current boyfriend — the hughes
an —this trend is soo funny i couldn’t help myself
masterlist

QUINN
your phone is propped up low on the kitchen counter, angled perfectly to catch the shot. the comments have been relentless — please do the current boyfriend trend with quinn, he’s gonna be so confused lol, we need his reaction.
you didn’t want to mess with him like this. not him. but the opportunity was perfect.
he’s still wearing the hoodie he threw on after his shower, sleeves pushed up, focused and gentle as he plates your dinner. the smell of garlic, lemon, and parmesan fills the room. he’s been in the kitchen for almost an hour, soft music playing, asking you to stay out until it’s done.
now, he sets the plate down in front of you with a proud, shy smile and leans down to press a kiss to your cheek.
“here you go, baby.”
you smile sweetly and pick up your phone as the plate is placed infront of you.
“look what my current boyfriend made me,” you say casually to the camera.
his body freezes behind you.
“…current?” he repeats.
you keep the bit going, biting into your pasta like you didn’t just cause minor heartbreak. “yeah. he’s so talented, huh?”
quinn shifts beside you, arms crossing lightly over his chest. “what do you mean current? like… is there an expiration date i don’t know about?”
you nod solemnly, playing it all the way through. “i mean… things happen. people change. contracts expire.”
he squints. “contracts? i didn’t sign anything.”
“well,” you hum, twirling your fork in the pasta, “this relationship has about three weeks left on it. depends on your performance review.”
he just stares at you now. silent. betrayed. lips parted in disbelief. “are you actually serious right now?”
you finally crack a smile. “no, i’m not serious,” you laugh. “you should see your face.”
he doesn’t laugh back. he stays exactly where he is, hovering over your shoulder, looking completely heartbroken but trying to act like he’s not.
you set your fork down immediately. “quinn…”
he doesn’t respond, just kind of leans there. still in the same spot, eyes down, his arms still folded but looser now.
you turn in your chair and reach up to grab his hoodie gently, pulling him closer. he lets you. doesn’t even resist, just sighs and wraps his arms around your shoulders when you hug him, chin resting near your temple.
“i’m sorry,” you whisper. “it was a trend. everyone begged me to do it.”
“you’re lucky i love you,” he mumbles, still not pulling back.
“you do love me,” you smile, hugging him tighter. “so much that you made me pasta and suffered emotional damage.”
he laughs into your hair, the sound muffled and soft. “never trusting your tiktoks again.”
you smile into his chest. “that’s fair.”

JACK
you know exactly what you’re doing.
jack’s sprawled out on the couch in sweats and a devils hoodie, hair messy from his post-practice shower, arm draped behind your shoulders like he owns the place. he’s barely paying attention, scrolling aimlessly on his phone with the tv playing some random series you’re both half-watching.
you quietly flip your phone camera on, start recording, and glance up at him.
“i’m here with my current boyfriend,” you say into the mic, voice light, eyes innocent.
there’s a beat.
jack doesn’t even turn his head. just freezes. then lowers his phone slowly.
“wait.” he squints. “what the hell did you just say?”
you suppress a grin. “what? i said i’m here with my current boyfriend.”
he snatches your phone mid-recording and pauses the tiktok, staring at you like you just told him you were leaving the country tomorrow with a stranger.
“current boyfriend?” he repeats, louder this time. “why would you say current like that?”
“jack…”
“no, no, no. what is that supposed to mean?” he’s full-on sitting up now, eyebrows high, hands gesturing like you just ruined his entire peace. “current implies there’s gonna be a next. and there isn’t a next. do you understand me?”
you blink, biting the inside of your cheek. “it’s a tiktok trend.”
he scoffs. “i don’t care if it’s a government-issued announcement. don’t put that into the universe.”
you start laughing, but he’s not done. now he’s up on his knees, pointing at you like he’s giving a lecture.
“let me make one thing very clear,” he says, deadly serious. “if i die—if i die—you are going to be alone forever.”
“jack—”
“no, don’t ‘jack’ me. alone. forever. end of discussion.”
you’re doubled over now, laughing into the couch pillow.
“and if you do get another boyfriend?” he leans in closer, wild-eyed. “i’ll haunt both of you. your dreams, your breakfast, your netflix queue. every time he kisses you, the lights will flicker.”
“oh my god—”
“and if he tries to make you dinner?” jack snorts. “the stove’s getting possessed.”
you finally pull the phone back, still breathless, still grinning, and stop the recording for real. he flops back against the couch dramatically, arms crossed, muttering something about “current boyfriend, my ass.”
you crawl over into his lap and press a kiss to his jaw. “you’re my only boyfriend.”
“forever?” he mumbles, eyes still narrowed.
“forever.”
he nods slowly. “good. because i’m serious. the haunting thing? that’s not a threat. it’s a promise.”

LUKE
you’re lounging on the couch in luke’s hoodie, his legs stretched across your lap as he scrolls on his phone. it’s late, the apartment is dim, and your tiktok is already recording when you say it:
“here with my current boyfriend.”
he doesn’t even look up right away. just blinks at his phone, takes a sip of water, then casually says, “that’s funny. i’m here with my current girlfriend, too.”
your head snaps toward him.
“what?”
he finally meets your eyes, totally unfazed. “yeah. she’s great. cool vibes. might keep her for a little.”
you stare at him. “luke.”
he shrugs. “depends on how this week goes.”
your jaw drops. he’s joking. you know he’s joking. but he’s also not blinking, and now you’re staring at him, heart skipping, eyes narrowing.
he keeps going. “and if it doesn’t work out, i already downloaded hinge.”
“luke trevor hughes!” you gasp, shoving his leg off you as you stand up. “you’re actually unbelievable—i’m breaking up with you.”
“that’s not my middle name” he replies nonchalantly. still not giving into her antics
he watches you stomp toward the hallway, one arm crossed lazily behind his head, the other still holding his phone. “oh no,” he says dryly. “please don’t leave me.”
you’re already halfway to the bedroom when he suddenly drops his phone, stands, and catches you around the waist with a quick, easy pull.
“nope,” he says, spinning you around and pulling you back into his chest like it’s nothing. “get back here.”
“let go of me,” you mumble, still pouting, trying to fight a smile.
“never,” he grins, peppering kisses across your cheek. “not letting my dramatic, jealous, adorable current girlfriend storm off in my hoodie.”
you groan. “stop calling me that.”
he laughs against your cheek. “why? you are my current girlfriend.”
“you’re such a menace. i hate you,” you mumble, arms folding as he holds you tight.
“yeah,” he smirks, resting his chin on your shoulder. “but i’m your menace.”
you roll your eyes, but your smile gives you away. he kisses the corner of your mouth, proud of himself.
“you’re going to have to make this up with a lot of cuddles and kisses” she comments with her face still riddled with annoyance.
“let’s start now” he nuzzles into her next before leading them back to the couch.

thinking about reader who gives a hell of a lot of hickeys during sex, especially on Quinn's inner thighs and his neck/chest...
there would be sooo many, and Quinn would be at the rink the next day getting changed for practice and all his teammates are just like "what?? the fuck???" and joking ab how Quinn has a vampire for a gf LMAO
anyways :)
warnings: lotsss of hickeys, cockwarming, quinn coming inside fem!reader (DAMN y'all tryna get PREGNANT or something??????), mentions of oral (f receiving), mentions of shower sex, implications that quinn and reader don't mind their sex life being a little public... pairing: quinn hughes x fem!reader request: duhhhh see up above? wc: 1099

You’ve been feeling extra needy lately. Quinn blames it on preseason starting so soon, indulging you with a little smile on his face. He knows that in just a few days, he’s going to have his first practice back with the team, and then things will kick into full gear. He won’t have all the time in the world to lay around with you, so in his own way, Quinn is treating himself by indulging you.
And it is a treat, because if he hadn’t indulged you, he wouldn’t have the weight of you on his lap. You wouldn’t be grinding against his growing cock in languorous motions as you suck a hickey onto his jaw. His hands wouldn’t be on your hips, helping guide your motions. It feels so right that Quinn can hardly imagine leaving you for a few hours– not when things like this are happening.
“Q,” you mumble into his neck, lathering a kiss over the red mark you just made.
“Hm?” Quinn replies, opening his eyes just enough to take you in when you pull away.
“Can I sit on your cock?” You ask, blissfully innocent.
Quinn almost dies of a heart attack then and there. It’s written all in your voice– all you want to do is sit on his cock, have him inside of you, keep him warm. You just want to be close, and who is Quinn to deny you?
“Yeah, baby,” Quinn agrees. “Just let me get out of these shorts, yeah?”
You nod and swing your leg around so you’re tucked into his side. As Quinn lifts his hips to discard his clothes and reveal his length, you lean into his chest and press a kiss over his heart. Tilting your head up a little more, you kiss over his neckline and take some of his skin into your mouth, biting softly. You leave another mark on his chest, to match the one on his jaw.
Once his cock is free from his clothes, Quinn wraps his hand around it and pumps himself slowly. It jerks in his hand when you move your mouth to the column of his neck, petting over his stomach. He makes a soft little noise as you suck.
You pull away and admire your handiwork, tilting your head and smiling at the bruise with hooded eyes. You clamber back onto Quinn’s lap, pulling your panties to the side, and sink down. Your eyes roll back as the bulbous head of his cock sinks into you, past your entrance and settling deep in your core.
Quinn lets out a long breath as you lower yourself, eyes trained on your face through his eyelashes. You’re above him, but when you’re finally seated again, your lips are just in front of Quinn’s. He can’t help but lean in and capture them, not when they’re looking so pink and plush from marking him up.
“You look pretty,” Quinn tells you, smiling like a dope.
“Mmm,” you tease, giggling a little. “You said the same thing when I had to pick you and your brothers up last week because you got too drunk.”
You reach up and trace a finger over Quinn’s nose, biting your lip to hold in a laugh when he nips at the digit and pulls your hips forward, rocking you a little bit. He fills you to the brim, pressing into you in a satisfying way that no other man has. Quinn’s it for you.
“You’re sweet,” you concede, leaning in to kiss Quinn again.
When you part, he breathes in deeply and leans his head back on the couch, still holding your hips tightly.
You reassume your earlier position, kissing down his neck and marking him until his skin is littered with little bruises of varying shades of red and purple. Some are sizeable, like the one on the side of his neck where his pulse raced under your tongue and you couldn’t help but dive in for more, desperate to feel him throbbing beneath you. Other hickeys are smaller, just a pinch of a mark, like the heart you artfully sucked onto his pec.
When you’re done, you start to rock back and forth on his cock, your hands pressing against his chest for leverage. Quinn’s eyes practically fly open, a wounded groan leaving him as he flexes his muscles involuntarily.
“I made you mine,” you tell Quinn in a low voice. “Now, you’ve got to make me yours.”
Quinn keens at that, wrapping an arm around your waist and pulling you close. His hips stutter up into you, finding an aborted rhythm because he doesn’t want to draw himself out of your heat. He needs to feel all of you, and needs for you to feel all of him. Quinn buries his face in your neck and your hands find his hair, cradling the strands and keeping him close to you.
Quinn’s other hand finds its way to your ass for leverage, grabbing the skin and kneading it with desperation. He’ll leave his own fingerprint-shaped bruises there from the force of it, and he’ll admire his marks in the shower later, when he convinces you to let him eat you out from behind.
He whimpers when his orgasm hits, filling you with his warmth until his cock is overstimulated and spent. You kiss him, soft and slow, swallowing the groans that leave his lips.
“You’re perfect,” Quinn praises, chest rising and falling in even breaths. He continues to stare up at you like he’s kneeling at an altar.
You smile down and push his hair out of his face, leaning in to pepper kisses over every inch of his face. He laughs and eventually pushes you away, pulling out and standing to grab a towel to clean you up.
You cuddle on the couch for a while after, legs thrown over Quinn’s lap and head tucked against his chest.
Three days later, when Quinn arrives to practice, the bruises still haven’t faded completely into his skin. He grins down at the little heart made of hickeys on his chest, catching his final glimpse of your marks before he pulls his pads on and prepares for practice.
“Jesus, fuck,” Petey says from the stall next to Quinn. “Is your girlfriend secretly a vampire?”
Quinn grins at him, impish. “Wouldn’t you like to know.” He sticks his tongue out at Petey like a bragging sibling, then turns back to his locker. He smiles to himself.
You’re getting your nails done right now, and he’ll have the marks on his back to show it tomorrow.

