*This was written with the idea that reader is in her mid twenties, so there's an age gap between reader and Ray. Also I've not watched this movie lmao. Why do I do this? I DON'T KNOW!
Setting her bag down on the kitchen counter, (Y/n)'s hands drifted down to brush across her belly. Smiling when the baby girl inside gave a kick, and ignoring the pain that followed. "I know honey, you're missin' your daddy. So am I." She mused to her belly, happy to be back home and away from her latest hospital check up. But considering the lack of his car in the driveway, she knew Ray wasn't back yet, back with his brother Raymond, her godfather. "This is gonna be a long day." She sighed as she poured herself a glass of cold water, drinking nearly half of it before she felt satisfied. Setting the glass on the counter she licked her damp lips, taking notice of the sound of two car doors closing. Her shimmering eyes cast in the direction of the front door as it swung open, the sounds of Ray and Raymond's voices following as they entered the quiet home. Their voices drifted to the dining room, and (Y/n) steeled her nerves. "Here goes nothing." She murmured under her breath as she exited the kitchen and entered the dining room. The older men's eyes quickly cast to her as she entered, and she offered a smile with a small wave. "Hey guys." She hummed, her free hand still tracing her round belly absentmindedly.
"(Y/n) you're pregnant!" Raymond gawked at her, a small grin tugging at his lips at the sight of her round belly. "Yeah." She smiled sheepishly. "Who's the father?" Raymond asked after a moment, his smile faltering when she glanced nervously at his brother. "Wait why is she here?" Raymond turned his attention to Ray, who looked just as anxious as she did. "Well where else is she gonna go?" Ray countered, confirming Raymond's fear. "You did not have sex with my goddaughter!" Raymond's confusion had quickly turned to anger, glaring at his brother as if he was intent to kill him. "Um." Was all Ray could get out before Raymond repeatedly began shoving at his chest, Ray instinctively pushed back anticipating it to turn into a fight. "She's half your age!" Raymond hissed stepping back a little when Ray moved to hit him in the face, then giving him another shove before backing away again. "Enough stop it the both of you. You're both acting like children." (Y/n) put herself between them, her back to Ray as she intended on calming Raymond down.
"How could you do something like this?" Raymond asked addressing Ray, who in turn scowled. "Excuse me, I can make my own decisions. Thank you very much." (Y/n) cut in, her fingers lacing with Rays when he grabbed her hand. "But-But him!?" Raymond stammered in frustration. "And what's wrong with him huh?" She glared now at her godfather. "He's not good enough for you!" Raymond shouted as if it were obvious, and she simply wasn't seeing it. "I'll decide who's good enough for me, not you." She turned to Ray, her eyes softening at the look shimmering in his eyes, clearly hurt by what Raymond had said. "He's more than good enough for me, he's perfect." (Y/n) murmured as she looked into his eyes, her words only making Raymond scoff. "He's a junkie!" Raymond argued, and (Y/n) quickly spun on her heel, her and Ray both glaring daggers at Raymond. "He's been sober for years now, I know because I was the one looking after him when he was coming down." Raymond frowned at her words. "You were still in highschool." He pointed out. "And why do you think I missed so much school my senior year? Because I was here when the withdraw sickness became to much of him. I was here, looking after him, helping him, caring for him. Unlike you." She spat, thoroughly fed up with Raymond's behavior, though she knew this is exactly how he was going to react, and it's the exact reason why she never told him.
"And before you make any sick assumptions, nothing happened between us. For years I was just his friend, looking out for him. It wasn't until last year when we became intimate, and that was only because I initiated it, and convinced him it was okay. Because it is okay, we're both adults, mature enough to make our own decisions." She ranted, only stopping and closing her eyes, when Ray moved to place his hand on her belly, standing beside her. "Shh calm down sweetheart, stress isn't good for the baby." Ray spoke softly, now rubbing at her baby bump, the feeling helping her relax a little, and his words quelling the raging fire that was her anger. "You don't have to accept this, but I will not have you talking about Ray like that. I love him, he makes me happy, and he takes good care of me, and that should be enough for you to accept this." (Y/n) opened her eyes, looking to Raymond with emotionless eyes. Eyes that quickly swirled with adoration when they cast to his brother at her side. Resting her head against his shoulder, and relaxing under his tender touch. "I love you too." Ray whispered against her hair before placing a small kiss there. All the while Raymond stood there unsure of what to say, or how to feel on the matter anymore.
