I am sleep deprived and my mind is a mess so this might not make a whole lot of sense. Esp if you're not familiar with the musical. Do not expect greatness cause you wont find it lol

The story begins not with Pete or Vegas but with Porsche because he is Christine in this au. He joins the Opera House owned by idk.. Italians or something, as a dancer. All the bodyguards are ballet dancers in this universe (imagine Big as a ballet dancer and cry with me). They’re trained by Chan (madame Giry. Fits perfectly if you ask me). Porsche quickly becomes best pals with a fellow dancer Pete, they might even live together like in the show.

The Phantom is obviously Vegas. He has the mask and everything cause his asshole dad mutilated him when he was a kid and made him join the circus to earn money. It’s all very tragic and sad really. He spends years being laughed at till one day he’s done with it. He kills his dad and escapes. I’m imagining rain and thunder and tears and then finally peace and quiet that he finds in the basement of an old opera house. He puts on the mask & becomes the Phantom over several years, spending his days tormenting the owners of the opera and writing music in his dungeons. Living his best life lol

Back to the present. One day as Vegas is wandering the hallways like the creep he is, he hears Porsche singing and gets inspired. He is like omg I can make that man a star and make him sing my music. (Also the current primadonna sucks and their singing makes Vegas’ head hurt… lets say it’s Tawan cause we hate him lol. Vegas has been trying to get rid of the bastard for a while now) It’s going great - Porsche is easy to manipulate cause of his childlike dreams of an angel of music that his dead father (or mother?) would send him. Also Porsche is hot and kind and Vegas is kinda delulu for him. He hasn’t had any human contact for years and he is desperate for some love. Porsche gives him a taste of it cause he thinks Vegas is an angel so he speaks with affection to him. Porsche’s bestie Pete notices something is off and keeps an eye out but doesn’t do anything for now, cause Porsche seems to be doing well even if he’s acting a lil weird. Also who could imagine the reality of the situation lol. Pete does see more than the rest tho, he has seen Vegas in the shadows before, but he doesn't connect the dots. Yet.

Then out of nowhere the Italians decide to sell the opera house to Tankhun. Yes Tankhun cause imagine him running an opera. And Arm or something cause he needs a partner. Oh maybe Tay? Idk this needs more thought than I’m capable of at the moment. Anyways.. Vegas is mad cause Tankhun is even worse at running the opera than the previous owners. Even so he does manage to get rid of Tawan and get Porsche on stage, but then fucking KINN shows up and is like hot diggity dog.. Porsche is hot and I love him and Porsche loves him back (they are childhood friends like Christine and Raoul), which simply makes Vegas lose his last marble. He’s been spending months at this point teaching and seducing Porsche and it's taken a lot of work to get Porsche on stage and he’s not about to let Kinn steal him so he goes and kidnaps him (porsche). Takes him to his dungeon and tries to convince him that life there with him could be kinda nice. Cause look at all the good he's done for him. Porsche is listening till his curiosity wins and he tears Vegas' mask off and is disgusted much like Christine the first time she saw the Phantom’s face. Vegas is hurt and lets him go. Convinces himself that Porsche just needs more time, that he just needs to try a little harder. That he has to work more to get that love that he craves.

Porsche is traumatised after the kidnapping. Pete is worried, he sees that something is really wrong even though Porsche doesn't tell him what exactly happened. Kinn is an oblivious idiot, who at this point only cares about this Phantom dude sending everyone threatening notes lol. He and Tankhun decide to disobey everything Vegas is asking for and let Tawan back on stage which leads to no good. Vegas snaps and kills someone. Porsche runs to the rooftop, Kinn follows, they confess to each other and kiss and Vegas’ heart breaks and he brings down the chandelier.

Pete our best boy who has been watching everything go down from the sidelines is like ok this has turned from weird to FUCKED & he decides to investigate. Cause he is a sneaky lil guy and doesn’t like it when his friends get hurt for no good reason. He takes it upon himself to go find this opera ghost and stop him. He finds the entrance to the dungeons behind Porsche’s mirror and goes down there. In the dungeon he is greeted by a very sad scene of Vegas crying his heart out. What a pathetic creature. Except the creature is insane and once he notices and catches Pete he ties him up and spews all his anger and sadness on him. Vegas thinks Pete is a nobody whom no one will miss (and sadly he’s somewhat right) (but Vegas does know who Pete is cause he knows everything) and decides to keep him there to torment while he wallows in his sadness. Very unfortunately the rest of the opera don’t even notice Pete is gone (they’re too busy fixing things and getting their shit back together and Porsche is too busy with Kinn). After a few days of silence they’re thinking - finally we pissed off the phantom so much that he left. When in reality Vegas is planning his revenge. Pete is trying his best to convince him to leave Porsche alone cause obviously Porsche doesn’t like him back but Vegas being the man he is can not let his grudge go. And even though he doesn’t even like Porsche much anymore (cause his heart is opening up to someone else), he wants to take revenge on Kinn.