Protecting Boyfriend | Quinn Hughes

summary — During the Canucks home game, a man says some not-so-nice words to you because you're wearing a Hughes jersey. When Quinn finds out, he does everything he can to protect you and makes sure you get the pep talk you need to hear
pairing — quinn hughes x reader
words — 2165
warning — not-so-nice- words
A wide smile formed on your lips as you entered the Rogers Arena.
Today would be the game against the Coyotes that you've been looking forward to for the past week.
You can't wait to support your boyfriend Quinn and the rest of the team live in person, and then at home, in your own stadium.
You slowly walk down the stairs to your seat, from which you have a perfect view of the entire ice.
But from your seat you not only have a good view of the field, but also of the Canucks players who are seated not far from you.
That way, if your boyfriend wasn't on the field, you'd get a good look at number 43.
You can hardly wait for the stadium to fill up and the 1st period to begin.
In fact, it doesn't take too long before the stadium starts to fill up and various people fill the seats with their jerseys bearing the shirt numbers of their favorite players.
Today you are also wearing the blue Canucks jersey with Quinn's number on it, which you wear at every game you attend.
From the beginning, it was natural for you to show up at your games in his jersey and not to wear any expensive clothes to make your appearance at Quinn's games a kind of catwalk.
There were many wives or girlfriends of players who used the games to get themselves all dressed up and did half a shooting during the game to get likes and attention on Instagram or various other platforms.
But you've never been like this before. Supporting Quinn has always been your number one priority and that will never change.
"Hello," an older man in a Canucks jersey greets you as he sits down on the happy seat next to you.
"Hello," you reply in a friendly manner and give the man a friendly smile.
As your gaze begins to wander through the now full stadium and the noise level slowly rises, you feel a gaze on you.
Slowly, you turn your face in the direction of the man who had greeted you kindly just a few minutes ago.
Now there's a crinkled look on your face as he eyes you intently and begins to make you feel uncomfortable.
You've always been a little reserved around strangers, so the words that now leave your mouth surprise you.
"Is everything all right? Or is something wrong?"
The man begins to mumble something into his beard, which you can't understand due to the volume level.
"Excuse me? What did they say?" you ask as your heart starts to beat a little faster with nervousness.
You just want to watch the game in peace, without incident.
"I said that it's obvious that you're wearing a Hughes jersey of all things, like almost all the young women here."
"What makes you think that?"
The confusion was written all over your face. Of course you know that there are a lot of fans wearing the number 43 jersey, but there certainly weren't that many in the stadium just now.
"You young women now only pick players who look good. Most of you aren't even interested in the sport itself," he rants, causing you to look shocked.
You expected anything, but not this. What is wrong with this older man? And above all, what the hell did he have the nerve to say that to you?
Stunned, you start to shake your head and just as you've thought of the perfect answer, it gets loud and the teams enter the ice.
Probably better that way, because at least the man next to you was quiet and you could more or less enjoy the game.
Because you wouldn't let him ruin the day you've been looking forward to for a week.
—
The man had actually kept his mouth shut to you the whole game.
But when Quinn scored a goal and you, like several other fans, jumped up and cheered loudly, you heard other comments coming from his direction, but you couldn't hear them over the loud cheering and music.
Now the game is over, which the Canucks won 2-1.
A broad smile returns to your face, but it is immediately extinguished when the man next to you stands up and gives you an annoyed look.
"Well you fangirl? Did you even watch and understand the game? Or were you just undressing Hughes with your eyes?" His voice growls slightly, making you flinch and reflexively wrap your arms around your body.
This can't be true. Why can't the man just leave you alone and make his way home?
Even if you were just a fangirl who was only there because of Quinn, that wouldn't be his problem.
You just shake your head and leave your seat.
As you climb the stairs to get to the exit, you try not to let on too much how much the man has intimidated you and you're starting to panic.
It's all good, y/n. Just keep walking. You'll be with Quinn in a minute, you repeat the phrases over and over in your head as you leave the stadium, a light breeze blowing through your hair.
You breathe out deeply and close your eyes for a few seconds before opening them again and mingling with the crowd of fans to get to the back of the stadium.
There you will meet Quinn so that you can finally embrace him and congratulate him on his victory.
As you reach the back entrance, where a barrier has already been erected in front of the exit and one or two fans are already waiting to intercept their favorite player, you look around.
So as not to get in the way of any of the fans, you stand in the corner of the barrier so that everyone else has enough space. After all, you're not there to get autographs or photos, but to wait for your boyfriend.
But luck was not on your side. A few seconds later, the man you just met stands next to you and looks at you with an annoyed expression.
"Well, are you trying to get your hands on Hughes?" There is disgust in his voice. He speaks so quietly that only you can hear him.
Your heart begins to hammer faster against your ribs as your hands claw at the barrier and you try to stay calm.
"Stop it," you whisper on the verge of tears, which makes you angry with yourself for showing the man weakness.
But you can't do anything about it. The words and the way he treats you start to burn on your soul and reopen some old wounds.
You don't have an answer ready, but if you were honest with yourself, no perfect answer would shut the man up.
As the first players come out of the stadium and start signing autographs and taking photos with their fans, you stand on tiptoe to get a better look at when Quinn will finally arrive.
Quinn was never one of the first to leave the dressing room and then the stadium, so it would be a while before he arrived.
You would survive these few minutes - hopefully.
"Don't get your hopes up, sweetie. Hughes would never take you home," the man laughs as he steps closer to you.
"If they only knew..." You mumble, unaware that you've just spoken your thoughts out loud as you take a step to the side to put more distance between you.
"Excuse me?" the man hisses.
"I said, if they knew," you start and then gather all your courage for the next words that leave your mouth. "He's my boyfriend."
The man next to you starts to laugh out loud, attracting the attention not only of the other fans, but also of one or two of the players.
Confused, Dakota, Conor and Elias look in your direction. It took a few seconds for the three's eyes to grow wide as they recognize you and realize what's happening right in front of them.
"Hey, man. Do you want an autograph too?" Dakota asks as he approaches you and the man.
Dakota gives you a warm and gentle look, trying to make you realize that everything is going to be okay.
"Oh, I'd love to!" The man beams now and starts to engage Dakota in a conversation in which he is overly friendly.
Out of the corner of your eye, you see Elias run back into the stadium, followed shortly afterwards by Quinn.
Relief spreads through your body as you spot Quinn, who looks anything but pleased.
He looks angry.
Elias must have summarized everything for Quinn.
Several fans start yelling for Quinn, but he only has eyes for you.
He approaches you with quick steps, puts his hands on your hips and lifts you over the barrier.
"Are you okay, babe?" You ask him as you feel his tense muscles under the suit.
"I should ask you if you're okay, if anything. Why didn't you say anything?" Quinn looks down at you with a worried expression.
"I couldn't have said that during the game..." you begin, but are immediately interrupted by Quinn.
"But during the break. You could have texted me or come to the dressing room."
Quinn strokes your hair gently as he continues to look at you with concern.
His muscles relax slightly under your hand, which is still on his chest.
But you know that won't last long.
"I wouldn't take her home tonight!" A voice calls out, making you flinch.
Immediately, Quinn's muscles tense again as his face becomes angry again and his hands automatically clench into fists.
"Quinn..." You begin, but Quinn doesn't seem to hear you at all.
He gently pushes you over to Elias, who has become like a big brother to you over the last few years, when you've spent a lot of time with him and Quinn.
"Elias..." You mumble anxiously as you look up at the blond.
"Don't worry, y/n. He won't do anything stupid," Elias promises you, but you're not even sure if you can really believe his words.
From a safe distance, you watch Quinn more or less stumble the man together.
As you do, you pick up a few scraps of words, like "My girlfriend...She doesn't deserve this...Greatest person on earth...Our team doesn't need fans like you..."
It's not long before the man is taken away by security and Quinn returns to you.
Sniffling, you throw yourself into his strong arms, which he wraps tightly around you and presses you gently against him.
"I'm sorry," Quinn mumbles into your hair.
"It's not your fault," you sniffle as you look up at him and see a few tears in his eyes.
"But he hurt you and said things to your head that no one should ever hear. And if you get hurt, it hurts me here too."
Quinn reaches for your hand and places it where his heart is.
"Oh, Quinn..." you whisper as countless tears begin to roll down your cheeks.
He was incredibly sweet to you and now, after you had to hear those nasty and caustic words from the man, he made sure that you were moved to tears.
"If that happens again - which I hope it doesn't. Would I like you to come straight to me, Elias or another one of my colleagues, yes?"
Quinn looks you in the eye and then kisses your forehead.
"I promise," you murmur as you snuggle back into his arms and enjoy his strong, warm arms.
All the words that had hurt you just a moment ago disappeared as if by magic while you were in Quinn's arms and enjoying his closeness.
"I want you to forget all those words that man banged on your head, y/n. You know none of those words are true. I know it's hard to get these words out of my head, but I hope they help you. You're the best person I've ever met. You are the love of my life. You're always there for me, you make me feel better no matter how bad I'm feeling, you make me laugh and just your presence makes me feel good. I love you y/n and I could go on and on, but then we'd be here until tomorrow and I hope these words help you forget all the crap he's thrown at you."
His words caused a tear or two to roll down your cheeks. You were touched by how lovingly he treated you and had the perfect words to make you feel better.
And Quinn's words actually manage to put all the man's words out of your head once and for all.
Quinn was not only your friend, but also your protector.
Even though you do this side of him and you like how protective he is of you, you hope that something like today won't happen again.

Bruce has the money, so why the hell are there still people living on the streets!?
When he next woke up, he was alone. Well, mostly. The other patrons in the Bat Burger weren't there with him, but he could tell that Jason was somewhere near-ish-by.
He didn't open his eyes, nor did his unneeded breathing change past his resting rate. By sound alone, he knew three of the walls were cement, as well as the floor and ceiling. The last one was either bullet-proof glass or metal bars. The smell in the cell hinted at the former rather than the latter.
It was storming outside, he could tell, proving that he wasn't underground. All of the buildings in Gotham, minus skyscrapers and warehouses, were made of brick, so he probably wasn't in Gotham Proper anymore.
A buzzer went off somewhere down the hall and Danny suddenly had a horrible inkling as to where he and Jason were being kept.
"Danny?" Jason whispered from the cell immediately next to his own. "You there?"
He made just the right amount of noise when moving to alert Jason before he spoke. "Right here. You have an idea of where we are?"
A beat. "Yeah," he said quietly, almost nervous, "You?"
He nodded. "Yeah."
"We've been out for about three hours, I think." Jason's voice was still as quiet as he could make it while having Danny still be able to hear him. "I didn't manage to hit my panic button before it was frozen over, but three hours should be long enough for Alfred to realize something's wrong. The others'll-"
"No!" Danny growled, "We're getting out of here without the others' help."
"How do you plan to do that?" His voice wasn't condescending like he was half expecting. It was steady, still quiet, and patient.
He was waiting for him to propose a plan, Danny realized. "They really didn't tell you a thing about me, did they?"
Jason hummed. "Well, Talia said that you were to be treated like a civilian-"
Danny scoffed, "Yeah, well, I was never a civilian in the first place. I may be younger than Damian-"
"I'm sorry," he spluttered, "'Younger'?"
Danny ignored him, "-but I have just as much, if not more, fighting experience than him. Not to mention the superpowers!"
"The one's you got from dying," Jason reminded himself, "Right. So, what's the plan, ghost boy?"
Danny blinked. "'Plan'?"
"You do have a plan, right?" A beat. "Right?"
"Just follow my lead."
"You don't have a fucking plan?!"
"I what universe would I have a plan for this exact scenario or any like it? Who do you think I am, Batman?!"
"Fair," Jason conceded, "How are we gonna get out of here? It's Arkham fucking Asylum!"
Danny raised his eyebrow, fully aware that Jason couldn't see him. "You don't have the layout of this place memorized? I thought you guys locked people up in here all the time?"
"We send them here. B keeps us far away from the island itself."
"Hm," Danny shrugged, "Skill issue."
"Excuse me?"
Danny stood and started looking around his cell. Like he clocked, the wall to the hall was modified glass with no obvious weak points. The floor, ceiling, and three walls were all smooth cement, painted with some kind of frost-like gloss that made them cold to the touch. There was a single cot with a thread-bare blanket and no pillow. A single LED light in the middle of the ceiling lit up the box, and there was a vent in the far corner, bolted to the wall with so many screws it was ridiculous, and too small for probably even Damian to fit through.
"Then vents on the inner-most cells don't lead directly outside," he said to himself, "But I can hear the river." Louder, he said to Jason, "We're in the outer-most cell-block."
"How the hell do you- You have the layout of this place memorized?"
"Yep."
"Why?"
And that was the question, wasn't it? "Just in case I ever needed to break out." Or in.
Jason huffed and began pacing his cell. "I'm not gonna ask. I wanna know, but I'm not gonna ask."
Danny shrugged. Fine with him.
Jason cam back to the corner of their shared wall and the glass panes. "How do you plan to get out of here? The vents are too small."
"Well, how do your Rogues normally get out?"
"Depends on who we're talkin' about. Some blow up a few walls, some have their goons already working here, others pay off the guards. Take your pick."
Danny thought for a moment. "Unfortunately, none of those will work for us, though blowing up a few walls sounds like a lot of fun."
"Yeah, until someone has to clean up the mess." He could hear the smile in his voice.
"You want to do this the easy way or the long way?"
"There's an easy way?"
Danny let his intangibility wash over him and stuck his head through their shared wall. "Ghost, remember?"
Jason laughed. "And the long way?"
"Find out what your two Rogues are planning, wait for the others to come to save the day, and then escape on our own anyway."
Jason raised his eyebrow. "Which do you wanna do?"
"I kinda wanna explore this place."
"Secret third option?"
"Secret third option."

rotday
fem!reader and ultimate boyfriend! Quinn
still on for tonight?
You glanced down at the message on your phone and instantly groaned. You wanted to go out with him tonight, you really did. Only, you'd had the day from hell at work and you felt like you'd been hit by a truck.
Being a kindergarten teacher, it was inevitable that you would catch whatever bug was going around the classroom. This time, it just so happened to coincide with your period, and the only thing you wanted to do when you got home was to change into sweats and melt into the couch.
With a sigh, you began to type out your response. is it ok if we rescheduled?
You really hated doing that. You knew he only had so many free evenings.
It had been a few hours before you had a chance to check your phone again when you saw his response.
yeah everything ok?
You let out another sigh and smiled. How did you get so lucky to have someone so understanding in your life.
Everything's ok. It's just been a long day and I feel like shit. I don't think I' be a very fun date tonight.
This time, he only responded with a heart emoji.
You finished up the afternoon dismissal and then packed up your classroom before heading to your car where you sat for just a moment before hitting the ignition button. It was rare that you stopped thinking until you left the building and sometimes you just needed a minute of silence, not even Spotify or your most recent podcast was allowed to infiltrate those few moments of tranquility.
Fortunately it was a quick drive back to the condo you shared with your friend Ashley. Well, shared wasn't exactly the best way to describe your living arrangements; Ashley's dad bought her the luxury condo and you paid her a ridiculously small amount of rent each month for a bedroom. You quickly punched the code into the keypad and immediately went to your bedroom, already anticipating stripping off your work clothes and changing into something comfy. You had just swapped your underwire bra for a stretchy bralette when you heard Ashley calling out to you.
"What?" You poked your head out into the hallway. The open floor concept meant that you could hear each other from practically any point in the house.
"I said," Ashley called back, clearly from downstairs."Our boyfriend is here."
"Be right down!"
Pulling on a cami and then your favorite cardigan, you soon found yourself skipping down the steps.
"Quinny!"
"Hey you." He moved to embrace you, burying his face in the crook of your neck and breathing in your scent before taking a step back with a quizzical expression. "Our boyfriend?"
You smiled as you shook your head, Quinn now being privy to one of Ashley's inside jokes. "Ash has a bit of a crush on you."
"Well who wouldn't?" Ashley answered from the kitchen. "You're so boyfriend coded."
Quinn turned to you again but didn't need to put his question to words.
"She means you have a lot of characteristics that women look for in a partner." You leaned in for a quick kiss. "What are you doing here?"
He shrugged. 'Taking a gamble that you didn't want to go out because you didn't feel good, not that you didn't want to see me."
"I always want to see you," You smiled again as he continued to hold on to your waist. "I just feel like death."
"I brought some turkey and tomato sandwiches and chicken soup from the deli." He added quickly, "If you feel like eating."
Giving him another quick kiss, you stepped back. "You're too good to me. Wanna watch a movie first?"
"Whatever you want, babe." He gave you one of his little half smiles as you both made your way to the stairs.
You immediately felt a little pang of guilt. "I'm sorry I ruined our date night."
He raised an eyebrow as he kicked off his shoes and sat down on your bed. "Why do you think you ruined date night?"
"We're just here." You joined him on your bed, tucking yourself under his outstretched arm. "I know you always put so much thought into planning what we're going to do but we're just here tonight."
He let out a little laugh as he kissed your forehead. "You know the whole point of our date nights is to spend time together, right?"
"I mean, yes, but-"
Quinn cut you off. "Especially since you're dead set against moving in together."
"I'm not dead set against it." You softened when you realized he was teasing you. "I just want to wait until the school year is over. I can't imagine my life in two different places right now."
He gave you a wink as he continued on in a dreamy kind of voice. "We could get a dog, you know, as practice for kids."
"I really don't think your mother would enjoy the thought of grandkids before we get married." Now it was your turn to tease him. "And if I recall correctly, you haven't put a ring on it yet."
"We'll get engaged once you're willing to live with me." Quinn leaned in to give you another kiss. "Besides, I haven't found a ring I like yet."
That last part, his tone was different. He wasn't kidding around with you anymore, it was more earnest and contemplative, almost like an aside to himself. You decided not to address it as you reached for the remote and snuggled in closer.
You watched a few episodes of a British crime drama before Quinn's stomach began to growl.
"Ok, mister." You sat up and extended your hand for him. "Dinner time."
Quinn popped the soup in the microwave while you got out plates for your sandwiches. It wasn't necessarily the way you thought you'd be spending your early twenties. Granted, you did go out to some clubs but you found so much more enjoyment in the quiet domesticity of spending the night in with your boyfriend.
"We've got a pretty long roadie coming up." Quinn commented, almost absentmindedly.
You looked up at him to see if he was finished his thought. When he didn't add anything else, you nodded. "How long are we talking here?"
"'Bout a week. Little longer." He took another bite. "You gonna be ok?"
You let out a laugh. "What would you do if I said no?"
He shrugged. "I'd pack you away in my luggage. You'd make a better seat mate than Petey anyway."
You could only shake your head at that. "I'll be ok. But I can't wait until your season is over."
Now he smirked. "You actually want me to lose?"
"No," You shook your head again. "But I do like our summers at the lake house when you take some down time."
A wistful smile, albeit brief played on his lips. "Soon enough."
You caught yourself gazing back at him. "You staying tonight?"
"Of course." He stood and took your empty plate. "That is, unless you need some space."
With a shake of your head, you smiled again. "I need cuddles."
Quinn leaned in and placed a kiss on your forehead. "Anything for my girl."