|Time Skip|
The following hours had been awkward and uncomfortable for the three adults. While Ray drove them to the funeral in his car, with (Y/n) in the passenger seat holding his free hand, and Raymond sat quietly in the backseat. When they stopped at a gas station for (Y/n) to use the bathroom, Raymond hadn't even realized he'd been staring at Ray, until Ray grunted out an annoyed "What?". "Why her? Of all the women in the world, why her?" Raymond asked what had been bugging him all day. "Because I love her." Ray responded before casting his gaze back to the gas station, watching like a hawk for (Y/n) to return. "Because you love her?" Raymond questioned, clearly unconvinced. "Yes I love her, is that really so hard to believe?" Ray grumbled. "Yes." Raymond stated without hesitation, making Ray roll his eyes. "Well I do." Ray muttered, breathing a silent breath of relief at the sight of (Y/n) exiting the gas station. A small smile tugging at his lips at the sight of the snacks she held in her hands. "Here you go honey." (Y/n) passed Ray a bag of his favorite chips, when she reached the car.
Then a Debbie snack to Raymond. "Here." She muttered softly to him, glancing at his eyes for a moment before settling in her seat. Another sweet treat in her hand for herself. "Thanks." Raymond muttered when he looked at what she'd given him. "Thank you sweetheart." Ray leaned over again gave her a quick kiss, the sight making Raymond scoff. "Could you not do that in font of me?" Raymond groaned. "Grow up." Ray sassed as he looked back at his brother, who bit his tongue while glaring back at him. (Y/n) kept quiet as she opened her wrapper, offering her hand to Ray to open his as well. He passed her the bag and started diving once more, smiling softly at her when she returned the now open bag to him. Back on the road they made it to the funeral in a matter of twenty minutes, the atmosphere in the car turning from awkward to somber. And it remained that way long after they'd reached the cemetery some time later. "Honestly I just don't get what she sees in you." Raymond mused carelessly from the back seat. Ray closed his bible, turned to his brother, and simply flipped him off in response.
(Y/n) had gone to their father's plot, with a single pink posy in her hand. Paying her respects to him, despite never having met the man, or liking him after Ray told her the stories about how abusive he had been. "How are my girls feeling?" Ray asked when she re-approached the car, his hands cupping her belly after sitting his bible aside. "Tired." (Y/n) hummed before yawning. "It's a girl?" Raymond asked in a soft tone. "Yeah." She nodded her head, smiling down at her belly, her hands resting on top of Rays. The sight warmed Raymond's heart, slowly coming to terms with the situation. "I'm sorry for being such an ass about all this." He muttered after a moment of staring at her belly. "I get it... I don't like it, but I get it." (Y/n) responded, smiling when Ray pulled her hands forward to kiss her knuckles. "Do you wanna feel her?" She asked as she looked to Raymond, who looked hopeful but apprehensive. "Are you sure?" He asked. "Yeah of course." (Y/n) smiled reassuringly, moving away from Ray to allow Raymond to touch her belly. Ray watched with a fond smile as his brother reached out tenderly to touch her belly.
"Here." She dragged his hand to the right side of her belly, where he felt a small kick. "Oh wow." He chuckled at the feeling, melting when the baby did it again. "She's very active, especially whenever Ray reads to us, or plays his trumpet. She seems to really like jazz just like her father." (Y/n) mused with a fond smile, looking to Ray who offered her a quick wink. "She's gonna be a handful." Raymond teased playfully, chuckling when the baby kicked again. "Just like her daddy." Ray cut in, making (Y/n) chuckle. "Don't I know it." (Y/n) mused. "I'm really happy for you, you know?" Raymond looked up to her, still holding her belly. "It's just... This was a lot to take in, and a little weird to me." He added, his words making (Y/n) nod in understanding. "You know Ray cried when I told him I was pregnant." She mused, smirking when Ray audibly groaned. "Really?" Raymond chuckled in disbelief. "Yep. Fell to his knees and buried his face into my still flat belly, muttering all sorts of nonsense and praise." She smiled at the memory, and Ray only shrugged when his brother looked at him. "He's going to be a great father." She added absentmindedly, making Rays heart melt. "Yeah I'm sure he will be." Raymond agreed as he removed his hands from her belly, smiling softly up at her, his sincere words making tears prick in her eyes. "Thank you." Ray muttered softly to his brother, beyond proud to hear him say that.