There’s mad tension between VP. Pete isn’t afraid of what's underneath Vegas’ mask because he has his own scars too. Both physical and emotional. They do share asshole fathers in every universe. They bond over it. And Vegas gets a glimpse under Pete's mask when he notices the way Pete reacts to him and his anger. Something inevitably does happen between them but it doesn't lead to any good because Vegas still thinks he is unlovable (boy thinks love has to be earned and is going about it in all the wrong ways) and he is obsessed with his revenge plot; and Pete our dear Pete thinks Vegas is in love with Porsche cause he thinks himself unlovable too.

The masquerade happens (oh imagine how happy Tankhun would be to throw this party), Vegas crashes it and promises to bring everything down unless they perform his opera. Realising all his efforts to change Vegas' mind have been in vain and Vegas still cares more abt Porsche than him, Pete escapes to go warn his friends about his actual plans. In a way he also rejoins the masquerade when he returns to his life. There is much to be said about masks and stuff in this au but again - my brain has not the capacity to do it rn. Finding out Pete is gone makes Vegas even madder cause he does feel things for him even if he's in denial about it. Cause Pete is the only person ever to not flinch when Vegas looks at him. There's that kindness he's been looking for in Pete but he doesn't let himself see it.

Kinn comes up with his shit plan to catch the Phantom despite Pete’s arguments that it won’t work. The opera happens and everything goes to shit. Vegas once again kidnaps Porsche. Kinn shows up at the dungeon and gets almost killed. They are yelling at each other when Pete arrives. He overhears Vegas making Porsche choose between him and Kinn and he can't take it anymore. He goes all out along the lines of 'you stupid moron, I love you, i can't sing, I'm a shit dancer but I love you and why am I not enough???' Like why is Porsche the end goal here when he obviously hates Vegas? Vegas, Porsche and Kinn are dumbfounded at this. Vegas didn’t really believe that Pete would like him for real. but pete goes on about how vegas ripped pete's mask off and now he's gonna leave him stranded in this world when they could have something together and for what?? It takes vegas a moment to understand what's happening. Kinn uses the opportunity and shoots or stabs or whatever Vegas, takes Porsche and runs. Porsche asks Pete to come with them but he refuses. Kinn is a dick and he drags Porsche away. Pete holds Vegas very fairytale like, very tragic and beautiful. "Say you'll share with me one love, one life time, say the word and I will follow you.."

When the others come to the dungeon to get the phantom, they find it empty. Vegas and Pete have disappeared but they live. Away from all this, somewhere else. Maybe not happily ever after but they live.

Also korn doesnt exist in this universe cause fuck him

For starters, I really enjoy your art & the uniqueness of your au ❤️ As for my question:

Besides the interactions with just random humans & the occasional Spike Witwicky. Is there any other humans in your au? Like Carly, Chip, Raul, and/or other human characters from other Transformer shows? I always thought more could be done with relationships like the one Tracks and Raoul had in G1 since that duo doesn’t get talked about much unlike Spike & Bumblebee. Same with Carly, a rather smart girl being able to hold her own against the Cons & gets along with many of the other Autobots was always something I like’d to see a little more of. Whether it be a gentle giant senario or just good friends and so on. Maybe even some cons having a friendship of sorts with a human or two. They all have to live among each other after all, of course not everyone can agree on liking the bots & cons, Mandroid for example. Lastly, other than interactions do you personally have any favorite human characters from any of the shows?

As far as humans go, I have a few planned, but they all need some more work on their characters. But I thought it’d be important to the story that both the Autobots and Decepticons have human friends. So even though there’s a lot of human bias against the Decepticons, there’s some characters who rightly seek out understanding. The plan is that Spike is a college student and him and a group of others from his college (a few friends and a few who just happen to attend the same school) end up hanging out with groups in both factions.

Spike hangs out with the Autobots at the main base. I have an idea for an aspiring sci-fi author who chills with the Aerialbots and Omega Supreme. An environmental scientist who ends up hanging out with the Stunticons. And a few others. The only one I have more figured out right now is the Insecticons’ human pal. They’re an art student, and they go by Kat. Because it’s short and sweet and they love cats. They end up helping Kickback out of some trouble and then start hanging out at the Hive more over time.

Also, my favorite human buddy is Spike because he’s just so clueless sometimes. What a guy.

in honor of read an e-book week, i'll be sharing sneak peeks of the rewrite's first short story collection (which will be an e-book exclusive out this spring)! next up is raoulstine and the mystery of love ;)

...