pairing: best friend!luke hughes x reader
becca’s notes.. a short and sweet introduction to reader and luke’s friendship. if you saw the first version of this, no you didn’t as i realise i'd totally fucked myself over and made the framing of the fic SO much harder so !
📰 series masterlist masterlist ⋆˚࿔ likes + rbs appreciated

LUKE ISN’T exactly sure when the two of you had upgraded from ‘friend’ to ‘best friend’ status. all he knows is that, some time in the past few years, it had happened, and that he wouldn’t change it.
the two of you met back when luke had just started out at umich. a touch ganglier and a lot more awkward, it was hard not to feel endeared by the tall boy who had approached you at some random frat party, a sheepish ‘my friend thinks you’re cute!’ shouted at you over the music as his thumb jabbed over his shoulder.
it’s funny to think that your friendship was forged on a lie.
well, not necessarily a lie. more a… bending of the truth. see, luke’s friend hadn’t thought you were cute, because he wasn’t even actually luke’s friend at all. he was, in fact, just some random guy that luke had been convinced into wingmanning, his inhibitions lowered thanks to the amount of alcohol in the host’s jungle juice.
unsurprisingly, luke didn’t manage to score the poor guy a date that night, something he was reminded of two hours later when the man bumped into his shoulder abrasively, a sarcastic ‘nice one, man’ grumbled into his ear. luke would be insulted, if not for your surprised bark of laughter that was quickly, terribly stifled by your hand.
that moment seemed to solidify your newfound yet indestructible friendship, and you’d left that party with one shoe, the promise of an awful hangover come morning, and luke hughes’ number in your phone. ‘thing one’ and ‘thing two’, jack had quickly christened you, something you and luke had taken in your stride, even making it your halloween costume later that year.
though, it’s not always an easy ride, at least, not as far as luke is concerned, namely due to his aforementioned older brother. no matter how many times luke rolls his eyes, calls him medieval and primitive for his backwards ways of thinking - ‘big words, for him’, quinn had taunted once - jack is relentless.
nine times out of ten, even the mere mention of your name elicits a childish ‘ooh, y/n’ to slip from jack’s lips, cheeky grin only making his already annoying teasing more infuriating. if luke had a dollar every time he had to shut down some form of teasing about you and him, he’s sure that his nhl salary would pale in comparison to the sum he’d have in his bank account.
you and luke are just friends. underline it, write it in permanent marker, add five exclamation points afterwards if you really want to. point is, it’s a fact, an unwavering constant that manages to make the stress and unpredictability of his life just that touch more bearable.
so what if he can’t linger on the intricacies of your friendship for far too long lest his mouth turn slightly dry and the pattern of his hearts jumps irregularly?
and yeah, he thinks you’re pretty, but that means nothing. the man has eyes, for god’s sake, and he’s not an idiot. even his teammates agree with him, something that causes his jaw to tick any time he dwells on the fact, not that it’s relevant.
falling for your best friend is near laughable, honestly. it's a book trope, something you and luke have made fun of countless times over, even though he knows that deep down you harbour a secret fondness for the dynamic. it's a kitschy cliche for a reason.
the third hughes brother, a star defenseman, hell, he’ll take fucking snoopy hughes at this point. because luke is many things, but a goddamned cliche, he is not, and you can quote him on that.

for lando x hughes reader au: you take lando to the hughes bowl and he's sitting there completely clueless.
When I told Lando I was taking him to a hockey game, he was excited—until he realized he had absolutely no clue what was going on.
"Wait, so both your brothers are playing against each other?" he asked as we walked into the arena.
"Yep," I grinned. "Jack and Luke on the Devils, Quinn on the Canucks. It’s the Hughes bowl tonight."
As soon as we took our seats, Lando was already confused. “So, uh… what’s the goal here?” he asked, watching as the players skated around in warmups.
I laughed. “Score goals, babe.”
He rolled his eyes. “Yeah, I got that part. But, like, what are the rules? What’s offside? How many guys are on the ice at once?”
Oh boy. I had my work cut out for me.
“Okay,” I started, pointing toward the ice. “Each team has six players on the ice—five skaters and one goalie. The goal is to get the puck into the net. If you cross the blue line before the puck does, that’s offside.”
Lando nodded slowly, like he was trying to process everything. “Right, right… so it’s like track limits in F1?”
I blinked. “Uh… sure? But also no. I’ll explain as we go.”
The game started, and the crowd roared to life. I could see Jack and Luke out there, already chirping Quinn. Lando jumped when a big hit was thrown against the boards in front of us.
“Wait, they can just… do that?” he asked, wide-eyed.
“Yep. As long as it’s clean, they can hit each other all they want.”
Lando let out a low whistle. “F1 drivers would cry if we had to deal with that.”
I laughed, shaking my head. “Yeah, you guys are divas compared to hockey players.”
He shook his head, still baffled. "If I did that in F1, I’d be banned for life."
I laughed as I focused back on the game. Jack had the puck now, weaving his way through defenders, and I elbowed Lando excitedly. "Watch Jack, he's gonna—"
Before I could finish my sentence, Quinn stepped up and stole the puck cleanly, sending Jack stumbling slightly. Lando gasped like he just witnessed a crime.
"That was his own brother!"
"Yeah, well, sibling loyalty doesn’t exist on the ice," I grinned. "Quinn’s the enemy tonight."
Lando let out an exaggerated sigh, slumping back in his seat. "This sport is brutal."
I smirked, knowing he hadn’t seen anything yet.
Midway through the second period, Luke threw a massive hit on one of Quinn’s teammates, and Lando physically jumped in his seat. "Did he just—was that—what the hell?"
"Calm down, babe," I teased. "It's all part of the game."
"And nobody's getting arrested?" he asked, genuinely bewildered.
"Nope."
He ran a hand through his curls and shook his head. "This is insane."
The game continued with Lando throwing out more confused comments. "Why are they fighting?" "Why is that guy going into a tiny penalty box like he's in timeout?" "Wait, they just skate off for a line change? No pit stops?"
I was doing my best to keep up with his endless questions while also enjoying the game, but when Jack finally scored, I grabbed Lando’s arm and yanked him up with me as I cheered.
"Wait, was that Jack?!"
"YES!" I yelled.
Lando laughed at my excitement but still looked slightly overwhelmed by everything happening around him. "I feel like I need a rulebook and a therapist after this."
By the end of the game, the Devils won 4-2, and Jack and Luke had bragging rights over Quinn for the night. After the game, we’re waiting for my brothers when a reporter spots Lando and decides to interview him. The poor guy still looks overwhelmed.
"So, Lando, this was your first NHL game. What did you think?"
Lando exhales dramatically. "Honestly, I have no idea what just happened. I feel like I just watched a war on ice."
The reporter laughs. "Did you have a team you were cheering for?"
Lando glances at me before grinning. "Well, my girlfriend made it pretty clear I had to cheer for Jack and Luke, so I did. But Quinn was insane—I thought he was going to murder someone."
I shake my head as Lando continues rambling about how he still doesn’t understand how half the game is legal. He may be clueless about hockey, but at least now, he’s a fan.

hi!! similar to the one you wrote for nico, could i request a mid size/plus/curvy reader blurb with luke hughes please? whatever distinction you prefer. thank you! :)
Luke whose favourite thing at the end of a long day is to cuddle and press his face into your plush stomach while you run your hands through his hair. Big requests/full fic/big idea requests are closed at the moment but drabble and prompt requests are still open. Writing Masterlist
Luke is done. He's done. A shit late game has him beat to hell and back, ready to fall into bed and sleep for a century. His entire body hurts having taken a few more hits than normal, bruises from pucks, bruises from the boards littering his body like a gruesome dot to do or paint by numbers. He's so tired that all he wants to do is curl up with you in a cosy pile and cuddle while you play with his hair. He doesn't even care that he hasn't eaten in hours or that he should really ice some of his bruises.
You're already in bed reading your current book when he staggers in, your eyes lifting to watch him as he throws off his suit as quickly as possible until he's down to his boxers. You take in the array of bruises already forming across his skin, brow furrowing because he's more beat up than usual. Luke doesn't even bother getting changed in sweatpants, just flops onto the bed so hard you bounce slightly as the mattress shifts.
You're putting your bookmark between the pages and placing your book back in its spot on your bedside table, already ready for him as Luke crawls up your body until his face presses into your stomach with a groan.
"You okay, Lukey?"
"Tired..." He mumbles it into the soft plush of your stomach, his favourite spot to fall at the end of a long day. For years you felt self conscious about it, worried about the fact your body was larger than other girls, your stomach soft and rounded, but being with Luke? That had taken any self-consciousness about it away. Your stomach was soft and it was comfy and whether it was resting there at the end of a long day or kissing it or blowing a raspberry there when he felt like being silly, Luke had shown you that your tummy wasn't a problem. That all of you could be loved rather than just parts.
"Have you eaten yet?" Your fingers find their way into his hair, curls catching gently against your hands as your nails scratch over his scalp and the back of his neck.
"...no..." It's muttered into your stomach, his face planted there, a soft kiss being pressed afterwards even as he avoids looking at you. You're going to insist he eats, you always do. But he doesn't want to. All he wants is this. The softness of your stomach against his cheek, the rise and fall of your abdomen underneath him, the warmth of your body as his arms wrap around and underneath you. God, he loves this. Loves you. Loves how soft you are, how warm, how good you smell.
"Baby, you need to eat." Even as you say it you don't make a move to get up or disturb him, nails scratching the base of his neck as he groans into your stomach, sighing into you like he's in his favourite place. Because he is. This is home. This is comfort. You.
"No...just want this, just want to cuddle with you, please?" He knows he's acting like a baby, knows Jack and Quinn would make fun of him if they could see him but he really doesn't care.
"...only for a little bit, then you're eating, deal?"
"Deal." You know that it won't end up happening. It never does. He'll fall asleep on your stomach with your hands in his hair. You won't have the heart to wake him and will stay like that until you inevitably drift off to sleep as well and in the morning you'll tell him off for not eating dinner and he'll sheepishly smile at you.
Luke nuzzles further into you, arms wrapping tighter around you as he sighs into your belly and all you can do is smile, all you can do is acknowledge that ache in your chest. The ache that is purely love for him as your hand runs down his back, between his bare shoulders and back again, stopping to count each mole and beauty mark along the way.

