through life. Every goddess has a different take on and goal in life. Special about this challenge?  All your kids have little challenges of their own, not only your heir. These challenges are optional, so if you feel like these are too much or just too restricting for you: by all means let them go. I also have sheets for characters that you can make before you start each generation. This gives your challenge a lot more personality and makes it frankly easier and more fun!
A little disclaimer: because I made these gods and goddesses into a legacy challenge, the relationships in the myths don’t exactly match the relationship in this challenge. There is a lot of keep it in the family in mythology, to put it lightly. And apart from the fact that you can’t do that in the Sims, I don’t really like that part. So I didn’t include it, thus the inconsistency. An example: Ares is now Hera’s stepfather instead of her son, which she conceived with her brother  and husband Zeus. This inconsistency can also be found in the stories. It’s just based on and not copied exactly, as Sims live lives that are a lot shorter than those of immortal gods. And it takes a way from the creativity if we just copy the myths. Even if we wanted to do that, it’s quite hard, as every myths has its fair share of variations and some are just completely different stories.
I use the MCCC-mod to alter the length of life states. You can find the days-years ratio here: the boring stuff.
The next generation will be Demeter. Her character and challenge will be posted soon (still a work in progress)
Follow my blog for more updates and information:
And then, without further ado: This generations Goddess: Hera! Have fun!