Christine and Raoul spent the afternoon at Bois de Boulogne. They snacked on a box of chocolates from Rousseau's (Their joint gift to each other!) while strolling down a tree-lined path.

"You're in love with me, right?" Christine asked. "Romantically, I mean?"

Raoul popped a chocolate in his mouth. "It depends. Most of the time I'm not, but…" He swallowed the chocolate. "Sometimes, this attraction comes over me. I look at you and think, 'Hey, she's pretty'. I feel it when we're close."

Christine touched her hip with his. "Like that?"

"No, there has to be a certain mood. Like when we danced at the masquerade or after coming home from the bistro. But when we're kissing each other in silly places..." Raoul paused to kiss Christine on the nose. "See, it's not there."

"Huh. And what does that attraction feel like?" Christine asked as they resumed walking.

"Oh, I don't know, it feels..." Raoul thought for a few moments. "Well, I don't know how to describe it."

I don't, either. Christine thought with a small sigh.

"I guess it feels like a magnet. I feel drawn towards you," Raoul chuckled. "Hey, that must be why they call it attraction!"

Christine couldn't help but chuckle as well. "It definitely is!"

"It's not a strong magnet, though. It's sort of weak. But that doesn't mean I don't love you! The romantic part isn't that strong."

"How funny," Christine said as Raoul handed her the chocolate box. "We're best friends, family and somewhat romantic at the same time."

"You feel attraction, too?"

Christine flushed midway through a bite of chocolate. "No, I was just talking about you. I… I've never felt romance before."

"Oh. Well, that's fine. You're lucky. Romance is a complicated thing!"

Christine gave the box back to Raoul, gazing at the foliage surrounding them as she thought, I've never felt romance, but what about actions? I don't mind Raoul seeing me in my underclothes, but most friends wouldn't dare to be seen like that! Come to think of it, Meg and I like to snuggle in bed. And I kiss Erik on the lips like it's nothing, Christine gasped. But those things can't be romantic! I-

"Are you okay?" Raoul asked.

Christine jerked her head to him. "Wha- Oh, yes, I'm fine," She paused before asking, "How do you know when you're... more than just friends?"

Raoul's ears turned pink. "Are you talking about us?"

"Sort of. Casually undressing in front of each other doesn't seem like something friends do."

"My navy pals and I did that all the time. Once you've known someone for a while, you become more comfortable around them."

"So it's not romantic? And neither is hugging in bed or kissing someone on the lips?"

Raoul ate a chocolate. "Not unless you make it."

I don't feel romance, I don't do it… Christine disappointedly bit into a chocolate. All I can do is dimly understand it.

Going to my personal continuity~

Our Texas Gal Tessa of, The baddest bitch with issues that desperately needs a hug. Due to her mom dying when she was 6 and her dad dying from a car accident protecting her, when she was 10. Being thrown under the care of her Uncle Lucas. She’s pretty much have trauma of losing her loved ones. She also has anger issues just like her dad. This made her seem as aggressive towards others. But in reality she’s just really scared of getting close to people and has a soft spot that is difficult to come out due to her attitude.

Second they’re Raoul (Design yet to made)

He’s a Puerto Rican, who works part time in a auto shop and often helps out his family. He’s an active person tending to parkour his way home. He’s still figuring what he wants to do in life. He’s sort of the cool big brother of the Trio (That consists of him, Tessa and Carly). But is reckless at times to get himself excited.

BEE MAN

Unlike other autobots Bumblebee does not miss Cybertron at all honestly. He was born when Cybertron was decaying when the Allspark vanished, plus he’s an insecticon so pre-war life might be hell for the lil dude. Prefers to live on earth most of the time. It’s nicer on Cybertron with the forest and life, humans are an issue but they can be managed (plus the bots have human pals). He’s more adjusted on earth then most of the bots due to roaming around for years before he finds the crashed Ark.

Not only do Evelyn Nesbit and Jean Harlow remind me of Sarah Brightman and Janet Devenish physically, but my head canons for Christine and Meg's career and personal trajectories are very similar to Nesbit and Harlow as well, but with hopefully happier conclusions.

Evelyn Nesbit was considered the greatest beauty and model of her day, inspiring Dana Gibson and taking the stage by storm. Yet much like poor Christine, Nesbit's life was derailed by manipulative men who preyed on her in her youth, and by a man's obsession with her which led to murder. Yet unlike Nesbit, Christine didn't marry a Harry Thaw but a Raoul de Chagny, and so hopefully she eventually finds comfort and contentment with family and home. Although her career would forever be shadowed by the events of her past, maybe a happier home life would enable her to another stage triumph, unlike Nesbit, whose life and career never fully recovered from the "trial of the century" scandal that followed Thaw's murder of White.