Can you write like the smuttyist smut ever in life about Jack Hugh’s pleaseee

It was always you
Jack Hughes x Fem! reader
Summary- Jacks new girlfriend is a little overly jealous of reader. But then, turns out, reader has to break the news to Jack that she caught his girlfriend kissing another man.
Warnings- Smut, raw dawggin, creampie, mentions of jacks injury, cheating (don't do that), technically not public sex but very exposed.
Word count- 3.2k
Jack Hughes was injured.
I didn’t know whether to laugh or to feel bad, a little bit of both, I guess.
Jack was an asshole, everyone knew that. Especially me, I’d practically grown up with him. I never liked him, or course, but he was always there. Our mothers were inseparable, so I found myself at the lake house every spring break and summer since I was a kid.
Coming with that, was being stuck in the presence of Jack. I didn’t know what I did but all of his (many, many, many) girlfriends he’d bring to the lake house hated me. Every. Single. One. Maybe I was intimidating, or maybe they thought I was ugly. Who knows? They couldn’t be jealous because despite being in the same house as Jack, I spent my time bound at the hip with his older brother, Quinn.
The reaction I had to Jack’s injury replayed in my head. The smile on my lips when he goes head first into the boards perfectly explained the relationship we had. But the smile dropping when he didn’t stand up explained our parent’s relationship. I couldn’t sleep that night, nerves getting to me. Not for Jack, he has a hard head so I knew he’d be fine, but for his mom.
He’d gotten his surgery shortly after, Ellen assuring that everything was alright. I didn’t get this reassurance directly but through my mother. All was well, he was back to being an asshole, even more than usual without his hockey. Thus, all of the nervousness leaving as fast as it developed.
But as spring break rolled around, I dreaded the thought of my mom begging me to go to the lake house. I gave in Every. Damn. Time.
Which brought me here, slowly walking out of my front door. My two bags were over my shoulder as I dragged my feet across the pavement. I hear banging on the side of the car, my eyes look up.
“Hurry up, sunshine, we don’t got all day”
Jack fucking Hughes. I roll my eyes at his mean smile from the drivers seat. I fight the urge of flipping him off as I pass the window to put my bags in the trunk.
I flop down in the backseat, between my mother and Luke. I figured Quinn would be in the front seat but no, it was yet another unfamiliar girl. The drive was long, long, and even longer. When we arrived I was asleep on my mom’s shoulder. She shakes me off her shoulder to wake me. I sit up and rub my eyes. Once my hands drop my eyes catch Jack’s in the rearview mirror.
That’s weird.
Before I can say anything, Luke tosses me my bags and I get out of the car.
As pretty as i remember it. The lake house, I mean, the view had always been beautiful. I snapped out of my thoughts as I hear my name called and the second I look over, I’m wrapped up in arms and lifted off of my feet.
“Oh, y/n! I’ve missed you.”
This must be what heaven feels like- wait… no- hell. Definitely hell. No.. air- I’m let go.
“Jesus”
I rub my ribs as I’m sat down.
“Sorry”
A very smiley Quinn Hughes says from in front of me.
I haul myself inside and up to the room that was designated to me. This place was huge, everyone had their own room and there was still space for a quest room. I guess my family and I weren’t quite considered guests anymore. I’m greeted by the boys parents before I make it up the stairs.
Bored. Bored. Bored.
I change out of my sweats and into a more presentable outfit of a loose baby tee and some denim shorts. I braid my hair quickly and put sunglasses on the top of my head, full intention on convincing my mom to take photos for my instagram.
I take the last step off of the stairs, greeted with a scoff from the girl I didn’t even know the name of. I look her up and down before walking right past her. But not before I caught the eye of Jack behind her, his arms around her waist. I ignore it, walking outside to my mother.
My mom pushed me to stand on the dock, posing as she took photos, the golden glow of the setting sun shining against my skin. She has me sit down at the end, toes in the water as I look to the side. The side towards the house. The side towards the house that I could see an obviously pissed girl sitting next to Jack by the pool.
Weird…
I stand to take my phone back, interrupted by a heavy weight pushing against me and the next thing I knew, I was in the lake. I resurface to see my mom taking photos while giggling. I look to my side to see Quinn. I scoff playfully and splash him before hoisting myself back on the dock.
“You’re going to be the one doing my laundry”
I point down to my soaked outside and Quinn just laughs before following me back onto the dock. I thank my mom before taking my phone back and scurrying back inside.
I change quickly back into a comfortable outfit before returning outside. Quinn was stationed at the grill, Jack and what’s her face at the pool, and Luke in a deep conversation with our parents.
I sit down and open my phone, my eyes catching a notification.
“Quinn Hughes and his longtime best friend: Dating?”
I almost laugh as I click the notification. Amelia Blake. Huh? Oh. My eyes snap up from my phone, landing on Jacks girlfriend. I look back down at my phone. “Amelia Blake posted, two images attached.” I open the notification and my eyes widen at photos of Quinn hugging me earlier. No fucking way.
It is so on.
I stand to my feet, as I approach the pair, I realize she’s on a live video. Oh yes, yes, yes. Trevor must’ve rubbed off on Jack. So unfortunate.
“Hello everyone” she smiles “I’m at my amazing boyfriend’s lake house!” She tilts the phone towards Jack who forces a smile. Embarrassing. “I see rumors spreading off of the photos I’ve posted, and I’d just like to say-“
I cut her off before she can finish.
“Lying bitch”
And with a shove, she’s in the pool. Jacks eyes widen and he looks back at me. Something tells me he hadn’t seen the photos yet. I turn backwards as she reemerges. I don’t catch her words but I do catch that she is pissed. I walk back inside, sure that eyes were on me.
I don’t leave my room until Quinn knocks, telling me dinner was ready. I’m still mad, can’t deny that. I look up from my phone.
“You saw what she did, right? I didn’t start anything.”
He laughs and nods. Laughs? I didn’t find it funny. He shouldn’t either, I mean, just lowered his chances of getting a girlfriend.
“Don’t be pissed, our parents are on your side.”
“Oh”
And with that I follow him down to the dinner table which was already set. I sit between my mom and Ellen. Lucky me, Jack and Amelia were right across from me. Her once curled hair was now straight, her makeup melted off. Was anything real about this girl? She was pissed, livid, really. She was sitting in an oversized hoodie and shorts, jacks hoodie. Jacks New Jersey devils hoodie.
I take a bite of the food, if Quinn wasn’t a hockey player, I was sure he’d be a chef. I look up at Amelia.
“You’re sporting a team he’s not even playing for right now”
Ow, that’s what goes through my head when my leg is kicked under the table. My eyes narrow on an obviously guilty Luke as he looks away. But my gaze snaps back to Amelia.
“At least I’m dating someone who’s even capable of being successful.” She pauses “Well, at least I’m dating someone at all, you couldn’t even if you tried.”
My eyebrows raise, everyone was quiet.
“Really? Because you have all the fans thinking I’m dating a captain.”
Quinn covers his mouth, keeping composed instead of laughing. It would fuel the fire, so he held it in. Amelia scoffs and stands, storming off. I cross my arms and lean back, my eyes snapping to Jack. He was eating quietly, weird…
“Geez, Jack” his dad laughs, “where do you find these girls?”
“Sorry”
He mutters, eyes on me, before standing up himself and following after her. My eyes go to Quinn to make sure he heard that and he just shrugs. His dad’s word prove Quinn’s words from earlier, I’m so glad they were on my side.
The next morning, I’m greeted at the bottom of the stairs by a golden retriever. Oh, wait no, that’s just an overly energetic Trever Zegras.
“Hey Trev”
I give him a fist bump as I pass him. I’m wearing a white sundress today, my hair still braided from yesterday. I sit at the island counter with Trevor, catching up. Then my phone chimes, “Amelia Blake tweeted”. I’m about to sit the phone back down when another notification pops up, “You were mentioned in Amelia Blake’s post.”
I look at Trevor before I open the notification.
“@y/n.username is the definition of slut. I mean, not only is she flirting with the brothers but also their friends? How desperate.”
Trevor gasps and I look back at Amelia who’s sitting on the couch, tangled in Jack’s arms. He was quiet, too quiet. Did he know she posted that? He probably encouraged her. I shrug it off and tell Trevor it’s okay.
Then my mom announces the bright idea to go shopping in town.
And now I’m in the passenger seat of Quinn’s car, trying my best to avoid Amelia. I stay with Quinn the whole trip, if he didn’t care about the stupid rumor then neither did I. We all walk along the strip of shops together. Amelia practically drags the group into a makeup store and clothing store. I’m looking at bathing suits with the newly joined Dixie, which Trevor abandoned to go explore the store with Quinn.
I look up at the makeup section. Jack looked miserable, not that I cared or anything. Okay I sound like I’m in denial, maybe I care a little bit. Amelia was distracted and so I tell Dixie I’ll be right back. I walk next to Jack.
“Are you going to talk about what’s going on, or what?”
Jack looks down at me and sighs.
“I don’t know what you want me to say, I already apologized.”
So it’s about me? Why is this about me?
“You’re upset over me..?”
“She’s jealous because she saw some fan saying we’d be cute together.” He looks back up “you can go back to whatever you were doing.”
Right, that makes sense. No the fuck it does not. I backtrack and go back to Dixie.
I’m pretty silent for the rest of the trip. It ends with us eating lunch at a local cafe. I talk with Dixie about the whole time while eating. I pay to mind when Amelia excuses herself, Jack busies himself by talking to his brothers and Trevor. I excuse myself a little later to use the restroom.
I don’t know what I was expecting to see on the way to the bathroom but it was not Amelia kissing another guy. And I’m the slut? Makes total sense. When my anger fades from her, I can’t shake the aching feeling when I realize I have to tell Jack. I pull out my phone and snap a photo before going to the bathroom and back to the table.
Amelia is already back when I sit down. I contemplate posting the photo to ruin her reputation but then I remind myself of Jack who would be more than likely hurt. So I wait it out, I wait until we’re back home and everyone’s asleep.
I’m still thinking about whether or not to tell him as I sit by the pool with my feet in the water. I’m wearing a new bikini that I bought from the shop, deep red. I hear the door open and close but I don’t care to look back. Only do I look when then person sits next to me. Jack. I take a deep breath before speaking.
“This isn’t meant to hurt you but-“ I open my phone and scroll through the photos, showing him the one I took.
He shakes his head. He just shakes his head.
“Figured.”
“Excuse me?”
“No ones that jealous unless they’re reflecting”
He leans back on the palm of his hands and I go quiet, looking away. I set my phone down before speaking again.
“Why haven’t you been the typical asshole like you always are?”
“Mom told me you were worried,” he looks at me “when I got injured. I didn’t know you cared.”
My mouth opens but it closes before I can get anything out.
“I was only an asshole because I thought you hated me.”
“Oh”
“And besides, I was pretty pissed she posted that photo of you and Quinn. She did it because she was jealous. Shes so getting booted out of this house first thing in the morning.”
I hold in my laugh, as I look down at my lap. Jacks sits up and I speak.
“How do you really feel about me?” I look up at him “If you were only an asshole because you thought I hated you.”
He thinks for a moment before speaking,
“I had a crush on you when we were little.”
He admits.
“I guess being mean helped it but it never really went away. I guess admitting that, Amelia has every right no be jealous.”
“Not when she kissed that rando.”
I didn’t know what else to say. How could I when I just found out that a boy I thought hated me my whole life actually liked me? What? He shrugs and we just look at each other for a moment. I clear my throat and look away.
“Wanna make her even more jealous?”
Jack asks abruptly and I look at him like he’s grown two heads.
“What do you mean?”
“Let me kiss you.”
My eyes widen.
“Excuse me?”
Then he bursts out laughing.
“For a photo, I mean, she’d be pissed. Then you can post the one you showed me, ruin her reputation.”
Sweet, sweet revenge.
“Fine”
His lips were even sweeter.
He grabs my phone, not disconnecting our lips as he takes the photo. He only does when he looks at the screen.
“Good?”
He asks me and I nod, literally speechless. He tosses my phone aside on a lawn chair.
“So what-“
“Shut up.”
I cut him off and press my lips to his once again. I can feel his shit eating grin against my lips and his hands tangle in my hair. All my rational thoughts? Out the fucking window. I move and straddle his hips. He pulls away, the smile still on his face,
“Here?”
I don’t respond but instead I kiss him again. He doesn’t protest again when my hands slide under his shirt. He pulls it off, disconnecting our lips for only a moment. My eyes look down at his chest and torso. I’d seen it a million times but it was different this time. My eyes linger on a scar just above his collar bone, from the surgery.
I pepper kisses along it, careful to not put real pressure. The second I pull away, he pulls me back up to kiss his lips. His hands wander to the string of my bikini top, pausing.
“Positive?”
“Jack, please”
That’s all he needs before pulling the string, the top falling off of me. He wastes no time, craning his down to run his tongue along my chest.
“You have no idea how long I’ve waited to do this.”
He mumbles before taking one of my nipples into his mouth, his hand cupping the other. He stays like that for a moment before switching. I practically melt into his touch, my hands tangling into his hair.
He pulls away, looking up at me as if asking me if I want to keep going. My answer is me reaching down and tugging his swim shorts down. A smirk plays on his lips as he helps me pull them down. His hands are fast to untie my bikini bottoms the second his shorts are down.
A week ago I would’ve laughed in someone’s face if they simply told me I’d be kissing Jack. But now? Now I was lining him up to me. I gnaw at my lip as we keep our eyes on each other, his hands grip my hips to pull me down onto him.
I hold his shoulders, carful to not touch the injury. I gasp as he bottoms out inside.
“Holy fuck-“
“I know, I’ve got you.”
and he wasn’t lying. He pulls my hips up and down on him, I didn’t even have to move myself. He throws his head back and holds himself up with one palm when I start moving myself.
He was big. Well, the biggest I’ve had. I roll my hips as I move up at down. The sight on his mouth slightly ajar and he watches me nearly throws me over the edge. That would’ve been embarrassing, surely he’d picked on me for it.
His fingers gripped harshly on my hip. The feeling of his dick dragging against my walls has me gasping his name. I wrap my arms around his shoulders, burying my head into his non injured shoulder. His dick twitches as he moans softly.
“Where-“
“Inside”
I gasp,
“I’m on birth control.”
He knew that, I just wanted to remind him. He doesn’t protest to the idea, a few more bounces and he does just what I suggested. The feeling of his warm cum sends me completely over the edge, my juices mixing with his.
I stop moving as just sit with him inside for a moment, my head resting on his shoulder. He sits up and wraps his arms around me.
“I’m so fucking stupid, it was always you.”
“Can’t disagree with that”
I smile lazily as I sit up. He rolls his eyes playfully before pulling both of us to stand up. He adjusts his shorts before grabbing a towel to wrap around me. He grabs my bikini before pulling me inside and up to my room.
We shower.
We dress.
We lay down.
We. I just fucked the guy I despised my whole life? Did I regret it? Fuck no.
I lay in his arms in the bed, scrolling through my phone when I remember the whole reason we were in that situation. I go onto instagram and post the photo on my story with the caption “She thought I had the wrong brother” I tag Jack then post.
I mute my phone before nestling into an already sleeping Jacks chest, falling asleep myself.