Jean Harlow was the first blonde bombshell, a tough modern woman with a heart of gold for newer audiences to latch on to. Like Meg, Harlow had a very close relationship with her mother, who tended to stake too much on her daughter's career and was always around, hovering. Although I see Madame Giry as being far more dignified about it, there is the potential that she pushes Meg too hard to make something of herself. Yet like we see in Meg throughout, Harlow didn't let familial and career pressures tarnish her naturally sunny disposition. Jean Harlow was everyone's pal, and that's how I see Meg. Like with Christine, I can only hope that Meg has a happier ending than Harlow, living past the brutally young age of 26.

why valentine de saint-bris, NOT raoul de nangis, is the protagonist of giacomo meyerbeer’s les huguenots (if there even is a singular protagonist):

because she is my baby

—aside from marcel and the comte de saint-bris, who are foils for each other but that is another post entirely, she experiences the most character growth of any of the characters

—her story is the story of an anxious, extremely sheltered young woman firmly entrenched on one side of a national conflict ending up not only in the middle of the conflict in more ways than one but also WILDLY changed as a person

—everyone fighting over her “honor” and “purity” and such marks the first major shift in the plot

—it also partially motivates her father to begin acting out in increasingly violent ways against raoul specifically and the huguenots in general

—and valentine has to decide how to respond, where her priorities lie, and what relationships and social mores she can keep up without betraying herself

—so she reaches out to marcel, which kickstarts HIS character development

—oh also she is the only one of the seven principal characters to have direct connections to all the others: nevers’ fiancée (later wife and widow), raoul’s beloved (later wife and then widow again…yeah it’s a lot), saint-bris’ daughter, marguérite’s best friend and favorite lady-in-waiting, and she’s pals with both urbain and marcel, the latter of whom eventually basically adopts her. so there’s that.

—the vast majority of valentine’s stage and character time comes after the opera’s expositional phase (acts one and two). she may not have a huge role in the lead-up, but she is all over the way the cards fall.

—the act four love duet is not ultimately about raoul and valentine’s doomed romance but about the ideological conflicts between religious dogma and duty as a whole, personal faith, love, and the horrific reality of the situation and what must be done about it, which is ALSO what valentine is struggling with the whole opera! raoul doesn’t struggle it with the same way—after the initial failed attempt to assimilate into (catholic) high society, he pretty quickly retreats and gets his priorities into order. valentine has a harder time.

—the penultimate twist of the drama, and the one that sets the whole tone and way the personal drama goes in act v, scene 2, is valentine’s conversion.

—the final twist of the drama, of course, is the murder of the leading trio. but we linger on valentine’s death the longest, the senseless tragedy of a young woman unknowingly being murdered by her own father. this is the personal tragedy we ultimately focus on inside the wider, very real public and historical tragedy (tragedy being used solely in a literary sense, for in terms of the actual sense of the thing, it would better be called an atrocity on all levels).

—and as i have previously discussed, she finds freedom and fulfillment—she finds herself—in a way that no one else does. her story is about breaking free of convention and dogma in the name of a higher, more human conception of living and of love. it’s literally in her name: valentine de saint-bris, literally “the patron saint of love from the house of holy-broken”.

7. tell us about the plot of the first fanfic you ever wrote

It is not, in fact, the story of of a repressed lemon cheerleader and a verbacious Broadway bound diva forced to kiss in a game of spin the bottle.

My first fanfic was in the Phantom of the Opera fandom, post film canon, in which Christine is equally obsessed with her Angel and can't be happy with Raoul, so goes back to the catacombs of the ruined opera house to search for Erik. In true tropey fanfic fashion, they give in to that unhealthy obsessive passion and Christine ends up with a little angel on the way. Erik learns to tame his temper, marries the girl, flees to England and gets a happy ending. There is also an equally tropey side plot of 'pair the spares' featuring Raoul and Meg Giry. In retrospect, I'm a little embarrassed by it, but it's still out there at FF.Net.

62. what’s the weirdest reason you’ve ever shipped something?

See above ship. Gerard Butler as the phantom made that whole fucked up obsessive thing sexy. Also, the score of the show just begs for gothic romance.

90. do you notice your own voice in your writing style?

I do. I try to write in the character's voices as much as possible but occasionally they'll say a phrase that I use or used to use in my younger years. I like to think I give those lines to characters that would also say them so it's not too out of character for them, but I still see myself in them.

Mostly, I notice my voice sneaking into the exposition with the little fandom in-jokes like the pressed lemons or the gal pals or references to the actors other roles. It's the meta baby.