.·:*¨¨* ≈☆≈ *¨¨*:·.
1 | NEW KID
You were never a fan of school. It was a complicated relationship, truly. One week, you’d be excelling in all of your classes, actually snatching a lunch table with your friends, and feeling like you were on cloud nine. But, the next, you could’ve failed a major test, be fighting with your friends, and be contemplating if complete social isolation is really a bad idea.
You’ve learned from the past 3 years of high school. You lose friends, you fail a test, you contemplate ripping your hair out because your crush called you annoying… It’s natural!
But you shouldn’t be dwelling on the past right now, not as you’re walking down the halls as a senior. When you were a freshman, you’d hear the seniors say that it was like being on a power trip. Of course, you never believed them. You assumed their egos were just bigger than the word ‘REJECTED’ was written in the letters from their top colleges. But, they were right…
Nothing can touch you now!
“Y/N! Over here!” Your speed walking is halted when your name is called from down the hall.
In the sea of people, you spot Leah, her hand waving in the air, flagging you down. You push through the crowd of terrified freshmen, not caring if you knock their shoulders, on your way to your friend. Only when you’re close enough do you spot the rest of your friends huddled together.
“Please tell me we have classes together,” you get straight to the point since the anxiety has been eating away at you all summer.
Everyone immediately pulls out their paper schedules to compare. Last year you didn’t have any classes with your friends—it was hell. Hopefully this year will be different.
“I’ve got APUSH with Mr. Samuels first period,” your friend, Frankie, calls out first, and everyone scoffs.
“Did you just say that to show off that you’re in an AP class?” Ryan rolls his eyes.
“Just say you flunked last year and have to retake World History,” Frankie retorts, shrugging her shoulders casually.
“I have Physics first period,” you interject, because if you didn’t, they’d bicker all day.
“I have Physics too!” Quinn gasps, a large smile on her face. “What teacher?”
“Mrs. Wright?”
“Damn,” she sighs. “I’m with Mr. Matthews.”
“What electives are you guys taking?” Wayde speaks up.
“I’ve got art fifth period,” Leah answers, a given since it’s her passion.
“I’m doing home economics third period,” Ronan surprises the group. He doesn’t seem like the type of person to take that class. When he notices our shocked faces, he defends himself. “What?! It’s an easy A!”
“We’ve seen you try to make popcorn,” you tease.
“I’m sorry, but someone,” he nastily eyes Ryan, “threw away the instructions.”
“There’s a popcorn button on the microwave, Ronan!” Quinn cries out, still as distressed as the day it happened.
Out of nowhere, and far too soon, the bell rings out. Senior year begins. All your friends groan, but you’re buzzing with excitement. You’re not sure why, but this year just feels different.
The group disperses quickly since some of us have to book it to the other side of the school. Your class is probably the furthest, but when you find your feet rushing against the linoleum floors, you slow your pace. You’re a senior now! You’re cool… No need to rush.
When you find your class, you notice the crowd surrounding the door, everyone slowly shuffling inside. It’s hard to try and spot familiar faces in the crowd, but that’s probably because there aren’t any. Not even an acquaintance that you could sit next to. But maybe this will give you the opportunity to make more friends, right?
God, please let this year go fast.
When you—finally—make your way into the classroom, practically all the lab benches are already taken. Groups of people talking or loners making friends with other loners. The only table left is in the front, right by the door. Fantastic.
You take the seat closest to the wall, reluctantly. At least now you won’t have to awkwardly sit at a table with people who don’t want you there. You keep your head down as the last few stragglers shuffle in, internally praying that no one sits beside you. Who else would want a front seat anyway? You’re the only idiot who chose it willingly.
“This seat taken?” Apparently, you were wrong.
Peering up at the person who interrupted your thoughts, you hope it’s someone you may know. But…it isn’t. In fact, you haven’t seen this face in all your 3 years here. Sure, you may not know everyone who walks these halls, but you would remember this face.
He can’t be an underclassmen, unless he was held back a few years, because there’s a small tattoo on his inner arm. He’s tall. Very tall. Good head of hair. Actually, maybe too much hair. Might be weighing him down a bit from sight of his hunched posture. Nice face, you guess. Well, you know. Pretty eyes. Even if they’re staring at you with clear as day confusion right now.
Oh, shit, right. You’re supposed to speak now.
“Oh,” you laugh awkwardly, “no, it isn’t.”
“Cool,” he replies quickly, dragging the stool out and taking a seat.
“Good morning, Seniors!” You only realize how hard you’ve been staring at him when the teacher interrupts, waltzing into the room. An unenthusiastic ‘morning’ rolls out throughout the students, which the teacher just can’t accept. “Come on, you can do better than that! I know it’s early and you wish you were anywhere but here, but give me something!”
That’s when Janey, the schools teacher’s pet, sings out, “Good morning, Mrs. Wright!”
You try—you really do—to hold back your groan at her enthusiasm to be favored, but apparently it slips out quietly. You only know this because Mr. Mystery beside you snaps his face in your direction. Your eyes grow wide as a nervous smirk grows on his face. It’s very lopsided, revealing dimples. Cute.
Mrs. Wright begins attendance, rattling off every name on the list and striking them off as they half-heartedly mutter ‘here’. When it comes to your turn, you can instantly feel your cheeks go red, quickly calling out your being.
“Oh! We have a new student in our class! Wow… Transferring your senior year, that’s harsh.” Your eyes travel around the room looking for who it could be, though you have a hunch. “Harry Styles?”
“Here,” Harry—formally Mr. Mystery—speaks beside you. It’s nice to put a name to the face.
“Welcome to Woodbridge! Hope you don’t hate us already given your circumstances of coming in so late.”
“No,” he laughs lightly—uncomfortably.
“Can I ask what brings you here?” Mrs. Wright presses, and you can’t say that you aren’t curious too.
What if it’s something crazy? Like, he was expelled from his last school for creating a weapon of mass destruction in his last science class? Oh god… Maybe you should switch seats?
“Mom got a new job,” he explains simply. Not too keen on sharing to a group of strangers, you guess.
Mrs. Wright takes his reply as is and moves on to the next kid. “Brock Sanders?”
“Here.”
.·:*¨¨* ≈☆≈ *¨¨*:·.
You’re holding on by a thread. You should’ve never gone into this day with such a positive attitude. Other than Physics, all of your classes have been horrible. The teachers have, not just sticks, but tree trunks up their asses. You have no friends in any of your classes and the day just feels like it’s dragging on.
The silver lining is that it’s finally lunch.
You aren’t even sure why you’re walking into the lunch room since you’re positive none of your friends could’ve gotten a table. Once that bell rings, everyone becomes a track star. And, well, you and your friends are too out of shape to even try.
The commotion of the school only grows louder as you walk further into the room. Loud chatter, laughter, and even some screaming. It’s easy to spot the different cliques at the tables. Somehow they always get one. Guess you just have to know people to get that lucky. You’ve got the jocks, the nerds, the burnouts. It’s all very High School Musical. Perhaps if you broke out into song someone would give up their table?
The freshmen wander around aimlessly in search of a table, not yet knowing that the bathroom stalls are about to become their best friends. It almost makes you sad. Nostalgic. But, luckily, Leah’s brother was a senior back then so he’d let us sit with his group. The entire table reeked of weed, so you barely ate lunch that year. But you did smoke your first blunt!
“Y/N!” Speak of the devil, Leah calls out to you from across the room—sitting at a table. You could cry tears of joy. How did they snatch one?
Your feet shuffle against the over-waxed floors, making your shoes squeak against the tile. But when you get close enough to them, you skid to a halt.
Sat in between Ronan and Wayde, Mr. Mystery—or, sorry, Harry—laughs along with the group. It’s not a bad type of shock to see him, more so just…confusion. We haven’t added anyone into our group since Quinn and Frankie in sophomore year. But maybe that’s not what’s happening here? Maybe they’re just using him for a table?
You slowly sit down between Leah and Quinn, eyeing the conversation going on on the other side of the table. Frankie and Ryan speak on one side of you while Leah and Quinn talk over you. But you’re more focused on what Ronan and Wayde are saying to the new face.
“Oh, shit, right!” Wayde smacks his hand against his forehead. “Y/N, this is—“
“Harry,” you finish his sentence, speaking to the man of the hour instead of Wayde.
“Y’all know each other?” Wayde’s eyes dance between us. “Was there some summer romance we didn’t know about?”
“What?” You snap back into reality. “No, we have Physics together.”
“Oh… Yeah, that makes more sense.” You swore, Wayde could be so dense sometimes.
“Y/N, did you pack some of those chips you know I love?” Ronan asks, major puppy dog eyes on his face. To his delight, you pull out a separate baggy just for him, tossing it at his face.
“How’d we get a table anyway?” You ask, ripping open your own bag.
“Harry over here has a free period before lunch!” Wayde shakes Harry by the shoulders, and a shy smile grows on his face. “We met in third period and it was an instant love connection,” he flutters his eyes at Harry, “so he said he’d save us a spot.”
“Well… That was nice of you, Harry,” you speak in between crunches of chips.
“If it meant I wasn’t eating alone on my first day, I would’ve said yes to just about anyone,” Harry jokes, earning a shoulder nudge from Wayde.
“He doesn’t mean that,” Wayde makes sure we know.
“Are you in love with the new kid or something?” Frankie questions, not a hint of sarcasm or jest in her tone.
“What?!” Wayde scoffs, his eyes darting beside me to Leah. “I just think he’s cool or…whatever. Fuck you all. I’m never speaking again.”
“Finally.” Frankie rolls her eyes.
“Don’t worry, man,” Harry murmurs, knocking his shoulder against Wayde’s, “they just don’t understand us.”
“You’re right.” Wayde brightens up again. “He’s officially my new best friend. You’re all dead to me.” When no one protests his words, he pouts and whines, “I actually hate you all.”
.·:*¨¨* ≈☆≈ *¨¨*:·.
Your body is buzzing like it knows today is almost over. Just one more class and then you can go home and pretend, at least for a few hours, that summer hadn’t escaped so fast.
Your final class of the day seems like it would be the easiest, but it’s actually the one giving you the most anxiety.
Creative Writing.
You didn’t mean to sign up for it, you were just late to registration and it was the only elective left. You have no idea what to expect when walking into this class. Will you have to recite poetry in front of the whole class? Oh god… You might throw up.
Walking into the room, immediately the vibe is different. You knew this class would be on the artsier side, but it feels as if you’ve just walked into a creative dungeon. There’s linens covering the windows and funky decorations littered all over the place. It’s oddly calming, but you don’t trust it.
“Y/N!” A voice calls out, snapping you out of your judgmental look around.
You peer over and spot Harry, of all people, sitting alone at a desk. Your eyebrows scrunch together, not expecting him. Perhaps he got stuck in this class like you did. Your feet reluctantly carry you to his table, where he’s motioning to the empty seat beside him. Slowly, you slump down into it, finding yourself frowning already even though the class hasn’t even started yet.
“Did you get stuck in this class too?” you groan.
“What? No,” he replies, looking bewildered at your bewilderment.
“So you, electively, chose to be here?”
“It’s called an elective, isn’t it?” he jokes, shrugging his shoulders.
“Why the hell would you choose Creative Writing over everything else?”
He looks a little scared. His eyes bounce back and forth between yours. “Because I wanted to?”
“Hmm,” you hum. He’s hard to read.
Just then, the teacher walks in and greets the class with an all-too cheery smile. You almost roll your eyes. She quickly takes attendance and gives a rundown of the syllabus, but it leaves you with a good chunk of class left.
“For the remainder of the class, I would like you to get to know your table partner better! Let’s start by sharing your most memorable dream!”
You groan, contemplating slamming your head against the desk. If this is any indication of how the rest of the year will be, you’re doomed.
“Do you want to go first, or me?” Harry asks, apparently genuinely interested in this topic.
“We don’t actually have to share our dreams…” You cringe internally, slightly turning toward him in your chair.
He’s leaning back now, arms crossed over his chest. The picture of casualness. The opposite of what you’d be on your first day at a new school. But, you guess, from the way every girl has been eyeing him since he opened his mouth, he really has nothing to worry about. You should probably warn Wayde that his little bromance will be ruined once the populars recruit him and he leaves us in the dust.
Guess you can at least entertain him until then.
“I’ll take that as I’m going first,” he says, shifting in his seat until he’s comfortable. And despite your eye roll, you find yourself moving too, turning in your chair until your knees face him. “I’ve had this recurring dream that I’m being chased by this massive spider, but I can’t get away because the ground keeps caving in.”
“Sounds like a fear of spiders,” you psychoanalyze him.
“But I’m not afraid of spiders!” he defends, a look of confusion on his face.
“Doesn’t sound like it,” you tease, earning a side-eye scowl from him. It, oddly enough, makes you laugh.
“The worst part is that, in my head, I’m yelling that the ground wasn’t supposed to fall! And then the dream restarts so the ground won’t cave in, but it just keeps doing it!”
“So… A fear of spiders and loss of control? Got it.” You nod, sizing him up.
“Are you my therapist now?” he laughs lightly, turning in his seat until your knees brush together.
“I charge a thousand bucks a minute.”
“Okay, let’s hear your dream so I can tell you everything that’s wrong with you,” he jokes, a permanent lopsided smile on his face.
“Let’s see…” You ponder for a minute, pursing your lips and tapping your finger against them. “Oh! One time, I had a dream that my dad died, but, like, his soul was attached to this Halloween skeleton decoration—like, the small, plastic ones. So, I went into his office and his chair swiveled around, and it was just this tiny little skeleton talking to me as if it was my dad.”
“Interesting…” Harry hums, trying to therapize you. “I think you’re just clinically insane.”
“Sounds about right.” You smile brightly, making him laugh.
When the bell rings, you’re both brought back to reality. Kids rush to get out of the room as fast as they can, wanting to avoid the traffic in the school's parking lot. You don’t really worry about it, you’ll make it home eventually. Calmly, you pack up your things, eyeing Harry doing the same.
Slinging your backpack over your shoulders, something stops you from just walking out of the door. Something keeps you standing by the desk, acting as if you’re situating yourself instead of waiting.
“Do you drive to school?” Harry asks, noticing you waiting, but not saying anything about it.
“Yeah,” you nod, “what about you?”
“Nah,” he shakes his head. “I rode my bike here.”
“How far do you live?” You hope your question doesn’t come off stalkerish and more like you’re just worried about his well being from riding long distances.
He begins the trek out of the room with you tailing behind him. “I live down by the creek.”
“Seriously?” you gasp, and he nods. “Which street?”
“Sansbury,” he replies, a little scared of your reaction.
“I live just a few blocks up on Cedar!” Your words come out more excited than you intended them to be. You’re not plotting anything! Just…stating facts.
“Cool,” he replies as we exit the school and get slapped in the face with the hot weather. “Jesus, is it always this humid?”
“Only during the summer months.” You shrug, not really noticing the horrendous weather since you’ve lived here your whole life. “Gets a lot colder towards the end of September.”
“It snows here, right?” He squints as he stares at you, shielding his eyes from the harsh sun.
“Yeah, the first snowfall is around November.”
He groans. “I need to get my license.”
“I could, uhm…” you suddenly blurt out, but hold back as nerves eat you alive. There’s no reason for them, it’s just annoying. You’d just be being a good person, and if he declines, then that’s fine! “I drive my dad’s old pickup, so… If you wanted, uhm… We could throw your bike in the back and I could give you a ride?”
“Really?” He’s staring at you like you have 3 heads.
“I mean…yeah?” You shrug as nonchalantly as you can.
“Yeah… Cool.”
You’re going to start a tally on how many times he says that word in one day.

Luke’s first season is over, finally. It’s time for summer in Michigan once again and Luke has had his bag packed for weeks already, craving the warmth on his skin and the spray of the lake water kicked up by the motor of the boat as Quinn sails to the perfect spot. Luke misses how it’s simpler in the summer, no obligations and as little hockey as possible until training season begins to come back around. The wanders around Ann Arbour in the soft summer mornings and the parties in the evenings, his brothers shotgunning beers and music pulsing through the house. Luke’s been thinking about it for months now; when he’s shivering out on the ice and gripping his hockey stick with the force of something horrid, he thinks of how the sun will feel on his back when he finally gets there.
The journey down feels like it stretches out longer and longer, in a way that it didn’t used to, the weight of his hockey bag with all his gear for summer practice sits heavily on his right shoulder, it digs and cuts into his neck, the strap struggling to keep up with the weight of the bag.
Each swallow clogs up his throat, gets stuck halfway, and it’s deeply unsettling. He’s had an okay first season with the Devils, fun with Jack and the rest of the team who have tried - and done a pretty good job - of keeping him from having a first season like Jack’s. Luke has spent the last few months reassuring Jack that he’s had a great time and that it was everything that he’d wanted. So why does the taste of the words feel bitter in his mouth when he repeats the same spiel to Jack. The return to Michigan hopefully heralds a turn around in his mood and that’s why he’s so looking forward to this summer, to letting his hair down metaphorically speaking and forgetting all about hockey for a moment.
Luke’s been acting like the stroppy younger brother the entire way to the house, staring out at the passing landscape of Michigan with his headphones on, hoping that the music blasting through his headphones will distract his from the swirling thoughts which will hopefully wash down the drain once he gets back into the swing of summer.
When they pull into the drive of the summer house, Luke manages to tear himself away from his iPhone screen to appreciate the lovely sight of his impending summer.
Which is when Quinn drops the bombshell that threatens his entire summer.
“We are going to play so much hockey this summer.”
Oh hell no.
Luke sighs in response as Jack cheers in excitement, pulling his bag out of the boot of the car and dashing to the front door.
Climbing out slowly, Luke lugs his bag behind him and into the house, ducking from Jack’s hand which reaches out to ruffle his hair as he passes.
His brothers are chatting between them as Luke drifts through the house towards his room, dumping his bag in the corner and flopping right onto the middle on the bed, falling into the soft sheets and smushing his face into the duvet, breathing in the familiar scent. His muscles are stiff from the long day of travel and Luke lets a slight groan slip from his lips as he stretches out on the soft surface.
He can hear the conversation between Jack and Quinn, dampened by distance, words just indecipherable murmurs. Probably something to do with hockey, usually he would be right down with them, yapping away like an excited puppy. He doesn’t think that either of them have noticed that he has been quieter than usual so far, and if they have, then they haven’t mentioned it. He doesn’t even know what he would say, how he would explain it. He just feels distant, drained.
Rolling onto his back, he draws his hands over his face, tugging at his skin and pulling through his knotted curls. They really need to be cut, he wandered, get the damp curls off the back of his neck.
He drags himself into the bathroom for a shower and trawls downstairs, casting a despondent glance at the empty fruit bowl and instead digs into the empty snack drawer for a stupid little health bar which he munches on with a disgusted face. He doesn’t know why he picked one of these, he knows he hates them.
Luke can hear the familiar sounds of stick and puck from their practice area elsewhere in the house and the very sound of it makes him want to scream. He hopes that things will turn around tomorrow when Trevor and Cole arrive, they’ll throw a good party and then maybe Luke can really lose himself.
Like he’s not already a little lost.
Going out onto the deck of the lake house instead, he watches a couple of the boats bob and hover on the water and listens to the lapping of the water close-by. He’s not sure how long he sits there, just listening, not actually doing anything at all. It’s been a long time since he’s not actually done anything except sit, it makes him itchy and uncomfortable.
It’s Jack who fetches him in and Luke quietly lets out a little thanks that it’s Jack who catches him by the water. Quinn was always a tad more perceptive than Jack, catching on faster to Luke’s souring mood, in a way that would take Jack a couple more days of moping to notice.
“Lukey, getting pizza. What’s your order?” He hollers.
Luke whips around, scrambling to his feet, surprised by the sudden interruption. He follows Jack back inside to see Quinn standing expectantly at the kitchen counter, menu in hand.
Luke smiles contentedly, “I’ll have a pepperoni. I’ll come pick it up with you?”
Quinn nods, “Sure if you want, going in ten minutes.”
The pizza place is definitely new, Luke gets out and studies the exterior with one hand on his hip awkwardly like a disapproving mother. He knows the stone bricks are familiar but he can’t work out what was here before. Quinn insisted that the place isn’t new and that they’ve been once before but Luke is so sure that they haven’t. It’s new. Wasn’t here last summer. He ponders it as he pushes open the door, wandering in alone and leaving Quinn in the car as he goes to pick up the pizzas. He could swear that this place isn’t familiar, he furrows his brows as he stands at the abandoned counter.
There’s a little toy bell that sits at the front on the counter. Luke looks around for a moment, then stretches out his hand towards the bell; his hand hovers over it, then he pulls it back hesitantly. With another sweep of his eyes across the empty pizza place, his hand hovers out again over the tiny silver bell, then taking a deep breath in, he tentatively presses down, letting it ring out a soft ting.
At first, nothing happens, Luke wonders if he imagined the little sound that emitted from the bell. He takes a step back and pulls out his phone from his back jean pocket, scanning the room.
Then there is a flurry of footsteps from somewhere that Luke can’t see, his head pops up in curiosity when he hears it. A girl rounds the corner, panting with her heads on her knees, she looks up for a second, taking a moment and smiling at Luke.
She rises from her folded position and Luke can see the little red apron wrapped around her waist and the blue fares and her little matching red tank top. Luke’s struck by the sight of her, and although he feels as if his jaw is hanging open he can’t bring himself to try and close it. Brown curls fall long and delicate across her chest and she pushes them back harshly, sighing and leaning against the counter.
Luke steps forward and she begins to speak, voice as sweet as a silver bell, “Hi, sorry I was in the back,” she stuffs her hands into her back jean pockets and lets an awkward smile dance across her lips, “What can I help you with today?”
“Are you new?” Luke blurts out.
He immediately regrets it. What the actual fuck Luke, how hard is it to be a normal functioning human being? Shaking his head, he tries to correct himself,
“Sorry, I mean the shop?”
She smiles further and something about it draws Luke in like iron filings to a magnet.
“I wouldn’t know about the shop, but I sure am new,” she shakes her head, pulling out a little notebook and brushing a stray curl behind her ear gently, “so go easy on me would ya? Now, what can I help you with…”
Her voice trails off at the end, off and up. It takes Luke an embarrassingly long time to realise that that is his cue to tell her his name.
“Luke, I’m Luke.”
He glances at her nametag, which reads in swirly letters, against a dark red background and next to a stupid cartoon pizza icon, Hayden.
“Well nice to meet you Luke, I’m Hayden.” She grins, pointing up to her nametag and smiling awkwardly.
Luke nods, stuffing his hands into his jean pockets, “I thought Hayden was a-”
“A boys name?” She bows her head sagely, laughing slightly and leaning forward to press her arms against the countertop, “Yeah well my parents wanted to be different.”
Both of them laugh gently. Luke glances over through the window and sees Quinn sat in the car waiting. He’s suddenly reminded that he’s sort of on a time limit.
He turns back to Hayden at the counter, “I’m here to pick up some pizza,” Luke says gently.
“Wow, shocker,” she giggles, a sound that Luke feels like he might get high off. She shakes her head and pulls out a little book from behind the counter, “What name?”
She laughs, “Sorry stupid question.”
“It’s not actually. I think it’s under Quinn Hughes.”
Hayden murmurs under her breath, rifling with quick and nimble hands through the little book on the counter. Luke rocks back on his heels while she does so, studying the gentle movements of her fingers as they brush through the yellowed pages.
“Ah, got it. One moment.”
Before a word can even come out of Luke’s mouth, she has disappeared into the back of the shop again. Luke can hear her rifling about where he can’t see in the back. It’s only a moment, but she pops her head around the corner, coming around with a stack of pizza boxes which she places on the counter.
Tearing the post-it note with Hughes written on the top off the box, she says, “Alright Luke, enjoy your pizza.”
“Thanks,” he sighs, unable to think of anything else to say to the gorgeous girl in front of him.
He picks up the boxes and moves towards the door, “Bye Hay-” is already out of his mouth but when he turns around, she has disappeared again.
It’s annoying. It’s incredibly irritating. Luke is completely unable to focus on his pizza, his cool beer, the sounds and smell of the lake house. Not because he is so focused on hockey, on how shit he feels, but on her.
Leaning off the edge of the deck, letting his curls hang down towards the water, Luke closes his eyes and sees a flash of brunette curls and green eyes. He can’t not think about it, about her. Like the same rush adrenaline that he feels when he hits the ice, an adrenaline that hasn’t been tainted with time, one that he doesn’t share with anyone, one that doesn’t come with obligations.
He lets out a deep sigh into the marbled orange and red sky and hopes, more than hopes, believes that this summer is going to be a good one, for the first time since he arrived.
Hayden might be fucked. Oh definitely.
“Fuck, fuck, fuck,” she mutters to herself under her breath, as she quietly shuffles around the room, gathering up in her arms her pieces of clothing that are strewn across the carpeted floor.
Treading around carefully, she slinks softly through the small gap in the door out of the bedroom with her pieces of clothing crammed between her hands.
She is so late for work. She has made herself so late for work.
The curses continue under her breath as she pulls on the discarded clothing in the living room, hobbling and jumping around with as much energy and urgency as her hungover self can muster.
A little ding on her phone tells her that she should be at work by now which causes another soft fuck to slip from her lips.
She can already bet on the disapproving shake of her boss's head as she comes barrelling through the door. Almost certainly the chiding from her friends and coworkers as she reveals that she hooked up with her ex-boyfriend once again this summer. Hayden is sure of the pursed lips of her mother when she reveals that once again, no, she will not be returning home for the summer with a boyfriend. There will be another attempt from reproachful relatives to set her up with someone suitable.
Only twenty, and she’s under some expectation to be settling down. Settling down but she can’t even drink yet.
Hayden leaves through the unlocked front door still shoving one heel on forcefully, and then takes off in a jog down the street, thankful for the practice at the run club back in the city for giving the strength to run the entire way to the pizza place in a pair of hardly suitable shoes and with a thumping headache slap bang in the middle of her temple.
The first words that meet her as she comes pushing through the front door of the pizza place are from her best friend and coworker. The little bell at the top of the door rings which exacerbates the pounding in her head and Belle leans over the counter to look at her, one eyebrow raised and a slight smirk.
“Girl you are a hot mess,” Belle scoffs, pushing the little red apron across the counter towards Hayden.
Hayden just shakes her head as she reaches for the little piece of fabric, tying it around her waist with a little bow in the back.
Belle carries on, tapping her pen against the tile surface, “Seriously though, Jamie?”
Hayden presses her head against the tile, letting out a soft groan and trying not to think or rather to care about how many germs are probably on the surface at that moment. Since she got back to Michigan, her whole life has been such a mess and now she has to play happy and pretend at the golf club with the family for a whole week.
“I wasn’t thinking.” She admits, running her hands through her hair, tugging a little at the strands.
She never thinks.
A couple of months ago, Hayden was dreaming of her perfect summer at her boyfriend’s family’s home in the south. By march she had been out shopping, buying bits and pieces, a new and less slutty bikini suitable for meeting the parents. Hayden had been settling down, finally, much to the joy of her mother and father. The nights out had ceased and been traded for fancy dinners with the other big finance schmucks. For a while, it felt like it was something that Hayden would never be able to get used to, but then with time and plenty of expensive gifts, the feeling of being displaced had ceased and she felt happy. She’d succeeded, finally. Made it, done it, managed exactly what everyone wanted for her. By march, it felt like everything was perfect. The marriage, the kids, the nice, white and picket fence cul de sac home was in reach. In reach by march. By June all of that was out of the window. She was back hooking up with Jamie and working at a local pizza shop. It had all fallen away so quickly from her, no summers in Texas, no settling down. Her mother’s face had set back into that hard stone line and she had gone back to the family home in Michigan to face the music.
That life felt so far away standing behind the counter of the pizza place, pushing her knotted hair behind her ears, smelling slightly of vodka and the feeling of her heels digging into her sore feet.
It was a very slow day which only prolonged the way her mind dragged, like a trawler along the sea bed, over her past and the way that everything had gone wrong. She had taken to tapping her feet, raising them up and down in order to find some sort of relief. By midday, she had managed to snag a hairbrush to brush through the knots and a cloth to wipe her face with, which still had remnants of make up on.
Luckily, Belle stayed until three, which gave her a good way to pass the time and distract her from the difficult day. Currently they were on the topic of summer plans, and Belle as per usual had plans for a riotous summer in Michigan, which Hayden was hoping to piggyback off. Belle had snagged an invitation to the first proper party of the summer season apparently and had invited Hayden as a plus one. She was toying with the idea, a nice party, kegger at some rich kid’s lake house, it would be a good time and a good chance to make some mistakes.
Hayden was hoping for something along the lines of a summer fling so she could properly let her hair down and get embroiled with someone else so that she didn’t have to think about how things had ended with her ex-boyfriend.
Belle was saying something about the boys hosting, two brothers who owned the property, real celebrities. Hayden wasn’t really listening that much, just looking at the way the paint peeled off the south facing wall, it was even worse round in the back, maybe if it stayed slow, she’d go around back and try and fix up some of the peeling paint - it was beginning to irritate her.
They chatted lightly until Belle had to leave, and bored out of her mind, Hayden sequestered herself into the back, reorganising some shelves that were piled high with random crap. The banged up radio crackled quietly and gently in the background as Hayden teetered on the top of the ladder, shuffling around items right at the back of the highest shelf, her legs wobbling with the weight of her own body and the effects of the night before as she kept her balance on her heels.
She hummed along to the song on the radio under her breath, trapped in her own world. It was the most peaceful that she had felt in a way, quiet, on her own and left to do her job. Her phone was silent since she’d left Jamie’s house and she was very grateful for it. Undoubtedly he would be getting in touch in a couple days, drunk and begging for her to come over again, and she might be equally drunk, bored and lonely - not to mention stupid - and she would teeter on over, like she always did. Part of her wanted to break the cycle and move on, but frankly she’d gone through a lot of men, some like Jamie, and some like her most recent ex-boyfriend and she was done with it all. Maybe she should become a nun, she mused. Oh her mother would love that. Her life had really gone downhill since college, only 20 and already considering celibacy.
She heard the tell-tale ring of the stupid little toy bell that they’d put out on the counter for customers - it knocked her right out of her little dream-state.
Mumbling curses under her breath, Hayden struggled to lower herself from the ladder, swaying and scrambling like a woman possessed.
When she finally rounded the corner to the front of the shop, she was out of breath, and took a second with her hands on her knees to regain her breath, when she looked up finally, there was a boy standing there. Well, a man really. He was looking at her. She was looking at him. He stood awkwardly, hands almost limp by her sides and phone in hand. She’d never seen him before around here. Interesting. But she wasn’t exactly a local herself, he was probably only here for the summer, maybe the family had a summer house. Highly probable. The shoes and shorts were expensive, brand made. The car idling outside told a similar story. He didn’t look stuck up, but she eyed him down anyway, time would tell.
Hayden put on her best customer service voice, smiling at the guy and painting an apologetic smile across her lips, “Hi, sorry I was in the back. What can I help you with today?”
Their conversation lasted no more than five minutes, Hayden could’ve guessed.
As Hayden lay in her bed that evening, staring up at the feathered ceiling and the blinking time of seven pm on her old alarm clock, she couldn’t get the exchange out of her head. The boy.
Jamie was over. She shouldn’t really be thinking about Luke - that’s what he said his name was - as Jamie lay beside her, his greedy hands roaming her body. He was her age probably, and sweet and awkward, he led the conversation in a way that she was definitely not expecting it to, the complete opposite of the stuck up, rich boy coming from the city to spend the summer in Michigan. He had long curls that were clearly being unintentionally grown out, Hayden could guess that by the end of the week they would be gone, but as she lay on the warm sheets, she thought of the tight curls that stuck to the back of his neck and the fluff sitting on the top that he clearly had little idea of how to take care of. Hayden approximated that he lived in a cold state, covered up the hair with a beanie for half the year - if he was a California boy they would undoubtedly be better taken care of, salt curled and sun bleached. It was only guesses, she didn’t know the boy, and he had proven her wrong once before.
Hayden turned her attention back to Jamie who was pawing at her like a sick dog. She grimaced.
“Can you go?” She asked him, rolling her head to the side to look at him.
Jamie frowned, “What?”
“I’d like you to leave,” she rephrased, pushing herself off the bed and away from where Jamie was lying, tugging on her sweater haphazardly.
His mouth was open like he was buffering in real time, gaping like a fish out of water, he shut it quickly, “Are you serious.”
“Very, Jamie, get out.”
Jamie leered forward, “Baby…”
Hayden shook her head, stepping back, “And I am not your baby, haven’t been for a long time. I’m done with this.”
The boy mumbled out a quiet but harsh affirmation and got out of the house as quickly as he could manage. By the time he’d shut the door behind him, Hayden pulled her hands through her hair and grabbed her tote bag and her keys which were laying on the side of the sofa and got out of the house as fast as she could.
Hayden went to her favourite place in town, and probably the only place that was still open at the late hours of the evening, Kenny’s cornershop. That’s not what it was actually called, but rather what everybody called it. And it was her favourite for a plethora of reasons, the double whammy of fresh fruit, the classic late night snacks and Kenny’s lovely affinity for letting Hayden purchase alcohol underage, which was good because Hayden lacked a passing fake ID.
She rolled into the car park slowly and made her way into the store, decorated with the nostalgic glare of old strip fluorescent lighting. Wandering slowly through the aisles and picking at the snacks, trying to decide what to purchase with her measly pizza shop paycheque, she heard the echoing of male voices.
Ever the snooper, Hayden couldn’t help but listen in.
“I’m not planning on having a summer like yours Jack.” A voice chimed, tinted with annoyance but soft with affection.
Someone, Hayden could only assume it was Jack, responded, “Come on Rusty, not even one little summer fling,” it was playful and abrasive. Hayden snorted softly.
A third voice entered the conversation, “Leave him be Jack, he’s more of the settle down type. But seriously Lukey, you’re not going to have any fun while we’re here?”
Lukey. Hayden wondered if it was the same Luke from before. Probably with some friends that he was summering with, it piqued Hayden’s interest.
Picking up a tub of ice cream and a cider, Hayden rounded the corner slowly, eyes picking through the store and landing on Luke and two other guys - both looking older - standing by the soft drinks section further down the aisle. They were still deep in bickering as Hayden made her way down the aisle with slow and gentle steps.
Luke’s eyes scanned the store and caught her walking towards him, Hayden smiled placidly as she watched recognition flicker in his eyes.
“Hi,” he breathed out.
Hayden felt a rush surge through her with the recognition and as she walked past, met his gaze squarely.
“Hi Luke,” She replied, like a goddamn idiot.
“Uh Luke, who the fuck was that?” Jack whispered harshly as Luke watched Hayden’s departing figure.
Luke looked back at the somewhat stunned faces of Jack and Quinn, who had been chiding him less than a minute ago.
He shrugged, picking up a gatorade and turning it over to read the nutrition label on the back, “The girl who works at the pizza place. I met her today picking up our order.”
“You like her?” Quinn asks, studying Luke in a way which makes Luke’s skin crawl, it’s analytic - it’s Quinn’s ‘older brother syndrome’ kicking in.
“She’s nice,” Luke hums, reaching forward to put the bottle he was holding back on the shelf to look at the over flavours that the little store has available.
Jack throws up his hands, voice screechy and exasperated, “Jesus Luke, she’s nice?”
“What do you want me to say?”
Jack has one hand on his hip, Quinn is rolling his eyes as Jack rambles, “I don’t know. But Jesus Luke, if you don’t hit that, I will.”
“Jacky don’t be crude,” Quinn scolds, smacking Jack’s shoulder lightly.
Luke shakes his head in response to Jack, “I don’t know.”
The conversation ends there. Luke is sure that it won’t be the first time that summer that Quinn is scolding Jack about his attitude towards women; Luke has already heard all about Jack’s whorish summer plans, which Luke wants no part in. Luke thinks Quinn feels the same way.
But Jack and Quinn’s words stick in his head nonetheless. She was nice, she was more than nice. She was saccharine sweet with an edge. She had a biting smile and an attitude under her veneer of softness, Luke caught glimpses of it. Luke wondered if she was an eldest sibling - her and Quinn had the same analytical, critical gaze. The same gaze that Luke withered under when it was Quinn, but when she looked, when she really looked, Luke felt like bearing his entire soul to her, like she was doing it out of care and curiosity. He hoped that they met again, just so Luke could feel the way her attention pulled on the edges of his soul, unravelling him before her.
A complete stereotype. Typical Luke. Falling apart in front of a pretty woman.
Luke used to be a hopeless romantic, but love had an interesting way of doing him dirty, screwing him over. He hadn’t ever really had a proper serious relationship, never found the one, they usually were eyeing up Jack instead, Luke was just a conduit. He would never say it to his brothers, his friends, his teammates, anyone really, but in terms of love and relationships, Luke was insecure; his mother had said once that she thought he’d be the first one to get married, but as time wore on, Luke couldn’t help but feel like it would never happen. It made him anxious and itchy and he had made himself a silent pact to stay away from love for as long as possible, maybe meet someone who didn’t know who he was, didn’t know his family.
He tossed and turned the whole night under the warm heat of the lake house and the pressure of the year so far weighing down on him, like a stone sinking through water. Luke felt like he was gasping for air, failing at every aspect of what was expected of him.
The thought of the party tomorrow night made him feel sick now, he was really not in the mood for drunkenness and strangers. Probably girls, who’d crowd him and made him feel that horribly familiar itchy feeling. Jack sucking off someone face in a corner, Trevor too, and Quinn chatting up someone too, trying to get over the post break-up moping.
When Luke finally drifted off to sleep, he was curled up in a ball, replaying every interaction that he’d had with Hayden that day.
He sneered at himself. What a loser.

1.
It had always been yn and quinn, quinn and yn, attached to the hip at 5 years old and neither of you wanted to let go. If you would have told Quinn that the little girl the jack pushed into the sandbox at 5 would be his best friend for the rest of his life, he'd think you're crazy. But here you guys are today starting the first day of college, together.
This wasn't exactly the plan for you guys, it just so happened you got into michigan, the same place quinn was signing to play hockey.
Today was the first game of the season for Quinn, even though Quinn had played hockey for most of his life, he couldn't help but be scared to step on the ice for his first college game. The nerves are getting the best of him as they line up, ready to headout on the ice for warm ups.
The first push on the ice takes away Quinn's voice as he looks around the arena at all of the fans in the crowd, his eyes glimmering with excitement as he takes it all in. his heart stops for a moment when he sees you standing in the stands with his family, dressed in his jersey, holding up a sign that says “number 43 is my favorite!”. Holding it high above you head, a wide smile breaking at across your face as look down at him skating on the ice.
A smile spreads upon Quinn's face, as he looks at you and his family. At that moment he really wanted to kiss you.
2.
Quinns hands were shaking as he tried to tie his tie, his mind was everywhere else but where it needed to be. It was the day of the NHL draft, a night that would change the rest of his life and his families. He couldn't help but feel almost sick at the thought of moving to a new state or country, leaving everything and everyone he loved behind, including you.
After five attempts of trying to tie his tie, he dramatically sighs, dropping his hands away from his chest. Staring at himself in the mirror trying to peace himself together, coaching himself to take deep breaths. Just as he starts to tie his tie again, he hears a soft knock on the hotel door.
His mom had already ushered everyone out of the room around 30 minutes ago, telling everyone to give him some space. Quinn couldn't help but be annoyed at the fact that someone already was knocking on the other side of the door. Making his way to the door, his brain already settled on whoever was on the other side of the door a bit of hell for disturbing him.
Opening the door slowly he sees you standing in the hallway, with a small smile on your way as you look at him. All of the anger he had harbored in him, immediately disappears when he sees you.
“Hi, i'm sorry to interrupt but i thought i'd just come check on you” she says
“You weren't interrupting anything, thank you for coming and checking on me.'' Quinn says, pausing for a second clearing his throat.
“I actually could use a bit of help, i can't tie my tie.” he says a little embarrassed
“I can help, if you let me in your room, or we can stand here in the hallway whatever works best for you” yn giggles out.
“Oh shit, i'm sorry come in '' he quickly says, his face heating with embarrassment. Yn quickly walks into the room, quinn shutting the door behind her.
“Sit on the bed” she quietly says to him, quinn doesn't need to be told twice when it comes to her, taking a seat on the soft bed, leaving his legs slightly open, allowing you to stand in between them as she works on his tie.
Their faces and bodies are so close together, his eyes catching hers for a moment. In that moment he wanted nothing more than to pull her on top of him and forget about the draft, forget about his future. Because at that moment, he really really wanted to kiss you.
3.
Quinn woke up to a constant banging on his front door, rolling on his side to see that the clock on his bed side table read, 3 a.m. “who the fuck is knocking on my door at 3 a.m?” Quinn thought to himself. Quinn trudging pulls himself out of bed, walking slowly downstairs hearing another round of knocking once he reaches the bottom of the stairs.
Finally reaching his front door, he doesn't even bother looking through the peephole before opening the door. Opening the door he's met with a rain soaked yn on his front porch with flowers in her hand and a suitcase at her side. Quinn thinks he's dreaming as he looks at her, still half asleep.
“You know i think i forgot how much it rains in vancouver during the summer, as you can see im soaked” yn chuckles out. “Also how dare you not tell me you were being named captain, I'm very upset that I had to find out through an instagram post. But I'll get over that because I missed you, so I flew all of the way here to surprise you.”
“OH! These flowers are for you” she says, holding out the slightly weeping flowers in front of her.
“I promise they looked better, the rain…ruined them” she says smiling sadly at him.
“I'm so sorry i woke you up with the banging, my phone died and i don't have a key-”
Quinn quickly cuts her rambling off by pulling her into the tightest hug known to man, spinning her around, as if he never wants to let her go.
“I'm so happy you're here” quinn says, as he sets her down, his arms wrapped around her.
“I'm so happy I'm here too.” yn says, looking up at quinn, he can see something in her eyes, love maybe? He’s not sure, but what he is sure of is that he really wants to kiss her, and it's killing me everyday that he hasn't.
4.
They lost. They lost. They lost in game seven, their playoff run was over. All of their blood, sweat and tears couldn't help them win this game. Quinn couldn't help but let the weight of loss fall on his shoulders as they skate off the ice. The walk to the locker room felt like an eternity. The room is quiet as the players strip out of their gear. He couldn't help but let a few tears fall as he got undressed. Feeling like he let his team, his family, the fans down.
Quinns mind couldn't focus during the press conference, giving the reporters one to two sentence answers. He didn't want to be there, he wanted to think about anything else other than hockey. He wanted to cry alone, he wanted the voices in his head to stop, he didn't want to be here.
After the press wraps up, Quinn quickly grabs his things heading out the locker room, as he turns the corner he sees you sitting against the wall, quickly turning your head when you hear footsteps down the hall, making eye contact.
Quinn had completely forgotten where even at the game, the loss of the game, completely taking over his mind.
“Yn, what are you still doing here?” he asks as he reaches her, offering her a hand to get off the ground.
Wordlessly she takes his hand, pulling his bag out of his other hand placing it on the ground below them. Before wrapping her hands around his neck pulling him down into a hug, Quinn's arms instantly wrapping around her waist, his body melting into hers. His face resting in her neck as he feels tears fall out of his eyes, as he clings to her body.
They stand like this for a few minutes, quinn’s tears finally settling before yn pulls back, running her fingers under quinns eyes wiping away his tears.
“I'm so proud of you, win or lose. I'm so so so proud of you Quinn, please never forget that '' she says, holding his face in between her hands.
“I love you” quinn mumbles out as he begins to cry again.
“I love you more” she says, “now let's get you out of here, i think you need one of gina's world famous burgers hm?” she says, grabbing his bag from the floor. Holding her hand out for him to grab, Quinn doesnt waste a second before sliding his hand into her as they head towards the exit.
Quinns head is no longer filled with thoughts about the game, about hockey. It's filled with thoughts about you, about how much he loves you, and how badly he wants to kiss you.
+1.
Quinn can't count on his hands how many times he's been to the lake house during the summer, but each time he does it better than the year before. Making new memories with the people who he loves, making new memories with you.
Quinn insisted that you come to the lake house with him a week before everyone else did, he wanted to spend as much time with you before everyone else got here, and you couldn't say no to that.
So this brings you to where you guys are now, sitting on the boat in the middle of the lake, watching as the sun sets across the sky. The sky casting hues of pinks and purples across the lake. Quinn couldn't help but look at you as you stare at the scene around you, seeing you look so relaxed and at peace, he couldn't help but smile.
“I can feel you staring at me” yn giggles out, still looking at the lake in front of her.
“I was just taking in the scenery” he says
“Mhm, and that just happens to be my face?” she says, turning to look at him with a smile that matches his on her face.
“Maybeee” quinn playfully says.
“Well it's creepy so stop it” she says playfully rolling her eyes at him
“And what if I don't?” he asks
“I'll feed you to the sharks”
“Pretty girl there isn't any sharks out here” quinn says laughing at her
“Stop laughing at me” she says, sending a quick shove to quinns shoulder, causing him to fall back against boat.
“Oh that's it” quinn days before launching himself at her, pinning her down before his hands start to attack her sides.
“ QUINN PLEASE NO” she pleads out to him as he tickles her. Laughs fell from both of their lips as they attacked each other.
“I CAN'T BREATH” yn laughs out as Quinn tickles the skin behind her neck, knowing its sweet spot. Deciding to give in to her pleas, he stops his attack on her neck. Her chest rising steadily as he looks down at her, her lips slightly parted, the plump skin almost looks like its calling is name.
Before he knows what he’s doing, he slowly lowers his face closer to hers, softly connecting their lips together in a sweet kiss. Yn kisses him back almost instantly, her hands wrapping around his neck pulling him closer to her. The once soft kiss turned hot and desperate quickly, a tension they've been dancing around for years, as finally broken like a dam, and neither of them wanted to stop.
Neither of them wants to pull away, but the need for air begs them too, Quinn pulling away first causing you to whine at the loss of contact. Looking at her with swollen lips and love filled eyes.
“I've wanted to do that for awhile” quinn says
“How long?” she asks as he works hard with the hair on the bottom of his neck.
“Ever since i saw you for the first time”
“Quinn we were five” she laughs
“I knew what I wanted at five,” he laughs, pushing a piece of hair out of her face. “And i've known that i've always wanted you” he finishes
“I love you” yn says
“I love you more” he replies
“I don't think you do” yn quips back
“Let me show you how much i do” quinn says before connecting their lips back together, because at that moment quinn wanted to kiss you, and this time he did.

2024, MARCH
YOUR ALARM went off at half past five, and you grunted, smacking it with your right hand, trying to make it stop yelling.
After you turned it off, you laid your bed on your pillow again, sighing. Turning your head to the side, you watched as Bella snored like she paid all of your bills and worked a nine to five everyday. You smiled, happy to see her so relaxed.
You got up, put on your slippers and walked to your bathroom, turning on the lights and regretting immediately after, because your eyes took a long time to adjust to the bright, white light.
You opened the tap, putting in warm water and gently wetting your face, before closing it and grabbing your cleanser and starting your morning skincare routine.
Even though you loved to stay in bed, there was something about the early hours of the day. You could go on with your morning with no one bothering you, just working on the steps of completing your morning routine with ease, while the world was still asleep outside— even though Los Angeles never got entirely asleep.
You can wash your face and apply your moisturizer, before stepping in the shower after letting your skin absorb the products. Then, you can scrub your body and exfoliate it, humming to this week’s top song on Spotify charts. You can dry yourself with your fluffiest towel, smear your skin with your favorite vanilla scented body lotion and perfume.
Then, you can wake Bella up, and force her to leave your bed so you can make it. She’ll growl and bark at you, but in the end she’ll be too eager to go outside to do anything else.
You’ll change into your outfit of the day, something cozy, and grab your keys before leaving the house with Bella by your side, taking her to the dog park your apartment complex has, and let her enjoy the synthetic grass while you stare at her, smiling from ear to ear.
You’ll both stay there for ten minutes, with you talking to her about everything and anything, while she sniffs around the place and answers your yapping with occasional barks.
Then, you’ll call her name and go back to your place, starving for food. You’ll make your breakfast, nothing too heavy— a cup of green tea and a yogurt bowl.
You’ll leave your house at sometime around seven a.m., after grabbing everything you’ll need for the day and saying goodbye to Bella, telling her that her dog sitter, Carly, will be there in just a few hours. You’ll get into the car your agency sent to you, greeting the driver and sitting in the back, checking the texts on your phone. And then, you will feel your heart stop inside your chest, because—

What the hell does she want? You thought, squeezing your phone so hard between your hands that, for a second, you thought you’d actually break it.
You haven’t seen your mom in a year. Or your family, for that matter. Your parents, your brother and Canada felt just like a distant, hurtful memory that you wanted to keep away from yourself, buried deep inside your heart.
After making your teenage years feel like hell, and after making you hate yourself in more ways you’d ever think possible, your mom got you signed at the most prestigious modeling agency in all LA, IMG Models. Some people online talked about how you were only the cover of last year’s VOGUE because you’re basically a Nepo Baby, and even though your social media team did their best to debunk those comments, you knew— everyone did— that they were right: you only reached the top that fast because you are the daughter of the editor-in-chief of Fashion and retired model, Jessica Carter.
Not that you weren’t pretty, no, you were. But your last name opened more doors for you than your face and body ever would.
But at the end, you were grateful to be living a normal life— as normal as it could get— away from Canada. That country held painful memories and people that you would much rather watch from afar.
You didn’t reply to her text, you didn’t need to. She made it very clear that your attendance wasn’t an option. Even at twenty-two years old, your mom would always have the final word.
You arrived on set ten minutes after reading that text, sad to have your good mood ruined. But you still had a long day of work ahead of you, so you should just do what you’re best at: pretending you’re fine.
You spent your entire morning at a photoshoot for Elle, posing for infinite pictures and changing as fast as you could, while trying your hardest not to focus on your mom’s text.
Glad to be working with people who were actually nice, you slipped into your work headspace and when you checked your phone again, it was lunch time.
Grabbing the biggest salad from the agency’s restaurant, you ate with no hunger or pleasure. Thinking of your life back in Canada made you sick.
After lunch, you were sent to another location so they could take more pictures of you, the photographer, Garret, making sure to get the right photos of you.
At six, you were ready to head back to home, but unfortunately, part of your job meant interacting with people on social media. Sometimes answering questions online, making TikToks or even posting on Instagram.

“ARE YOU leaving already, darlin’?”
Nicholas’ voice echoed as you bend over to grab your purse.
Looking at him, you smiled, tiredly. “Yes, hum. Actually, I need to talk to you about something,” you took a step further, stopping in front of the man you've known as your boss the past four years.
“Yeah, go ahead.” He leaned against the wall, waiting.
“I need to have Friday off,” you started, biting your lip. “It’s a family thing. Promise I’ll be back on Monday.”
“Madison, you’re literally the only model here who hasn’t missed a work day for an entire year, maybe even more than that,” he laughs, blond hair moving as his head turns around. “If you want to take the entire week off, you’re allowed to.”
A week in Toronto? No, thank you.
“No, I just need Friday.” You replied, adjusting your bag on your shoulder.
“You’re free to go, my love. Send kisses to your mom, okay? Tell her to visit us sometime.”
“Of course, thank you.” You kissed his cheek quickly before heading back to the elevator.
On your way home, you thought about all of the things your mom might want of you. Sure, she said that she wanted the family to get together and all of that, but you’re sure there’s more to that. She wouldn’t make you fly to Canada just because she wants to have dinner with you. She’s just not that kind of person.
Entering your apartment, the first thing you did after removing your shoes was go looking for Bella, who had somehow managed to lock herself inside the guest's bathroom, and was whining loudly.
“Naughty, naughty girl,” you kissed her, petting her fur gently. “How did you even do that?”
She just licked you and you sighed, the long hours of work finally hitting you completely. You just needed to shower, drink your daily glass of warm milk and play with Bella for a while before going to bed.
Locking away all thoughts related to Canada, you followed your night routine like you’d usually do, trying your hardest to let the people you buried years ago stay away like you wanted them to.

So if you have any questions or ideas, don't hesitate to send them to me! PART OF THE SWISS LOVE CHARM AU
“I’m home!” Ainsley calls out when she pushes the door to their apartment open and walks in. “Freya?” she calls out when she doesn’t hear her daughter’s giggles. “Quinn!?” Nothing. Suspiciously, she walks into the living room, looking into every corner to ensure neither Freya nor Quinn is jumping on her.
“Where the hell are they?” she whispers to herself as she walks into the kitchen. She sighs when she notices the still-warm food on the stove. She looks under the lid, grinning when she sees risotto. Furthermore, she leaves for her bedroom with a satisfied hum, ready to change into her home clothes.
Shutting the door behind her, she pulls out her phone and turns on her songs so she can change.
“Oh, my gosh!” she yells when she spots Quinn’s head poking from under the bed, same with Freya’s. Ainsley’s hands fly up to her heart, trying to catch her breath and slow her heartbeat.
Freya’s laugh rings through the room as she and Quinn shuffle from under the bed, laughing their asses off. She stares at them in pure disbelief. “What the hell, guys?”
“Got you, mama!” Freya laughs, jumping around her legs.
“Good one, Fre!” Quinn laughs, reaching his hand out for her to high-five him. He then looks back at you, bursting into another set of laughs when he sees her expression. “You good?”
“No,” she shakes her head, chuckling. “I think my heart will jump out of me.” This makes Freya laugh even more.“You are silly, mommy.” Freya shakes her head at her mom. “Your heart can’t leave your body.” With that, she jumps on Ainsley’s bed.
“You siwwy, Mommy!” Freya shakes her head at her mom. She jumps on her bed, bouncing on it. “Dat’s ’possbull!”
“Oh, really, smarty-pants?” Ainsley asks and swiftly moves towards her, tickling her. Loud shrieks and laugh sounds fill the room as Ainsley and Quinn are now attacking Freya with kisses and tickling.
“Stwap! Pwease!” she yells between laughs, kicking her legs and swinging her hands, trying to brace herself from the ticklish attack.
“Okay, okay,” Quinn and Ainsley say in unison, making Freya giggle at them. “I’ve missed you, baby,” Ainsley whispers in Freya’s tummy.
“I, too, mommy.”
“What about me?” Quinn asks.
“I’ve missed you too! Quinnifer.” She grins at him, kicking him in his shin.
“Auch,” he places his hand on his chest, offended. “Excuse me.”
Ainsley just grins before giving her attention back to Freya. “What do you say about a mother-daughter and auntie Amber date?”
“So cool!” she shouts in excitement.
“And what about me?” Quinn pouts.
“You stay here, unco,” Freya says, pointing her little finger at the bed.
“Well, you can go out with the boys,” Ainsley suggests.
“Yeah, I guess, a beer or two won’t kill me.”
The bell rings when Ainsley, Freya, and Amber enter the café. The eyes of customers move to the sound, landing on the three women entering. The lady behind the counter smiles at them as she wipes it clean.
Ainsley smiles back, nodding a polite greeting as she leads Freya and Amber to a cozy booth in the corner. The café is quiet this afternoon, the soft hum of conversation blending with the background music. Ainsley slides into the booth first, her daughter quickly following her, while Amber sits across from them.
Freya's eyes widen as she scans the menu on the wall. “Mommy, hot chokit!” she exclaims, bouncing in her seat.
Ainsley chuckles. “Of course, sweetheart. And what else do you want?” she asks, already knowing the answer.
“Cake!” Freya giggles, her hands waving excitedly.
Amber grins, teasing. “Well, looks like someone’s going to have a sugar rush.”
“Not if you don’t tell her she can have anything more,” Ainsley teases back. Amber shrugs, raising an eyebrow in mock innocence.
“You’re the mom,” Amber replies with a smile. “You’re the one who has to deal with it later.”
Ainsley laughs, shaking her head. “I guess so. But I can’t say no to that face.”
Freya gives her a wide-eyed look of pure innocence, and Ainsley nods, her heart softening. “Alright, alright. One hot chocolate and a cake for the little one. But I’m getting coffee,” Ainsley says, her voice trailing off as she looks at Amber, who’s already holding the menu to decide on her order.
“So,” Amber starts, setting the menu down after a moment of thought, “How’s everything going? How’s Nico?”
Ainsley’s smile grows a bit at the mention of Nico’s name. She sits more comfortably and reaches for her bag to pull out some of Freya’s toys. “Things have been great. The date was awesome. It was adorable knowing that Nico thought about Freya.” She smiles at Amber, playing with her toys as she speaks.
“He was the first, right?” she asks, her attention on Freya playing with her toys.
“The fi-” Ainsley asks in confusion, but quickly gets it. “Yeah, he was. He was so kind to her, Amber.”
“I could tell from what this little rebel told me,” Amber smirks, bumping Freya’s nose. “Right? You like Nico?”
“Gwizzly?” She looks around as if she is searching for him. Ainsley watches her, her heart melting while her chest tightened at the same time. She is glad her daughter liked him, because, let’s be honest, she does too, but doesn't want to admit it. But a big part of her is afraid that he might break their hearts if this ‘something’ between them doesn't work out.
“No, baby, he’s not here,” she chuckles, smoothing her wild hair. “Untie Amber was asking if you had fun in the gallery with him.” She brings her on her lap when she notices the waiter reaching them to take their order.
“Hello ladies, what can I get for you?” She looks between Amber and Ainsley. With a nod towards Amber, Ainsley started.
“Hi. I’d like to have one hot chocolate, blueberry chocolate cake, if you have,” she looks up in question.
“Yes, we have this one. Do you want extra whipped cream?”
“Rather not,” she chuckles, bouncing the knee where Freya sits, earning a giggle from her. “And one chai latte.”
“Okay, what about you, ma’am?” the waiter then shifts her attention to Amber.
“I’d like frappé and carrot cake, please.”
“I’ll be right back, ladies.”
“Thank you,” Amber smiles before her attention shifts back to Ainsley. “Will you give him a chance?” Ainsley looks down at Freya, who is now playing with her bunny.
She breathes out, looking up at Amber. She really is not sure if she should, but Nico proved that he is different from the others.
“Yeah, I guess I will,” she breathes out, looking back into Amber’s eyes. “I mean it’s time to open up finally.”
“I am so proud of you, Ziggy.”
“Thank you.”
An hour later, Amber must leave, so Ainsley decided to take Freya to a playground near their apartment to tire Freya off. It has been a while since they came here, even though it is a ten-minute walk away.
“Higher, mommy!” Freya yells as she holds tightly to the ropes of the swing.
“Not so high, baby,” she chuckles, but still pushes her lightly. “Don’t want you to fall down.”
Freya screeches from excitement, kicking her legs as she swings.
“Baby, can I ask you something?”
Freya nods her head, still giggling as she helps with her legs to swing higher. Ainsley chuckles at her, feeling happy for the little girl being this excited to be on a swing.
It will probably sound weird, but she doesn’t want Freya to be like these iPad kids. She wants her to enjoy being outside, playing on the beach and park like she did when she was younger.
“Do you like Nico?” Her eyes remain on her, watching if her expression changes somehow at the mention of his name.
“Gwizzly funny. I yike him!” she giggles, when Ainsley pushes her legs lightly to make her swing higher. “You yike him?” she asks back, looking at her mom with her big blue eyes.
The question takes Ainsley back for a second. She never realizes that her daughter might understand what is going on. “Yeah, mommy likes Nico.”
“There you two are!” Quinn’s voice sounds from behind them about half an hour later.
Ainsley jerks her head in Quinn’s direction, smiling when she sees his figure. “Hi.” She tilts her head to the side, waiting for Quinn to kiss her cheek.
“How was the date?” he asks next to her on the bench. His gaze moves to where Freya is playing with her bunny, completely ignoring the world around her.
“It was great. Freya was a sweetheart, and I got to talk about some things with Amber, which helped a lot.” she smiles, resting her head against his shoulder.
Quinn just hums in response, wrapping his hand around her shoulders and kissing the top of her head. He is happy for his twin sister. She hasn’t been this happy in a long time, and seeing her glow and laugh like this for the past few months makes him happy. Even though he doesn’t want to admit it, he knows the reason for her happiness is Nico.

In The Water | Luke Hughes

summary: Luke has had a wandering eye for you all week so when he gets you in the pool one night it’s finally his turn to have some fun.
request: yes/no
warnings: sexual themes, p in v, swearing.
word count: 1.69k
authors note: I’ve been waiting to write this for weeks! It was fun writing the Luke x Quinn bsf pairing cause it means all I need to do is a Quinn x Luke bsf pairing then I’ve done all of the brother and friend pairings! Part of me is also starting to think that I’ve forgotten how to write smuts because I really don’t know how I feel about this one…
Luke thought the world was being cruel to him.
Originally he was fine when he heard that Quinn was bringing a girl to the lake house. But the moment he met you that idea quickly changed when he realised it was you.
The youngest Hughes boy didn’t know you from a bar of soap but watching you walk around in shorts and your little bikini top with Quinn’s tigers hat on your head made him feel some kind of way.
His speculations that something was going on between you and Quinn weren’t so wrong either, being neighbours in Vancouver you two learnt how to lean on each other during the pandemic and that sometimes resulted in sexual interactions between you two. But your little fuck buddy time together was a mere moment in your relationship and the last time you had gotten on your knees for the Hughes boy was well over a year ago.
But the level of banter that you two seemed to gain from having gone that far.
Quinn was fast asleep as you slipped out of the bed next to him letting your feet take you downstairs as you realised the light outside was still on.
Curiosity got the best of you and you were glad that it did as you walked out to see Luke in the pool.
His back muscles were defined as he would extend his arms with each stroke before he brought them back to his sides “I can feel you staring at me.” Luke mumble stretching his arms as he let his fingers press on the wall in front of him never taking this eyes off of the water.
You took this as a moment to walk up to him letting your legs down into the water as you sat on the side a couple of feet away from him “got a lot to stare at.” You shrugged sending him a smile as you weren’t going to hide that you were indeed looking at him “would have thought you’d want a closer look.” His smirk was clear as he finally looked up to see your eyes staring at him.
Taking in how his curls were wet as water droplets fell against his skin felt like a sight for sore eyes “where is the fun in just giving it to you Rusty?” You raised your eyebrows mentally letting out a silent cheer as Luke listened to you.
His fingers let go of the wall before he slowly swam over to you settling between your legs as he pushed your knees wider apart “think it’s unfair having you on a higher level than me.” Luke frowned as he let his hands run up your legs “can’t be getting Quinn’s shirt wet.” You shot back irritatingly reminding the younger boy about his thoughts of what Quinn must have done to you.
The hockey player ran his tongue over his lower lip “could just get you out of it.” It was the obvious option but the way it nervously came out of his mouth made you smirk “never thought of that one before.” You brought your hands to the hem of the shirt before you pulled it over your head revealing the skimpy little lingerie set that you decided to wear underneath it.
His swim shorts grew tight around his cock as his eyes trailed over your breasts with nipples barely covered by the black lacy fabric of the bra “fucking hell.” Luke mumbled under his breath taking in the sight as his eyes stared at the left nipple as he realised that you had pierced it.
The shiny titanium bar clearly stuck out as you pushed yourself off of the bricks that lined the pool slotting yourself between Luke and the wall as you smiled “you like what you see Hughesy?” You asked letting your fingers run down his abs as you innocently batted your eyelashes at him.
Luke swore that he was a deadman walking as he watched you look at him like he was the only man in the world “it’s all perfect.” His hands ran over your jaw as he tilted it up letting you look at him “like a fucking goddess.” The boy added bringing his lips down to yours.
You wanted to push onto your toes as his lips against yours and the boy smiled at your desperation “what do you want princess?” Luke smirked as you brought your hands up to hold his.
The hockey player watched as you let your lips form a pout “just fucking kiss me already Luke.” Your complaint was short lived when he captured your lips in a kiss.
It was hot as his tongue ran over your lower lip wanting to slide it into your mouth “please,” you whined feeling his bulge against your core “you sure?” Luke pulled away with big eyes full of concern “I don’t have a condom-” he added as he didn’t even have one upstairs and going into either of his brothers rooms to get one was just asking for a disaster to strike.
You pecked the boys lips wanting him to shut up “I’m on the pill and clean,” your tone was suggestive as he smiled “I am too.” Luke nodded as his heart practically pounded out of his chest “come and get me baby.” You mumbled into his ear before you pushed him away trying to swim away as you wanted to tease him.
Luke took a mere few seconds to reach out and grab your foot as he pulled you towards him “I don’t like chasing.” The hockey player muttered as his hands moved to your bra unhooking the back of it.
He wrapped his hands around your legs as he picked you up “have your way with me Lukey.” You smiled as he dropped his head to your pierced nipple.
His mouth wrapped around the sensitive peak “fuck Lu,” you cried as his tongue swirled around your piercing “you’re so good,” you cooed totally unaware of how each cry that left your lips went straight to his cock.
Your fingers locked into his curls as Luke brought his hand up to your other nipple making sure that it wouldn’t feel left out “I want you cock Luke.” You blurted out making him smile as he pulled away from your breasts “let’s get you out of these then.” Before you both knew it there was a wet mound of clothing that sat next to the pool as Luke ran his fingers over your stomach.
It was almost sweet as he backed you up against the wall “you sure you want this?” Luke asked you as his hands went to either side of you “yes Luke.” You nodded softly kissing his lips as he brought his cock up between your legs teasing your clit “shit!” You groaned as his cock slid down your slit before he trusted into your cunt.
Luke’s hands gripped at your sides as you adjusted to his size “move, please.” You gritted out making him nod “can’t believe how good you feel.” Luke blurted out as your picks moved up to wrap around his waist “been thinking about this all week.” He added making you smile through hooded eyes.
His breath fanned against your skin as you brought your hands up to lock in his hair again “should have made a move sooner.” You gritted your words out as your pussy clenched around his cock.
The hockey player nipped at your neck “can’t have hickies.” You shook your head “like my bikini.” The reminder of the tiny pieces that you wore made Luke smirk “want the boys to know you had a good time.” Trevor had been trying to flirt with you since the moment he arrived so this all was doing absolute wonders for Luke’s ego.
Water was pushed around you both as mini waves formed with each thrust of the boys cock “Luke-” your complaint was cut off as his hand slipped in between you both reaching down to your clit “oh my god!” You slapped your hand over your mouth as his cock began to throb between your legs.
Luke shook his head pulling your hand away “it’s just me baby.” He smiled pecking your lips “boys so asleep they won’t hear you.” The boy added knowing that each of the boys in the house were not going to be coming outside regardless of if they heard your moans or not.
Your legs tightened around his waist “I’m not gonna last.” You confessed letting your hands pinch at your breasts.
It made Luke smirk at how he knew he was making you feel “let it go baby.” The hockey player nodded pecking your lips as he wasn’t far behind “let anyone out here hear how good I make you feel.” He added sucking at your earlobe as you cried out.
It was hot watching you come around his cock as you body shook showing him just how good he made you feel as you brought your hips to grind against his bringing Luke’s orgasm on in the process “don’t stop.” You moaned letting your head fall back as he continued to fuck you through your orgasm.
As you both came back down your breaths were heavy “that was hot.” You blurted out smiling as you pecked his lips when he slid his cock out of you “you think you can survive for another one?” Luke asked as he watched you make your way over to the other side of the pool “it’s getting late.” You sighed motioning to the sun that was starting to rise over the water as you pushed out of the water letting droplets run down your naked body.
Luke smirked as he watched you pull Quinn’s top over you “both need a shower before we go to bed.” The boy loved how the grey fabric clung to your wet breasts “grab those clothes and meet me up there.” You smiled as he sent you a salute pushing off of the wall to the other side of the pool before he followed your wet footprints into the house.
